Mga 'Sano/a,

It seems to me that this profound dev't has missed the attention of our TB community and the rest of our fellow
Bol-anons.

From the meagre responses to the news item here at TB, ranging from El Mundo's cautionary stance to Miss Bambi's
appreciative anticipation of some economic benefit, the Boholano society has not taken note of the implications
that the event may cast upon us.

In my humble perspectives of the prospective dev't that may come about in our province, I beg from everyone
a careful and deliberate course of action to address this dev't. Let's exercise utmost caution in allowing the AFP
to transfer the Central Command to Bohol.

What's the difference between hosting the CentCom and the Visayas Bilibid prison here in our province. Some years
back, a proposal was foisted for Bohol to be the site of a Visayas Bilibid Prison (detention center for Bisaya life-termers).
And the idea was scuttled due to vehement objections by concerned Bol-anons.

This time, some misguided politicians have thought about a way to "earn a fast buck" and have a convenient source
of "mercenaries". Meanwhile, we ordinary citizens will bear the brunt of the social risks involved with catering to the
whims and caprices of the military "occupation".

Since we are in a democracy, I suggest we get the opinions of everyone, take a survey of pros and cons and discuss
openly the merits and demerits of Bohol hosting the CentCom.

Talk of the Town / Re: Costly Congressmen !!!

Here's another proof on how our Congressmen lived up to their monicker.

Kun moingon mo nga gi-upgrade lamang siya out of courtesy, labi nang dili angayan ug
pagkawalay delicadeza. Tungod kay Chairman si Chatto sa Tourism Committee sa Congreso
ug sa ubang kometiba nga adunay posibleng conflict of interest sa industriya sa transportasyon
diin adunay interest ang PAL o Cebu Pacific ba.

Kamo nay magtimbangtimbang kung husto ba iyang binuhatan!

Talk of the Town / Re: Pressing claim over Sabah
August 17, 2007, 04:27:40 PM

'Doy Onic,

Matters in the realm of geopolitics are not of our immediate concern. Circumstances even in our own
province do not bode well for a forthcoming improvements in our social and economic wellbeing.
What with the class of leaders we have and the neo-cacique system prevailing in our present society.

On the national scene, I venture to say that it is even advantageous for us Bol-anons that the national
gov't opts to give a chance that our brother Moros have their cake (and eat it too) by giving them
all for themselves the areas they are claiming (Sulu, Basilan, Maguindanao, & Lanao del Sur) comprosing
of the ARRM provinces. With that, our national gov't would be saving billions of subsidy to ARRM without
transparency in how the funds are disbursed (its like pouring water to a sinkhole). The funds save would
be better off for social services (education, health, paying off the cost in constructing the virtual Talibon
Dam and the prospective inutile Bayongan Dam, etc.) in the non-Muslim areas and the benefits derived
would impinge and trickle to the betterment of the ordinary Bol-anons.

Tinio, ug uban pa nga nagpakabana didto wala pa gyud maka tagamtam ug kalampusan.

In fine, what I beg to pursue is that... we wish to address things that we can pine to accomplish in our
own small sphere of influence!

Who's Who of Bohol / Re: One-on-One with Ed Macalandag

Yes, i know Ed Macalandag. I had the opportunity to work with him in Ubay Stock Farm before.
He is one such level-headed, unassuming, brilliant man I happen to know.  He is really good at numbers, figures and statistical data.  That's why I'm certain he will make a good planning and development officer.

I confirm your observations, Madam Olin . . .

And he is a model of a public servant with such stable moorings in Christian ethics! May his tribe increase!

In contrast with one high official of Bohol CFC who has a lot of explaining, e.g. his role at the Talibon Dam scam!

Mga 'Sano/a,

Mao- na ba ni ang situasyon nga ang atong publiko nakahuna-huna na into resorting to the extreme at the cost of sacrificing christian morality?

