I might miss some points! But Enstein is true to his words as a scientist or as an innovator. Happiness as I understand what he meant is a destructive state of mind that renders the mind inutile in developing creative ideas.

A Layman,

Civil Engineering is indeed a noble profession. An ancient one, which attests to the growth of human civilizations through the ages; from bronze age, to iron age, to classic age, to enlightenment, to modern. I find great similarity between Civil Engineering and Medicine. Both professions are specialized and tasked in the maintenance of pathways and the prevention of accumulation of 'traffic'. So that there is easy flow throughout the nation/body. The only remarkable difference is that medicine deals with the human body (maintenance of microscopic aspects of the body that affects the organ/ organismal level); whereas in engineering deals with the national body (or provincial/state body)  and is responsible for the maintenance of roads, bridges, docks etc. So I would say that Civil Engineering and Medicine is at par with each other. One is responsible for the maintenance of civilization, the other is tasked with the maintenance of the human person that lives within said civilization.

On another point, it is I who is lucky to have a father like my dad. Without whom and without whose guidance, I would be nothing. :)

One contrasting aspect between a doctor and a civil engineer is the way how the quality of services are guaranteed. The work or project done by a civil engineer is guaranteed for fifteen years before his liabilities expire. Contrarily, a doctor waives his liability even before he starts his work! LOL

Self-sacrifice enables us to sacrifice other people without blushing. --George Bernard Shaw

Oftentimes, one's dream is challenged by the reactions of other people. Negative reaction includes debasing one's ability to fulfill that dream like , "Paano ka makapag-aral, wala namang hanapbuhay magulang mo? Magtanim ka na lang ng kamote, may aanihin ka pa.", a demeaning side comments that may dampen one's enthusiasm to achieve one's goal. Yet, most dreamers develop the safety net to shield themselves from being pulled down by others (mga talangka!) or, against a hostile environment. They learn so fast of becoming more resilient 'against all odds' even before they obtain their diplomas.

A noble man compares and estimates himself by an idea which is higher than himself; and a mean man, by one lower than himself. The one produces aspiration; the other ambition, which is the way in which a vulgar man aspires. --Marcus Aurelius

This reminds me of a joke,

Inside a little classroom, a teacher taught value education to her pupils.

Teacher: Mark, anong kurso ang gusto mo pag laki?

Mark: Gusto ko mam maging doktor.

Teacher: Bakit isang dokto ang gusto mo?

Mark: Upang gamutin ko ang mga sakit ng aking KAPWA.

Teacher: Very good si Mark. Ikaw naman Lourdes?

Lourdes: Mam, gusto kong maging nurse.

Juan: Mam gusto kong maging KAPWA.

Teacher: Ha? Bakit naman gusto mong maging KAPWA?

Juan: Aron hayahay mam!!!

Teacher: ?!#@*#

When a man reaches the age of 75, he thanks God for the life well lived. When he is able to celebrate his 85th birthday, he thanks God for giving him a bonus of ten years. Pag molapas na siya nuybenta, dili na bonus ang gihatag niya kundi bugnot na. LOL

Mao ba? Maswerte ka sa imong amahan Doc! Pero as I guess mas swerte sya to have you as his child. Civil Engineers are destined to build roads and bridges for human communications to flow smoothly, erect buildings where humans are provided with oportunities to work efficiently and provide a decent living for their families, and houses to provide them shelter. Pero mas superb ang missions ng mga doctors like you.

This is an example of figurative language mixing with physics/ electrical engineering. Am I wrong to assume that you are a Professional Engineer, A Layman?

Yes Doc, a Civil Engineer.
#13
That's exactly right Doc. All individuals have a childhood dream. Often, one's dream is prompted by family conditions and environmental influence. In example, when a child is raised from a poor family and hostile environment, he is prompted to dream a wealthy man someday to alleviate the situation he experiences. He may strive to seek a higher level of learning to hone himself to achieve his goal or any available means of his choice. However, in the process, there is no room for convenience and complacency because one has to struggle the hardest way to achieve that dream.

Here's my viewpoint as a layman about aging and retirement. You may follow this link should you wish to read the full context.

