A volunteer at Denver's Municipal Animal Shelter has been suspended and Denver police are investigating claims he was caught in sexual behavior with a dog at the shelter.

"We had an incident," Doug Kelley, director of the shelter, confirmed to CBS4's Brian Maass. "Police are investigating allegations of misconduct by a volunteer. A person has been suspended from being a volunteer."

Kelley said the incident in question occurred Saturday at the shelter and police interviewed shelter employees Monday about what happened.

Kelley declined to provide further details except to say, "There was no apparent injury to the animal."

Kelley said the volunteer could potentially face animal cruelty charges.

Several other sources familiar with the incident said a shelter employee saw the man behind the building engaging in what appeared to be sexual contact with a dog. The volunteer was reported to be at least partially naked.

World Daily News / Dishwasher earns $59,000
September 28, 2007, 01:05:10 PM
For 11 years, Pedro Zapeta, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, lived his version of the American dream in Stuart, Florida: washing dishes and living frugally to bring money back to his home country.

Two years ago, Zapeta was ready to return to Guatemala, so he carried a duffel bag filled with $59,000 -- all the cash he had scrimped and saved over the years -- to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

But when Zapeta tried to go through airport security, an officer spotted the money in the bag and called U.S. customs officials.

"They asked me how much money I had," Zapeta recalled, speaking to CNN in Spanish.

He told the customs officials $59,000. At that point, U.S. customs seized his money, setting off a two-year struggle for Zapeta to get it back.

Zapeta, who speaks no English, said he didn't know he was running afoul of U.S. law by failing to declare he was carrying more than $10,000 with him. Anyone entering or leaving the country with more than $10,000 has to fill out a one-page form declaring the money to U.S. customs.

Rape is a very real danger in our society, Mr Admin. Of all rape cases, maybe only 10% are reported. Sa giingon ni Miss Mari, tungod pud ni sa perception sa mga tawo nga sad-an ang biktima, nga imbes mo panig sa rape victim, mag blame naman hinuon. Look at what happened to that girl nga gi rape adtong US soldier sa Zamboanga, she was bombarded with criticisms...but she pursued her case, and won.

The weird thing is, rape is not even sexual in nature. It is basically driven by a man's need for control, to prove his strength, his manhood by subduing a defenseless woman.

Also, dako kaayo'g connection ang drugs aning mga rape cases. Sa Chiong case, the rapists were drug addicts. Sa Visconde massacre, the criminals were drug addicts. I saw an episode on rape victims on Magandang Gabi Bayan several years ago...one story was of a 50 year old woman, who got raped repeatedly for a period of time by her own son, everytime the latter got high with drugs. She couldn't bring herself to turn him over to the police because he was, after all, her son.

C2H4, you have an arsenal of shocking stories.

Some say you would have to be barking mad to get hitched â€" and a group of pooches certainly were in the Netherlands in February last year. At a ceremony in Hilversum, 27 doggy couples “got married”. The beasts, who paired up at a speed-dating session beforehand, were all issued with certificates.

The chances of being struck by lightning are about one in three million according to the Met Office - that is more likely than the chance of winning the jackpot in the National Lottery, which is one in 14 million.

Lightning strikes kill approximately 10 per cent of victims - about five people a year in the UK - chiefly through cardiac arrest.

Family & Parenting / Men Are Happier Than Women. Really?
September 28, 2007, 12:44:46 PM
Modern times seem to be riddled with growing gaps - the income gap, the achievement gap, the tolerance-of-celebrity-gossip gap. Now here's another one to worry about, according to today's New York Times: the growing happiness gap between men and women.

Two new research papers arrive at this conclusion. One tracked traditional happiness data by asking people how satisfied they are with their lives. It found that women, who in the early 1970s reported being slightly happier than men, are now slightly less happy.

The other analyzed time-use studies over the past four decades to determine how much time men and women spent doing things they found unpleasant. Since the 1960s, men have gradually cut back on tasks they dislike. They now work less and relax more.

Meanwhile, women have replaced housework with paid work (or not replaced as much as added onto), and as a result are spending more time doing things they don't enjoy.

The obvious explanation would seem to be the old "second shift" theory, that women just added their jobs onto their already long and laundry-filled to-do lists. But, according to the Times, this overlooks the fact that women aren't actually working more today than they were 30 or 40 years ago - they're just spending more time on paid work and less on cooking and cleaning.

