A bill has been filed at the House of Representatives seeking to nullify the franchise of Bohol Light Company Inc. (BLCI).
Third district Rep. Adam Relson Jala filed House Bill 3355 last Wednesday at the House committee on legislative franchises and committee on rules.
"The franchise issued by the National Electrification Commission (NEC) to Bohol Light is null and void, without legal basis and invalid," Jala said in an interview with the Chronicle yesterday.
The bill, which will have to undergo through the legislative process when congress resumes session in January, is the first move by high official of the province to directly question the legal personality of the utility company.
"If this measure will succeed, it will change to a great extent the lives of city residents," the neophyte lawmaker said.
House Bill 3355, titled "An act revoking the franchise issued to Bohol Light Company Inc. by the National Electrification Commission, to operate light and power services" is "one major concrete step towards finding a resolution on the issue of one of the most important public utility."
If the bill is enacted by congress, Bohol Light could no longer operate as a public utility in the city.
