Weird and Extreme / Old woman grows horn in forehead
August 28, 2012, 01:54:54 AM

Several human skulls with horns protruding from them were discovered in a burial mound at Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, in the 1880's. With the exception of the bony projections located about two inches above the eyebrows, the men whom these skeletons belonged to were anatomically normal, though at seven feet tall they were giants. It was estimated that the bodies had been buried around A.D. 1200. The find was made by a reputable group of antiquarians, including the Pennsylvania state historian and dignitary of the Presbyterian Church (Dr. G.P. Donehoo) and two professors, A.B. Skinner, of the American Investigating Museum, and W.K.Morehead, of Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts. The bones were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, where like so many finds that question anthropology, they were stolen and never seen again.

A 22-Year-Old Mother Kills Her Infant Son Because He Interrupted Her Farmville Game on Facebook
By HollyBaby | Parenting â€" Fri, Oct 29, 2010 3:26 PM EDT

Alexandra V. Tobias is awaiting trial after pleading guilty to shaking her 3-month-old son to death. Can you believe that the Florida woman committed this senseless act of violence because her infant's cries were distracting her while she was playing Farmville on Facebook? How could this happen?

If there is any justice Alexandra V. Tobiaswill spend the rest of her life behind bars. The 22-year-old Jacksonville, Florida resident recently plead guilty to killing her 3-month-old son over an online game. She admits that Dylan Lee Edmonsonhad been crying for a while as she played the popular Facebook game Farmville.

Alexandra told police that when the infant wouldn't stop crying, last January, she stepped away from the game long enough to shake the boy, smoke a cigarette and then shake the boy again. The unfit mother suggested that little Dylan "may have hit his head during the shaking."

Dylan's death has been classified as second-degree murder, so if convicted, Alexandra faces the possibility of life in prison. The Farmville craze - it has more than 75 million users who earn virtual money by growing and harvesting crops - is becoming a big cause for concern because there are so many reports of players, like Alexandra, have become addicted to the game.

nga may tawo nga magsigi og hunghong kaniya.

og kwarta hinungdan nga nahibulong sila nganong naghikog.

David Alexander Patriana
niingon nga wala silay nakitang foul play sa kamatayon niini.

Gani nisamot kalig-on ang pagtuo sa kapulisan nga way foul play ang hitabo tungod kay ang kapulisan nakakuha
man og suicide note duol sa lawas niini.

batok kang Dr. John Sidney Ricamora, kinsa ni-plead not guilty.

“May nakita akong bulate (bitok) probably it was the cause sa pagkabutas ng gallbladder niya at nag-leak

- BANAT NEWS

MANILA, Philippines â€" Tim Tebow, currently among the most popular playeers in American football,
is largely unknown in the Philippines and the metropolitan city of his birth.

The 24-year-old Tebow, superstar quarterback of the Denver Broncos, was born in Makati City.

"Tee-bone?" said Makati government official Mila Gonzalez in a telephone conversation with The Post Game.com. "How do you spell that?"

Tebow was born on August 14, 1987 to American parents who were serving as Christian Baptist missionaries in the Philippines at the time.

He is especially well-known for fourth-quarter scoring drives that result, week after week, in miraculous come-from-behind victories for the Broncos.

Since Tebow took over the starting quarterback position, the team has racked up 7 wins and just 1 loss.

Gonzalez admitted to The Post Game.com that nobody at the Makati City Hall recognized Tebow's name.

"No one here has heard of him," said Gonzalez. "Is he a current player? “

“Of course it is exciting for us now you have told us about this, and we will look it up.
If someone from our city is successful it is something for us to celebrate. I am sure once people begin to realize
he is from Makati they will start to follow him in his sporting endeavors," she added.

Tebow appeared in Nike's "Boom" television advertisement with Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao last year.

Americans not only marvel Tebow for his exploits in the field, but also admire him for his humble demeanor and
his religious devotion, which they say makes him an ideal role model for youngsters.

His parents nearly lost him when doctors advised his mother, Pamela Elaine, to undergo abortion
after she suffered a life-threatening infection during pregnancy.

His mother refused to terminate her pregnancy while carrying "Timmy."

She now is one of America's most vocal pro-life advocates. -- With a report from Agence France-Presse

ILOILO CITY --
Unable to take the school pressures, a graduating nursing student ended her life Tuesday morning by jumping
off the third floor of a mall in this city's financial district.

Authorities rushed Vina Marie del Rosario, 22, to a nearby hospital after she jumped from the third floor of the
Atrium mall at General Luna St. here. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Del Rosario, a fourth-year nursing student of St. Therese College, died of severe head injuries, hospital officials said.

The victim was positively identified by her family and school officials who rushed to St. Paul's Hospital, located across the Atrium mall.

