To the family and friends of Mr. Martin or Marten Williams, my deepest condolences!  It is never easy to lose a loved one much more in the manner how Mr. Williams died.  I am with the rest of the people here who are wishing that justice be served for those who committed the crime.  And hopefully justice be served soon.

I hope and pray that this will not create division among foreigners and locals in Bohol but instead would unite all of us in curbing criminality.

a boy who came to the scene and stabbed the man for allegedly raping the girl, may be telling the truth. however, conjuring up from previous testimonies of PNP, i could only surmise that the motive behind killing of the man has got more sinister roots that run deep into his lifestyle and his previous encounters with the locals as businessman, boyfriend, etc. too much of anything has no virtue. one could be too BUOTAN, yet he/she still run the risk of being abused or manipulated, or otherwise, depending on what you mean by BUOTAN.
i still believe in the goodness of the Boholanos. we'll recover from this mess. this should be an awakening to our Bohol authorities. and we're praying that they have enough devotion to seek solution to this problem.

I am just wondering.  In the earlier post or was it in the article in Bohol Chronicle, it mentioned that the victim, Mr. Williams, hired a security guard after the attempt on his life right in his Bar (Sea or She Bar, way klaro).  Where was he when the incident happened?  And just like other posters, I also wonder why he was in Mansasa that day when I supposed he had a home in Panglao.

Also, Priscilla challenged the security guard of the Mangrove KTV Bar and Restaurant and Lodging House to produce pictures as proof that Mr. Williams indeed brought women with him when he checked in to the Lodging House. It isn't possible otherwise the security guard will be in great trouble with the Bar/Restaurant/Lodging House patrons.  It's intrusion of the privacy of the patrons.  Let us just let the investigators do their job and trust that Mr. Williams' death shall be given justice.

I hope the foreigners in our province also consider that what happened to Mr. Williams is something that embarrassed us as Boholanos/Filipinos.  This is not something about them being foreigners or us being Filipinos. It's about life and no one deserves to die in the manner that Mr. Williams died.  Peace to all!

vengeance, envy , syndicates, but most of them are plain robbery just like what happen in Boracay. An evil lurks seeing others splurge in luxury while others feel the angst against misery. oh what brought modernity!

i am going to write this on behalf of martin, I will tell you what he belived and are true facts. Martin met his wife margi (gee gee) in liverpool england, she was visiting her sister who is married over here. Martin and gee married and had a child who is british. after many holidays to the alona beach area martin decided to sell everything here and move to his fabulous house he built with his new family. his wife never wanted to go at the time as she had not yet got her british visa. They had only been there a few weeks the marraige wasnt going well all she wanted was to return to england and apply for her british visa which is what she done, but when she came back to england on her own (with the baby) she got refused and retuned to martin with her tail between her legs. Martin believed if she had of got it he would never of seen her again. but martin knew after she done this that she only ever used him and sadly he knew she never ever loved him, that was the reason there marriage ended. He was then in his eyes a single man and dated a few females, but so what, he was not commited to anyone he certainly never needed to rape anyone. After the shooting he put up a reward to find out who was behind it all and it came to light and true facts are his estranged wife offered money to a bar maid to poison him. The rape charges are only off people who were offered money for ther statments the ones who say he raped them are friends of Margie his wife, other females who refused the bribes told martin they were approached by the local police to say he raped them and were all offered money for the statments. His estranged wife had a uncle who was in the police and another family member was a local govenor. Martin was on the path to getting his marriage annulled on the grounds his wife only ever married him to become british, if that had of happened she would then of had no claim to his ten million passo house or buisiness, In her eyes he had to die before this happened. Martin truly believed his wife was behind everthing that happened to him and i know most other people believe this to.  The day after his death she moved straight into his house, martin would turn in his grave knowing she got what she wanted. his wish ,he told us,.  was that if onyone succeeded in killing him he would want his house bulldozed down and the land contaminated. She couldnt get her visa so she wanted his house, business and money,. This whole situation makes me angry and the way the pathetic law is over ther she will proply get away with this. I pray to god there will be justice. I hope martin can rest in peace. We will miss you so much matey, you were loved by many. x x x .

The mystery that sorounds Martin's death was done by a professional killers, it is understood that a certain group planned and executed the crime. The root can
not be fully established since the local police has not yet handed out the result of their inquiry, ato nalang huwaton ang pnp o nbi sa ilang final report.

What have I been saying the whole time!

Steve emailed me the same email today and called me and he was also here around Xmas time I had met with him and Martin at Dunkin.

