The office of the Ombudsman has let the ax fall on yet another key political ally of President Aquino.
In separate decisions that may alter the political landscape in Mindanao in the 2016 general elections, the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal from service of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno for allegedly approving a P2.6-million tax break of a private firm without the approval of the city council.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales also approved the dismissal of two other mayorsâ€"Vicente Fernandez of Matanao, Davao del Sur, and Mamintal Adiong of Ditsa-an Ramain, Lanao del Sur, as well as 27 other local officials in connection with administrative cases brought against them.

COA finds P923M in idle disaster funds

CALAMITY funds in the hundreds of millions coursed through a Department of National Defense (DND) agency in charge of disaster management have been sitting idle in a bank for years, according to the Commission on Audit (COA).
In its 2014 annual report released recently, the COA criticized the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for the “very low” utilization rate of quick relief funds (QRF) and donations intended for disaster victims.
State auditors said the unused QRF allocated to the OCD had ballooned to P923 million as of the end of last year.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of social networking site Facebook, may be world’s youngest self-made billionaire according to Forbes in its recent list of billionaires. Forbes estimates Zuckerberg’s net worth at $1.5 billion which puts him at #785 on the list.

Left school for Silicon Valley later in 2004; scored initial $500,000 investment from PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel. Venture firms soon swooned, among them Accel Partners and Greylock Partners.

Today Facebook boasts 66 million active users. Estimated annual sales: $150 million. Expanding beyond being a college-only message system and photo album; now courting users to 55,000 different high school, business and city networks. Microsoft bought 1.6% stake for $240 million last October; deal led many to suggest the company is worth $15 billion. {source}

Of course that $1.5 billion estimate was based on the Microsoft’s 1.6% buyout, but until Facebook goes public or gets bought, we’ll never really know if this geeky boy-genius will become the 21st century posterchild for Silicon Valley.

When Goliath defeats David
Bedo Salada

Hapit naman diay ang away ni Pacquiao.  Murag di basta basta ni nga away ni Manny kontra Antonio Margarito.  Murag akoy gikuyawan ni Manny.

Margarito is probably the tallest, strongest and the heaviest fighter Manny will be facing at 154 lbs come Nov. 13th (14 in the Philippines) in Texas.  The Tijuana tornado fighter from Mexico is known as an aggressive and heavy puncher may pull an upset victory against our very own Manny Pacquiao. Some are saying that team Pacquiao and Manny himself is bound to lose in this fight.  The tale of the tape in terms of size, reach and height are with Margarito's advantage.

After being banned and stripped of his boxing license in California for an alledged illegal hand wrapped, Margarito is motivated to prove everybody that he is not a cheater in the square ring.  Having once defeated Miguel Cotto and fought Shane Mosley, Margarito is not an ordinary fighter after all.   He is also tasked to knock-out the greatest fighter from the Philippines by his fellow mexican fighters in the likes of  Marco Antonio Barrera, (Oscar dela Hoya), Erik Morales, Jorge Solis,  Emmanuel Lucero and many others.  If he can pull an upset, he will be the first Mexican to dethrone the greatest and seven weight division champion.

Manny's last fight at the Dallas cowboy stadium was not that convincing when the Ghana fighter was just standing all night with his water tight defense  and was economical in throwing punches.  And when he did, he even caught Manny with some clean counter shots.  Margarito is the opposite of Joshua Clottey who likes to pressure his opponent always.  Imagine a bigger guy on a constant pressure with a smaller fighter will probably make a difference.    With just three weeks to go, Manny is still in the Philippines whose training is disrupted with typhoon Juan.  His dard core fans wants him exported a-s-a-p to the Wild Card Gym in Las Vegas.

Anyways, will Manny make us proud once again?  Will the speed and power of Manny dominates a taller and heavy puncher this time ?  His fans hope so,  otherwise the (biblical) history when David defeated mighty Goliath maybe written in the news headline after Nov. 13  as  "When Goliath actually defeated congressman David".   :'(

Hinaut unta dili.   Ingon pa ni Manny, "Let's see the scattered"  (translation: tan-awon nato ang katag mga sano).  joke ;D

Kinsay makig pusta diha ?   ;D

Fore and happy weekend everyone.

If the boxers stay on course this Saturday night in Puerto Rico should a night of fireworks as all four combatants in the two main fights are willing to put on a show any time they step into the ring and even if the champions Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez and Nonito “The Flilipino Flash” Donarie are favorite the challenger are looking to spoil their plans.
“If should be a great fight because we both come to fight and I know how strong and tough Bernabe Concepcion is. I will not underestimate him. I worked very hard to get to this level and I will never take anything for granted,” Lopez, said yesterday during the final press conference in Puerto Rico.

Lopez will defend his WBO featherweight championship against Bernabe Concepcion this Saturday night in the Coliseo of Puerto Rico and Donaire will defended his WBA Interim super flyweight crown against Hernan “Tyson” Marquez in a big doubleheader to be telecast live by Showtime in the United States.

“I am honored to fighting a great champion like Juan Manuel Lopez in his home, but I have come to win and take the title back to the Philippines. This is the most important fight of my career and I have prepared like never before for this fight,” Concepcion said.

Donaire who is a two-time world champion is a big favorite over Marquez.

“I know that Marquez is coming off a loss and that makes him very dangerous as he will try to get back on the winning track. He is a strong guy and I will have to fight him smart. I expect him to come at me and I will be ready for him,” Donaire said.

Marquez a 21 year old prospect wil be fighting for a world title for the first time in his career.

“This opportunity came to me from nowhere and I took it, because I know I can win this fight. Donaire is a great boxer, but I believe that I not only that I can compete with him but defeat him as I will do everything in my power to take the belt home with me on Saturday night,” Marquez, said.

The weigh-in will be on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Verdanza hotel in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico.

It was different, though, was everything else. When Woods made his way from the practice  green to the tee, a roar went up before he was even visible. Another roar came when he arrived on the tee, only this time, he turned in each direction and smiled -- an expression that seemed a mixture of gratitude and relief.

It's far too early to tell what the sequence meant for Woods in his first round, in his quest for a fifth green jacket, or more generally, in his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus' 18 major championships. But it did say plenty about how golf feels about having him back.

Tiger Woods answers questions for the first time since scandal
Golfdigest.com

Tiger Woods hadn't answered questions until Sunday night about his infidelity.
From combined reports
March 21, 2010
A contrite Tiger Woods took questions from reporters in two separate interviews on Sunday, acknowledging that his public image differed drastically from a private life of marital misconduct.

