they say, graft & corruption is due to vote buying, I think it's not...it is because of greed,...this is a vicious cycle...politician wants (as opposed to need) money and commits graft, wants to make more, corrupts the people's choice by buying votes,...perpetuate themselves to want more money...and so on...the voters too are in their own vicious cycle...
This cycle can only be stopped through a multi-dimensional approach...
1. introduce livelihood, or increase the earning capacity of the people so that they could resist the temptation to accept easy money...
2. We have enough laws against graft, corruption and vote buying, government must implement them...strengthen the capacities of COA, give them more teeth, strengthen the Judiciary...etc. meaning effective aand good governance...
3. stop the culture of political patronage, take away or diminish the powers of politicians to appoint or make appointments...be strict on the disbursement of pork barrels, CDF etc.
4. Improve government health care services...so that when the poor need medical assistance or interventions...they don't have to go ask their politicos for money...this should include funeral services etc....
5. Improve education...so that people could arm & educate themselves for the future, for their children to get better jobs, better pay...better leaders, moral leaders,...and to resist the temptation of ..."easy money"...
6. make government works and actions visible even in the remotest part of the country
hahay...di man diay lalim...I could go on and on...as i write one "must do" another one comes to mind...daghan jud diay ta kulang...let's join hands...for if we all strive to do what needs to be done...this collective effort would soon have a snowballing effect that hopefully with prayers could make for a better world...
Everyone has a good intention...the question is...ARE WE DOING ANYTHING?
MAO NA NI.