Miss Mari, I would never, ever think of blaming the girl for keeping quiet. She's been through enough hell already. My post was just in response to Mr Admin's wondering why the story hasn't come out in the media yet. And I said, it's probably because no one's talking...not the girl, not the school, and most especially not the criminals. So when no one talks, there's basically no story.

My landlady in CDO (when I was in hs) adopted a baby girl from her former student boarder. She was also a nursing student, coming home late one night after a class, raped by four estambays. She was from Davao. She only told my landlady and no one else. Later on, she found out she was pregnant. She didn't even tell her parents she was pregnant. Immediately after she gave birth, she left. My landlady never heard from her again. The baby is now about 10 yrs old.

Everyone reacts differently to trauma. Lahi lahi atong coping mechanism. The girl coped by forgetting it ever happened, and moving on with her life. She cannot be blamed for that. It's her life, after all. But if she won't talk, we can't go after the criminals or do anything.

That's all I'm saying.

I feel crying reading this account, C2H4.

I was grade 4 then. We were tendering our school garden. First I heard a helicopter-like sound approaching, then the ground shook, and I saw the ground/land moving like waves of the sea. We dropped to the ground at the prompt of our teacher. When the quake died down, I ran as fast as I could to our house. I was running to our home with so much tears in my ears. I saw the road to our house cracked wide open.

I remember that I cried because I was thinking of my mother. I thought that many people in our town were already killed by that earthquake and we, pupils at the school, were the only survivors. That was my first earthquake experience.

Just as I arrived home, another equally powerful earthquake (Intensity 7 or 8) shook the ground. I dropped to the ground and cried the more, thinking of my mother.

He approached me, with a very serious look on his face and said, "Hi, I don't want to cause trouble or anything, but I noticed that the TV (pointing to the TV outside the pharmacy) does not have a nice color hue. I wish you'd tell the manager to adjust the color because it upsets me."

Oh, this has been quite the subject of heated debates in Cebuano forums, Mr Admin.

The girl, I believe, is a student at Cebu Doctor's. They say (some people in some forums) the school is denying that any such horrendous event happened. Some say that it really did happen, but that the girl was given hush money by the school administration--to preserve the school's reputation.

Again, this is from what I've read in some Cebuano forums.

I feel so bad for the girl. Rape is the worst, worst, worst offense against women.

Dapat ma lethal injection ning mga rapists.

Ate, the rape did happen. My future stepson is taking up nursing in this school.

I'm wondering why the media did not publish this story.

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) said Wednesday it is no longer recommending routine breast self-examinations (BSE) as a way to detect cancer, citing various side effects.

While there is no evidence that BSEs lower breast cancer death rates, such regular exams give women a false sense of security and increase stress and unnecessary treatment, the Society said in a press release on its website.

Often, women who do find a benign lump or a "false positive" often have to go through extensive diagnostic testing that can result in harmful side effects, Heather Logan, director of Cancer Control Policy and Information for the CCS, told reporters Wednesday.

Organized screening with mammography and clinical breast examinations done by a doctor are recommended instead of monthly self exams, according to the release.

The CCS recommends women between the age of 50 and 69 have a mammogram every two years. Women between the ages of 40 and 49 should discuss the risks of developing breast cancer with their physician along with the risks and benefits of mammography.

Women over the age of 40 should be screened every two years by a physician. Women at the age of 70 or older should consult their doctors about screening programs.

Breast cancer death rates among women have fallen by 25 percent since 1986 and more women are living longer after diagnosis of breast cancer.

Vietnam - The fatalities from the collapse of the Can Tho bridge that occurred on September 25 has climbed to 64 while some 180 people are currently under medical care by early September 27.

The military zone No. 9 sent more soldiers to the site to help out efforts to find the workers believed to be still trapped in the rubble.

About 250 workers and engineers were reported to be working on the bridge when a 90m long span, which was part of the bridge's approach road, collapsed.

Construction of the Can Tho bridge, which is the longest in the Mekong delta so far, began in 2004 and is slated for completion next year.

The Can Tho bridge, once completed, will be Viet Nam's longest cable bridge at a total length of 2,750m and a four-lane carriageway of 26m wide.

It will have a clearance height of 39 metres to allow 15,000 DWT-sized ships to pass under.

The bridge will significantly improve the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta's accessibility to Ho Chi Minh City .