"I was living a life of a lie, I really was," Woods told ESPN's Tom Rinaldi, in an interview that aired Sunday evening. "And I was doing a lot of things ... that hurt a lot of people. And stripping away denial and rationalization you start coming to the truth of who you really are and that can be very ugly. But then again, when you face it and you start conquering it and you start living up to it, the strength that I feel now ... I've never felt that type of strength.

After announcing that he would end his extended hiatus from competitive golf at the Masters in two weeks, Woods conducted separate interviews with ESPN and Golf Channel at Isleworth, the golf club near his home on Windermere, Fla. While neither outlet was restricted on questions, both were given a five-minute time limit.

While declining to answer questions about the specifics of the Nov. 27 auto accident that triggered the series of revelations about Woods' extramarital affairs, Woods did admit to damaging his relationship with everyone from his wife to sponsors to fans. In both private and family counseling, Woods said, "It was really tough to look at yourself in a light you never want to look at yourself, that's pretty brutal."

"I hurt a lot of people, not just my wife," he told Rinaldi on Sunday. "My friends, my colleagues, the public, kids who looked up to me. There were a lot of people that thought I was a different person and my actions were not according to that. That's why I had to apologize. I was so sorry for what I had done."

In his Golf Channel interview with Kelly Tilghman, Woods denied that members of his inner circle were complicit in arranging his affairs.

"It was all me. I'm the one who did it. I'm the one who acted the way I acted. No one knew what was going on when it was going on," Woods said. "I'm sure if more people would have known in my inner circle, they would have stopped it or tried to put a stop to it. But I kept it all to myself."

Following the interview, Tilghman reported that Ari Fleischer, the one-time White House spokesman for George W. Bush, had withdrawn his services as a public-relation consultant to Woods because he had become too much of a distraction.

Woods has not competed since winning the Australian Masters last November. He said he didn't know what to expect when he returns at Augusta National, where he has won four green jackets.

"I'm a little nervous about that to be honest with you," Woods told ESPN. "It would be nice to hear a couple claps here and there."

Workplace & Productivity / IT -> Learn SAP

It's guaranted and the demand is high from the outsourcing industry, to the manufacturing industry and consulting firms worldwide.

FROM START-UP SOFTWARE VENDOR TO GLOBAL MARKET LEADER

Over the course of three decades, SAP has evolved from a small, regional enterprise into a world-class international company. Today, SAP is the global market leader in collaborative, inter-enterprise business solutions. The company now employs more than 39,300 people, whose commitment and innovative spirit pace our future success.

The 1970s: A Real-Time Vision

In 1972, five former IBM employees â€" Dietmar Hopp, Hans-Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, Klaus Tschira, and Claus Wellenreuther â€" launch a company called Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing in Mannheim, Germany. Their vision: to develop standard application software for real-time business processing. One year later, the first financial accounting software is complete, forming the basis for the continuous development of other software components in what later came to be known as the “R/1 system.” “R” stands for real-time data processing. By the end of the decade, intensive examination of SAP’s IBM database and dialog control system leads to the birth of SAP R/2.

The 1980s: Rapid Growth

SAP moves into the company’s first building on Max-Planck-Strasse in an industrial park in Walldorf, near Heidelberg. Our software development area and its 50 terminals are all now under one roof. Fifty of the 100 largest German industrial firms are already SAP customers. The SAP R/2 system attains the high level of stability of the previous generation of programs. Keeping in mind its multinational customers, SAP designs SAP R/2 to handle different languages and currencies. With this and other innovations in SAP R/2, SAP sees rapid growth.By the middle of the decade, SAP founds its first sales organization outside Germany, in Austria. The company makes its first appearance at the CeBIT computer fair in Hanover, Germany. Revenues reach DM 100 million (around $52 million), earlier than expected. In August 1988, SAP GmbH becomes SAP AG. Starting on November 4, 1.2 million shares are listed on the Frankfurt and Stuttgart stock exchanges. Germany’s renowned business journal, manager magazine, names SAP its Company of the Year â€" a distinction we would receive twice more in the next few years. With the founding of subsidiaries in Denmark, Sweden, Italy, and the United States, SAP’s international expansion takes a leap forward.

The 1990s: A New Approach to Software and Solutions

SAP R/3 is unleashed on the market. The client-server concept, uniform appearance of graphical interfaces, consistent use of relational databases, and the ability to run on computers from different vendors meets with overwhelming approval. With SAP R/3, SAP ushers in a new generation of enterprise software â€" from mainframe computing to the three-tier architecture of database, application, and user interface. To this day, the client-server architecture is the standard in business software. A growing number of subsidiaries are managed out of Walldorf. The new Sales and Development Center in Walldorf officially opens it doors. It symbolizes the global success of the company. In our twentieth year, our business outside Germany exceeds 50 percent of total sales for the first time.By 1996, the company has earned 1,089 new SAP R/3 customers. At the end of the year, SAP R/3 has been installed in more than 9,000 systems worldwide.SAP celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary in 1997 and now employs approximately 12,900 people. We continue to strengthen our industry focus and build more and more industry-specific solutions. Henning Kagermann becomes Co-Chairman and CEO of SAP AG with Hasso Plattner. On August 3, 1998, the letters S-A-P appear for the first time on the Big Board at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the largest stock exchange in the world. As the decade draws to a close, Hasso Plattner, Co-Founder, Co-Chairman, and CEO announces the mySAP.com strategy, heralding the beginning of a new direction for the company and our product portfolio. mySAP.com links e-commerce solutions to existing ERP applications, using state-of-the-art Web technology.

The 2000s: Innovation for the New Millennium

With the Internet, the user becomes the focus of software applications. SAP develops SAP Workplace and paves the way for the idea of an enterprise portal and role-specific access to information.Currently, more than 12 million users work each day with SAP solutions. There are now 121,000 installations worldwide, more than 1,500 SAP partners, over 25 industry-specific business solutions, and more than 41,200 customers in 120 countries. SAP is the world’s third-largest independent software vendor.

Upon arrival in Texas, General Pacquiao and his chief adviser, lovely wife Jinkee (Top Rank Photo/Chris Farina)

Top Rank Photo (Chris Farina) Looks like Pacman the person and Pacman the dog...may go...all the way!

GRAPEVINEâ€"That's actually where the world record breaking Manny Pacquiao Entourage, which makes the old Muhammad Ali carnival troupe look like a ragtag and smallish assembly, has landed.

