Bible Study / Re: The Parables of the Holy Bible
May 31, 2010, 10:16:15 PM

THE PARABLE OF THE ARROGANT GUEST
Luke 14:1, 7-11

1 One sabbath when he went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they were watching him. 7 Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, 8 "When you are invited by any one to a marriage feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest a more eminent man than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, `Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, `Friend, go up higher'; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. 11 For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

2. Introduced from another country: not native to the place where found (Merriam-Webster)

THE BAIT
by John Donne

COME live with me, and be my love,
And we will some new pleasures prove
Of golden sands, and crystal brooks,
With silken lines and silver hooks.

There will the river whisp'ring run
Warm'd by thy eyes, more than the sun ;
And there th' enamour'd fish will stay,
Begging themselves they may betray.

When thou wilt swim in that live bath,
Each fish, which every channel hath,
Will amorously to thee swim,
Gladder to catch thee, than thou him.

If thou, to be so seen, be'st loth,
By sun or moon, thou dark'nest both,
And if myself have leave to see,
I need not their light, having thee.

Let others freeze with angling reeds,
And cut their legs with shells and weeds,
Or treacherously poor fish beset,
With strangling snare, or windowy net.

Let coarse bold hands from slimy nest
The bedded fish in banks out-wrest ;
Or curious traitors, sleeve-silk flies,
Bewitch poor fishes' wand'ring eyes.

For thee, thou need'st no such deceit,
For thou thyself art thine own bait :
That fish, that is not catch'd thereby,
Alas ! is wiser far than I.

Does it necessarily explain that, the reason why justice is always delayed if not denied is because synonymously it is evil to carry revenge. The law of nature plays in the midst.

Evidently, revenge and justice are far from being synonymous, not even when revenge is used as a teaching method.

Jokes and Humor / The Bishop and the Ass

The Bishop and the Ass

A preacher wanted to raise money for his church and on being told that there was a fortune in horse racing, decided to purchase one and enter it in the races. However at the local auction, the going price for horses was so high that he ended up buying a donkey instead. He figured that since he had it, he might as well go ahead and enter it in the races. To his surprise, the donkey came in third! The next day the local paper carried this headline:

'PREACHER'S ASS SHOWS’

The preacher was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again, and this time it won. The paper read:

‘PREACHER'S ASS OUT IN FRONT’

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the preacher not to enter the donkey in another race. Now the paper headline read:

’BISHOP SCRATCHES PREACHER'S ASS’

This was too much for the Bishop, so he ordered the preacher to get rid of the donkey. The preacher decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent. The paper headline the next day read:

’NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN’

The Bishop was livid with rage. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10.00. Next day the headline read:

’NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10.00’

The Bishop fainted. When he came to, he ordered the nun to buy back the donkey, lead it to the plains where it could run wild and free. Next day, the headline in the paper read:

‘NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE’

The Bishop was buried the next day.

That is true even our language can be harsh to non-Filipinos. Even the Arabic language in Southern Philippines is very harsh to the Ilongos in Central Visayas.

However, I would say German language may have some hard impact on the listener because its heavy and the accents are really strong. It sounded lyrical, sounding like someone is gargling a mouth full of marbles. I believe the German language might sound a little heavy and thick to other foreign countries.

The Laborer and the Snake

A SNAKE, having made his hole close to the porch of a cottage,
inflicted a mortal bite on the Cottager's infant son.  Grieving
over his loss, the Father resolved to kill the Snake.  The next
day, when it came out of its hole for food, he took up his axe,
but by swinging too hastily, missed its head and cut off only the
end of its tail.  After some time the Cottager, afraid that the
Snake would bite him also, endeavored to make peace, and placed
some bread and salt in the hole.  The Snake, slightly hissing,
said:  "There can henceforth be no peace between us; for whenever
I see you I shall remember the loss of my tail, and whenever you
see me you will be thinking of the death of your son."

No one truly forgets injuries in the presence of him
   who caused the injury.

It is but proper for the Farmer to suffer the consequences of his failure. He failed because he was being too emotional in carrying out his punitive action. Which is perhaps why, as the proverb goes, "revenge is a dish best served cold".

May 31, 2010, 08:11:24 AM

Remember those short, short childhood stories with a punch line, er, moral lesson? Those were likely among the many well-loved Aesop's fables known all over the world.

What is your favorite fable? Mine is the following:

The Frog And The Ox

"Oh Father," said a little Frog to the big one sitting by the side of a pool, "I have seen such a terrible monster! It was as big as a mountain, with horns on its head, and a long tail, and it had hoofs divided in two."

"Tush, child, tush," said the old Frog, "that was only Farmer White's Ox. It isn't so big either; he may be a little bit taller than I, but I could easily make myself quite as broad; just you see." So he blew himself out, and blew himself out, and blew himself out. "Was he as big as that?" asked he.

"Oh, much bigger than that," said the young Frog.

Again the old one blew himself out, and asked the young one if the Ox was as big as that.

"Bigger, father, bigger," was the reply.

So the Frog took a deep breath, and blew and blew and blew, and swelled and swelled and swelled. And then he said: "I'm sure the Ox is not as big as this." But at this moment he burst.

Moral lesson: Self-conceit may lead to self-destruction.

21-day erection renders man impotent
Tue, Mar 30, 2010
The Daily Chilli

A 55-year-old man in Kolkata, India, had to be rushed to the emergency room after having an erection for 21 days!

According to the doctors who attended to him, the father of two - who was not on Viagra, was suffering from priapism - a persistent, usually painful erection that lasts for more than four hours and occurs without any sexual stimulation.

It happens when blood in the penis becomes trapped and is unable to be drained off.

Yes, it's a medical condition that can affect males of all age groups, including newborns.

However, priapism usually affects men in between the ages of 20 to 50.

"It took him three weeks to seek medical help. That's way too late," Dr Avishek Mukherjee, the head surgeon in charge, was quoted bywebmd.com.

"He should have seen a doctor after he had a non-stop erection for six hours, because it could kill him or damage his penis."

The doctors performed emergency surgery on their patient. But it was too late.

It is confirmed that the man is now suffering from permanent erectile dysfunction.

Hagip-ot ug tunukon man ang dalan ning kalibutan
Hataas ug tagiptip man ang kabukiran
Apan wala kini mamahimong babag sa akong pagalaktan
Nga ikaw, sa gugma akong pagahalaran.

Nagpangidlap nga man ang kabito-onan,
Nanag-awit nga man usab ang kalagman
Maoy kini buhing timailhan
Sa dakong gugma nga kanimo man lamang.

Kinahanglan pabang ikaw akong pagapurong-purongan

Niining kabus apan ambisyoso kong dughan.

Niining kabus apan ambisyoso kong dughan.
Ayaw intawon diha Inday pagpalingog-lingog
Kay gibinhod na sa taman kining akong mga itlog.

Ang tuba sa baybay, patente moangay;
Talaksan nga dyutay, puno ang malaway.

Dandansoy, drink some tuba, Buddy;
No, I won't drink at all, tuba is bitter-sour.

Tuba sold on the shore ought to get a patent,
For a little glass of it will make you drool.
