The news I am about to tell is for a mature audeince.

The detalis of this event will be described graphically.

and in order of sequence in respect to being a good freind  with the victim and the only one here to write about the case from the first attempted homicide.

There was also a second homicide attempt

Then the final homicide attempt was gruesome down to the last detail.

I will post about the deadly grotesque state in how my freinds body was found.

Before going into details of this mornings really horrible findings I will post my write up from an interveiw i had with Marten in early Janurary.

Marten Williams age 43 from Liverpool England. Marreid to a Filipina in England in an arranged wedding in England, A freind of martens introduced his wife freind via mail. The wife of Marten is a freind of his freinds Filipina wife.

When i met Marten over a year a go he told me he was leasing a bar and had a wife who was really mean to him. He also said the wife had run off to another province with the couples baby that is born in England.

He also told me about the property and 10mllion house he had built in panglao, the house is very big and very beautif.

I warned Marten not to be to trusting.

7-9 months later my freind calls me and tels me he needs my help to expose his story and that he has an alleged suspect trying to assainate him. We had met later in the morning at Gerry's Grill. That is when Marten told me that someone in black pants and a black shirt had come from behind the bushes and fired two live amunition aimed and intended for him.

I will post up the first rough draft to my firs write up regarding Marten and what he told me during the interview. I will then post some of what I said in a column in the newspaper in a second follow up interveiw.

Then i will go into the gory and horrid way in how my British foreign freind was murdered.

When I introduced Marten to Atty. Lim Martens exact words were "I am worth more dead than alive!"

If I can not finnish this build up of events then i will work on it after I wake up as it is almost 430am here.

British bar Owner nearly missed by assasinators Bullets

Martin Williams a British national from Liverpool England was a near miss target two times in a shooting incident last Sunday night inside his business establishment “She Bar” located on Rona’s corner, and near to Alona entertainment center located Tawala, Panglao Island.
Martin was sitting at his bar side counter entertaining British guest when all of a sudden his doorman shouted out loud “He has got a gun!” warning employees and patrons inside the establishment while two long caliber rifle bullets were fired off inside of the foreign owner’s establishment according to Williams and his report with both the tourism police and the local municipal PNP station of Panglao.
Williams told Bohol media that he believes the bullets were intended for him in last Sunday’s incident that had occurred around half past eleven in the evening.
Williams said he was able to get the customers and his employees to safety by letting them run out the back door since it was the disco room that they had run into at his establishment.
Williams said that he can not recall having any grudges or any reason as to what could be the motive for the incident that had taken place last week at hi bar.
Around 11 o’clock PM last Sunday Jan, 11th, two witnesses am Angelina Arboleras and a Teresita Cardiente 23 years of age saw an unidentified male person wearing long black pants and a black tee shirt who had appeared in front of the She Bar establishment and pulled out a an unidentified fire arm two times while using a silencer towards the inside of the bar. The first bullet hit the bamboo fence and scathed along top the table and landed down on the bar’s lower concrete portion.
The second bullet fired landed into the corner portion of the bar under the bar. Both two pieces of ammunition were recovered at the crime scene and the evidence is being held at the Tawala PNP Tourism police outlet post.
Martin said in the interview that it had taken him around ten minutes to notify the tourism police about one minute walking distance from his place..
In his life right at hand Williams’s number one priority and concerns is his life’s safety being that he is a foreign business owner here. And that he hopes that the police and the provincial governor make steps in preventing such things as what took place from happening again.
Williams also told to the local media that he is planning to meet up with Bohol’s provincial Governor Erico Aumentado and would like to discuss such matter’s as being able to motivate and move police in a much faster and better way in protecting the safety and life of those who come to be tourist and are planning on becoming foreign investor’s here in Bohol.
Williams enjoys being able to live and own a business in Bohol but would like to see that safety be faster and better improved.
After the shooting incident had taken place in William’s bar he said on Monday the following day he made fast action in hiring for himself his own personal bodyguard who now goes to work with him and goes home with him to live.
Williams said he is adamant in capturing his suspect shooter and said that he is willing to give out a cash reward of PhP 20.000.00 for the direct information leading to the actual arrest and prosecution.
As of late Friday night when the Bohol standard tried to follow up this crime situation in Panglao according to mayor Acala’s Secretary Arthur B. Arboladura the mayor had not yet been informed of the incident taking place in what will soon become a prime tourist destination for Bohol.
The right informant person who gives out the proper information that leads to the actual arrest will be kept confidential regarding his identity.
Williams has made flyers in the binocular language for locals in Panglao in order to inform them that there will be a cash reward and already has it posted at his bar where the crime scene crime had taken place.
Other foreign business management from Alona Beach shared with the media after interviewing Williams, that what has happened last Sunday in Alona at “She Bar” has everyone on edge who is a foreigner handling a business in Alona Beach Panglao these past few day’s.

The guy hired to do the job was also the x boyfreind of the bar employee she reussed to do the offer.

My column title read like this on the second interveiw "Foreign Business Owner's in panglao say SOS

I had mentioned about the poisoning and how scared Marten was and how he would like to have the government  help conrol tjhings better to encourage foreign investors to want to invest.

He complained to me about the harrassment of the Panglao Tourism police.

He told me they harrassed him constantly. They were even going to houses and trying to convince young girls who knew Marten to lie and say that he had raped them and that they would be guarunteed 5000 peso's

A couple of girls made sworn affidavits that they were asked to go up against marten.

Some one has to be behind this and maybe they are canvassing behind VOWC.

I will get into that later.

