Weird and Extreme / Can Elon Musk Go To Mars?
November 28, 2024, 07:41:14 PM

In 2016, Elon Musk said SpaceX would go to Mars in 2018 and send humans in the mid-2020s. Both dates have now come and gone.

No SpaceX ships have traveled to Mars — or plan to. When (if ever) do you think Musk will deliver on his promises and get humans to Mars?

For context, in April of 2016, SpaceX tweeted, "Planning to send Dragon to Mars as soon as 2018. Red Dragons will inform overall Mars architecture."

Then in September of 2016, Musk restated this claim and fully unveiled his grand plan for establishing a human settlement on Mars. At the International Astronautical Congress in Mexico, he said he anticipated sending the first humans in the mid 2020s.

While he did acknowledge that the timeline was ambitious and not guaranteed, as we approach 2025, both timelines will have passed. And sadly, SpaceX hasn't sent any ships to Mars — much less humans.

Workplace & Productivity / Amazon Two Pizza Rule
November 28, 2024, 05:06:57 PM
This message is awaiting approval by a moderator.

Jeff Bezos built Amazon with one simple rule:

"If two pizzas can't feed the team, it's too big."

I learned this recently, and it completely changed how I think about teamwork work.

Here's How It Can Transform Your Business Too. 🍕🍕

"Two Pizza Rule" shaped Amazon's culture of innovation and growth:

The Two-Pizza Rule is rooted in Bezos' belief that small, autonomous teams are more productive than large, bureaucratic ones.

What does that mean? Small teams work better. Period.

Here's why:
👉 Faster Decisions: No waiting around for approvals.
👉 Clearer Communication: Fewer people, less confusion.
👉 Higher Accountability: Everyone contributes meaningfully.

By limiting the size of teams, Bezos ensured that every member contributed meaningfully and avoided the pitfalls of "groupthink" and overcomplexity.

Amazon's structure revolves around what they call "Two-Pizza Teams."

Each team is small enough to be fed by two pizzas, typically 5-7 people.

Teams are given the freedom to innovate and make decisions without relying on higher-ups for approval.

Each team has full responsibility for their product or project, from development to execution.

This approach encourages entrepreneurial thinking within the company, treating each team as a mini-startup.

The Two-Pizza Rule has directly contributed to Amazon's success by fostering an innovation-first culture.

This mindset has driven Amazon's biggest innovations:

✅ Alexa was created by a small team encouraged to experiment.
✅ Amazon Prime came from a focused team figuring out how to lock in customer loyalty.
✅ AWS (Amazon Web Services) started as a small internal idea—and is now Amazon's most profitable division!

The Two-Pizza Rule isn't just about productivity—it also improves employee satisfaction and engagement.

- Smaller groups mean deeper connections and more effective teamwork.

- Team members feel more responsible for their outcomes, leading to higher motivation.

- Less time is wasted on unnecessary meetings and approvals, leaving more time for innovation.

Bezos' Two-Pizza Rule offers a simple but powerful lesson: less is more.

Keep teams small and focused, and give them autonomy to innovate.

This approach can help any business, regardless of size, to move faster, think creatively, and achieve more with less.

So, whether you're running a tech startup, a growing business, or a small team, remember this:
Keep it simple. Keep it lean. And let your people innovate.

I am already including it on my list of implementations 😊

What do you think—can the Two-Pizza Rule work for your team? Let's discuss below!

November 28, 2024, 01:28:03 AM

Basketball | NBA-PBA / Shawn Kemp Dedication
November 27, 2024, 07:58:52 PM

"I LET THEM KNOW": In his rookie year, Shawn Kemp played just 13.8 MPG. He was so frustrated, that after Sonics games, he'd go to local Seattle courts and dominate pickup games against fans to show them how good he was 😳

So many people came out to watch 'The Reignman,' that the city shut down streets and police had to control crowds. The SuperSonics then made him stop.

