yes, sa us. pero i did have thoughts before of studying in pinas. (i originally had interest in applying to medical schools in: santo tomas, up, cim, univ. of the east)

you're right. the past is past. since you brought it up tho, deep, i will admit that i never had closure with her (Katie). i told my parents before of my decision to do this as well as my friends. their response is similar to yours. and i appreciate it. and you're right, i guess. we have to move on and to focus on the plate in front of us.

as for calling her. perhaps. someday when i can muster enough strength. i guess i am a coward when it comes to emotional recoil. i can operate on patients, i can handle being screamed and yelled by attendings, and handle admission calls. but when it comes to seeing a woman cry-- it is hard for me. i've always walked away from emotional break ups. i prefer to walk away instead of delving in the drama of it. my weakness i guess. one which i must tackle head on someday.

but on that note. i will keep the option of calling her. who knows. maybe it might not be as bad.

much thanks for listening and the advice.

some guys like to show their affection in public places, some like to show behind closed doors.
some guys like to show it vocally, some like to write their lovers poems.
some guys are aggressive and confident when addressing their lovers, some are secretly.

some guys shower their lovers with gifts to show their affection.
some guys shower their lovers with physical touch.

This is damage in epic proportions. The 2004 Asian Tsunami that devastated Indonesia (over 150,000 dead), Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh is still fresh in my memory.

I was reading a news article online that said that the prefecture that the tsunami hit hard had suffered massive losses. In one town, half of the inhabitants are either dead or missing. Many reports of villages being completely erased from existence. Many of those villages are hundreds, if not thousands of years old.

How powerful -- The Hand of God. How powerful is God in His Fury.

My thoughts:

Where did this come from? What just happened? My mind reverberates on the rhetorical: "how could this happen to Japan? Can this happen to Japan?"

Of all the countries in the world, it is Japan that is most prepared for such calamties such as tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. It was made known to me in a report from ABC that the Japanese have an advanced emergency plan that sends out messages via electronic communication to all citizens in cases of imminent natural catastrophes.

Yet despite this. Despite such structural engineering that prepares and boldly stands up to nature, the tsunami occurred.
As of right now, the Japanese authorities are estimating that over 10,000 are dead. I read reports that the Japanese are cremating dead by the dozens and that the crematoriums in around the region of focus are beyond capacity. Over 100,000 Japanese soldiers are apparently being deployed to the center and the areas hit by the catastrophe.

Everything seems to be normalizing now as help and reinforcement are coming in. Yet, still, i cant help asking the same question, "Did this really happen?"

I guess, it is true that no one, no people, no nation, can be truly prepared for nature's fury. Man's technology and advanced systems, which Japan clearly embodies technological precedence, cannot stand up to Nature's Fury.

how oddly familiar. our situation. i being the giving end, and you the receiving end. yes, it is with contrite heart that i speak about this (a form of therapy almost, in an oddly yet positive way) to anonymous folk. the reasons for my breaking up with her was to make sure i attain excellence in studies. sa under grad nako, i graduated summa cum laude from college and so i wanted to maintain that same excellence in medicine. i thought that by removing all forms of distraction, i could maintain. my relationship , at the time, did take up so much of my time and emotional energy.

tho to my finding , later on that is, that medicine would be 10x as hard as undergraduate.

during my 1st and 2nd years, especially my 2nd year, i realized that i desperately needed the mental and emotional support that my xgf gave me during college. luckily for me, i did meet a med student who clicked with me. btw, she happens to be filipina and emotionally supportive. we support each other and are there for one another, especially during this crucial time of our lives, the clinical internship years.

closure. you know, you have a point. perhaps i never did have closure with my xgf. that is probably why i think of her from time to time. whatever she is doing now, wherever she is, i hope and pray that she is happy. the last i heard (from a mutual friend) is that she is still working on her Ph.D in immunology in Galveston, Texas.

its wierd. i can't bring myself to apologize to her or to hear her voice. it would make me weak. and i don't want to cry about her anymore. it is a loss that i will have to live with for the rest of my life.

i guess, one of the sweet, spices, of life.

I was expecting it to be sour , but to my behest, and to my surprise, it was rather succulently sweet! My cousin and I made quick use of the rambutan as we drove from Dauis back to Valencia.

At night, as our stomachs craved for more rambutan (well , more so my stomach than his, bwahahaha) we went to the fridge and had some rambutan. Lolo was awake that night so he joined us in the dinner table. Ingon pood sija nako, "Ondoy, tagai pood ko sa rambutan bi". So kami tulu (si lolo, si keenu, ug ako) ning kaon ug rambutan. My opinion on the hypothetical tactical scenario:

A scenario between China, and the United States is , by all means, a catastrophe of epic proportions. A war between the two powers is something that both parties, Washington and Beijing, want to evade at all costs. The reasons for this is that when a war between the two powers is declared, it will not stop until one is defeated, or if the world is destroyed, considering the fact that both powers, China and USA, are nuclear powers.

In regards to Taiwan, the Chinese (PRC) are not going to throw away their developments for the sake of imminent take-over of its rogue province, Taiwan, no, not yet. The Chinese have a better way of bringing back Taiwan to its fold; through economic means. And through persistence.

China, as a world power, and as an economic giant with epic clout, drives the One-China Policy, which its trade and diplomatic partners are too willing to acquiesce or suffer the loss of Chinese trade and political disambiguation. An example would be the recent Philippine acceptance of the One-China Policy, which thereby relinquished all Philippine Claim of recognizing Taiwan as an independent state.

China will wait, perhaps 3-4 decades more, for her acquisition of Taiwan. She will probably wait when she is no longer contested as the world / regional hegemon of Asia-Pacific.