Her family said a lingering mental problem and supposed pressures in school, particularly her thesis work, triggered the suicide.

Elementary school principal Mila Engalgado, a family friend, told Bombo Radyo Iloilo that Del Rosario had been
worried about her thesis until past midnight on Monday.

Del Rosario's peers described her as "studious" and "very serious" in her studies.

A salon staff told reporters that the nursing student was already at the third level of the mall minutes
after the establishment opened at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Luben Calixto, a salon staff, said he initially saw Del Rosario sitting on the bench looking distressed.
The next time he saw her, the victim was already throwing herself off the steel railings.

Shoppers in the mall's first floor were shocked at the sight of the woman who made a 30-foot death leap.

Calixto said salon staff tried to grab the woman but help came seconds late. (Sunnex)

MANILA, Philippines - An 18-year-old female New Zealander pleaded guilty in a Christchurch District Court
for using her dog to attack two Asian immigrants, including a 38-yeard-old Filipino.

In a report by the New Zealand Herald today, quoting police, said that Phillipa Ann Parker used her dog
to attack unnamed Japanese and Filipino nationals sometime in April this year.

The report said that according to Parker, she was “trying to make a statement” on immigrants who
she claimed were taking the jobs of New Zealanders.
She pleaded guilty to two charges of assault using a dog as a weapon.
One victim suffered a puncture wound and deep scratches to her back and shoulder.

“It was kind of like I was trying to make a statement, because I do a lot of factory work and every factory
that I have ever worked in there has been more immigrants than there has been Kiwis,” she said in the report.

Police said Parker was walking her bull mastiff-cross in Christchurch, with a man who had a second dog, in April.

Parker verbally encouraged her leashed dog to attack a 38-year-old Filipino man, police said.
She unleashed her dog to allow it to chase the man.

The victim turned his back and lifted his jacket over his head to protect himself.

Parker then came across an 18-year-old Japanese woman and shouted "f*** off home, you're not wanted here."

Parker encouraged her dog to attack and the verbal abuse continued as the woman huddled into a corner to
try to protect herself from the dogs.
The two dogs have been impounded, and a judge will decide if they should be destroyed.

Parker is to be sentenced in March next year.

A 16-year-old Florida girl died after a rare parasite infected her brain during a swim in a river near her home, doctors said.

Doctors believe Courtney Nash, from Mims, Fla., was struck down by amoebic meningoencephalitis, a deadly infection
caused by an amoeba that lurks in warm river and pond waters.

Nash was rushed to the hospital late last week when she got a fever and became delirious shortly after taking a dip in the St. John's River last week.

She was pronounced dead at around 4:30 p.m., Brevard County Fire Rescue said.

Health officials have not determined a cause of death, but they suspect that Nash may have caught the parasite that
causes the infection, amoebic encephalitis, during her swim.

"We got a result from the hospital in Orlando and they did a spinal tap on her, and they looked on the cerebral spinal fluid
and they saw the amoeba," Barry Inman, an epidemiologist with the Brevard County Health Department, told CBS Tampa.

The dangerous and rare parasite is commonly found in stagnant freshwater during hot weather, as well as poorly tended pools or hot tubs.

The parasite enters the victim through the nose and then attacks the brain and spinal chord, doctors said.

There are typically fewer than five cases a year in the entire country, and only one person has survived the infection since the 1970s, Inman told the station.

"We have like one or two maybe a year. Sometimes we go a few years without having any cases in the United States," he said.

Florida's last confirmed case came in 2009, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Nash was a rising junior at Astronaut High School in Titusville.

Friends and family members said she loved the outdoors and been swimming in the St. John's all her life.

Journal Staff Writer

UAE Col. Arif Mohamed Saeed Mohamed Al-Ali arrives at federal court.

The Providence Journal / Frieda Squires

PROVIDENCE â€" A Filipino maid testified Monday she knew she was in trouble the moment she arrived at the East Greenwich house
she would live in with her boss, a United Arab Emirates colonel, and his family in July 2010.

“Right then, I already thought I will have a hard time working for them because I know how their children behave,” Elizabeth Cabitla Ballesteros
said through an interpreter in U.S. District Court. She immediately wanted to return to the tiny village where she lived in the Philippines, she said.

Ballesteros was the first witness in the trial of Arif Mohamed Saeed Mohamed Al-Ali, whom she had worked for as a maid and babysitter since 2007.
Authorities accuse Al-Ali of persuading Ballesteros, 39, to come to the United States and then forcing her into unpaid labor while he
attended a year-long program at the Naval War College. He is also charged with providing ICE agents with false documents indicating he paid her $19,000.