Megamanny, gorgeous wife Jinkee, Pacman the dog and 139 of Manny's closest (?) friends and associates all came to Texas for his Saturday night bout against Joshua Clottey at Cowboys Stadium over in Arlington (said to be a 20 minute ride away).

After the charter flight, organized by the efficient Canadian Michael Koncz and his various helpers, Team Pacquiao was suitably ensconced in the lavish Gaylord Texan Hotel , which has a huge atrium and is a microcosm of the state complete with a rendering of The Alamo.

Gaylord is the official hotel of Jerry Jones' storied NFL franchise which is commonly referred to as “America's Team.” Guess you could properly call the Pacman troops “Philippines' Team.”

I don't think the Philadelphia Eagles game traveling party runs as deep as Pacman's crew does. Btw, don't think Uncle Bob Arum pays the freight, not to mention the room service and bar tabs, for all these people. The entire bill is eventually paid by Pacquiao.

Suffice to say Pacman shirts and Pinoy flags are seen all over the Gaylord. The crowd is mixed in Manny's group, you basically have two kinds of people, Filipinos and Fil-Ams meaning Filipino-Americans.

Top Rank Photo (Chris Farina) Looks like Pacman the person and Pacman the dog...may go...all the way!

I'm not sure if wife Jinkee is Manny's best friend or if little canine Pacman is but, just to be on the safe side, he brought them both to this, his last bout before the crucial May 10 Congressional election in Sarangani province.

Pacquiao is 0-1 in runs for elective office in his homeland and his foe this time is billionaire Roy Chiongbian who comes from a politically connected family.

I bumped into one of Pacman's 140 near my room. Now I don't want Floyd Mayweather, who claims to own and operate something a recording label/music management firm tastefully called Philthy Rich, but Pacman brought his vocal coach, Helen Buscema, along.

Upon arrival in Texas, General Pacquiao and his chief adviser, lovely wife Jinkee (Top Rank Photo/Chris Farina)

Buscema hooked up with Manny at Christ The King Church, not far from Freddie Roach;s Wild Card Gym, where she is the church cantor.

Can Manny really sing, I asked, and if he can't, who would have the nerve to tell him?

In two Jimmy Kimmel appearances, Manny has crooned two love songs.

“Manny has singing talent,” Buscema said. “He really does. My frustration is getting his time and attention for lessons. I am lucky to get bits of him, 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there because he has so many other demands on his time.”

Maybe Manny and Floyd can add a karaoke competition to that one on one basketball game between them that people keep suggesting.

Let's see who can deliver “My Way” in a more pleasing way, I say.

Have I lost my musical mind, I ask myself.

I just looked back at my now proper dateline.

The song must be the old Motown classic, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

Pacific under tsunami threat after massive 8.8 quake strikes Chile

February 27, 2010 9:48 a.m. EST

A major bridge connecting northern and southern Chile was damaged in Saturday's earthquake.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

NEW: Hawaii plans evacuations; U.S. West Coast, Alaska under tsunami watch
NEW: Quake is 1,000 times stronger than the one in Haiti
NEW: Dozens of aftershocks, one of magnitude 6.9, shake Chile
78 believed killed; death toll expected to rise

(CNN) -- A massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake rocked Chile early Saturday, killing at least 78 people and triggering tsunami warnings for the entire Pacific basin. Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said she expected the death toll to rise.  "We are taking all the necessary measures at this time," she told reporters.

Officials did not give any information on the number of those injured. The full extent of the damage was not yet known, although there were reports of collapsed buildings and hundreds of people in the streets. The capital of Santiago lost electricity and basic services including water and telephones. Bachelet said regional hospitals had suffered damage; some were evacuated. A major bridge connecting northern and southern Chile was rendered inoperable, and the Santiago airport was shut down for at least the next 24 hours.

Chilean television showed buildings in tatters in Concepcion, with whole sides torn off. At least two buildings there were engulfed in flames, and roads in the city were broken up, video showed.

Congratulations to paisano Nonito Donaire for knocking-out Manual Vargas of Mexico.

Sad our boy from Talibon (Ciso "Kid Terrible" Morales) lost to veteran Fernando Montiel of Mexico yesterday in Las Vegas.

http://www.fightnewsextra.com/cc/2010stories/02-pinoypowerlatinfury.htm

Ciso desist

In the 12-round co-main, Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel, of Los Mochis, Mexico, showed the Filipino-favoring fans that he still has it, by folding his formerly-undefeated Pinoy foe to the floor with a ripping body shot.

Though undefeated, Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales was largely untested before getting his shot at the pound-for-pound powerhouse Montiel, his minor Oriental belts somehow tiptoeing his name into contention.

Montiel, however, sent Morales back into the minor leagues for a season or two. Countering off his opponent’s jab, Montiel backed Morales against the ropes, then hurled a hook downstairs, a right up top, and, for a grand finale, finished the Filipino with a solar plexus hook that dropped Morales to the floor for the ten-count, and then some.

Clutching his battered bread basket, Morales was counted out by referee Robert Byrd at 2:06.

“I knew I had to get inside of his long jab,” said Montiel. “When I did that, I hit him with the left, and a right just before that. I didn’t think he was going to get up.”

Montiel, now 40-2-2, 30 KOs, is looking for bigger paydays at bantamweight, possibly against Donaire or in unifying two of the four major belts against WBC champ Hozumi Hasagawa.

Suffering his first loss, Morales drops to 14-1, 8 KOs.

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"A wet towel left lying on the floor led to the downfall on Monday of one of the country’s most wanted fugitives.

Convinced on seeing the black towel that their quarry was just around, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation peered into a stockroom and, with the beam of a flashlight, saw a pile of mannequinsâ€"and a tattooed arm.

“Come out of there, Jason Ivler. We are from the NBI,” NBI officer Angelito Magno shouted. But the man acted “like Rambo” and answered him with bursts of gunfire.

Two months after he went into hiding, the 27-year-old Ivlerâ€"an American charged with murder for the killing of a motoristâ€"was captured by his hunters while hiding in his mother’s home at Blue Ridge A

MANILA, Philippines â€" Call it a premonition, but Press Secretary Cerge Remonde has made peace with the Lord the night before his death.

In a status message he posted on his account in the popular social networking Facebook, Remonde thanked the Lord for His “infinite love that meets our every need and provides all the beautiful and wonderful things we experience in life.”

“Fill us with your peace as we learn to fully trust in your providence. Help us to do all that we are capable and the rest, we entrust unto you,” he further wrote.