I have to accept the fact that I am going into that direction as you are. Although my physical condition may not manifest such a human transformation, I heard from around children calling me 'Lolo' 'coz of the snow froast at my top but the furnace deep inside of me is still burning as a young carabao. So, I partly affirm such condition with an open mind. LOL! As a matter of fact, it is an honor for me to become the youngest Ninong in two golden wedding rites already, a fete to reckon with among the oldies. And I still hope to add some more in my record book! Well, life must go on 'igan' but as soon as you feel  that sign, be cool and stay young as you are! Merry Christmas to Everyone in TB!

4. Eat green leafy vegetables. Vegetables are beneficial for people with heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, bowel problems, and various cancers. Vegetables are also excellent diet foods because they’re low in fat and high in fiber. Locally, we have cabbage, pechay, kangkong, camote tops (talbos), and spinach.

We cannot make a twist on what the Holy Scripture told Adam and Eve. The Book of Genesis though written in the past will ever reverberate the present and the future. Others, who consider it a myth just find their safe-house of reasoning to conceal their utter lack of concern to help sustain the essence of continuing human reproduction.

Life is always governed by the function of time like the non-living things. Oftentimes we want to defy time for many unreasonable reasons. Beating time is like beating red light in traffic that makes us worry about submissions of unfinished works or works undone. Often, we act like grounded electric connections harming others as well us ourselves. At times like this, we need to call an Electrician to fix the trouble and provide a lifeline to save us from harm and further damage.
#22
Life is like an electric power flowing along every closed circuits in a network. No matter how you turn on the switch if one circuit is disconnected energy is not generated. Like electricity life has to establish a strong connection with one's Creator for it to be energized and eventually provides the light so that others may walk along a brighter path. This poses a greater challenge in everyone of us to kindle our candles and brighten the path so others may live a happy life.

What a warning shot to all of us guys! But each word from Dalai Lama means something for all of humanity to evolve ourselves to higher dimensions of living and to fully understand the meaning of life we often grope to live.  Life amidst of all the troubles and hardships is not worth living so to say. But man, we have to fully understand the purpose why we live often in a messy life and why we hopelessly dream that someday happiness will come along the way like a rainbow. Can we live satisfied with all the happiness we have on earth? I grossly say no, because satisfaction is an indolent attitude that rottens our ambitions to live a happy life. Then, comes sadness amidst all the happiness man has. Man, we will never ever know what else that be to make us totally contented and fulfilled.

CPG is the only president who was not involved in any corruption. He was honest, sincere and a noble person.
We are proud of him,  and probably the only president ever came from Bohol.

CPG reflects a typical trait of Boholanos by serving others first than self or by plain analogy he served first the other provinces before serving Bohol though not that much as we expected. If Bohol was then considered a lowly province, then, CPG made the first big leap towards bringing this province to what she is now and onwards. What he did imprints a Bohol pride that we felt these days.

Congrats to your upcoming book. Feel free to promote it here in TubagBohol once it is out of the press. I learned that if you can provide 500 copies of one book title, National Bookstore would be willing to display it.

Anyhow, we are glad to see you again after a long absence and we hope to read more of your insights on the many issues that define our society today.

God bless you!

Doc Enzo, good day to you!

My 62 yo wife is a diabetic (150-170) patient since three years ago. She's also treated to neutralize her high blood and high cholesterol levels and is maintaining all the prescribed medicines by St. Luke's doctors. One year ago, she was hospitalized due to high fever and the doctors found out another ailment called 'Parkinsons'. Her (locomotion) movement was  badly affected, more particularly her difficulty of walking without some support. Neurologist prescription helps much but there are momentary periods she's unable to walk without canes.

The doctor made us to understand that 'til now Parkinson is an incurable disease. Is this caused by her being a diabetic patient?

Thanks

2. One cannot remember the first one.
3. Go back to number 1.

Some medical experts do not consider brain deterioration as a symptom of aging. It is more of a personal attitude of using it. Brain is part of a human machine that needs to be ignited often to make it working synchronically with the other parts of the human body. In the parlance of politics, brain is a dual dictator (like the Marcoses and call this one analogous to a Marcosian theory)  urging the other body parts to function. The right and left side of the brain affirms the Marcosian theory of dual dictatoship. Remember about 'Brain Dominance Theory'? Few individuals allow the leftside of their brain to dominate the rightside. They become innovative like the scientists, inventors and trendsetters. Extreme dominance of the left makes one a nerd. He he..