Al-Ali, who is being represented by former U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente, opted for a trial before Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi
instead of a jury. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ballesteros told the court in often tearful testimony as she gazed at the ceiling that Al-Ali did not pay her despite a contract
used to secure her visa into America that said she would be paid $1,600 for a 40-hour workweek.
Instead, she worked without pay 17 hours a day, seven days a week, caring for the youngest of the couple’s five children;
cooking and feeding the family; cleaning their three-level 15 Downing St. home; and washing two cars daily, she said.

“Nothing,” she said when asked whether she or her family received money.

She described accompanying the Al-Ali family to a waterside picnic Aug. 6.
A woman approached her as she waited in the shade for the children to get out of the bathroom.
The woman, whom she later learned to be “Cecelia,” asked if she was Filipino, she said.

Ballesteros responded that she wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone, but she said she handed the woman a slip of paper with
her cell phone number on it. “â€,‘Ma’am, please help me,’â€,” she testified she said.

Why did you ask for help? inquired Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Rogers. “Because I really wanted to be rescued. …
I just wanted to go back to the Philippines. … What I felt at the time was, God help me.”

Over the following months, she corresponded with Cecelia via text messages, Ballesteros said.

“I’m working too hard. I almost couldn’t bear it. I had a pain in my body,” she said.

On Oct. 7, after Al-Ali left for the War College and the children went to school, Ballesteros packed a suitcase and a plastic bag
with belongings and escaped while his wife was in her bedroom, she said.
She left a note on the living-room table thanking the Al-Alis and telling them she loved the kids, but that she couldn’t take it anymore, she said.
A woman named Elizabeth Stern drove her away.

Under questioning by Corrente, Ballesteros acknowledged she had continued to work for the Al-Alis for years although
she was paid less than half of what she had agreed to.
She did so, she said, because she wanted to pay for her three children to go to school in the Philippines.

She even planned to return to the UAE with the Al-Alis when the Naval War College program concluded
because she “already loved the children,” she said.

Corrente noted that the woman who interviewed her for her visa in the UAE described her as seeming “comfortable” with her employer.
Ballesteros admitted she hadn’t read her employment contract, although she knows how to read English.

She told of Al-Ali grabbing her arm and forcing her to sign another contract 12 times the night before she left with the family
for the United States on July 21. He told her, she said, “it was for his own safety.”

She described him swearing at her after she asked for a Sim card for her cell phone and threatening to send her back to the Philippines.
He told her, she said, he had the power of the Navy behind him. Al-Ali, who took notes throughout Monday’s proceedings,
would not return her passport despite her request, she said.

“By Aug. 6, you were asking a stranger for help to escape, weren’t you?” Corrente said.

Not to escape, she said, but to contact the embassy because they were the only people who could help her get her full salary and return to the Philippines.

Corrente questioned her testimony that she cooked three meals a day over the 10 weeks she was with the family in the United States.
Thirty of those days were during the Ramadan holiday, Corrente said.

During Ramadan, she said, she cooked breakfast for the children and a big lunch for the whole family.
But Muslims can’t eat until after sundown during Ramadan, Corrente said. “I know,” Ballesteros, who has filed a civil suit against Al-Ali and his wife, said.

Al-Ali, who remains free on $100,000 cash bail, is expected to testify in his own defense.

(BANAT NEWS)

1.) Bestiality is Dangerous

This is the most absurd thing you’ll ever hear. In 2005, Kenneth “Mr. Hands” Pinyan of Washington, USA
died of acute peritonitis after seeking out and receiving anal intercourse from a stallion.
This is an act he had been engaged many times without injury.
Pinyan delayed his visit to the hospital for several hours out of reluctance to explain the circumstances of his injury to doctors.
The case led to the criminalization of bestiality in Washington. His story was recounted in the award winning 2007 documentary film “Zoo”.

2.) Gluttony Kills

Gluttony is a sin and it kills! Have you heard of the king who ate himself to death?
King Adolf Frederick of Sweden died because of over-eating. On February 12, 1771 he consumed
a meal consisting of caviar, champagne, lobster, sauerkraut and smoked herring plus 14 servings
of semla served in a bowl of hot milk, his favorite dessert.

3.) Stupidity or Carelessness?

We should always remember that water is a good conductor of electricity.
In 1978, Claude Francois, a French pop singer and the writer of the original version of “My Way”,
died of electrocution when he tried to change a light bulb while standing in his bathtub that was full of water at the time.

4.) Be Careful with Your Scarf

Wearing scarves can be dangerous. In 1927, a dancer name Isadora Duncan died of a broken neck
when one of the long scarves she was known for caught on the wheel of a car in which she was a passenger.
She is regarded as the creator of modern dance.