The People's Republic of China has hundreds, if not thousands of Nuclear ICBMs (Intercontinental ballistic missiles) which have the ability to vaporize and glass large areas of land, cities, ports, any military-economic-civil locale. If she sends 2-3 ICBMs to Taiwan, she could easily vaporize Taiwan into oblivion.

China can launch 14 ICBMs on the Philippines (if we side with USA) and this would exterminate all / if not most Filipinos from existence. 5 nukes in Luzon (2 in Manila-Quezon, 1 in Ilocos , 1 in Pampanga, 1 in southern Luzon). 4 Nukes in Visayas (1 in Cebu, 1 in Iloilo-Bacolod, 1 in Tacloban Region, 1 in Bohol). 5 Nukes in Mindanao (Davao, CDO, Gen San, Illigan City, Bukidnon Region).

The effects of such a Nuclear Punishment (considering the radiation, loss of communication, spread of disease due to decapitated medical system, rampant anarchy and chaos, etc) would lead to millions upon millions of Filipino dead. The Extermination of the Filipino Nation and the Filipino People.  The Government and the Nation would collapse.

--

As for America, if it is at war with a nuclear Power, China in this case, if nukes not used as a deterrent, they it will be used in war. I fear the results of such a nuclear war. Whole regions of the planet, if not the whole planet, would be glassed. We're looking at a world-wide human extermination.

LAST PART

The US finally entered the war at 0930 hours, F/A22 fighters took off from Basa and Clark Field air force base, F35 VSTOL flew along side the F/A22 for a deep strike ground attack mission armed with JSOW, HARM, hellfire and a mix of AIM-120 and sidewinder missiles. It was an awesome and frightening sight for the Filipino people who saw the flight of over a hundred fighters taking off one by one at secret military bases, they knew that for the first time since the end of World War II the Philippines is being sucked up again by the United States in another war. Meanwhile in the streets of manila leftwing radicals, and grandstanding politicians are rallying against the Philippines quiet participation in the war, but their silence regarding China’s invasion of Taiwan revealed their real motive.

The USAF finally join in the actual fight before noon, they dropped JSOW, cluster bombs, and the most lethal of all is the FAE bomb (FAE is the most powerful conventional bomb also known as mini atom bomb) at the trapped PLA forces in western Taiwan. CNN and BBC news would later describe the killing of the Chinese soldiers as overkill an excessive use of force against an enemy, because the PLA soldiers were already encircled, and trapped at the beach.

US B52, and B1E lancer bombers based in Guam fired their latest weapons against PLAN navy ships in northern Taiwan using tomahawk cruise missile and the new HarpoonX the latter is an advance version of the old harpoon anti ship missile, it can fly longer, supersonic and designed to counter decoys and counter measures. One by one PLAN ships began sinking.

The US navy’s Pacific fleet couldn’t get in time but F/A18E fighters escorted by the air force air tankers were able to join in the mission striking targets mostly, tanks, IFV, and artillery of the PLA, UCAV based in the Philippines armed with hellfire and AIM-120 missiles destroyed more than 600 tanks, IFV and artillery, it managed to shot down several F8, and J10 fighters of the PLAAF

By 1600 hours the 101st air assault division also known as the screaming eagles, began parachuting over the sky of Taiwan in a High altitude landing operation or HALO. The purpose of the HALO jump from large transport aircraft is to avoid Chinese anti aircraft missile or SAM. The US Special Forces mission is to hunt and fight PLA commandos leaving the conventional fighting to the Taiwanese army. In addition to their mission is to serve as forward air controller for all the US aircraft conducting strike mission.

In western Philippines north of the Spratly islands and China Sea, US navy’s squadron of P3C Orion began hunting the PLAN submarines, and attack boats that are blocking the free passage of trade and commerce. China’s declaration of sovereignty in the whole of China Sea and express prohibition of civilian and military ships passing through that sea during the invasion of Taiwan is one of the justifications used by the US to act militarily against the PROC. Dropping a floating sonar in the sea the P3C Orion detected and sunk nearly a dozen PLAN submarines and missile boats. In one incident a lone P3C was flying without an escort of fighters when the F/A18E squadron was diverted to northern Philippines to support the embattled Taiwanese forces. The P3C aircraft was being chased by four SU27SK fighters of the PLAAF with the intention to shoot it with 30mm cannon because the P3C is armed with electronic and radar jammer thus the SU27SK were unable to shoot it with missiles. Unable to defend itself against the faster and agile fighters of the PLAAF it called for help, the Philippine Air Force happens to have 2 F5E tigershark fighters armed with Israeli made Phyton5 missiles patrolling near the area. But the two PAF fighters couldn’t come to the rescue of the P3C plane because under the PAF rules of engagement PAF pilots are not allowed to engage the Chinese fighters unless they enter the Philippine air space or territory and after three repeated warnings for the aircraft to leave the Philippine territory or land peacefully at nearby airfield, and visual sighting of the aircraft is a must. The four Chicom fighters soon entered the Philippine airspace, they ignored the warning of the 2 PAF fighters to leave because the Chinese pilots considered the PAF as the laughing stock of Asia, the four SU27SK fighters continued pursuing the P3C Orion. The US navy plane was about to be killed by the 30mm cannon of the SU27SK when they detected the two F5E fighters of the PAF radioing them to leave. The four SU27SK fighters of the PLAAF decided to engage instead the two F5E fighters of the PAF. “To kill a defenseless enemy aircraft like the P3C is an honor, but to kill an armed jet fighter is a glory”