He wrote the message at about 6:51p.m. Monday. He died at around 11:51a.m. the following day.

Several messages of condolence were immediately posted by his friends, colleagues, and people close to him on Facebook.

“May you rest in peace now, Cerge. Thanks for al the stories and jokes that I leaned from you. I will forever treasure the friendship. Farewell and goodbye to you my friend,” one said.

“It was nice to have spent a good afternoon with you yesterday (Monday). I did not know that your call at 11 p.m. last night was your last. I will treasure the friendship for always,” another wrote.

The danger of online social networking.

SAN FRANCISCOâ€"An annual security report released Tuesday by technology titan Cisco warns that banks and online social networks are prime targets for increasingly sophisticated cyber crooks.

"Criminals have been taking note of the large crowds in social-networking sites. They steal them with various techniques," said Cisco security researcher Scott Olechowski.

Tactics used to get into social-networking profiles include hacking password databases at vulnerable online services and then exploiting the fact that many people use one password for multiple accounts.

Cisco estimates that a Koobface computer worm, named as a play on social networking hot spot "Facebook," has infected more than three million computers since it first appeared in 2008.

LGU Philippines / Who wants to be a Philippine Senator ?

Sharing with you this article circulated via email lately.   Read on.
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

GUSTO KONG MAGING SENADOR NG PILIPINAS

ANG SARAP MAGING SENADOR!

Miriam Defensor Santiago was featured in Correspondents last week.

There's food for everybody 'ika nga!

Health and Food / Can Lack of Sleep Kill You ?
November 26, 2009, 10:44:12 AM

A month ago, many of us heard about the sad demise of Ranjan Das (above) from Bandra, Mumbai. Ranjan, just 42 years of age, was the CEO of SAP-Indian Subcontinent, the youngest CEO of an MNC in India . He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner. It was common to see him run on Bandra's Carter Road . Just after Diwali, on 21st Oct, he returned home from his gym after a workout, collapsed with a massive heart attack and died. He is survived by his wife and two very young kids.

It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India . However, it was even more disastrous for runners amongst us. Since Ranjan was an avid marathoner ( in Feb 09, he ran Chennai Marathon at the same time some of us were running Pondicherry Marathon 180 km away ), the question came as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumb to heart attack at 42 years of age.

Was it the stress?

A couple of you called me asking about the reasons. While Ranjan had mentioned that he faced a lot of stress, that is a common element in most of our lives. We used to think that by being fit, one can conquer the bad effects of stress. So I doubted if the cause was stress.

The Real Reason

However, everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to make do with 4-5 hours of sleep. This is an earlier in
terview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program 'Boss' Day Out': Boss' Day Out: Ranjan Das of SAP India.

Here he himself admits that he would love to get more sleep ( and that he was not proud of his ability to manage without sleep, contrary to what others extolled ).

Hi,

Medyo super busy in the next six (6) months due to an IT system upgrade project.  Pa quickie quickie lang sa ko diri.  Anyway, just want to share this with you for (Philippine residents only).  Can you verify if this works in your area?

Fore !

Type via ur cellphone SMS the ff. :

LTO<space>VEHICLE<space>XXX000  and send to 2600

Example: LTO VEHICLE GBB666

It would give the ff. details of your car.

Car Plate:
Model:
Year:
Color:
Date of Last Registered:
LTO Apprehension: if any
LTO Alarm: if any

If there is a problem in CHECKPOINTS, just show this text message to the police officer in charge.

This text message from 2600 is also very important when buying an old and very cheap used car.

This will also be useful when you are following a car with a doubtful car plate no.

And lastly, when you register your car at any LTO Office try to check this out whether your car is genuinely registered or a tampered or fake OR was issued to you by an unscrupulous LTO employee or fixer.

Health and Food / Raising Your HDL Levels
October 23, 2009, 12:44:46 PM

By Richard N. Fogoros, M.D.,
About.com
Updated: September 15, 2009

HDL cholesterol, or "good" cholesterol, appears to scour the walls of blood vessels, cleaning out excess cholesterol. It then carries that excess cholesterol -- which otherwise might have been used to make the "plaques" that cause coronary artery disease -- back to the liver for processing. So when we measure a person's HDL cholesterol level, we seem to be measuring how vigorously his or her blood vessels are being "scrubbed" free of cholesterol.

HDL levels below 40 mg/dL result in an increased risk of coronary atery disease, even in people whose total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels are normal. HDL levels between 40 and 60 mg/dL are considered "normal." However, HDL levels greater than 60 mg/dL may actually protect people from heart disease. Indeed, for several years, doctors have known that when it comes to HDL levels, the higher the better. Click here for a quick review of cholesterol and triglycerides.

How can We Increase Our HDL Levels?

Aerobic exercise.   Many people don't like to hear it, but regular aerobic exercise (any exercise, such as walking, jogging or bike riding, that raises your heart rate for 20 to 30 minutes at a time) may be the most effective way to increase HDL levels. Recent evidence suggests that the duration of exercise, rather than the intensity, is the more important factor in raising HDL choleserol. But any aerobic exercise helps.

Lose weight. Obesity results not only in increased LDL cholesterol, but also in reduced HDL cholesterol. If you are overweight, reducing your weight should increase your HDL levels. This is especially important if your excess weight is stored in your abdominal area; your waist-to-hip ratio is particularly important in determining whether you ought to concentrate on weight loss.

Stop smoking.   If you smoke, giving up tobacco will result in an increase in HDL levels. (This is the only advantage I can think of that smokers have over non-smokers -- it gives them something else to do that will raise their HDL.)

Cut out the trans fatty acids.  Trans fatty acids are currently present in many of your favorite prepared foods -- anything in which the nutrition label reads "partially hydrogenated vegetable oils" -- so eliminating them from the diet is not a trivial task. But trans fatty acids not only increase LDL cholesterol levels, they also reduce HDL cholesterol levels. Removing them from your diet will almost certainly result in a measurable increase in HDL levels. Click here for a quick and easy review of trans fatty acids and the heart.

Alcohol. With apologies to the American Heart Association, which discourages doctors from telling their patients about the advantages of alcohol: one or two drinks per day can significantly increase HDL levels. More than one or two drinks per day, one hastens to add, can lead to substantial health problems including heart failure -- and there are individuals who will develop such problems even when limiting their alcohol intake to one or two drinks per day. Click here for a quick and easy review of alcohol and the heart.

Increase the monounsaturated fats in your diet. Monounsaturated fats such as canola oil, avocado oil, or olive oil and in the fats found in peanut butter can increase HDL cholesterol levels without increasing the total cholesterol.