Kemp: "[Sonics] didn't realize my drive. If they weren't gonna let me play, I was gonna let the whole city see. Guys don't have that type of dedication anymore." 💪

Happy 55th birthday, Shawn Kemp! 🎉

Zaha Hadid Architects is building a new scientific research center in Uzbekistan, using a low-tech solution to maintain comfortable temperatures. The Alisher Navoi International Scientific Research Centre will feature a passive cooling system inspired by traditional architecture, with large arches and expansive windows.

The arches, made from local brick, are designed to capture and channel wind into the building, naturally cooling the air. In the hottest months, fans and water misting will assist the system. Even without wind, the arches create a chimney effect, allowing warm air to rise and escape, promoting ventilation.

Covering 23,000 sq m (almost 250,000 sq ft), the center will house the Navoi State Museum of Literature, research areas, a workshop, and 3,500 historical books and manuscripts. It will also feature 13 exhibition halls around a courtyard, encouraging collaboration in literature, research, and the arts.

No completion date has been announced yet.

Book Reviews / 10 Most Influential Russian Writers
November 24, 2024, 04:00:08 PM

If you're looking to explore Russian literature, here are ten of the most influential and celebrated Russian authors whose works have shaped both Russian and world literature:

1. Fyodor Dostoevsky

Known for his psychological depth and exploration of existential themes, Dostoevsky's masterpieces like Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov, and Notes from Underground examine guilt, faith, morality, and the human psyche.

2. Leo Tolstoy

Tolstoy's epic novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina are known for their intricate character studies and sweeping portrayals of Russian society. His work addresses themes of family, love, faith, and the search for meaning.

3. Anton Chekhov

A master of the short story and a pioneer in modern drama, Chekhov wrote works like The Cherry Orchard and The Seagull, capturing the subtle complexities of everyday life with nuance and insight.

4. Alexander Pushkin

Often called the father of Russian literature, Pushkin's works, including Eugene Onegin and his poetry, helped establish Russian as a literary language and influenced nearly every Russian author who followed.

5. Nikolai Gogol

Gogol's satirical novels and stories, such as Dead Souls and The Overcoat, mix the surreal with social critique, providing sharp commentary on Russian bureaucracy and societal absurdities.

6. Ivan Turgenev

Known for his novel Fathers and Sons, Turgenev depicted the generational clash between conservatives and liberals in Russian society. His lyrical prose and realistic style have made him a key figure in Russian literature.

7. Mikhail Bulgakov

Best known for The Master and Margarita, Bulgakov's works are full of satire, humor, and mysticism, exploring themes of faith, power, and the corrupting influence of bureaucracy.

8. Boris Pasternak

His novel Doctor Zhivago offers a poignant portrayal of the Russian Revolution and its impact on individuals. Pasternak's work reflects the struggle between personal freedom and political oppression.

9. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

A Nobel laureate, Solzhenitsyn's works like One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich expose the brutal realities of Soviet labor camps, exploring themes of survival, resilience, and morality under oppression.

10. Vladimir Nabokov

Although he later wrote primarily in English, Nabokov's early Russian novels, like The Gift and Invitation to a Beheading, as well as his later Lolita, showcase his distinctive prose style, wordplay, and insight into human psychology.

These authors capture the vastness of Russian history, culture, and philosophy, offering readers profound and often challenging insights into the human experience. Each of their works invites readers to explore Russian literature's rich traditions and lasting impact on world literature..

The agreement with Airbus covers firm orders for up to 102 A321neo, plus 50 A320neo Family purchase rights.

This acquisition --- which has a minimum commitment of 70 aircraft --- is the largest in Philippine aviation history, valued at approximately USD $24 billion (PHP 1.4 trillion) based on list prices for the entire 152 aircraft order. This purchase agreement reflects CEB's unwavering optimism for the future of air travel and steadfast commitment to meeting the evolving needs of passengers.

"The selection of Airbus and Pratt & Whitney underscores our focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, ensuring that we continue to deliver the highest standards of service while significantly reducing our carbon footprint," said Michael Szucs, chief executive officer at Cebu Pacific. "This milestone signals our ongoing dedication to expanding air travel accessibility and affordability, while supporting the Philippines' broader economic growth and connectivity goals."

