Nayabag na si Gullas!!!Di man gani siya kapatarong sa kalidad sa edukasyon sa iyang gipanag-iyang eskwelahan, SPANISH2x pa siya (UV - enrollment still ongoing maski August na). I know why he's into embracing Spanish. His school offers a "call-center-training" (dont know the term) course and you know how badly spanish-speaking agents are needed in the industry.

We can hardly even find 10-year-old kids who can speak our own language - Spanish pa??!!Bansayon pa nato ug maayo atong Binisaya!!!

You're right Angie Gulle! I grew up listening to these "radio-novela" back then. "Gamhanang Baruka" is the name of Adora's mother - Goddess of the mystical world (although im a HE). I like using these names to remind me of the good old days. I would have chosen "Bayugyog" (Adora's giant friend) but there's something about GB - a bit intruiging & mysterious. Hehehe...

And who can recall Ramini, Engkantadang Aninipot, Kulafo (or Ofaluk), Kapitan Umbar and the so many supernatural radio characters (DYHP) in the past....???...nalubong na sa kalimot...

Twas good radio before......

There's a BISROCK song about these characters...one of the fewest Bisrock songs that i like....hehehe...

Spanish is one of our 3 official languages, the other two is english and tagalog. We put  so much emphasis on these 2 foreign languages which left our tagalog out. It is a shame that our national tongue is not proficiently spoken nationwide.

Spanish is part of our identity. For half a Millenia we were part of the Spanish Empire, our culture is Hispanic and Latin.

Our religion, our faith, our cultural fiestas, our novelties, our psyche and way of thinking is Hispanic. Our fatalistic attitude is identical to Catholic Spain's. Why, even our surnames "apilidos" are Spanish.

Spain molded our identity, cultured it, there was no concept of a FILIPINO before Spain.

The Philippines is Spanish, Anglified, and some mixture of Oriental Culture.

But the underlying equivalency is our Hispanic Culture.

To Learn Spanish is to reconnect with our own identity. Our own history.

Respectfully,
Lorenzo

The Anti-Hispanic notions of the past is a effect of American Presence in the Philippines. If you analyze this chronologically and Historically, you will all understand this.

When the Philippines was under Spain, every single Filipino Nativo knew how to read, speak, write in Castillian Spanish. It was the lingua Franca of the day. That is how people communicated with one another back then.

When the United States defeated Spain in 1898 after the Spanish-American War, America applied a policy of Manifest Destiny, which prioritized American legitimacy in the islands. And this policy required the Conqueror, The Americans, to repudiate Spanish presence and apply a negative illustration of the Spaniards before the Filipino Nativos.

American Protestantism grew in the islands, in an effort to uproot and change the Roman Catholicism that Spain had eternalized in the Philippines, a product of 400 years of Spanish presence in the islands.

But when the Americans took over the islands, they found to their surprise that the islands were pretty much, insofar, rather well established and internal infrastructure rather impeccable. The presence of Catholic Churches in every single town, the organization of the political structure in the islands from barangay/Barrio( Pueblo), to municipalidad, cuidad, provincia, regionalidad, y estada (singular national unit) was rather functioning.

So well ordered was the Philippines, again a product of 400 years of Pax Hispanica in the islands, that the United States maintained the status quo in the island. The United States only brought 3 things in the islands:

1) American Educational System
2) American political system
3) More Health facilities

Other than that, the level of Organization in the islands was noticable. Well structured, and worked.

The only way the Americans were to diminish Spain's obvious cultural and physical presence in the islands was to paint a negative view of the Spaniards in academic curriculum as well as to totally and changed the national language from Spanish to English.

An effort to Anglify a Hispanic Catholic Philippines.

100 Years to the day, the United States has not even eradicated Spain's cultural presence. Even 100 years after Spain's removal from the islands; the archipelago continue to pronounce Espana's cultural importance; the very name of our country is the name of Spain's Greatest Emperor. FELIPE, hence the term FILIPINAS.

The Philippine's action to reestablish Spanish into the curriculum is an effect, an evolutionary re-awakening of the Philippine's governmental sphere to the notion of PAX HISPANICA-FILIPINA.

That even after 100 years after independence, after the terrible pacific war, after the independence of the Philippines from America, and after the many attempts to illustrate Spain as the 'evil' one and the 'bad Catholic monster', blood cannot be erased.

The Maternal Link we have to Spain is indispensable and indisputable. 85% of the country remains ROMAN CATHOLIC (Thank you to Espana Madre).

The Link The Philippines has with Spain is a Maternal Bond. We are a product of Mother Spain.

What do you mean by this? Are we actually better-off because of this?

We don't need to learn another language in order to become competitive(English is more than enough - for now). We should instead master our own language - regional or national. I dont see Bisaya or Visayan as a subject in school. How come? Unya, mag-SPANISH pa ta?!

Lorenzo your correct! Reintroducing Spanish in our public high school will help to reawaken our cultural identity. We cannot deny it, Spain brought to us the Judeo-Helenistic culture from the West as the Iberian Peninsula ( Now Portugal and Spain ) once conquered by Rome. But the Spaniards never complained that psyche has been diminished because they were once governed by other races as they were also subdued by the Moors for long 800 years!
Yes, we were much ahead from other countries because of our historical past. Now, we can stride ahead of them if we just recognize the truth, let's look at our historical past with deep since of gratitude. Busca es verdad encontra Dios!

Considering we Filipinos have a Hispanic Culture and are part of the Latin Family, of course. We are not possible without Hispanic Presence. It is a cultural manifest that is absolutely integral to one's own identity.

One cannot simply erase Half a Millenia of Hispanization.

Por Supuesto,
Lorenzo

It was our direct link to Western Europe through the umbilical cord of Spain that spearheaded the enlightenment revolution of Filipinos. During the early 19th century and even in the late 18th centuries, Filipinos were already studying abroad in Europe. Studying in the finest universidades y collegios in SPAIN.

Who else can boast such accomplishments in Asia? Aside from the Filipino? No One.

Spanish Philippines was the envy of Asia in the 17th-19th centuries. To solidify this is the Western notion of regarding The Philippines (Las Filipinas) as the "Pearl Of The Orient"

No other nation in Asia-Pacific can boast of cultural Romanization. The strengths of the Filipino and the Philippines is our Europeanized Culture. A Latinized Culture.