5.) Toothpick Can Kill

Ask your dentist and he/she will never advice you to use toothpick.
Dentists would rather suggest using dental floss. Sherwood Anderson, an American novelist and short story writer,
died in 1941 after accidentally swallowing a toothpick at a party. She died later of peritonitis.

6.) Committed Suicide During a Live Television Broadcast

The year was 1974 and I thought I was too young to remember this weird incident.
Christine Chubbuck, an American television news reporter, committed suicide during a live broadcast on the 15th of July.
At 9:38 AM, 8 minutes into her talk show, on WXLT-TV in Sarasota, Florida, she drew out a revolver and shot herself in the head.

7.) Even Blank Bullets Can Kill

We have heard it many times don’t make fun with a gun. In 1984, the handsome Jon-Erik Hexum,
an American television actor and model, died after he shot himself in the head with a prop gun during a break in filming,
playing Russian roulette using a revolver loaded with a single blank cartridge.
Everyone should take note that blanks have gunpowder that explodes into gas with enough force to cause
severe injury or death especially if the gun is fired as contact shot.

8.) Committing Suicide on a Televised Press Conference

You think it’s on the movies only that you’ll see people killing themselves by putting a gun on their mouth?
It also happens in real life. In 1987, Budd Dwyer, the State Treasurer of Pennsylvania, committed suicide during
a televised press conference inside his office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the USA.
Faced with a potential 55-year jail imprisonment for alleged involvement in a conspiracy, Dwyer shot himself in the mouth with a revolver.

9.) Having Fun is Extremely Dangerous Too

Cactus plugging is a favorite pastime of some people. In 1982, David Grundman was killed while shooting
at cacti for fun with his shotgun. After firing several shots at an 8 m tall Saguaro Cactus from a very close range,
a 4 ft limb of the Cactus that was weakened by the gunfire detached and fell directly on him, crushing and killing him.
The incident took place near Lake Pleasant in Arizona, USA.

10.) A Thrill-seeking Teenager

Wear your seatbelt! A horrible incident in 1995 claimed the life of a 14 year old girl.
She fell about 25 ft high to her death while riding the rollercoaster called the Timber Wolf at Worlds of
Fun Amusement park in Kansas City. She unbuckled her seatbelt and maneuvered herself free from the lap bar
and restraint devices in an attempt to switch seats with a friend.

Reporting from Tuscaloosa, Ala.â€"
A deadly storm front pummeled Alabama and at least four other Southern states, spawning tornadoes and leaving officials on
Thursday facing a climbing death toll, major property destruction and an intense search-and-rescue effort.

The number of deaths hit 131 in Alabama alone, with loss of life in Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia
bringing the preliminary total to about 200. That number is expected to rise, officials said.

"We had a major catastrophic event in Alabama," Gov. Robert Bentley said in a telephone news conference.
Also attending was Craig Fugate, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who will be traveling to the region later on Thursday.

"We have major destruction and 131 confirmed fatalities," Bentley said. "We do expect that number to rise today, we're sure it will."

Bentley said that between half a million and 1 million people in Alabama were without power and that there were
numerous injuries, especially in Tuscaloosa, which seems to be among the hardest hit areas in the state. A nuclear power plant was shut down in Alabama.

Bentley said that he had relatives in Tuscaloosa who had survived the storm's onslaught.

"The family came through OK," he told reporters, "but I'm concerned with everyone's family."

Fugate said the scale of the damage was enormous, approaching the days of early April 1974, when more than 300 died from storms.

The extent of the current toll was difficult to confirm, and officials were careful to avoid citing a specific number
while rescue efforts were underway in individual states. But so far, Mississippi officials reported 32 dead, Tennessee
raised its report to 14, Georgia reported 11 and Virginia said it had eight deaths. All of the states declared states of emergency.

The latest storm began Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla.,
said it received 137 reports of tornadoes, 66 from Alabama and 38 from Mississippi.

Bentley said Alabama residents were prepared for the storms, but the violent weather moved into the region
too quickly and forcefully to make evacuation effective.

"It was just the force of the storm," the governor told reporters. "It's hard to move that many people."

Alabama will seek expedited federal assistance, he said.

President Obama declared a state of emergency for Alabama on Wednesday night. About 1,400 National
Guard soldiers were being deployed around the state.

"Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this devastation, and we commend the heroic efforts
of those who have been working tirelessly to respond to this disaster," Obama said.

One of the hardest-hit areas was Tuscaloosa, a city of more than 83,000 and home to the University of Alabama.
The city's police and other emergency services were devastated, Mayor Walter Maddox said.
At least 15 people were killed, and a single hospital reported about 100 injured.

Maddox took to the airwaves Thursday morning, describing a city as shell-shocked as any place that had been under a bombing.
Maddox said his city needed supplies, including fresh water and clothes, and that recovery will take weeks, if not months.