Airbus said the purchase agreement is a testament to the airline's confidence in its products and a positive signal for the aviation industry's recovery.

"The A320 Family has supported Cebu Pacific's domestic and short-haul international network growth over the last two decades. We're grateful to the airline for its continued endorsement of our bestselling single-aisle product line. The A321neo is highly regarded for its unparalleled economics, performance and fuel efficiency. We're confident that these additional A321neo will contribute strongly to the all-Airbus operator's next phase of expansion as one of Asia-Pacific's leading low-cost carriers," said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, executive vice president, sales of commercial aircraft business at Airbus.

"This latest order demonstrates the growing opportunities for aviation in the Philippines and the larger Asia Pacific region. The GTF engine will enable Cebu Pacific to continue to expand the number of routes it offers to passengers, while delivering industry-leading fuel efficiency and sustainability benefits," said Rick Deurloo, president of commercial engines at Pratt & Whitney.

CEB was advised by Blue Skies Consultants on the new transactions with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney.

#ThoughtfulThursday: Gen Zs and Scams

A study by Central Philippine University - CPU reveals why Gen Z may be more vulnerable to scams. The findings indicate that many young people struggle to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent opportunities, often making hasty decisions without thoroughly analyzing the details. Emotions, such as the excitement of earning money quickly, drive these choices, coupled with a strong desire for financial independence. High expectations for rapid returns make Gen Z more trusting and susceptible to scams.

LOOK | DAVAO CITY TRIPLES INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE IN 2023, SURPASSES TARGET FOR 2024

The Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) has achieved a record-breaking performance, approving incentives for companies with a total investment of ₱3.38 billion in the first nine months of 2024—three times the investment amount recorded for all of 2023.

The city's sister city agreements have also played a crucial role in attracting foreign investors. Among these, the partnership with Jinjiang, China, established in 2018, has been the most successful. This collaboration brought in major projects, including a ₱24-billion steel mill plant, which is set to commence operations soon.

Workplace & Productivity / The Secrets of Moving Forward
November 22, 2024, 02:03:50 AM

"Ganbatte!" by Albert Liebermann explores the Japanese concept of persistence and resilience in the face of challenges, translating the term into practical advice for achieving success and fulfillment.

Here are ten lessons from the book:

1. Perseverance Is the Key to Success: The core of Ganbatte is the idea that continuous effort, no matter the obstacles, is crucial to achieving long-term success. Persistence is valued more than talent or luck.

2. Focus on Process, Not Just Results: Success is not just about reaching the goal, but about embracing the journey. Focusing on improving your skills and staying consistent in your efforts leads to meaningful achievements.

3. Small Steps Lead to Big Progress: Instead of being overwhelmed by large goals, break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. Incremental progress can lead to significant outcomes over time.

4. Resilience in the Face of Failure: Ganbatte encourages seeing failure as a learning experience. Each setback is an opportunity to grow and come back stronger, rather than a reason to give up.

5. Cultivate Patience: Success doesn't happen overnight. The Ganbatte mindset requires patience and a long-term perspective, understanding that persistence over time brings results.

6. Stay Committed to Your Purpose: Having a clear sense of purpose is essential for enduring difficulties. Knowing why you're striving for a goal helps you stay motivated through tough times.

7. Discipline Beats Motivation: While motivation can fluctuate, discipline and routine are what keep you moving forward. Rely on habits and structure to stay productive even when motivation wanes.

8. Adaptability Is Key: Ganbatte doesn't mean blindly pushing forward. It's important to be flexible and adapt your approach when necessary, finding new ways to overcome challenges without losing sight of your goal.

9. Master Your Craft: Excellence comes from dedicating yourself to mastering your craft. The Japanese concept of Kaizen—continuous improvement—is closely tied to Ganbatte, encouraging you to always strive for growth.

