what a demanding situation.  i wouldn't want to be in your shoes.  i guess it's because doctors are supposed to be brave, being on the front line of the war between life and death.  you have my sympathies, lorenz.

thanks isles. just some of my thoughts in regards to the health care protocol. we are not supposed to be religious at work, however, when a patient asks to talk about God , we have to agree to talk or refer them to a social worker.

i guess one thing that gets me is that why is it so bad to be spiritual or religious?

Today a patient came up to me and said, "Dr., I want to see my mother, can I see her please? When can I see my mother?"

The patient was a 93 year old Alzheimer patient. Luoy pod intawn. Ah, price of old age....

Today , after medical duty, I headed towards Northwestern and began a concrete review for the nursing students who are studying for their NCLEX examination. I was given a new syllabus to begin a new ATI TEAS review course for the new batch of incoming nursing students. This batch of nursing students will quite potent as I am expected to lecture to some 26 students. I already know that with such a number, I should already be ready for all the intrigue in class. After receiving my syllabus today, I talked to Dr. Maria about the new schedule for this coming month were I am to assume the position of Assistant Director of Allied Health Department at Northwestern. I am quite expectant at the same time very nervous with the responsibility it entails. I'm ready tho. Was very happy to see some of my former students now already getting ready to graduate their nursing program from Northwestern. I cannot help but smile when they say to me, "Dr. Lorenzo, we're almost done! Just 1 more course to go!"

Ma lipay pod ko gajod. I know that these students will go far in life and I do hope and pray that their patients will benefit from their sympathetic care and their kindness.

Cheers to that !

this was yesterday... banana republic and i invited a visiting couple from europe for lunch.  knowing the taste of the woman, we opted for a five-star hotel restaurant.  we have a gift certificate for a certain restaurant in that hotel, anyway, we thought.  it turned out that that specific restaurant opens at 5pm.  that left us staying put at the hotel's massive lobby restaurant.

it was an eat-all-you-can fare, with a price that could have brought tears to my eyes were i not a performance artist.  ::)

at four figures a pop, i thought it's a price that would be a windfall for those street people down the street (unfortunately, i'm beset by this kind of math because i do know those people by name).

might as well make the most of this, i decided, even as i thought of a friend who once deadpanned, "if we should not waste food because there are the hungry so we have to finish everything on our plate, would those hungry ones feel full?"

but eat all i can i did.  where usually i forego dessert, this once i tried to gobble everything i can get hold of, from ice cream to a variety of fresh fruits to those quaint french desserts whose names escape me.  the banana republic started to get from my plate.  obviously, he knows my capacity after all these years.

at the end of the feast, i was already depressed and irritable.  and unusually quiet.

we went home by mid-afternoon.  by dusk, the idea of eating still sickened me.  by dinnertime, i was already vomitting.  ugh.  until today i feel my stomach is still bum.  i swore i'll never overeat again.  price be damned.  :(

overeating is bad, islander. just a little taste of everything. thats why i dont like eat-all-you-can type of restaurant. masayangan ka sa presyo. angay lang na nga restaurant if you want to treat construction workers. kanang gikan pa sa trabaho whole day.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

This morning I had breakfast with babycakes prior to going to work. We were talking about possible project in opening a medical clinic together either in Chicago or perhaps in Michigan. Hmm, na sakitan pod ko when i found out how much it will cost to start a clinic. $350,000 just to start a clinic. But i think it is a good investment. :)

Today I attended a medical conference discussing Advanced Cardiac Recitative Efforts, effectively another ACLS class that is required by all medical interns. A good friend of mine, Jibril, whom I met back in Newark during our Board Reviews, was also present in the conference. Truly a small world. We decided to get a picture taken. Afterwards , we decided to go to the mall , incidentally, the conference was held in meeting hall in the mall.

I decided to take some pictures.

Dr. Jibril and I.  :D

I had quite an interesting day. A lot of pondering today, and at the same time, reflecting on the stage of my life, my future plans, and always - eyeing the priority and the importance of my family. Thank you , Lord, for blessing me with the years you have given me in my existence. I pray and ask you bless me with countless more years, and if pleasing to you, Lord, that I may help more people with the life I have and that my skills will be of use, of value, and of appreciation to those who need it.

Salamat kaayo for everything, Lord God.

Thank You, for everything you have done for me.

Always,

Went to work, then went to campus to teach a review course. I am to receive a new syllabus for a new class i am to teach this coming week. The next course I am to teach is called "Pharmacy Technology" for Pharmacy Technologists. I was told by Dr. Maria that I will be presiding over some 30 students for this class.

This will be my first Pharmacy Technology course I will teach. I hope I will be effective in disseminating proper information to my students.

There is actually a lot of opportunity for medical education. I have a friend who is also currently finishing up his Ph.D (dual program pod sija; pariho sa ahoang program -- he is an M.D-Ph.D). Anyways, my friend just deliberated his Ph.D doctoral dissertation successfully. So I am happy to hear of his successful completion of his Doctoral Candidacy (the prestigious Ph.D program from Northwestern University).

I am so happy that he was offered a post-doctoral research position as a faculty at Loyola University , another prestigious university here in Chicago (a historically Catholic University, by the way). I found out that he is going to go into Medical Education / Medical Research in addition to practicing clinical medicine on the side. There really is a lucrative field in medical research and medical education after I found out that he was offered a very comfortable research position; dako pod diay ang sweldo he he he!

Anyways, I am inspired by his direction. Perhaps I may also apply for a full time professorial position after finishing my Ph.D doctoral candidacy. Treating patients is a noble task, definitely, but dispensing education and medical knowhow to one's students is a truly rewarding feeling.

Research,....art thou mine friend? :)

So I am happy to hear of his successful completion of his Doctoral Candidacy (the prestigious Ph.D program that he is enrolled in is Northwestern University).

My very good friend. Congrats , Ben, on your successful completion of your M.D-Ph.D!

he he he !
