just a piece for this interesting thread--- it looks like the discussion on the politics and policies, potential and otherwise, on valencia is more wholesome than some political discussions in other tb threads.  while i cannot vote for either olegario or gan, i hope for the best for valencia, the town of my childhood vacations.

in valencia i learned the joys of picking seashells and bathing (i can't swim) in the sea every day.  there my two younger siblings studied for a year and learned to speak boholano-visayan fast.  and there my mother is buried.  she came from the place and had always wanted to go back home.  she did. 

in valencia, i had selfless playmates who made my childhood vacations something to miss when they ended.

in valencia was our grandma whose love for animals had her bury their dog after a procession around the house with my two younger siblings, who held flowers and lighted candles as they mourned.  was it just a game?  on hindsight, i'm not so sure now. 

as for lorenzo's earlier post about a salise judge, if you meant hector, the rtc judge in butuan, i can say i know him.  he's a first cousin.  i'm not familiar with any other salise judge.   

yes, 50 percent of me is valencianhon.  that much i can claim.  and though i can no longer claim a home there and have stopped feeling at home there ever since our mother passed away eons ago, the place remains poignant in my memory.

it's truly stressful when cats get sick.  one of my cats also had a kabahong on his neck.  i had to inject her with antibiotics twice a day for 7 days.  the vet forced me to do it myself or else i would have to take two trips a day to the clinic.  wa lang siya kahibawo that the first few times i did the injections i almost fainted ug magsakit akong tiyan every time i prepare the medicine.  wa pa nay labot sa kamras kun malipat ko usahay.

aren’t all other biblical verses ‘guiding light on moral decency’?  i can’t imagine the bible having any verse that espouses the opposite.  and what is that ‘something’ that’s lacking in this ‘current generation’?  the guiding light or the moral decency?
 
correct me if i’m wrong, but i would like to believe that ‘current generation’ as used in this context means ‘modern times’, otherwise there are at least four generations going about the business of living nowadays, from the second world war veterans to the beat generation, the flower generation, down to the gen-x and heaven knows what else, which begs the question of which generation is current and why women are being particularly warned in this thread.     

today i had to finally do what i have been postponing all along--- laying a trap for the stray and homeless cats that i've been feeding for almost a year.  i have to take them to the animal shelter for spaying and neutering before they multiply in unacceptable proportions.  besides, those dying kittens rob me of sleep.

truly intended for laughs by someone who isn't in the country anymore.  it may also be self-deprecating, but it's a piss-off at the same time in its presumptuousness, for me anyway.  everyone has a relative outside keeping them alive?  (sorry, i, for one, don't have one, and i'm alive.)  but omg, some relatives outside could even hardly keep themselves alive!

with apologies to those who went out for other reasons (marriage, career assignment, etc.), those who went out and those who still wish to are the materially dissatisfied ones, those who would rather escape from a sordid past, and those who never really had good chances within the country.  and when they had gone out, they look back and look down as if they're already in heaven, bestowing on themselves their new sense of self-importance. 

could this be one reason why some expats come for brief visits, donate 'to the less privileged' (their words), with full publicity (press releases by themselves) and making sure their names are mentioned?  why not donate quietly rather than have one's name written on a billboard in front of a church because one had donated 50 dollars?

truly, some (again, with apologies to the exceptions) expats think too greatly of themselves. i once met a pinoy in europe who worked in a chocolate factory as a packer.  he boasted that he was coming back home to run as governor.  i almost puked and had wished to slap him right there and then.