10. Find Strength in Community: Success is often a collective effort. Surround yourself with supportive people who share your values and encourage you to keep going when times are tough.

These lessons reflect the essence of Ganbatte!—a mindset of determination, resilience, and continuous improvement that can be applied to any area of life. By adopting this philosophy, individuals can achieve their goals and thrive despite challenges.

Talk of the Town / Biophilic Environment
November 07, 2024, 05:41:13 PM

Creating a biophilic environment for cities and buildings isn't just about adding greenery—it's about regenerative design that restores both people and nature. Here's how URDX approach it:

🌿 Key Touchpoints: We start by identifying the most impactful areas—entrances, communal spaces, streetscapes—where immersive natural elements like green walls, trees, and water features can immediately engage and soothe. Secondary spaces, like corridors and rooftops, add subtle yet powerful contributions to the overall ecosystem.

🦉 Multi-Level Greenery: Think in three levels— Primary habitat (ground level parks, wetlands and plazas), Complementary habitat (mid-level green façades, water features and balconies), and (Supplementary Habitat) rooftop gardens and patches. Each layer provides vital habitats for birds and wildlife, while regenerating urban ecology.

🌱 Restorative Spaces: It's more than just nature—it's about creating spaces that actively regenerate the environment, reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and offer a sense of calm and well-being to everyone who passes through.

Biophilic, regenerative design connects people to nature while restoring ecological balance. Each touchpoint matters—for the environment, for wildlife, and for human health. 🌳💧

OTHER HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Refer to Weather Advisory No. 14 issued at 5:00 AM today for the Heavy Rainfall Outlook associated with MARCE.

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.

• Significant to severe impacts from typhoon-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 4.
• Moderate to significant impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 3.
• Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.
• Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.

Furthermore, the northeasterly wind flow and the periphery of MARCE will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):

• Today (7 November): Zambales, Bataan, and Polillo Islands
• Tomorrow (8 November): Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, and Ilocos Region.
• Saturday (9 November): Batanes and Babuyan Islands

Coastal Inundation
There is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge with peak surge heights exceeding 3.0 m above normal tide levels in the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union. Refer to Storm Surge Warning No. 7 issued at 2:00 AM today for the details.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is hoisted over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon. For more information, refer to Gale Warning No. 7 issued at 5:00 AM today.

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough, high, or very high seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 12.0 m: The seaboard of Babuyan Islands; the northern seaboards of mainland Cagayan and Ilocos Norte
• Up to 9.0 m: The remaining seaboard of Ilocos Norte
• Up to 9.0 m: The remaining seaboard of Cagayan
• Up to 8.0 m: The seaboard of Batanes
• Up to 7.0 m: The seaboard of northern Ilocos Sur; the seaboard of northern Isabela
• Up to 6.0 m: The remaining seaboards of Ilocos Sur and Isabela
• Up to 5.0 m: The remaining seaboard of Ilocos Region
• Up to 4.5 m: The seaboards of northern Zambales and northern Aurora
Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.

Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 4.0 m: The seaboards of Kalayaan Islands
• Up to 3.5 m: The northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands; the seaboards of Camarines Norte; the northern seaboards of Catanduanes and Camarines Sur; the remaining seaboard of Zambales.
• Up to 3.0 m: The eastern seaboard of Catanduanes; the seaboard of northern Quezon.
Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.

Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 2.5 m: The northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Samar; the eastern seaboards of Albay, Sorsogon, and Eastern Samar; the western seaboards of Bataan, Lubang Islands, Palawan including Calamian Islands;
• Up to 2.0 m: The western seaboards of Occidental Mindoro; the eastern seaboard of Camarines Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Sur
Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• MARCE is forecast to move west northwestward for the next 12 hours over the waters east of Cagayan before turning generally westward from this afternoon until Saturday (9 November). On the forecast track, MARCE will make landfall and traverse Babuyan Islands and/or the northern portions of mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao (or pass very close to these areas) from this afternoon until tomorrow (8 November) early morning. MARCE may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region tomorrow evening. The surge of the northeasterly wind flow will result in a more southwestward movement starting on weekend.
• MARCE is forecast to approach the northern portion of Cagayan during its peak intensity. Slight weakening may be expected starting this afternoon due to possible interaction with the terrain of mainland Luzon during the landfall or close approach of MARCE, although it will remain as a typhoon throughout its passage within the PAR region. The surge of the northeasterly wind flow will trigger a continuous period of weakening during the weekend.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 8:00 AM today.