Television images Thursday morning showed parts of the city with buildings that were reduced to skeletons.

A 43-YEAR-OLD professor of the Cebu Normal University (CNU) was found dead in his home on M. Velez St., Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

As she came home from school, his daughter found Dr. John Munalim sitting on a toilet bowl, with a long gash in his neck, past noon yesterday.

Police have yet to declare if it was a homicide or a suicide. Crime scene investigators found bloodstains on the
lock and knob of the main door, and near the computer table. A razor blade was found at his feet.

John’s wife Thelma, who also works as a teacher, said her husband did not show any signs that he would
commit suicide, although he was anxious about his health.

SPO1 Jay Yballe, who led the homicide team, said the police found no signs of a forced entry or a struggle inside the house.

“All the things inside are in place,” he said, including the laptop, which was earlier reported to have been missing.

As to the bloodstains found at the main door and near the computer table, Yballe said samples were submitted
to the crime laboratory for analysis.

“We will have to wait for the autopsy result,” Yballe said, when asked if a homicide was suspected.

According to the information Yballe gathered from Thelma and daughter Kimberly, John was suffering
from diabetes and a heart ailment. He also had trouble sleeping.

Thelma, in an interview over radio DyAB, lamented that some neighbors ignored her complaint that
their gamecocks and chickens kept John awake at night.

Before she left home yesterday, Thelma said she and John even planned to go to the phone
company together to pay their Internet service bill.

She also asked why no one brought her husband to the hospital.

A slow death from an
illness would have been better than a sudden blow like this),” Thelma said.

John’s neighbors, who gathered near his house, expressed disbelief at the professor’s death.
They only had good words for him, describing him as a very kind neighbor.

Dr. Munalim, a native of Basilan Province, has been teaching at the CNU, since 2003.
He graduated from the University of Cebu with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in History.
He had a doctorate degree in Educational Management from Southwestern University.

At CNU, he taught social sciences subjects such as history and Rizal, said Eppie Lao, head of CNU’s Human Resources Department.

Dr. Munalim is survived by his wife Thelma, a teacher at Camp Lapu-Lapu National High School, and children Kimberley Kaye, 20, and Karl Bryan, 14.

He chaired the Behavioral and Political Science Department in 2008.

Before joining CNU, Munalim was employed at the Department of Education and taught at Busay National High School
from July 2001 to June 2003. He also worked as school administrator of Bonbon National High School and was a
classroom teacher at the Sto. Tomas School from 1988 to 1993.

His other assignments were in Paril, Binaliw, Camp Lapu-Lapu and in Sudlon. (With BAP)

Philippine Daily News / Burned babies need more aid
March 05, 2011, 09:40:04 AM
Saturday, March 5, 2011

CEBU CITY -- To make it up to three babies hurt in a public hospital, Cebu City Hall will have to guarantee
they will be assisted, even after they are discharged, an official said.

In a privilege speech during the regular council session on Friday, Councilor Margarita "Margot" Osmeña
emphasized that the explosion of a bulb last February 20, which injured three newborns, was an accident.

But she also said the City Government must assure the parents of the victims of its full commitment to
help the infants deal with any effects of the accident.

"The parents are satisfied with the help extended by the City Government but they are concerned
about what will happen to their babies in the future because of the accident," she said.

Baby Villarico, who suffered the worst burns, is still in the intensive care unit of Chong Hua Hospital but is recovering.

The baby is due for a facial skin graft when his condition stabilizes, she said. Grafting is the process of placing
healthy skin, sometimes taken from other parts of the patient himself, over burns.

Baby Villarico and two others, all less than a month old, were being kept warm with a gooseneck lamp when
its bulb exploded. The accident revived calls to improve the hospital's outdated facilities or, if warranted, even close it.

As to the investigation being conducted by the executive department, Osmeña said the council will assure
its willingness to share any information arising from the council's separate inquiry.

The council finished its investigation on the accident last week.

Meanwhile, the contracts of 34 medical consultants of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC)
have been renewed by the City Government.

Of the total number, a total of 14 doctors will be rehired as consultants for the Department of Pediatrics
of CCMC, five doctors for the Organ Imaging Department and eight doctors for the Department of Internal Medicine.

Four doctors, on the other hand, will be rehired as consultants for the Department of Anesthesiology, two for
the Department of Pathology and one doctor for research.

According to a resolution filed by Councilor Ronald Cuenco, who chairs the council's committee on health,
the doctors' consultancy contracts will cover January 1 to June 30 this year.

Each of the consultants will receive from P4,000 to P18,000, depending on the assigned department. (PDF/Sun.Star Cebu)

BHUBANESHWAR, India (AP) â€" Indian police detained two people after an angry mob of fired workers
burned to death a senior executive of a steel factory, an official said Friday.

