Technology / Re: Windows 8
October 05, 2012, 05:16:05 PM
Running on windows8 on my netbook (iCore3 - 4Gb Memory) and so far so good especially sa performance... though wala pa nako gi-load ang mga applicaitons except for office2012.

Good feature (at least for me) is the virtualization with Hyper-V pero i need to tinker a bit para mo-support sa akoa netbook hardware.  :-\

Para ma-complete ang home theater system ninyo, try mo ug install ug media server (pwde ra gani sa laptop or karaan nga PC). For those maka-afford, pwde ug media appliance ang paliton like (d-link d323 NAS ug ug uban nga mga media devices).

Requirements:
* media server (Serviio - www.serviio.org) - PC or Laptop
* TV nga internet ready - pwde pud computers
* networking tools (switch/router, cables) for the interconnection

** Features
- streams audio, video (SD & HD) and image files in their native format or transcoded in real-time
- streams content from online sources, like RSS feeds, live audio/video streams, web page content
- includes a plugin system to support streaming from non-trivial online sources
- available for Windows, Linux and Mac (with the possibility to run the server part on one platform and console on another)
- ug uban pa

Supported renderers:
* Sony Bravia (Tested)
* Samsung TV and bluray
* Philips TV
* Xbox 360 (Tested)
* ug uban pa

Bottom line, as long as you're connected sa imong home network pwde ka motan-aw ug movies via sa imong streaming server. You can even setup your own netflix-like services from your own network pero lahi na pud ni nga topic.

security sucks ..like too restricted?

sucks because its coming from micro$oft... :)

kidding aside, daghan baya sad ug maayo nga feature ang IE but since its a closed-source application then you never knw what's inside and what are these updates doing sa imong system. for my personal point of view, i feel secured when i knw what services are running on my system even without much powerful antivirus at least i can still get rid those untrusted processes running.

Mike, i worked @ an office from this company called AECOM...They are worldwide, pero Internet Explorer man lagi ang ilang gamit...

Sir, personally this will depend on which environment ang imong setting. For an enterprise, ma-minimize ra ang risk due to enterprise protection solutions in place but for home use then magdepende na sa user unsaon niya pag-hardened ang iyang system... ;) pero still higher ang risk sa home compare nimo to a company setup.

windows 7 professional.. excellent! faster than win xp...

i wonder which one is faster winXP or win7 on a Pentium2 PC... ok let's make it Pentium4?  ;D

need to consider other things like, what kind of hardware, what purpose, security, application installed and other things... maybe for a "short term" kind of solution i'd go for winXP (no patch needed, old applications, for office documents only) but if you plan to support new applications, want to be secured then go for win7 as most of the apps are develop and tested for this and micro$oft doesn't support winXP anymore. *sigh* too bad for my old lappy.

just my 2 cents worth of ideas...  ;)

Google Chrome is nice too. You can type "search keys" directly on the address bar :D like IE9. :P

Hi Kiams, using firefox 3.6.15 here, “search keys” is also applicable in the address bar so you may switch to FF if you like. :D

README: Chrome Privacy

I agree that Chrome is a fast browser but my concern is my privacy… its enough for me to share my gcalendar, gmail, footprints, flickr, youtube (and others?) to Google since I’m using android phone and google’s search engine but not to the point of giving away my system info and my browsing behavior to them.

Quote from: insurectus on February 05, 2011, 02:17:10 AM
hinay ang FF kung daghan plugins or add-ons naka install

Yeah, I agree. You may also try using “vacuum places” – this addon will fragment your sqlite database to boost your firefox. If you're techie enough, you can also tweak your firefox settings and I think I saw Mike’s post about the FF tweak somewhere in TB.

By the way, agree to Mike -- no to IE… security sucks…

So, Funan Mall sells genuine laptop brands? And all new?

Mostly reseller/distributor/repair centre so i can assure you about the authenticity. If makapaabot pa ka around Feb/March 2011 i think mao na ang sched for the next IT show, daghan pa ka mga freebies makuha.

Below are the shops mostly akoa kuhaan ug mga items:

Funan 3rd Floor
Funan 6th Floor

Note: dili ni sya paid ads ha.

Daghan man gud ngari mga gipang-ayo na nga mga products, or ingon "sila" naa sad daw mga fakes (made in tsina) ngari so careful lang then i-check jud ug sakto ang item before nimo paliton.

if ganahan ka ug mga latest gadgets, timing lang ang mga major IT Show (4x in a year) -- gahapon pa jud nahuman ang sale sa Sitex.

For me, adto ko palit sa Funan Mall at least naa ko peace of mind for the after sales support.

Sa pagkatinuod lang, kanang mga taga-Manila are some of the worst English speakers. They pronounce uncle as "ang-kel." Ang eagle as "e-gel". And they think they sound "social" when they rape the English language. Listen Robin Padilla's tv ad, he pronounced muscle as "ma-sel." Even kanang mga hosts sa abs-cbn ug gma7 utro sab. Kulang nalang nila ang Google, they would pronounce it as "go-gel."

British, American, and Australian English speakers would surely laugh them.

What GPS gadget do you have? -- HTC Phone powered by android 1.6 (Donut)
Did you use google map in your GPS gadget? -- google map + compass(snaptic)
How? -- find the google map icon then click to run!  :P

** just activate your GPS then run google map application. if it doesn't show your current location try to select "My Location" (need to have data plan for google map). Very useful if you're not familiar with the place. one time akoa gi-try sa bohol pero dili kaayo detailed ang map sa bohol.