Sa Anda kasagaran diha Karlan (tuber) ang ilang gitanom sa gilid sa mga batao. I doubt if planting other root crops like Kamote and Bulanghoy with this kind of soil formation is suitable and productive. So it is really a must that farmers have to be assisted by DA on what crops they have to plant on a particular kind of soil and what kind of fertilizer (I prefer organic) they have to use. Sano, I am referring to the productivity factor of the crops. Kasagaran sa ato mga backyard farming lang but if proper methods are taught the farmers then we could expect more on productivity.

The success of any long term business venture depends on the way the higher management or the owner itself, how to instill work attitudes and culture amongst its officers. Normally, company officers are not allowed to linger within their comfort zones. In fact higher management always insinuate discomforts amongst its officers by raising up intriguing issues (fictitious or real) of company's concern. At times officers are made to engage in healthy battles (of wits and brains) within the company structure. This is one way of saying that convenience is not allowed in any business endeavor which draws down to the way how an individual person has to fulfill his dream for the future. It is nowhere a hermitian rule but in most cases successful people dreamt big and offered themselves the bigger chunk of self sacrifice to achieve their dreams. When one sacrifices himself for any achievable goal he may have, there is no room for convenience along the path because every inch of that path are seemingly unsolvable obstacles  needing mental alertness  and physical strength to surmount each and move forward towards achieving that goal.

The concerned Sangguniang Pambarangay should formalize a resolution to help address the particular issue. As a protocol, this has to be submitted to the MENRO and the Mun. Health and Sanitary Officer to evaluate the actual situation. It the situation poses hazzard to public health and safety, then ask his/her report to complement with the Barangay Resolution. If and when the MENRO and the Sanitary Officer do not act on that resolution because of some obvious reasons, then include in the resolution that the issue is to be raised up to higher level, the PENRO to evaluate and act on the issue. The rule for any concerned citizen is, always raise up any issue of concern to the next hierarchy of authority  if and when it is not acted upon by the lower levels until it becomes a national issue. Why not?

Granting that all the pertinent clearances and permits are applied and secured with, was there any on site inspection report from the people of Parks and Wildlife endorsing the neccessity of cutting those trees based on the above cited conditions before it is approved by its director? Ehem, what is fishy about this Act is that, there is no clause citing the payment scheme per specie of trees to be cut. Nowhere to be found is the provision to replace one old tree to be cut with so much number of seedings per schedule of tree specie. This means that Parks and Wildlife is not under the control of DENR. This just shows that the Parks and Wildlife is an independent body who could be responsible in formulating its own IRR (Implementing  Rules and Regulations) without reference with any of the DENR relevant provisions.

I think Donaire was introduced as a fighter from Talibon Bohol in one of his early fights.   He also visited his native place in Talibon 2 or 3 years ago  ;)

Donaire is now showing signs of his 'Waterloo'. His wife influenced much of his lifestyle and more in his head. Although many Boholano boxing buffs knew very well he's a Boholano by blood like that of Dagohoy because of his seeming invincibility in the ring, he now pretends to be from Gen. San to ride the bandwagon popularity of Pacman who's from that place. In fact his rift from his promoter Bob Arum was due to the insistence of this boy to be treated like the Pacman and be given a break for a mega fight because his head knows that he's a bankable boxer now based on pound for pound ratings. (5th in Yahoo and 4th in Ring Magazine). The problem in the first place is, he  doesn't have yet that big follower as Pacman has worldwide. Second, no other bankable boxer could match his weigh division unless he moves up in weight and fight Yoriorkis Gamboa.

But we knew for sure that he is a true Boholano by blood who lacks that trait of a typical Boholano who is very humble, patient and in like manner, very resilient in every way saan man mapadpad.

One good step will start a fruitful way to realize the noble objective of DAR. With the closer coordination with the DA (Agriculture), the leaders from each of the barangays should be trained how to utilize the land endowed them from DAR. Di pwedeng kanya-kanya. If the land is suited for several varieties of crops, DAR should conduct soil analysis for each locality and recommend planting crops based on the suitability of the actual soil conditions...

"As to working to sustain the program after DAR, the 49 ARCs in 327 barangays of 33 towns in Bohol have been assisted in organizing themselves to facilitate the flow of future government assistance, she said."