Add soluble fiber to your diet. Soluble fibers are found in oats, fruits, vegetables, and legumes, and result in both a reduction in LDL cholesterol and an increase HDL cholesterol. For best results, at least two servings a day should be used.

Other dietary means to increasing HDL. Cranberry juice has been shown to increase HDL levels. Fish and other foods containing omega-3 fatty acids can also increase HDL levels. In postmenopausal women (but not, apparently, in men or pre-menopausal women) calcium supplementation can increase HDL levels.

PBA fan files raps vs Arboleda, Yee
(The Philippine Star) Updated October 23, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Businessman Alain Katigbac yesterday filed physical injuries charges against PBA players Wynne Arboleda and Mark Yee of Burger King for beating him up during the Burger King-Smart Gilas game last Friday.

In his nine-page affidavit-complaint before Quezon City assistant prosecutor Rafael Villordon, Katigbac charged that Arboleda and Yee repeatedly beat him during the second quarter of the game.

Heckled by Katigbac after Arboleda committed a flagrant foul on Macmac Baracael, Burger King guard attacked the Gilas fan in his front row seat. The victim suffered a lump on his face as he took a kick and series of blows from Arboleda while Yee allegedly hit him with his knees.

Times Of Your Life
PAUL ANKA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4CIBHLPjBI

Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it's hard to find
The memories you left behind
Remember, do you remember

The laughter and the tears
The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you've seen
And all the others in between
Remember, do you remember
The times of your life (do you remember)

Reach back for the joy and the sorrow
Put them away in your mind
The mem'ries are time that you borrow
To spend when you get to tomorrow

Here comes the saddest part (comes the saddest part)
The seasons are passing one by one
So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life

Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life
Of your life
Of your life

Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life

Sports and Fitness / Golf -> The President's cup
October 12, 2009, 10:48:51 AM

Golfdigest.com

SAN FRANCISCO -- His only bogey was the celebration. Tiger Woods rolled in his winning birdie putt, removed his cap to shake hands with opponent Y.E Yang, then soberly moved on. Take away the uniforms and the world No. 1 could have been wrapping up a Wednesday pro-am.

At that point, Woods didn't grasp the signficance: his win was the clinching point. The Presidents Cup was the Americans' for the third consecutive time. Even when U.S. captain Fred Couples unleashed a celebratory uppercut while walking toward his star player, the moment seemed to pass Woods by.

"I said, 'You won the point,'" Couples clarified to Woods later behind the 13th green, in the revelry that followed his 6-and-5 win.

"I thought you said I won MY point," Woods responded.

"No," Couples said. "I said you won THE point."

So there's the drawback to winning five points in one week at the Presidents Cup. After a while, it's hard to keep track of them all.

Happy weekend everyone.

fhm.com.ph

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, “We only have one rule here: Don’t step on the ducks!” They enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It’s almost impossible not to step on them. Although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she’s ever seen. St. Peter chains them together and says: “Your punishment is to spend eternity chained to this man!” The next day, the second woman makes the same mistake and along comes St. Peter with another extremely ugly man.

He chains them together with the same admonishment. The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, becomes very careful where she steps. She manages to go months without stepping on any duck, but one day, St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid her eyes onâ€"tall, long eyelashes, muscular. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word. The happy woman says, “I wonder what I’ve done to deserve being chained to you?” The guy says, “I don’t know about you, but I stepped on a duck!”

By Nelson Beltran (The Philippine Star) Updated September 28, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Tony Chua, the top official of the Barako Bull ball club who had served as chairman of the PBA board of governors, died in an accident at the height of tropical storm “Ondoy” Saturday.

Reports said Chua drowned after he was hit by a piece of wood while clinging to a tree at the height of the typhoon. His body was found yesterday morning.

...
Helpless

PBA assistant coach Koy Banal witnessed how Tony Chua met his tragic fate, killed by cascading water spawned by Ondoy.

The Banals and the Chuas both live in Filinvest subdivision on Marcos Highway, Antipolo.

Banal was helpless as he clung to a tree when he saw a man being rescued but lost his grip on a nylon cord before a rescuer could get hold of him.

“Koy was hysterical and shouting on the phone when he learned that it was Mr. Chua,” said Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio in a text message.

According to Gregorio, Banal held on to a tree at the height of Ondoy’s rage up to 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

The Philippines have long been known as both a very humble, and extremely sacred nation, led by many who only remain afloat by virtue of their own blood, sweat, and tears. Having such a strong penchant for spirituality, the quest to rise above all else not only serves as a way to help the common man, but in the end, also a way to honor him.

With such an honorary background and a work ethic to support it, there's no question as to why or how the land of the Philippines recently witnessed the emergence of a few star pupils. In America, Basketball has Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Golf has Tiger Woods. But as great as those men are, few can argue they are little more than the face of their respective sports.

Manny Pacquiao checks out the cockpit of the Gulfstream jet during their flight from San Francisco to Los Angeles.  Abac Cordero / Philstar.com

LOS ANGELES â€" Without really looking ahead of the Miguel Cotto fight, Manny Pacquiao yesterday said what seems to be his inevitable dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is looming on the horizon.

Once the fight pushes through, Pacquiao could earn from $25 million to $30 million or roughly P1.5 billion.

But Pacquiao said it would all depend on the outcome of his fight with Cotto, the reigning WBO welterweight champion, in November, and Mayweather’s own match with Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday.

Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are favored to prevail, and should no one spoil the fun, they could end up facing each other for what could be the fight of the decade or even greater than that, later next year.

“Kapag nanalo kami pareho ni Mayweather, kami na yan (If me and Mayweather prevail, then it should be us),” said Pacquiao on board the Gulfstream G200 eight-seater plane that took him out of San Francisco.

“Nag-uusap na. Basta. Nag-uusap na (Talks are on),” said Pacquiao who was joined in the 50-minute flight to Burbank in LA by trainer Freddie Roach, top-ranked publicist Fred Sternburg, Mike Koncz, Geng Gacal and Roger Fernandez.

Cotto took a separate plane, a private one as well, to Los Angeles and was joined by his father, Miguel Sr., lawyer Gabriel Penagaricano, coach Phil Landman, Top Rank big boss Bob Arum and his dynamic duo of Lee Samuels and Ricardo Jimenez.

Arum said Pacquiao stands to earn as much as $20 million for the Cotto fight, and while he has yet to confirm that there are indeed talks with the Mayweather camp, he’d rather have Pacquiao focusing on the coming fight.

