If you have relatives or friends in U.S. or Singapore, you buy your laptop there. If a laptop is sold 40Kpesos in the Philippines, it's just 15Kpesos in the U.S.

kung PC lang unta ok ra way support after nimo mapalit pero laptop man then gamay ra man tngali parts ug moayo sa atoa then go for better after-sales support. Personally, i prefer Dell and Fujitsu since tested na ni nako sila nga mga brands. ayaw lang ang acer kung pwde, yes cheaper sya compared to other brands pero dali kaayo moinit ang base niya then later magkaproblema ka sa iyang performance. ;)

Mahal, yes, pero they are worth the money jud, 'day.

I am still using my 2008 Sony Vaio. No problem at all.

The Macbook or the Macbook Pro is, by far, really worth the money.

Mo spend ka extra, but you the product will last long.

mas barato ang notebook at very portable. Mas dako ang capacity sa laptop mao nga mas mahal. Palihog bana-banaa kon unsa ang imong mga panginahanglan sa gadget nga imong gamiton kada adlaw.

actually naa na man gd PC sa balay and it has to be a laptop rather than a notebook kay dili kadaog ang notebook sa mga programs that i will be using for my course.. like programming(java netbeans) it has to be atleast a dual core and atleast a 2gb ram para dili mag kamang akong programs.. the reason na i wanted to secure a laptop is because it's not all the time na makagamit ko sa pc dire sa balay kay both my bro and dad are internet freaks and hassle kaayo during projects or research kay naay mag atang ug kanus-a ko mahuman aporahon ko.hehehee.. and dili sayon mag gama ug projects sa programming if e pressure ka, so much better if mag laptop atleast pud ang mga files nako tanan ready sa laptop bitaw maka hassle man gud ug mag sige lang salig sa portable flashdrive(or what is usually known as USB) kay maoy maka angin ug ka corrupt ng mg files tungod sa mga virus kay bisan asa lang ipansak ang usb.ehehheheh. end of story.haha

 unsa may model/year nang imong gilili nga Gateway, lanni? i have posted here  a review of a Gateway product, relatively new. hope it helps your choices.

Sep 3 2009 - Gateway's afforable NV5214u takes a chance by using the AMD platform instead of Intel but it actually succeeds. While just slightly slower than Intel based budget laptops, the AMD can hold its and even surpasses the capabilities found in Intel's integrated graphics. Sure, it won't be a gaming platform, but it does well with HD video and casual gaming with older titles. The trackpad button bar may take some getting used to and beware of viewing the display off angle by tilting it back too far or too close.

Pros

    * Very Affordable
    * Strong Integrated Graphics
    * Full Sized Keyboard with Numeric Pad

Cons

    * Poor Vertical Viewing Angles on Display
    * Raised Trackpad Button A Bit Akward

Description

    * AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 Dual Core Mobile Processor
    * 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 Memory
    * 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    * 8x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Burner
    * 15.6" WXGA (1366x768) Wide LED Backlit Display With 1.3 Megapixel Webcam
    * ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3200 Integrated Graphics
    * v.92 56Kbps Modem, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wireless
    * Four USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, 5-in-1 Card Reader
    * 14.6" x 9.8" x 1.5" @ 6.8 lbs.
    * Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Works, PowerDVD, Norton Internet Security

Guide Review - Gateway NV5214u 15.6-inch Budget Laptop PC

Sep 3 2009 - Gateway's NV5214u is powered by an AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 dual core processor instead of the more common Intel Pentium Dual core found in most budget laptop PCs. While it does perform slightly behind Intel's offering in many tests, it is generally not that noticeable to the average user to make a difference. It would have been nice to see PC2-6400 DDR2 memory used but it shouldn't be faulted with its low price.

The 15.6-inch display uses an LED backlit to help reduce the power consumption and provide it with a very bright and colorful appearance. The glossy coating works well indoors but can cause a fair amount of reflections in certain lighting. The ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics are a clear step up from the Intel GMA. It easily handles high definition video streams without issue and is capable of some lighter 3D gaming fare, albeit without high detail settings.