Blame Boom Boom's hired CPA who tricked him into believing that "tax avoidance is an art" when this booboo of an accountant only led him to a crime of tax evasion. Mr. Bautista should sue his CPA for malpractice and claim his tax due to the gov't as damages. This will teach  some of our professionals (including CPAs) to honor their code of ethics!

6. According to someone from the COA, an audit team has been sent to Bohol to verify the veracity of reports received that computers and the accompanying programs/applications distributed to public schools in Bohol are overpriced and non-operational. These computers and the bundled educational application packages are funded by the PDAF of the three "honorable" congressmen of Bohol, all three of them, whom Atty. Victor de la Serna has publicly accused of being "less than honest". Initial reports indicate that the supplier of the equipment and software is the same outfit for all of the three "gentlemen" and that the hardware carried a name brand on its casing but with generic parts inside. But what is damning is that the bundled applications appear to be "pirated" and has gone non-functional.

The auditors can only pity the DepEd provincial superintendent as she is the one who accepted the deliveries and certified that the equipment and their bundled applications were compliant to the terms and conditions of the contract.

We don't know the background and circumstances behind the disconnection of the SP telephone service. But in the interest of public service, we can not absolve those responsible to let the event unfold.

If it was done on purpose (by refusing to pay the bill) by the SP Secretary, due to probable abuse of its use (unauthorized use for long distance calls), there are other means to discipline their office personnel or install preventive measures to prevent improper use.

The BTO and the provincial government of Bohol has hired pacific consultants international to create the Bohol Tourism Master Plan. This service provider is the one who created the tourism master plan of phuket, thailand and some other Asian countries like Indonesia.

X - - - - - X

Mike,

I will email to you the powerpoint presentation of Pacific Consultants made at the Bohol Tropics in March this year.

You will see what their plans are for Bohol tourism as an output of their contract to study and recommend what is appropriate.

Remember, you have bylined it in the Sunday, January 15, 2006 issue of the Bohol Chronicle re the Pre-feasibility study on Bohol Tourism Plan.

Worthy to note is that the Bohol Tourism Master Plan (BTMP) for which the Pacific Consultants International (PCI) won the bid at P9.5 million, half a million less than the P10-million cap. Gov. Erico Aumentado said with the adjustment, DOT's share is down to P2.9 million instead of P3 million. Bohol's three congressmen; Edgar Chatto, Roberto Cajes and Eladio Jala stand to share P1.4 million each instead of P1.5 million from their respective Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). And the provincial government takes up the slack of P2.4 million instead of P2.5 million.

Also, the Provincial Bids and Awards Committee headed by lawyer Handel Lagunay recommended the awarding of the contract to PCI.

Can we ask from Atty Handel, who were the other bidders in that contract. I seem not to notice it published at the Bohol Provincial website as mandated by law.

Mike,

Splendid offer from your limitless concern for Bohol !!!

However, knowing a little about idiosyncracies of traditional bureaucrats, may I suggest that your offer be coursed thru a collective medium. Individual propositions have less chances for consideration in the scheme of things with the bureaucracy as people within always associate it with some ulterior motives, unless it comes with some SOP (you know its allegorical with public transactions).

So, it would be apropos to somehow lend it to the TB Venture Capital Coop(?) as proposed by the Capitan.

What does the TB... community say. May we hear your opinions, guys . . .

Mr. Bohol (Mike),

The blame lies on Bohol Tourism management ...

If I recall right, the first editions of that multimedia marketing presentation did have snippets of Bohol. The recent versions may have been edited to shorten the video. Thus, it shows that we have no significant links with the Manila based Tourism Authority powers to advocate Bohol tourism interests.

We can not fault Ms. Babie Balio for her limitations, since her office (PTO) can only do what it can with its meager alloted resources in terms of personnel capacity and promotional funding.

