The corruption in our country does not point to GMA alone.

If we review our Bohol news section, we read a kagawad in Carmen who admitted before Capitol's investigation team that he used up Bohol's poverty program fund to finance his election campaign last May. Did GMA instruct the Carmen, Bohol kagawad to do that?

The corruption is already widespread. Many barangay captains and kagawads are corrupt, too. Should they be denied communion too?

Knowledge of theology does not make one special in the eyes of God. The cardinals and bishops who were accused of pedophile (child molestation) are holders of Ph.D. in Divinity.

Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Romans 3:12: "They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." (King James Version).

The Prophet Isaiah, after seeing the glory and holiness of God:

Isaiah 6:1-10 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe [is] me! for I am undone; because I [am] a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, [which] he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid [it] upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here [am] I; send me. And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Even the prophet Isaiah did not claim of being "holier than you" mentality.

Global admins can lock any thread they deem as inappropriate and that it is already heading to a different direction.

Locking a thread is the best solution to prevent the spread of a potential misunderstanding.

Remember the "period" tragedy in TB before? I did not know it. It was too late for me to come and rescue the site. That could have been prevented by locking the thread.

Malversation of funds is now eyed as the Capitol Special Probe Team deepens its investigation into the alleged misuse of money intended for cooperatives of poor farmers.

Funds amounting to P344,000 comprising the 10% deductions from financial assistance to 28 coops; P200,000 for a non-existing training project and another P2-million fund for federation of cooperatives in Eastern Bohol are being separately looked into.

A special panel was created by Gov. Erico B. Aumentado after the media exposed it based on a Commission on Audit report that said funds “were found illegally spent for other use outside its appropriated purposes.”

This is a glaring “technical malversation”, a government accountant said.

Capitol first treated the COA findings as an internal matter but the story was leaked to the The Bohol STANDARD and was made public as an EXCLUSIVE headline story in its March 2, 2008 Sunday issue.

PROBE TEAM

The probe team headed by Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay, with Provincial Accountant Joseth Celocia, Assistant Treasurer Primitiva Ontong, and Human Resource Development Officer Romeo Teruel met again in the morning of March 18, last Tuesday.

Its first preliminary hearing was conducted last March 7.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan board members Josephine Socorro Jumamoy (committee chair on cooperatives) and committee members former Alicia Mayor Bienvenido Molina and lawyer Aster Apalisok-Piollo attended in that Tuesday hearing.

Four vital witnesses were presented in the Tuesday hearing; and three of them said “all the money transactions in the Bohol Poverty Reduction Management Office had the knowledge of office chief Antonietto ‘Boy” Pernia.”

Talk of the Town / Bohol Poverty Program in limbo
March 29, 2008, 04:52:28 AM
Provincial Administrator Tomas Abapo Jr. belied yesterday a newspaper report that the provincial government has given a dole out to the Bohol Farmers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Bofamco).

The alleged “dole out” was exposed by FREEMAN correspondent Ric. V. Obedencio, published by the Bohol STANDARD last Sunday.

Abapo said that the P5 million appropriated for the Bofamco Plant Now, Pay Later Hybrid Rice Seeds Program is a loan without interest.

In fact, the amount will have to be liquidated by Bofamco after the harvest seasons.

The PNPL Project is designed for Bofamco members to produce hybrid rice seeds for distribution to farmers in Bohol in order to give these farmers the opportunity to increase their rice yields.

He said that the records at the Provincial Treasurer’s Office would show that Bofamco has religiously paid the funding of the provincial government which ranges from P1.5 million to P3 million.

In another development, Bofamco Manager Frank Marsamolo said that the alleged bouncing checks paid by the cooperative to the Davao Oriental Seed Producers Cooperative were already settled.

The issuance of the questioned checks, he said, was due to procedural lapses committed by Bofamco treasurer Francisca Oclarit who was then in Manila.

This is where we see the separation of Religion and Jesus Christ himself.

Religion wants to kill by stoning an adulterous woman.
Jesus Christ: "He who is without sin may cast the first stone."

And all the hypocrites walked away, shaking their heads.

hypocisy. what about the hundreds of cases of priests molesting young boys behind the altar?

More fire hydrants for the City, this ups the fire fighting capability of the local fire stations, says Tagbilaran City Fire Marshal Manases Bautista, during the recent Kapihan sa PIA.

This despite only two minor fire alarms in the city since his assumption to office last December, Bautista shared.

But taking pro-active fire measures at the weekly government radio program aired at the DYTR, both city and provincial fire marshals tackled on the Fire Prevention Month and their activities as the month came marching in.

According to Bautista, the city government through Mayor Dan Lim has raised firefighting odds when it recently approved the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) move to put up additional fire hydrants in strategic areas in the city.

“Most of our 12 fire hydrants are located along the CPG avenue and these are the old ones,” Bautista said.

He added that the new fire hydrants would be placed near the Dao-Dampas Central market area and the Island City Mall, near Manga Public Market, at the Taloto area, Pook Pantalan to give access to the port and at CPG east-Mansasa area.

Trinidad - Bohol / Boholana Abducted?
March 28, 2008, 10:26:33 PM
Barely 2 months after the assassination of environmental activist, Ronald Sendrijas on Jan 17, 2008, these usual “unidentified motorcycle- riding men hiding behind bonnets”, are again on a loose when they abducted woman activist, Regina Olayvar, in broad daylight on March 13, 2008 at around 7:00 A.M.

Regina is currently the Vice- chairperson of Hiniusang Makinasudnong Mag- uuma sa Trinidad- Kababayen- an (HIMAMAT-KA), a municipal peasant women organization affiliated to Hugpong sa Mag- uumang Bol- anon (HUMABOL).

The victim, sister- in law- of Bayan- Bohol Chairperson Victor Olayvar who was slain on Sept. 7, 2006 by still unidentified assassins on board motorcycles, was waiting for a “habal habal” along the highway of Brgy. Cabiguhan, to take her to the “demo farm” of Trinidad town here in Bohol, where she is presently employed as a casual worker under the municipal Department of Agrarian. Suddenly, a blue Aura motorcycle with a male

Thinking that it was a “motorcycle-for- hire”, she immediately mounted at the rear of the motorcycle. However, she later on noticed that the driver was taking a different route that was not leading to and already very far away from, the “demo farm”. She started asking questions to the driver and started protesting.

Despite her protest however, the driver along with his lady companion, drove her to a very desolate place which she thought was already a part of another barangay. After disembarking from the motorcycle, the driver and the lady, took turns in asking her questions, regarding the whereabouts of John Ruiz (Bayan Muna- Bohol Provincial Coordinator), Carmelo Tabada and Walter Balonga (Deputy Secretary General of HUMABOL- KMP). Regina then noticed that the two guarded her closely and that the driver carried a clutchbag with a handgun in it.

