So you mean ang Bobo is like marriage? Once nga ma trapped ka na, the next event is the grilling from your mother-in-law.

Sa tanang mga namuyo sa daplin sa dagat ug naay kahibaw-an sa sinultian sa mangingisda, mangayo kog tabang.

I am translating another documentary on the life of fishermen in the Philippines to be shown on Japanese TV. I'm stumped by the following words/phrases.

pukot--fishing net  (ok?)

bobo--

manarap ug bat--

I'll request for more as the need arises.

Bantak- smaller than Bobo used in the river or swam to catch shrimp or smaller fish like Halu-an, Pojo or pantat. They usually used a grilled coconut meat for bait. The coconut smell attracted the shrimp inside

Sap-jaw- square net measuring two feet, its corner is fasten to a bamboo pole with used a coconut meat as bait. This is for shrimp ( sapayan, halua-an, pantat or pojo.

Sod-Sod- a net with triangular shape with deep pocket in the rear end and wide in the front. Two bamboo poles fasten the the two side. You catch the fish by pushing it deeper in the river trapping the fish two bottom pocket.

Lampara[/b]- is a king of fishing using a small baroto(sakayan) with bugsay and Petromax or a electric Flourescent Lamp with battery. The light will attract a school of fish ( bolinao, tugnos, or etc). When a school of bolinao is underneath your sakayan then you used a net to scope it.

Ma N'oo- is  a kind of fishing in the river, a swam or in the rice field by using So'o ( is a bundled dried coconut leaves once ignited will     the burning  leaves. It will about 30 minute for one lukay. Once you saw the fish in a shallow area you take a spear or a pana to catch the fish.

Mang Lu-ab - Usually done during summer season were water is almost dried in the pond. Usually fish are trap in a certain area of the pond. Lu-ab means to Wedge -out a grassy area to exposed the the trap in the murky water.

Ma Ngaja- Usually done by trapping fish by diverting the water in one area of the river. a balde or plang-gana is used to drain the remainning water. then once almost dry. Then they start the Sikop. By kapa-kapa-in the isda.

Pasol- a hook and Nylon line with bait.

Manikop - using two hand and an antipara. Sikop - to trap by two hands.

Sir Bene, I think binayo is like a big mortar and pestle that we used to pound rice to remove the husk and nowadays rice miller is used. We also use Bayo or Binayo to make a nilusak na saging. I believe Bayo is also called Lugsong.

Let's wait what other peeps explanation for Binayo. I might have different understanding of Binayo. ;D

Thanks for being always the first on the rescue, Japz. I'll wait for what the others have to say. Hope you're OK, what with the government retrenchment plans thereabouts.

You're welcome Sir Bene. I'm trying kay I'm challenged man gud pod kay kung dili man gud pirme bitaw ma hisgutan ang mga terms sa ato ilabina nga naa ta sa gawas, medyo dugay dugay pod natong hinuktok and trying to remember unsa gani ni unsa gani to nga word buot pasabot. ;D

Ako man lang pod kaugalingon ako i-challenge. ;D

Regarding what's happening here in California, for now we're okay. We'll just have to be positive all the time and of course trust God that everything's gonna be okay.

Correction diay sa earlier nakong post nga ingon ko nga Lugsong ang tawag sa amo. Dili Lugsong kundi Lusong diay tawag sa mortar and pestle to pound rice. ;D

Ang Bayo mura'g mao na siya ang pestle.

This really looks yummy. By the way, a Japanese client once sent me a box of live sea cucumbers and I just threw them away because I didn't know how to prepare them. Unsaon man diay pagluto o  pagkilaw sa bat? Unsa may angay tangtangon, kay nahadlok ko basig murag butete nga makahilo if you don't remove specific parts.

Sir Ben, murder-on pa nimo una.  You'd have to squeeze out all the innards of the sea cucumber.  At first you'll get a glue-like excretion and then brown stuff will come out.  That's when you know that you've got its internal organs out.  When it's all flat, slice it up and wash, preferably with sea water.  Then prepare as desired.

By the way, the title of this TV documentary is "Living as a child in Asia."

I am not even halfway through this project, but I could forsee that this will be a realistic portrayal of the lives of coastal children in Bohol.

This gives us a first-person perspective of poverty among marginalized fisherman in poor Asian localities. Children have an awareness of the illegality of dynamite fishing, but they seem to have a scripted justification of why their fathers are doing it. Luoy baya pud kaayo.

Base sa context, mao siguro ni ang pasabot. Naa ni sila sa Bohol nga grupo? Sige man hisgutan ang Talibon.

Bobo, I think, is technically a fish aggregating device. It's usually made of palm leaves and bamboo to attract the fish to gather around.
