The most common COD (cause of death) for people who have diabetes is:

CVD (cardiovascular disease): IHD, CHF, MI, Pulmonary Emboli, Cerebrovascular Emboli etc.

IHD= ischemic heart disease
CHF = Chronic heart failure/Congestive heart failure
MI = Myocardial Infarct

This is the forefront now in medicine, Manay. Diabetes is so rampant in the United States.

And this simple deficiency in the body's ability to produce insulin or have receptors to react to insulin, that it leads to a host of diseases secondary to diabetes.

I will update this stats.

It is very humbling, knowing that 38% of all nobel award winners are Jews, and the owners of many Research firms are Jews or Jewish-Funded.

Jews, particularly of the Ashkenazim grouping, are prone to genetic diseases due to genetic isolation. As a group, Jews have married and bred with one another strictly, meaning relatives would marry relatives. So we see alot of genetic diseases such as Gaucher's, Tay-Sachs, etc.

In actuality, because of these genetic diseases, genetic studies have isolated broken genetic protein sequences that have led to the manifestation of diseases. This was possible due to Jewish people being so helpful in applying themselves to genetic studies; to decipher the origin of diseases being autosomal recessive, dominant; x-linked dominant or x-linked recessive.

As a body, Medicine, has benefited because of their willingness to help and volunteer in gene studies.

Let us join the choir, brothers and sisters, and sing this beautiful song..~
:)

I am the Bread of Life

I am the bread of life
He who comes to me shall not hunger
He who believes in me shall not thirst
No one can come to me
Unless the father beckons
And I will raise you up(3)
On the last day.
The bread that I will give
Is my flesh for the life of the world
And if you eat of this bread
You shall live forever(2)
Unless you eat
Of the flesh of the Son of Man
And drink of his blood,
And drink of his blood,
You shall not have life within you.
I am the resurrection, I am the life
If you believe in me
Even though you die
You shall live forever.
Yes, lord I believe
That you are the Christ
The son of God
Who has come into the world.

Hehe, they are the forefront of most research, Manay. Jews, of every color and creed, are blessed with a passion and drive in everything. Whatever they put their minds and hands on, they succeed at.

Einstein, the discoverer of E= MC^2, and a fellow of the Manhattan Project, was a Jew. Ferdinand Cohn, the founder or bacteriology, was a Jew. Lise Meitner, the discover of nuclear fission, was a Jew. Neils Bohr, pillar of atomic structure research, was a Jew. Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin, both invented the 2 forms of polio vaccines (Salk vaccine, Sabin vaccine) were both Jews. These are just few to name.

They succeed in whatever they do because, naturally, they are God's chosen people.
Their covenant with God is an Eternal Pact.

USA and Canada / Clean the birds, or kill them?
June 08, 2010, 07:23:16 AM

A biologist in Germany has stirred up a fuss with comments suggesting it makes more sense to kill heavily oiled birds from the Gulf of Mexico oil-spill disaster than to clean them.

"According to serious studies, the middle-term survival rate of oil-soaked birds is under 1 percent," Silvia Gaus, a biologist at the Wattenmeer National Park along the North Sea, was quoted as saying on Spiegel Online last month. "We, therefore, oppose cleaning birds."

Biologists on the scene who are actually involved in the cleanup tell a slightly different story: Sure, sometimes it makes sense to euthanize birds who aren’t going to make it, or leave them to die in their natural habitat. But ethically speaking, they feel a duty to try saving the birds if there’s a chance they can be saved.

For example, Rick Steiner, an Alaska marine biologist who was involved in the 1989 Exxon Valdez cleanup and is now assisting Greenpeace, said from a boat in the Gulf that he and the crew turned in a heavily oiled young egret for cleaning just today.

"It was in horrible shape," he told me via telephone, "and I doubt seriously that it will survive the day. But, you know, we caused their pain and suffering, so we owe it to them to do everything we possibly can to give them a fighting chance of survival.”

Today's numbers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other groups involved in the cleanup show that 413 oiled birds have been collected alive, and 594 dead birds have been picked up. Of all those birds, only 39 have been released back into the wild.

The raw numbers from the Gulf certainly look grim right now, and Gaus expects those numbers to get even grimmer. She argues that rescuers' efforts to counter petroleum's toxic effects - for example, by having the birds ingest charcoal solutions or Pepto Bismol - are ineffective in the long run.

Spiegel Online says that Gaus bases her view on 20 years of experience: For example, she worked on the cleanup of the 1998 Pallas oil spill into the North Sea, which killed about 13,000 birds. The report also cites comments attributed to the World Wildlife Fund during the 2002 Prestige oil-spill cleanup off the coast of Spain, to the effect that oil-covered birds "can no longer be helped" and that the organization was "very reluctant to recommend cleaning."

During the present crisis, however, the WWF has been supportive of bird-cleaning. Although it's not directly involved in oil-spill response, one of its partners on the scene is the California-based Oiled Wildlife Care Network. And one of my sources at the WWF deferred to the International Bird Rescue Research Center, which is heavily involved in the bird cleanup effort.

Mark Russell, a project manager at the IBRRC, took strong issue with Gaus' claim that cleaning is ineffective: He told me that the studies on which she based her conclusions suffered from some gaps in procedure. (For example, what were the rehabilitation practices? Did the monitoring equipment that was strapped onto the released birds contribute to their demise? If you can no longer locate a bird with a transmitter, should you always assume that the bird died?)

Other studies indicate that the survival rate for cleaned-up birds can be quite high, from 78 to 100 percent, as noted on the "Living the Scientific Life" blog. And as bad as those oily pelicans may look in the pictures from Louisiana, Russell said it's often the oiliest birds that have the highest survival rate. That's because they tend to be picked up earlier, before dehydration, hypothermia and other ills have set in.

Russell said there was once a long-running debate over whether the stress of rehabilitation does the birds more harm than good. (Research shows that it doesn't.) Even now, there's a debate over whether the resources spent on wildlife rehabilitation should be directed instead toward rebuilding the tarnished environment left behind by an oil spill. The way Russell sees it, cleaning up the animals is part and parcel of cleaning up the ecosystem. Keeping wildlife populations as healthy as possible will make the recovery easier. "This isn't a 'this-or-that' situation," Russell said.

To be sure, life-or-death decisions have to be made in the field. Steiner told me that oiled birds have a "decent chance" of surviving if they're brought in during the first 24 hours of exposure to oil. But as any veterinarian will tell you, sometimes the decent thing to do is to let the animals go ... and learn a lesson.

