The Political Wheelchair of the Republic of the Philippines
Every object there is a story, but in contemporary Political scenarios of the Philippines which I can tag as “The Era of the wheelchair dramaâ€.
In Philippine society and cultural aspects, mostly Filipinos have this “heartfelt sympathy†which is a positive characteristic but very much vulnerable and prone to abuse and negative decision of the people which are in hot seat. Like this wheelchair drama is the sign of physical weakness and disability which can be resulted in such excuses and consideration.
The drama of wheelchair and corruptions are now partners in tolerating these pen pushers and corrupt officials. Its up to Juans if they will be emotional to give consideration about their press release “health conditions†but to look the worst reality how many in poor sector suffer because of hunger and psychological effects because of poverty vs. the mansions in Forbes Park, Lamborghini wheels of their children with the extended privelage of using a government plate number like “8â€, Swiss accounts or making Hongkong as their dinner hub only.
What we see during Senate hearing it accumulates lies and dramas (what’s new?) Our politicians are taking their long time to conduct and trial, to prove this alleged “corrupt politician†to be sent to jail? But in political life of the Philippines, who are the convicted politicians are in jail together with normal convicts? NONE! If yes, they must be living like in a fully furnished condominium maybe with a Butler, isn’t? If thats a case I would love to be in jail!
Let me give a brief outlook about these four politicians who are best in wheelchair drama:
Jocelyn “Joc-Joc†Bolante - served as an Undersecretary of Department of Agriculture in 2001 (Under President Arroyo Regime)
Corruption Scandal: The P728-million fertilizer fund scam which He was the mastermind in using the people’s fund (supposed to be an agricultural budget in buying fertilizers to be given to our farmers). It was also alledged that the funds were diverted to Gloria Arroyo’s campaign propaganda and also Joc-Joc’s big percentage. When the controversy broke out in 2006, Bolante fled to the US and sought asylum but unfortunately for him, he has been deported, The US Embassy in Manila writes Bolante telling him that his non-immigrant visa has been revoked and is not valid for travel Bolante is arrested by airport authorities in Los Angeles for using a cancelled visa. When Bolante arrives from the US, he was whisked to St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he remains confined and placed under hospital arrest. He was guarded by the staff from the Senate sergeant-at-arms because Bolante was diagnosed with sleep problem.