I told my publisher Atty. Lim who is Martens Atty that is seemed rather strange how one Atty. here has a double case in one weeks time that has two wives both with murdrered husbands?

I would hate to be in her shoes to VIA BOHOL MURDER and now Alona Panglao's "SHE BAR" owner. Both her clients husbands are murdered.

Marten spoke to me often during the week at either Bojols, Brewpoints, Gerry's grill, Dunkin Donuts, ICM, we would take snacks together.
I always told him to be carefull.

We had even talked about and treid to make appointments with the Governor to introduce a new foreigner association but the Governor is always out.

Yesterday Marten was to see Atty. Lim but said he was in Ubay and told Atty. that he would see him yesterday at 9am.

Marten never showwed up for his appointment. Martens was found murdered yesterday along the shores of Mansasa bay.

His stomach parts were found hanging from tree's he was stabbed and slashed 14 times. After the brutal killing he had been dragged some 30mitres to the shore.

The trail of blood was the clue. I would like to know where is this so called trusted lady freind of his who told Marten she was a tour guide and a model from Cebu?

She use to accompany him and I also told Marten be carefull about everyone here. She worked in his bar.
She had some sort of pains a couple weeks ago he took here to the hospital they were staying in a local hotel while having court cases in town.

Marten was a great person he had a good heart and he was treated like crap!

One night in Alona a Filipino had an accident on his motor Marten loaded him into his own truck and took him all the way to tagbilaran hospital. Unfortunantly the motor victim passed away a couple of hours later.

Marten had many freinds here both foreigner and Filipino. I am sorry my mind keeps going back to the morgue scene when Atty. Lim and I had gonr together to see Marten sewn up cold bloated body embalmed waiting for todays visit from the NBI.

I stood at the door crying with my daughter looking at a sweet freind who I could barely recognize. I think I am tired and I have had a long day. Atty. im was also angered at who could be so brutal and and was kept busy using my Camera's taking pictures.

I need to end it here. I am to upset to go on much further.

I have supplied DYRD and Bohol Chronicle all day with info about Marten.

Please Boholanos pray for Martens justice.

I will do my best to keep you updated.

Two high-profile murders in the span of one month! They have not even caught the culprit in Taray's murder yet, and nobody's stepping forward to testify.

There is no use in building Panglao airport and upgrading tourist facilities if we cannot even provide basic security for residents and tourists. And I thought Bohol PNP is one of the most acclaimed units in the country, Bohol being designated as the training area for SWAT.

Whoever they are in private--whether or not they entered into transactions or committed actions that aroused anger and animosity--Taray and Martin did not deserve this kind of death.

This is sickening. Bohol is no longer the peaceful haven that we know.

Patay foreigner sa Mansasa
« Reply #8 on: March 25, 2009, 12:15:16 PM »
This is just going by what I've been told by people who live in the area:
A foreigner was shot, execution style in the head and found in the vicinity of the seawater swimming pool in Mansasa yesterday.  His motorbike was still there, parked nearby.

Crime in this area (just east of Tagbilaran) has risen recently.  I am going by anecdotal evidence, a number of relatives and friends have been held up or burgled in the past few months.

Better to continue in the thread of Precious since she has more complete information.

I am sorry to interject with this off-topic comment.

Filipino and Boholano readers are more familiar with the word "man" or "male" than the informal British word "bloke."  I think the use of formal language would at least give the dead the respect due him, given the indignity of his death.

Murder plus mutilation/mockery is not simply killing, but an emotional aspect is involved. Moreover, robbery is not the motive/link to the killing.

Hence, one should conclude that deep seated anger and human emotion is the motive of this all.

Clearly, this is not a work of a hired killer, but I strongly believed the assasin/antagonist is the aggreived person.

Hence, investigation should revolve closely around the victim's contacts.

Hope this helps solve the crime and speed up justice.

Bloke is the common English term for respecting men in in England Marten wanted me to call him bloke.

I have heard from the atty. network that his wife atty. said that her client went to the morgue late afternoon yesterdayb to look at the body and left.

It is not clear whether or not she is making arrangements.

The law firm handling Marten's case are sad as hey have lost a kind freind.

We all had a difficult time of sleeping last night when we wanted to just remember marten for his goodness.

New's in todays chronicle was not accurate. The case schelduled for this friday was for a restraining order not for rape as stated.

the name of Martens bar is SHE BAR not Sea bar as mentioned by the Bohol Chronicle.

I need to go now as I have just received an email from Tony in England who is Martens best freind who was planning at first to build a business besides Martens bar but because of what happend to Marten he packed out.

I will let you know what he sais.

I need to give him the bad news.

I emailed freind of Marten in England he is very upet in his email as he had just went back home from Tagbilaran.

I did not go into detail but i did let him know that I and my publisher had gone there togive our respects at the morgue.

I told him that I am prresently trying to do what marten would want me to do in this sittuation.

That would be tostart up a foreigner association group to help foreigners who are victims of crime.

I also told him we will do our best in the media as far as the Bohol Standard and the Bohol chroncle are in partnership to cover this story.

In janurary I had taken this write up on the first attempted homicide to the Sunday Post but Boy Guing the publisher did not expose the story.

I am sure they will jump on it now that he has been murdered.

This late afternoon I would like all foreigners living here to meet at brewspoint to discuss our safety here while in Bohol.
We should make a statement so that Governer can get it by Governers report and make some actions on how he plans to better everyones safety.

I will be inviting guest speakers to talk with the group today here in Tagbilaran.