Aiming for another national peace accolade, Bohol may have a good chance of bagging the 2006 Best Provincial Peace and Order Council award, a ranking police official here in the Visayas said.

National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Regional Director Bernardo Calibo, who accompanied the national team which did the on the spot evaluation and validation last week said the Presidential citation for success in counter-insurgency is enough factor that could boost Bohol’s efforts.

It may be recalled that during the Local Peace and Security Assembly here in Tagbilaran, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo cited the convergence approach on poverty alleviation as a counter-insurgency strategy in Bohol as a national template for anti-rebel operations.

The search however uses implemented peace programs by the council

Bohol once won the 2004 peace plum and a win for2006 would be a morale booster for peace advocates here who have remained enthusiastic about setting the peace tone for progress and development to root.

Now already a finalist in the national search’s province category after topping the regional search. Region 7 on the other hand is also batting to be the country’s over-all regional winner.

Hundreds of Boholanos leave their homeland and seek the greener pasture elsewhere, in the same manner that there are those who come here from different places, and have found home in Bohol. The motivation could be business, the profession, or by affinity. In the case of Dr. Ed Trompeta Escalona (ETE), all three merged. The tri-pronged reason was a beacon light to make him a Boholano.

As a businessman, he is one of two franchise holders of Julie's Bakeshop in Bohol, the other being former Talibon Vice Mayor Robesito Aurestila. This year, he and his wife, Dr. Ligaya Dumadag Escalona, were elevated to the Hall of Fame after being named Outstanding Franchisee of the Year 2007 (also in 2005 and 2006) by the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA).

Dr. Escalona is the incumbent Executive Vice President of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), with some members of the Board wishing he would make the presidency of the Chamber a try, but which he is not very enthusiastic about. He is also with the Lions club and a few other organizations like the Bohol Medical Society; but it is his affiliation with the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) where he displays a personally total involvement. For two years he was its Chapter Head of BCBP-Tagbilaran South, where he made use of his exposure to the corporate world in an organizational leadership and style that left nothing to be desired.

Bohol will host the 28th Annual Celebration of BCBP on April 4-6, 2008. A heavy task was placed on his shoulders, that of spearheading the Ways and Means Committee as Chairman. True to form, he can deliver.

LMP: You are a professional, a businessman and a Christian all at the same time, is there no conflict between business and religion?
ETE: Wala man, Bro. I think it's just a matter of aligning ourselves. I feel that the business world is given to us by God to serve other people and be a blessing at the same time. Usa pa, even if you earn millions, there must always be a percentage to be given back to God.

LMP: As a Doctor and a businessman, is there no conflict of interest?
ETE: If your priority is money and success, there will definitely be conflict of interest. But if your priority is doing God's will, wala gyuy conflict.

LMP: Did you have this attitude before you join BCBP, o namugna lang ni because of BCBP?
ETE: It's not really totally BCBP; you mature through the years. It's just that BCBP gave me the proper environment on how to become a better individual.

LMP: When you first ventured into partnership with Julie's, nagsugod na ba na nga concern? Or, was your first motive on how to make your business grow?
ETE: Before, the first concern was money. But later on, I realized that there are things that can't be equated with money. Like labor… how you got the business, and how you worked for it. It's knowing that this is one form of service that gets you going.

LMP: Right now, unsa man ang gi-prioritize nimo, your profession or your business?
ETE: Pareho ra siguro, Bro. Right now, since I'm already 50, I could say that I'm more concerned with the mission and vision of BCBP.

LMP: How about your family?
ETE: With my children, I always teach them the importance of serving God and be significant to the lives of other people.

LMP: When you became a Doctor, did you also think of becoming a businessman?
ETE: No. The only reason I wanted to become a Doctor was to be rich. But later on, there were things I encountered nga naka-engganyo nako to enter the business world. And realize money is not everything.

LMP: Were you an original member pag-abot gyud diri sa BCBP?
ETE: No. Second batch na ko. BCBP came here sa Bohol in 1991, I joined in 1992.

LMP: What was the reason you joined BCBP?
ETE: Being a Doctor, I felt like a God. Surgeon pa gyod ko. Lahi ra man gud sa uban nga field. On my part, kon operahan nako ang pasyente, mora'g naa sa akong mga kamot ang decision if that person will live or die. Until later I realized the limits of my humanity. Aduna naman goy mga casualties. There were some cases nga wala na koy mahimo. It's not about negligence, naa lang gyoy mawala.

There were times nga I felt like I was not in control anymore. But it's just a part of growing up. BCBP is a very good arm in evangelizing me, and the others.

LMP: When you entered BCBP, pila na imong anak?
ETE: Duha na.

LMP: After joining BCBP, were your outlook and attitude changed?
ETE: Yes. Especially with regards to discipline, and realizing the fact that I'm not in control of everything.

LMP: What other organizations are you a member of?
ETE: Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lions Club and member of the Bohol Medical Society.

LMP: One of the trend karon is mag-Doctor, then mag-Nurse. Did you ever think of that aron molangyaw?
ETE: Yes. In fact, nag-start pod ko ug eskwela because of that. But, I lost focus because I was already with BCBP. Later on, upon reflecting, I realized that it was not the right direction.

LMP: Karong panahuna, naa pa ba gihapon ang huna-huna nga mo-abroad?
ETE: Wala na. Muadto na lang para mag-bakasyon, dili mag-trabaho. My home is here.

LMP: What is your focus now?
ETE: Ang legacy nga ikahatg nako sa mga bata. After mahuman ang mga bata, rest na, passive income na lang siguro.

LMP: Do you feel blessed nga you're a Doctor, and you married another Doctor? Because in the Philippine setting, once a Doctor marries another Doctor, they are financially stable.
ETE: Sa akong experience, if you are lucky enough, you can be a millionaire at the age of 60.

LMP: In Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, can you say nga naabot na nimo ang self- actualization?
ETE: I'm still on the way. I just go with the flow of what God wants in my life.

LMP: What is the upcoming National Convention of BCBP for? What can the participants get out of it?
ETE: It's actually a realization that we are not a small community. We all are doing this one to attain the mission and vision of the organization.

LMP: Let's go to the Be Honest campaign of BCBP. Based on what you have achieved, can you say that you are 101 percent successful?
ETE: No. To achieve the vision and mission of the organization, you really have to be honest and even live by example.

LMP: Do you not find it hard to be honest all the time?
ETE: I don't want to be brutally honest to the point nga insulting na ba. Being a good Christian is a hard struggle. Daghan ka ug mga butang nga gusto himuon but then you would remember nga this is not the way it is done as a good Christian. Aduna gyud ginagmay nga mga reservations.