** compass + google map if you don't know asa ka nag-atubang.  :'(

This system crash can be attributed to poor hardware sizing in terms of transaction load and traffic and anticipating database growth as the system went live.  This could also be be attributed also to implementation and upgrade issue.  Whatever the issue is, only GSIS and the system integrator knew (Questronix) what happened.

regarding this crash issue, dapat jud naa parallel run nga mahitabo during sa upgrade since dli tanan upgrade successful. tngali ang sakto nga sizing sa hardware pero possible sad nga ang budget gikuhaan so instead nga enterprise grade nga machine nahimo nalang nga entry level nga server.   >:(

diha sad daw one time nga mopalit daw ang BIR ug new servers then grabe daw ka overkill ang specs then ang presyo sad perte ka overkill. ang file server lang kono daan pila na daw ka terabytes pero ilang nagamit wla lang daw kaabot ug 500Gb and they're spending a lot for the storage rentals per month anaa since SAN man nga setup.

i just want to tell you guys that this browser is a privacy threat to the users and some sysadmins call this thing as "self-inflicted keylogger". one of my proxy servers died early morning (around 1AM +8GMT) because of the huge outgoing traffic to this site: http://cr-tools.clients.google.com while nobody's in the office except for those support people.

another thing is that using this browser, google is monitoring your surfing habits  :-X

oh bad, need to remove this browser out of my box at home.  >:( i thought it's worth a try but seems to be a nasty thing just for the sake of business.

by the way, all the info that i shared came from my server log reviews, research, investigation and some security consultations with our security team and i'm convinced that this is not a better browser. i still love my firefox.  ;D

worm and virus attacks are true to the people using windows mobile as base OS but for iphone, google android and other custom linux... somehow still safe... for now... :) pero for the spam emails then depende na sa email service provider kung unsa ka maayo ilang filtering.

sa giingon nila, risk is always there as long as you're network connected so tanan mag-depende lang jud sa user. one of my colleague told me that he's not using any anti-virus software sa iyang windowsXP SP3 pero updated lang sya sa mga release patches then "never" surf porn sites...  ::) then wala pa jud daw sya masudli ug virus since na-purchase niya iyang PC.

September 05, 2008, 11:06:42 PM
so far soooo gooooood... with noticeable superior browsing speed. :) pero na miss ra nako ang akoa mga add-ons sa firefox so i'll still stick to firefox... for now. ;D

another good thing ani niya kay each tab sa chrome nga imong padaganon kay maghimo sya ug kaugalingon nga process, meaning if naa problema sa pag-open sa usa ka site then kadto ra sad nga tab ang magka-problema the rest sa imong mga gipang-open padayon ra gihapon.

try using http://housecall.trendmicro.com as recommended by insurectus. just make sure that you boot up your PC in "safe-mode with network" then go to that site, we've been using this housecall for our company ITSupport for some years now.

naa sad diay times nga mga malware nga based on countries, one time we encounter malaysian malware which is removable lang sya sa malaysian nga anti-virus. hmmm sounds fishy... anyway, good luck!

oist kumpyansa sad mo nga naa na baya sad ni sa mactan, a year ago paingon ko sa china ila sad ko giingnan nga naa daw sila bag-o nga rule (dapat naa daw papers nga approved nila kung ipadala ang pinoy worker abroad for support).

To think more than 5x ko magsulod-gawas sa china in a year para support nila then moingon lang nga naa new rule? :-X

Technology / Re: Speedtest
July 12, 2008, 08:23:32 PM
basta ang imporate is ayaw pag-test sa inyong provider nga speed test site... or else you just end up testing within sa ilang network which is expected jud na nga above average ang speed nila.

if ang imong provider is PLDT then ayaw gamita ang PLDT nga speedtest site, try ang globe nga speed tester. ;D

na-shock gani ko kay nakadawat mi ug email last monday (june 09, 2008) from our philippine office nga wa daw  sila work due to the celebration sa independence day.  :o

not sure if company ba ang nag-declare pero kasagaran sa panahon ni arroyo kay ipang-move man gud ang mga public holidays so i suspect nga govt gihapon ang nag-declare.
#89
pareha ra sad gud sa industrial engineer (IE) - instant engineer ;D
#90
for me broad kaayo ang computer engineering, much better pa tngali nga gihimo nila as part of electrical engineering (major in robotics or embedded systems, others) since ECE and CompE gkan man na tanan sa electrical engineering.

Quote from: EL MUNDO on May 28, 2008, 01:21:19 PM
puwede man nga gamiton nila after graduation...pero kasagaran kay dili man...

pwde ra man mogamit ka sa title nga engr pero dili man tngali na mahimo nga official for public documents since wa man ka ma-register sa PRC.
#91
Maybe 80-90% of CompE's goal is to work abroad or at least assigned to other countries so there's no point of having that title in the Philippines. ;D

libre ang ccleaner maam ;) been using this application for some time na, pero "not all junks" iyang ma-remove.

basin lahi na imong gi-click ;D
#93
hi grazie, ang tomato brand ni sya sa motherboard ;D anyway, back to the question...

why not check the local shops in ormoc then make some arrangement for a maintenance contract as part of the purchased set of PC para at least safe ka sa mga maintenance nga issue then minus the shipment cost pa. hinoon, depende pud na sa imong setup ug imong plano sa cafe. ;)
#94
please take note that fastwin and 5J's puro ni sila namaligya ug mostly mga second hand items. some of the second hand products nila are modified to fit sa needs sa local market (e.g. power supply ug uban pa).

;) possible nga powered by HP... heheh or worst... tomato nga motherboard.

good luck sa pagpangita!