A consortium of Japanese contractors - the Taisei Corporation, the Kajima Corporation and the Nippon Steel Corporation- is building the bridge while Nippon Koei-Chodai is the supervising consultant.

Business and Economy / Philippines: A Haven for Investors
September 28, 2007, 08:01:25 AM
The top executive of one of the world’s leading business processing outsourcing (BPO) firms on Wednesday cited the Philippines as the place to be for investors looking forward to cash in on business havens in Southeast Asia.

Kenneth Tuchman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TeleTech, one of the world’s leading BPO firms, described Teletech’s Philippine operations as his company’s “biggest success story.”

Tuchman made the glowing remarks on Philippine business conditions during the luncheon he hosted in honor of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her economic team at the Louis Suite of the Waldorf Astoria Towers.

Invited to the noontime gathering were top leaders of US businesses, who had signified their interest in learning more about business prospects in the Philippines.

Also present during the luncheon-meeting were Finance Secretary MargaritoTeves, Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Favila and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo.

Saying that Teletech’s Philippine investment has paid off handsomely, Tuchman urged his fellow American businessmen to explore the investment opportunities that abound in the country.

In her response, President Arroyo told the US business leaders that the Philippines offers an environment that is highly conducive to growth, citing the world-renowned reputation of the Filipinos as hardworking, easy to get along with, and versatility in the English language. TeleTech first expanded into the Philippines in 2001.

Since that time, the country has become TeleTech's fastest-growing geography, boasting unprecedented growth from several hundred employees five years ago to 13,000 employees in 10 delivery centers today.

It is now the biggest BPO company operating in the country with the number of employees expected to reach 30,000 by next year.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that more pregnancy-related and neonatal deaths will occur in the Philippines if no effective reproductive health program would be established and implemented by the government, according to a news report.

In a press briefing in Makati City organized by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (Ecop), WHO medical officer Howard Sobel said 529,000 women in the world die of birth-related causes, leaving one million children motherless and vulnerable.

"In the Philippines, about 10 mothers a day die in childbirth, with almost 30 very young children being orphaned or having difficulty surviving everyday. In fact, the country is one of the 42 countries that accounted for 95 percent of global under-five mortality," he said, adding that motherless children are 10 times more likely to die prematurely than those with mothers.

Four out of five maternal deaths are reportedly the direct result of obstetric complications, making maternal mortality highest during labor and the two days following birth. Hypertensive disorders followed by postpartum hemorrhage along with abortive outcomes are also among the causes of maternal deaths.

Young Filipina mothers aged 15-19 are twice more likely to suffer from maternal complications than those in their 20s while 50 percent of neonates die in the first two days due to unskilled attended births and delay in the start of breastfeeding, Sobel added.

Almost all companies are beneficial to society. It's the bad elements that are running the companies that ruin the whole thing.

Alturas Corporation is good but when it starts to manufacture its own brand of this product, that product (which are harmful duplicates of the original ones and infringement of intellectual rights of other companies), then it fails to place social welfare over personal gains.

I don't really think that rats have some sort of similarities with us humans.

But the only way for the so-called scientific world to convince us that their studies are valid is to convince us that their test samples will also work in humans.

Many medicines have brought more troubles than benefits to humanity because the laboratories where the medicines are tested are using animals as test samples - only to find out later that humans react to certain chemicals quite differently.

Yes, Bran. There are perhaps more than a million Burmese illegal immigrants in Thailand and they do all kinds of lowly jobs in Thailand. Myanmar's currency is less than worthless - nobody accepts it anywhere in the world.

Thailand shares hundreds of kilometers of national boundaries with Burma. Through these boundaries, which are not as protected as the U.S. had done to its boundaries with Mexico, Burmese tried their luck and landed in the streets of Thailand.

I have several Burmese friends - they are quiet, calm and moderate souls.

Filipinos are fighters at any time of history. In fact we fight a lot and to the extreme. Our house helpers in the Middle East would even kill Arab employers when pushed to the wall.

Bran, India is already plagued with headaches caused by Pakistan. Lately, Pakistan acquired nuclear arsenals perhaps courtesy of China, Russia, and North Korea. India has no stake in Burma (aka Myanmar).

India has been confronting China, albeit subtly, over the latter's train line constructed somewhere near Kashmir. This train rail connects China to the borders of India. India felt China has intruded to its territories, but India is moderate on its public pronouncement.

