Again you take potshots. High horse ? I believe you have not really seen one yet so I'll let you off the hook on that one. IF anything, your comments have grown more and more condescending. Maybe you should rethink and actually socialize more , maybe you'll see what real people's concerns are.  Lonely ? you can draw your own conclusions. If anything, people who seem to think they're the end all , be all of knowledge are the most lonely. So, you can be alone in your citadel of geopolitical authority while I go to dinner and plant swap with my plant buddies, and be the normal, average, human being that I am  ;)

what’s so bad about a high horse?  you will let me off the hook on that one?  whew!  no greater love hath she.  it’s just too bad that you perceive my comments as becoming more and more condescending.  (my apologies.)   to think that i believed (so I was wrong then, sorry) that you were the condescending one when you called another race “kagwang”.

thanks for your suggestion that i should rethink and socialize some more.  that’s another rushed conclusion of yours, thinking that people with more inclusive knowledge of things other than those that concern their daily lives are not socializing and thus could not see what “real people’s concerns are”.  (btw, what kind of people are not real?)  oh,  sorry for using your word “lonely”.  (“you must be lonely in the minority”, was how you put it in an earlier post.)

as for socialization, too bad i have more than i could bear.  i’m now in the thick of preparations for a dog show as publicity committee member.  but last night was an interesting dinner over indian fare with the chief justice (the host), a fellow filipino (a tennis player with a masteral degree in physics), and an american couple (a lady lawyer and a banker).  the latter was a very interesting couple who asked my husband and me how we met.  and when i asked them how they met, all hell broke loose.  you bet i learned some more of what “real people’s concerns are”.

if anything, “people who seem to think they’re the end all, be all of knowledge” and end up admitting that they’re not interested in learning more but have made conclusions based on these meager knowledge are not only lonely, they’re pathetic.

talk to your plants; they listen.  (i do.)  they make us “normal, average human beings”.  but then you already are, judging from your own declarations and your avatar.  if that is you in your avatar, i must say you’re personable.  and that’s a conclusion based only on the picture that i see.  i hope you will also let me off the hook on this one.

Yes, lots of Americans are ill informed...so are a lot of Filipinos. But come to think about it, if everyone was concerned about things that are useless in their daily lives, do you honestly think there could be progress ?  Your wealth of knowledge about geopolitics won't buy a mansion but maybe a wealth of knowledge in stocks, commodities or real estate will. You can't blame people for pursuing what is important to them...and FYI, I don't think most Americans think they're the center of the world. Just like how most Filipinos think that everything from the US is better, a lot of Americans think that if its from Europe, its better...so on and so forth.

fine.  everything is a matter of style, so to speak.  (i won’t call your roses “kagwangs” or useless because i have a meager knowledge of roses, though i’m interested in giving myself a chance to learn.)

we got into this discussion in the first place because of your conclusion about a region and its “kagwangs” for which you eventually admitted you have meager knowledge about nor interested to learn more about.  sure, my knowledge of geopolitics won’t buy me a mansion (not interested; couldn’t maintain it), but neither would your lack of it buy you one.

whoever is blaming anyone here for pursuing what is important to them?  i only wanted to clear up some misperceptions with the little firsthand knowledge that i have.  and yes, we both know that most americans don’t think they’re the center of the world.  to believe otherwise is another form of misperception.

fyi, i doubt if most filipinos think that everything from the u.s. is better.  i, for one, believe that czech crystals, venetian lace, french perfume, portuguese corks, german cars, swiss mountains, spanish oranges, italian olives, japanese technology, british english, thai sauce, european football, filipino husbands, and american practicality are the best.

Majority = the most people....hmmm, 49% is minority,51% is majority wouldn't you say so, then it follows that if there's a better number of people who view that region negatively rather than positively, it follows that the previous group is a majority.

ugh.  i’m sorry but your logic escapes me here.  i wonder if it’s the sentence construction or the strange scientific process of arriving at a conclusion.

not really, because what you perceive as “potshots” are simply my answer to your claim that “i’m very lonely in that minority” for having access to another kind of information.  i only wondered what the basis of this particular claim of yours is.

anyway, if you were not super intellectually curious (you didn’t mention “cleansing of one’s stereotypes”) then you wouldn’t be posting here your ideas and conclusions about other cultures, nor would you be studying roses.  so, fine,  don’t study something that doesn’t interest you (and thus should one not make conclusions sans sufficient basis) because you’re “not wanted” there.  i take it to mean that you’re wanted in the u.s. and by the roses.

oh, i’ve been growing orchids, which i studied formally at the beginning, for the last 18 years.

meanwhile, my apologies for what you perceive as potshots.