The entire family circle and freindship circle of Martin from England has been nothing but thankfull and gracious for my straight up thoughts and work on this case.

I have with me the afidavit signed by Martin and afidavits signed by other attempted victims to go up against Martin in a wrong and dishonest way.

I would like to know why was this case see easy to solve being it invilved an X governors relative when other crimes go unsolved for days, weeks, months years to never being solved.

I am proud of my freind Steve for being a real man with real balls to tellit to you the way i have.

Even what he told me matched exactly to one of martins afidavits because I had met Steve at the mall with Martin on that exact day and time when of the liar girls the one he mentioned had said that was one of the times she was allegedly raped.

I also have the name of the tourist police who is doing the dirty work allegedly.

Kudos to you Bloke!

By the way I have read the dummy copy of the post newspapers copy for tommorow's release I was specifically told not to post the picture of the victim but the Post did it.

there is a combo story and my column and possibly the editorial will be about Martin.

Martin knew he had a trusted Atty in Lim. He always thanked me for everything in my help and now that he is dead I am still here as a freind.

Steve I will email you in a second I have some news that should make you guys happy in England.

Ian the brother of Martin has been emailing me also and his neice, as no one else over here wants to divulge any information you are right-O about some of the laws over here.

Email you soon! :)

I worked with martin and got to know him quite well , but not as much as my brother Steve ,with whom he built a good friendship. I just want to say that we were told exactly what was going on and also know about the  shooting incident . What Steve has written is the truth behind this awful case and it should be taken seriously , i admire him for being so open and truthful.
This is a very very sad thing to have of happened and at the end of the day Martin was a dad, a husband and a friend but most of all he was someones son .
All these terrible accusations are obviously made by people who probably are part of the group involved with or know more about this terrible murder , how do these people sleep at night , i would say have some respect for Martin and his family, and think about what you post on here but it is probably a word that they would never understand.
It is obvious who is behind this awful murder it should not be brushed aside the person guilty behind the whole thing must be punished.
Our condolences are with Martins parents and children and all his family.

Truth is always in the best interest of everyone. Everyone loses if justice is not served.

May those who know Martin and also have direct knowledge of this crime step out of their anonymity in this forum and execute statements that can be used in court.

This case stands a better chance of being solved than the earlier ones. For one, the suspects are in custody. They are minors and cannot be prosecuted as adults. But if they were indeed part of a conspiracy, if this were a premeditated murder, and these minors were just hired hands, their statements would be as valuable in court as any adults'. Corroborating evidence would just be what is needed to pin down whoever is/are indeed responsible.

Precy, we are behind you in your bid to expose the truth. Justice for Martin is justice for all.

Is it greed, hate or jealousy? that this guy must die? The truth is that foreigners have no rights here. They can`t owned properties without marriage, they have to pay for their stay even though they`re married.
A Filipino citizen could build the biggest house in Germany or make the biggest business in town, they could stay lifetime without paying a single cent. They get all the rights, what the foreigners don`t have here in the Philippines. Is it not unfair? I know what Iam talking about .

Suspects in Williams' Murder Arrested
published by the Bohol Chronicle

In its manhunt operations police arrested on Thursday two youngsters involved in the brutal killing of British national Martin Williams (aka Martin Hawthorne) who was found dead Tuesday morning in Boloc-boloc Spring, barangay Mansasa, this city.

The City Police confirmed they arrested one Christian Gulle, 22 years old, and his female teenage companion, 19-year old Irene Borja, both residents of barangay Mansasa.

Operatives found an identification card of Gulle at the crime scene which gave them a lead to arrest the male assailant who was at his parents’ house Thursday morning. Investigators said Gulle admitted to stabbing Williams 14 times after the victim allegedly tried to rape and hurt his teenage companion.

Gulle confessed that he met Williams Monday night at Bojol Grill where both shared food and drinks.

Later that night, at around 10 p.m., Williams purportedly invited Gulle and Borja to continue their drinking spree at Boloc-boloc Spring, just about a hundred meters from the Bohol Mangrove KTV Bar and Lodging house where the British man was checked in.

According to Gulle, he was a few meters away from Williams and Borja whom he believed to have been bathing at the spring when he heard the latter shout. Upon rushing to the scene, Gulle said he saw Borja lying on the ground and in pain. He said he tried to help the girl get up but Williams allegedly started shouting at him which he could not understand.

Gulle admitted “things happened so fast” and when he took his knife to stab Williams several times, he did not stop as he was scared that the heavily-built foreigner would get back at him.

