FB Repost:
IN A NUTSHELL: Roadmap to Mass Testing

The Department of Health has been working on accrediting additional labs to increase the country's COVID-19 testing capacity. In this explainer, we discuss the roadmap to increasing our capacity for mass testing—and the challenges along the way.

MASS TESTING NEEDS INCREASED TESTING CAPACITY. There are three major components needed to enable testing:
(1) TEST KITS - needed to detect the virus by RT-PCR. Our current supply comes from imported test kits and the locally produced UP NIH kits.
(2) TESTING LABS - COVID-19 testing labs must meet biosafety level 2 standards, and have the needed equipment and supplies.
(3) PERSONNEL - personnel must have the specialized training in RT-PCR and biosafety measures for handling samples.

HOW DO WE BUILD OUR TESTING CAPACITY? DOH has laid out a 5-stage accreditation process for testing labs.
Stage 1: Self-assessment
Stage 2: Inspection
Stage 3: Personnel training
Stage 4: Proficiency testing
Stage 5: Full-scale implementation

However, there are challenges that must be addressed ASAP to fast-track accreditation and build testing capacity.

Challenge 1: There is a lack of clear central coordination and information for labs that want to set up.
Solution 1: We need clear comprehensive guidelines for labs, as well as a dedicated team that can coordinate the process nationwide and a central resource for technical guidance.

Challenge 2: Several labs around the country must be inspected by an expert team for Stage 2.
Solution 2: We need to have dedicated teams of experts who can inspect the labs and offer technical assistance for setting up.

Challenge 3: The need to train many personnel for several testing centers creates a bottleneck.
Solution 3: Training must be decentralized not just from RITM so that other fully accredited testing centers can also help train personnel.

Let's continue to call on DOH and the national government to address these challenges and speed up the accreditation of testing centers without sacrificing quality and safety! Let's continue to call for FREE, INCREASED, EXPANDED, AND DECENTRALIZED #MassTestingNowPH!

Another cockfighting aficionado from North Cotabato that attended Matina Gallera's derby tested positive for Covid-19
By Malu Cadelina Manar

KIDAPAWAN CITY (Apr 9) -- Another cockfighting aficionado from North Cotabato who attended the 6-cock derby in Davao City's Matina Gallera tested positive for Covid-19, said City Mayor Joseph Evangelista.

Evangelista said PH3989 is a 48-year old male who, along with 30 others, joined the weeklong-derby in Davao City and had been exposed to gallera owner who died later of Covid-19.

The patient, the mayor said, is now 'asymptomatic', but has to be placed inside the city's isolation facility along with members of his family for strict surveillance and monitoring.

"Isa siya sa dalawang persons under investigation natin na galing ng Matina Gallera. Asymptomatic ang dalawa including their immediate family members. But we need not to be complacent," the mayor explained in a text message.

Results of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) laboratory test of PH3989 came out just today, April 9.

Evangelista has immediately ordered an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to ensure no local transmission of the virus.  He has also ordered several establishments closed while ECQ is still in effect.   The city's mega market will be opened from 6am up to 4pm to allow disinfection in every corner of the place.

Meantime, another cockfighting aficionado was also placed inside the PUI isolation facility, although, not manifesting any flu-like symptoms.   His PCR lab test results have yet to be released by the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City, reports said.

With the addition of PH3989, the province of North Cotabato has already three (3) confimed Covid-19 cases -- two of them are cockfighting enthusiasts.

Data from the DoH Center for Health Development 12 showed the total number of Covid-19 cases in Soccsksargen Region is now at 16.  MALU CADELINA MANAR

PRWEB: Rediker Software is proud to announce the integration of its TeacherPlus Gradebook with Google Classroom. The integration now allows teachers to connect their TeacherPlus Gradebook to their Google Classrooms, eliminating the need for manual double data entry and allowing more time for teaching, communication and collaboration.

Teachers can also link Gradebook columns with Google Classwork assignments and retrieve scores from completed assignments. Additionally, the TeacherPlus Gradebook columns linked to Google Classroom classwork can be listed as coursework in the students' PlusPortal pages. This creates a more seamless online learning experience for students and teachers.

Rediker customer Mark Botelho recently reported that his school, the International School of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Africa, finds the integration the perfect solution for the TeacherPlus Gradebook and Google Classroom usage. "What we found is that TeacherPlus can, with little effort, make the necessary connection to Google Classroom. There is no need to use CSV files, nor any kind of third-party connector in order to get up and running.

"With a couple of clicks you have access to all your Google and TeacherPlus classrooms and lessons contained within," he added. "The sync is seamless and the process of syncing grades is a simple click within TeacherPlus."

Rediker President Andrew Anderlonis is extremely excited to have this partnership with Google. "Integrating Rediker's gradebook with Google Classroom was a big need we saw due to the increased use of Google Classroom in schools and the increased usage of online learning tools," he said. "This fantastic new integration helps teachers with technology by eliminating manual data entry and easing their workload in their already very busy days with students."

About Google Classroom
Classroom is a free web service, developed by Google for schools, that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. No matter what subject is taught, Google Classroom is a great tool for sharing information with students, collecting their work, and providing feedback. All teacher assignments and student work are put in one place. And just like the gradebook, with Classroom, teachers and students can sign in from any computer or mobile device.

Business and Economy / How to Buy CBD Online
April 09, 2020, 06:16:53 PM
Introducing TheCBDHaven.com, a new way to buy CBD online.

Prweb: We believe in and offer CHOICE. We offer only the best, premium CBD brands in the industry at affordable prices. We are working on adding new brands soon.

At TheCBDHaven.com, you will be able to shop by brand, product type, or CBD type.

We also believe in educating our community. Make sure to check out our very informative blog, which is updated frequently.

What is CBD?

We cover this topic in more detail in our blog, so please feel free to review here. To briefly summarize, CBD stands for Cannabidiol and it's one of over 100 known molecules that's synthesized by the cannabis plant. In order for the CBD to be legal, it has to be extracted from the hemp plant (which is a strain of cannabis plant with a THC content less than 0.3%). It is legal in all 50 States.

There are three main types of CBD on the market right now.

Full Spectrum CBD (0.3% THC)
Broad Spectrum CBD (THC Free)
CBD Isolate (THC Free)
For a more thorough explanation on the differences, check here.

You can now easily buy cbd online and try it for yourself. Our bodies respond differently, so what works for one person might not necessarily work for another. For best results, try a couple brands and a couple varieties. Start with a low dose, and slowly increase after 5 days, until you reach the desired effect. With a little time, you will be able to find what works for you.

CBD is safe, as long as you make sure you buy a quality brand. With so many CBD brands currently for sale online, and more popping up every day make sure you check their third party lab results. If a brand does not have these Certificates of Analysis easily available, avoid them.

The CBD Haven, is offering a 15% discount on your first purchase of CBD online, with the code WELCOME15.

We are currently offering FREE Standard Shipping, until end of April.

3 dokumentos una iduso, alang sa
Social Amelioration Program-DSWD

Kini maoy gibutyag ni Department of Social welfare and Development (DSWD) Social Welfare and Development Bohol Team leader Rhea Marie Tubongbanua, didto sa Kapihan sa PIA Huwebes, Abril 2.

Gov't sets emergency aid
to covid-affected families

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 3 (PIA)—With the enactment of the Bayanihan To Heal As One into  law which has provided extra powers to President Rodrigo Duterte, the government is now poised to provide an Emergency Subsidy Program to estimated 18 million low income families severely affected by the travel and work restrictions  to help contain the coronavirus disease affectation in the country.