"There is a point at which, obviously, they are suffering needlessly, and certainly they should be euthanized," Steiner said. "Some are so far gone when you're capturing them for rehab, that the best thing is to leave them there and let them die in their natural habitat. ... It pulls at the heartstrings, but this is how people get the idea behind our oil addiction, by looking at these oil-soaked birds."

Aspirin Recommended For Heart Health For People With Diabetes At High Risk

- Taking low-dose aspirin to prevent heart disease is reasonable for adults with diabetes who are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and not at increased risk for bleeding.

- Low-dose aspirin therapy is recommended for most men over age 50 and women over 60 with diabetes who have one or more additional heart disease risk factors.

- Aspirin should not be recommended for heart disease prevention for men under 50 and women under 60 with diabetes with no major additional heart risk factors, because the potential adverse effects from gastrointestinal bleeding offset potential benefits of treatment.

Low-dose aspirin therapy is a reasonable measure to prevent a first heart attack or stroke among people with diabetes who also have a high risk for heart disease, according to a joint statement of the American College of Cardiology Foundation, the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association and published online in the journals of each organization, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Diabetes Care, and Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.

People with diabetes eligible for low-dose aspirin therapy based on this guideline include most men over age 50 and most women over age 60 who have additional risk factors.

Trials to determine whether aspirin can prevent a first heart attack or stroke in adults with diabetes have had mixed results, but overall suggest that aspirin modestly reduces the risk of cardiovascular events. More research is needed to better define the specific effects of aspirin in patients with diabetes, including gender-specific differences, according to the joint statement.

"Because the relative risk reduction appears to be modest, the panel felt that we are on strongest ground recommending aspirin for those at increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, defined by the age categories and risk factors mentioned or by a calculation of CVD risk," said Michael Pignone, M.D., lead author of the statement and chief of the general medicine division and professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

"We felt that the benefits were likely to exceed the downsides, such as gastrointestinal bleeding, for the groups mentioned. There will be some younger people with sufficient risk to warrant aspirin, but many who are not at sufficient risk."

Authors of the statement said scientific evidence to support aspirin therapy depends on the underlying CVD risk. Those with higher risk should have greater benefit, they said, but the decision to use aspirin therapy depends on the use of other treatments such as cholesterol-lowering medicines, blood pressure control and quitting smoking.

On average people with diabetes are at three times the increased risk of cardiovascular events compared with age- and sex-matched people without diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In patients with diabetes who are older than 65, 68 percent die from coronary heart disease and 16 percent from stroke. Researchers have proposed numerous mechanisms for the increased cardiovascular risk with diabetes, including increased tendency toward clot formation, platelet activity and damage to the arterial wall lining.

In 2007, the American Diabetes Association and AHA jointly recommended that aspirin therapy (75-162 mg/day) be started for both men and women above age 40 with another major risk factor, such as a family history of CVD, high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol or protein in the urine.

"The new recommendations only address primary prevention," said Craig Williams, PharmD., a co-author of the statement and associate professor of pharmacy and medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland Oregon. "All three organizations continue to strongly recommend low-dose aspirin for all patients who have previously had a heart attack or stroke, so-called secondary prevention."

The major adverse effects of aspirin therapy include intracranial bleeding, which can lead to hemorrhagic stroke, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Based on data from primary and secondary prevention trials conducted in patients with and without diabetes, low-dose aspirin appears to be associated with an absolute risk of hemorrhagic stroke of one per 10,000 people annually.

Uniformed Men.â€"It is a well known fact that women love uniformed men. The soldier figures as a hero in about every tale of fiction and it is said by good authority that a man in uniform has three more chances to marry than the man without uniform.

The correct reason is, the soldier's profession is bravery, and he is dressed and trained for that purpose, and it is that which makes him admired by ladies rather than the uniform which he wears. His profession is also that of a protector.

Insulin Pills For Diabetes Finally In Clinical Trials

After years of research and anticipation, insulin pills that could make it easier for millions of patients worldwide to manage diabetes are finally moving ahead in clinical trials and a step-closer to the medicine cabinet. That's among the topics highlighted in a two-part cover story on drug manufacturing in the current issue of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), ACS' weekly newsmagazine.

C&EN Senior Correspondent Ann Thayer notes that drug manufacturers have tried for years to develop oral insulin without much success. Insulin is a peptide hormone that people with diabetes currently take by injection to bring their blood sugar to within normal levels. But doing so requires uncomfortable, inconvenient injections that can make patients reluctant to use the drug frequently enough to adequately control their blood sugar. An oral form of insulin could help solve this problem. However, stomach acids and enzymes easily destroy insulin and other protein-based drugs. Scientists have had difficulty finding an effective way to eliminate this problem.

They've responded to this challenge by developing special coatings for insulin pills that prevent stomach acid from destroying them. Scientists also are using additives that make it easier for the intestine to absorb large molecules like insulin. After years of setbacks, signs of success may be at hand. Several insulin pills are now in various stages of clinical trials, and proof of concept may allow them to move into late-stage and more rigorous clinical testing. Only time will tell, however, whether these much-anticipated pills will make it to the market.

Discovery Of Genetic Links Among Jewish People Could Shed Light On Origins Of Various Diseases

Using sophisticated genetic analysis, scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and New York University School of Medicine have published a study indicating that Jews are a widely dispersed people with a common ancestry. Jews from different regions of the world were found to share many genetic traits that are distinct from other groups and that date back to ancient times.

The study also provides the first detailed genetic maps of the major Jewish subpopulations, a resource that can be used to study the genetic origins of disease. The findings appear in the June 3 online issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics.

"This study provides new genomic information that can benefit not only those of Jewish ancestry, but the population at large," said co-author Edward Burns, M.D., executive dean and professor of pathology and of medicine at Einstein. "By providing a comprehensive genetic fingerprint of various Jewish subpopulations, it can help us understand genetic links to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other common diseases."

To better understand the ways in which current Jewish groups are related, Dr. Burns and his colleagues, including principal investigator Harry Ostrer, M.D., professor of pediatrics, pathology and medicine at NYU, performed a genome-wide analysis of the three major groups formed by the Diasporas (the scattering of Jews into Europe, and throughout the Middle East): Eastern European Ashkenazim; Italian, Greek, and Turkish Sephardim; and Iranian, Iraqi, and Syrian Mizrahim Jews.