On the upside, there are a lot of good as well, the term, " Universality of the Human Experience" . It hurts to think about but it seems that all of most of our values that we thought as ours is not exclusive to us. Warm hospitality, sense of kabayanihan, family ties... I live in a community where there is a hodge podge of colors and nationalities and where you visit friends, hospitality is as warm as any Filipino household, most of the time, even better.

we share the realization that such human values are not exclusively ours in the first place because not realizing this is opposed to the  “universality of the human experience”.

Yes, more often than not, it is worse, mind you. We share a bias of course being emotionally attached but when you look and really think of all that has happened when you were growing up, it clearly shows the bad habits and attitudes result in even worse than what is even reported in the news. Of course, money and power come into play, except in cases of extreme egregiousness like Mayor Sanchez. Otherwise, would we really hear of just 2 or 3 women they raped and killed ?

spoken like a true immigrant.  (there are of course stereotypes about your kind, but that’s not the point here and, well, i’ve always abhorred stereotypes.)

congratulations, then, for growing up amid this supposed moral squalor and coming out good somewhere else, and then considering yourself in the position to make judgments of the country where you became what you are.  be glad, too, that your relatives back home are still alive amid all the worse, mind you, that your original country is, much worse than what is reported in the news, as you say.

True, but I go to the path of least resistance. The way I figure, why bother when I am already considered a lower creature just because I'm a woman. I try to go where I can feel welcomed and not hated for reasons that I couldn't change. I am born a woman, brown and raised Catholic. If I am hated because of that, there is no point for me to force myself. The world is big enough, and there are other cultures, other peoples that can and will teach me a lot. Life is short.  ;)

I can say this much though..Persian food is pretty darn good !

in texts and in practice, women are never relegated as lower creatures anywhere there or in the religion called islam.  again, this perception is a western one.  it’s similar, but on a different angle, to the perception of other nationals that the u.s. is all about hollywood where money talks, has loose morals, and f**king comes easy between strangers.

like you, i’m a woman, brown and catholic.  i didn’t feel hated because of these.  (there were some fellow nationals though who got glares because they wore backless dresses and mini skirts in a place where all that is asked for is decency in clothes and ladies who dress in western clothes are not required to wear the abaya at all.)  so i can’t imagine why you would feel hated when you were never there.

true.  persian food is good, though i can’t understand why this came into the picture when our subject was an arab city.  iran and the united arab emirates may share the same region and religion (they’re even facing each other in the arabian gulf), but persians (i.e. iranians) and arabs are two very different races.  surely, everyone has access to this information.

you got me, I meant the minority.

Surely if they have, wouldn't this be public knowledge, spread across new networks or online ? If you have access to these reports and materials that say otherwise, good for you. You are very lonely in that minority.  ;) I am interested but I will readily admit , not beyond the news, and not beyond what I can find in google or bing.

these are available, and you would have gotten at them if only you bothered to explore more, all these years.  (that takes years, and the basis are not just current news with tilts.)  note:  the internet is not the only source.  it takes intellectual curiosity and the cleansing of one’s stereotypes to get at the truth.

by the way, just because you didn’t get to these sources doesn’t necessarily make you belong to the majority just as my access wouldn’t relegate me to the minority, as you claim.  consider statistics, for starters.  let’s grant that muslims have access to information that christians don’t bother about.  how many muslims are there?  their number alone won’t make them the minority.

meanwhile, ensconced in their own comfort of feeling like they’re the center of the world and couldn’t be bothered by other things except when such comforts are challenged, some americans (with exceptions, of course) don’t even know where kosovo is and are even wondering if filipinos are asians.  (info 1 was on american tv almost a decade ago; info 2 was on the internet lately.)

sorry to let you get off that high horse, but not knowing some things doesn’t mean you’re in the majority.  your lack of access in this respect and the bias of your conclusions based on the little access that you have may be what would make you lonely.