Somewhere within TB... I noticed a post noting the absence of a notable prov'l gov't website to promote Bohol tourism. Can we in the TB... community initiate some civic oriented project to assist the PTO (Ms. Balio's office) setup a website for Bohol tourism. We can "coerce" Cong. Chatto, Chair of Tourism Committee to partially subsidize the effort thru the PTO.

Pagka-usik ani ....

Totoy Zarraga may have noble motives when he initiated funding the construction of that unfulfilled dream of a health facility to serve his own town and the adjoining ones. Unfortunately, with a parochial mentality, the succeeding third district congressman did not care to pursue the project even if the building was completed and ready to be used during his NINE years term in office.

Still, the project was funded by public funds. Let's hope the incumbent congressman will depart from his father's selfish objectives and start to be a public servant and support moves to save this public structure from waste.

May I urge everyone, specially Loayanons (Jiji Apalisok for instance) in TB... to think about ways to save this particular white elephant into something beneficial to the public. I can propose to have it converted into a training center (c/o TESDA, etc.) or anything the new town administration of Mayor May Lim can think about useful.

Mga 'Sano/a,

Let's have a roll of certified white elephants, useless projects and other publicly funded projects veering towards being one.

I will start with an obvious one. Please continue with the listup to include those that are not widely publicized and situated within the enclaves of the municipalities.

So, here goes . . . .

1. The Loboc Bridge as initiated by former BIR Chief Tomas Toledo.

=====================================================

We hope that starting with this listing, attempts at recouping the cost thru various means, like employing value engineering can be undertaken.

Aumentado got an Isuzu D-Max while Cajes was allotted an Isuzu Crosswind.

The purchase of said vehicles were made with the approval of no less than Pres. Gloria Arroyo, according to Membreve.

Both officials, he explained are involved in the supervision of the irrigation project, considered to be one of the country's biggest. The BHIP-2 aims to irrigate some 5,000 hectares of rice fields in the towns of Ubay, Trinidad and San Miguel.

The purchase of the seven vehicles incurred P15-million, Membreve said.

It is not likely that the purchase of said luxury sports vehicles were with the personal knowlege nor direct intervention by the President. Although the principle of command responsibility in gov't presumes that GMA holds the final buck. Membreve only presumed that it was so since purchases of new vehicles by any gov't entity needs Malacanang approval (Office of the Executive Secretary) from DBM recommendations based on the justifications made by the requesting agency.

More unlikely, is that the President approved the purchase by BHIP2-NIA with the vehicles to be assigned for the exclusive use of the governor and the 2nd district congressman.

May I proffer a layman's opinion on Dr. Jess Tirol's piece on the issue, particularly the ff;

Supply and Demand Economics

In economics, there is such a thing as the "Lsw of Supply and Demand." This is what the economist Mr. Neri is thinking about. If there is a great demand of banana and the supply available is fish, the ideal thing to do would be to increase the supply of banana and lessen the supply of fish in order to have a match in the economy.

The problem is that Mr. Neri is told to turn the fisherman into banana planters to supply the demand. Do you think it could be done? Where would the fishermen plant their bananas?

The thesis of this writer is that, President Arroyo is sending Mr. Neri to a wrong place to solve a problem in the economy.

In a simple economy, that maybe the case ....

But, in the present real life situation, its much more complex and so tentative, thus brilliant economists have devised such processes as "value chain analyses", "creative economy", etc. to address so much discontinuities in modern economies and societies.

The current schemes where the axiom is productivity, the approach is not to transform fishermen to banana farmers, or vice-versa but to make both of them produce higher value of their product and sell more. The secret therefore is to identify gaps in the market supply chain on why there is a surfeit of fish and a dearth of bananas. Likewise, it is necessary to resort to methodologies in the domain of creative economy to look for intermediate mechanisms to address mismatches in the elements of the economy and society.

So, the contention of assigning an economist in an education portfolio based on perceived formal qaulifications is of less bearing in relation to the criteria based on management skills, trust and confidence.