The Chinese pilots over confidence worked against them, it was a fight of 4 to 2 in China’s favor, and both sides fired missiles at each other, The PAF pilots happen to be members of the blue diamond aerial acrobatic team, in a stunning display of aerial acrobatic skill aided by flares, decoys, and electronic counter measure, the PAF pilots managed to evade the heat seeking short range missiles of the SU27SK, but the Phyton5 missiles fired by the F5E slammed into one of the SU27SK. Phyton5 is fired through a bore sight of the helmet-mounted sights (HMS) of the F5E. Now the dogfight is 3 to 2 still in China’s favor, the SU27SK is a superior fighter compared with the F5E, it is faster, can climb higher, fly longer, and very agile. During the aerial ballet dogfight one of the SU27SK fired its 30mm cannon but couldn’t hit their target because the F5E is very small and agile as well. But superior flying skill regardless of the flight worthiness of the aircraft proved to be beneficial to the PAF pilots, soon the fight was reversed the SU27SK fighters playing the role of the hunters become the hunted, one of the SU27SK tried the cobra maneuver to evade the chasing F5E fighter but the PAF pilot was trained to expect that maneuver, it immediately fired its last remaining missile, it slammed into the SU27SK, because of the short distance the SU27SK decoys and counter measure failed to lure away the F5E missile. Now the dogfight is even 2 to 2, the two PAF pilots decided to coordinate their fight they performed violent acrobatic maneuver to confuse the SU27SK fighters of the PLAAF they soon closed in on the two Chinese fighters one by one they fired their weapon using their 20mm cannon. The dogfight was over in just five minutes, but for the pilots of the PAF it was their longest five minutes, even them couldn’t believe that the dogfight just took five minutes.

By 1800 hours the brave PLA soldiers in western Taiwan was defeated. But in northern Taiwan near the capital of Taipei the PLA was overrunning the Taiwanese defenses. Only the timely arrival of the B52, B1 bombers, F35 fighters based in the Philippines save the Taiwanese northern forces from the imminent defeat. To make the fight more demoralizing for the PLA, Taiwanese reserve aircraft based at several secret location finally join the fight providing close air support for the embattled Taiwanese army. The fight was brutal on both sides; it is like a meat grinder. Many PLA soldiers surrendered after realizing that they have no close air support to prosecute the war.

Within 48 hours, facing imminent defeat in Taiwan and without air superiority, and her navy is now just a shadow of what it once was; The People’s Republic of China decided to send all available fighters and bombers in her inventory to Taiwan, but this time the F15E and F35 fighters of the US air force and marine based in Japan finally join the fight, after getting permission from the Japanese government and after realizing that North Korea has no intention to invade South Korea. Over a thousand aircraft was involved in this fight, the first massive air-to-air engagement since the end of World War II. In the end the combined US and Taiwanese forces plus their superior technology would win this air war. It was a decision that China would later regret.

Five days after the invasion, and China’s defeat is now official but China has yet to acknowledge it. A secret face saving negotiation is being held at Geneva Switzerland, all parties involve favor a ceasefire and none would declare a military victory. Under the terms of agreement status quo would be maintained, Taiwan would acknowledge to be part of China and negotiation for peaceful reunification shall begin by 2030, and the US military would be allowed to have a military bases in Taiwan for 100 years even after reunification with China. And in the event of reunification it would be a one country two system and, Taiwan has the right to choose its own leader and maintain its own military but under the Chinese command structure. China would pay the US and Taiwan 140 billion dollars not as war reparation but as damage to the properties destroyed during the war.

The US has no intention to honor all of her commitments to the Philippines. Shade of World War II betrayal of veterans all over again

PART 1 (posted by EL COMMANDANTE FROM TIMAWA.NET)

Guys, if you have the time please read this post, Very Happy  take note I am not advocating a war here. I was already admonished by Opus for this. I wrote this post to serve as an outline for the book that I am planning to write, if I find the time. I would need your suggestion, inputs, and criticism.

GLOSSARY
PROC: People’s Republic of China
PLA: People’s Liberation Army
PLAAF: People’s Liberation Army Air force
PLAN: People’s Liberation Army Navy
ChiCom: Chinese communist

Republic of China or ROC   Taiwan’s official name
ROCAF: Republic of China Air Force

A scenario of US, China conflict.

China’s emerging status as a superpower is undeniable. Her rapid economic expansion makes her a manufacturing giant; in technology she is fast catching up with the west, Japan, and Korea, China in fact has recently acquired the pc unit of IBM corporation. China is now the third country to launch a manned mission in the space, and is expected to launch a manned mission on the moon within twenty years.

The USA can sneer that they landed on the moon first in 1969. But the US must remember that was 36 years ago, since then the growth of space exploration has stunted. China’s space agency has a yearly budget of only 2 billion dollars, while NASA’s yearly budget is bigger than the Philippine foreign debt. Imagine if China’s space agency has a budget of just half of NASA’s budget, she could send a manned mission to mars!

So why am I telling this? Because space is the future battleground of the USA and China, for technological supremacy, it maybe good for mankind because space exploration has commercial and military application.

Taiwan no doubt is the main thorn in the US, China relations, but even if Taiwan reunified peacefully with China, rivalry between US and China would remain not because of China’s communist ideology. It is because man cannot live without a rival, future enemy, and traditional enemy. Like the Greek and Turkish rivalry, Japan versus China, Russia and Korea. The Arabs versus the Jews, Kurds, and Christians. Since China is the only country that could threaten the US sole status as a superpower therefore it is only logical for the US to prevent that from happening at all cost. This is the reason why the USA would come to the rescue of Taiwan in the event of Chinese invasion, China has Hong Kong already, and a combined China, HK, and Taiwan economy is a nightmare for the USA.