This is an invitation letter to all foreigners visiting and living here in bohol as either short term or as a permanent resident. Please contact my in box if you are attending the emergency meeting today o get the ball rolling for a safer Bohol

Hi Prescilla!

First of all I want to thank you for all your efforts to keep us informed about the latest news regarding the murdered Briton.  This is detrimental for us Bol-anons since we are proud of our peaceful and friendly province.
Being a foreigner living in Germany,  it is a wise step to organize yourselves as foreigners living in Bohol.
I think it is also advisable to  determine the group’s purpose and mission so that you can plan an organizational structure to accomplish them.
This is a necessity to protect your interest and to act in solidarity in case of exigencies. Wishing you good luck and best regards.

truly yours,
Tessie Bertumen Wilms

Hi Prescilla,

I salute you for this initiative. As a foreigner living in Japan, I also find having an organized group a big advantage in terms of having our voice heard, conveying our concerns to authorities, exchanging tips on daily living and safety, etc.

I believe that living a low-key lifestyle, studying and respecting local culture and norms, showing social courtesy without being too chummy, avoiding situations of personal conflict, and taking reasonable personal precaution in one's daily conduct will keep us from harm's way. Of course, a generous dose of prayers will also go a long way.

Remember that your concerns are also ours, and we have more at stake because for better of for worse Bohol is our hometown. That is why we fervently pray that you will succeed in your initiative and that the government will hear your voice and pay heed to the security concerns of the community.

My update,

There was a personal school ID of a high school student that was remain at the crime scene in mansasa near to Martens body.

I am asking foreigners who live here to attend the safety and welfare meeting at Brews Point Soledad Suites today at 5PM.

It has been really hard to organize a meeting some foreign men have no interest.

Very poor attitude. some have expressed interest.

Wish me well.

Thanks!

If anyone is in the local media please contact me before you dare print anything negative or hear say.

Marten was not proven guilty about rape.

Respect my dear friend how I would respect yours in this situation.

Print just the facts not the hear say.

Since i know who Martens friends are here and they talk great about how wonderfull he truly was.

Thanks Pressy for this initiative.

This is very shameful to all of us Boholanos. They are our guests and we supposed to treat them fairly and look after thier safety, but what happened now? Where is our hospitality?

Our image is ruined and I find it hard to face and tell this story to any of my foreigner friends.

Last month, I told in separate thread that I invited one our British consultant who's daughter (now in New Zealand) once worked for Bohol Government to take inventory of Raja Sikatuna wild life. We had a plan to go to Bohol this TBTK. Sadly, he declined and I also told him that it is very risky and I can not guarantee his safety.

Hopefully, the Bohol leaders would pass a bill to intensify police force in tourism zones, not in terms of quantity but of quality.

The nature of business has Marten got into will invite him into trouble specially Beer Houses with ladies working GRO cum prostitute.

I never heard someone succeed in this Business in Bohol. Because of over jealous kin, found out their relatives working as GROs will castigate the girls.

The gruesome nature of the killing is for vengeance or revenges. Hope this serve us warning to those got involved in this nature of business.

Some try to import prosti from Leyte or Mindanao to work as GRO in Bohol. But never with in Boholana to work in Bohol.

This is my observation, being proprietor of a restaurant in Tagbilaran before. Bawal ang beerhouse sa Bohol. Just my assumption. Don't take it as an advice.

Condolence to Marten's bereaved family.

Marten was never proven guilty of the charges. Tourism police will do anything to make some money on the side.

I was told by Martin that mothers and they're daughters were approached by PNP members to allegate fake charges against Martin as a rapist.

The girls I heard were supposedlt told that if they had went up against Martin they would be gaurunteed 5000 peso.

Certain panglao police members have been known to haggle foreign tourist and take advantage of them.

I am telling you Martin had become a very dear and loved freind of the Atty. Lim family and any other business man or freind he made here see's martin as not the picture that is being painted by some people here.

Two suspects are in custody I have both names and one is a woman and the other is a  young high school boy.

He had attended Manga High School.

The girl was aprehended in Siera bouilunas, and the boy in town.

The boy confessed so far into stabbing Martin JUST 5x's

The investigator told me today that the motive in why the young boy stabbed Martin was because of getting into a confrontation.

Supposedlt according to the alleged suspects hear say Martin picked up a large object and then the boy went for the stab.

1-2-3-4-5-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?-?

I was not informed of the girls words as far as how she had tesiteid because while i was interveiwing Inspector E. Chan he was ordering hhhis boy's to go after the girl in seira boulinas police headquarters and bring her into the Tagbilaran city police station for questioning and to hold her into custody.

Both alleged suspects are in custody as untill now.

Later i will add an email from Tony Harris who has informed me that he has contacted already the British Interpole and martins parents.

The british embassy is handling the dispose of Martin ...

I would hope?

Many freinds of Martin who know martin are pissed that they say he is a chicks boy and chasing girls what freaks and I really want to talk to the security guard at the place that said that.

Cover up or big time ruthless fabrication. If we kill a man for being a chicks boy then I maybe the world would have more women then men living in it.

So next time i see a chick boy I was just call him "MARTIN".

This chick boy rape case s*** blows my mind maybe 2-3 nights a week we spent many a night chatting at in town establishments untill often 2am or 3am and in no way is he how or near to how they describe him.

I asked the investigator to show the proof?

The security guard words only are good enough for him? Thats wrong!

Martin checked in with an employee of his who was a witness in his previos court cases they would check in there so they would not have to drive far from his house in Panglao to his atty. appointments and his court appointments.

the exact reason martin had text to me saying he was going to pay an amount of money to lim the following morning since he had missed his appointment the day before for taking back his freind to her province.