To extend further the observation, Dr. Tirol maybe showing his fears that changes may happen in the higher education sector that could eventually affect the sad and happy affairs involving the education providers' grip on the commerce of educating the hapless "knowledge seekers" ???

Come on, be the first!

Hi Rosie Like No Other,

Allow me the honor of availing the Queen's Privilege!

Me and my monogamous partner has been thru the Perfumed Garden for sometime and its been an exhilarating experience for both of us. To avert monotony, we have experimented with enhancing our natural endowments. One recommended regimen to heighten pleasure is penile exercise for enlargement and better turgidity.

Hereunder is the process:

==============================================================================================
Penis Enlargement Methods and Exercises
Having a big penis doesn't hurt (usually), but most agree that the quality of sex is much more important than penis size.

The average length ranges from 5.5 to 6.5 inches. There are men who express dissatisfaction with 6-inch and long for 8-inches. As for women, they widely believe that a man’s penis size is irrelevant; being attentive to a woman’s sexual and emotional needs is a far more important factor than how well endowed a man is.

All in all, a man’s endowment is a helpful attribute in pleasing a woman, but actions speak louder than size. The fact is a man with a larger size covers more of the women’s vaginal erogenous zones, which can lead to higher stimulation. But it doesn’t mean anything if the man isn’t equipped mentally and sexually to work his tool.

As for ways to increase size there are many â€" yet only a few lead to satisfying results.

Penis Enlargement Exercises:

One of the main principles for enlargement is to improve circulation and to increase the volume of blood held within the erectile tissue. It is the erectile tissue that engorges with blood when sexually aroused resulting in an erection. The theory goes that if the erectile tissue can be encouraged to hold a greater volume of blood than it could otherwise naturally accommodate, then this will in turn result in a larger size both when erect and flaccid.

Jelqing (Milking) Exercise - The basic technique is quite simple to perform and relies on applying a milking motion along the length of the semi erect penile shaft. To achieve this, the thumb and forefinger are used to encircle the base of the penis. A moderately firm grip is used to maintain the partial erection and to ensure the blood is securely trapped. Maintaining this moderate pressure, the grip hand then slides forward along the length of the shaft and forces as much blood as possible into all areas of the erectile tissue. As the grip hand nears the end of the penile shaft the alternate hand then repeats the process, resulting in a continuous motion with each stroke taking around 1-2 seconds. To perform the Jelq correctly, it is often helpful to use a lubricant such as Orgy Oil as this helps the gripping hand to slide without resistance along the length.

Enlargement exercises are usually performed when the penis is flaccid. The basic technique involves gripping firmly around the head and then gently pulling forward. The idea of the stretch is not to pull the penis to the point of pain but to just pull sufficiently so that the penis is stretched to its maximum comfortable limit. An example of a stretching exercise would then be to hold the stretch for approximately 15 seconds before relaxing. To complete the session the process would then be repeated 10-15 times.

Weight Hanging - The use of weights and stretchers to enlarge the size, it is based on the principle of tensile force and the body's ability to adapt and change under such influence. Through the application of sustained and continuous tension, cells within an area subjected to such force divide and multiply, resulting in increased tissue mass.

Ballooning -
One of the ways to obtain a larger erection and size is by "ballooning". This method involves prolonging your ejaculation. Therefore, this means in order to begin ballooning, the first step is to learn how to last longer. You must be able to hold your ejaculation back 3-5 times during sexual activity. If it’s impossible to hold back the ejaculation or withhold from ejaculating prematurely then you must first take Kohinoor Gold to gain endurance. This will put you on the road to being a more sexually stimulating lover, as well as put you in the perfect position to practice the Penile Ballooning Technique.

While it is erect, begin massaging your penile shaft, footing, and base, pubis, groins, and scrotum to increase the blood flow. By holding back the ejaculation you will start to accelerate the metabolization of testosterone. All the while, you must hold back on ejaculation about 3 to 5 times. Then you will be free to release.