I guess it is quite safe then, to assume, that you've had more fortunate dealings with the people in question personally ? I sure hope so, you do defend them quite well.

i’ve lived there for quite a while and spent my time studying the region’s history and taking in the local culture, so i feel like i could say some things with some basis about how it is there really.  if i may sound like i’m defending them, then that remains an unintended consequence.  the fact is i can’t stand it when conclusions are made out of a very thin basis, most especially if it’s about a people and their culture.

for all you know the telephone operators were of another nationality.  hardly are there locals there who work in such sector.  (of the total population, only 19 percent are locals.  81 percent come from the rest of the world.)

i once vacationed in new york and felt rudely treated too in some instances.  that didn’t lead me to believe that all americans are rude.

OA is a matter of opinion, maybe the more apt term was "overboard" ? The mother herself did not see and a child could be told what story she should be telling. It would be a different story had they done a full on lip salad in public where there were other reliable witnesses , I'd say, they deserved it. Thing is, you or I will never know what type of kiss they did, or if the little girl was telling the truth. Makes me think of our judicial system, "beyond a shadow of doubt" ? In this case, because of the prevailing culture, they got what they got.

oa or overboard, my opinion, that may or may not matter, is that it’s still making some kind of judgment on a culture in relation to our own, which is just as unfair since we’re talking here of what is fair and unfair.

i believe the news item says that it’s about a mother who complained because kissing was done in public where her children were.  it doesn’t say that the child alone is the witness.  whether it was on the lips or just a peck on the cheek doesn’t really matter.  and they also have ‘beyond the shadow of a doubt’, otherwise there would have been no investigation.

holding hands in public between a man and a woman who are not married to each other is not even allowed there.  why should foreigners go there and complain when they fail to follow this, and why  do people who have never been there make their own judgments?

lastly, this ‘holy war’ as spouted only by a group or groups as your reason for not wanting to have anything to do with them is also reason enough for you to miss out the good in the majority of these people.  too bad.  where you are, you could have had all the reasons to expand your horizon.

to close, I do not condescend upon them, rather, I can own up that I really dislike them as a whole.  I do not think myself better than them but I would rather have nothing to do with them if I can help it. Its a personal preference and from what little my experience is with dealing with people from that part of the world. They always screw you over. Personally as clients for both my husband and I.

liking or disliking them of course is your choice.  It is unfortunate that by your own admission the choice you made is based on your ‘little experience’.

Furthermore, I don't think it is right when you say that their history is peppered by White colonization, the Arab world has not been colonized, if my history serves me right. I think the more appropriate term would be Catholic invasion in the Holy Wars in the time of the Crusades.

sorry, but your history didn’t serve you right.  try looking up on why there is such a country as jordan, for starters.  there was white colonization.  please take note that ‘white’ here doesn’t necessarily mean americans.

the ‘catholic invasion’ during the crusades was on the holy land, mainly palestine, and in the strict sense of the word didn’t involve the arabs but the turks, though it can be said that it can be confusing because the holy land, which was then occupied by the turks, had people of the semitic race (to which both arabs and jews belong).

Even in our dear old Philippines, we give allowances for those of a different persuasion. We excuse them from customs different from ours, and as long as they're not hurting us, you don't hear a peep.

as long as they’re not hurting us…’ so there it goes.  what hurts one society may not hurt another.  public kissing, in the case of the issue at hand, may not hurt in our dear old philippines, but it is different where the accused couple did it.  one, thus, cannot mete judgment on the other.  just because we believe we give allowances to those of different persuasions doesn’t mean others don’t.

It may not be the entire populace but I find it disturbing that if that were the majority, why don't they try to take measures to control these extremists who give all of them a bad name. Even  though I agree we should agree with respecting our host country, most countries also give courtesy to people of a different persuasion. Thus, in the US, you can wear whatever you want as long as its not offensive to others.

did you mean minority, as in ‘…if that were the minority’?  because it’s not the majority, of that you can be sure.  to conclude otherwise is like saying that all anti-abortionists in the u.s. bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors who perform abortions.  or how about concluding that there are many timothy mcveighs in oklahoma?

and they’ve been undertaking measures to control these extremists.  i don’t know what your basis is for saying that they haven’t.  fortunately for me, i’ve read up, much, because i’m very interested in geopolitics and i bother to know all sides, including their vested interests.

you can imagine the intelligence efforts they’ve made (in coordination with the worldwide intelligence network, including the u.s., naturally, and the Philippines, whose intelligence network is widely respected for its accuracy), and the number they’ve caught.  hardly does the western press fan these into blazing reports, but these are way, way more massive than catching school bullies in the u.s.

there won’t be hundreds of flights to and from the middle east daily with countless visitors and investors going in and out if those countries don’t give courtesies to people of different persuasions.  i can honestly say without batting an eyelash that they are more courteous there (with old world charms like europeans) than how it is in our own country where we could get shouted down in our own airports.

and countries and societies have different standards of what’s offensive.  so why call ‘oa’ the uae’s standard of not allowing public kissing just because it is tolerated in your own milieu?