LMP: So, as far as your future is concerned, what is your projection?
ETE: As a Doctor, mora'g semi-retired na ko. As a businessman, karon, I want to move forward, to be significant and share my blessings to others. As a Christian, to live by example. Pwede ni sila tanan magduyog without conflict.

LMP: What is your guide in life from the very beginning nga imong nasubay hangtod karon?
ETE: Think God all the time. If there are some things nga mora'g nagduha-duha ka, put yourself in God's shoes and ask if ikaw ni Lord, what will you do? At the end of the day, review what you have done; ask what is to be done the next day. You'll never be sure, but later on, makita nimo ang consequences sa imong devotion.

Godliness in the market place, that's Dr. Ed Escalona's obsession. He knows the pitfalls of the crusade, but there's no holding him back. He is totally convinced that profit is not the only objective in practicing a profession and doing business.

His voice is not anymore a voice in the wilderness, for there are many now who believe in corporate social responsibility. These concerned businessmen and professionals know their priorities, while acknowledging that when God does not will it, nothing happens.

For a more stable management, the Marine Fishery and Aquatic Resource Management Council (MFARMC) called the nine coastal barangay captains here for a reorganizational meeting on March 17 to discuss the primary concern on conservation of marine and aquatic products that benefit the fisherfolk and the other organisms that find niche in them.

Gerry Araneta, the Municipal Planning and Development Council (MPDC) officer explained to the coastal barangay captains, with Marine Protective Areas (MPAs) in their respective jurisdictions, to reaffirm their commitments for the conservation and protection of marine life that the Local Government Unit (LGU) headed by Mayor Exuperio Lloren strongly supports.

In this town, 14 out of 33 barangays stretch along the coastal areas.

Earlier, the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) passed an ordinance adopting the MPA that would brace its implementation to manifest the local administration's total cooperation for the program.

Bohol Latest News / Low-cost drying tool for farmers
March 28, 2008, 10:01:32 PM
To arrest the moisture content factor in the poor quality of rice grains, the Bureau of Post-harvest, Research and Extension (BPRE) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) has provided farmers with access to low-cost drying technology that utilizes a mechanical dryer equipped with rice hull-fed furnace.

The drying equipment costs about 30-50% lower than the conventional dryer of the same capacity.

This is in consideration that rice grain quality greatly affects its buying price, and unfavorable climatic conditions during harvest season often leads to improper or delayed drying of grains, resulting to poor quality rice and reduced income.

It has been observed that the existing drying facilities in the country today, cannot meet the drying requirements of the farmers.

World Daily News / Secret Agents Shot Dead
March 28, 2008, 09:45:23 PM
Two Pakistani intelligence agents involved in tracking al-Qaeda suspects have been shot dead in the southern port city of Karachi, police say.

Inspector Mohammad Ibrahim and his deputy, Fazlur Rahman, were employees of Pakistan's main civilian spy agency.

The men were attacked late on Thursday at a car showroom in a commercial area.

Pakistan's main cities are routinely the scene of attacks by Islamist militants opposed to Islamabad's support for the US-led "war on terror".

The teeming city of Karachi also frequently witnesses clashes between the supporters of rival sectarian and political groups.

Former head of the Bohol Poverty Reduction Management Office (BPRMO), now Carmen Municipal Councilor Primo Digao, admitted before the probe team Tuesday last week that he had used P140,000 from the P200,000 shortage that BPRMO had incurred as unaccounted funds.

Digao admitted he used the P140,000 to finance his campaign activities for last year's May elections. He landed at seventh slot in Carmen's set of municipal councilors.

This corroborated the earlier testimony of BPRMO special disbursing officer Patricia Limboy during the preliminary meeting of the probe team on March 7, that part of the amount representing the P200,000 shortage in the fund entrusted to her was withdrawn by Digao shortly before he retired, hinting that it was the money used to finance his campaign.

The March 18 hearing was the probe team's first interaction with Digao as one of the resource persons in the P2-million coop fund mess, following the preliminary meeting on March 7.

Before the start of the hearing, Digao asked the probe team to close the meeting from media.

Limboy and Digao issued statements supported with notes, but failed to show any receipt nor signatures- -a stance that had already been denied by the Commission on Audit (COA).

Governor Erico Aumentado created the team to investigate on the alleged loss of cooperative funds amounting to more than P2 million, BPRMO fund shortage of P200,000 and anomalous 10-percent cut on the provincial government's assistance to coops.

Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay chairs the probe team, while the members are HRMDO Acting Head Romeo Teruel Assistant Provincial Treasurer Primitiva Ontong and Provincial Accountant Joseth Celocia.

This is to ensure that the suspects this time will really be prosecuted, unlike what happened in the celebrated case in Ubay in the past wherein the packs of suspected shabu recovered from suspects that constituted among the pieces of evidence turned out to be just starch when examined at the crime laboratory.

On Maundy Thursday, the police team led by Talibon Police Chief Domino Pelicio recovered packs of suspected shabu from one Jovelito Curimo, a 40-year-old resident of the island barangay Bilang-bilang in Bien Unido.

Is it because Boholanos are famous or notorious?

Living or dead, the province of Bohol has its own share of famous personalities. If one cannot argue against success, then the title of the most famous Boholano went to former President Carlos P. Garcia, fourth chief executive of the Philippine republic.

Bohol's history is also rich with the colorful exploits of local heroes. Speaking of spectacular conquests, what comes to mind were the venerable names of Dagohoy, Tamblot and Sikatuna. etc.

The current brouhaha over the broadband project of the Arroyo administration produced a cast of characters belonging to the Boholano race.

Although their participation was far from being complimentary to the illustrious bloodline, their role in the controversial project appeared to have tarnished the image of the Boholanos as a proud people.

As of last count at, least four Boholanos were linked one way or the other to the unfolding drama brought about by the NBN-ZTE transaction.

Bohol Latest News / MIAA will handle Panglao Airport
March 27, 2008, 10:39:38 PM

Bohol Sunday Post (on print)

Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado's latest meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was a huge success - it ironed out the last kink in the implementation of the Panglao Bohol International Airport Development Project (PBIADP).

Aumentado said President Arroyo was largely responsible for the immediate release of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Memorandum Circular designating the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) as the lead implementing agency of the PBIADP.

Signed by DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza, the circular was addressed to MIAA and all the officials and personnel of DOTC-Central Office, sectoral offices and attached agencies and corporations.

It said in view of the fact that the implementation of the PBIADP is a priority project of the present administration, and in order to effectively carry out the said project in a smooth and timely manner, the MIAA, as principal funder of the project, is hereby authorized to pursue the same and is designated as the lead implementing agency thereof.