The year is 2016, in this scenario; China now the third largest economy in the world after Japan, invaded Taiwan (disguised as a mere military exercise) after announcing its intention to declare independence, which is not really surprising because, Taiwan for years had been insisting that it is separate from China. Unable to defend herself Taiwan beg the US to come to her rescue, The US would come to Taiwan’s rescue anyway even if Taiwan do not ask for it explicitly. Prior to the invasion of Taiwan, Chinese commercial vessels are expected to block the Panama canal, and Suez canal by deliberately sabotaging the ships while passing through that canals. The US navy carrier battle group in the mediterranean and Atlantic would be unable to come quickly to the rescue of Taiwan, because of the mammoth obstacles in the canals that are made of steel.

Prior to the invasion, China’s communist ally North Korea under pressure from China would raise its alert status by moving nearly a million troops, thousand’s of artillery, tanks, and IFV near the DMZ separating North Korea to South Korea. Nokor air force is flying close to the border with activated radar, Nokor navy ships flagrantly intruded the sea border separating the two Korea. The purpose of this provocative action by North Korea and China is to tie up the US forces in South Korea, and Japan, thus preventing the US forces to automatically come to the rescue of Taiwan fearing that North Korea might attack South Korea.
Taiwan is expected to fight with ferocity of a lion; she has one of the best air force in Asia such as the F16, Mirage 2000, and Ching Kuo fighters, though ageing already Taiwan periodically upgrade its fleet of about 550 aircraft thus attaining an operational readiness of 90%. But the Taiwanese navy is no match for its giant rival. The eight diesel submarines ordered by Taiwan from the United States could not be completed because of internal politics, and when the order for the acquisition of submarines was finally given a go signal by the Taiwanese government it was too late! The invasion has just begun, (code name: operation Dragon’s reach) but Taiwan has six La Fayette class stealth frigates, nine second hand ex USN frigates and destroyers, two ageing Dutch made submarine and ten squadron of locally developed missile boats equipped with harpoon ASM and indigenously developed missile system, definitely no match to PLAN’s powerful submarine fleet of about forty, a combination of seventy five destroyers, and frigates, including Russian made destroyers, and thousands of missile boats and hovercraft for beachhead landing. (Like the Normandy beachhead landing)

In this scenario, at about 0200 hours Christmas day, China pursuant to the implementation of its tough anti secession law and using it as one of the justifications for the invasion, launched a barrage of surface-to-surface missiles, a mix of Chinese, and Russian made, to Taiwanese cities, military installations and bases. (On another angle this is not really an invasion, Taiwan is part of China, the UN and the whole world recognize China’s sovereignty over Taiwan. Therefore this action by China is a mere enforcement of the law.) Chinese warplanes such as SU27SK, SU30MK, heavy bombers, J8 and J10 fighters whose production China had just completed for a total of 900 aircraft replacing the ageing J7 fighters, flew in a coordinated attack to establish air superiority with the SU30Mk armed with anti ship sunburn missile devoted to hunt Taiwanese navy ships. In this air and naval attack China is guided by five radar planes, the Chinese version of AWACS acquired with some technical assistance from Israel, Russia, and Europe when the latter partially lifted its arms embargo against China. Included in this air armada are twelve air refueling tanker a converted Boeing aircraft. The US knew that China is converting the aircraft to flying fuel tanker, but has decided to keep silent about it for fearing it might lose the huge Chinese market for commercial aircraft.

The sky over the Taiwan strait (it is more than a hundred miles separating China from Taiwan) was filled by more than four hundred warplanes, And in the sea, thousands of ships including commandeered commercial ships loaded with armored infantry vehicles, and Type 90 main battle tanks sailed toward Taiwan, and in the tiny Taiwanese island of Quemoy, the island nearest to China than Taiwan. This tiny island is Taiwan’s first line of defense against China.

Taiwan, and the US knew that the invasion was imminent but could not agree when exactly it would be launched, but they were not caught off guard, alerted of the incoming fighters, and bombers by the ROCAF AWACS flying 24 hours a day, Taiwan immediately launch its F16A, Mirage2000 and Ching Kuo fighters a total of 235 fighters. Within minutes of detecting each other over the Taiwan straits, the Chinese and Taiwanese fighters launched a salvo of beyond visual range or BVR missiles (R-77 versus AMRAAM) against each other, but effective counter measure such as electronic, radar jamming, and decoys by ROCAF defeated the first salvo of BVR missiles by the PLAAF, only a few of the ROCAF fighters were shot down by the R-77 missile, not to be outdone the PLAAF fighters are armed also with counter measure although not as effective like the Taiwanese fighters. In the initial air-to-air engagement the ROCAF fighters shot down about 23 percent of the PLAAF fighters, but the PLAAF numerical superiority and aided by PLAN destroyers firing SAM to the ROCAF fighters negates Taiwan’s advantage in electronic warfare technology. Airpower historians later would describe it as the largest radar missile shootout ever. Soon both sides are now on the visual range, this time dogfighting skill, and maneuverability of the aircraft would play a big role in this knife fight. In a show of superb flying skill by the Taiwanese pilots, The ROCAF dominated the knife fight, but the dogfight was very difficult on both sides because it was nighttime and visual contact even with NVG is still limited. The similarity between the J10 and F16 made it more difficult on both sides to shoot at each other; during the rumble of the ROCAF and PLAAF fighters, as a result some of the fighters were victims of friendly fire. Bright flashes indicating a hit could be seen everywhere, missile shots from the sidewinder and PL-8 was like a shooting stars flying horizontally. The ROCAF eventually won this round, but it was a Pyrric victory some 40 percent of its fighters were shot down. The PLAAF before fleeing did manage to fire some of its cruise missiles heading to Taiwan inflicting only minor damages, because most of the cruise missiles were intercepted by the land based CIWS.

