Hot Cars in Bohol
« on: September 27, 2007, 08:08:03 PM »
The Sangguniang Panlalawi- gan (SP) expressed alarm on the seizure of allegedly carnapped vehicles being sold to Boholano residents by unscrupulous dealers allegedly linked with a carnapping syndicate.

Prov'l Kagawad Ae Damalerio sounded off the alarm after some sectors in the community started to question the legitimacy of the operations conducted by Cebu- based operatives of the Traffic Management Group (TMG) under P/Supt. Doroteo Tolentino.

At least eight vehicles were rounded up by the team, four of which were immediately shipped to Cebu City last week.

During this week's session, Prov'l Kag Yul Lopez, as presiding officer of the prov'l SP, tasked the committee on public utilities under Damalerio as chairman and the committee on peace and order under Prov'l Kagawad Ma. Fe Lejos to jointly conduct a probe on the matter amid fears from car owners that the random operations might just victimize their own vehicles anytime while the team is presently based in the province.

The probe is also geared to check on TMG's procedure in conducting the "seize and recovery" operations of the alleged hot cars.

Damalerio told the Chronicle that the probe will invite P/Insp. Eduardo Mara, head of the Bohol Provincial Motor Vehicle Clearance Office, P/Supt. Victoria de Guzman of the PNP Crime Laboratory and newly installed LTO registrar Joel Maloloy-on.

Nilo Sapong, one of the owners of the seized Mitsubishi Adventure told the Chronicle yesterday that his unit was flogged down by the TMG, a day after two other Adventure units were also seized by the group.

Two other units of the same source, identified as a certain Ms. Depio, were also seized by the group. Sapong said he will be filing charges against the source of the unit since it was already a "hot car" when he purchased the unit in 2002. He recalled that after he got his unit, two other Adventure units arrived here from Manila.

Sapong even narrated that when he was apprehended in Loboc town he was surprised to overhear a certain P/Insp. Tolentino, head of the TMG Cebu team commented saying "Mayron ba tayong pang dinner dyan, at saka kulang pa nga yung aming pang bayad ng boarding house." (Is there anything for our dinner, and we ran short to pay for our boarding house).

Isidoro Manalo, another owner of a Mitsubishi Adventure denounced the manner his unit was seized by the TMG. He strongly questioned the TMG report narrating that he "voluntarily surrendered" his unit to Camp Dagohoy. He explained that he went to the camp, not to surrender his unit but to check after the Adventure owned by his friend, Handel Sarabosing was impounded.