The trial has opened in France of a man accused of being among the country's worst serial killers in decades.

Michel Fourniret, 65, is charged with murdering seven girls and women in France and Belgium. He is also charged with raping some of them.

His wife, accused of helping lure women into a car, is separately charged with complicity in murder and kidnapping.

Mr Fourniret, dubbed the "Ogre of the Ardennes", is accused of carrying out the murders between 1987 and 2001.

The charges against Mr Fourniret relate to six murders in France and one in Belgium. His alleged victims ranged in age between 12 and 22 years.

'Confessions'

Mr Fourniret appeared in court in the northern French town of Charleville-Mezieres alongside his wife, Monique Olivier.

When the judge asked him to identify himself, he held up a piece of paper on which was written: "My lips are sealed if there is no closed-door hearing."

A key figure in the 2004 rape-slay in Panglao town has implicated Ex-Mayor Doloreich Dumaluan as the brains behind the crime.

A self-confessed participant in the celebrated 2004 rape-slay of the teenage girl pointed to the former Panglao mayor as the mastermind to the crime that shocked the once-peaceful tourist town.

In response to the confession, formal charges were filed against Dumaluan and three others in connection with the rape and killing of Vivian Dumaluan in Barangay Bolod, Panglao before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor (OPP) of Bohol last March 18.

Aside from the former mayor, also named in the complaint were his brother, Teofredo alias Pingmay, Narciso Maghamil and Romeo Lapinig. Pingmay was said to be the employer of the victim.

Maghamil, who was the only one originally charged in connection with the case, is already detained at the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center while the mayor's brother was named respondent in an information docketed as no. 07-5016 which is still awaiting resolution by the OPP.

Ex-mayor Dumaluan has denied the accusation, saying the charge is nothing but frame-up and fabrication motivated by political interest.

Miami Heat will face the New Jersey Nets in a pre-season game at London's O2 Arena, the NBA has confirmed.

Last year, a sell-out crowd filled the O2 Arena to watch Boston Celtics defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 92-81.

And on 12 October the venue will host another pre-season game, this time between the Heat and the Nets.

The match will form part of the four-game NBA Europe Live tour that will also visit the cities of Paris, Berlin and Barcelona.

"Our third consecutive year of the NBA Europe Live is another step in our ongoing efforts to bring the excitement of the NBA to our loyal and passionate fans across Europe," said NBA commissioner David Stern.

Earlier in the year, the NBA revealed that it hoped to establish a franchise in Europe within a decade.

Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer resigned last week following his indictment in a commercial sex scandal.

Spitzer was involved in a case of soliciting for sex with a commercial sex hawker in a Washington DC hotel. In most American states sex hawking is a crime and those who aid and abet the practice are liable to jail sentence on conviction.

The evidence against Spitzer was so overwhelming that the one-time Attorney-general of New York didn't wait to be forced to resign from his exalted office. The deputy governor, Mr. David Paterson has since been sworn in as New York's governor.

March 27, 2008, 08:31:46 PM
A US state department review has found that the passport files of several high-profile Americans have been accessed, the Associated Press reports.

It comes a week after revelations that workers improperly viewed the files of the three presidential candidates.

Other Americans whose files had been viewed since January 2007 included late Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith, AP reports, citing unnamed officials.

AP says the review is not complete and the number of cases is not yet clear.

State department officials told AP the review involved several hundred US citizens whose passport files are flagged for extra protection because of their prominence.

These people include politicians, entertainers and athletes. Accessing their files triggers an automatic record that it has been viewed.

Dr Andrew Wakefield, along with two colleagues, is charged with serious professional misconduct.

His research paper, published in the Lancet in 1998 but since disowned by the journal, sparked widespread fears that the MMR triple jab was unsafe.

The current hearing focuses on alleged irregularities in his research methods.

One of the campaigners supporting Dr Wakefield was Nina Lteif, 37, whose six-year-old twin boys have autism.

Ms Lteif, from Surrey, said: "There has been a witch-hunt against him, when all he was trying to do was help people.

General Topic / Threats of Rice Shortage
March 27, 2008, 03:29:09 PM
The threats of a rice shortage in the country should be a motivation for farmers.

Bohol Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera said that while he personally believes that the threat is still premature, it should be reason enough for the people to take it seriously.

“There is still no cause for alarm but this does not mean we will not give it serious concern,” Herrera said.

The vice-governor noted that there have been conflicting signals from government agencies and non-government institutions on the real status of the country’s supply of rice.

In recent days, the Department of Agriculture (DA) issued a statement assuring that the country’s rice supply is sufficient.

The statement came in the wake of fears that there is a looming rice shortage in the country.

Herrera said personally he feels the fears of a rice shortage are premature saying it has not gone down to alarming levels.

The vice-governor however stressed that this should be enough motivation for the agriculture sector to increase production.

“This should be a wake-up,” he added.

Herrera said there is no need to debate on whether the shortage is real or not because that would be counter-productive.

Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay denied the Bohol Standard report last Sunday that “Anomaly stinks on Capitol uniform allowance.”

The news story was written by FREEMAN correspondent Ric. V. Obedencio (a Capitol employee).

Lagunay, chair of the Committee on Uniform, said that the report is highly speculative and is based on wrong information.

He said the uniform allowance is intended for the uniform of the provincial government personnel, and therefore, a uniform must have to be instituted for the proper discipline, representation and personality of the personnel.

He said per instruction of the governor, there must be bidding on who could supply the uniform with the Bohol logo for the personnel for which the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) published in the Sunday Post issue of March 9 this year, and set the bidding schedule on April 4.

The provincial legal officer also categorically stated that the Bohol Povincial Employees League (Bopel) and the Bohol Association of Women in Government Service (Bawigs) have no legal personality to enter into contract involving government funds and personnel.

He said under the Local Government Code, only the governor is authorized to enter into a contract on behalf of the provincial government.

He said the governor has to stop the illegal practice of some Bopel and Bawigs officials in the past in the matter of acquiring the uniform of the provincial government personnel without the appropriate public bidding.

Lagunay disclosed that the governor agreed to the request of Bopel and Bawigs leaders through the Uniform Committee that only three uniforms for each employee shall be bid out in order that the remaining amount for the fourth uniform shall be used by them to buy shoes to complement their office uniform.

It’s now the words of three people against the embattled BPRMO head.

The three included disbursing officer Patricia T. Limboy, former coop federation secretary Rommel Macalolot and former BPRMO head and now Carmen councilor Primo Digao.

They all pinpointed to Pernia, “citing command responsibility” being its head, as having knowledge to all withdrawals and money movement inside BPRMO.