A total of 237 participants were recruited from Jewish communities in the metropolitan New York region, Seattle, Athens, Rome and Israel. Subjects were included only if all four grandparents came from the same Jewish community. The results were compared with a genetic analysis of 418 people from non-Jewish groups around the world.

The researchers found that Jews from the major Diaspora groups formed a distinct population cluster, albeit one that is closely related to European and Middle Eastern non-Jewish populations. Each of the Diaspora groups also formed its own cluster within the larger Jewish cluster. Further, each group demonstrated Middle-Eastern ancestry and varying degrees of mixing with surrounding populations. The genetic analysis showed that the two major groups, Middle Eastern Jews and European Jews, diverged from each other approximately 2,500 years ago.

"The study supports the idea of a Jewish people linked by a shared genetic history," said Dr. Ostrer of NYU. "Yet the admixture with European people explains why so many European and Syrian Jews have blue eyes and blond hair."

"The goal of the study was to determine a genomic baseline," said lead author Gil Atzmon, Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine and of genetics at Einstein. "With this established, we'll be able to more easily identify genes associated with complex disorders like diabetes that are determined by multiple variants across the genome. Armed with this information, we will be better positioned to treat patients."

Other investigators who participated in the study include Bernice Morrow, Ph.D., at Einstein; and Eitan Friedman, M.D., Ph.D., at Tel-Aviv University; Li Hao, Christopher Velez, Alexander Pearlman, Ph.D., and Carole Oddoux, Ph.D., at NYU; and Itsik Pe'er, Ph.D., and Pier Francesco Palamara at Columbia University.

The study, "Abraham's Children in the Genome Era: Major Jewish Diaspora Populations Comprise Distinct Genetic Clusters with Shared Middle Eastern Ancestry," was supported by the Lewis and Rachel Rudin Foundation, the Iranian-American Jewish Foundation, the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation and private donors.

Consistent And Successful Islet Isolations Offer Diabetes Hope

A team of researchers from several collaborating Baylor University research centers and from Japan's Okayama Graduate School of Medicine have found a way to more consistently isolate pancreatic islet cells from brain dead donors using ductal injection (DI), a process that immediately cools donor islet cells at the injection site. The more successful islet isolation process resulted in the three type 1-diabetes patients, who received islet cell transplants, becoming insulin independent.

Their study is published in issue 19(3) of Cell Transplantation and it is now freely available on-line at http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/cog/ct/.

"Inconsistent islet isolation is one of the important issues in clinical islet transplantation," said Dr. Shinichi Matsumoto, the research team's lead author. "Failure of donor islet isolation often results from the loss of the donor pancreas. Our simple modification of the retrieval process appears valuable for assuring greater success in islet transplantation."

Ductal injection is a procedure that modifies the islet isolation process using a cooling solution on the pancreatic islet cells derived from brain-dead donors. The cooling solution, applied at the donor's pancreatic ductal site, aids the viability of the islet cells.

The team successfully isolated islet cells in the DI group seven times while only three out of eight islet cell groups were isolated in the nonductal injection group. When islets from the DI group were transplanted into three type 1 diabetic patients, all three became insulin independent.

"DI significantly improved the quantity and quality of isolated islets and resulted in a high success rate of clinical islet transplantation," said Dr. Matsumoto.

According to the research team, a fifty percent success rate for clinical islet isolation has been standard; they were able to achieve a better than 80 percent success rate using DI.

The team reported that there were no significant demographic or clinical differences in the two patient groups receiving islet transplants, nor were there significant differences in the donated pancreata. All donor pancreata were preserved for less than six hours. Each patient received two islet preparations.

"In the DI group, the fasting blood glucose of all three patients improved after a single islet transplantation, and improved further after the second transplantation," commented Dr. Matsumoto. "None of these patients experienced subsequent hypoglycemia, and all three became insulin independent."

The team had recently shown that the DI process was successful in animal models because DI prevented tissue and cell death, suggesting that DI improved the quality and quantity of the isolated islet cells destined for transplantation.

"The number of islets isolated from donor pancreata continues to be quite variable and many times are not sufficient for clinical transplantation" said Dr. Rodolfo Alejandro, section editor for Cell Transplantation and Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. "This paper describes a novel approach to improve islet isolation yields. These are promising results that need to be confirmed in a randomized concurrent protocol".

Grifols Initiates Clinical Investigation Of New Treatment Protocol For Alzheimer's Disease

Grifols, SA, a global healthcare company focused on clinical applications of human plasma proteins, announced at its annual meeting with investors and analysts, that it will initiate a new clinical investigation of Alzheimer's Disease in January 2011 with an anticipated enrollment of over 300 patients.

The new clinical investigation involves a combined treatment of therapeutic plasmapheresis and the administration of human albumin and intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) at different doses and frequencies. Human albumin and IVIG are two of the main therapeutic plasma proteins Grifols' produces from donations of human blood plasma at dedicated donation centers across the United States.

In conjunction with the announcement of the new clinical investigation, Grifols also announced that it has entered into an exclusive design and development agreement with U.S.-based Fenwal, Inc., for the production of a prototype plasmapheresis device specifically adapted for use in Grifols' Alzheimer's research. Fenwal is expected to deliver the first prototype devices at the end of this year.

It is anticipated that the 2011 study will take place over the course of two years.

"This is a promising new area of medicine with the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for millions of people and families," said William H. Cork, the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President for Fenwal. "We are pleased to partner with Grifols in exploring this new approach to plasma-based therapy for treating Alzheimer's Disease. We believe our apheresis technology is uniquely well-suited to a range of therapeutic applications," Cork said.

In September 2009 Grifols published the interim results of a clinical trial including 42 patients from three hospital research centers in Spain and two in the United States. That study involved therapeutic plasmapheresis and the administration of human albumin. The preliminary results suggested a trend toward disease stabilization in the treatment group. The newly announced clinical investigation builds off of the results of the prior study by expanding the number of subjects and altering the treatment regimen.

Grifols' research into Alzheimer's Disease is consistent with its research and development goals of accessing the full therapeutic benefits of human blood plasma proteins for the benefit of individuals suffering with debilitating disease.

About Alzheimer's Disease

It is believed that Alzheimer's disease will reach epidemic proportions in the 21st century, with a relentless impact on the elderly population in developed countries. According to the Alzheimer's Association, the illness affects 10% of people over 65 and as many as 30% of those over 85. In the United States there are 4.5 million sufferers, and it has been calculated that this could rise to 15 million by 2050. The direct and indirect health costs of caring for patients are estimated at 85 billion euros per year in the United States alone.