A do agree with you that we should follow laws of our host country and yes, I may be at fault when I generalize people from there. But from my perspective, all I've seen coming from that part of the world has been bad things. Oppression of women mostly, people like Sarah Balabagan and people rallying death to the infidels.

if we take it only from the western press, it would appear that women are oppressed there.  up close and personal, we will note that we cannot find more pampered women.  try getting access to more varied sources of information and you will find out that not all that’s coming from that part of the world is bad.

sarah balabagan is real, a symbol that struck at the heart of the filipino’s (imagined) low status and imperfect bureaucratic red tape (how did she ever get out to be employed when she was a minor?) and, as usual, amplified for publicity.  an aside:  remember the guy who was at the forefront in saving her and whose face and name was all over the tri-media?  he ended up running for the senate, with sarah balabagan’s face behind him in his campaign posters.  he didn’t win.  the joke that the people will therefore vote for balabagan for senator did him in.

come on, there are many sarah balabagans in our own backyard, with fellow filipinos (and chinese, to be fair) abusing their household helpers themselves.  these don’t get the same publicity.  what I’m saying is that bad employers are everywhere, not just in the arab world.

as for ‘people rallying death to the infidel’, unless otherwise fanned into a big flame by the western press, more often than not they may as well be likened to our student activists of yore shouting ‘makibaka, huwag matakot!’

ermmm.... Isles, it was a peck on the cheek and not a lip salad like the regular show we see in our very own BQ mall between 60yo gramps and what looks like to be half naked 16 yos. pls read the article.

And yes, those "kagwangs" do make a lot of noise. Calling for the death of the infidels for every little reason and difference that they do not like. Well, if you're christian, that includes both you and me.

i did read the article before commenting on your post, lycx.  clearly, the 'peck on the cheek' thing is the defense of the accused.  it was different for the local who called the attention of the police.  it is not for us to make conclusions as to who was right because we both weren't there as witnesses.  let's leave that to the investigators who are more often than not oxford-trained.

as for the noise of your 'kagwangs', have you ever counted how many they are?  they're not the whole race.  they're just some organizations that seem noisier than they truly are because the western press amplifies it.  and the noise is not for every little reason, mind.  most of their histories are peppered with white colonization and the plunder of their resources.  they've been hurt.

maybe we should also read middle east history and not just current news from a british tabloid known for sensationalism.

how unchristian can we get when we generalize. this forum might explode if, hypothetically, someone would declare that pinays grovel at the sight of white men because their abiding ambition is to get married to them and be brought abroad.  it is a generalization, unfair and wholly wrong.  it is an affront to your dignity.

but let me repeat myself, ad nauseam.  we go to a foreign country and live with their laws, or bust.  my sympathy is with those two british nationals, but it is unchristian to condescend to a people and the laws of a sovereign country like the united arab emirates.

This is punishable by law in Germany. Bisan ikaw nagtanom sa kahoy ug imong potlon, mangayo ka ug permiso sa Forester.

the same holds true in our own country, actually.  no tree even in your own lot must be cut without denr's permit.  this particular case in guindulman could mean that a permit was granted.  why is what should be looked into.

Basin sa ilaha, normal kini. Pero sa kadaghanan siguro dili.

Take this for example

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2891166/British-couple-are-jailed-in-Dubai-for-kissing-in-public.html

British Couple jailed in Dubai for kissing in public.

