The healthcare in the United States is almost stagnant, despite the rising population. This country, has over 305 million citizens yet is deficient in terms of nursing staff in its hospitals, the number of physicians-surgeons, and allied health workers.
As of right now, from my personal experiences in the hospital system and shadowing with surgeons, primary care physicians and talks with nursing staff, the country is in need of 116,000 RNS (registered nurses) to fill in the ranks of the aging nursing staff.
The amount of physicians available is also abhorrable. The United States also is in need of some 30,000-50,000 medical physicians. The rigidity of American medical schools is obvious as it is extremely hard to get into medical school here; that combined with the fact that the number of students graduated and trained are limited, as compared to the assymetrical rising population.
With these growth standards; in 20-30 years, this country will need about 75,000 physicians-surgeons to fill in the ranks.
Many will come from India, the Philippines, etc.