Very interesting, fascinating scenario.

Be careful lang bro when you read news media , and discern the message that they provide (you did a good job by judging their message appropriately, ang quality sa mensahe). The problem bro is that we live in the world, and the world is against the Light of Truth. It will be antagonistic to Truth. So continue to be faithful and we will continue to pray for the change of people's minds in regards to the Lives of the Unborn and the Unchangeable sanctity of innocents , especially the children in their mother's wombs. The Parable of the Lamp Under A Basket

"No man, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar, nor under a basket, but on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light.  The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.   Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness.   If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light."

-Luke 11:33-36

Meaning:

Though some responded well, Jesus was subject to much persecution because he exposed people's sinfulness to the light.

In a dark place, it doesn't take a particularly bright lamp to reveal truth. When it is very dark, even a dim lamp can be seen very far. Why would Christians hide their lamps? To avoid persecution. Christians often compromise in inappropriate ways with the world by covering truth. The world prefers darkness. So some Christians cover their lamps. But Jesus teaches that we shouldn't be so overly concerning to people's reaction to truth.

The Creditor and the Two Debtors

"A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?" Simon answered, "He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most." He said to him, "You have judged correctly."

-Luke 7: 41-43

Meaning

The context is that Jesus was having dinner over Simon the Pharisee's house and a sinful woman barged in to repent of her sins. Jesus forgave her, but also spoke to Simon's condescending way of thinking characteristic of the religious elite. Essentially he ended up creating a balanced view by humiliating Simon and lifting up the sinner. He noted that Simon's demonstration of love was mediocre, not even offering to have Jesus' feet washed when he entered. Washing the feet was a sign of hospitality. The woman immediately upon entering the room recognized this practical need and quickly met it even with her limited resources. In fact she probably had planned to do so before this, taking her expensive perfume with her just for that purpose. This was her sign of repentance. The woman never even asked to be forgiven. For as she had met his need without a word from him. So Jesus met her need without a word from her.

The parable compares two men who owe different amounts of money. These are liken to the woman and Simon. However this is not to say that they actually had different amounts of sin. But rather he was speaking to Simon's self-righteous way of thinking characteristic of the Pharisees, judging primarily by outward appearance. Thus he empathized with Simon, getting into his way of thinking and then analyzed the situation from that perspective.

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who wanted to reconcile accounts with his servants.  When he had begun to reconcile, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.  But because he couldn’t pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.  The servant therefore fell down and kneeled before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!’  The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.  "But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’  "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay you!’  He would not, but went and cast him into prison, until he should pay back that which was due.  So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done.  Then his lord called him in, and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt, because you begged me.  Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’   His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him.  So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds."

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

He spoke this parable. "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, and found none. He said to the vine dresser, ‘Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down. Why does it waste the soil?’ He answered, ‘Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it, and fertilize it. If it bears fruit, fine; but if not, after that, you can cut it down.’"

-Luke 13:6-9

------

Meaning:

The context of this is that people were talking about people who died in disasters and in senseless ways. Jesus says in verse 4,5, "Do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." For those who live comfortable lives, it's easy to presume that it's their own fault that people are subject to misfortune. They must somehow be worst sinners. But throughout the Bible, this has proven to not necessarily be the case. The ultimate counter example will be Jesus' own death. The Jews in particular where characteristically judgmental and hypocrites, considering themselves morally superior.

The subject of this parable is producing fruits of repentance. The particular application is directed towards the Jewish nation which, although some had repented and come to faith in Christ, the majority were hardened in heart. Jesus was doing a take on Isaiah's prophecy mentioned below. The more general application is toward those who are being led through nominalism to true faith in Christ.

Jesus found that his efforts in converting the Jews as a whole to faith in himself was largely unfruitful. And ultimately he would be rejected and killed by them. He was the caretaker of the vineyard. His father was the owner. Despite the barrenness, he intercedes for the Jews, much as Moses had done when God was going to destroy them.

The fruitfulness he was looking for was fruits of repentance, as verse 5 indicates. If a person says he believes, but has no outworkings to his faith, such faith is a dead faith, having no salvific value and being good for nothing. Jesus fertilizes people's faith in a number of ways. To the proud, he'll fertilize with humiliation. To the humble he may provide miraculous signs of healing, so as to affirm their faith. But he always uses his word to edify.

The Parable of Market Place Children

“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places and calling to one another, ‘we played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

1. Parable of the Alert Servants

Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. '''Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come backâ€"whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!''''

In both religions, Judaism and Islam, focus is more placed in righteous works and outward works as means of salvation. Only in Christianity where Salvation is given. Given in Christ. Christ gave Salvation to many -- for those who believe.

Christ came because it was apparent that the Jews were transgressing the Laws and were not completing the Law (note the justice God had dispersed on Israel throughout history).

Salvation in Christianity, in Jesus Christ, is through basis of faith and actually living that faith.

Question: "What is salvation? What is the Christian doctrine of salvation?"

Answer: Salvation is deliverance from danger or suffering. To save is to deliver or protect. The word carries the idea of victory, health, or preservation. Sometimes, the Bible uses the words saved or salvation to refer to temporal, physical deliverance, such as Paul’s deliverance from prison (Philippians 1:19).