Successful Phase III Clinical Trial Results Reported For NovoCure's Novel Medical Device For Treatment Of Recurrent Glioblastoma

Data from the first phase III clinical trial of NovoCure's NovoTTF device for treatment of patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GBM) were presented as a late breaking abstract during the Neuro-Oncology session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago. Study results show that NovoTTF, a novel, noninvasive, portable medical device, may be as or more effective than the best available chemotherapies for GBM, but without the toxicity usually associated with cytotoxic or targeted treatments.

The study enrolled 237 patients with recurrent, late-stage GBM, the most malignant form of primary brain cancer. Using low intensity, alternating electric fields to disrupt tumor growth, NovoTTF is the first non-drug, non-radiation, non-surgical treatment approach to show promise of clinical benefit for the treatment of brain cancer.

"We are continuously researching treatments that offer patients with recurrent glioblastoma a better quality of life while not compromising potential efficacy or patient safety," said Philip Gutin, M.D., primary investigator for the study; chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, coexecutive director of the Brain Tumor Center, and Fred Lebow chair in Neuro-Oncology of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. "Data from this non-invasive, non-chemotherapy option are encouraging, and could establish this device as another treatment option for this population."

The randomized, controlled, phase III clinical trial compared NovoTTF monotherapy with the best available chemotherapy, as determined by the study physicians in the US and Europe, in patients with recurrent, late-stage GBM. In the intent-to-treat population, patients treated with NovoTTF lived as long as those treated with the best available chemotherapy, including bevacizumab (median overall survival 6.6 months vs. 6.0 months; p=ns). Overall response rate (complete and partial responses according to investigator assessment using Macdonald Criteria) was higher for NovoTTF compared with chemotherapy (11.7% vs. 5.9%).

In a per-protocol population, which included approximately 80% of patients in the trial, who completed at least one course of treatment - either NovoTTF treatment or the best available chemotherapy - NovoTTF patients experienced an increase in median overall survival Strictly embargoed until 8:00 A.M. ET, Saturday, June 5, 2010 2 compared with the best available chemotherapy (7.8 months vs. 6.1 months; 28% increase; p<0.05). In this group, overall response rate (complete and partial responses according to investigator assessment using Macdonald Criteria) was much higher in the NovoTTF group than in the best available chemotherapy group (15.1% vs. 5.1%).

In addition, NovoTTF treatment was associated with 3-4 times fewer infections, and less hematological and gastrointestinal side effects compared to standard chemotherapy. In the NovoTTF-treated group, mild-to-moderate skin irritation (mainly rash) beneath the device electrodes was the most frequent treatment-related adverse event (less than 20% of patients). Skin irritation was generally resolved using topical corticosteroids and by periodic relocation of the device electrodes.

Scientists including researchers from the University of Florida have discovered additional evidence that generalized vitiligo - a disease that typically causes patches of white skin on the face, neck and extremities that pop star Michael Jackson may have experienced - is associated with slight variations in genes that play a role in the body's natural defenses.

Writing in yesterday's (Sunday, June 6) Nature Genetics, scientists describe how they found variations in 10 genes associated with the body's immune response in people with vitiligo. Normally an immune response is a good thing, but with vitiligo, cells that guard the body apparently become too aggressive, killing pigment-producing cells called melanocytes that give color to skin.

The findings point toward the idea that there are multiple cellular pathways that may contribute to the onset and progression of vitiligo, which makes fully understanding the disease complicated, but it also gives scientists a variety of starting points to begin developing therapies.

"Generalized vitiligo is a complex disorder that involves not just genetics, not just the environment, but a combination of factors," said Margaret "Peggy" Wallace, a professor of molecular genetics and microbiology and a member of the UF Genetics Institute and the Center for Epigenetics. "A number of different targets for therapies probably exist. As we do more research on the pathways underlying vitiligo, we can begin figuring out ways to interrupt them. This could present an opportunity to practice personalized medicine, in which therapies are tailored to people with different genetic susceptibilities."

Vitiligo affects between 1 million and 2 million people in the United States, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. It has been widely reported that the late pop star Jackson coped with the disease during his career. In addition to producing blotches of white skin, vitiligo can cause patches of hair to turn white or drain the color from the mucous membranes of the mouth. Some vitiligo patients are more likely to have other autoimmune diseases.

"Vitiligo may not get the attention it should because it is not life-threatening, but that's not much consolation for people who have the disorder," said Wayne McCormack, an associate professor of pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine and associate dean for graduate education with the College of Medicine. "It has a huge psychological effect on people. We live in a society that places value on personal appearance, and anyone who looks different, children in particular, can be made to feel very self-conscious and uncomfortable."

Researchers, led by Dr. Richard Spritz, director of the Human Medical Genetics Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, identified genes that increase the risk for vitiligo by studying the complete sets of DNA, known as genomes, of more than 1,500 people who have the disease compared with the genomes of similar people without the disease.

The latest findings point in part to the Fox family of genes, which are known to regulate gene expression and function in T cells and other molecular infection fighters in the body. In May, the research team published findings in The New England Journal of Medicine implicating several other genes involved in other autoimmune diseases in which immune cells mistake normal parts of the body for invaders, as well as a gene that may uniquely target the mistaken immune response to melanocytes in the skin.

The work was funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health with encouragement from Vitiligo Support International, the Vitiligo Society, the National Vitiligo Foundation, the American Vitiligo Research Foundation and Associazione Ricerca Informazione per la Vitiligine. Vitiligo research at UF is supported by grants from the American Vitiligo Research Foundation.

AMG 386 combined with paclitaxel gave promising antitumor results in a randomized Phase 2 trial involving 161 patients with recurrent ovarian cancer, Amgen announced at the 2010 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.

AMG 386 is a 1st-in-class investigational peptibody that has been created to block angiogenesis (process of developing new blood vessels) by inhibiting angiopoietin-1 and -2 (Ang1 and Ang2). Angiopoietins work together with the Tie2 receptor, which mediates vascular remodeling. Ang1 and Ang2 are believed to play opposing roles, and the maturation of blood vessels is thought to be controlled by their precise balance.

Beth Karlan, M.D., director of the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai's Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute and director of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's Division of Gynecologic Oncology, said:

    The reality of ovarian cancer is that 80% of women diagnosed in later stages will experience recurrence, often multiple times, and eventually die from the disease. In this study, AMG 386 showed promising antitumor activity and extended progression-free survival.