Gulle provided policemen the identity of his alleged cohort (Borja) who sought refuge in the house of a brother-in-law in a remote barangay in Sierra Bullones.

She was arrested by elements of the Sierra Bullones Police Thursday afternoon and was later turned over to the Tagbilaran Police who launched a full investigation regarding the suspect.

Williams, 43, had been wearing just sandals, shorts and t-shirts and was dead for several hours when his body was discovered, according to Dr. John Paul Bernaldez of the city health office.

i don't think this is true and fair. i live here in a foreign country too and work my ass off just as hard as anyone who tries to make a living in a strange land. everyone who legally lives in a foreign country, Filipino or not, is paying their dues to the government where they live, whether they are making a house or establishing a business.

and i don't know why your statement has any relevance to this topic.

After reading about the arrests, i do hope the investigation does not end here. There is so much more to this than meets the eye and i hope and pray that the people arrested will now tell the truth to who is really behind it all. . There is so much more sinister and deep rooted, i hope the police get all of his wifes text messages she sent martin over the last few months which i know included some death threats and also only started once she got her british visa refused.. . Martin was befriened by his perpertrators and lured to his death, its all so obvious to everyone and we all know what we believe, lets just hope the case does not close here and true justice is served. .

After reading about the arrests, i do hope the investigation does not end here. There is so much more to this than meets the eye and i hope and pray that the people arrested will now tell the truth to who is really behind it all. . There is so much more sinister and deep rooted, i hope the police get all of his wifes text messages she sent martin over the last few months which i know included some death threats and also only started once she got her british visa refused.. . that's all we hope for, steve. foreigners and filipinos alike.

This Sunday edition of the Bohol Standard which included a write up of an interveiw from the alledged murderer himself inside of his Jailcell at Tagbilaran City police.

I will just type a partail of what was said in the write up as far as latest happenings are concerned.

The Bohol Standard....

"martin was supposed to attend a court hearing last Friday befor the Regional Trial Court, Branch 4, for the hearing of the permanent rotection order filed by his wife.

However a day before the hearing, Atty. Gertrude Ester Biliran filed a motion to withdraw as counsel with-out any reason given and the wife did not appear also. The following day, after Martin Williams was murdererd , his wife Margie Gamayot entered their house in Panglao, Bohol which has been closed for quite a-time since Martin Williams did not feel secure after the shooting incident at his bar last January 11, 2009 and because he was always threatend through text messages.
An attempt of murder case was filed by Martin Williams against Junrey Polinosa of Pagadian City, the alleged hired killer of Martin William's.

Martin was in good spirit a week before he died in a conversation he had with me, His exact words were (I am winning } He new he would not have been found guilty of rape, one reason being one of the females worked for him after the so called rape incident , I ask you would any female work for the man who raped her , She was also a freind of his  ASTRANGED wife . He also told me he would be divorced soon , which im lead to believe should of  came through this week It makes my blood boil to also know his wife moved into his house the day after his death , his pick up car has been sold and his wifes father is ridding his Honder 200moter bike . How quickly they moved into his house and took his posesions when they all are ment to live on another island ( latte ),He wasnt even cold , There must be justice, please if the Philipieno officals dont act this will happen again . I know there are many many lovely philipienos.

We do not have investigation protocol. His property should be wrapped with "police line do not cross" while the case is under investigation. No one should be allowed to touch anything inside Martin's house, even his wife.

Since there is no state prosecutor system in the Philippines, someone should stand on behalf of Marten as his next of kin and file a court case so that suspects/masterminds could be arrested, detained and investigated.

If nobody is bold enough to stand for Martin, then criminals will walk freely.

i hope this murder incident is just an isolated case as the boholano people i know are peace loving citizens.

and i do hope, ma'am, that you reconsider your decision to pull out your investment in bohol.

pnp, what is really going on in bohol now? is this an isolated case or "i" am the isolated case here? thanks

with the capture of the suspect and securing few evidences, i have no doubt there's going to be a good break as regards to this case, crusader. the murder has tarnished the image of our province. our local government knows fully well the extent of the damage that this kind of savagery done to our local tourism and security. all of us here are keeping our fingers crossed that justice will be done. thanks for you interest in investing to our lovely province. you may have pulled the plug off, still we're hoping the interest will soar again soon.