If you practice this technique frequently, it will stimulate growth in the corpora cavernosa, the spongy tissue in shaft. People who have practiced ballooning consistently have achieved gains anywhere from 1 to 3 inches. This technique takes practice, but the rewards are great!

Tips for a healthier penis
Get some extra sleep. An hour of extra sleep a day will add up to extra energy... for work, play and sex. This can interfere with your ability to perform sexually.

Eat healthy. You will derive all kinds of benefits from a diet rich in vitamins and low in fat. Your penis will also be more likely to function at full capacity.

Exercise. Working out will improve the blood flow that results from a healthier heart, which in turn benefits your penis.

Today, is a date every Bol-anon should remember and commemorate!

Though we had previous periods of self rules, like during the times of Tamblot and Dagohoy, it was only in June 1899 that a formal state of Bohol was consituted.
It is commendable therefore for every Boholano citizen to commemorate that distinct event!

Here is an excerpt from historical records;

On June 11, 1899 the provincial officials and town officials of Bohol gathered at the Provincial Capitol Building for a constitutional convention. On the same day the constitution of the Republic of Bohol was approved and the officials of the republic were elected.

Don Bernabe Reyes was elected President, Don Salustiano Borja was elected Vice President and Rafael Reyes, Eduardo Calceta, Macario Sarmiento were elected Counselors (Consejeros). The army was under the command of Sargento Mayor Pedro Samson.

The Republic of Bohol existed and was governed independently until the arrival of the Americans in Bohol on March 17, 1900. The republic collected taxes and rendered services to the Boholanos.

Upon the arrival of the Americans the Boholanos protested but agreed to co-exist with the Americans. However, on September 1, 1990 war erupted between the Boholanos and the Americans. The Republic of Bohol prosecuted the war until the surrender of General Pedro Samson on December 23, 1901.

U.S. Senator Beveridge's Imperialist Philippines Speech
January 9, 1900

... But, Senators, it would be better to abandon this combined garden and Gibraltar of the Pacific, and count our blood and treasure already spent a profitable loss, than to apply any academic arrangement of self-government to these children. They are not capable of self-government. How could they be? They are not of a self-governing race. They are Orientals, Malays, instructed by Spaniards in the latter's worst estate.
xx - - - - - - -xx
As a race, their general ability is not excellent. Educators, both men and women, to whom I have talked in Cebu and Luzon, were unanimous in the opinion that in all solid and useful education they are, as a people, dull and stupid. In showy things, like carving and painting or embroidery or music, they have apparent aptitude, but even this is superficial and never thorough. They have facility of speech, too.

Source: Library of Congress.
======================================

Then as is now, purveyors of US imperialism and hegemony are so adept at "double speak" rhetoric to conceal their real purpose. But this fellow Beveridge was unable to couch his rationale in trying to convince the US Senate not to let go of the Philippines, as it is a convenient outpost for America to trade with China even then. Using vile aspersions, he calumnied the Filipino race just to promote his thesis.

From a speech in Congress on January 9, 1900 by Senator Albert J. Beveridge (R-Indiana)

. . . [J]ust beyond the Philippines are China's illimitable markets. . . We will not renounce our part in the mission of our race, trustee of God, of the civilization of the world. . . Where shall we turn for consumers of our surplus?. . . China is our natural customer. . . [England, Germany and Russia] have moved nearer to China by securing permanent bases on her borders. The Philippines gives us a base at the door of all the East. . . They [the Filipinos] are a barbarous race, modified by three centuries of contact with a decadent race [the Spanish]. . . It is barely possible that 1,000 men in all the archipelago are capable of self-government in the Anglo-Saxon sense. . . The Declaration [of Independence] applies only to people capable of self-government. How dare any man prostitute this expression of the very elect of self-government peoples to a race of Malay children of barbarism, schooled in Spanish methods and ideas? And you, who say the Declaration applies to all men, how dare you deny its application to the American Indian? And if you deny it to the Indian at home, how dare you grant it to the Malay abroad.

