Delgado says His Wife Sent E-mail In Good Faith
« on: May 01, 2010, 06:06:38 AM »

Philippine Daily Inquirer

Filed Under: Inquirer Politics, Eleksyon 2010, Benigno Aquino III, Manny Villar

MANILA, Philippines—Former National Power Corp. president Guido Delgado Thursday said Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was “lying” and was “wrong” when the Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer accused his wife of starting the e-mail chain of a psychiatric report showing Aquino was “mentally unfit” to lead the country.

“I flatly deny Senator Aquino’s accusation and demand that he retract his statement and that he apologize to my wife and my family,” Delgado said in a two-page statement sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

“Senator Aquino cannot fathom the deep hurt he has caused my family because he does not have a wife or children. If he wants to hurt me, he has to hit me. He should be man enough to face me squarely and not to pick on my wife who was only going out of her way to verify the report,” Delgado added.

Delgado is a supporter of Aquino’s rival, Nacionalista Party presidential candidate Sen. Manuel Villar.

Aquino and his party said that it was Delgado’s wife, Joy, who started the e-mail chain of the first psychiatric report that cast doubts on the LP leader’s mental fitness.

Delgado said that the e-mail was sent “in confidence and good faith to Dan Songco, a close friend and Noynoy supporter.

“I have been informed that the same e-mail was forwarded to Rapa Lopa (Aquino’s cousin) to precisely verify the psychiatric report. Dan Songco informed me that he never said that it was my wife who made the report,” Delgado said.

“I would like to remind Senator Aquino again that no amount of denial and scare tactics could obfuscate from the public mind any amount of doubt the report has raised regarding Senator Aquino’s mental health. It is the duty of every voting Filipino to know the qualifications and readiness of public officials if they are fit to perform their official duties,” he said.

Delgado released the report to the media on Tuesday and admitted that he did not verify it. He claimed that the report was brought by a messenger to Villar’s volunteer office in Mandaluyong City.

Delgado said in his statement that last Tuesday, when he went public with the “unverified psychiatric report,” was his and his wife’s 25th wedding anniversary.

“She did not know what I was about to do and she was so upset and she cried because we have many friends who support Senator Aquino,” he said.

Well, if you're 50 and you don't want to get married, maybe something is wrong. Luoy ang Pilipinas.

Luoy ang Pilipinas, Grace, if the president is not mentally stable.

Does it make a man mentally unstable if he is not married at age 50, Mike?  hehehe Bitaw Mike, wa man koy gipaboran pero I am against people making accusations just to advance - if kana kon naka advance ba ni.  Di man daw gud na verify ning accusations ni Mr. Delgado and he said it's for the people/media to check the veracity of this report. Or, it's different in the political arena?

I agree with you, Grace. Uncomfortable lang ko about Noynoy. He did nothing as a senator and as a 3-term congressman sa Tarlac. He never spoke against Arroyo's long list of corruption scandals.

He never wanted to become a president of the country in the first place. In a last-minute decision, he finally gave in to the urgings of the "trapos" who just want to use him to advance their interest.

Kung maminaw ta sa mga interviews ni Noynoy, his answers are very vague and impractical.

Noynoy is merely banking on the glories of his iconic parents. Unsa may record ni Noynoy? According to Richard Gordon, Noynoy is a "do-nothing guy." Dapat unta daghan na siya ug nabuhat sa Pilipinas kay he has a lot of spare time kay wala man siyay asawa ug walay mga anak nga atimanon.

Single at 50? What has he done to his life?

That's what I thought so, too, when I heard that Noynoy was running for president.  I was hoping Roxas was the presidential bet but for some reason he gave in to noynoy.  It's kind of tough choice for the people but I pray that Philippines will have a corrupt-free new set of leaders!  Kana jud ba na ilang ibutang ang kaayohan sa Pilipinas as their motivation and primary reason for serving the nation.

Regarding Delgado, I have so much respect on this guy but it doesn't mean I agree with what he did.  I personally believe that if we accuse somebody, we better have proof.

As to the wife, Mrs. Delgado, I think didn't start the emails.  She received this email from somebody and forwarded to another person to ask how true the email was.

Ang ijahang nanay nga si COry Aquino was a plain housewife unja wa pud magplano nga modagan pagka presidente. Hehehehehe. PPoV ra ni aho. ;D

noynoy at least has the decency to be self-effacing, and if that is called do-nothing, then i go for do-nothings.  sometimes, national leadership, like greatness, is flung to those who least expect it.  villar wants it too much, having worked and spent for his quest of the highest post of the land in the last three years or so.  he is too acquisitive and too ambitious for his own good, and the nation's.

must we gamble our next six years on a slippery businessman who can switch from poverty to great wealth in his declarations to suit the needs of his businesses; bankrupt when he needed loans, wealthy when he eyed the presidency?  ugh.

as for delgado, would anyone really claim sending an email in bad faith?  if only he were not too identified with villar.

i'd rather have a sitting president who's single than a married one whose wife exerts too much influence in government affairs.  call to mind imelda.

(watch out for cynthia villar, in case.  as congresswoman and education committee chair, she's indirectly responsible for the proliferation of those silly, expensive private schools with fancy names, most of which belong to fellow legislators.  why?  she interferred with dep/ed standards, one of the causes for then education secretary butch abad to resign in exasperation.  and what did these schools produce?  an example is a grade 6 valedictorian who cannot even spell 'barangay'!)

and what about a president with more than one woman and additional children?  it meant extra expense for security details.

yes, our president could be single.

Cals, I don't think Mr. Guido Delgado is part of the family that owns the Islacom.  He has his own business, a consultancy business.

He was defending his wife which is okay since I don't think the wife, in this case, did anything malicious.  I can't say that to Mr. Delgado though who held press conference.  But I think you know this already, didn't you?  ;)  Bitaw Cals, sa youtube ra man pod to nako nakita ang presscon.
