The Anti-Hispanic notions of the past is a effect of American Presence in the Philippines. If you analyze this chronologically and Historically, you will all understand this.
When the Philippines was under Spain, every single Filipino Nativo knew how to read, speak, write in Castillian Spanish. It was the lingua Franca of the day. That is how people communicated with one another back then.
When the United States defeated Spain in 1898 after the Spanish-American War, America applied a policy of Manifest Destiny, which prioritized American legitimacy in the islands. And this policy required the Conqueror, The Americans, to repudiate Spanish presence and apply a negative illustration of the Spaniards before the Filipino Nativos.
American Protestantism grew in the islands, in an effort to uproot and change the Roman Catholicism that Spain had eternalized in the Philippines, a product of 400 years of Spanish presence in the islands.
But when the Americans took over the islands, they found to their surprise that the islands were pretty much, insofar, rather well established and internal infrastructure rather impeccable. The presence of Catholic Churches in every single town, the organization of the political structure in the islands from barangay/Barrio( Pueblo), to municipalidad, cuidad, provincia, regionalidad, y estada (singular national unit) was rather functioning.
So well ordered was the Philippines, again a product of 400 years of Pax Hispanica in the islands, that the United States maintained the status quo in the island. The United States only brought 3 things in the islands:
1) American Educational System
2) American political system
3) More Health facilities
Other than that, the level of Organization in the islands was noticable. Well structured, and worked.
The only way the Americans were to diminish Spain's obvious cultural and physical presence in the islands was to paint a negative view of the Spaniards in academic curriculum as well as to totally and changed the national language from Spanish to English.
An effort to Anglify a Hispanic Catholic Philippines.
100 Years to the day, the United States has not even eradicated Spain's cultural presence. Even 100 years after Spain's removal from the islands; the archipelago continue to pronounce Espana's cultural importance; the very name of our country is the name of Spain's Greatest Emperor. FELIPE, hence the term FILIPINAS.
The Philippine's action to reestablish Spanish into the curriculum is an effect, an evolutionary re-awakening of the Philippine's governmental sphere to the notion of PAX HISPANICA-FILIPINA.
That even after 100 years after independence, after the terrible pacific war, after the independence of the Philippines from America, and after the many attempts to illustrate Spain as the 'evil' one and the 'bad Catholic monster', blood cannot be erased.
The Maternal Link we have to Spain is indispensable and indisputable. 85% of the country remains ROMAN CATHOLIC (Thank you to Espana Madre).
The Link The Philippines has with Spain is a Maternal Bond. We are a product of Mother Spain.