The EMP is a package of social protection programs that help mitigate the adverse effects of the declaration to the most vulnerable sectors of the Philippine Society, explains Department of Social Welfare and Development Bohol Team leader Rhea Marie Tubongbanua at the recent Kapihan sa PIA.

The packaged includes cash, non-cash items, services comes from the government's social amelioration program that mitigate the socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 health crisis, she adde, in the radio forum that has since opted to stay in studio in line with the social distancing and keeping people off the streets.

With the program, beneficiaries from vulnerable sectors can get between P8,000 to P5,0000 for April and May, based on the prevailing regional minimum wage rates, so families who may have workers disrupted from work due to the quarantine, can still have the money to buy food, medicines and toiletries.

Integral in the implementation of the ESP is the Social Amelioration card, a form distributed to residents to be filled in by the head of family that captures the family profile which would be the mechanism for affected families to access the social amelioration program, she added.

Other than the cash aid are food and non-food items including hygiene kits and an augmentation of food packs after the LGUs have put up their disaster response initiatives.

The DSWD also packs integrated services to individuals in crisis situations to protect them from getting totaled while helping them recover, and the provision of sustainable livelihood programs for the poor and vulnerable marginalized families to ease out from their deplorable conditions.

ESP also includes livelihood assistance grants given to SLP beneficiaries to help them recover from economic losses incurred during the severe economic disruption caused by the highly infectious disease.

And true to its goals, the ESP targets families who belong to the poor and informal sector whose lives are at risk for losing their incomes during the quarantine period who may have at least, a member belonging to the vulnerable and disadvantage sector like senior citizens, persons with disability, pregnant or lactating mother, solo parents, distressed Overseas Filipino Workers who were now banned from traveling outside the country because of the COVID break-out and indigenous peoples.

Also eligible to get the assistance are members of the underprivileged sector and homeless individuals, informal economy workers like the independent self-employed small scale producers and distributor of goods like directly hired or occasional workers (laundry), subcontracted workers, homeworkers like weavers, house helpers, drivers of vehicles owned by another person, micro entrepreneurs, sarisari store operators with assets less than 100,000, family enterprise owners, below minimum wage earners especially when he is sole income-earner.

ESP also funds farmers, fisherfolks, farm workers especially those who income fall below the poverty line, no-work-no-pay workers, stranded workers who could not go home due to the community  quarantine.

Tubongbanua however explained that since the P20Billion fund for the 18 million workers would not be sufficient for all for two months, the LGUS are tasked to identify beneficiaries through the punong barangays in a barangay saturation approach, prioritizing poorer barangays.

By this, the DSWD issues Social Amelioration Cards to identified beneficiaries, the cards work as the basis of cash transfers to avoid duplication of beneficiaries. (rahchiu/PIA-7/Bohol)

DSWD says LGUS need to
Initiate first relief operations

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol April 3, (PIA)—If, by this time, you still have to receive relief goods, that is because your local government units have not started using their calamity funds to help your community-quarantined people.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its warehouse manager for Social Welfare and Development Center in Bohol, Leo Hontanosas advanced this information following a DSWD policy that they would release relief goods only after the Municipal and Barangay Local Governments have used up their funds in their relief operations.

DSWD also has relief readied which include food packs in 5 kilos of rice, 4 sardines, 4 canned goods and coffee sachets.

Speaking at the Kapihan sa PIA to clarify complaints of communities about not getting the government relief yet, Hontanosas said the LGUs must first distribute locally funded relief good in their operations as the DSWD resources are only for augmentation.

As soon as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared the country under a state of Public Medical Emergency through Proclamation 922 in an effort to respond to the threat of the coronavirus disease, he also triggered the automatic release of resources meant to handle an actual or potential public health crisis.

Part of the funds which the declaration liberates is the Calamity Fund: a fund appropriated under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) to cover aid, relief, and rehabilitation services to communities/areas affected by the health emergency and spending it covers a range of allowable disbursements that include disaster relief operations, rehabilitation and other related activities.

As to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Joint Memorandum Circular No 2013-1, series of 2013, by section 21 of the Philippine Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Act,
It mandates all local government units to provide an allocation of local disaster which is not less than 5% of the estimated revenues from regular sources for disaster preparedness and response.

A part of disaster response activities listed in the cited JMC includes provision of food subsistence to disaster victims.

Here, the DSWD points out, is a fund source that LGUS can use to put up their own disaster response operations.

Several communities however said their LGUs told them, the release would happen as soon as the LGU can determine there is a real need for the relief, considering that people still have food.

Reports said LGUs also want to spare their scant relief resource, especially when they know that the community quarantine is still going to stretch.

This too as several LGUs had done the second round of their relief operations, while others have yet to start. (rahchiu/PIA-7/Bohol)

ESP for workers
Gov't realizes temporary wage
employment in TUPAD #BKBK

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 4, (PIA)—Families whose work and incomes are affected by the stringent social distancing and community quarantine measures in fighting the spread of corona disease virus (COVID-19) can apply for a temporary wage employment as the government realizes the promise inserted in the recently passed Bayanihan To Heal As One Act or RA 11469.

Through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the government offers Emergency Subsidy Program (ESP) through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced at Disadvantaged Workers Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko Disinfection and Sanitation Project (TUPAD #BKBK).

TUPAD #BKBK is DOLE's community-based safety net program that provides temporary wage employment to the informal economy workers, such as the underemployed, self-employed and severely affected by the new work schedules and the displaced marginalized workers who have lost their livelihood or whose earnings were affected due to the community quarantine against COVID-19.

For TUPAD #BKBK, in time for this health crisis, and in consonance with the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Emergency Employment Program, the workers shall be the tasked to disinfect and sanitize their houses and houses of the qualified beneficiaries including identified dwellings and its immediate vicinity, according to the Joint Memorandum Circular governing the ESP implementation.

The work program also includes Basic Work Safety Orientation, COVID Safety measures, and possible work suits to protect workers from job-related risks.

According to DOLE, qualified beneficiaries are required to work for four hours a day for a maximum of ten days and will be paid wages equivalent to 100% of the prevailing highest minimum wage in the region.

For Bohol TUPAD BKBK workers, they would be receiving P404.00 for four hours of work a day or P4,040.00 for ten days, the payment of which shall be through money remittance service providers or direct cash pay-out.

Here, workers in private establishments whose works, face or suffer disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, like retained workers who do not get regular wages, workers whose working hours are reduced due to the implementation of Flexible Work Arrangements, and thus get lesser take home pay, or suspended workers whose work is temporarily stopped with the suspension of operations of their business establishment, can apply.

Also eligible for the temporary work are workers from the underprivileged sector whose income or combined family income falls within the poverty threshold, persons who are contracted to do work on an irregular basis, hired on a per-piece or per completed work basis, pakyaw workers and agri-sector workers.

And so, are homeworkers like crafts men, "kasambahay" who are currently not receiving any pay for they cannot report to work due to the community quarantine, drivers of pedicab, tricycle, PUJs, UVs, PUBs, Taxi, Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) and Transport Network Companies (TNC) especially if their income is dependent on the job or the below minimum earners and the only income-earner of their family.

As the program is implemented by Direct Administration of DOLE or by LGU Accredited Partners, LGUs are tasked to submit a letter of intent, work program, and summary list of beneficiaries to avail of the program, to the DOLE, who shall approve the same.

Disqualifications

For TUPAD #BKBK implementation, workers who availed of the P5,000 one-time cash assistance through the DOLE CAMP; those who are under the expanded and enhanced Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program; those who have already received cash assistance through the DSWD Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS); or rice farmers who have already received cash assistance from the DA are already disqualified.

Beneficiaries who received cash and non-cash assistance from the Local Government Unit and/or NGAs may still qualify to avail of the TUPAD #BKBK program provided that the combined amount from the LGU, other NGAs and DOLE shall not exceed the P6,000 emergency subsidy specified the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act.