I have been reading this story with much interest, as i am also a wealthy person who was planning on buliding a hotel near to the new airport thats planned to be built in bohol. After many days contemplating i have decided against any investment in the area. We feel safe in most counties around the world we abide by the laws, but there a few people in this county who  think they are above the law and take it into ther own hands. Its so obvious the real killers of martin think they can get away with this, it is an insult to your counrty and to your government.  If they are allowed to get away with this how is anyone ment to feel safe. Something must be done and the laws changed to protect people. who want to invest there money there. MY condolances to martins family and friends. x

Yes Manay Tessie, we share the same doubt. Looking at the whole scenario, perhaps I am not the only one skeptical here.

Let's restore perspective in this case.

It's too bad people are cancelling reservations and calling off investment plans in Bohol because of this incident. I respect the feelings of those who know Martin personally. But let's give chance for the legal system in the Philippines to run its course before we make conclusions.

Meanwhile, the rest of us who have no personal connection to Martin but are just as shocked--as all peace-loving Boholanos should be--should add our voice in prodding the authorities towards the swift resolution of the case. But please, let us not blow this incident beyond reasonable proportion.

Let me invite those who are considering alternative holiday destinations or investment locations, due to this unfortunate incident, to google under News comparable options. See what percentage of news today in these places are related to crime, conflict, disaster and negative events in general.

Just check out the first page of the google news results today and see if our findings agree:

Chiang Mai--out of 20 news items, 8 are related to crime, conflict, unrest, environmental problem, etc

Bali--out of 21 news items, 9 are related to crime, conflict, unrest, terrorism, environmental problem, etc.

Maldives--out of 24 news items, 5 are related to crime, conflict, unrest, environmental problem, etc

Cebu--out of 21 news items, 10 are related to crime, accident, conflict, unrest, etc.

Bohol--out of 20 news items, 0 are related to crime, accident, conflict, unrest, etc. (By the way, I'm not sure if this is negative news For sterner bite, anti-rabies workers get paralegal training. Anyway, let's just give 1 point away.)

Sorry if I miss the mark by 1 to 5 points, but the internet is constantly updated and numbers can change anytime.

So friends, thanks for considering Bohol and deciding it's not the best place for you. I am sure you'll find your place in the sun.

By the way, just one last piece of unsolicited advice, please don't sink your money in Maldives, because this place is sinking fast into the Indian Ocean. Happy trip, have fun!

Exactly one week ago at this time Martins life was taken away from him, our times spent together with him were nice ones as he was fun smart educated and had a good head on his shoulders.
He was not a snob about anything just a man who wanted to settle here with his wife. I have heard from reliabe sources including Martin that his life was already uncompfortable before he got it. The baby daughter of Martin and his wife holds a british passport

As for your news gathering Ben- I do recal many things happening thing but things also get white washed as well.

It happens many times here. We have many unsolved murder cases and robbery cases here.

I am here in the media and make regular check ups at the station just to see how lami the blotter can be.

I have to agree with what was said earlier about the right justice prevailing. I agree for everyones safety sake that we wait for the justice to prevail and one of Martins family should come here and claim what is they'res. and assist in the investigation into Martins killer. The motive as we kknow Martin would not invite hoodlums and young ones to eat and drink with him.
Martin had class and that is not his style to invite hoodlums to join him at the table.

How many of Martins freinds in here are hoodlum type? I do not recall any of his freinds being like the alleged murderer type of person.

Martins freinds that I have met through out have they're lives together and are pretty darn sweet many of his freinds have been here to visit him off and on Martin must have been a super nice person for his freinds to want to visit him so many miles away,

My email and cell fone are always on anytime of the day.

I first met Martin in 1994 while working at Vauxhall’s and from that time on we became good friends.  In this time My Wife and I were introduced to his 1st wife and welcomed to his home in Heswall.  Several times Martin and I would enjoy going for a drink and socialising, we also had the same hobby interest of jet skiing.  We always had a good laugh at work and he had lots of friends at his workplace.  I will always remember Martin as a joker who was always laughing and winding other people up.  He was from my point of view honest and trustworthy.

I have spoken to Steve on the telephone and asked to be updated.

I was very shocked and saddened on Saturday to learn of Martin’s death, my thoughts are with his Family at this terrible time.

Here’s what I think in my opinion,

The Bohol Chronicle should never have published the photograph on the internet of Martin’s lifeless body, firstly it is so undignified the poor man must have suffered enough, secondly his parents do not need to see their poor son in that condition and finally this picture says to me, if you go against us (locals) then this is what will happen.  This kind of media would not be tolerated in Great Britain as to protect the Family from shocking images.

Ian, Wallasey.