At the AT&T Park in San Francisco earlier in the day, Pacquiao and Cotto came to watch the San Francisco Giants clobber the LA Dodgers, and for the fourth straight day the two boxers stood close to one another.

They were together up inside a VIP box, enjoying some cold drinks and hotdogs. They seem to like each other’s company but when they part in a couple of days, they should start training, thinking of ways how to beat each other.

After the match, played before a sell-out crowd of 40,000, Pacquiao and Cotto took over, holding a conference just off the Giants dugout, in front of some 3,000 fans who came to see the two world champions in the flesh, and not necessarily the ballgame.

A cold afternoon drizzle was not enough to shoo the crowd away as Pacquiao, Cotto and Arum fielded questions from the media and some of the fans, which occupied eight sections of the lower stands, as well.

Pacquiao hardly talked about his plans for the fight, and instead invited the fans to come to Las Vegas in November because “I’m going to hold a concert at Mandalay Bay after the fight.”

Cotto was bolder this time, saying he’d train as hard as he can because “it’s going to be war” out there at the MGM Grand.

Pacquiao played basketball with friends in San Francisco at noon before leaving for LA.

From the airport, Pacquiao was taken straight to his $2 million home at the plush Hancock Park, took some rest and enjoyed dinner of grilled angus beef and steamed rice.

Roach was asked about Pacquiao’s training, and said they will be ready to go 12 rounds against Cotto. But boxing’s hottest trainer today may have something else in mind when he said training will be held in “Boracay.”

He was quick in making the correction that it should be Baguio. Later on, before boarding the private plane, he had a good laugh about having mentioned Boracay, which he fondly remembers as the island paradise in the Philippines.

Notes: Tickets to the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto “Firepower” in November are moving so fast that it you still don’t have one, chances are you’d end up watching the fight on pay-per-view or closed circuit or buying one for an incredible price on the black market. Of the close to 17,000 seats at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, only a few hundreds are left, those pegged at $1,000 and $750. “The $300s are gone,” said Top Rank’s Ricardo Jimenez. The tickets to the Pacquiao-Cotto fight are doing so great that Ringside A, Row A seats, where the stars belong, are being peddled on the Internet for $8,645 each or roughly P414,960, probably equivalent to a year’s salary of a bank manager in Manila. “It just shows how big this fight is and how the fans are looking forward to it,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz. “For some fights, hotels in Las Vegas are on a discounted price, but for this fight, for Pacquiao fights, they’re jacking them up,” he said.

Another lazy monday ...  :-[
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

A MAN ESCAPES FROM PRISON WHERE HE'S BEEN LOCKED UP FOR 15YRS.

HE BREAKS INTO A HOUSE TO LOOK FOR MONEY AND GUNS. INSIDE, HE FINDS A YOUNG COUPLE IN BED. HE ORDERS THE GUY OUT OF THE BED AND HE TIES HIM TO A CHAIR.

WHILE TYING THE HOMEOWNER'S WIFE TO THE BED, THE CONVICT GETS ON TOP OF HER, KISSES HER NECK, THEN GETS UP AND GOES TO THE BATHROOM.

WHILE HE IS IN THERE, THE HUSBAND WHISPERS OVER TO HIS WIFE: "LISTEN, THIS GUY IS AN ESCAPED CONVICT. LOOK AT HIS CLOTHES! HE HAS PROBABLY SPENT A LOT OF TIME  IN JAIL AND HASN'T SEEN A WOMAN IN YEARS. I SAW HOW HE KISSED YOUR NECK. IF HE WANTS SEX, DON'T RESIST, DON'T COMPLAIN...DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU.  SATISFY HIM NO MATTER HOW MUCH HE NAUSEATES YOU. THIS GUY IS OBVIOUSLY VERY DANGEROUS. IF HE GETS ANGRY, HE COULD KILL US BOTH. BE STRONG, HONEY. "I LOVE YOU!"

HIS WIFE RESPONDS: "HE WASN'T KISSING MY NECK. HE WAS WHISPERING IN MY EAR.

HE TOLD ME THAT HE'S GAY, THINKS YOU'RE CUTE, AND ASKED IF WE HAD ANY VASELINE. I TOLD HIM IT WAS IN THE BATHROOM.

BE STRONG HONEY. "I LOVE YOU TOO!"

CNN.com

It may have a fairy tale ending -- a story of perseverance and second chances that's playing out live on the public stage of online networking.

But 24-year-old Brianna Karp's story started as a nightmare. Brianna Karp's trailer now sits outside a friend's home near Los Angeles.

In a rocky economy, Karp was laid off from her Irvine, California, job as an executive assistant in July 2008.

She got by for a while on temp jobs and unemployment benefits. But when her savings dried up, she was no longer able to afford her rent.

The only answer she saw then was a trailer she'd inherited from her father -- a man she barely knew who had recently committed suicide.

"I was left with a truck and this camper, which I was going to sell but coincidentally this happened to me," she said. "I thought, 'Well, I have this.' "

Karp, who writes that she is also estranged from her mother, ended up camped in a Los Angeles-area Walmart parking lot.

"The first night, I think, in the Walmart parking lot was the scariest," she told CNN. "I was panicking, and I was just afraid."

For comfort, she had her mastiff named Fezzik. And she had her laptop computer.

As she spent five months looking for jobs and blasting out resumes, often spending hour after hour at a coffee shop to take advantage of its free Wi-Fi connection, she also started blogging. The result, the Girl's Guide to Homelessness, chronicled the ups and downs of her new life.

She reminisced about adopting her dog, named for a character from the movie "The Princess Bride," and mulled the pros and cons of having a pet while homeless. She recounted details from failed job interviews and offered tips for other homeless women.

"I was trying to stay positive and cheerful," Karp said. "I started writing the blog in a tongue-in-cheek way to kind of laugh about my circumstances, keep them chronicled. I didn't think anyone would actually read it."  Watch CNN's Ted Rowland's report on Brianna. »

But people did, including Matt Barnes, formerly homeless himself and running a Web site about his own homelessness issues in Scotland.

He asked her to write for his site and would eventually become Brianna's boyfriend.

Another big break came through a shot at the weird world of reality television.

Karp applied for a show that would offer contestants the chance at a job with Elle magazine advice columnist E. Jean Carroll.

She was granted an audition for the show and, by her own account, totally botched it.

"I went back and blogged about bombing the interview and made fun of myself," she said.

On a lark, she then wrote to Carroll via her column.