Under Investigation o Persons Under Monitoring.

(rahchiu/PIA-7/Bohol)

Embassies set up 'sweeper
Flights' for stranded guests

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 8, (PIA)—Foreigners who are still in Bohol and intending to go home to their respective countries can check with their embassies to facilitate their hitching on the sweeper flights that governments are arranging to send these stranded guests home.

According to Department of Tourism Bohol desk officer Jaypee Orcullo, this April 9 and 10, the Brazilian Embassy is organizing a special sweeper flight from Cebu to Manila.

Over this, foreigners interested to catch the flight out can coordinate with the Bohol Tourism Office and the DOT Bohol so repatriation trips can be arranged from Bohol to Cebu.

Orcullo said the DOT and the BTO arranges the trips from Bohol to Cebu, which can either be by sea or air.

By April 11, as initiated by the Swedish Embassy, a sweeper flight would be leaving Panglao to Cebu and then to Manila.

For this flight, DOT Bohol said citizens from the European Union and the Nordic States can board the aircraft.

Those interested however are advised to coordinate with their respective embassies as the facilitation should be done by the embassy level, DOT said.

By April 14, the Canadian Embassy is organizing another flight from Cebu to Manila, and Canadians stranded in Bohol can coordinate with the BTO or the DOT as soon.

This April 15, the Japanese Embassy is also organizing another sweeper flight, and those stranded nationals may immediately contact the BTO through Joanne Linal at 09062401168 or the DOT through Jaypee at 09075489061.

Anytime soon the Spanish Embassy is also sending a sweeper flight, but there is no information yet as to the take-off details, DOT said.

Other foreign nationals who are also taking the chances of hitching into these flights need to contact their respective embassies so they could arrange for joiners in the sweeper flights, the DOT said.

Bohol, which has become another tourist-favorite island get-away, has hosted short and long staying expatriates, several of them too engrossed with their vacations and were overcome by the turn of events leading to the shutdown of borders, leaving them practically nowhere to run to.

With this, Bohol has organized repatriation trips, facilitating the return trips for these tourists in distress.

As the country adopts "We Heal As One," our motto is "we heal as one," Orcullo said. (rahchiu/PIA-7/Bohol)

Cooperatives Help Their Members and Respective Communities in the Fight against Covid19
Press Release

We in the cooperative movement have largely heeded the call of Senator Bong Go to do our share
in helping our members as well as the communities and barangays where our entities are located. The
forms of assistance that we have been extending include among others the donation of basic commodities
such as food preparation and distribution of food packs and hygienic aids; logistics support for
health/medical workers through the provision of PPEs; and engaging in sanitation/disinfecting work
within coop offices as well as barangays.
Many of our cooperatives, federations and affiliated entities throughout the country began
performing these deeds and more as early as the first few days of implementation of the lockdown--and
will continue to provide relief, support and whatever help they can give. This stresses the timely call of
Senator Bong Go "to utilize the cooperatives' Community Development Fund (CDF) in order to contribute
to the government's effortsto fight the disease and help communities mitigate the socio-economic impact
of the crisis".
The invaluable tasks that cooperatives are doing during these trying times is also in congruence
with the 7th Principle of Cooperatives: Concern for the Community. The cooperatives will continue
mobilizing the movement in order to assist LGUs and provide help to frontliners, health workers and
marginalized communities affected by this pandemic. And our cooperators have, like soldiers called to
battle, courageously heeded this call. We at the Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC) and the cooperative
movement as a whole, stand for strength, courage and compassion in performing what we consider our
mandate.
While the world is waiting, as well as praying, for a solution to COVID 19, the endless task of
providing service to both members and communities continues among cooperatives, both here and
globally. The manner with which our cooperators perform their tasks – i.e. with courage and compassion
- also reflects the message that President Ariel Guarco of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) has
conveyed relative to COVID 19: "In crisis situations, cooperatives have always been in the forefront with
lucidity, audacity and determination. Today, thanks to their inherent solidarity, unity and pioneering spirit,
they continue to generate powerful ideas for the benefit of all. Let us continue to communicate, to share
relevant information, to appeal to the responsibility and sensibility of the entire cooperative movement."
[The Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC) and the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), are both
members of ICA, together with other major entities in the Philippine cooperative sector.]
The list of cooperatives providing different kinds of relief work, goods and services will continue
to grow; geared towards easing the burden of their members, the communities they serve, the frontliners
in the health/med and defense sectors and the different LGUs. The more they mobilize their resources
and engage in concerted efforts, the more they manifest that they have that show of force, as they heed
the call for them to perform tasks (or more precisely, multi-tasks) for the sake of their members, the
frontliners and the communities they serve. This is very much akin to Senator Bong Go's "Call on
Cooperatives: Help Communities Respond to Covid-19".

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. and CHICAGO, April 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer recorded its largest one-month drop in sentiment during March. The barometer dipped 47 points to a reading of 121, as concerns over the impact of the global pandemic on the agricultural economy weighed heavily on farmers' minds. The Ag Economy Barometer is based on a mid-month survey of 400 U.S. agricultural producers and was conducted from March 16-20, 2020 as the coronavirus crisis escalated in the U.S. and around the world.

Both the Index of Current Conditions and Index of Future Expectations also recorded their largest one-month declines. Farmer sentiment regarding current conditions fell 43 points to a reading of 111 and future expectations fell 49 points to a reading of 126. Collectively, this month's decline in the barometer and its sub-indices pushed the index down to levels last seen in September 2019, when weak commodity prices and an unresolved trade dispute left many farmers concerned over their financial futures.

"First and foremost, the U.S. farmers we surveyed said they were concerned about how the coronavirus will impact their farms in 2020 leaving little doubt that it was the leading driver for this month's drop in sentiment," said James Mintert, the barometer's principal investigator and director of Purdue University's Center for Commercial Agriculture. "While originally it was thought that the coronavirus effect would be limited to trade with China, now it appears producers are bracing for challenging financial times leading into the 2020 planting season."

More Americans Express Concern About Losing Their Job, Latest HPSI Results Show
COVID-19 Concerns Lead to Steep Drop in Housing Sentiment

NEWS PROVIDED BY

Fannie Mae
Apr 07, 2020, 08:30 ET

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fannie Mae (OTCQB: FNMA) Home Purchase Sentiment Index (HPSI) fell 11.7 points to 80.8 in March, its lowest reading since December 2016. Five of the six HPSI components decreased month over month, including the percentage of Americans expressing concern about losing their job within the next 12 months. Consumers also reported that homebuying and home-selling conditions have worsened and took a more pessimistic view of home price growth. Year over year, the HPSI is down 9.0 points.

"In March, the HPSI dropped to its lowest level since December 2016, with Americans reporting greater concern about their job security than at any point in the last six years," said Doug Duncan, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist. "Attitudes about the current home-selling environment deteriorated markedly, falling to their lowest level since January 2017. A survey record one-month drop in optimism about the direction of the economy appears to have weakened consumers' views of both the current home-selling and homebuying environment, though the latter is likely buffered in part by low mortgage rates. When asked why it's a bad time to buy or sell a home, approximately 7% of consumers offered COVID-19 as an unprompted response, one of the highest percentages of non-standard answers in the survey's history. We expect these developments to weigh heavily on housing activity during the spring/summer homebuying season."

"A Piece of Blarney Stone" 10 ways to empower your communication

The Blarney Stone is a historical stone, or actually part of the Blarney Castle in Ireland where it was believed that kissing the stone can grant you the gift of gab. Yeah, it seems strange in this day and age, but who are we to question tradition? It's not like I'm saying that Santa Claus doesn't exist (OOPS!).