Congressional Record, 56th Congress, 1st session, 704-711. Full speech available at http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/ajb72.htm.

Anyhow, welcome to Tubag Bohol.

Chin, will do her part later.

Ka Mike and All,

Yours truly  is the virtual reincarnate of a 1947 comics avenger created by Mars Ravelo. In here, my desire is just to live up to my former self's mission and vision for us Boholanos.

As for Kumander Vargas, he is Epitacio Ramirez in real life, now 66, was the most senior Bol-anon to rise in the hierarchy of the National Democratic Front in the Visayas during his heyday. While suffering from an ailment in 2001, he surrendered, applied for and was granted amnesty by the gov't. He now resides as a law-abiding citizen in Batuan, Bohol.

So you see, I have no undesirable record in the DND as the guys there are completely clueless about  "manga" heroes and their exploits !!

Hulat ko sa bahalina ni Ka Chin .....

Ciao ......

Filipino recounts surviving in Harvard on leftover food

By Volt Contreras
Inquirer
Last updated 10:23pm (Mla time) 06/08/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- Before Oscar Franklin Tan drew raves for his commencement address at the elite Harvard Law School the other day, this young Filipino lawyer had his share of silent, awkward moments when basic things like meals became ''an issue.''

In a candid, light-hearted exchange with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tan shared how campus life could be tough even for excelling foreign students like him in one of the world's premier institutions.

He managed to stretch his limited food budget, for example, by improvising his menu and even collecting ''leftovers'' at school functions.

He also took advantage of his professor's habit of bringing two baskets of apples to class each Friday. Tan saw an opportunity when he noticed that most of his classmates, especially the Americans, ''just ignored'' the treat.

''There was usually at least one basket left. I would bring an extra backpack every Friday and waited until everyone left and had free fruit half the year, thanks to Professor Lawrence Tribe,'' he said.

Tan fondly recalled all these ''embarrassing'' episodes in his e-mail to the Inquirer on Thursday, the day before he stood proud and tall as the commencement speaker at the 2007 HLS graduation rites, an honor bestowed upon him by his class.

The 27-year-old bachelor and 2005 law alumnus of the University of the Philippines completed his master's degree at the premier institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was chosen to speak at the ceremony in behalf of some 700 American and foreign graduates.

''Food was really an issue because I was on a tight budget, having entered Harvard Law practically a fresh graduate,'' said Tan, whose studies were shouldered in part by the HLS, the Ayala Scholarship Fund, his law firm (Angara, Abello, Concepcion, Regala and Cruz law office) where he is an associate, and with a little help from his father, fellow lawyer Edmund Tan.

''Some of the Asian and African students have become notorious for trying to save on food, and looking for free food. I became one of them after I learned that Harvard threw away uneaten food from all the functions and talks (which shocked the Africans in particular), and I just brought the food back to the dorm.''

Chow time in his fourth-floor unit at the Gropius dormitories, ''the ugliest but cheapest'' lodging on campus, often had him ''experimenting with many combinations to save food, such as making sandwiches and buying microwaveable chicken strips.'' He also stocked up on canned soup and tuna whenever there was a sale.

But while his cupboard was almost bare, Tan apparently had in abundance memorable campus experiences, especially with classmates of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Being Filipino with Chinese lineage gave him a ready affinity with East and Southeast Asians. Coming from a former Spanish and then US colony like the Philippines made it easy for him to relate to Americans, Latinos and Europeans, he noted.

''That leaves the Africans. I also had a ready affinity with them because I was from a developing country with postcolonial issues. I'd like to think that each of my classmates identified with me one way or another,'' he said.