This is the most important part of CARP that DAR has to help the farmers sustain the productivity of the lands granted in their names. This covers not only of granting of loans to these farmers because from past experience it ended  a 'flop' and people's money were drained because of governments drastic move to implement the program without a comprehensive plan, control and monitoring system. This is just the latest addition of a string of unsolved killings in Tagbilaran. While many of us are quick to blame the police authorities and our city officials for the present state of our peace and order, we forget that the citizens or the community play an important role in keeping our place safe. This includes reporting any information that would bring the offenders to justice. Eyewitnesses should present themselves to help solve these killings. Those who have vital information should talk to the investigators.

Just be careful when you testify against the offenders. Witnesses now are being harrassed by relatives of the accused to withdraw testimonies.

Thanks for sharing us your inner thoughts about media coverage, including our very own people in the multi-media industry who in one way or another, feed fresh information to the people and take charge of the brain setting maneuvers for packaging or image building whether this be for building up government, private and product image. While this is true in some respect as in advertising, this may not be always true with respect to the hardships experienced by most of our Filipino brethren. The marginalized sector of our people is not minding about how the media cover the political arena if they wanted to destroy a government or not. They are minding on how to make a living and where to find the handful of rice to feed their hungry stomachs. Is it right for us to blame the media for this predicament?

While it is the work of the media under a democratic set up to report the happenings around vital for the awakening of the minds concerned, whether they fabricate their report or not for a blockbuster acceptance should they like it to be, it is still a question on how well the person concern takes on the report whether they be constructive or destructive reports or criticisms. It is still the recipient of the criticism who could qualify whether or not it is destructive or constructive for him. It becomes a destructive one when the people who read the report become affected by the nature of things going on around based on their day to day experience. When they are affected, they go with the media report against the recipient. But, when the media report has no bearing with their day to day activities, they just let go or pass this report out of the other ear, ika nga. So why are there so many Filipinos becoming so disgruntled by our present set up of politics? Is it because of the media people bringing them the report about the massive corruption in the government? No, the people read this kind of a report but their acceptance about it, whether, true or false, depends on how this report affects their lives, and how corruption breeds and makes their lives worst. This is all true not only for the elites, but more so the marginalized sector who feels living a life like a sinking fund seeing no better place to go except joining the protest march in Mendiola for Php500 a day.

Marcos had his own tactic to counter the media coverage against him. He organized the malacanyang press to cover an alleged bombing report against JP Enrile. Enrile then was the closest of his allies being the Minister of National Defense. (I hope all the Filipinos had already forgiven Enrile for being used by Marcos as an instrument for him to fabricate a strong basis to declare P.D. 1081-Martial Law). There really was a bombing incident against Enrile with full media coverage. But it was a mock after all, when Enrile quelled what really had happened when he led the mutiny against his closest of friends during EDSA 1. Did this help Marcos to rebuild his image and perpetuate his power? No! His nationwide electrification, irrigation, and infrastructure projects were not enough to pacify the people who were then affected with mass liquidations, political detentions, military abuses, and mass hunger while they enjoy the lavishness of power. His critics in the media then remained silent because they were curtailed with their freedom of the press. Marcos didn’t know then that the ‘freedom of speech’ essential for a vibrant democracy he suppressed became the ‘freedom of spits’ of most of the Filipinos that topple him from power. Did media play a strong role in toppling Marcos with media industry being sequestered, banned and shot downed? It was clearly the people who were much affected by the abuses of the Marcos government. Who cares?

Way Nada,

Please acknowledge my appreciation in giving our TB members some enlightening points regarding the issue on the proposed reopening of the BNPP as initiated by the incumbent officers of our government. I for one am not against any proposed projects of the government if these would only draw economic benefits for the whole Filipino populace than making them poorer by the minute of the day.

The main point why this project has to be reopened is that the Filipino people had already shouldered much the gargantuan cost of building it from the very start with nothing to gain but losses should this project be discarded permanently. Until now we are still paying for the cost of it, and unfortunately, if it’s still not enough, the unborn generations of Filipinos are already indebted from it before they come to realize the world. Baka sabihin nila, “Kung alam lang namin, sana huwag na kaming ipananganak!”A sad thing to note indeed! And what a total shame for us of course! Nandyan na yan, at sana it has to be done with all the safety precautions intact and with all the worst scenarios affecting the project considered in the study and operations. And because of the huge amount spent, and still has to be expended until fully operational have to be taken into account in determining the cost of power, then we should expect and be ready for the worst scenario. Power increase! Anyway, when worst comes to worst pwede man ta maglamparilya na lang using coconut oil, di ba? Pwede ba sa inyo yon?