Martin had asked for some foreigners to sit in on his restraining order case this friday for moral support.

It's too late for that what has been done has been done.

I did fullfill a dream of Martins and that was I started an International association here that we had discussed last week together to help those foreigners coming here who have harrassing law on them or have been victims in a crime.

I had taken his picture to the meeting today and placed it on the table beside the picture in a local newspaper that had showed his body lifeless and mangled.

We the foreigners and the Filipino of the group freinds of Martin will not stand for this as accepted excusses or reasoning to brutally murder someone.

I will post our manifestation, letter of comprehension later on that we signed today.

The Juvenile Justice Act law had better not play any role in this case what so ever Martin would never hurt anyone he would try to help the person instead.

I am mad!

Blog later.

Hi my name is Steve Ocallaghan and im a very good friend of Martin, I was with martin at the time of the shooting. I was sitting at his bar with my partner Julie. Martin was a kind and loving person who loved life to the full. He worked hard all his life for what he had and all he wanted was a simple life in a beautiful part of the world. One strange thing about the shooting was that ten mins before he got a text message off his wife saying "GOODNIGHT" I ask one question who is the only person to gain anything from his death? I hope more than anything that justice will be served. Me and Julie would like to take this oppertunity to thank all the kind people who are on his side. Regards Steve and Julie.

Steve,

Thank you for blogging and sharing your thoughts about Martin. I am an American freind of Martin for about one year some where in that area.

The security guard at Mansasa where it is that Martin checks in must be either biased or just simply sticking up for his own when he has been telling the investigator on the case that Martin had brought several girls to that same place? (Read-What the ****!).

I was only aware of his witness and him checking into the place to save gas and be on time for their appointments. Martin was with his witness always. Even when we were out talking and eating dinner or snacks together. That girl his witness worked with him for a few months untill he had to close his bar because of all tyhe threats.

I want that security guard to produce real pictures of evidence that Martin checked in with many different girls.

I also want to see matching finger prints of the item that Martin was using to supposedly go after the boy after a confrontation had taken place? This was according to the investigator.

Why did the boy confess to only five stabbings there are 14 total who did the other nine?

Here is the worst part these kids will not be serving any time in jail or prison because there is a juvenile justice law that no matter what crime they commit they do not go to jail or prison. Not sure how it will work in this case.

Marten is about 5'8 and in great shape.

there has been alot of gossip here not good but maybe it is there way to jusity that what they do here is okay.

They want to make Martin look bad wen actually he is just the opposite the total opposit.
So many business people who know Martin are in disbeleive of the crap being said that is so not true.

I was able to start the international foreign group that martin and I had been discussing recently.

I had put it together in two hours and ended upmaking new freinds and about eight os us were there.

Here is the Comprehensie letter to be put in the paper this weekend.

It was signed by all the new members as of today.

We have sponsorship from McDonalds, Hollywood Bizzare, and Atty. Trabajo Lim who is Martins Atty.

BOHOL INTERNATIONAL WELCOME ASSOCIATION

( BIWA )

“Hurting Foreigners is Hurting Tourism”

The Bohol International Welcome Association (Biwa), a Bohol-wide alliance of foreigners who have adopted the Province of Bohol as our home, strongly condemns threats and the recent increase of violent crimes involving our foreign friends here in the Province.

The past months, we have witnessed our fellow migrants and tourists being the victims of harassment and brutal crimes that prompted us to comprehensively analyze the situation and how we should band together in an effort to protect ourselves with the help of the government.

Sometime in April 2007, a German national and his wife were murdered by suspected burglars right at their very own home in Barangay Laya, Baclayon. The case remain hanging as some suspects are still at large while those in trial have not been meted the full force of the law due to delays in the Philippine Justice System. Last year, a retired US serviceman was killed in an accident involving a city government vehicle which lost its brakes and slammed into the American who was riding his motorcycle. The victim’s Boholana fiancé was pregnant with the victim’s child however, neither the city government nor the provincial authorities ever lifted a finger to help arrest the government vehicle driver who now remains a free man.

More recently, another retired US serviceman from the Navy, became a victim of intimidation and threats by the nephew of his own wife. He was illegally detained after being held at knife-point in an enclosure of their home by the nephew, whom the retired US Navy treated as his own relative and welcomed to live in his abode. Instead of being arrested, the policemen who came to rescue the navy man was allowed to go scot-free leaving behind a terrified foreigner who came to Bohol barely nine months ago after he fell in love with the place. What is more worse, his wife refuses to give him his passport as he tries to seek safety and wants to fly back to the United States.

Then, the latest vicious attack that claimed the life of a British bar owner who was stabbed to death 14-times. He had been attacked two months ago and was almost killed by an assassin’s bullet. The police could not solve the unnecessary aggression to a foreigner who invested money and provide jobs to the locales. Until now, there is no assurance that the killers of the innocent foreigner will be brought to justice.

It is with steadfast resolution that we, the members of BIWA, representing dozens of other foreign immigrants here in Bohol , stand in solidarity that a serious campaign should be done by the government to protect foreigners living here in the province. Continued violence against us would create a dangerous situation that will unduly affect the Tourism industry of Bohol .

As foreign guests and migrants, we are more susceptible to abuse and harassment ranging from simple violations of our human rights to all sorts of criminality.

As such, we CONDEMN the violence against fellow foreigners and we appeal to the government to protect us under Philippine Laws and we stand in unity condemning the attacks against us.