Patients were randomized (selected by chance alone) to receive paclitaxel via IV (intravenously) weekly, three weeks on and one week off, plus AMG 386 at 10 mg/kg (Arm A, n=53), AMG 386 at 3 mg/kg (Arm B, n=53), or placebo (Arm C, n=55).

Median progression-free survival (PFS), the study's primary endpoint was:

    * 7.2 months in the 10 mg/kg arm
    * 5.7 months in the 3 mg/kg arm
    * 4.6 months in the placebo group (80% CI, 0.59 - 0.98; p=0.17)

The objective response rate, per RECIST, was:

    * 37% in the 10 mg/kg arm
    * 19% in the 3 mg/kg arm
    * 27% in the placebo group

Response rate measured by serum CA-125 levels, per the guidance from the Gynecologic Cancer Intergroup (GCIG), was:

    * 71% in the 10 mg/kg arm
    * 58% in the 3 mg/kg arm
    * 28% in the placebo group

Grade 3 or higher adverse events, where the difference in incidence was more than 5% in the AMG 386 arm than the placebo arm, included:

    * Hypokalemia - Low blood potassium (Arm A/B/C percentages 12/11/4)
    * Peripheral neuropathy - nerves outside the spinal cord not working properly (10/2/4)
    * Anorexia - markedly reduced appetite (2/6/0)
    * Neutropenia - not enough neutrophils, types of white blood cells (8/9/4)
    * Dyspnea - shortness of breath, difficult or labored breathing (2/9/4)

Other grade 3 or higher adverse events of interest included thromboembolic events (arterial 2/2/0; venous 6/6/9). No grade 3 or higher hypertension was observed and there were no bowel perforations in patients treated with AMG 386. No treatment-related deaths occurred in the study.

The results of a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis were presented separately in a poster at the Annual Meeting. This analysis suggests that investigation using higher doses of AMG 386 for patients with ovarian cancer is warranted.

Dani, adds her own personal testimony.

Blessed!

~~

At a former place of employ, there was a young lady who was living in despondency but holding her own as best she could. I struck up a friendship with her, and one evening it got particularly bad. After our phone conversation with her down in the pits, I was praying for her, and was reading my Bible (shiny new one, my only Christmas present the year before I had bought for myself when all he** broke loose in my personal life).

The following conversation is paraphrased as best as I remember.

So I'm in prayer for her, and Holy Spirit says "Give her your Bible."

"Excuse me? Surely You don't mean my shiny new Bible!" (and here you thought I'm so humble and broken that I never question God ... I wish.)

"Yes, that's the one. Give it to her. You'll still have your old one."

"But ... it's my only Christmas present. I love my Bible and I can't afford to replace it!" (as if He didn't know)

"She needs something tangible to remind her that somebody loves her, and that I love her. Give it to her."

So the next day I get myself dressed and drive to work, Bible with me. Had written a little note for her in it and officially "signed it over" to her. Call her outside, and give her the Bible and tell her that I love her and that God loves her and that it was hers to keep. She break down in tears. She can't believe it. I break down in tears. I can't believe it either. And, I feel quite ashamed about my earlier reluctance.

Yes, when He speaks, we ought to listen. Always.

a beautiful testimony!

When the Holy Spirit speaks I have learned by lumps it is best to listen. Often times it can mean the difference of wandering in the desert for forty years as was demonstrated to me about 13 years ago when I paid no heed to His guidence. Last week a situation arose at work the boss has asked all of us to clean down the manufacturing floor. I happen to save soda cans and bottles so does Diane who works a couple lines away from my station. She was not there on Thursday and one of the girls who works with her told me to take her bin of soda cans as she claimed the boss had asked that her recycle bin needed to be emptied. It was late in the day and the boss had already left so there was no way of confirming anyways it sounded logical enough. There was the temptation to keep the cans for myself since I knew the other girl didn't get along well with Diane and wouldn't tell. The Holy Spirit revealed to me that the girl was lying and told me to bag up Diane's cans and keep them separate and safe. Diane had been out sick all week. At lunch I let Diane know I had kept her cans safe and returned them to her and her spirit lit up when I handed her the bag of cans. I was able to talk to her about Christ life during the lunch hour I know there was a rebound effect as others witnessed my actions in the lunchroom. Many know what went down the last week and saw me return Diane's cans. What may appear on the surface is an insignificant bag of soda cans is looked upon by others as credibility in in the witness of Christ.

Search my heart, search my mind, search my soul
Make me clean, make me new make me whole

All of my plans, all of my dreams, I lay them down before Your feet
All of my time, all that was mine, I now submit to Your design
'Cause You are the one who can make my life complete
You are the one who can give light to my feet
You are the one and only one who dared to give it all away for me

You are my strength, You are my God, you are my King
You make me laugh, You make me dance, You make me sing

Everything inside, everything outside, I give it all away
You never change, but You rearrange my heart more everyday

It’s the song of the redeemed
Rising from the African plain
It’s the song of the forgiven
Drowning out the Amazon rain
The song of Asian believers
Filled with God’s holy fire
It’s every tribe, every tongue, every nation
A love song born of a grateful choir

It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns

Let it rise above the four winds
Caught up in the heavenly sound
Let praises echo from the towers of cathedrals
To the faithful gathered underground
Of all the songs sung from the dawn of creation
Some were meant to persist
Of all the bells rung from a thousand steeples
None rings truer than this

It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
It’s all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns

And all the powers of darkness
Tremble at what they’ve just heard
‘Cause all the powers of darkness
Can’t drown out a single word

When all God’s children sing out
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
When all God’s children sing out
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
All God’s people singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
All God’s people singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns

(various and different part of the lyrics singed)

You're my Glory, You're my Glory, You're my Glory

When all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns
When all God’s children singing
Glory, glory, hallelujah
He reigns, He reigns

Our Catholic Priest reminded us how to call on the Power of God.
He does battle against the power of satan, May God rebuke him.

~~

BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS protect me from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet. From thoughts, evil snares, curses, and the powers of negativity. BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, strengthen me and empower me.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of our Savior, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul and all the Saints, 1(and powerful in the holy authority of our ministry), we confidently undertake to repulse the attacks and deceits of the devil.

       Psalm 67:   God arises; His enemies are scattered and those who hate Him flee before Him.

       As smoke is driven away, so are they driven; as wax melts before the fire, so the wicked perish at the presence of God.

V.  Behold the Cross of the Lord, flee bands of enemies.

R.  He has conquered, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the offspring of David.

V.  May thy mercy, Lord, descend upon us.

R.  As great as our hope in Thee.

AMEN.