Today, former NEDA Chief, Romulo Neri - a Boholano - will be an expert witness in the controversial US$330-million National Broadband Network. The deal seemed to inordinately favor a Chinese telecom supplier called ZTE Inc. with a loan linkage from a Chinese bank.

Under oath, Neri will confirm if the P200-million bribe to him offered by perceived "chief broker" Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos is for real.

If that is true - as well as the allegation of ZTE rival (Joey de Venecia) that the First Gentleman Mike Arroyo pointedly (literally, now) asked him to "back off the deal" at the Wack Wack golf club (where Abalos is president) - then the ZTE stench that smells now - from Aparri to Jolo - will be linked to the Palace (or at least to FG).

The value of Abalos - as Comelec chief - cannot be overstated considering the Garci controversy of 2004 and the Maguindanao et. al. "magic" of 2007.

That Benjamin Abalos (a municipal judge fired by Ferdinand Marcos for alleged cause and linked to the botched Comelec election computerization scam) is linked to Palace interests could be as believable as the fact that "night follows day." Except in a lunar eclipse.

Not that Neri is bereft of unsolicited prayers. Already scores of organizations are doing prayer groups to give Neri the "light of the Holy Spirit" and the intestinal fortitude to tell the truth.

As certain as knowing the crow is black - his telephone is bugged.

Before he could testify last Thursday - shadowy figures cased Neri's house in Sta. Mesa Heights. When Secretary Ermita responded with PSG guards, it was found out the casers were reportedly "intelligence operatives."

Talks were wild in Manila the other day that Neri will be brought to New York for a U.N Conference (sic) - thus bodily preventing him from testifying at the Senate again today. Text messages circulated in the metropolis - egging Neri to be brave and exposed the game plan.

By evening, the Palace music had changed - it was mere "miscommunication" - and that indeed Neri will be staying to testify today.

According the Philippine Star, Neri almost resigned in April 19 because some powerful official arm-twisted him to change from his original position of "build operate and transfer" last year to a purchase with loan arrangement - to give way to ZTE's preference.

Hopefully Neri will belie claims that NEDA approved the NBN-ZTE deal because he said "NEDA merely endorsed the broadband concept, not the company."

The NBN-ZTE deal has been shot with controversies: Joey de Venecia claimed Abalos bribed him with US$10 million (P400 million) to get off the back of ZTE; a supply agreement/contract has been sealed prior to consultation with the Monetary Board for the loan portion; the original MOU was "lost" - reappeared and then "reconstructed" (though no one has seen it); it has reportedly been overpriced - moving from the original US$130 million to US$2690 million to the current figure of US$330 million.

Neri told Star columnist Jarius Bondoc (who had received death threats for breakfast as well) that a big-time businessman, who was assigned to raise election funds for the administration, lobbied for the last increase of US$60 million. Was this to be for reimbursement for the contributors to the administration campaign kitty?

What Secretary Romy (let's call him that) will explode in the Senate Halls today will define further his unsullied performance as a government professional. He said there is a "time and place for everything-" and the Senate will provide him his place in history today.

Every kind of mud has been thrown in his way by detractors of Neri -many of them we have heard. However, a good man wears a teflon and they just bounce off his body like inconsequential irritations.

When asked in the Senate, we know Secretary Romy will not perjure himself. We are confident his allegiance will be to the truth and the welfare of 80 million Filipinos - not bureaucrats and private suppliers salivating at the kickbacks in wait in this deal and elsewhere.

To say the least, Secretary Romulo Neri is a square peg in a round hole in a government operating in a country dubbed by independent appraisers as the "most corrupt nation in Asia."

At CHED he had canceled the P180-million calling center project and before blasted the cartel in the energy industry that had resisted economic reforms. Neri had doubted where Government can find the "pump-priming funds" to achieve a programmed GNP growth next year. Neri had likewise blown the whistle on 21 projects with ODA funds which have questionable overpriced tags and stopped their DBM funding.

On nationwide television he has called our own (Bohol Irrigation Project) BHIP-2 Project as excessive and illegal - condemned it as the most "expensive dam" and said that the NIA was "authorized to buy a Toyota and bought a BMW instead."

As Chief Economist-Secretary Neri knows much - maybe too much - about the economic highway robberies going on in our country.

What he will spill today will not end with ZTE - that is our prognosis. It will be the proverbial "Pandora's Box" that will shock the nation leading into other billions of corrupted deals going on in our country.