There is so much to know about conversation that anyone, even I, could ever realize. You can go though watching talk shows; radio programs; clubs dedicated to public speaking; ordinary conversations; certain rules still apply when it comes to interaction through words. It may sound tedious, I know, but even though it's your mouth that's doing the work, your brain works twice as hard to churn out a lot of things you know. So what better way to start learning to be an effective communication is to know the very person closest to you: yourself.

1. What you know.
Education is all about learning the basics, but to be an effective speaker is to practice what you've learned. My stint as guest at every Toastmasters' meeting I go to taught me that we all have our limitations, but that doesn't mean we can't learn to keep up and share what we know.

2. Listening.
It's just as important as asking questions. Sometimes listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be a little bit confident with ourselves and to say the things we believe in with conviction.

3. Humility
We all make mistakes, and sometimes we tend to slur our words, stutter, and probably mispronounce certain words even though we know what it means, but rarely use it only to impress listeners. So in a group, don't be afraid to ask if you're saying the right word properly and if they're unsure about it then make a joke out of it. I promise you it'll make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as well.

4. Eye Contact
There's a lot to say when it comes to directing your attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It's important that you keep your focus when talking to a large group in a meeting or a gathering, even though he or she may be gorgeous.

5. Kidding around
A little bit of humor can do wonders to lift the tension, or worse boredom when making your speech. That way, you'll get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they'll feel that you're just as approachable, and as human to those who listen.

6. Be like the rest of them
Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You'll get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what people make them as they are.

7. Me, Myself, and I
Admit it, there are times you sing to yourself in the shower. I know I do! Listening to the sound of your own voice while you practice your speech in front of a mirror can help correct the stress areas of your pitch. And while you're at it you can spruce up as well.

8. With a smile
A smile says it all much like eye contact. There's no point on grimacing or frowning in a meeting or a gathering, unless it's a wake. You can better express what you're saying when you smile.

9. A Role Model
There must be at least one or two people in your life you have listened to when they're at a public gathering or maybe at church. Sure they read their lines, but taking a mental note of how they emphasize what they say can help you once you take center stage.

10. Preparation
Make the best out of preparation rather than just scribbling notes and often in a hurried panic. Some people like to write things down on index cards, while other resort to being a little more silly as they look at their notes written on the palm of their hand (not for clammy hands, please). Just be comfortable with what you know since you enjoy your work.

And that about wraps it up. These suggestions are rather amateurish in edgewise, but I've learned to empower myself when it comes to public or private speaking and it never hurts to be with people to listen how they make conversations and meetings far more enjoyable as well as educational.

How To Tips / 10 Questions You Should Ask Yourself
April 08, 2020, 06:55:27 AM
https://my.wirenine.com/aff.php?aff=143
What Really Makes You Tick?" 10 questions you should ask to yourself: a preparation to self-improvement

Be all you can be, but it's not always in the Army. I often see myself as somewhat contented with my life the way things are, but of course it's hard to think of anything else when where are real issues to be discussed.

Still I aspire for something deeper and more meaningful.

So we're all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn't even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks... or can they?

1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.

Find something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.

2. Should I really change?
Today's generation has taken another level of redefining 'self', or at least that's what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?

If history has taught us one thing, it's the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn't appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.

3. What's the bright side in all of this?
With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it's a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!

4. Am I comfortable with what I'm doing?
There's always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn't take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we'll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.

5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you'll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.

6. Am I happy at where I am today?
It's an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!

7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe I don't have an answer to that, but that doesn't mean I can't try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.

8. How much could I have?
I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it's more on how badly you really need it. I'd like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?

9. What motivates me?
What motivates you? It's an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It's not like you can't have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that's it. Just try it piece by piece.

10. What Really Makes You Tick?
So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it's something that you really want.

"Life With Woody" 10 inspirational quotes than can improve yourself

It might take a little coffee or probably a few rounds of beer or any other booze you could get your hands on when it comes to relaxing after a hard day's work. Well, yeah I'm guilty about that one as well, unless I'm caught dead wearing a lampshade over my head after a few rounds of vodka... half-naked! Okay, bad example and I apologize to everyone reading this after getting nightmares about me in that state of drunken stupor.

Just don't ask how it happened, please.

But what's really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? I mean, the new age thing like Zen or yoga is one of the good things and it actually works. Is there room for the intellectual side of people who can actually smell the roses-in-a-can while on the move? It kind of had me thinking that there really must be something in this 'mind-over-matter' thing.

Humor is indeed the best medicine there is whenever you are. I mean anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard. Despite of what's been happening, and to those who has gone though the ordeal, it's better to just laugh while facing the troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision. One of my favorite celebrities of all time may have to be Woody Allen. Now this is one guy who gives you the in-your-face bluntness that he pulls out with gusto, even without even trying. You can talk just about anything with a man, and he's bound to mock the subject and you'll end up laughing rather than being upset about it.

Woody Allen has this to say:

1. "Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons." It sounds good to me, I mean the practicality of all things does involve money but it doesn't have to take an arm and a leg to get it.

2. "I believe there is something out there watching us. Unfortunately, it's the government." 'Nuff said.

3. "There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?" This happens to be one of the classic ones. I mean the issue about life's little problems isn't all that bad, until 'he' shows up.

Sure, relationships can get complicated, or does have its complications that probably any author about relationships is bound to discover it soon. We follow what our heart desires, unless you're talking about the heart as in the heart that pump blood throughout your body.

4. "Love is the answer, but while you're waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty interesting questions." And if you want more, just keep on asking!

5. "A fast word about oral contraception. I asked a girl to go to bed with me, she said 'no'." It sounds, 'practical', I think.

And when it comes to everyday life, he really knows how to make the best out of every possible scenario, and it doesn't involve a lawsuit if he strikes a nerve.

6. "Basically my wife was immature. I'd be at home in the bath and she'd come in and sink my boats." I never had a boat in my bathtub before. Just staring at it while soaking in hot water makes me seasick already.

7. "I am not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens." If it rains, it pours.

8. "I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose." It could get worse when you're guzzling on beer... or mouthwash, and it happened to me once!

9. "If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans." At least he doesn't smite us with lightning, and I'm thankful for that.

And despite of what may happen to all of us in the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years, I guess we all have to see things in a different kind of light and not just perspective. I can't seem to imagine life without any piece of wisdom that could guide us. Whether we're religious or not, it takes more courage to accept your fears and learn how to deal with them is all that matters when it comes to even just getting along.

And to sum things up, here is the last nugget of wisdom to go by... however, whenever, and wherever we may be.

10. "The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don't have."

Ciao!

Benarnews.org - Malaysia will grant a six-month delay on most loan payments to ease economic suffering caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the Central Bank said Tuesday, as officials in neighboring countries took aggressive measures to mitigate the pandemic's expected financial impact.

In Indonesia, Southeast Asia's biggest economy, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said the government was preparing assistance packages to help cushion the negative effect of COVID-19.

"The automatic moratorium is applicable to loans and financing which are not in arrears exceeding 90 days," Malaysia's central bank, Bank Negara, said in a letter to bank CEOs and heads of the country's financial institutions.

The delay in repayment does not apply to credit card balances, the bank said. The new measures, to take effect from April 1, would assist borrowers experiencing financial constraints, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it said.

"Banking institutions should provide individuals and SME borrowers with adequate information on how the suspended loan ... will be treated during the moratorium period," Bank Negara said.

More than 18,200 people have died and at least 407,000 others have been infected worldwide, according to the latest data compiled by disease experts at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

With 106 new cases and one more death reported Tuesday, for a total of 1,624 infections and 15 deaths, Malaysia remained the country with the third-highest caseload in Asia, behind China and South Korea.