After learning they were laid off, about a dozen workers attacked a vehicle carrying Radhey Shyam Roy
as he was leaving the factory in eastern Orissa state on Thursday, dousing the Jeep with gasoline and
setting it on fire, said police Superintendent Ajay Kumar Sarangi.

Two other people in the vehicle were allowed to flee but Roy, 59, was trapped inside and later died of severe burns, Sarangi said.

Police were questioning two workers and their formal arrest on murder charges was likely, Sarangi told The Associated Press.
The steel factory is in Bolangir district, nearly 250 miles (400 kilometers) west of Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Orissa state.

Incidents of industrial violence are common in India, where workers often target executives in cases of wage disputes and job losses.

In 2008, scores of dismissed employees of an Italian manufacturing company, Graziano Transmissioni India, used iron rods
and wooden sticks to beat to death the company's local chief executive officer on the outskirts of New Delhi.

LONDON --  Gross or tasty? A London company is offering an unusual dessert - ice cream made with human breast milk

The Icecreamists, a trendy ice cream parlor, says its "Baby Gaga" ice cream sold out as soon as it launched Friday.

The company paid women who donated their breast milk after a health screening.
The milk is then pasteurized and churned together with vanilla pods and lemon zest. The dish,
which comes in a martini glass, sells for 14 pounds ($22.50) each.

Matt O'Connor, who owns the company, says the product is "organic, free-range and totally natural."

The Food Standards Agency says there are no specific laws prohibiting businesses from selling
human milk products, although they must comply with general food safety laws to ensure the product is safe for consumption.

who is a public school teacher, checked into BSM Hotel in Barangay Basak at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said they received information that Peterson, who temporarily lived at No. U205 Mactan Oasis Garden
in Sitio Soong, Barangay Mactan, was married to a Filipina but they had separated.

Insp. Juan Capacio, head of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station said at about 11:20 p.m.,
hotel staff heard the woman shouting for help because the American suddenly collapsed.

Police investigators said the woman told them that while they were having sex, Peterson
suddenly collapsed while blood dripped from his nose.

Hotel staff immediately called the ERUF, which brought the foreigner to the hospital.

Police found no sign of struggle in Peterson’s body. But the victim’s was still submitted for
an autopsy to determine what really caused his death.

Investigators initially believed that the American national died of heart attack.

Meanwhile, after hearing reports on the incident, Borgonia immediately ordered Lapu-Lapu City Schools
division officer-in-charge Eduardo Umpad to conduct an investigation and submit a report and recommendation.

In an interview over DyLA, Borgonia said he was disturbed by the report, which, if proven true, is a form of
conduct unbecoming by a public school teacher who should not be a model for children.

According to Borgonia, the investigation of Umapad would determine if there is a need to conduct an
administrative investigation against the woman teacher on the ground of immorality. â€" (FREEMAN)

Updated 12:16 a.m. EST

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand - A powerful earthquake struck New Zealand's already-bruised city of Christchurch on Tuesday, collapsing buildings, burying vehicles under debris and sending rescuers scrambling to help trapped people amid reports of multiple deaths.

The 6.3-magnitude quake hit the country's second-biggest city on a busy weekday afternoon and closer
to downtown than a major quake that damaged Christchurch last September but caused no deaths
when it struck before dawn on a weekend.

Police said there were reports of multiple fatalities from the latest temblor in the city of 350,000,
while Prime Minister John Key told Parliament it was still too soon to confirm the deaths.

The quake destroyed the spire of the iconic stone Christchurch Cathedral, which toppled into a central city square,
and police said there was a report of two buses crushed under falling buildings.

Video footage showed some multistorey buildings collapsed in on themselves, and others with walls that had collapsed
into the streets, strewn with bricks and shattered concrete.
Sidewalks and roads were cracked and split, and thousands of dazed, screaming and crying residents wandered
through the streets as sirens blared. Groups of people helped victims clutching bleeding
wounds, and others were carried to private vehicles in makeshift stretchers fashioned from rugs or bits of debris.

The airport was closed, and Christchurch Hospital was briefly evacuated before it was deemed safe and patients were returned.
Power and telephone lines were knocked out, and pipes burst, flooding the streets with water.
Some cars parked on the street were buried under rubble.

Some people were stuck in office towers and firefighters climbed extension ladders to pluck people trapped on roofs to safety.
A crane lifted a team of rescuers on a platform to one group of survivors in a high rise.
Plumes of gray smoke drifted into the air at several points around the city from fires burning in the rubble.

A search and rescue team was being flown in from Australia to help in the recovery.