Pernia has denied such allegations.

As Jesus approached Jerusalem for the last time, He sent two disciples into the city to bring Him a donkey. He told them, “If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it’” (Luke 19:31).

As we approach our sunset years, we may ask ourselves, “Can I still be useful to God? Is there some service I can render that will fill my days with significance? Am I needed?”

Of course you are! God needs you just as He needed the donkey to carry Him through the streets of Jerusalem. He has always needed something or someone to get His work done. He still has useful work for you to do.

Perhaps your work will be one brief task, like the donkey’s single act of service. Or it may be some activity that will fully occupy your years until your Master calls you home. It may be an opportunity to share your faith with someone, to intercede for him, or to love him through quiet acts of mercy, friendly visits, or to extend some small courtesy. There will always be something for you to do.

In the meantime, you and I must stand and wait, preparing ourselves through prayer, Bible reading, and quiet listeningâ€"ready for the moment that our Lord has need of us.

Will you be ready when He needs you?  â€" David H. Roper

Inspiration & Hope / Few people can afford a mansion
March 27, 2008, 08:19:28 AM
A professional athlete built a palatial eight-bedroom home where he lives by himself. His secluded house includes a movie theater, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a five-car garage.

The athlete told The New York Times that he doesn’t view the $8 million estate as a monument to success. Instead, he considers it to be a sanctuary from his painful childhood memories of poverty and abuse. The young man is seeking something much deeper than luxury and entertainment. “Got to get my peace,” he said.

All of us know the feeling of being overwhelmed. When the present is daunting and the past is haunting, where can we turn for release? To whom do we go for comfort and peace?

The psalmist wrote: “Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually” (Ps. 71:2-3). God was his hope, his trust, and his hiding place in the storms of life (vv.5-8).

E. May Grimes’ poem captures that biblical theme.

A little sanctuary art Thou to me;
O Jesus Christ, beloved, I live with Thee;
My heart has found its everlasting home,
Its sure abiding place where’er I roam.

Few people can afford a mansion, but everyone who knows the Lord can find refuge and peace in His abiding presence.  â€" David C. McCasland
A little sanctuary art Thou to me;
O Jesus Christ, beloved, I live with Thee;
My heart has found its everlasting home,
Its sure abiding place where’er I roam.

When we put our problems in God’s hands, He puts His peace in our hearts.

Bible Study / There are no degrees of honesty
March 27, 2008, 08:16:43 AM
Ask the friends and families of six people buried in a collapsed subway tunnel about complete honesty. Their loved ones’ rescue was delayed for hours when the contractor didn’t report the disaster to the authorities immediately. Instead, the company sealed the site and confiscated cell phones. It wasn’t an outright lie, but it was a cover-up. This dishonest act showed disregard for life.

In the book of Acts, God gave us a sobering example of how He views dishonesty (4:32â€"5:11). Some believers had sold their land and shared all the proceeds with the church. Ananias and Sapphira decided to do likewise. But the couple kept some money back despite declaring that they had given the whole amount. Expecting commendation, they were struck dead instead.

Was their punishment too harsh? After all, their “slight” lie wasn’t life-threatening. “Whoever falsely boasts of giving is like clouds and wind without rain,” warns Proverbs 25:14. The apostle Peter asked Ananias, “Why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit?” (Acts 5:3), adding, “You have not lied to men, but to God” (v.4).

If we are completely honest with ourselves, can we say that we are completely honest before God  â€" Albert Lee

Lord, by Your Spirit grant that we
In word and deed may honest be;
All falsehood we would cast asideâ€"
From You, O Lord, we cannot hide.  â€"D. De Haan

Prolonged exposure to baby milk powder increases the risk of breathing problems, including wheezing and breathlessness, a study has found.

It looked at 170 Thai factory workers who made the powder, but the team from University of Birmingham says the risk could also apply to nannies.

Mothers and babies are safe, because they have relatively little exposure.

But the study, published in the European Respiratory Journal, says at-risk workers should be monitored.

It is already known that consuming milk powder can lead to the development of an allergy if a child has an intolerance to cow's milk but the potential risks of inhaling milk powder have never before been studied.

In this research, a team from the Institute of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Birmingham and Thailand's Mahidol University looked at just under 170 workers in a Thai baby milk factory.

The factory had high hygiene standards, and concentrations of milk powder dust were relatively low.

The majority - 130 - were directly involved in manufacturing and packaging baby milk. Another 22 were responsible for adding vitamins to the milk and 15 were quality controllers.

Technology / White Space Wi-Fi
March 25, 2008, 10:40:38 PM
Google is pressing the US government to allow the unlicensed frequencies of TV "white space" to be used for wi-fi.

The firm has written an open letter to regulators saying the US spectrum was a "once in a lifetime opportunity".

White space is unused blocks of frequencies in-between channels broadcast on analogue airwaves.

"The vast majority of viable spectrum in this country simply goes unused, or else is grossly underutilised," wrote Google's Richard Whitt in the letter.

"Unlike other natural resources, there is no benefit to allowing this spectrum to lie fallow," he added.

Google has said the white space could be used to bring "ubiquitous wireless broadband access to all Americans".

Philippine Business News / Volcano Found in Bohol
March 25, 2008, 09:57:28 PM
Published by the Bohol Chronicle

There is a rare geological formation in Bohol - said to be the only one in the country but not part of the mystifying Chocolate Hills - which could be one of only two or few of their kind on the planet: The Ilihan hill.

Located in Tubigon town, Ilihan hill is monstrously huge "solid molten lava" believed to be thrown from the mouth of a now sunken dead volcano some 30 million years ago, according to Mayor Luna Piezas quoting the "finding" of a group from stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The world - or planet Earth - is about 4.5 billion years old.

The volcano must have been sunken somewhere between Bohol and Cebu, the mayor said, or Bohol and Leyte.

The experts, accompanied by a UNESCO staff from Tubigon, recently visited the mayor at his office and conveyed to him their discovery.

Piezas said in a Chronicle exclusive that the group told him the geological formation and evolution of the Ilihan hill is entirely different from those of the world-renowned Chocolate Hills in Carmen.

UNESCO just organized a global search for "New Seven Wonders of Nature" ranking the Chocolate Hills among the top 77 nominees.

Piezas said the UNESCO group that surprised him with the rarity of the hill in his town just conducted a technical visit to the Chocolate Hills before they intentionally went to Ilihan.

The group told the mayor that Ilihan hill is a plug, a massive cylindrical formation of solidified lava that once blocked the vent of a volcano. It is also technically called a volcanic neck.

The hill has since been covered with trees and other vegetations, and even inhabited by "tribe-like" people often described as a "cult" for their ways and norms as haunting as the supposed origin of their hill dwelling.