And that is the meaning that the devil will tempt and connive all of us. But as Christians, we are told to be strengthened by the Blood of the Lamb.

I had a conversation before with fellow Catholic Collegiates at a local sojourn to Erie, Pennsylvania several years ago. And the topic that Bishop Donald Trautman, Bishop of the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, talked about was : Spiritual Warfare and putting the Faith.

It was rather eye opening. Especially he said during these most sensitive of times where the Christian Life and Defense was being attacked and criticized. And enlightening.

The Name of Jesus Christ will disperse the devil.

We are told that the Devil will call us to question our faith, call to condemn, he will come like a raging lion willing to consume the weak.
So we are told to be strong and to put on the whole armor of God so we can do battle with him.

And this is true. We are living in a time of spiritual warfare, Hubag.

~~

Read Ephesians 6,

...Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,  and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation  and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

~~

If we put ourselves close to The Power of God, the devil will scatter...

An uplifting and powerful message.

~~~
Life is tough...God knows that. He loves you ..all of us..His word tells us that. Paul sent many encouraging letters to churches that were undergoing some truly terrible persecutions. Their lives many times were at stake..and not just that, but deceivers insider their own churches. Their rights as Christians were solely limited..yet inspite of everything they went through God continued to love them. Today many of us do not face persecutions in the same way...but they are just as deadly because they can kill our spirit..our hope.
We live in a world where we are bombarded daily with temptations on all sides...things these first Christians didn't have to deal with. We have the TV, internet, magazines, radio that all promote sinful lifestyles. For some of us we cannot walk down our own streets without seeing drug houses, prostitutes..the most lost in this world. For some of us its too dangerous to walk down the street!
We hear constantly on the news about the horrors people do against each other...worse of all against children. It wounds us deeply like arrows piecing our hearts! The world in Paul's day was just as bad...history shows us that..and they also witness horrible abuses and immoral acts right in front of them too. It wounds and wears down the soul. We ache inside with grief and a urging to 'save everyone' from the wickedness in this world while at the same time struggling to not be caught in the snares of the evil one..
Let no one condemn you for God does not:
~~
Romans 8 tells us:
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:
“ For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I want to share a powerful message by Bruce, a fellow Brother in Jesus Christ.
~~~
by: Bruce

It seems to me many Christians today are not walking in power but rather are found hanging on by their fingernails, feeling like they must be the only ones who feel as they do, that they are "different". Every step is struggle for them, and no matter how much they try, they cannot seem to get the hang of walking with even a semblance of even normalcy, let alone victory. To you, dear saints, this post is dedicated to you. May my words greatly encourage you.

You feel a failure, and labor under a continual cloud of condemnation, correct? Yet, unknown yet to you, you are blessed, for unlike many who walk on in blindness, making a fair show in their flesh, quite pleased with their accomplishments in their Christian walks, you accept in yourself what they do not see as the same truth in themselves, that one cannot please God no matter how hard one seems to try, if that effort is not powered by faith but rather by a deep hidden self confidence. Outside of God doing it in you, for you, walking victoriously in Christ seems a virtual impossible dream.

We have cursed our weakness and the sins that so easily sway and beset us. We identify closely with Romans 7, where the battle rages and defeat is so often the end of our attempts at resisting satan. No matter how much we try to feed our white dg inside us, our black dog comes out like superdog. Sound familiar?

The first step out of the walk of defeat that has been our home for so long is to acknowledge it to God. Can I tell you a secret? He is not surprised or disappointed in you for your failure! He made us! He knows that because of the fall of Adam, all flesh is as grass! He knows that in our flesh, our old man, nothing good dwells. Most havce yet to learn this most paramount lesson. He knows too how we want to do good and yet do not. He knows how we want to avoid the secret sins that so easily seem to capture us, yet fall at even the smallest temptation. Listen! That heart PLEASES Him!

If you have done step one, failed miserably and know it, and come to the end of hope in yourself, with no remaining confidence that somehow, you will do better if you just try harder. You know that is a lie, that given 100 more opportunities, you will fail in all of them. Congratulations, you have gone through the hard part! You are very very close to victory, far closer than most.

This "revelation" that we need an absolute miracle to be able to truly walk as Christ desires has been hidden from the wise and from the strong among us, but to us who seem to have been satan's cannon fodder for so long, bemoaning our weakness, is it not quite easy to admit that all of our righteousness is as filthy rags in God's eyes?

Blessed are you! Why? Because our amazing God has designed a salvation that is hidden from the wise and strong and the self confident and revealed to the weak, to the addict, to the sinners, to those who long for freedom but who have NO strength.

"and to them that have no might, He increaseth strength."
2 Chronicles 14:11

May I now share with you the next step on your pathway to freedom? You long for it, you know you cannot achieve it, now you must see that God wants to give it to you freely thru faith in His goodness alone!

God asks two things of us, to yield fully to let Him work in us what we cannot, and to believe His amazing promises that he will change in us what we cannot, that he will loberate our captive souls from bondage to the flesh! In your weakness, in your defeat, in your brokenness, God asks you to do something that is totally contrary to normal thinking. He asks for you to claim as yours something you know you do not possess. He asks you to believe that He can and will do for you what you cannot. He asks you to reckon yourself dead to sin (Romans 6:6), to believe your flesh has been dealt with by the death of Christ, and then he asks that you yield yourself to Him as one alive from the dead (Romans 6:13), not as a failure trying to die to self.

If I may relate my own personal experience, I was a failure of failures. I was at the bottom of the class in failure school, LOL. No exaggeration. Bound to heavy and disgusting secret sin, God led me to read Romans 6:6 two years ago, and in an instant, the spirit opened my eyes. I finally saw it....I had never reckoned myself dead to sin, but instead tried in my effort to die to it...and failed for 36 years. Talk about a slow learner.

So what did I do? Like any crazy and totally desperate person, I decided to put God to the test, to obey what Paul asked me to do, to believe I was a new man and that I was no longer in the flesh, but in the spirit. So I spoke the words out loud, confessing my freedom that Christ died to give me, and I mena LOUD, so that the devil could hear me, my God could hear me, and most importantly, I could hear me! I suspect my heighbors could hear me too!

What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. Faith, long a dead dormant seed in my heart, sprouted again, faith in the God of all comfort, the God who wants to be a Father to me, not my judge, faith in the God who has promised to "cause me" to walk in obedience (Ezekiel 36:26), faith in the God who guaranteed that our shield of faith would quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked one, faith in the God who assures us that in EVERY temptation he will make a way of escape so that sin will NOT have dominion over, no, not for one minute longer.