"Dear E. Jean: I'm currently homeless and living in a Wal-Mart parking lot," her e-mail began. "I'm educated, I have never done drugs and I'm not mentally ill. I have a strong employment history and am a career executive assistant. The instability sucks, but I'm rocking it as best as I can."

She told Carroll about her poor interview for the show and finished the note with the question, "How does one get another shot when one screws up a job interview? -- Homeless, but Not Hopeless."

Carroll said she was floored by the note.

"[The phrase] 'I'm living in a Walmart parking lot' hooked me," she said. "I thought, she's so ready to work, obviously she can write, she's got some skills."

Her response appeared in the August issue of Elle -- she offered Karp an internship and a chance to write a fashion blog for the magazine.

"I think she's a new voice," Carroll said. "She's a voice we haven't heard, and I'm excited for her future."

Not that all of her troubles were instantly over. Last month, she wrote, Walmart finally had her trailer towed, and she has now parked her mobile home at a friend's house outside Los Angeles.

She's also still seeking that elusive full-time job, while hoping her newfound high profile will help spread the word about homelessness, and how it can happen to the most unlikely people.

"If you saw me walking down the street, you wouldn't assume I live in a parking lot," she writes on the blog. "In short, I am just like you, except without the convenience of a permanent address."

(CNN) -- A Wisconsin judge ruled there is enough evidence for four women to stand trial for their roles in a staged motel tryst that ended with a man tied to a bed, his penis super-glued to his stomach, a lawyer for one of the women said Wednesday.

Michelle Belliveau, Wendy Sewell, Therese Ziemann and the man's wife appeared in court Tuesday.

A Calumet County Circuit Court Judge issued the ruling Tuesday after hearing from the alleged victim, who spent about 90 minutes on the witness stand describing his ordeal, attorney Rob Bellin said.

The 37-year-old man, who is in custody on charges in an unrelated case, delivered his testimony wearing an orange jailhouse jumpsuit.

"I was telling them they couldn't do this, that it's assault. Hello, let me leave," the alleged victim said, according to CNN affiliate WBAY.

The man's wife and two of his girlfriends hatched a plot to lure him to a Stockbridge motel on July 30 and confront him after learning that he was having "sexual relations" with all of them, a criminal complaint states.

Therese Ziemann, Wendy Sewell, Michelle Belliveau and the man's wife are accused of felony false imprisonment, which carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison.

Ziemann, who is also accused of misdemeanor sexual assault and battery, faces arraignment on October 5. Belliveau pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, and the others have motion hearings scheduled in October.

CNN does not name victims of alleged sexual assault and will not name the alleged victim's wife since they use the same last name.

Ziemann told investigators that her lover's wife contacted her the day before the incident and revealed that he was married with children and seeing other women for money. Ziemann said she confirmed the information with Sewell, and the three arranged to confront him "without him knowing," the complaint says.

Belliveau, Ziemann's sister, was allegedly also present.

The man went to the hotel on July 30 to meet Ziemann, who told investigators that she met him on Craigslist and fell in love, paying for their hotel rooms and lending him $3,000, the complaint says.

The alleged victim told police that when he arrived, Ziemann told him she wanted to "tie him up and give him a rub down." She used bed sheets to tie him to the bed, and blindfolded him with a pillowcase before cutting off his underwear with scissors, according to the complaint.

She then texted the other women to let them know "he's tied up."

After they arrived, they peppered him with questions like, "which do you love more?" and "who do you want to grow old with?"

Ziemann told police she slapped her lover and asked "can you handle that?" before using Krazy Glue to stick his penis to his stomach.

The man told police that the women took his wallet, cell phone and car and left him tied to the bed. He chewed on the bindings to free himself and eventually called police.

The man, who has a criminal record in Wisconsin dating back to 1998, is in custody on unrelated charges of child abuse, theft and harassment. His next court appearance in that case is scheduled for Thursday.

Ellen DeGeneres replaces Paula Abdul as ‘American Idol’ judge
Posted: 10:13 PM ET
By Alan Duke
CNN

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) â€" “American Idol” has signed talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres as a fourth judge for its next season, the show’s producers said.

The 51-year-old comedienne will fill the chair left empty by Paula Abdul’s recent departure when the singing competition resumes for a ninth year in January, creator and executive producer Simon Fuller said.

Adbul left the show after eight years as a judge when she was unable to agree on a new contract.

DeGeneres said she’s been a “huge fan” of “American Idol” for many years. “So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote,” she said.

DeGeneres, who will continue to host her syndicated daily talk show, will “bring a unique human touch to our judging panel,” Fuller said.

She gained fame first with a stand-up comedy act and then with acting roles in several movies and TV sitcoms. DeGeneres has also hosted the primetime Emmys and the Academy Awards.

How To Tips / The 90/10 Principle

The 90/10 Principle

Author : Stephen Covey ( Management Guru)

Have you read this before? Discover the 90/10 Principle. It will change your life

(at least the way you react to situations). What is this principle?

10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean?

We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light., but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example. You are eating breakfast with your family. Your

daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just what happened. What happens when the next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.

She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?

The answer is " D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference? Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both  ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off)

Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive? Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job. The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result? Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

SAP says GSIS did not engage its services

By Alexander Villafania

Filed Under: Technology (general), Government, Software, Consumer Issues

MAKATI CITY, Philippines â€" SAP Philippines has finally broken its silence over accusations by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) that IBM’s DB2 database software was at fault for the agency’s massive system crashes.

In a statement sent to INQUIRER.NET, SAP Philippines said that it had no contractual relationship with the agency in the implementation of its IT infrastructure software or consultancy services.

Instead, the software company stressed that GSIS licensed SAP software from Team Synergia, a local value-added reseller.

SAP also insisted that it would not comment on any other product or organization involved in the issue.

“We understand from GSIS that an analysis of GSIS’ system problem has already been conducted and that the root cause of the data corruption has nothing to do with SAP software or its product support,” the company said in its statement.

Nevertheless, SAP said it is already providing technical assistance to all of the parties involved in the matter.

Dubbed as The Filipino Flash, Nonito “Junjun” Donaire Jr. visited his native Bohol with his wife Rachel Marcial (a Fil-Am taekwondo jin) and some friends from the US.

According to Funfare Bohol correspondent Leo Udtohan, Nonito and Rachel were married on Aug. 28, 2008 and he promised Rachel the trip to Bohol.