Pagka OA.  IF this situation was reversed unya kining mga kagwanga i-jail for something very stupid in other western societies..kadako kaha sa ilang protesta no..pero as usual...sige lang gilugaran ning mga yati-a ni.

truly oa for us, whose social mores differ from theirs.  but as usual, we cannot judge other cultures according to our own.

di man hinoon prisohon sa atoa, pero ma-scandalize pa man tingali ta kun naay nagtukaay sa restaurant in full view of other customers.  (that's nothing in paris, of course, where i was scandalized to the max because it was a pinay nga wa gyod tawon mabugto ug tinuka sa iyang kauban nga white man, in full view of everyone in the park).

and by the way, if some noise is made if 'kining mga kagwanga' (your term for these people) i-jail for something very stupid in other western countries (western countries?  jailing kagwangs for something stupid?), the noise is often made by western mediamen who race for a scoop.  did you hear anything from these kagwangs themselves, ever?

to end this thus, it pays to always know the basic laws of a country one visits, most especially on public behavior.  it's one's safest bet.  one doesn't go abroad to impose one's values.  too bad for that british couple of public kissers.  they could have f**ked all they wanted in private.

Dili jud diay ni part sa ilang religion so unsa man intawoy tig antus ug suot ani ug ok raman diay nga wa ni sila ani. Dapat ipakita ang beauty with confidence hehehe. Init man dagway pud ning segi ug tabon oi. Hilig man ning muslim mang make up so sayang ilang make up di ipakita labi na tong murag nagtabon ug sako nga wa jud nay makita  unya ilang buhok pud di makita.

wa sila mag-antos, that's why they chose it.  mora ra nig overcoat kun sa western clothes pa, to be worn only when one goes out.  and this is light and airy.  it protects them from the heat and dust.  strangely, with this cover, mas bugnaw hinoon kay sa mag-sleeveless nga maigo directly sa adlaw.  i should know.  i own a real abaya, which i acquired for curiosity's sake.

ang una nakong tuyo for acquiring an abaya kay para panghadlok sa mga bata sa mga silingan sa subdivision sa pinas nga mag-siyagit-siyagit sa dalan at past 11 pm.  imagine unsay ilang bation kun kalit lang nga naay mosutoy nga morag lungon sa tungang gabii.  but i changed my mind kay maluthang unya ko sa ilang ginikanan labi na ug naay bata nga mahug sa kanal ug dinagan.

but i'm glad i have this abaya.  i have shed my bias against it (which was there, i must admit, because of the initial complaints of western women who judge their muslim sisters by their cover).

islander, you seem to have a deep knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes of Bohol politics

for my part, i'm a total outsider. but it doesn't prevent me from behaving as if i'm like an "insider"

our politicians are very predictable and openly making bold strokes of dirt which many of us continue to tolerate and ignore.

it seems to me every time we have an election it's a fight between evil and evil personified in our politicians' usual tactics. we may have never run out of good people, but election is apparently not their turf. i may sound pessimistic. i just have a feeling that this is gonna be the permanent face of our politics, and i am afraid i'm beginning to accept it.

i'm not really that knowledgeable, glace.  i just happen to know some people who are deep in bohol politics.  i would like to believe, though, that the mere fact that tb people talk about it is because we find its dirty underbelly hard to accept.  but then it's reassuring that we can go on with our lives inspite of it.

3.  as for the ban in belgium, it is understandable.  foreigners who immigrate to other countries must do their best to assimilate.  it doesn't mean that they must totally leave their past behind or do away with their own culture, but if they must invoke their rights (freedom of religion, labor laws, social welfare, etc.) in their host countries, they have to give up something of themselves too.  the simplest is not to stick out like a sore thumb in the midst of the local population.  (honestly, if one isn’t used to meeting someone wearing the burqa, it’s so disconcerting because it is as if one is seeing a walking coffin.  sorry.)

4.  i suppose the face veil isn’t much to ask for by a host country in the western world that must protect its own culture as it is expected to protect human rights.  and yes, there too are their security concerns.  one can never tell whether it’s a man or a woman or the president of the republic behind that face veil, at least in the west.

5.  saudi arabia and iran require women visitors from any country to wear the abaya or chador (those black, straight, shapeless, floor length women’s outer clothing and head cover).  those who don’t want to need not go to these countries.  so why shouldn’t western countries like belgium have their own rules too about attires, specially when the rules apply not to visitors who come and go but to immigrants who chose to become their citizens?

#46342
my two-cents' worth here:

1.  i've asked about the face veil from a good number of muslim women (i've been around and have gone to quite a number of countries, so to speak) who struck me as having a more sophisticated education than i had, and was told repeatedly that a face veil is a muslim woman's choice.  it was even said that nowhere in the quoran can one find a passage that requires a face veil for women.