More often, the word “salvation” concerns an eternal, spiritual deliverance. When Paul told the Philippian jailer what he must do to be saved, he was referring to the jailer’s eternal destiny (Acts 16:30-31). Jesus equated being saved with entering the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24-25).

What are we saved from? In the Christian doctrine of salvation, we are saved from “wrath,” that is, from God’s judgment of sin (Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:9). Our sin has separated us from God, and the consequence of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Biblical salvation refers to our deliverance from the consequence of sin and therefore involves the removal of sin.

Who does the saving? Only God can remove sin and deliver us from sin’s penalty (2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5).

How does God save? In the Christian doctrine of salvation, God has rescued us through Christ (John 3:17). Specifically, it was Jesus’ death on the cross and subsequent resurrection that achieved our salvation (Romans 5:10; Ephesians 1:7). Scripture is clear that salvation is the gracious, undeserved gift of God (Ephesians 2:5, 8 ) and is only available through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

How do we receive salvation? We are saved by faith. First, we must hear the gospelâ€"the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection (Ephesians 1:13). Then, we must believeâ€"fully trust the Lord Jesus (Romans 1:16). This involves repentance, a changing of mind about sin and Christ (Acts 3:19), and calling on the name of the Lord (Romans 10:9-10, 13).

A definition of the Christian doctrine of salvation would be “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.” Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12) and is dependent on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.

1A. Things One Must Believe in Islam ; Islamic Requirement

“They say: ‘Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (to salvation).’ Say thou: ‘Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with Allah.’ Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we submit to Allah (in Islám).’” S. 2:135-136

“It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces towards East or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and give Zakat (regular charity); to fulfill the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the God fearing.” S. 2:177

“The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. ‘We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His messengers.’ And they say: ‘We hear, and we obey: (we seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys.’” S. 2:285

“O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messenger, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.” S. 4:136

“Be ye foremost (in seeking) Forgiveness from your Lord, and a Garden (of Bliss), the width whereof is as the width of heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His messengers: that is the Grace of Allah, which He bestows on whom He pleases: and Allah is the Lord of Grace abounding.” S. 57:21

1B. Necessity of Believing in Muhammad

“And obey Allah and the Messenger; that ye may obtain mercy.” S. 3:132

“Those are limits set by Allah. those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (for ever) and that will be the supreme achievement. But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein: And they shall have a humiliating punishment.” S. 4:13-14

“O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination.” S. 4:59

“All who obey Allah and the messenger are in the company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah,- of the prophets (who teach), the Sincere (lovers of Truth), the martyrs, and the Righteous (who do good): Ah! How beautiful is there fellowship!”

“He who obeys the Messenger, obeys Allah. But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over them.” S. 4:80

“Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and beware (of evil): if ye do turn back, know ye that it is Our Messenger's duty to proclaim (the message) in the clearest manner.” S. 5:92

“Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” S. 9:29

“The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that he may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, ‘We hear and we obey’: it is such as these that will prosper.” S. 24:51

“Say: ‘Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger.’ But if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger’s duty is only to preach the clear (Message).” S. 24:54

“Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger. When they are with him on a matter requiring collective action, they do not depart until they have asked for his leave; those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask for thy leave, for some business of theirs, give leave to those of them whom thou wilt, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful. Deem not the summons of the Messenger among yourselves like the summons of one of you to another: Allah doth know those of you who slip away under shelter of some excuse: then let those beware who withstand the Messenger’s order, lest some trial befall them, or a grievous chastisement be inflicted on them.” S. 24:62-63

“It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path.” S. 33:36

“Verily those who plight their fealty to thee plight their fealty in truth to Allah; the Hand of Allah is over their hands: then any one who violates his oath, does so to the harm of his own soul, and any one who fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah,- Allah will soon grant him a great Reward.” S. 48:10

“Seest thou not those who were forbidden secret counsels yet revert to that which they were forbidden (to do)? And they hold secret counsels among themselves for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Messenger. And when they come to thee, they salute thee, not as Allah salutes thee, (but in crooked ways): and they say to themselves, ‘Why does not Allah punish us for our words?’ Enough for them is Hell: In it will they burn, and evil is that destination!” S. 58:8 (Cf. S. 58:13)

Salvation in Islam

In Islam there are two ways to get paradise:

1. Your good deeds are weighed against your bad deeds. If you have done enough good deeds when compared to your bad deeds, you will eventually get to paradise, after spending some time burning in the fires of hell.

2. Muslims who die as martyrs defending Islam go directly to paradise.

It is plain to see that in Islam salvation is a result of your works. You may have also noticed that all Muslims, except those who die as martyrs defending Islam, go to hell. This is clearly stated in the Koran, Sura 19, verses 67-68 and 71-72.

(This is Allah speaking through his prophet Mohammed.) "There is not one among you who shall not pass through hell; such is the absolute decree of your Lord. We will deliver those who fear Us, and leave the wrongdoers there, on their knees." (Sura 19:71-72)

This Sura clearly states that everyone goes to hell and that, after some period of time, Allah will deliver those who have done sufficient good deeds from hell, leaving behind those who have not done enough good deeds.

Salvation is through what a Muslim does. It is through human works.