My eyes were finally off of me and my abilities (ok, ok, my LACK of abilities! LOL) and back on the God who can and will "save us to the uttermost", the God who always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus. It has now been 25 months of joy and victory as my confidence in Him grows stronger every single day, as I put on the "new man" God has provided in Christ.

Please do not misunderstand, when I say God delivers us from sin, I am talking willful disobedience, not character flaws that God promises to fix as we learn to abide in Him. But when temptauion now comes, my white dog is indeed a pit bull and my black dog the Toco bell chihauhau. With that freedom, condemnation slso is gone, a thing of the past, replaced by a gentle and patient accepting Father who challenges me to go further, deeper in my trust in Him. The word of God, which before seemed dead to me, is now alive with Him, and I have fallen in love with one particular scripture that means so much to me now.

"Wherefore are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that be these, we might be partakers of the divine nature"
2 Peter 1:4

Begin to read the word and search out these promises for they are stepping stones up to heaven and to becoming changed into the image of Christ. Here is a good one to start with....

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
Galatians 2:20

I pray you are encouraged.

Romans 8:

15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Hebrews 1

Elohim; God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

Resist the devil.

So be subject to God. Resist the devil, stand firm against him, and he will flee from you.
Come close to God and He will come close to you, Recognize that you have sinned, get your soiled hands clean; realize that you have been disloyal, wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts of your spiritual adultery, As you draw near to God be deeply penitent and grieve, even weep over your disloyalty, Let your laughter be turned to grief and your mirth to dejection and heartfelt shame for your sins. Humble yourselves, feeling very insignificant in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you He will lift you up and make your lives significant, My brethren, do not speak evil about or accuse one another. He that maligns a brother or judges his brother is maligning and criticizing the Law and judging the Law. But if you judge the Law, you are not a practicer of the Law but a censor and judge of it. One only is the Lawgiver and Judge Who is able to save and to destroy, the One Who has the absolute power of life and death, But you, who are you that you presume to pass judgment on your neighbor? Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a city and spend a year there and carry on our business and make money. Yet you do not know the least thing about what may happen tomorrow What is the nature of your life? You are really but a wisp of vapor a puff of smoke, a mist that is visible for a little while and then disappears into thin air, You ought instead to say, If the Lord is willing, we shall live and we shall do this or that thing, But as it is, you boast falsely in your presumption and your self-conceit. All such boasting is wrong, So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.

James:4:7-17

7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. 12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

I am sharing a poignant message by Bruce, a fellow brother in Christ.

by: Bruce

In the book of Acts, the early Christians, filled with the spirit, were so filled with love for one another that they shared all things common. Those that had plenty had nothing left over. Those that had little saw no lack. Is it any wonder that this type of love caused the church to blaze thru the known world, "turning the world upside down" as one non- Christian exclaimed in Acts?

We would be hard pressed to see anything like that anywhere in our Western Christianity today. This commandment to love others as we love ourselves is not easy, most would agree. I will go a step further. I believe in truth it is not just hard, it is impossible, unless a man or woman gets free from their fleshly nature.

But there is the rub. How many truly want to be free of it? Many say they do, but it is the most valuable asset in our collection of pearls, self-rule, that must be sold in order to truly possess and be possessed by the one who is the pearl of great price.

With the defeat of the flesh goes our "right" to self-rule, self-will, , leaning on our own strength and determination to follow after God, which will never be enough, especially as the cost for following the Lord increases as times get bad,

In these last days, God is revealing that when we say "Lord, Lord", we use the word correctly, as someone how is not his own but as someone 100% submitted to the will of the loving master, the one who bought him with a price.This is Christianity with a cost, something almost unheard of in our Christianity today. This is also the pathway to walking "free indeed", free to love one another with our entire hearts, not just with the remnants of what is left over after we finish loving ourselves. This is the "being saved to the uttermost" that we as His body so desperately need to walk in to prove to a disbelieving world that our God truly reigns.

Make no mistake, the challenge before us is.... Can a man walk in the new nature as Christ promised? Can a man be brought to a place, a dwelling place, an abiding, where he is no longer in the flesh, but in the spirit, all day, every day? Paul told the Ephesians "Nothing profits but a new creature" but how we do not want to believe that.

Our God has promised that our shield of faith would quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. He promised that we would be given a way of escape in every temptation. He promised that sin would not have dominion over us. He told us clearly that we are not in the flesh, that we are dead to it, and we are now to yield ourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, not as those trying to die.

Why is it we hear so few hunger after this type of victory? To not know how to walk here is forgivable and understandable, as few teach this "being saved to the uttermost". But not to even hunger after truly defeating the old nature, content to simply "do the best we can" when we all know for a fact that we put far less than our best effort into becoming holy....that is the problem I see we need to address if love is to ever rule as God wills in our lives.

We can talk about love all we want, but until we talk about how to lose our old nature, it is simply nice sounding words, with no power to back them up. Jude told us to "earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints". If we are to "turn the world upside down" again as the early saints did, if we are to love as they loved one another, the answer is contending for the faith that "it is no longer I that live, but Christ who lives in me".

May God help lead us to do so.

A man like this does not deserve to have children. Children are worth more than money, more than jewels. For children are a blessing unto a man, like loins upon a loincloth.

There are people in this world who would do anything to have children (but cannot have any), and would cherish them and adore them, and not spurn them unto the street for a dollar or two.

He should be ashamed of himself. Irresponsibility.

LOL.

I had to explain to them what it was; lesson learned from that was not to cook 'exotic' filipino food when they were around. Hahaha.

My question to fellow Bible Readers:

Jesus was condemned by the Sanhedrin and the Pharisees that charged The Lord with blasphemy, why did the Sanhedrin charge Him of this? What laws and what specifically did Jesus Christ of Nazareth do to be so targeted by the Sanhedrin with charges of Blasphemy?

The second question that I ask is:

How did Jesus Christ of Nazareth respond to the charges of the Sanhedrin, and what was the response of the Sanhedrin?

happy ether, er, easter!

You are right, islander, Aristotle's original elements were: air, fire, earth, water and ether. And that goes back to my point, Theories and Man's Law are always changing.

What we once thought were 5 elements are now ever-changing. As of 2006, there are 117 elements; many of which are man-made elements such as Ununquadium, Meitnerium etc. And this number continues to grow/ and change.