Secretary Neri will not just be therefore "The Man of the Hour," he will be "The Man of the Year" as the investigations continue into the other projects perhaps until the year is over.

It is therefore for all these reasons that we worry for the safety of our province-mate - a patriot in the making.

May God be with him today - and always.

Jagna - Bohol / Change of LTO head in Jagna
September 27, 2007, 08:21:22 PM
The Land Transportation Offices in both this capital city and Jagna town welcomed new registrars following their respective assumption to office yesterday.

Joel Maloloy-on assumed yesterday as the new LTO registrar of Tagbilaran office after Macky Getaruelas was re-assigned to head the LTO in Toledo City. Getaruelas' stint here was perceived as "less corrupt" compared to the previous LTO chief executives assigned here.

Acting swiftly to control the spread of the deadly pest, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol passed a Resolution urging the local government units in the province to act fast by regulating and monitoring and contain the infestation of the so-called coco leaf "hispine" beetle, or Brontispa Longissima Gestro. .

Presiding the session last week, Vice-Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera stressed that along with this measure, there must be massive information campaign to raise awareness among coconut farmers in the province.

The vice-governor said that with the approval of the Resolution the LGUs must also give their fair share in the prevention of the infestation.

Initiated by the agriculture committee, the Resolution introduced by committee member Board Member Josil Trabajo, was strongly recommended by Provincial Agriculturist Liza Quirog and the top guns of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) led by Timoteo Lago Jr. Both Quirog and Lago and other PCA personnel personally met with Herrera to give updates of the infestation.

PCA said that there are now three municipalities - Baclayon, Alburquerque and Dauis - that are affected by the pest.

Talk of the Town / Hot Cars in Bohol
September 27, 2007, 08:08:03 PM
The Sangguniang Panlalawi- gan (SP) expressed alarm on the seizure of allegedly carnapped vehicles being sold to Boholano residents by unscrupulous dealers allegedly linked with a carnapping syndicate.

Prov'l Kagawad Ae Damalerio sounded off the alarm after some sectors in the community started to question the legitimacy of the operations conducted by Cebu- based operatives of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) under P/Supt. Doroteo Tolentino.

At least eight vehicles were rounded up by the team, four of which were immediately shipped to Cebu City last week.

During this week's session, Prov'l Kag Yul Lopez, as presiding officer of the prov'l SP, tasked the committee on public utilities under Damalerio as chairman and the committee on peace and order under Prov'l Kagawad Ma. Fe Lejos to jointly conduct a probe on the matter amid fears from car owners that the random operations might just victimize their own vehicles anytime while the team is presently based in the province.

The probe is also geared to check on TMG's procedure in conducting the "seize and recovery" operations of the alleged hot cars.

Damalerio told the Chronicle that the probe will invite P/Insp. Eduardo Mara, head of the Bohol Provincial Motor Vehicle Clearance Office, P/Supt. Victoria de Guzman of the PNP Crime Laboratory and newly installed LTO registrar Joel Maloloy-on.

Nilo Sapong, one of the owners of the seized Mitsubishi Adventure told the Chronicle yesterday that his unit was flogged down by the TMG, a day after two other Adventure units were also seized by the group.

Two other units of the same source, identified as a certain Ms. Depio, were also seized by the group. Sapong said he will be filing charges against the source of the unit since it was already a "hot car" when he purchased the unit in 2002. He recalled that after he got his unit, two other Adventure units arrived here from Manila.

Sapong even narrated that when he was apprehended in Loboc town he was surprised to overhear a certain P/Insp. Tolentino, head of the TMG Cebu team commented saying "Mayron ba tayong pang dinner dyan, at saka kulang pa nga yung aming pang bayad ng boarding house." (Is there anything for our dinner, and we ran short to pay for our boarding house).

Isidoro Manalo, another owner of a Mitsubishi Adventure denounced the manner his unit was seized by the TMG. He strongly questioned the TMG report narrating that he "voluntarily surrendered" his unit to Camp Dagohoy. He explained that he went to the camp, not to surrender his unit but to check after the Adventure owned by his friend, Handel Sarabosing was impounded.

I turn 28 today and I am not feeling well. I slept at 6 a.m. and woke up at 7:30 a.m. to work.

My father was discharged from the hospital today. I thank the Lord that my father has started to realize that life on earth is temporary.