#23676
Answer:

The Torah, the Five Books of Moses, has a commandment not to shave the
corners of the head. [Specifically, Leviticus 19:27 says, "Do not
round the corner of your head."] The Torah also forbids a male Jew
from removing hair from one's sideburns and temple are (known as
pei'ot ha-rosh). Actually, the sideburns merely have to be long enough
that one can pull on the hair, and the beard area can be shaved with
something other than a sharp blade (many people accept the use of
electric shavers). But specifically within the Chassidic community,
there is a custom not to shave (and frequently not even to trim) the
beard, and to permit the sideburn area (all the way up to the top of
the ear) to grow long as well (the long sideburns are called peyot) .
Some tuck the hair up under their kipot/skullcaps, while others curl
the hair. Many Orthodox say the payes (a.k.a. earlocks/sidelocks)
begin right at the temple, to just behind the ear, and must grow no
shorter than the top of the cheekbone. Then they are to be worn pushed
forward of the ear so as to be visible. Many, following Rabbi Nachman,
grow them long because he said he could "pull them by their payess out
of hell" once he was in Paradise!

Another note related to the "not rounding of the corners". This is in
direct relation to the passage about not harvesting the corners of the
field, but leaving it alone for G-d. Finally, in not rounding "the
four corners" of the face, we have a comparison with the tzitzis at
the four corners of the tallit. People forget that the hair, the
harvesting, and the tallit are all mitzvot.

On a practical level, shaving or trimming of the beard is not
permitted on the Sabbath or Holidays, and for a few stretches during
the year [such as portions of the time between Pesach and Shavuos]. A
beardless man will grow days or weeks of stubble, but a bearded man
who doesn't shave or trim his beard during that time will not look
   significantly different.

To be specific, the Law is that one must not use a straight razor
(including safety-razors) on one's temples or to shave one's beard.
Those Jewish men who have wanted to be clean-shaven have had various
options; in the past century, either depilatory powder (ancestor to
   Nair), or electric shavers. Electric shavers (at least most of them;
check with your local Orthodox rabbi for acceptable brands) function
like a scissors: two relatively dull blades pinch off the hair, rather
than one very sharp blade slicing it off.

Chasidim and some others have kabbalistic reasons for growing a beard,
so they will not take advantage of modern technology. Otherwise,
Jewish men having beards have it for other reasons, be they simply "to
look Jewish" or style or whatever.

As for sidelocks, that is a result of a peculiar interpretation of the
law against shaving one's temples. The basic law is that there must
remain enough hair to bend it over with one's fingers; that can be as
little as 1/2 inch or so. Some, notably Hungarian chasidim and
Yemenites, do not cut the sidelocks at all, and they grow very long.
Most chasidim have short sidelocks: thin, 2-3", that they tuck behind
their ears, so you won't see them.

Many who grow long peyos do so for Kabbalistic reasons. One of the
opinions in Kabbalah is that the peyos need to be worn long only until
the beard grows in. Once the beard grows, the peyos of the side of the
head should not be allowed to grow down beyond where the sides of the
   beard begin to appear.

Finally, some Jewish men just don't like to shave.

Salvation- In The Jewish View

"Humankind, created by this one God, is inherently good. There is no original sin, no instinctive evil or fundamental impurity; human beings are made in God's image and are endowed with an intelligence that enables them to choose between good and evil. They need no mediator, such as Christians have in Christ, but approach God directly. All people--Jews and Gentiles alike--attain immortality as the reward of righteous living, although concern for life after death is an issue of minor significance for Jews."

Handbook of Denominations, p.159.

--

Salvation , the concept of salvation, is intrinsically different from the Christian point of view to the Jewish point of View. Jews believe that salvation is a result of righteous living and in following the many Mitzvots (Torahic and Rabbinical) and observing the holy days as promulgated by G_D to Moshe (Moses).

In Judaism, Salvation is not simply by faith, but more so by righteous works and in strict observance of the Law.

Mitzvot D'Rabbanan: Laws Instituted by the Rabbis

In addition to the laws that come directly from Torah (d'oraita), halakhah includes laws that were enacted by the rabbis (d'rabbanan). These rabbinic laws are still referred to as mitzvot (commandments), even though they are not part of the original 613 mitzvot d'oraita. Mitzvot d'rabbanan are considered to be as binding as Torah laws, but there are differences in the way we apply laws that are d'oraita and laws that are d'rabbanan (see below).

Mitzvot d'rabbanan are commonly divided into three categories: gezeirah, takkanah and minhag.

Gezeirah (in Hebrew)A gezeirah is a law instituted by the rabbis to prevent people from accidentally violating a Torah mitzvah. We commonly speak of a gezeirah as a "fence" around the Torah. For example, the Torah commands us not to work on Shabbat, but a gezeirah commands us not to even handle an implement that you would use to perform prohibited work (such as a pencil, money, a hammer), because someone holding the implement might forget that it was Shabbat and perform prohibited work. The word is derived from the root Gimel-Zayin-Reish, meaning to cut off or to separate.

Takkanah (in Hebrew)A takkanah is a rule unrelated to biblical laws that was created by the rabbis for the public welfare. For example, the practice of public Torah readings every Monday and Thursday is a takkanah instituted by Ezra. The "mitzvah" to light candles on Chanukkah, a post-biblical holiday, is also a takkanah. The word is derived from the Hebrew root Tav-Qof-Nun, meaning to fix, to remedy or to repair. It is the same root as in "tikkun olam," repairing the world, or making the world a better place, an important concept in all branches of Judaism.

Some takkanot vary from community to community or from region to region. For example, around the year 1000 C.E., a Rabbeinu Gershom Me'or Ha-Golah instituted a takkanah prohibiting polygyny (multiple wives), a practice clearly permitted by the Torah and the Talmud. This takkanah was accepted by Ashkenazic Jews, who lived in Christian countries where polygyny was not permitted, but was not accepted by Sephardic Jews, who lived in Islamic countries where men were permitted up to four wives.

Mitzvot D'Oraita: Commandments from the Torah

At the heart of halakhah is the unchangeable 613 mitzvot (commandments) that G-d gave to the Jewish people in the Torah (the first five books of the Bible).