We do not want to meddle with government affairs but we are just asking for the government’s help in ensuring our safety and rights.

In States or in any advanced countries, the spouse will be the main suspect of any death. In the states, there are government prosecutors as well as private investigators to hound the case.

In the Philippines, the suspect will be set free if no case is filled against him in 24 hours.

This type of system in the Philippines must be changed.

Yes, filipinos have more freedom than the states and we don't have a death sentence. That same freedom would be subject to abuse that kept us locked inside our house for fear of our lives, ironically.

This must be changed.

My condolences to Marten's family.

Re: Patay foreigner sa Mansasa
« Reply #55 on: March 27, 2009, 08:24:49 AM »
This is just going by what I've been told by people who live in the area:
A foreigner was shot, execution style in the head and found in the vicinity of the seawater swimming pool in Mansasa yesterday.  His motorbike was still there, parked nearby.

Ben, is this the case of Marten's? I am puzzled because the report of Pressy is stabbing 14 times and the rummors you got is shot execution style.

Would somebody clarify the matter?

To Precious and BIWA Members,

We are in solidarity with you in the search for justice for Martin and all other foreigners who have been victims of crimes.

Please don't ever think the locals or Philippine nationals are in cahoots with the perpetrators to deny justice to him. We share your frustration at the slow grind of justice in our country. We also share your overriding concern about safety in Bohol. Our silence does not mean complicity. Boholanos who comment here are mostly based outside Bohol, and have only secondary sources of information about this crime. With the rumors circulating even in the print media, any additional speculation on our part will only befog the truth.

Crime has no nationality. We mourn the tragedies your community has been subjected to by lawless elements. But at the same time we are happy that you have decided to keep Bohol your home. Your concerted action to bring the government's attention to your plight will eventually benefit the community as a whole.

I worked with Marten ( Steve and Bradders also) for a number of years and was shocked to hear of his murder. My heart goes out to his family. He was a fantastic bloke.

Bohol Chronicle and its police and medico-legal sources indicate that the cause of Martin's death was stabbing.

We really have to filter the information we receive because at this early stage, there are more rumors than facts.

Your prime suspect is the abandoned wife who seek asylum to another province bringing along his baby. She is the one capable of hiring killer to kill Marten as revenge and enrich herself as heir to the property of Marten. Why did Marten have a good relation to her wife is He is really a good man as Priscilla described Marten as a personal friend. Maybe thiers more to it than a just speculation.

What the motives of a wife, to kill his husband? What Marten owned is also owned by his wife. If Marten is a chickboy or let say having an affair with another girls in his club. Then maybe this is motives of the killing.

Then maybe theres another angle also that the relatives of supposed to be raped victim      also capable of hiring a killer or the boyfriend of the girl.

There is an established motives of the killing, other than hold-up or just a plane robbery. Beside it happened three time attempted murder. Anyway, hope justice will served for Marten.

I will asked  Atty. Calibo of NAPOLCOM to investigate this Officer who harassed Foreigner on their clubs. Priscilla can name some police officer who do this. When I come home We can summoned this Police officer. We reassigned then in Basilan.

The accounts don't add up. They raise more questions than answers.

Initial investigation indicates that this was a random incident, perpetrated by a pair of minors, who are just high school students. An ID card found among the bloody litter led to this important piece of information. A verbal altercation was supposed to have preceded the violence that resulted in 14 stab wounds.

What would provoke minors to such intensity of rage that they would fell a bigger man with vicious stab wounds? My doubt all boils down to the insufficiency of motive.

Was this part of the strategy of the mastermind, given that juveniles cannot be thrown the book in the court of law?

Bohol Chronicle states that the rap against Martin consisted of two rape cases, one of which was due to be heard the day his body was discovered. But his friends say Martin was a good man, and could not have possibly perpertrated the crime.

Our very own Precious here reports two previous attempts to Martin's life, one by gun and the other by poison. Why didn't the police treat these serious attempts to his life seriously by conducting an investigation?

Given the myriad questions, I really pray that this case will not just be filed among the unsolved cases.

Or "mysterious Bohol" will soon owe this name not to its unfathomable beauty, but to unsolved crimes due to inept law enforcement.

That was hearsay from various people in the Barangay.  PnP has the full story.

The only sage thing to say about keeping safe for foreigners who come here and marry: check out your future in-laws.  You are not only marrying a person, but an entire extended family.  If they are demanding or rude then run, no matter how much you love your fiancee.

Two Rape charges are very serious crime againts our Boholanas, And he still roaming around scatch free from the time of his murder, preying on young girls as his next victims. Is he supposed to be in jail, rape is a heinous crime in the Philippines. Marten is on bailed-out, as he can afford to hire a Lawyer. What about those two Boholanas who cannot afford a lawyer. Their families will get even in any ways.

As security guard testified he always check-in with different girls in a hotel. Thats make him a good person. I don't think so, Beside he using a pseudo name Martin Williams or a Martin Thornpe.

I like foreign Tourist to live in Bohol. But I don't like this kind of people preying on our young girls as sex slaves, because of poverty. Marry them and then abandoned later with their young child. And accused the family as leeches.

I like people to come marry our ladies, respect our tradition and culture, or religion. And live happily ever after. Enjoy Bohol as if its your own place.

A person is innocent until proven guilty, so let's leave the sentence to the court. Unfortunately, I think the decision on the raps against Martin will no longer be heard. But the judgment on his murder case will certainly be a test if our justice system is working.

