there's only one infectious diseases specialist and/or epidemiologist in the visayas.  she's a lady doctor (i forgot her name, but she was my doctor some years back when i landed in a hospital one day after waking up and looking like miss piggy).  when a cdc team from atlanta comes to the visayas and mindanao, she's the first person they coordinate with.

Isles, tinuod ka? in the entire visayas region, usa ra diay infectious disease specialist? I know of a Filipina infectious disease specialist, a graduate of UP. In my work, she's a veteran hematologist/oncologist. i did an interview with her last week ---she was telling me of her experiences in the Philippines. She shared with me her experiences in treating patients with Ascaris among other things.

yes, lorenz.  the only one, and recognized as such in both the visayas and mindanao.  i was told it is so by my two nieces who are doctors themselves.  no wonder it struck me on hindsight that it was as if she was held in awe by other medical practitioners when she entered my hospital room.  that was five years ago.  maybe there are others now, or maybe there are those who left the country.  but at that time, she was the one and only thereabouts.

wondering about manila's sudden switch from sunlight to thunderstorm.  the thunder is terrible, it made my kitten jump.  could this be why my internet connection isn't consistent, this now-you-have-it-now-you-don't broadband?  i'm not getting my money's worth...

as usual, i got curious.  are passion fruit and pomegranate one and the same?  not at all, i found out.

according to wikipedia, passion fruit (grenadilla in tagalog, wa ko kahibawo sa bisaya ani; scientific name: Passiflora edulis) "...is round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds".

Ripe purple type from Australia and its cross section

pomegranate (granada in bisaya, scientific name: Punica granatum) "...is a berry and is between a lemon and a grapefruit in size, 5–12 cm in diameter with a rounded hexagonal shape, and has thick reddish skin".

nalibog ko beforehand kay inig abli aning duha ka prutas kay pareha man ug insides, hehe.  the taste is another matter.  i had a cursory taste of both, which i don't remember anymore.  besides, these fruits are not very common hereabouts.