Health ministry officials said almost 1,000 of Malaysia's total cases were connected to a gathering at a mosque near Kuala Lumpur last month. About 16,000 people from more than two dozen countries joined the four-day event organized by the India-headquartered Tablighi Jamaat missionary movement.

At least eight of Malaysia's coronavirus fatalities were linked to the religious gathering, health ministry officials said.

Benarnews.org - Rubber-glove producers in Malaysia urged the government Wednesday to exempt them from an extended nationwide lockdown, warning of "a chronic shortage" of the product as they struggle with reduced manpower amid surging worldwide demand from hospitals battling the coronavirus.

The Malaysian Rubber Gloves Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) – the world's largest maker of medical gloves – made the appeal as Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that his government was extending the coronavirus lockdown until mid-April.

"It is the demand from the rest of the world that is going to be very challenging as there is the MCO, whereby rubber glove manufacturers are allowed to operate with just 50% of its original work force," the group said, using the acronym for the Movement Control Order, which had an initial cutoff point on March 31, but was extended until April 14.

"This will mean only half of the normal quantity of gloves to be produced and it could really cause a chronic shortage to the world," the association said.

Malaysia's rubber gloves makers had previously complained that the pandemic had also led to shutdowns of manufacturers of carton boxes, which made it difficult for MARGMA members to ship their products.

Earlier in the day, the nation's health authorities had confirmed 172 new cases of COVID-19 infections, bringing the Malaysian total to 1,796, with 17 deaths. The Muslim-majority nation remained the country with the third-highest caseload in Asia, behind China and South Korea.

The urgent need for more disposable gloves was underscored Tuesday when the United States lifted an order it imposed in September 2019 on Malaysian gloves maker WRP Asia Pacific Sdn. Berhad, which had faced allegations that its production involved forced-labor conditions.

Customs authorities blocked those products at the same time that clothes produced by an apparel manufacturer in China's Xinjiang region were suppressed from reaching the U.S. market.

To halt the COVID-19 transmission by preventing direct human contact, Prime Minister Muhyiddin said in a live televised address that he would prolong the nation's lockdown until April 14.

"The trend of new positive COVID-19 cases is still happening, and the trend is expected to continue for some time until it starts to decline," he said. "I was briefed by the National Security Council that we can see a higher number of new cases if we don't act quickly."

Benarnews.org - Two Southeast Asian countries are reporting coronavirus infections in the thousands, after Thailand crossed the 1,000 mark and Malaysia surpassed 2,000 on Thursday.

Elsewhere, the Indonesian president called on G20 member-states to lead efforts to combat COVID-19, while in Bangladesh, the most powerful industry group representing owners of garment factories agreed to close most of the plants during a two-week period.

The government has declared the next two weeks as a special national holiday during a countrywide shutdown that began Thursday, but is urging Bangladeshis to stay at home and avoid large gatherings amid the public health crisis stemming from the viral outbreak.

In Malaysia, members of the royal staff were among those affected by the coronavirus, leading the king and queen to quarantine for 14 days, officials said.

"The National Palace would like to inform that seven of its staff have been tested positive for COVID19. They are currently being treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and health authorities are now working on tracing the cause of infection," the palace said in a statement.

COVID-19 tests on the king, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and the queen, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah, were negative, according to the palace.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and members of his cabinet decided they would donate two months of their salaries to a national COVID-19 relief fund.

"This is to show the government's commitment in assisting those who truly are affected by the virus," the prime minister's office said in a statement.

The government would also institute a two-week lockdown in two locations in Johor, beginning Friday, after the state recorded 83 positive coronavirus cases, Malaysian Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced.

The lockdown is to end on April 9 and will involve 3,570 people from 650 families. No one will be allowed to enter or leave the two areas and all businesses must be closed.

"During the lockdown, the welfare department will supply enough basic necessities to all households. The authorities will set up a medical base in the two areas and police and the military will be on duty to ensure the order is followed," Ismail said.

On Thursday, Malaysia saw its total number of COVID-19 cases jump by 235 to 2,031 and the death toll increase by four to 23 from the previous day, according to government figures.

Three of those who died had attended the Tablighi Jamaat missionary movement mass gathering at a mosque outside of Kuala Lumpur in late February. The gathering has been linked to hundreds of infections in Malaysia and other countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, according to reports.

Worldwide, more than 23,500 people have died and at least 521,000 have been infected, according to the latest data compiled by disease experts at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

Benarnews.org - China, once the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, is moving to polish up its battered image by scrambling to donate medical equipment and other resources to countries reeling from the COVID-19 outbreak.

Countries in South and Southeast Asia are receiving from Beijing huge shipments of medical equipment, personal protective gear and test kits, as well as medical advice on how to treat victims of the contagious and deadly virus, officials said.

In Malaysia – where coronavirus cases now top 2,000 – health authorities held a teleconference this week with experts from China to discuss how to rein in the infection rate, which shot up in recent weeks, said Noor Hisham Abdullah, director-general of the Ministry of Health.

"We were looking into learning new things to help us fight COVID-19 ... There are new medicines from China...," he told reporters, adding that some of the drugs may not yet be approved for use in Malaysia and their side effects still needed to be studied.

China had already supplied Malaysia with protective gear, hand sanitizers and other materials for the fight against the virus, he said.

Beijing even offered to send doctors to Malaysia, Noor Hisham said, "but, thank God, so far we have enough doctors."

'We will reciprocate their kindness'

Aside from Malaysia, Beijing in recent days has sent countries such as the Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand large shipments of aid packages, including donated N95 face masks, medical masks, goggles, protective suits, kits for COVID-19 testing, and other paraphernalia, according to officials from their governments.

Analysts have coined a name for the outreach: 'mask diplomacy.'

Some argue that Beijing was on a damage-control drive after coming under criticism for covering up the crisis in its early stages when the virus emerged in the central city of Wuhan last November. China was also faulted for not giving the world early enough warning.

"Among its serious errors at the outset of the outbreak in Wuhan was its failure to communicate," the Council on Foreign Relations, a New York-based think-tank, said in a report this week. "Local authorities withheld information about the virus from the public and the central government and silenced doctors who spoke out."

According to Rommel Banlaoi, a Philippine expert on China, Beijing, through its outreach to its neighbors during the coronavirus outbreak, is sending them aid "to continuously build its image as a benign and responsible major power."

"China also wants to refute Western criticism of its strong approach to deal with the pandemic. Now that China is recovering from the harsh effects of the pandemic, it wants to tell the world that China can offer useful lessons from its recent experience," Banlaoi, who heads the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, a local think-tank, told BenarNews.

Bernarnews.org - Authorities in Indonesia and Malaysia are investigating to determine how many of their citizens may have been infected as part of a new of COVID-19 cluster emerging from a mass Muslim event in New Delhi.

More than 350 people who were removed from a religious center where the event took place in mid-March have been hospitalized, and at least 10 attendees have died after being infected with the coronavirus disease, according to an Agence France-Presse report. The Press Trust of India said around 8,000 people took part in the event.

Indonesians and Malaysians reportedly were among those attending the event hosted by the same Muslim missionary organization, Tablighi Jamaat, whose gathering in Malaysia in late February has been linked to hundreds of coronavirus cases in more than half a dozen countries.

"According to information we have, there are 1,456 Indonesian Tablighi members overseas, 731 of whom are in India," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The event in the Indian capital began on March 13, days before Delhi's chief minister banned gatherings of more than 50 people to prevent the spread of the virus, according to India Today. Hundreds of people refused to leave the building and got trapped inside after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 announced a three-week nationwide lockdown, which suspended transportation and non-essential movement.