Nothing can justify murder. Still, Rald's reminder to foreigners is cautionary. Foreigners who live long term or permanently in Bohol should pay attention to local sensibilities. I myself sometimes observe the indifferent and even loud attitude of some foreigners in public places such as malls, and squirm at foreign men hanging out with a number of scantily clad and heavily made up local women. Such behavior is acceptable in liberal societies, but grates at the sensibilities of the locals.

What makes things worse is if the male kin of these women witness such scenes. Or if foreigners make gestures or behave towards local women in ways that may be acceptable in their societies, but not to the local community. To the locals, "rape" is not necessarily the consummation of a forcible sexual act, but can consist simply in the forcible or unexpected act of hugging a woman tightly or kissing her.

When the offense is committed against the poor, who have no means to get even in court, they may just take the law into their hands.

With due respect to the deceased, I do not want to pre-judge Martin. But to dismiss the number of local testimonies on his liberal behavior towards women would be to summarily accuse these unrelated, disinterested witnesses of malicious collaboration. Martin just has too many knots in his local relationships--in-laws, women, police, local men--for him to continue to take for granted his personal safety and indifferent behavior.

I believe increased consideration for the local sensibilities will help diminish these fatal flashpoints to our mutual relationship.

I think if the women did not ask always the foreign guys for money and other items when they put out maybe the guy could find a descent girl who is not always after what she can get because the Filipino man when he sleeps with the Filipina woman is she asking thousnds of pesos or for cell phones, or what ever as an exchange for sex.

Some guys who come here act like pigs yes I admit that about white guys I am not like that of some filipino who dennies what bad things my race is doing!

Also Filipino men are player's big time from any profession and not just Filipino men all over the world but that does not justify killing anyone.

besides manners what manners are you talking about?

seeing toilets not flushed, cutting in on people in line, oh it happens here to me alot and I say something like your rude, and do not do it again.

What do you mean bad habits?
I am  foreign woman here and please do not say I have bad manner's when in fact so many things here are done just the opposite of what i was told not to do as a kid.

Martin was BUOTAN kaayo!

I knew him in person as a freind did you?

Priscilla I'm thankful that you are here making positive statement on a foreigner point of view.

But to be factual what really started this event. We tried to dig deeper on the situation according to your statement. We don't condemned Martin as Sexual predator. But we based our observation on the events that lead to murder.

For me a boutan kaayo stay in the house and take care of his family. Check-in a hotel with a lady witness because he might missed his appointment with his lawyer, I don't take this kind of alibi. Because, Tawala is just twenty minutes drive to Tagbilaran City.

I hope justice will prevail and We shall find peace in forgiveness.

The family and freinds of Martin tonight I responded to two very lengthy and long emails one from a neice and one from his brother.

I had said things to his family that are private as I had spoke to the 18 year old murderer last night in his jail.

I also seen the girl who is 16 and her mom and her freind wth Atty. Zamora at the fiscals office.

If i am a foreigner and seein how her freind behaives and how they were dressed and how tough they think they are and actted and how they looked was not any cream of the crop for anyone to attempt either descent sex with or rape.

Very dirty and rough looking as like hard up!

I do remember NIcole crying wolf for a going to America and oh my g*** after she supposedly had been raped by a navy man

Maybe the victim wants to go to England in my book murder is more serious then rape and the girl was not raped the mudrerer told me he had seen Martin in his underpants and the girl was in clothes and had either drunkardly fallen down and that is when she yelled for help.

The murderer came a running according to him and stabbed Martin then.

I do not see Rape thats what he toldme tonight so he can not say they were as he did not see marten pennetrating her.

why did they run? If she was raped she should of went to the policeand then immediatly to the dr. for dna sampling of semen, hair and follicle collection and then the coronar should of gotten the same from Martin.

did she have semen in her vagina samples semen lives up to 72 hours.

I have heard alot of chika chika here and I know and understand it is the culture to talk rude and say wrong to bring some one down.

Oh' I have had my fair share of being around Filipino men here who think their dung does not stink!

I get many offers but all are turned down.

I am just a nice person straight to the point and latley running on emotion.

I need to go to sleep I am cross and crankyola

Respect for many has gone out the door a long time a go for many.

People who pray need to practice what they pray for and work for it.

Do not pray and then ten minutes later your doing something of an act against god!

Thats were i get senstive here.

Yes, it's prudent to avoid righteous indignation over the indiscretions of others.  There are very few people with a clean record, and that goes for the holiest of men too.

Hi Precious,

Rape will not justify murder. Murder will not even justify another murder.

I do not condone the rudeness of the locals. Not flushing toilets and cutting in on people are rude anywhere, whether in Bohol, Liverpool or Saudi Arabia.

But try kissing a woman who is not your wife in public in Riyadh. I recall this headline bannered by Telegraph last year

British couple jailed for sex on Dubai beach
A British couple have been jailed for three months for having sex on a beach in Dubai.

I do not wish to obfuscate the issue, which is Martin's murder, a truly sad, regrettable incident for which the culprit has to be prosecuted.

I am just pointing out some foreigners' behavior that may predispose them to be victims of such horrendous crime.

As I live in a foreign land, I myself try to be mindful of the local sensibilities. Society's standards for acceptable sexual behavior are widely at variance. Because you bought sex from a poor local woman simply adds insult to the injury. It makes the behavior predatory.