The dollar has fallen to yet another all-time low against the euro, after further weak US economic data.

Figures showed that US consumer confidence has fallen to a near two-year low, while house prices have seen the sharpest drop in 16 years.

Analysts said the data boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates still further.

In early trading on Wednesday, the euro hit a high of $1.4162, before pulling back to $1.4131 by 2230 GMT.

'Anti-dollar momentum'

The Fed cut US interest rates to 4.75% from 5.25% last week, in a move aimed at restoring confidence in both the housing and financial markets.

Kuyawa aning Macky, makapatandog ug makapakurog man sab ning imong balak. Salamat kaajo, Macky!

Macky, most of the balaks I posted here were written years and years ago, and to be honest, I write poems detached from realities. I cannot even interpret my own poems except for those poems that I specifically dedicated to family members and strangers...

And when friends ask what I meant with those poems, I cannot give an answer because I don't know what I'm writing.

Now some people may wonder why I cannot decipher my own poetry. Well, that is poetry. Poetry is complex as the poet is. Poetry cannot be interpreted by what is perceived by human senses.

I'm in love with words, and if I say in my poem: "ug napalong ang kahayag sa adlaw sa pagbuka sa imong mga mata...", that would be outrageous for the sunlight cannot be extinguished by any human invention. But why did I write that in the poem? The answer is that I love the words and I want to stir the imagination of the reader.

Also, I write poems out of people's experiences and feelings that I know from them and I take those feelings as my own - it's like putting myself in their shoes.

My problem now is that many of the readers would rush to see myself in my poems. But that is the fate of a complex poet.

Macky, in my poems I am not there.

And in your poem now, you are not there. And I was not there, too.

My best wishes and may God's force be upon you.

I guess we share the same fate. Twice in my life I had forgoten my birthday. The first one, when I was just single at that time. My mother called to greet a belated wish, only to know 5 days had passed. The second, I came from a busy work when my wife, kids and neighbors surprised me with a dinner. Now that I have a son with the same birthday, I will never forget my birthday.

To God be the glory who gave us life and salvation in Christ Jesus.

Macky, it is acceptable to forget our own birthday, but not the birthdays of our loved ones. :)

Travel and Tours / Bohol celebrates National Tourism Week
September 26, 2007, 08:17:07 PM
The Provincial Government of Bohol celebrates National Tourism Week, Sept. 24 to 29. In line with World Tourism Organization's celebration of World Tourism Day, the province has adopted the theme "Tourism Opens Doors for Women."

World Tourism Day 2007 is an occasion to celebrate women's achievements in the tourism sector and stimulate continuous action in support of UN's 3rd Millenium Development Goal of Promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.

A simple kick-off program highlighted with trivia quizzes with prizes to lucky winners was held at the Acacia Court, Provincial Capitol Compoundlast Monday. Capping the weeklong celebration to be held at the Activity Center of the Island City Mall on Friday at 4:30 p.m. will be song, dance and choral presentations by the educational institutions in the province offering related courses to tourism, highlighting the show along with trivia quizzes and prizes to be given away to lucky winners.

The AFP-Centcom is comprised of units from the military's major services - the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force.

Ibrado said Centcom is eyeing to relocate here since they have plans of housing only its administrative offices in Camp Lapulapu in Cebu City, its current command base.

The Centcom commander considers Bohol as a strategic place for their operations center.

The CVSCAFT on the other hand held Miss Tourism Personality Tilt and Tourism Quiz Bowl in celebration of the occasion, while the Mater Dei College of Tubigon conducted seminars and workshops on Tourism, Hotel & Restaurant Management & Housekeeping Techniques, the Whats and Hows of a Tour Agency, and a symposium on the Current Trends and Issues on Tourism. They also exhibited native industries which they held at the Mater Dei College Activity Center in Tubigon.

Another highlight of National Tourism Week is the Annual Provincial Tourism Quiz which will be held on Saturday at the BQ Mall Atrium.

Organized by the Bohol Island Tour Guides Association of the Philippines or BITGAP, it is also sponsored by the Bohol Tourism Office.

Technology / Is Yahoo Unfair to Gmail?
September 26, 2007, 03:15:56 PM
Few days ago I complained of Yahoo's crazy Spam algorithms. My dissatisfaction and disgust of Yahoo's e-mail system became more unendurable when many of e-mails (newspaper articles) sent from Gmail went to the Spam folder of Yahoo. But none of Yahoo's e-mails ever landed on my Gmail's Spam folder.

