Leaders of Cameroon, Nigeria commit to fight against Boko Haram

YAOUNDE - The leaders of Cameroon and Nigerian are committed to working together to fight against the terrorist group Boko Haram and eradicate this evil.

Cameroonian President Paul Biya said in a state banquet welcoming Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday that terrorism is a global threat and only comprehensive response could bring it to an end.

The terrorism mentioned by the Cameroonian president refers to the Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram.

Biya said terrorism threatened social peace and security in the countries around Lake Chad, particularly in Cameroon and Nigeria.

He said terrorism leaves many civilians killed, economic activities affected and refugees increased.

"We can't let this gangrene prosper. We will pool our resources and work together (to stop it)," he said.

Buhari said Boko Haram is the common enemy of Cameroon and Nigeria. This Islamic sect kills civilians and displaces many Nigerians.

Buhari expressed his government's determination to fight against Boko Haram, defend and restore territorial integrity of Nigeria, protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

He promised to continue to work with the Cameroon and other neighboring countries to eradicate Boko Haram.

Buhari arrived in Yaounde Wednesday morning to start his two-day working visit to Cameroon.(PNA/Xinhua)