PRAGUE â€" At least seven people have been charged with participating in an international organ-trafficking
network based in Kosovo that sold kidneys and other organs from impoverished victims for up to $200,000
to patients from as far away as Israel and Canada, police and senior European Union officials said Monday.

According to the indictment, the traffickers lured people from slums in Istanbul, Moscow, Moldova and Kazakhstan
with promises of up to $20,000 for their organs. Law enforcement officials say many never received a cent.
The operations were performed at a private clinic in a run-down neighborhood on the outskirts of Pristina, the Kosovar capital.

While the ring was first discovered two years ago, the global scale of the network and its victims is only now becoming clear.

Officials said the ringleader was a highly regarded surgeon and professor at Pristina University Hospital, Dr. Lutfi Dervishi.
The clinic was run by his son, Arban. Also charged was Ilir Rrecaj, a senior official in Kosovo’s Health Ministry when the ring was broken.
They and two others are accused of crimes including trafficking in humans and body parts, unlawful medical activity,
participating in organized crime, and abuse of office. All were released on bail.

The charges have shaken Kosovo, which has been struggling to integrate with the West since it declared independence
from Serbia in February 2008. The case is also a test of the nascent legal institutions and rule of law as Kosovo
seeks to overcome a culture of endemic lawlessness and corruption that has reached the highest levels of government.

The trafficking network’s tentacles reached far. Warrants were issued for a Turkish doctor and an Israeli financier,
and two other doctors, an Israeli and a Turk, were named as co-conspirators.

The police said the ring had its roots at a medical conference in 2006 in Istanbul, where Dr. Dervishi met the
Turkish doctor being sought, Yusuf Sonmez. Law enforcement officials describe Dr. Sonmez as a notorious international organ trafficker.

The Medicus clinic had been founded by a European philanthropist who aided ethnic Albanian doctors during the war in Kosovo in 1999.
Dr. Dervishi, police officials said, secretly transformed it into a hub for illegal organ transplants, which were performed by Dr. Sonmez.

The indictment was first reported by The Associated Press. In it, a European Union prosecutor, Jonathan Ratel, said that in 2008,
20 foreign nationals living in “extreme poverty or acute financial distress” were “recruited with the false promises of payments.”

The police said they broke the ring in November of that year, when a young Turkish man, Yilman Altun, was found at the Pristina airport,
weak and frail. Mr. Altun told the police that his kidney had been stolen.
When the police raided the Medicus clinic, they discovered an elderly Israeli man who had received Mr. Altun’s kidney.

European Union officials said that the indictment in the case had been filed in district court in Kosovo and that a preliminary
hearing was expected by the end of the year. If a judge confirms the charges, a trial will follow.

The European Union has a large law enforcement mission in Kosovo to combat crime and corruption.
But that fight has proved difficult, with suspicions of bribes, money laundering, organized crime, fraud and now organ
trafficking, ensnaring high-level government officials.

Several countries are examining the Kosovo ring, with police investigators combing through the phone records,
computer hard drives and bank transfers of those charged.
European Union officials said the recipients paid for the kidneys by bank transfers, helping lead the police to the main suspects.

Western law enforcement officials said they suspected the ring might be part of a larger criminal network whose nexus was in Israel.
In September, five doctors from South Africa were charged with participating in an international kidney-trading syndicate in
which dozens of poor Brazilians and Romanians were paid for kidneys for wealthy Israelis.
Analysts said the organ-trafficking case was part of a disturbing global trend in which unscrupulous traffickers take advantage
of the growing waiting lists of desperate patients and the vulnerability of poor people further buffeted by the international financial crisis.

In the United States, more than 109,000 people are on the waiting list for organ transplants, mostly kidneys,
and 18 die each day, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing, which manages the American transplant system.

For the longest time, Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and other top Kosovar politicians
enjoyed an unchallenged reputation as war heroes, thanks to their roles in an armed uprising by
the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) that helped end violent Serb rule in 1999 and paved the way
for independence nine years later.

Now that image is shattered, as Thaci and other leading authorities find themselves accused
of grave crimes that include the harvesting and trafficking of the organs of murdered prisoners.
An official investigation into the allegations has just been launched.
But in Kosovo's climate of witness intimidation, the investigation seems to have stalled before it's even started.

It was Dick Marty, a special rapporteur for the Council of Europe, a human-rights club of countries on the continent,
who dropped the bombshell six weeks ago.
He claims that after the 1998-1999 conflict, senior KLA officers abducted Serbs, Roma and Kosovo
Albanians who were suspected of collaborating with Serbia and sent them to secret prisons in neighboring Albania.

There, Marty alleges, prisoners were tortured and killed â€" and, in some cases, had their organs removed to be sold to clients abroad.
Thaci, who was a KLA leader at the time, has denied the accusations,
adding that: "The KLA led a pure war. It has followed international standards."