A Thai classmate was kind enough to help carry Tan's refrigerator to his fourth-floor unit, since the dormitory had no elevator. A Saudi classmate, apparently familiar with the many Filipino workers in his oil-rich state, could understand most of Tan's sentences in Filipino.

But his international relations were not always that smooth.

''There was one embarrassing moment where a French classmate and I almost had a fight until we sat down and compared our cultures. Our Nigerian classmate had lost a close relative and was feeling very sad, so I e-mailed the class requesting the religious students to pray for him and console him.''

The French classmate then sent Tan an e-mail, expressing "shock that I would violate someone's privacy in such a public manner.''

''We discussed it, and he realized that grief is treated as a community issue in the Philippines (and in other developing countries), where public wakes are held and everyone tries to pass by to pay their respects. It was very new to him,'' Tan recalled.

Take note of this article from the US about toothpaste from China. If this is true and not just progaganda, let's beware....

There are lots of Chinese toothpaste brands now proliferating in the Philippines!

==================================

FDA says avoid toothpaste made in China

By KEVIN FREKING, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The government warned consumers on Friday to avoid using toothpaste made in China because it may contain a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze. Out of caution, the Food and Drug Administration said, people should throw away toothpaste with labeling that says it was made in China. The FDA is concerned that these products may contain diethylene glycol.

The agency is not aware of any poisoning from toothpaste in the United States, but it did find the antifreeze ingredient in a shipment at the U.S. border and at two retail stores: a Dollar Plus store in Miami and a Todo A Peso store in Puerto Rico.

Officials said they are primarily concerned about toothpaste sold at bargain retail outlets. The ingredient in question, called DEG, is used as a lower-cost sweetener and thickening agent. The highest concentration of the chemical found in toothpaste so far was between 3 percent and 4 percent of the product's overall weight.

"It does not belong in toothpaste even in small concentrations," said the FDA's Deborah M. Autor. The FDA increased its scrutiny of toothpaste made in China because of reports of contamination in several countries, including Panama.

The agency is particularly concerned about chronic exposure to DEG in children and in people with kidney or liver disease.

Agency officials said they had no estimate of how many tubes of tainted toothpaste might have made it into the U.S.

"Our concern today is potentially about all toothpaste that comes in from China," Autor said. "Our estimate is that China makes up about $3.3 million of the $2 billion U.S. toothpaste market."

The agency also issued an import alert Friday for all dental products containing DEG. The alert means toothpaste from China will be stopped at the border, she said.

Companies that make brands previously found with DEG will have to prove the toothpaste is free of the chemical before it's allowed into the country. Meanwhile, all other brands of Chinese-made toothpaste will be stopped for testing, something the agency has been doing since May 23.

The import alert posted by the government says DEG has been improperly used in a variety of sedatives, syrups and cough medicines worldwide. Most recently, a cough syrup containing DEG resulted in more than 40 deaths in Panama last September.

The alert says the agency found DEG in three products manufactured by Goldcredit International Trading in China. The products are Cooldent Fluoride, Cooldent Spearmint and Cooldent ICE. Analysis of the products revealed they contained between 3 percent and 4 percent DEG.

The agency also found the chemical in one product manufactured by Suzhou City Jinmao Daily Chemical Co. in China. Analysis of that product, Shir Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste, found it contained about 1 percent DEG.

China's food safety problems have in recent months become a matter of international concern, a situation reflected in trade talks between Chinese and U.S. officials in Washington last week.

Most notably, on March 15, FDA learned that certain pet foods were sickening and killing cats and dogs. FDA found contaminants in vegetable proteins imported into the United States from China and used as ingredients in pet food.

Mr. Ligalig,

What's this rumor that one of your partners in the Talibon Dam expose may have capitulated and has recently become "neutral" to the issue. Is it because he has allegedly been silenced via a share of the crumb of the pie. Can we ask other members of Bacosh or Atty. Timmy Cabatos the veracity of the report.