NCRPO Director PMGEN SIDNEY S HERNIA categorically denied allegations of extortion made against him and 14 other NCRPO officers, describing them as "absurd and unfounded." The allegations arose following the recent PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) raid at Century Peak Tower in Ermita, Manila, targeting online scammers and illegal POGO operations. The raid, which has been referred to as an action against the "mother of all scam hubs," was executed by the PNP-ACG under cyber warrants, as previously clarified by PNP CHIEF, GEN ROMMEL FRANCISCO D MARBIL.

Philippine History / Malay Writing
November 05, 2024, 06:40:06 AM

The Malay and its various writing systems across the Malay Archipelago—such as Jawi, Rencong, and other indigenous scripts—reflect the region's complex history of cultural exchanges, trade, and local developments.

South Sumatra, particularly the regions around Palembang and Jambi, has been crucial in shaping Malay civilization and could indeed be considered among its centers, especially during the height of the Srivijaya empire.

1. Influence of Srivijaya: The Srivijaya empire (7th–13th centuries CE), centered in Palembang, played a significant role in spreading the Malay language and culture across Southeast Asia. Srivijaya was a major maritime and cultural hub, facilitating trade between China, India, and the Middle East. This also led to the spread of Buddhism and later Islam, which impacted the scripts and languages used across the Malay world. The influence of Srivijaya is seen in how Malay culture and language reached far across the region, establishing a foundation that would persist even after the empire's decline.

2. Development of Local Scripts: In the Malay world, different regions developed unique scripts. For example:

Rencong script: Indigenous to South Sumatra and used by communities like the Rejang, Besemah, and Ogan, Rencong was a pre-Islamic script that may have been influenced by Indian scripts due to Srivijaya's connections with the Indian subcontinent.

Jawi script: With the arrival of Islam, the Jawi script—a modified version of Arabic—became prominent in Malay-speaking regions. It was widely used in literature, administration, and religious texts.

Ulu scripts: These include various ancient Malay scripts like those used by the Ogan and Besemah communities, adapted over time to meet local needs.

3. Cultural and Religious Influence: The adoption of different scripts also reflects the influence of religion, especially Buddhism, Hinduism, and later Islam. Buddhism and Hinduism brought Indian scripts that influenced local ones, while Islam popularized Jawi as a tool for religious learning and administrative use. Each of these shifts left its mark on the writing systems used by the Malay people.

4. Jambi and Palembang as Cultural Centers: Both Palembang and Jambi were vital centers of trade, religion, and governance, especially during and after the Srivijaya period. Jambi later became the seat of the Malayu Kingdom, which continued the legacy of Srivijaya and promoted Malay culture and language. These cities were hubs where ideas, scripts, and linguistic practices spread and evolved.

• Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.

The highest Wind Signal which may be hoisted during the occurrence of LEON is Wind Signal No. 3 or 4, especially in Batanes and Babuyan Islands. The hoisting of Wind Signal No. 5 is also not ruled out.

Furthermore, the wind flow coming towards the circulation of LEON will also bring gusty conditions (strong to gale-force) over the following localities (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds) outside Wind Signal areas:

• Today (29 October): Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Camiguin.

Weird and Extreme / Shohei Ohtani 50th home run ball
October 28, 2024, 11:11:56 AM

A corporation from Taiwan has emerged as the winning bidder for the historic Shohei Ohtani 50th home run ball, which sold for a record-breaking $4,392,000 at auction.

This remarkable sale, announced by Goldin Auctions CEO Ken Goldin, marks the highest price ever paid for a baseball, surpassing the previous record of $3.05 million set in 1999 for Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball.

