Robots Replacing Humans
« on: September 24, 2007, 08:09:58 PM »
(FSB Magazine) -- Two of the best workers at Blue Chip, a manufacturing shop in Columbus, don't take lunch breaks. These model employees draw no salary, work unlimited shifts, and weld at lightning speed. Their performance isn't just superhuman it isn't human at all. "My robots are wonderful," says Steve Tatman, vice president of engineering at Blue Chip (bluechipmanufacturing.com). "Since adding them to the team, we've become more competitive and more efficient."

Blue Chip grosses about $5 million a year machining spare parts for the U.S. military. "I always thought robots were out of our league, pricewise," says Tatman, 47, who owns and operates the company in partnership with his wife, Tammy, Blue Chip's president. "They were a mystery to me." But when Blue Chip landed a Pentagon contract to manufacture thousands of drift pins (L-shaped tools the military needed to change tank treads), he decided it was finally time to explore automation. "It takes a human seven minutes to weld a drift pin," he says. "It takes a machine 45 seconds."

Is anyone here familiar with Alvin Toffler's work and anything about the technological singularity?  This is one of those things that scare me.  Simbaku lang!

Actually it is a company trick practiced in America since the early 90's and still working until now.

We all know that downsizing a company means "more people will buy stocks of that company". The reason: this company is improving, this company is using technology by replacing people with robots. Therefore, this company is on the fast track of the business.

The reality is, they are doing it for show. The reason: want more investors in their stock market and when demand is more, the higher the price per share.

So, what they do is either do a company merger and fire extra people or just fire employees without a reason. Then they will invest on 1 or 2 robots which will be on publicity for a maximum of one year (just to show).

However, at the back-stage, they are not actually down-sizing. They are throwing 1 manager through the window and replacing him with 5 lowly paid indian excecutive. Or firing one executive secretary and replacing him with un-personalized service from hundreds of call center operator somewhere from Philippines or Singapore.

Moreover, companies are not just firing employees, but firing the most senior at priority. The ones who are most eligible for pension.

Human employees are loosing at the end of the game. This is the trick of corporations.

Yes, if we build a company, it must be an ethical one. A company that not only builds assets for ourselves, but for the unfortunate as well. It must be on a basis of a win-win proposition.

We have only one life. Let us not ruin our reputation in front of God.

Almost all companies are beneficial to society. It's the bad elements that are running the companies that ruin the whole thing.

Alturas Corporation is good but when it starts to manufacture its own brand of this product, that product (which are harmful duplicates of the original ones and infringement of intellectual rights of other companies), then it fails to place social welfare over personal gains.