I gather from what you are saying that the 16-year old female teenager claims to have been a victim of sexual assault by Martin, which was in progress at the time the other minor boy heard the commotion. She was a minor. To paraphrase you, she did not look good enough either for decent sex nor for rape. The place where the sexual act was supposed to have happened was a public place, a spring, where other people could come anytime. Martin was supposed to attend a court hearing that day on sex-related charges. The night before, he checked into the inn to be on time for the court hearing. And the hotel staff testified that he habitually brought in women there.

Too many trumped-up charges from too many different people. Buotan, I cannot contest a good friend's testimony. I just really wished Martin stayed out of harm's way. Murder is such a horrible way to die. The road is too wide for anyone not to see it coming.

Yes, it's prudent to avoid righteous indignation over the indiscretions of others.  There are very few people with a clean record, and that goes for the holiest of men too.

Hi Ben,

If you're alluding to me, it's not my intention to pontificate.

I am not even talking about sexual morality here. I just wanted to add to your list of practical precautions for foreigners to stay out of harm's way and enjoy life in Bohol.

1. Do not drive flashy cars.

2. A man should avoid the company of two or more local women in public places (especially if, to quote Precy, they don't look good enough for decent sex nor for rape).

3. The best and safest place to do it is in a private place, and try to make sure she signed a letter of consent if she is not your wife or girlfriend. (By the way, a dollar in her wallet nor a receipt of a mobile phone bought for her is not a sign of consent, to clarify Precy's earlier remark.)

To the family and friends of Mr. Martin or Marten Williams, my deepest condolences!  It is never easy to lose a loved one much more in the manner how Mr. Williams died.  I am with the rest of the people here who are wishing that justice be served for those who committed the crime.  And hopefully justice be served soon.

I hope and pray that this will not create division among foreigners and locals in Bohol but instead would unite all of us in curbing criminality.

a boy who came to the scene and stabbed the man for allegedly raping the girl, may be telling the truth. however, conjuring up from previous testimonies of PNP, i could only surmise that the motive behind killing of the man has got more sinister roots that run deep into his lifestyle and his previous encounters with the locals as businessman, boyfriend, etc. too much of anything has no virtue. one could be too BUOTAN, yet he/she still run the risk of being abused or manipulated, or otherwise, depending on what you mean by BUOTAN.
i still believe in the goodness of the Boholanos. we'll recover from this mess. this should be an awakening to our Bohol authorities. and we're praying that they have enough devotion to seek solution to this problem.

I am just wondering.  In the earlier post or was it in the article in Bohol Chronicle, it mentioned that the victim, Mr. Williams, hired a security guard after the attempt on his life right in his Bar (Sea or She Bar, way klaro).  Where was he when the incident happened?  And just like other posters, I also wonder why he was in Mansasa that day when I supposed he had a home in Panglao.

Also, Priscilla challenged the security guard of the Mangrove KTV Bar and Restaurant and Lodging House to produce pictures as proof that Mr. Williams indeed brought women with him when he checked in to the Lodging House. It isn't possible otherwise the security guard will be in great trouble with the Bar/Restaurant/Lodging House patrons.  It's intrusion of the privacy of the patrons.  Let us just let the investigators do their job and trust that Mr. Williams' death shall be given justice.

I hope the foreigners in our province also consider that what happened to Mr. Williams is something that embarrassed us as Boholanos/Filipinos.  This is not something about them being foreigners or us being Filipinos. It's about life and no one deserves to die in the manner that Mr. Williams died.  Peace to all!

vengeance, envy , syndicates, but most of them are plain robbery just like what happen in Boracay. An evil lurks seeing others splurge in luxury while others feel the angst against misery. oh what brought modernity!

i am going to write this on behalf of martin, I will tell you what he belived and are true facts. Martin met his wife margi (gee gee) in liverpool england, she was visiting her sister who is married over here. Martin and gee married and had a child who is british. after many holidays to the alona beach area martin decided to sell everything here and move to his fabulous house he built with his new family. his wife never wanted to go at the time as she had not yet got her british visa. They had only been there a few weeks the marraige wasnt going well all she wanted was to return to england and apply for her british visa which is what she done, but when she came back to england on her own (with the baby) she got refused and retuned to martin with her tail between her legs. Martin believed if she had of got it he would never of seen her again. but martin knew after she done this that she only ever used him and sadly he knew she never ever loved him, that was the reason there marriage ended. He was then in his eyes a single man and dated a few females, but so what, he was not commited to anyone he certainly never needed to rape anyone. After the shooting he put up a reward to find out who was behind it all and it came to light and true facts are his estranged wife offered money to a bar maid to poison him. The rape charges are only off people who were offered money for ther statments the ones who say he raped them are friends of Margie his wife, other females who refused the bribes told martin they were approached by the local police to say he raped them and were all offered money for the statments. His estranged wife had a uncle who was in the police and another family member was a local govenor. Martin was on the path to getting his marriage annulled on the grounds his wife only ever married him to become british, if that had of happened she would then of had no claim to his ten million passo house or buisiness, In her eyes he had to die before this happened. Martin truly believed his wife was behind everthing that happened to him and i know most other people believe this to.  The day after his death she moved straight into his house, martin would turn in his grave knowing she got what she wanted. his wish ,he told us,.  was that if onyone succeeded in killing him he would want his house bulldozed down and the land contaminated. She couldnt get her visa so she wanted his house, business and money,. This whole situation makes me angry and the way the pathetic law is over ther she will proply get away with this. I pray to god there will be justice. I hope martin can rest in peace. We will miss you so much matey, you were loved by many. x x x .

The mystery that sorounds Martin's death was done by a professional killers, it is understood that a certain group planned and executed the crime. The root can
not be fully established since the local police has not yet handed out the result of their inquiry, ato nalang huwaton ang pnp o nbi sa ilang final report.