It was not immediately clear whether any Indonesians had attended the New Delhi event or were among those trapped inside the building.

In Malaysia, Health Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah was asked if his countrymen had attended the gathering in India.

"True. We are investigating," he told reporters in Putrajaya on Tuesday. "
  • bviously there is a high risk for them to attend these gatherings. So we are trying to get more information from our counterpart in India."

Bernanews.org - The World Bank on Tuesday slashed economic growth forecasts across Asia this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, predicting that Malaysia and Thailand would plunge into recession even in a best-case scenario.

In a worst-case scenario, Indonesia and the Philippines would join the two other Southeast Asian nations in economic contractions, the Washington-based bank said in its "East Asia and Pacific Economic Update," which warned that negative economic growth could push more people in the region into the poverty bracket.

"Developing economies in East Asia and the Pacific now face the prospect of a global financial shock and recession," the report said. "Several economies are expected to contract in 2020, which will lead to an increase in the poverty rate."

The World Bank sharply revised its GDP growth projection for Malaysia this year, from 4.5 to -0.1 percent and for Thailand from 2.9 to -3 percent. The last time Malaysia's economy contracted was in 2009. It posted growth of 4.3 percent last year, while Thailand grew 2.4 percent.

Thailand, which has declared a state of emergency to give the government new powers to deal with the virus crisis, has closed its borders to almost all foreigners. The Buddhist-majority country, which welcomed 39 million tourists last year, reported one death and 127 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing its tally of infections to 1,651 with 10 fatalities.

Malaysia, which reported six deaths and 140 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, said its restrictions on movements imposed two weeks ago had suppressed major spikes in the COVID-19 infections.

"So far, we are succeeding with no spike of cases," the nation's health minister, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said on his Twitter page. "We have not lost the war against COVID-19, neither have we won the war yet."

With its latest COVID-19 cases, Malaysia's total number of infections rose to 2,766 with 43 fatalities.

The World Bank, calling for fast and decision action to contain the spread of COVID-19 infection, said that "significant economic pain seems unavoidable in all countries and the risk of financial instability is high, especially in countries with excessive private indebtedness."

"Given the unprecedented nature of the economic shock to each country, and the fact that it is also affecting all other countries in the region and beyond, an exceptional policy response is needed," the World Bank said.

In a worst-case scenario, the bank forecast Malaysia to contract by 4.6 percent and Thailand to shrink by 5 percent this year.

Delayed containment of the coronavirus could also impact growth in Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy, the World Bank said, as it projected Jakarta's real GDP growth to weaken significantly to 2.1 percent in 2020 in a best-case scenario from 5 percent last year.

In a worst-case scenario, the bank said Indonesia might slip into recession, posting -3.5 percent growth this year.

"Indonesians with inadequate social protection who get sick or suffer income loss due to travel restrictions can fall into poverty," it said.

Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo declared a public health emergency over the pandemic on Tuesday as he rolled out an additional 405.1 trillion rupiah (U.S. $24.8 billion) to be spent on medical supplies and social safety net programs.

Jokowi said the new regulation that allows the government to increase spending to tackle the COVID-19 crisis will widen the 2020 budget deficit to as much as 5.07 percent of the gross domestic product.

Three weeks ago, Indonesia announced a 120 trillion rupiah ($8.1 billion) stimulus package, including tax breaks for companies and tax relief for manufacturing workers, to shore up confidence as the pandemic caused financial markets to tumble.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati had warned that Indonesia's economy could slow to 4.7 percent this year if the virus outbreak slows global growth.

The World Bank also significantly lowered its growth forecast for the Philippines this year from 5.9 percent to 3 percent.

It said its marked reduction in growth outlook reflects the impact of the pandemic under a scenario where the current large-scale disruption of economic activities would extend for most of the year, before a partial recovery toward the year end.

"Growth outlook for 2020 is gloomy given the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the strict community quarantine that has taken place in Luzon since March 17, 2020," the World Bank said, referring to the nation's main island, which has been under an "enhanced community quarantine."

Philippine economic growth slowed in 2019 to its weakest pace in eight years, driven by an investment contraction and export growth deceleration, according to World Bank figures. In a worst-case scenario, the bank projected the Philippines to fall into recession this year, contracting 0.5 percent

Manila's health authorities on Tuesday confirmed 10 more coronavirus deaths, bringing the nation's toll to 88, with 2,084 infections.

Globally, 42,032 people have died and more than 855,000 others have been infected, according to the latest data compiled by disease experts at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

Benarnews.org - Philippine troops killed at least three suspected militants during a firefight with more than two dozen heavily armed members of the Abu Sayyaf Group at the weekend on southern Jolo Island, the military said on Monday.

On the government side two soldiers were wounded in the clash in the jungles near Patikul town on Jolo, one of the islands that make up Sulu province, a general said.

Troops from the 6th Special Forces Battalion launched the mission against a group led by Abu Sayyaf commander Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan before midnight on Saturday, Brig. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, a local army commander, told reporters.

"The firefight lasted for 35 minutes that left several casualties from the terror group, [which] was forced to retreat," said Nafarrete, who oversaw the Special Forces operation.

Sawadjaan became leader of the Philippine branch of the Islamic State extremist group after Isnilon Hapilon was killed near the end of fighting that broke a five-month siege of southern Marawi city by pro-IS militants in 2017. Sawadjaan is believed to have masterminded deadly attacks on Jolo, including last year's twin bombings by an Indonesian couple that left 23 people dead at a local church.

Benarnews.org - The Indonesian Medical Association expressed alarm Monday after the number of doctors who died of COVID-19 jumped to 25, and urged the government to be transparent about its coronavirus data amid criticism about low testing rates.

Health authorities confirmed 218 new infections on Monday, the biggest daily rise during the pandemic in Southeast Asia's most populous nation, taking the national tally to 2,491. The national death toll rose to 209 after officials recorded 11 new coronavirus-related deaths.

"We need data that everyone can refer to and can be the basis for preventive strategies for health workers, so that we can focus on tackling COVID-19," Halik Malik, spokesman for the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) told BenarNews.

Naek L. Tobing, a well-known columnist on sexual health, was the latest physician to die of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, Halik said.

At least 18 other doctors and six dentists have died from the pneumonia-like disease, he said, as he also called on the government to be transparent about the number of health workers who had tested positive for the new coronavirus.

On Monday, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that Indonesia was not among the 10 countries hit hardest by the virus.

"Let the public be aware that Indonesia is not alone in facing this epidemic, to put things in perspective," he told reporters.

Globally, more than 73,700 people have died and almost 1,325,000 have been infected, according to the latest data compiled by disease experts at Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

Halik demanded that the government ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all health workers.

"If more health workers test positive (for COVID-19), health services will be disrupted, not to mention that they could transmit the disease to patients and their families," he said.

Indonesia has one doctor per 3,000 people, compared to about five for neighboring Malaysia, according to the World Bank.

The chairman of the COVID-19 task force, Doni Monardo, said he would ask authorities to compel some doctors and dentists to avoid practicing their professions during the coronavirus outbreak.

Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto said last week that there were more than 8,400 ventilators in 2,867 hospitals across the archipelago nation of 260 million people.

A few lessons we've all learned in past several days:

1) The United States is no longer the world's leading country.

2) China won WW3 without firing a missile -- and no one could handle it.

ALLOW LAUNDRY SHOPS TO OPEN DURING ECQ

I ask the IATF to allow the laundry shops to open for business. Clean laundry is essential to proper personal hygiene, disinfection, and decontamination. Having piles of dirty laundry at home and wearing dirty clothes for days increase the risks of getting sick.