With the wider 16:9 aspect ratio display, Gateway had some additional width on the NV5214u to manage to put in a full sized keyboard with a numeric keypad on the right hand side. It uses a flat chicklet style of key without the isolate design. It works quite well and has a nice feel. The trackpad is recessed slightly with a raised single bar button design. The trackpad itself is fine but the button can be awkward at times.

Battery life on the NV5214u was quite good for the relatively small battery pack. In my video playback tests, the laptop was able to achieve just under two hours of playback before shutting down. This translates into about three to four hours of typical non-intensive usage.

For a price of just over $500, the Gateway NV5214u offers a good overall package for those wanting a decent performing laptop with solid design elements.

dili na sila pamilya... gateway ug emachines ang pamilya...

@lanni - if ganahan ka, sa US ka palit then ipamail sa Pinas if sa Pinas ka using Johnny Air.  Mas makasave jud ka then daghan pa ka choices.

Just a warning, be careful with HP laptops.  So far mao nay pinakadaghan ug reklamo, recalls and etc.

If yoiu want durability and power and a price beater, go for Asus.

also, if ganahan ka core 2 or i series processors, naa man laptops nga gagmay, 13"... or rather get a macbook pro.

oh right right sorry for the wrong term.hehe ;-) well, yeah naay 13" ra na laptops that can carry that kind of processor the only problem is limited ang products diri sa bohol mao lisod e decide.. the order sa US thing and padala sa johnny air,that was my first option but my mom said she thinks it is risky since she is in UK and dako2x pa ang additional fees cause she has to send the money pa to my tita in US with the shipping fee pa gyud para sa johnny air so,,kuya jas diba murag pari-pariha ra ang cost kung ingon ani ang situation?

yah-yaa diay jud ko kuya david.. haha.. ayaw ko awaya oi.. im still weighing options man.. lisod uroy ug pataka lang pud ko ug palit ug laptop without thinking the specs basta lang kay naa na koy laptop..aron gud pud dili mahayan nako akong paliton, not merely entertainment baya ang gamit sa akong laptop.. for programming course man siya so i should be thorough in choosing the best laptop that's worth the money.

sakto ka lani, di man ni imo niyaya. in fact, to go through all these hassles nga mag-canvass pa ug mo-dokdok diri (thru your cell) aron mangayo og further infos is a very laudable thing. kay ubang mga bata ron, modretso na man og pangayo, dili na maghunahuna og unsay laing options.

find what is closest to your need, with good reviews though not necessarily the best. wa man juy perfect computer, naa ra pod nas pag-amoma nimo. ug abusahan, dali ra jud na maguba bisan pag tag-pila nang imong laptop.

oh right right sorry for the wrong term.hehe ;-) well, yeah naay 13" ra na laptops that can carry that kind of processor the only problem is limited ang products diri sa bohol mao lisod e decide.. the order sa US thing and padala sa johnny air,that was my first option but my mom said she thinks it is risky since she is in UK and dako2x pa ang additional fees cause she has to send the money pa to my tita in US with the shipping fee pa gyud para sa johnny air so,,kuya jas diba murag pari-pariha ra ang cost kung ingon ani ang situation?

nope... mas makasave gihapon if sa US.  take this for an example, nag-order ko laptop from US worth $800 then johnny air is $100, so $900 tanan.  But that laptop is worth 65k sa pinas...

my friends even ordered macbook pros worth $1300 and still end up saving 5k-15k, some even 25k...

pero if ganahan ka sayon, try searching sa buy and sell section sa www.istorya.net/forums . naay daghan didto...

I had a bad experience with my HP laptop way back in my OFW days but fortunately I got my full refund. Here in Visayas specifically, I strongly recommend HP products due to their after sales. Most of my friends claimed their 100% support or replacement for the defective units.

You can choose among  Toshiba (Satellite),  MAC Book Pro, Sony, ASUS. Been using all this brands and it gives me satisfaction.

IMHO, if pang studyante lang na panggamit, dili necessary na high end kuhaon. Daghan karon summer sale ranging from Ps 25K to Ps 30K.  Its a good buy na (asus, hp, etc).  Ang importante naa warranty and after sales support.

Fore!