The auction attracted competitive bids from multiple countries, including Japan, where Ohtani is a national hero.

Despite the fierce competition, the Taiwanese corporation ultimately secured the prized baseball, demonstrating their passion for both baseball and Ohtani himself.

The identity of the winning bidder will be revealed in person when they pick up the ball after the conclusion of the World Series.

Legal disputes surrounding the ball's original ownership continue to unfold, but all parties have agreed to allow the auction proceeds to be distributed once a court ruling is made.

History / Breaking Babe Ruth's Record
October 28, 2024, 10:51:11 AM

See the young man in this picture? He was 18 years old when it was taken at the train station in Mobile, Alabama, in 1952.
There is $1.50 in his pocket. In that bag by his foot are two changes of clothes. (And if his mama was anything like most other mamas in the South, probably some sandwiches and other snacks.)
He was on his way to Indiana to take a job. He was going to play baseball for the Indy Clowns of the Negro Leagues. Apparently, he was pretty good at it. A couple of years later, he was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for the Brewers for 2 seasons, then moved across town to the Braves, and later followed them to Atlanta. Eventually, he was the last Negro League player to be on a major league roster.
He still hangs around the baseball world. At the moment, he's the senior vice president of the Atlanta Braves. Even though the team has changed stadiums (twice) since then, his retired number, 44, still hangs on the outfield wall of the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium near where he belted a homer to break Babe Ruth's all-time record which he held for 33 years).
Remembering "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron, who passed away on 22 January 2021.

KRISTINE will then move westward or west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region on Friday (25 October) afternoon.
• KRISTINE may slightly weaken while crossing Northern Luzon due to land interaction, with downgrading into a tropical storm not ruled out. However, re-intensification may occur once the tropical cyclone moves over the West Philippine Sea.

Anonymous Diary Blog / My Cup of Tea
October 23, 2024, 05:56:59 AM

𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮

It was summer of 2019. A bustling mall in the heart of Metro Manila, where the scent of freshly baked waffles and sweet vanilla ice cream filled the air. A senior high school student named Cell found himself seeking solace in a popular milk tea shop while waiting for his family to join him.

The place was teeming with people of all walks of life, each with their own stories and reasons for being there.

"Sir, sugar level po?" The cashier asked me the same question three times in a row, I felt a rising tide of pressure, at dahil mahaba na rin ang pila, at puno ako ng pangamba, nagpatalo ako rito at hindi na nagtanong.

"Ano po basta matamis, segunda po sana," I blurted out, trying to keep my composure. The cashier responded with a warm smile and a soft chuckle, as if my indecision was a charming quirk rather than a source of embarrassment. He insisted on giving my best friend Kimmy and me a perfectly sweetened chocolate milk tea, a gesture that felt oddly comforting amidst the bustling ambiance.

With so many orders piling up, it seemed our gossip session would stretch on. "There's an available seat in the dine-in area; let's sit down first!" Kimmy shouted, her laughter ringing out like music. She immediately pivoted the conversation, asking me about my college plans. I hesitated, the truth lingering on the tip of my tongue—I hadn't given it much thought. Her laughter bubbled over once again.

The atmosphere around us shimmered with pastel hues of happiness as groups of young people sang along to the catchy background tunes echoing through the mall.

'Ay, feeling good, like I should, went and took a walk around the neighborhood, feeling blessed, never stressed...'

In that moment, I belted out, "Got that sunshine on my Sunday best (yeah!)" My confidence soared, I felt my diva attitude echoing all the way to the third floor

I caught a glimpse of Kimmy's uvula. She's laughing with her mouth wide open, "Anak ito ng tonsils ko!" she quipped, and we seamlessly returned to the topic of my future plan.

I recalled a drama I had watched where the brave female lead was a journalist with a prosecutor love interest. "I want to be a journalist," I declared, feeling a spark of inspiration.