2.  it is a choice mostly by women who happen to be muslim of arab culture or proximity to that culture (in geographic terms, those in the middle east, south asia, and some areas in north africa).  muslim women in turkey, some eastern european areas (kosovo and some countries in the caucasus, for instance) do not wear face veils.  neither are there face veils for indonesian and malaysian women or our muslim sisters in mindanao.  that doesn't make them less muslim.

one may therefore conclude that the face veil is more cultural than religious.  the term 'muslim face veil' therefore veers on the politically incorrect.  it's almost like saying 'christian necktie'.

please bear with me, glace, if i sound like a pol sci 1 teacher.  i got carried away.  this does not presume that you don’t know these things; i know you know, and chances are you even know more than i do.

my previous posts are actually mere intros to my questions for arki, who is obviously pro-aumentado and who may at least be in a position to shed some light on the following:

1.  the scuttlebutt that the esteemed outgoing governor eventually kept quiet about salcon because he was given a to-die-for amount by the company needs some truth-telling.  the money bag was reportedly brought to their residence one night.

2.  a topnotch lawyer who joined the fray, purportedly to help the plaintiffs in the case against relampagos-chatto et al, was also paid.  he was reported to have asked for the papers from the plaintiffs, and then gave these all to the other side for a certain amount.

3.  when the plaintiffs raised their case to the court of appeals after failing at the lower court level, the case was never raffled off among the justices.  it reportedly was permanently in the hands of one of these justices, who threw out the case without much of a hearing.  a lawyer brother-in-law of relampagos is a ranking officer at the court of appeals.

if all these stories were true, including rumors that both relampagos and chatto were also paid, then no one has the moral ascendancy to throw stones at each other’s glass houses.  all the campaigners in the world, tb posters most specially who seem to be everywhere in tb nowadays like some pestilence, cannot clean up the tarnished image of these political leaders even if they shred their throats and fingers to smithereens announcing how great their candidates are and how bad the opposing camps are.

but those who run for public office will always have winners and losers from among them.  fereting out the truth in all these rumors could at least let voters know who and what they are voting for, for all their worth.
#46354
the power of the legislators when it comes to the executive and judiciary branches lies in the committee on appointments.  this committee is supposed to review the appointments to top government posts made by the president, and they can approve or disapprove, in keeping with the ideal of check-and-balance.  and this is when collegial relationships between legislators are played out.  congressman1-on-the-dock whispers to congressman2 to reassign a judge or to sit on his promotion in case he dares to do something about his pending case.  will a judge risk his retirement and life's work?  i doubt.

so maybe, and i say maybe because i don't really know the truth behind all this, it would have been next to impossible to file a case against jane censoria cajes before the election period, when her father was still a sitting legislator.  more so that her father openly showed that he's the best friend of the first gentleman.

and yes, bohol's premier dirty trickster knows when to strike and to hit where it hurts most, without proof that he's behind it all.
#46355
meanwhile, glace, it's not easy for anyone to file a case against sitting legislators.  these idiots can even have a judge transferred to antartica if he so dares to mete a fair judgment against a legislator.  our politics also happens to be a game of whisperers, unfortunately.

outside of the rumored ambition of gma's eyeing the speakership of the house as a steppingstone to becoming prime minister in a possible charter change, being in congress is her best bet against hundreds of potential cases against her once she steps down as president.  that's why she's running.  what a crying shame.
#46356
it's quite obvious, glace, that the boholano politician who's the ultimate expert in the dirty tricks department casts a long shadow.  the tricks of cajes and co. are puny when it comes to mudslinging.  we can be sure everything will be quiet once the election dust settles.  this guy, who never lost an election, became disquietingly quiet on the salcon issue after riding on it, front seat, during a previous campaign.  and so suddenly.  why, arki?  i hope you at least have an idea why.

in keeping with the title of this thread, the three candidates for governor all believe that they are qualified that's why they're running.  if that doesn't answer the interrogative statement of this thread, then we can always vote for moorish, alex, and trademark, tb's own 3 stoogies.

was there ever a congressman who was arrested, bai alex, when they were still serving out their term?  and really, would this list come out if it had no basis?

as you are campaigning for edgar chatto (who happens to be my choice too) and company (some of whom are out of my list), please don't be too shrill and bitchy.  it turns potential voters off.  you'll end up getting unintended consequences, like losing voters for your candidates instead.
#46361
i'd rather have a sitting president who's single than a married one whose wife exerts too much influence in government affairs.  call to mind imelda.