Making a Difference: An Inspiration

“A wise man was taking a sunrise walk on the beach. In the distance, he caught sight of a little girl who seemed to be dancing along the waves. As he got close, he saw the little girl picking up starfish from the sand and tossing them gently back into the ocean. What are you doing? the wise man asked? The sun is coming up and the tide is going out; if I don't throw them in, they'll die. But little girl, there are miles and miles of beach with starfish all along the way, you can't possibly make a difference. The little girl bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it lovingly back into the ocean past the breaking waves. It made a difference to that one, she replied. The young girl's actions represent something special in each of us. We are all gifted with the ability to make a difference.”

A simple act of making a difference.

In making a difference you don’t need to be famous, you don’t need to be wealthy, you don’t need to be brilliant, you only have the burning desire to help. Making a difference is a journey; it is a lifetime journey, however, a journey of one thousand miles starts with a few simple steps.

We see beautiful oak trees everyday, but do we bother to remember that these great oak trees, in the beginning were tiny acorns. Will you be willing to plant an acorn? Will you be the spark that starts a bonfire?  Will you light a candle in the dark? Will you keep walking until the end of the tunnel?

In a lifetime, we always have a choice. As Victor Frankl, Author Holocaust Survivor puts in.” Man must decide for better or worse what will be the monument of his existence.”

Islander,

The study of the Holy Bible is a very sensitive issue, and requires all of us to sit down and take everything in, taking into consideration of the original Greek, Hebrew meaning of the word and then to modern translation.

A bible study fellow of mine, once said, "We need to surround ourselves with like minded peoples in studying the bible..."

When we study the bible, we have to put away differences, and hostility away. That said, I invite you, sister, to studying with me.
I admit that I have not read the bible enough, and am myself a student and still learning. Perhaps, we can learn together and share our input on a specific verses. I extend this invitation to all who are interested.

But the thing that i request is that discussion be solely on the Holy Bible.

and so is there a fine line between truth and self-packaging, between ego and preaching.  be that as it may, since you are in the position to tolerate or not and to judge what is personal and topical in this forum, i hope that you carry enough humility, in keeping with the way and the truth and the light whom you so often mention, to be able to tell the difference and to practice your forum power with magnanimity.

it goes without saying that the real test of character is how a person in power practices that power sparingly.

you deleted a certain ‘mark’ when you started your online bible study after he asked you a question, and then you went on and on with your bible quotes and interpretations as if, and i take care to say as if, the multitude should be awed and must listen and obey.

well, there’s a whale of a difference between ‘sanctimonious’ and ‘sanctity’.  as for me, if i needed a homily, i’d go to church.

i believe this forum is also about news and fun and humor.  and ideas, the kind that flows in the currents of the mind when one has the luxury of time away from one’s daily cares, ideas that cross the mind in a flash like lighting that could go in any direction across a dark sky.  this forum catches and records those.  and we are all the better for it.

Islander,

The starting of Bible Study was to study specific bible verses and answer questions as I had been receiving questions. It is an open forum, but anything else that is negative and contrary to the subject matter is to be avoided. I started the thread not for myself, but the benefit of all of us to study and read; if a person disagrees with my interpretation or with another's interpretation, they have the right and freedom to say so and share their interpretation of a specific bible verse and do so civilly. Attacking one another is and should be avoided. And I will not allow the deviation of the Study of the Holy Bible by personal remarks. I openly invite All and Everyone to The Study of the Bible.

The Grace that we have been filled with is to share the good news, to those who wish to hear. Ug dili gusto ang tawo mo discuss sa Bible, then do not discuss, no one is forcing anyone to read it or antagonize it.

As for your reminder, and point of view, I thank you for it. I appreciate it.

That said, let us move on.

Blessings and Peace,
Lorenzo

Mo express ko,

It was April 2007, I was sitting in front of a bonfire with Anne. Her hand holding mine, her thumb caressing my palms. I felt wretched.
The reasons for this is because i knew this girl since i was a freshman in college, been long friends with her. I used to meet up with her in Ford Chapel (non-denominational church chapel in college) to read poems, write notes, jokes, share feelings and thoughts of the day, release angst of post-exam furies,..

I knew that she liked me and expressed it during 2nd year, but I shrugged it off and told her that I wanted to keep our relationship simply platonic. Strictly friendship. For if I bed with her, everything would change. So i stayed course.

Many months later, she went abroad to study in Japan, then to the UK, and kept in touch by letter or by infrequent emails. On our last year of college she came back to campus and we hit it off. It was apparent to me in our dates that this girl still liked me, her eyes spoke a thousand words...i guess it was my foreign look that made her appeal; as well as her Swedish looks that I found interesting. A good heart. But the fallacy of it all is that i never really loved her.

And on that April, she professed her love for me. I cried in side because i knew that i could not give her what she expressed, i tried, but i could not. And with sad sighs, i told her....

I watched her smile, and her soft touch removed from me. And seeing her tears roll down her cheeks..it was like a knife to my heart.

Forgive me, Anne.

Forgive me...

i miss your smile.

That is something i had to learn the hard way, Anna.

For a long time, i really questioned this notion of ' the right love' kai for a while i was lost.
Too many women came and went, invested upon, some i just played with (and i admit this), too many cries, too many tears, questions of why.
So much that I was numbed to it.

And you know..in the end, it does hit you. Love does come knocking on our door.

And it is only when I actually feel 'Love' that I felt guilt for the hearts I hurt.
But i had to legitimize things, rationalize things.
I could not give them what they want nor give them what i did not have.
They wanted to be loved as they loved; per...that is the thing. I did not love them as they did.
And in my view, had i  'tried' to love them and forced myself...still it would not have happened.
So, better to cut losses and let it go, than to make them wait..and hurt them longer.

One thing i learned is this: We cannot force ourselves to think, believe or love something that we really do not.

Life's many quirks.
#31191
Addendum:

And i admit this now.
That tho i dated another woman,
my heart was in daze , because i loved another.

I admit it now.

There. The wind knows my well-hidden secret.

I remember one woman who I had the biggest crush when I was 20.
She was the subject of my many amateur poems, and letters.
She was not superior in physical beauty,
Modest beauty, I would say,
but the way she carried herself,
presented herself,
It would steal my attention undoubtedly.

I have never met a woman who was just so..Good..
She exuded goodness, passion and positivity.
Oh how i was heartbroken when i found out,
that she was being courted by another man.

I was too timid in my youth.
My angel was taken away.

She had a voice like an angel.
Like an angel...

Ah, reminiscence..