“Junjun took the group to Balicasag Island for diving,” reported Leo. “They also visited the Hinagdanan Cave, the Blood Compact Marker, Baclayon Church and Loboc River. Junjun posed wide-eyed with the tarsier. They had lunch at Riverwatch (operated by Tessie and Libby Sumalpong).”  During a stopover at the end of Loboc River for a cruise, Junjun danced with a local dance group which entertains the “cruisers.”

“He danced very well at mahusay ding kumanta,” added Leo. “The local folks which mobbed him were very delighted. In fairness, he knows how to grind and has a good voice. He attracted crowds everywhere he went, including the Chocolate Hills.”

In Talibon, he paid a courtesy call on Mayor Juanario Item who gave him a Plaque of Excellence. Junjun was born in Talibon, raised in General Santos City in the Philippines and moved to the US when he was 10 years old.

Leo said that Junjun also visited Alejandro Gurrea Elementary School where he studied before moving to US, and the abandoned, old house where he was born. Junjun was with his mom Elvira while they recalled his childhood memories.

“He was misty-eyed when he entered the old house,” noted Leo.

A tale of two boxers

As we brace for the bout of Manny Pacquiao with Ricky Hatton on Sunday, May 3, have boxing fans ever paused to ponder on whatever happened to past champions who have also made the country proud?

Sadly, in the euphoria that follows the victory of every Filipino boxer, such as the recent win of Nonito Donaire Jr. and Brian Viloria, we conveniently overlook the plight of other champions who were celebrated during their heyday and forgotten soon after, neglected by the government which should reward them for a job well done.

A case in point is Luisito Espinosa, former world champion in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions, whose story is told by San Francisco-based Filipino journalist Mike Genovea for Funfare readers.

Here it is:

The fists that once battered his opponents in the ring are now reduced to cleaning tables in a fastfood restaurant here in San Francisco.

The hands belong to Luisito Espinosa, 41, the former world champion in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

Espinosa retired after he was KO’d by Cristobal Cruz in their 2005 fight in Stockton, California.

To survive, Espinosa worked as a stocker at Costco (a membership wholesale store chain) for three years. Now a busboy at McDonald’s at the corner of Serramonte and Gellert Avenues, he’s applying for work at Lucky Chances, a casino owned by a Filipino, at nearby Colma area.

“I have to work to be able to pay for my bills,” said Espinosa who held the WBA bantamweight title from 1989 to 1991 and the WBC featherweight crown from 1995 to 1998. He assured that he’s still in shape because, as part-time job, he trains boxers while working out at the 3rd Avenue Gym.

“I am good for two more years,” said Espinosa, once dubbed as The Original Golden Boy of boxing, who couldn’t hide his resentment toward what he called “greedy” managers (“Except Papa Sarreal”) who were interested more in fattening their pockets than in advancing his career.

That’s why, unlike Pacquiao, he never came close to achieving mega-bucks purses despite being at the top for eight years.

His father Dio and uncle Leo were also boxers.

Separated from his wife Marie Cherie (with whom he has three children), Espinosa is still recognized by Pinoys who go to McDonald’s. During our interview, six people said hi to him.

“Kung minsan nga binibiro ko sila. Kapag tinatanong nila kung ako si Espinosa na boxer, ang sagot ko hindi.”

Espinosa wrested the WBA bantamweight title in 1989 by knocking out Khaokor Galaxy in the first round. He defended his title twice before losing it to Israel Contreras by a fifth round KO in 1991.

He was in the limelight again in 1995 when he won the WBC featherweight crown by outpointing Manuel Medina. He defended his title seven times before bowing to Cesar Soto by unanimous decision in 1999.

This coming sunday morning (5/03/09) is a big day for our country as our very own Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao (the best boxer in the world and the current # 1 pound for pound in the rating) is fighting against England's Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Usually the brit fans are very noisy and loud just like that of a football game.

Sounds fair and good rendition of the Philippines National Anthem by Martin.  This is the first time a male singer will sing the lupang hinirang.

You probably saw this before via email circulated.   For those who haven't knew this yet,  here is the question :

If you have a brand new car and you have to refill fuel in a gas station,  how would you know that the gas tank filler (abrihanan sa fuel tank) is on the RIGHT or in the LEFT side while driving without sticking your head out of the window checking which side it is?  That by knowing it would be easy to drive through and position the car near the side of the petrol hose.

Fuel tank filler/opening

The answer is in your dashboard fuel pump icon as illustrated below.

Left side filling if the icon is shown below (left photo) and right side filling if it appears in the image below (right photo).

Sige, echeck kono tinuod ba ni.  Wa may dashboard neng akong trisikad diri.   ;D

Note:  Though this is not true to some car models, majority of the cars resemble the fuel pump icon to the location of the gas tank filler.

It has been a hot topic in the media lately about obstruction of justice related to the death of Ted Failon Etong's wife.  How can an individual be charged with obstruction of justice?  How can Failon's  maid/driver be charged if they simply were not aware of the fact that by cleaning the bathroom and the car from what the police called "evidence", they were charged with obstruction of justice.

Second, when can an individual avail of the services from PAO (Public Attorney's Office).  The honorable justice secretary said Ted Failon is not an indigent and therefore he is not qualified.  Why? Is there a criteria (status, financial, etc)  for their services?  Ted asked help from Atty. Acosta (PAO) and I understand the latter responded accordingly.

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Among the misconceptions about Augusta National Golf Club, and there are many, is that it never changes. Nothing could be further from the truth. This place evolves with a clearly intelligent design. We saw proof of that Sunday in a highly entertaining finish to a magnificent Masters.

Perhaps Augusta National doesn't change in the way some would like, or according to the time schedule others would impose, but there may be no event in all of sports that adapts as well to climatic convulsions as the Masters. In fact, it seems to anticipate them.

All the proof you need of this compelling example of durability and malleability was splashed across the immaculate fairways on a brilliant Easter Sunday as the men in the green jackets staged one of the best editions in the 75 year history of this tradition-laden tournament. Simply and accurately put: They got it right. That couldn't always be said in recent years.

That the two-hole playoff with Chad Campbell, Kenny Perry and Angel Cabrera was won by Cabrera was almost beside the point. And how often in a major championship can you say that a sudden-death playoff was the second most-exciting thing to happen on Sunday -- if not the third?

But that was pretty much the case. What we had Sunday on an Augusta National course set up to allow scoring but punish poor shots was three distinct tournaments. There was he Tiger-Phil Show; there was Kenny Perry's determined defiance of age before crumbling at the end; and then there was the Cabrera victory in the playoff, giving him a green jacket to go with his 2007 U.S. Open trophy.