(watch out for cynthia villar, in case.  as congresswoman and education committee chair, she's indirectly responsible for the proliferation of those silly, expensive private schools with fancy names, most of which belong to fellow legislators.  why?  she interferred with dep/ed standards, one of the causes for then education secretary butch abad to resign in exasperation.  and what did these schools produce?  an example is a grade 6 valedictorian who cannot even spell 'barangay'!)

and what about a president with more than one woman and additional children?  it meant extra expense for security details.

yes, our president could be single.
#46362

#46363
noynoy at least has the decency to be self-effacing, and if that is called do-nothing, then i go for do-nothings.  sometimes, national leadership, like greatness, is flung to those who least expect it.  villar wants it too much, having worked and spent for his quest of the highest post of the land in the last three years or so.  he is too acquisitive and too ambitious for his own good, and the nation's.

must we gamble our next six years on a slippery businessman who can switch from poverty to great wealth in his declarations to suit the needs of his businesses; bankrupt when he needed loans, wealthy when he eyed the presidency?  ugh.

korerek gihapon.  forgiveness has its moments.  and lest we forget, it is a virtue to begin with.  but sometimes it can perpetuate a sin, or a fault if you may, such as what we perceive about our political system.  and it's history that we allowed ferdinand and imelda to flee while in romania they shot nicolae and elena ceausescu.  why, even as a nation we tend to be forgiving and less violent.

during marcos's time, what was often said in hope was that the next generation can learn and do better.  that next generation is now, in the likes of chatto and relampagos and dan lim, who per my calculation were all students when aumentado was already a politician.  have things changed or do we have more of the same?

arang gyod hinoon kaambisyosa aning bayhana, bahalag unsang paagiha.  pa-sweet-sweet pa.  trabahante gyod hinoon kuno ni siya.  ang ako lang, lisod saligan nga ma-breath away from the presidential seat one who may have been aware that she was marrying someone who became a muslim in order to marry her.  that was her second husband tony leviste, now out on bail after spending time in prison for murder.

legarda is said to have irked the sisters of tony leviste before because her usual question when she met them was 'buhay pa ba si matanda?', referring to the jilted wife of leviste who lived in the same condominium as they did.  it looks like it wouldn't be easy to trust her kind.

if this were true, and i suspect it is because it saw print and there are names, then tagbilaran is going to the dogs.  i thought this kind of politics belonged to the dustbins of the 1960s.

a great post, this one, because the two opposing sides are shown.  di mainsulto or ma-mislead ang readers.

to have these troubles for someone so young... mao nay giingon ug kay nganong ni-enter.  kay ngano pod lagi nga gi-groom man pod sa ginikanan to follow in their footsteps.  create your own political dynasty, and you get what's coming.

this whole shenanigan smells of a political tactician who can go to the lowest of depths to destroy an enemy.  he had tried it before.  he can do it again.

bitaw, some brokenhearted people mend themselves by pigging out.  mao nga ang uban, imbis moniwang, manambok hinoon.  i was told that this is especially true for the october born.  i don't really know how true this is.

Basin kini sila, maayo gyud mamulitiko. Naa may daghang taw ingana. Dli man siguro daghan nga nabuhat nga maayo, pero maayo makipaghimamat sa ubang taw, maayo sad ug gawi nga ganahang ang masa nila. Naa bay marketable appeal....or basin kaha, daghan ug budget para sa uwan-uwan  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

sakto tuod ang tanan nimong sugyot, alycxs.  humans are so complicated, we have a myriad of nuances, including who can and cannot be bought.  come to think of it, boholanos may not only be a forgiving people, we may also be capable of giving second chances.

no time to argue na. let the people judge. time to think....think...think ug kinsa jud ang angayan padaugon. calling all TB members...kanang tinuoray jud nga members ha. let's do 3 days fasting and prayers for a peaceful and honest election! maski ako dili ka vote karon, pro gikuyawan ko!  :( :'( :'( :(

great solution, magbalans.  kita ang mo-pray, ang mag-fast ang mga tarantadong kandidato.  pwera sa mga maayo nila, hinaot untang di sila maulian human ug fasting.  mo-slim na sila, hehe.