General Topic / Smuggled cell phone
February 12, 2011, 06:51:25 AM

RALEIGH, N.C. â€" North Carolina prison officials said an inmate from Raleigh tried to smuggle a cell phone into prison in his rear end. Court documents obtained by The News & Observer of Raleigh show that 25-year-old Eric Chambers was charged after setting off metal detectors at Central Prison

Chambers handed over a flattened piece of metal hidden in his mouth, but set off the detectors again. That's when guards found the red-and-silver "flip-style" cell phone hidden in his rectum.

Chambers was convicted in 2008 of being a habitual felon and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Investigators said he was using the phone as part of a drug-dealing operation.

It could not be immediately determined Wednesday if Chambers has a lawyer.

Philippine Daily News / A 6-year old girl murdered
February 11, 2011, 02:18:07 AM
CEBU CITY -- Ellah Joy Pique, 6, waved goodbye to two friends and classmates as she boarded a black sports utility vehicle,
joining the Caucasian man who drove it and a Filipino woman on the passenger seat.
That was past 4 p.m. last Tuesday.

At 7:55 a.m. Thursday, Ellah was found dead at the foot of a cliff along the national road in Barangay Sayaw,
Barili town, more than 40 kilometers away from home.
Her naked body was tightly wrapped, along with three rocks, in two cream-colored blankets.
Gray cables snaked around the tiny bundle.
The discovery ended a frantic search by her father Renante, 40, who began looking for Ellah at 5 p.m. Tuesday
when she failed to come home from the Calajo-an Elementary School in Minglanilla town.

Ellah Joy is his youngest child and only daughter.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory in Central Visayas will conduct an autopsy on the body,
which was dumped near a beach resort.
The Grade 1 pupil's belongings were discovered in Patupat, the barangay next to Sayaw, around 9 a.m.
These included a pink checkered skirt, pink shorts, a sleeveless white blouse, her violet slippers, a lunch box and her school bag filled with notebooks.
Two P50 bills were among the items found in Patupat, which surprised the girl's father.

"Naa'y kwarta? Wa ko kahatag og kwarta niya (There's money? I did not give her any money)," he said.
Renante said the last time he saw Ellah was at noon last Tuesday, when the girl went home for lunch.
The next time he saw her, she was in the Divine Heart Funeral Parlor in Ronda town.
He said he scoured Cebu City in search of his daughter and filed a missing person report at the Mambaling Police Station,
apart from asking for help at the Minglanilla Police Station.
Renante and the Minglanilla police, headed by Chief Inspector Laurel Almirante, learned from Ellah's two classmates
and companions that they were heading home from school when the black car, with brown lines on its sides, stopped in front of them.
This happened just a few meters away from the school.
The two children remembered that the license plate number ended in "679" but couldn't recall the prefix.

According to the children, the woman told Ellah to get inside the car.
I'll bring you home. I know your mother)," she reportedly said.
Without any hesitation, Ellah, who was very friendly, got inside and sat on the woman's lap. She waved goodbye.
That was the last time her friends saw Ellah alive.

SPO3 Elsa Albuera, chief of the women's desk of Barili Police Station, said judging from the information relayed by the two children, it is possible the case was an attempt at human trafficking.
"The younger the victim, the higher the price," she said.
Renante said he regularly walked with his daughter from home to school and, later, back. But that afternoon, he decided not to because he had to bring his motorcycle to a repair shop.
"Wa gyud ko magdahum. Pinangga kaayo to nako siya nga anak (I did not expect this would happen. I loved her so much)," he said.

Police investigators from the towns of Barili and Minglanilla are working together to identify the perpetrators. The police are also working with the Land Transportation Office to trace the vehicle.
Laurel, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said they are trying to come up with the sketches of the Caucasian man and the Filipino woman, through the help of the two witnesses.

Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Erson Digal directed Laurel to lead the joint team of investigators.

Digal said he also sent a team from the Special Reaction Unit (SRU) to Calajo-an to improve police visibility and to reassure the residents.

He appealed to the residents, especially those who witnessed the abduction, to help the police by reporting what they have seen.

Homicide investigators will invite witnesses to help the police sketch the suspects' faces.

These witnesses include habal-habal drivers and elementary pupils who saw the an unidentified woman and a Caucasian man whose vehicle the child boarded, said PO2 Humprey Alpas of the Minglanilla Police Station.

Two Minglanilla police operatives - PO2 Hazel Caballero, a women's desk officer, and PO1 Edsel Ricablanca - escorted the girl's father to Barili town to check on the body found there. (Jovy Taghoy-Gerodias/With Garry Cabotaje/Sun.Star Cebu)