Is there really an urgent need to reopen BNPP? We certainly know that our country is almost totally dependent on imported fossil fuels from the oil-reach countries of the world. The meager produce from our very own oil wells, the seemingly hopeless continuing efforts for oil explorations, and the volatility of the oil prices in the world market are just few obstacles to mention with, that would cause many caring brains squeezed in search for alternative solutions.  Although, the oil price now is going down, it could still be considered as a stochastic variable to mention with, very unpredictable and a random behavior so to speak. It keeps on changing even before it reaches the stage of global warming, di ba? So the world including the Philippines really needs to untangle now its dependency from fossil fuels before all our lands become part of the horizon. So, alternative sources have to be exhaustively searched for good. One of the alternatives for sure is the reopening of the BNPP if it benefits many people other than so few of them. Even if high risk is involve in here, and its successful operation is still dark as a moonless midnight, it is still much better to take that risk than not giving it a chance anyway. Anyways and anyhows, pag mag flop ni in the future, at least toa na ta namuyo sa ilawom yuta, sa hukay, di ba? Blame it to the worms, ika nga.

I am for it! Why not?  But is it timely?  I think it should be done now. Why? Not because of my fear of deviating the proverbial saying that, “Do not leave a thing undone for tomorrow, if you can do it today!”, but because we urgently needed it before it’s too late. The government needed it for sure in preparation for our claims at the Spratleys. Hope I am not mistaken! Why not?

Granting that political maneuverings are the same throughout the world and differs only by means of media coverage, how come that our country is still the sluggish country in Asia in terms of economy? The most corrupt country in Asia? If a person's quality and character is reflected by what he does and accomplished, how would you say about our country's politicians? Are they considered, the best? Did you know that number three is a shadow of a flying bat rotated at 900?  That when placed over the full moon  and leaf-less branches of a dying tree at the background, the picture would exactly paint a horrifying image of satanic dimension?

To many, number thirteen is a horrible number because when the bat flies with the number one with it, it may be I who am the next victim of bad luck. The flying bat also eyes you as the number one victim. Abangan!

Today is Friday, March 13. Dalawang bats pero isa lang ang biktimahin. Ako kaya or ikaw?

Reopening of the BNPP raises many issues as expected before it sails smoothly towards its alleged benefits when fully operational. It seems prodding the argument based on political issues is just like creating a bush fire in a wild forest. Meaning to say it will just do more harm than good if any. Nahibawo man tang tanan nga ang klase ng politics sa atong nasod mao nay gitawag ug ija ija, aho aho, or 'to each his own. Ang gipalabon mao ang kahakugan! When greed really comes into view in the minds of our leaders, how could they picture out the benefits of the welfare they intend to serve the whole populace and the generations to come? Thus, reopening of BNPP should not be focused mainly on political ideaologies because the parameters affecting the project are more on environmental, social and economic impact.

Questions relevant to the above issues could be asked like the following:
1. How sure we are that the environment is well protected. Are we prepared to live like what happened in Chernovyl, where the whole city within the 50-km radius from the reactor is totally abandoned because of exposed radiation? All the reactors in that place are now shut down because this nuclear station is no longer viable for operation. If we look at the cost-benefit ratio of the project it is already beyond the ideal level.

2. How about the residents proximate to the location of BNPP, are they willing to be dislocated with their livelihood and businesses in case untoward incident happens, like radiation leaks?

3. From what source do we extract uranium to feed the reactors? Are these sources available locally or for import. How much?  (This figure is needed for power distruibution price analysis). Is there any tendency that our government be under the mercy of the uranium suppliers if in case they would then create a supply monopoly?

4. Is it really cheaper to buy power from this source? I read from an article in the Inquirer that despite of the 50+ nuclear reactors Japan has, buying power from this source is still higher compared to other sources. (TB membrs from Japan please confirm this report please.)