These days, households consider laundry services essential services. In many places, the laundry shops have replaced the labandera.

Some households have only seniors, PWDs, solo parents, and living solo situations. Making them handwash their laundry is a heavy burden best left done by the more thorough cleaning of washing machines.

Many people now spend hours waiting in line at public markets, supermarkets, drugstores and groceries. They have little time left to do the laundry.

Physical distancing can be implemented inside and outside the laundry shops. Customers can be limited to four or five persons at a time inside the laundry shops. (END)

BHWs na lumalaban kontra-COVID-19 mabibigyan na rin ng SRAs

BRGY HEALTH WORKERS ON COVID-19 DUTY NOW ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL RISK ALLOWANCE

On behalf of the barangay health workers now assigned to COVID-19 contact tracing, checkpoints with health screening, and temporary community quarantine care facilities, I thank President Rodrigo Duterte for his swift response to our letter by including BHWs in the grant of the special risk allowance (SRA).

The grant of the SRA through Administrative Order No. 28 is a significant acknowledgment of the critical and urgent services the currently deployed BHWs perform in this national public health emergency.

I now urge the LGU legislatures to approve the necessary ordinances or resolutions that would implement AO 28.

To be fully realized, the LGU action is needed for the appropriation of their local funds for the SRA of barangay health workers physically reporting for COVID-19 duty at hospitals and other health care facilities and performing the roles enumerated in Section 2 of AO 28.

We also await the supplemental guidelines the DBM was directed to issue to carry out AO 28. (END)

Press Release Philippines / One EC-MCO Movement
April 06, 2020, 05:30:04 PM
𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 | 𝐀𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐋 𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎
𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗘𝗖-𝗠𝗖𝗢 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗗 𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗕, 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧
The ONE EC-MCO Movement, represented by the Power Bloc in Congress, releases its third issue of DAGITAB today. The official newsletter showcases the Warriors of Light as the backbone of the movement for their relentless efforts and steadfast service as exemplified during the power restoration operations in the course of the devastation of typhoons Tisoy and Ursula. It also introduces their various achievements and undertakings for the first quarter of 2020 and how the Power Bloc solons supported the ONE EC-MCO Movement in the pursuit of their shared goal — total rural electrification.
On the cover page, it features the faces of the linemen from different parts of the Philippines who went to visit the House of Representatives last February 17, 2020. Part of empowering the electric cooperatives (ECs) is to show appreciation for their endeavors, most specially by honoring the valiant and dedicated Warriors of Light.
The centerfold page highlights the contribution of the Warriors of Light, this generation's modern day superheroes. They put the "bayani sa bayanihan" as they risked their lives to restore power during the onslaught of typhoons Tisoy and Ursula even if it meant that they were away from their families.
The twelve-page newsletter also shows news articles about PHILRECA receiving an award internationally; the significant role of National Electrification Administration (NEA) was recognized; the inclusion of representatives from APEC and PHILRECA in the prestigious energy commission; and the push for the expansion of 4Ps to include access to electricity.
As stated by the solons, "energy is slowly transitioning from being a privilege to being a right." Access to electricity can now be considered as part of the basic needs of man. It is a basic need which should be shared to all in order to better the lives of the people.
Overall, DAGITAB shows the commendable works and struggles behind the One EC-MCO Movement and how they are unshaken by the battles that they are faced with. Without their constituents, they will not be able to achieve and overcome all of these goals.

Philippine Archive / Licensed Massage Therapists

Licensed massage therapists urged to take care of profession and industry
by Carina L Cayon
DAVAO CITY, Davao del Sur, Jan. 31, 2012 (PIA) -- An official of the Department of Health has called on the Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) in the region to practice their profession within the scope of the law to ensure public safety.

Dr. Josephine Hipolito of DOH-Manila told the newly-sworn in LMTs to take care of their profession and the industry, following a strengthened advocacy in professionalizing the massage therapy as a career and as an industry.

"Our purpose is for the public to be safe in your hands," stated Hipolito who administered the oath-taking of 40 LMTs from across Davao Region on Jan. 27 at the Grand Menseng Hotel, Davao City.

In a bid to professionalize the massage therapy industry in the country, the DOH has intensified its information and dissemination campaign on DOH Administrative Order No. 2010-0034 of 2010 stipulating the revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for the operations of massage clinics.

Under the revised IRR, Hipolito said that all massage clinics and sauna bath establishments are required to have their therapists take and pass the Licensure Examination within three years.

"So that by 2014, all massage therapists in spa establishments must be licensed," she stated.

In an interview, Ma. Corazon Mendez of DOH Region XI explained the need to regulate the industry following the proliferation of massage establishments that made massage services as front to prostitution or the offer of "extra service."

The initiative of the DOH to strongly push and campaign for professionalizing the massage industry aims to eradicate this specific concern, stated Mendez, chief of DOH-XI human resource development unit.

"DOH believes that as LMTs, you do not practice extra service," Hipolito told the new LMTs during her keynote message at the oath-taking rites.

She said that titles such as masseurs, masseuses and attendants are no longer used, as they are replaced by the term therapist which she said is more proper.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Jan. 31, 2012 (PIA) -- The five-hectare Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) – Inland Sea Ranching Project (ISRP) in Sta. Lucia Environmental Estate will ensure the sustainable development and management of fishery and aquatic resources not only in the city but also the rest of the province.

Three new facilities in the BFAR-ISRP project site was inaugurated recently by Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and City Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn in simple ceremonies for projects that would largely increase competitiveness of the aquaculture industry in Palawan.

The projects inaugurated are the P5-million Fishpond Development Project, the P1.9-million Seaweed Tissue Laboratory, and the P4.9-million Multi-Species Marine Fish Hatchery Project.

The fishpond project has a four-hectare production area which will produce good quality fingerlings of groupers, snappers, milkfish and sea bass.

The Seaweed Tissue Laboratory will produce seaweed tissue to address productivity declines of seaweed farms by rehabilitating planting materials in the laboratory through branch and spore cultures and micro-propagation. It will also preserve the genetic material of Palawan's seaweeds.

The production of the hatchery project will provide the requirements for fry and fingerlings of the fish cages and other mariculture projects in Palawan.

STATEMENT BY MAYOR INDAY SARA DUTERTE ON THE NEW MATINA GALLERA DERBY PROBE

The Davao City Mayor's Office conducted an inquiry into the derby that happened on March 7, 10, and 12, 2020 at the New Matina Gallera.

The facts uncovered are as follows:

On February 4, 2020, the Sangguniang Panlungsod Council issued a Resolution to approve the request for conduct of a derby.

On March 3, 2020, the Davao City Business Permit and Licensing Division issued the permit after all the required documents were duly submitted and complied with.

On March 8, 2020, the Guidelines No. on Covid 19 was issued. It did not prohibit the conduct of private events, however, it clearly set the direction of postponing such events.

On March 12, 2020, I instructed the Davao City Police Office to shut down all galleras upon learning about the ongoing derby.

Based on the documents presented and the timeline covering the community quarantine implemented because of Covid-19, there was no law violated.

It is, however, noted that on March 3 and 8, the Division Chief of the Business Permit and Licensing Division could have stopped the conduct of the derby and further prevented the situation from escalating, but did not vigorously act on it. It was a judgment call that was never made. This person already tendered resignation effective April 4, 2020.

This serves as a reminder for all officials in the City Government to always put forward the general welfare of the residents of the city.

I hope that this shall be a lesson that no one will ever forget, especially for those who work to serve Davao City and the Dabawenyos.

Thank you.