Isn't it unfair that Yahoo is not treating Gmail nicely while Gmail is very sweet to Yahoo? Is this intentional? When will Yahoo make a concrete action on this troubling issue?

Now today I read Stephen Bakers's blog in <a href="http://www.businessweek.com">Businessweek Online</a> and I can only sympathized with Stephen's courtesy of Yahoo.

This is what Stephen Baker of businessweek.com has said:

QuoteI was on the road yesterday, in Washington, and trying to close a story at the same time. I had my editor send messages to my Yahoo account, which goes into my (personal) Blackberry. Today I see that Yahoo stuffed all of his mail into my spam folder. Doesn't its machine they see that I do a lot of legitimate traffic with addresses ending in businessweek.com? Could it possibly be because my article mentions the word "spam?" and "viagra?" Could their spam filter be working on such primitive key words? (I just experimented on that, sending the same story to my Yahoo account, and it got through.)

This issue extends far beyond spam. If Yahoo wants to close the gap with Google, the company must teach its machines to analyze our written words (and other data) with ever greater sophistication and precision. Am I wrong to think that a spam filter this far out of kilter signals problems in that area?

According to a business survey in 13 countries, 30% of those of us laboring in the "enterprise sector" think that e-mail fails to make us more productive. Dimension Data, which carried out the survey, reports that barely half of them (53%) belief that telephones, fixed and wireless alike, have a "positive impact on productivity."

Actress Lorna Tolentino reveals that her family is effectively coping and reaching each other for support amid the serious ailment that has stricken her husband, action star Rudy Fernandez.

Rudy is currently battling ampullary cancer and is currently undergoing a series of chemotherapy sessions here and abroad.

“Sa likod ng aming pag-iisip, siyempre ganoon pero iniiwasan naming yon. Ginagawa naming normal ang lahat ng mga bagay. Parang hindi naming iniisip na may sakit si Rudy kundi siguro iniiwasan naming yon para lalong maging mabuti yung pagharap naming sa future,” Lorna tells GMA-7’s Startalk, a showbiz talk show she co-hosts.

“Bawa’t araw, bawa’t oras, bawa’t minuto lalo naming pinapakita sa isa’t isa yung pagmamahal namin,” she added.

Lorna said Rudy is currently under the knife to have a portacatheter inserted. “Para siyang may pacemaker para hindi masyadong masakit sa mga veins niya yung chemo na ginagawa sa kanya,” Lorna said.

The multi-award winning actress also said Rudy is taking the ailment positively and in high spirits.

“Rudy is so positive about everything. So kahit na medyo nanghihina siya pagka-after ng chemo niya for a while lang yon. Nilalabanan niya yon. Kasi masyadong depressing siguro kung talagang i-nenega (negative) mo pa yung emotions.”

Amid all the trials, she said she noticed a stark change in their kids and even Rudy’s son with actress-politician Alma Moreno, Mark Anthony Fernandez.

Bohol Latest News / Napocor's Take Over in Bohol
September 26, 2007, 12:59:02 PM
National Power Corporation president Cyril Del Callar recently assured the House Committee on Appropriations that they will soon take over the operation of power generation and supply in the small islands in the first district.

This was after the persistent follow-up by first district Representative Edgar Chatto and the resolution from BOHECO I supporting the move.

n an interview with the local media, Chatto explained that taking over by small power utility group (SPUG) will mean lower power costs in the island barangays which are now charged almost double the rate of mainland consumers.

He said SPUG is in charge of providing "mercy power services" to non-economically viable areas.

Among the barangays to benefit the SPUG take-over are Cabilao, Pamilacan, Balicasag, Mantatao, and the six island barangays in Tubigon.

Being a coastal town, the decade-old fight against illegal fishing thrive in the checklist of priorities of the Municipal Peace and Order Council which held its regular meeting on September 11 at JJ's Foodstream here.

On August 15, 2007, Bambi registered with Tubag Bohol. Two days later she posted a message asking for help to locate a best friend whom she had lost contact since 1992. That was Bambi's first ever post from Germany.

Today, Bambi's search is over. This can be one of the milestones of Tubag Bohol.

In the meantime, let me give the floor to Bambi. She will narrate the whole story, hopefully...