UNESCO experts told the mayor that the only other known plug similar to that in Tubigon is found in Brazil.

The hill totally formed by solidified molten lava rises in this place on earth where no volcano has ever existed - not even an extinct one has ever been known.

Ilihan's volcanic rock appearance will be most emphasized once the hill is totally stripped of its foliage or vegetation, the mayor was further told.

In a national park and preserve in Alaska is found the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes which entrance is guarded by two solidified lava formations, but which look rocky and not green.

The Tubigon mayor wished to know more if Ilihan evolution as sluggish, thicker lava moving slowly to the surface of a mid-ocean shield volcano after less-violent blasts.

Jesus’ most memorable story, The Prodigal Son, ends with a banquet scene, featuring as its hero a good-for-nothing who has soiled the family reputation. Those judged undesirable by everyone elseâ€"like the prodigal sonâ€"are infinitely desirable to God. When one of them turns to God, a party breaks out (Luke 15:22-24).

In the Old Testament, levitical laws guarded against contagion. Among the things that would contaminate a person were contact with certain animals, carcasses, or the sick. But Jesus reversed the process. Rather than becoming contaminated by what was unclean, He made the unclean whole.

I sense in Jesus a fulfillment, not an abolition, of the Old Testament laws. God had hallowed creation by separating the sacred from the profane, the clean from the unclean. Jesus did not cancel out this hallowing principle; rather He changed its source.

Because of God’s great grace, we can be agents of His holiness, for He now dwells within us. We can seek, as Jesus did, for ways to be a source of holiness. The sick and the maimed are not hot spots of contamination but potential reservoirs of God’s mercy. We are called to extend that mercy, to be conveyers of grace, not avoiders of contagion. Like Jesus, we can help make the “unclean” clean.  â€" Philip Yancey

For Further Study

According to Philippians 2:14, how should we “do all things”? What is the result for us, and what does that mean for our world? (v.15).

No one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

The Ombudsman finds no probable cause to withdraw graft and corruption charges it has filed at the Sandiganbayan against Board Member Josil Trabajo and former Carmen Mayor Pedro Budiongan.

This ruling was contained in a resolution by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) after a motion for reconsideration was filed by Trabajo and Budiongan at the anti-graft body last February 18, 2008.

If found guilty of the graft charges, Trabajo and Budiongan could be sentenced a 12 to 20-year imprisonment.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Valeriano Nadala Sr., Domingo Painagan and Renato Delgado Sr. against the former Carmen officials on November 2003 for violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and illegal quarrying.

The complainants accused Budiongan and Trabajo, then the town's mayor and vice mayor, for taking advantage of their positions and conniving to extract quarry materials in a protected area and selling the same to the municipal government out of its local funds.

The former Carmen officials undertook a road improvement project "with their common purpose of having a financial interest in the project," the complainants said.

In their motion for reconsideration, the two former Carmen officials both denied the charges.

Budiongan claimed he was already a businessman of good standing even before he became vice mayor and later mayor.

Trabajo is currently serving a 90-day suspension from the provincial board for a criminal case also decided by the Sandiganbayan and is temporarily out on bail. He said in his counter affidavit that he did not intervene in his official capacity for the municipality of Carmen to buy quarry materials (anapog) from him.

Associaition of Barangay Councils (ABC)-Dauis head Ephraim Bomediano was sworn in by no less than Pres.Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at Malacanang on Friday. But Mayor Luciano Bongalos is firm not to officially recognize him as the legitimate municipal ABC head.

The main case to annul the supposed league resolution disqualifying Bomediano's lone contender, barangay captain Felix Milallos of Dao, has not been resolved by the court, the mayor said.

The conflict deepened when Bongalos ordered not to pay Bomediano his March salary since the former could not recognize the latter to be the duly-elected ABC head.

The mayor formally told Vice Mayor Jimmy Jimenez he could not acknowledge Bomediano as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) either.

The local chief executive has also not released the municipal aid to the ABC.

Bomediano joined other ABC heads nationwide in the mass oath-taking before Arroyo at the Palace's Heroes Hall timed with their national assembly.

The Supreme Court en banc issued a status quo order on Tuesday preventing the execution of a Comelec en banc resolution directing Albur Mayor Jose Ugdoracion to vacate his post.

The Comelec en banc upheld the ruling of its First Division that disqualified Ugdoracion from being a candidate for mayor during the May 14, 2007 election.

A writ of execution was issued on March 6, 2008 ordering the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to implement its ruling.

The Supreme Court's order came five days after Ugdoracion filed an urgent motion for the issuance of an injunctive writ requiring the Comelec to observe status quo.

In its order, the high tribunal notified the Comelec to "refrain from implementing [its] resolutions and writ until further orders" from the Supreme Court.

Dear Belle,

I don't immediately react to any kind of situation. I gather my thoughts first, separate the chaff from the wheat, then I write.

I have written my public comment on your letter, now I am writing a private comment.

First, I was completely unaware of any friction that was going on between you and (deleted). With the demand of my work and studies, it is almost impossible for me to follow thousands of posts every day. That if no one would notify me of anything that has gone wrong, I would not know it immediately.

Second, your letter shocked me and it created a horrifying impact to thousands of TB visitors. It left the rest of our TB friends wondering, creating anxiety, and imprinting sadness in the hearts and minds of our friends. So I wrote you an open letter with reference to "building a tower."

There is much confusion since there was nothing in the resignation letter that explained the true reason why you wrote it.

We cannot read people's minds.

We cannot assume that people are aware of what was going on between you and (deleted).

Even I, who is online in TB on most hours of the day and night, was not aware of the untold conflict. It is therefore expected that the rest of us, except for Hazel, are left wondering, asking, confused, puzzled.

There are so many questions but there are no answers.

Since you wrote your resignation letter, I notice a significant drop of site visitors to TB and many members are no longer logging in TB.

Probably they were thinking I hurt you or I did something wrong to you, so you left.

You haven been entrusted to be one of the global admins and to lose a global admin via an open resignation letter has created so many assumptions - and many of these assumptions were targeted on me because people have no idea about your true sentiment toward (deleted).

My principle on life is that I would never walk away from a good fight or a good cause. If I were in your shoes, I will confront (deleted) in public and let the public decide who is doing the right thing. I will rather do it this way than leaving people wondering, asking, confused, puzzled. It's like breaking up a girlfriend, walking away from a date in a restaurant, and the girl is left crying, wondering, asking, confused, puzzled why her boyfriend broke her up.