Some of the mitzvot d'oraita are clear, explicit commands in the text of the Torah (thou shalt not murder; you shall write words of Torah on the doorposts of your house), others are more implicit (the mitzvah to recite grace after meals, which is inferred from "and you will eat and be satisfied and bless the L-rd your G-d"), and some can only be ascertained by deductive reasoning (that a man shall not commit incest with his daughter, which is deduced from the commandment not to commit incest with his daughter's daughter).

Some of the mitzvot overlap; for example, there is a commandment to rest on Shabbat and a separate commandment not to do work on Shabbat.

Jewish Religion and the Importance of Observing the Halakah (Jewish Laws) for Salvation

Judaism is not just a set of beliefs about G-d, man and the universe. Judaism is a comprehensive way of life, filled with rules and practices that affect every aspect of life: what you do when you wake up in the morning, what you can and cannot eat, what you can and cannot wear, how to groom yourself, how to conduct business, who you can marry, how to observe the holidays and Shabbat, and perhaps most important, how to treat G-d, other people, and animals. This set of rules and practices is known as halakhah.

The word "halakhah" is usually translated as "Jewish Law," although a more literal (and more appropriate) translation might be "the path that one walks." The word is derived from the Hebrew root Hei-Lamed-Kaf, meaning to go, to walk or to travel.

Some non-Jews and non-observant Jews criticize this legalistic aspect of traditional Judaism, saying that it reduces the religion to a set of rituals devoid of spirituality. While there are certainly some Jews who observe halakhah in this way, that is not the intention of halakhah, and it is not even the correct way to observe halakhah.

On the contrary, when properly observed, halakhah increases the spirituality in a person's life, because it turns the most trivial, mundane acts, such as eating and getting dressed, into acts of religious significance. When people write to me and ask how to increase their spirituality or the influence of their religion in their lives, the only answer I can think of is: observe more halakhah. Keep kosher or light Shabbat candles, pray after meals or once or twice a day. When you do these things, you are constantly reminded of your relationship with the Divine, and it becomes an integral part of your entire existence.

Judaism Afterlife and Salvation

Jewish attitudes toward afterlife and salvation reflect a variety of perspectives on what happens to body and soul after death based on various biblical, rabbinic, medieval folklore, and theological sources.

When examining Jewish intellectual sources throughout history, there is clearly a spectrum of opinions regarding death versus the afterlife. In the biblical text of Psalms, there is a description of death, when people go into the earth or the "realm of the dead" and cannot praise God.First reference to resurrection is collective in Ezekiel's vision of the dry bones, when all the Israelites in exile will be resurrected. There is a reference to individual resurrection in the Book of Daniel (165 B.C.E.), the last book of the Hebrew Bible.

During the Second Temple Period, the Sadducees, High Priests, denied any particular existence of individuals after death because it wasn't written in the Torah, while the Pharisees, ancestors of the rabbis, affirmed both bodily resurrection and immortality of the soul, most likely based on the influence of Hellenistic ideas about body and soul and the Pharisaic belief in the Oral Torah. The Pharisees maintained that after death, the soul is connected to God until the messianic era when it is rejoined with the body in the land of Israel at the time of resurrection.

Judaism of the second Temple period (and prior) considered the concept of salvation more national (corporate) than exclusively personal, as modern Christianity views it. The salvation of the individual Jew was connected to the salvation of the entire people. This belief stemmed directly from the teachings of the Torah. The idea of corporate salvation of Israel is reflected in Paul's letter to the Romans, particularly in chapters 9-11.

Although God, in the Torah, taught His people sanctification of the individual, He also expected them to function together (spiritually) and be accountable to one another. This was (and is still today) perceived to be a source of conflict, as it often meant having to "limit" your personal spiritual experience on account of someone else.

The concept of salvation was tied to that of restoration for Israel. It included such ideas as:

   * Rescue from national enemies
   * Restoration of national symbols
   * State of shalom among peoples
   * Inauguration of the age to come
   * Liberation from Rome
   * Restoration of the Temple
   * Free enjoyment of their own land
   * Inauguration of a new covenant between Israel and her God

Some of the Scriptures that testify to these things are: Isaiah 2:1-4; 11:9-10; 27:12; 33:22; 42:1-6; 45:14,23; 49:5-6; 23; 51:4-5; 52:7-10; 54:3; 56:1-8; 60-66; Ezekiel 17; 20:42; 34; 36:9-12; 39:26; 47:13-48; 48:35; Daniel 7; Micah 2:12; 4; 5:10-15; 7:17; Amos 9:11-13; Zechariah 2:11; 8:20-23; 14:1-11; Zephaniah 2:9;10; Joel 3:17.

The Jews of the first century expected to be rescued from foreign dominion. This would occur after they suffered (a purification process) for past breaches of their covenant with God. (See: Deuteronomy 4:32, Isaiah 40:1-2, Jerermiah 31:27-40, Ezekiel 18; 36:24-28, and Hosea 14:2.)

Ideas regarding the Messiah did not have a concensus. The exception to this would be the Qumran community, whose literature has a highly developed sense of Messiah. Even in the Qumran literature however, one can see evolving thought about Messiah. They seem to go from a two-Messiah theory to a belief in a single Messiah as represented by Melchizadek, who resolved the "conflict" of Messiah being both King and Priest. This will be discussed later in this study.

Perhaps the one view of Messiah shared among the groups was that His main task would be directly related to the restoration of Israel. (Hence some of the opinions expressed by the people about Yeshua, in the Gospels.)