STATEMENT BY MAYOR SARA DUTERTE ON MALICIOUS PHOTO OF THE PRESIDENT WITH DAVAO HEALTHCARE WORKERS

This photo showing President Rodrigo Duterte in a spontaneous selfie session with some healthcare workers was taken early in March 2017 in Davao City — when he visited a private hospital after his grandchild, Stonefish, was born.

This photo has been going the rounds on social media now and presented to appear like it was recently taken. That it is malicious and presented to confuse the public and stir outrage against the President and the healthcare workers is obvious.

It tastes poorly as the country is fighting against the spread of the deadly Covid-19 infection.

The use of this photo to attack the President shows the desperation of anti-Duterte groups.

It also shows their disrespect of the sacrifices of the healthcare workers who are on the frontlines.

This kind of political attack in this time of health crisis deserves nothing but our outright rejection and condemnation.

Our common enemy is toxic and deadly enough. We should not allow our common resolve to overcome this health crisis be poisoned by the political toxicity of those who are against the government.

Thank you.

When our mulberry trees bloom
Their smell often floats
Through my window . . .
Especially in the evening and after rain.
The trees are around the street comer,
A couple of minutes away.
In the summertime, when I would run
Up to their hanging branches,
Noisy blackbirds had already picked
The dark fruit. When I stand under those trees and breathe in
Their rich smell,
Life suddenly seems to collapse around me,
A strange luxurious feeling,
As if evoked by the touch of a woman's hand. ...

I guarded leaves on the trees snow on my windowsill and water in the faucet. I'm already old like the lantern on the Charles Bridge. But sometimes I feel the threat. Tomorrow the shorthaired students of AMU will sit on the steps in front of the Artists' House -the Prague Spring begins and the doors will open-I'll gladly tum my eyes and stare at the ground. These young women are all one laughter, suddenly pulling their short skirts a little over their kneesThey are so happy. What would the author of fugue composition have said at this moment in his silk coat and silvery wig as he hurried from the riverbank to the main entrance! Perhaps he can remember Magdalena, but he surely did not see these girls. And Mozart? Mozart would have smiled, ...

And before he could go to his seat
He could have composed a dance

Poems and Poets / Cannon Fire by Jaroslav Seifert
April 05, 2020, 03:24:02 PM
When everyone kneels tomorrow you will stand in white, festively, because girls do not kneel when in white, and you'll be as quiet as a drop of water in my palm.
Only cannons will roar there on the top of the hill, one after the other.
I saw you in the garden at the battle-field, where twisted bowels stank and puddles of blood stood full of green flies_ I picked a handful of flowers for you but no one could weave as beautiful a wreath as you.
Tomorrow the praying will begin, those long prayers, and I will smile at you over your splendid wreath. I'm looking at your fingers, lightly bending tight around the jasmine bouquet, and at the red rooster with a fragrant mint leaf in his beak
And the world begins swirling. You look at me amazed, and lift all the flowers from your lap, drop everything on the floor! could have been convinced that love up there in your heart was just slumbering. ...

Everything is so sudden, the aroused blood boils too soon,
Its wounds already the festive greeting of a beauty I had not yet recognized. The devil, standing quite close, surely a trigger-happy hunter, saw my bewilderment and your shaking knees, and viciously twisted his moustache.

We suddenly step into the lighht and dark desire puts our hand over the child's mouth.
Girls with crossed arms protect their tender bodies there where nature twice kissed them. But the blood-crown under one of those kisses begins to grow slowly and happiness, that first sunny one, which we just now realize, is almost over. ...

At the construction site, a heap of bricks
The color of roses
And still hot as hands in fever,
Lay among children playing in the daytime.
In the evenings there,
Girls met their lovers.
One of them lived across the street.
And as darkness approached, following her
Was my curious need.
Even though she would sometimes Turn on the sidewalks and stick her tongue
Out at me, I could not leave her out of my sight.
My comrade told me all about
This older sister.
We hid in warm corners
Confiding in each other's secrets.
That was intoxicating. And once I had a whole wreath of fragrant berries, Coveted much more than delicious honey
In cups with dusty covers
And which made you even dizzier
Than the liquid in the little skull-labeled Bottle decorated with the word "poison" That I always carried in my pocket.
But I am singing about a nonexistent bird. I've got to smile. Hush, place your ear to the door And pay attention: Love is lurking behind the door. ...

Where or whenever I had heard
Those country bells . . .
Their beating was gentle
And it seemed to me
They whispered kindly Darling, Darling. Then when they began ever so softly With their tender chiming I knew someone was crying,
Just like Bozheva Nemcova did,
With no one to hear her. ...

Poems and Poets / End of a Story by Jaroslav Seifert

In its own roundness the girlish body shines and she opens her eyes, to see more.
One's hand glides so easily over the smooth skin.
Her head, too, is lovely and light and it seems that her kiss cannot weigh more than a fallen petal, while the unattainable lips already hurry to places that are jealously guarded as if by both loin and doves.
A few years ago I was caught in a drunken wind, and I did not heed these things.
In one town, a town that floats in the sea like an ostrich-plumed hat, a nun entered an empty church.
Almost as she entered, she was devoutly on her knees.
A dove falls like that from the roof unto wet grass when she wants to die.
Her forehead hidden under a veil moved toward the colored air as she uncovered her face.
God, I know this girl! Perhaps it was a mistake and nothing more.
But I looked at her ...

as if bound to this memory.
She got up quickly, suffering on her face, and before I could realize her shadow the veiled appearance again disappeared through the church's entrance and faced the Guido fountains.
I rushed after her to see one more time her half-closed eyes, in which lay a wound inflicted at the old well under the willow trees.
The black habit disappeared among the lanes surrounding the Academy, then I caught a glimpse of her far away as she, now near the Palazzo Foscari, walked on toward the Campo San Paolo.
I could see her white face in the crowd at the fish market.
There I lost her forever-as if she had hidden among the silvery scales of fish.
Then the clock sang the songs
Written on the plastered walls of this city, struck ten-
Punctuations of time, the roll of our blood.

Neither the marble tower in Pisa
Nor Niagara Falls
Nor the moon on a dark night
Nor a bare sword in its sheath of gold Nor that alabaster pillar standing rigid Can match the beautiful nakedness of this woman.
And no writing
Not the private words of a letter
Or the dazzling tongue of Solomon
Can be as sublime
As that one song issued
By the singer Dmo On a dreadful night. ...

Poems and Poets / Ship in Flames by Jaroslav Seifert
April 05, 2020, 03:05:59 PM
I was preparing for the night.
Whoever seeks will be expected. Whoever is waiting will be found.
I was looking for a place where I could sleep, concealed somewhere behind the evergreens where there was a bit of music left from the spring, and I could let the night fall upon me.
Flames pierced the darkness and Someone cried out: The ship is burning!
Passionate flames rose above the pale flat waters and my lover's arms lingered with need.
Under the nervous branches of willow trees shade covers the well, fog lies thick over the bottom. In daylight, I could look at my lover.
When the light moved the dark sky away
She came trembling from the well with the wet bucket.
I dared not ask if she had seen the flames.
She looked at me surprised, turned her head and, after a moment, she nodded timidly. ...

I just wanted to tell you this.
Now you can have a restless night. Ragged, scattered clouds like notebook pages hastily put together pass through the lenses of a telescope.
Each hazy cloud which has long been lumped together with the stars, makes its small circle in the blackness but you have nothing left. What could you have selected from that pattern? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just poetry. ...

I remained on this earth to be your buttercup, Mary.
They are more shy than a lamb's hoof and are afraid of every storm.
When I feel like sleeping
The grass can shut my eyes.
And to you up there, good-bye, good-bye.
Soft, soothing rain washes the light from your face.
And awakening will be beautiful tomorrow
Lying under a sky Black as a coffin. ...