I have learned many things about how Jesus handled conflict and relationship. When Jesus disagreed with Peter's suggestion of not dying, HE rebuked Peter by saying: "Get behind me, Satan." When Jesus was disappointed of His disciples' faith, He told them: "O, you of little faith." When Jesus pointed out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, He called them: "You sons of vipers."

Jesus made things clear what He thought of His disciples and to His critics. What could have happened if Jesus just returned to heaven without dying because of His disappointment with Peter and the rest of the disciples who had little faith? That would leave His disciples and the rest of the world wondering, asking, confused, puzzled until now.

Belle, remember, Jesus never walked away from a good fight. If He sensed something was wrong, He made things clear to His disciples and to the public.

Welcome back,
Mike

A little girl fights for her life, and her last wish is to see her father. But that wish may not come true.

"They didn't expect her to still be here. She's fighting, day by day, minute by minute," said Vonda Yaeger, mother.

10/11 has followed the story of 10-year-old Jayci Yaeger as she battled brain tumors. Now doctors say she is about to lose that fight. Her last wish is to spend what time she has left with her father, but he is in a federal prison for drug charges.

Less than six months ago, Jayci was energetic, fun and upbeat. Now she's just a shadow of what she used to be -- lying in a hospital bed.

Jayci has brain tumors and doctors say she's dying.

"What doctors say? They say there's nothing they can do for her. The tumors are growing and hemorrhaging, and right now nothing they can do for her, just keep her comfortable," Vonda Yaeger said.

In less than two months, cancer turned an energetic little girl into someone those who know her hardly recognize. During the fight, her family has been hopeful, but now reality is setting in.

"It's really hard to say it, but it's time now and she doesn't need to suffer anymore. She needs to be where she can be peaceful and happy and not in pain," Yaeger said.

There's one more thing Yaeger said her daughter needs -- her father, Jason. But he's in federal prison in South Dakota and has been denied repeated attempts to grant him a 30-day release.

"She expressed many times that she misses him, and he talks to her on the phone now and she cries. That's the only time I see her cry," Yaeger said.

In fact, Yaeger said the need to see her father is the only thing keeping Jayci going.

"I think she understands. She knows what the outcome is going to be. She's very scared, and I think she's holding on for her father," Yaeger said.

Roy Carlson Jr. says hair gel saved his life.

That was one of the first fleeting thoughts the St. Paul taxi driver had as he struggled with the 15-year-old girl who, seconds earlier, had slashed his throat and stabbed him repeatedly after a cab ride gone awry early Tuesday.

After the girl tried to stiff him on a $22 cab fare following a ride across St. Paul, the frustrated driver for Diamond Cab Co. was driving her to a St. Paul police precinct for violating curfew.

"All of the sudden I hear her scream in the background, 'I'm not going to jail!' and she pulled my hair back and started to cut my throat," he said Wednesday. "I had styling cream in my hair, and it slipped out of her hands."

Bible Study / What is to wait?
March 20, 2008, 08:20:39 AM
Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! â€"Psalm 27:14

In Cantonese, a Chinese dialect, the word for wait sounds like the word for class. Making a pun on this word, some senior folks in Hong Kong identify themselves as “third-class citizens,” which also means “people of three waits.” They wait for their children to return home from work late at night. They wait for the morning sun to dispel their sleepless nights. And with a sigh of resignation, they wait for death.

In the Bible, the word wait is more an attitude than an activity. To “wait on the Lord” is to trust Him. Psalm 27 is David’s exuberant declaration of faith in God. He sees the Lord as his salvation (v.1). In times of danger, he knows for certain that God will hide him (v.5). He remembers that God has asked him to seek His face, so he asks God not to hide from him. For, like a child, he longs to see God’s approving face (vv.8-10). In his darkest moments, David declares: “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (v.13).

Though no one knows how life will unfold, we can decide to trust God and to focus our mind on Him. For to those who wait on the Lord, the promise is given: Our heart will be strengthened (v.14).  â€" Albert Lee

Bible Study / To-Do List Today
March 20, 2008, 08:14:54 AM
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. â€"Galatians 5:22

What’s on your to-do list today? Cleaning out an overstuffed closet? Calculating a financial report at work? Paying your monthly bills?

We all have things we need to get done today, whether we’ve written them down or not. They’re important for us to accomplish.

While a to-do list is helpful, another type of list is even more valuable: a “to be” list. Albert Einstein said, “Try not to become a man of success but rather to become a man of value.”

The apostle Paul encouraged the Galatian believers, and now tells us, to be concerned with our character. He said that if we’re controlled by the Holy Spirit, God will produce in us the characteristics of “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (5:22-23).

As you look at those character traits, which are you needing most in your life? More patience with a co-worker or a child? A little more gentleness and kindness toward a neighbor? As you draw near to God, He will enable you to be the person He wants you to be.

Perhaps at the top of your to-do list today you could put: Spend time praying and reading God’s Word. That would be a good start in helping with your “to be” list.  â€" Anne Cetas

Zel, after ang babae dug-on, moubos iyang hemoglobin. Unya it takes weeks before mosaka napud ang hemoglobin. Inig saka sa hemoglobin, dug-on naman pud, so moubos na pud.

Mao ang hospital magmug-ot basta you bring a blood donor who is a woman. Kabalo man sila nga ma-reject ra gihapon.

I had gone through all the pains and sorrows with sleepless nights and missed meals of finding a blood donor. I am speaking from my experience and I have read all the policies and guidelines on donating blood based on Philippine context.

I was even surprised learning that 90 - 95 percent of women are unsuitable as blood donors. This is where the supremacy of men comes in terms of saving someone's life. Why unsuitable? 1. Low hemoglobin 2. The monthly cycle
#13279
If one says NO, then he or she lies, and when Red Cross or the Hospital conducting the blood test finds it out, your blood will automatically be rejected.

Donating blood is not a walk in the park. There are several tests to be conducted before the final blood suction is done. Hospitals or the Red Cross don't want to waste time and resources going through these stages of tests, if, beforehand, they know or see that the blood donor candidate has a tattoo.

Besides, conducting a blood test up to blood suction will cost almost P3,000 and if the donor's blood does not match the patient's, the one who requested for blood testing will still pay the P3,000 fee.

That's why the hospital wants to eliminate all the hassle (it takes 8 to 12 hours or more of blood screening, testing before blood suction), let alone the financial burden of the patient, by immediately rejecting a person with a tattoo no matter how small it is or when it was made.

The hospital is aware that a person with a tattoo is more or less unsuitable as blood donor. This policy is embraced by all hospitals in the Philippines. I don't know with hospitals abroad if they apply the same guideline.
#13280
Zel, based on my experience during my father's hospitalization, a hospital, during the pre-screening test, will only ask one question: "Do you have a tatoo?"