What have I been saying the whole time!

Steve emailed me the same email today and called me and he was also here around Xmas time I had met with him and Martin at Dunkin.

The entire family circle and freindship circle of Martin from England has been nothing but thankfull and gracious for my straight up thoughts and work on this case.

I have with me the afidavit signed by Martin and afidavits signed by other attempted victims to go up against Martin in a wrong and dishonest way.

I would like to know why was this case see easy to solve being it invilved an X governors relative when other crimes go unsolved for days, weeks, months years to never being solved.

I am proud of my freind Steve for being a real man with real balls to tellit to you the way i have.

Even what he told me matched exactly to one of martins afidavits because I had met Steve at the mall with Martin on that exact day and time when of the liar girls the one he mentioned had said that was one of the times she was allegedly raped.

I also have the name of the tourist police who is doing the dirty work allegedly.

Kudos to you Bloke!

By the way I have read the dummy copy of the post newspapers copy for tommorow's release I was specifically told not to post the picture of the victim but the Post did it.

there is a combo story and my column and possibly the editorial will be about Martin.

Martin knew he had a trusted Atty in Lim. He always thanked me for everything in my help and now that he is dead I am still here as a freind.

Steve I will email you in a second I have some news that should make you guys happy in England.

Ian the brother of Martin has been emailing me also and his neice, as no one else over here wants to divulge any information you are right-O about some of the laws over here.

Email you soon! :)

I worked with martin and got to know him quite well , but not as much as my brother Steve ,with whom he built a good friendship. I just want to say that we were told exactly what was going on and also know about the  shooting incident . What Steve has written is the truth behind this awful case and it should be taken seriously , i admire him for being so open and truthful.
This is a very very sad thing to have of happened and at the end of the day Martin was a dad, a husband and a friend but most of all he was someones son .
All these terrible accusations are obviously made by people who probably are part of the group involved with or know more about this terrible murder , how do these people sleep at night , i would say have some respect for Martin and his family, and think about what you post on here but it is probably a word that they would never understand.
It is obvious who is behind this awful murder it should not be brushed aside the person guilty behind the whole thing must be punished.
Our condolences are with Martins parents and children and all his family.

Truth is always in the best interest of everyone. Everyone loses if justice is not served.

May those who know Martin and also have direct knowledge of this crime step out of their anonymity in this forum and execute statements that can be used in court.

This case stands a better chance of being solved than the earlier ones. For one, the suspects are in custody. They are minors and cannot be prosecuted as adults. But if they were indeed part of a conspiracy, if this were a premeditated murder, and these minors were just hired hands, their statements would be as valuable in court as any adults'. Corroborating evidence would just be what is needed to pin down whoever is/are indeed responsible.

Precy, we are behind you in your bid to expose the truth. Justice for Martin is justice for all.

Is it greed, hate or jealousy? that this guy must die? The truth is that foreigners have no rights here. They can`t owned properties without marriage, they have to pay for their stay even though they`re married.
A Filipino citizen could build the biggest house in Germany or make the biggest business in town, they could stay lifetime without paying a single cent. They get all the rights, what the foreigners don`t have here in the Philippines. Is it not unfair? I know what Iam talking about .

Suspects in Williams' Murder Arrested
published by the Bohol Chronicle

In its manhunt operations police arrested on Thursday two youngsters involved in the brutal killing of British national Martin Williams (aka Martin Hawthorne) who was found dead Tuesday morning in Boloc-boloc Spring, barangay Mansasa, this city.

The City Police confirmed they arrested one Christian Gulle, 22 years old, and his female teenage companion, 19-year old Irene Borja, both residents of barangay Mansasa.

Operatives found an identification card of Gulle at the crime scene which gave them a lead to arrest the male assailant who was at his parents’ house Thursday morning. Investigators said Gulle admitted to stabbing Williams 14 times after the victim allegedly tried to rape and hurt his teenage companion.

Gulle confessed that he met Williams Monday night at Bojol Grill where both shared food and drinks.

Later that night, at around 10 p.m., Williams purportedly invited Gulle and Borja to continue their drinking spree at Boloc-boloc Spring, just about a hundred meters from the Bohol Mangrove KTV Bar and Lodging house where the British man was checked in.

According to Gulle, he was a few meters away from Williams and Borja whom he believed to have been bathing at the spring when he heard the latter shout. Upon rushing to the scene, Gulle said he saw Borja lying on the ground and in pain. He said he tried to help the girl get up but Williams allegedly started shouting at him which he could not understand.

Gulle admitted “things happened so fast” and when he took his knife to stab Williams several times, he did not stop as he was scared that the heavily-built foreigner would get back at him.

Gulle provided policemen the identity of his alleged cohort (Borja) who sought refuge in the house of a brother-in-law in a remote barangay in Sierra Bullones.

She was arrested by elements of the Sierra Bullones Police Thursday afternoon and was later turned over to the Tagbilaran Police who launched a full investigation regarding the suspect.

Williams, 43, had been wearing just sandals, shorts and t-shirts and was dead for several hours when his body was discovered, according to Dr. John Paul Bernaldez of the city health office.

I know what Iam talking about .

i don't think this is true and fair. i live here in a foreign country too and work my ass off just as hard as anyone who tries to make a living in a strange land. everyone who legally lives in a foreign country, Filipino or not, is paying their dues to the government where they live, whether they are making a house or establishing a business.

and i don't know why your statement has any relevance to this topic.