A yes answer is automatic rejection as potential blood donor.

General Topic / Why Tattoo Can Kill Your Loved One
March 19, 2008, 09:08:13 PM
Having a tattoo could result to death.

Why? Hospitals/Red Cross will never accept a blood donor with a tattoo.

Think of your father, or mother, or your own child in need of a blood at a critical moment of his or her life and you are the only person who is supposed to be the qualified blood donor but because of your tattoo, you can never donate your blood to a dying loved one.

Three Boholano overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) died in a tragedy, or of suspected foul play and treacherous ailment in their foreign job sites in less than a month, or exactly in just 27 days.

Their untimely deaths would tell those who yet dream of migrating that greener pastures abroad for
comfort in life back home could at times reward them early ticket to the graveyard.

The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) under its president, Kagawad Faro Cabalit, says Tagbilaran is not a "crime city" as projected by the local media.

City Kagawad Faro Cabalit, city ABC president led the barangay captains in denouncing media reports saying that the city is a crime city. The stand of the barangay officials came to project that the city remains to be a peaceful place to stay.

However, a day after issuing such statement, the city's barangay captains discussed of buying firearms to arm themselves.

The discussion raised a contradicting stand as far as the peace and order condition in the city is concerned.

"While saying that the city is not a crime city, yet, they want the barangay captains to be armed," such was a glaring contradiction, says a radio listener who joined a random survey conducted by dyRD's "Inyong Alagad" program last Thursday.

The radio survey registered a high rating of 93 percent against the move to arm barangay captains.

The Year of the Rat spells “bad moon rising” for many women, particularly those living with passionate, jealous husbands.

The other day, a 25-year old wife was stabbed to death by a jealous husband in Sitio 4, Barangay Poblacion, Dagohoy, Bohol after a heated quarrel over alleged “another man.”

The victim was identified as Jean Curit, married to the suspect Jaime Go, 28 years old.

The police are now preparing a parricide case against the husband-suspect.

A Taiwanese man hired an erotic dancer to perform at his 103-year-old father’s funeral.

The stripper danced in front of Cai Jinlai’s coffin for more than ten minutes at the funeral in Taizhong town. Son, Cai Ruigong, paid her more than £80 to dance in memory of his late father.

Cai Ruigong says he promised his father a stripper for his funeral if he lived beyond the age of 100. Cai Jinlai passed away at the age of 103 after a three mile walk into town to vote. He was the oldest person in his village and had more than 100 descendants. His son said his father was famous locally for his interest in strip clubs: “He would travel around the island with his friends to see these shows,” he added. ananova

Love Talk / Women Favor Dark Men?
March 18, 2008, 12:33:08 PM
Gentlemen do not just prefer blondes, but lighter-skinned women in general, a study has suggested.

Scientists looking into attractiveness in men and woman suggest that men from all races find fairer-skinned woman most alluring, while women are the polar opposite and favour darker, brooding men.

They said the attraction is driven by preferences based on moral assumptions.

Men are subconsciously attracted to fairer-skinned icons such as Nicole Kidman or Kylie Minogue because of the skin tone's association with innocence, purity, modesty, virginity, vulnerability and goodness.

Women, on the other hand, pick men with darker complexions - such as film stars Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell or Jamie Foxx - because these are associated with sex, virility, mystery, villainy and danger.

The latter two actors were paired together in the recent Miami Vice movie, which topped the box office on both sides of the Atlantic despite lukewarm reviews.

Academics at the University of Toronto in Canada say their study proves the fair maiden of myth has a basis in scientific reality.

Bible Study / Absolutely nothing. No light. No sky
March 18, 2008, 08:16:13 AM
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. â€"Genesis 1:1

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No light. No sky. No land. It’s incomprehensible to our finite thinkingâ€"the barren nothingness that existed before Genesis 1:1.

Then suddenly, through the work of the Almighty, God supplanted nothingness with “the heavens and the earth.” The divine hand reached through the void and produced a place, a world, a universe. Through the magnificent convergence of the workings of the Godheadâ€"with the Son enacting the will of the Father as the Agent of creation, and the Holy Spirit as the hovering Presenceâ€"nothing became something. History began its long march toward today.

The first verse of Genesis provides us with sufficient concepts to contemplate for a lifetime. That introductory statement speaks of enough glory, enough majesty, enough awe to leave us speechless before God. Just as today we would have no life, no breath, no existence without His sustaining action, neither would we have the cosmos without His mighty act at the moment of creation.

In awe we wonder what went on before “the beginning.” With breathless praise we marvel at the words “God created the heavens and the earth.” We readâ€"and we stand in adoration. “Nothing” has never been so fascinating!  â€" Dave Branon - www.rbc.org

Inspiration & Hope / Jumping to Wrong Conclusions
March 18, 2008, 08:06:39 AM
If you hear someone . . . saying, “Corrupt men have gone out from among you and enticed the inhabitants,” . . . then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. â€"Deut. 13:12-14

In April 2006, a stuntman tried to jump from the top of the Empire State Building. At the last minute, authorities restrained him and charged him with reckless endangerment. After a judge had looked carefully at all the facts, he dismissed the charges, noting that the accused had taken steps to ensure the safety of others. With a parachute strapped to his back, Jeb Corliss had safely made 3,000 previous jumps, including leaps from the 1,483-foot Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the Eiffel Tower.

As extreme as Corliss’ sport is, it is safer than the kind of leap that almost took place in Joshua 22. Israel had just engaged in a 7-year conquest of Canaan. Suddenly, an alarming rumor raised the possibility of civil war. Word spread that the families who settled east of the Jordan River had built an idolatrous altar (v.10).

A national catastrophe was averted that day, only because someone took time to investigate the facts and listen to both sides of the issue (vv.16-29). A terrible, costly misunderstanding was avoided. The wisdom of God was honored (v.31). Our loving Lord taught His people that the cost of listening is not nearly as great as the cost of jumping to wrong conclusions.  â€" Mart De Haan - www.rbc.org

"Nothing soothes pain like the touch of a person". - Bobby Fischer, the world's greatest chess player of all time.

My father, who was wreathing in so much pain after his major operation in Cebu Velez, asked me to hold his hand, and I, sitting by his bedside, held his hand for hours as my eyes were flooded with tears.

Today I read the biography of Bobby Fischer. His last words before he died in Iceland on January 17, 2008 were: "Nothing soothes pain like the touch of a person".

Now I understand why my father, in the most painful hour of his life, had asked me to hold his hand, something that he had never ever uttered to me or to anyone of us, his family.

Thank you, Bobby Fischer, for giving me a lifetime wisdom. Your words will always be inscribed in my heart as long as I live and as long as I hold dearly the living memory of my father.