Kimmy gazed at me as if she had seen a ghost, her eyes wide with excitement. "I'm here for you, anytime you want to interview me!" she exclaimed. I leaned in, enveloping her in a tight hug. "Cell, I have so many things I want to learn; I'm still undecided," she added, her voice a mixture of hope and uncertainty.

Just then, a voice called out, announcing that our drinks were ready. I quickly rose to fetch them, only to find Kimmy standing, speaking anxiously on the phone with her father, who urgently asked her to come home due to an emergency. My heart sank as I spotted her dad approaching, his face etched with worry.

I was about to hand her the milk tea, but she looked at me, trembling with fear. "Cell, you go ahead and wait for Miley. Please tell her I'm leaving first." It was a bittersweet moment as I watched her leave, knowing our plans had shifted. Unfortunately, Miley never arrived that night.

This place remains as vibrant as ever, the air still crisp, and the sweet scent of waffles and vanilla ice cream lingered in the air. "Hello, Sir, order po?" the cashier prompted. "1 large choco hazelnut, with pearls and coconut jelly, 70% sugar, less ice," I replied, my mind racing with thoughts of the day ahead.

It was a busy day, especially for a fourth-year college student like me. I really needed a two-hour break from my thesis. "I think I'll treat myself to some milk tea and write my name in the sand," I thought, enjoying the idea of making some sweet memories.

The mall radiated Miley Cyrus energy this summer, a blend of carefree spirit and vibrant life. As I settled into the dining area, waiting for my name to be called, my phone rang. It was Kimmy, her laughter spilling through the line the moment my face appeared on her screen.

She was on her way to our secret spot, a hidden gem known only to the two of us—a sanctuary where we could escape the world. We had kept it to ourselves, sharing it only with our father, who had stood by us since my twin sister Kimmy had been diagnosed with Catatonic Schizophrenia when we were just 16 years old.

In this whirlwind of emotions and experiences, I realized that the essence of summer was not merely in the bustling crowds and delightful scents, but in the bonds we share, the laughter that echoes, and the dreams we dare to pursue.

Ma access ito sa @The Philippine Journal of Fisheries or i click http://www.nfrdi.da.gov.ph/tpjf/

#fish #scads #biology #ecology #fisheries #management #Philippines

ABSTRACT

The genus Decapterus, locally known as roundscads or galunggong, is one of the most harvested pelagic fishes in the Philippines and is considered a common source of protein among Filipinos. It was known as "poor man's fish" in the 1990s because of its cheap price and abundant supply. However, its production has been substantially decreasing since 2007, which consequently affects its price. This review paper analyzed published research papers, the National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) databases, and technical reports to identify the current status of the biology, ecology, fisheries, and management of roundscads in the Philippines. At the end, research gaps were identified to streamline future research. Proper monitoring of stocks and integration of multiple management approaches are recommended to design a sustainable management plan for the fisheries of roundscads.

Ayala Corporation Lists P15 Billion Preferred Shares on Philippine Stock Exchange

Ayala Corporation successfully listed P15.0 billion Preferred Class "B" Shares on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), sparking strong demand and confidence among institutional and retail investors.

This issuance allows the company to redeem outstanding preferred shares from 2019 and maintain competitiveness in cost of capital, according to Alberto de Larrazabal, Chief Finance Officer of Ayala Corporation.

Top officials attended the listing ceremony, including Commissioner Bryant Fernandez of the Securities and Exchange Commission, PSE President & CEO Ramon Monzon, and PSE COO Roel Refran. Ayala Corporation was represented by Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Cezar Consing, Alberto de Larrazabal, Atty. Franchette Acosta, and Estelito Biacora.

Monzon noted that the reissuance of Class B Preferred Shares was "warmly received" by investors, with its overallotment option fully subscribed. "This proves that a business founded on integrity and social consciousness, managed by professional and visionary leaders, will always command special attention and support from investors."

Ayala Corporation's successful listing comes after announcing plans to raise P15 billion from its re-issuance of 7.5 million perpetual preferred shares, with an initial dividend rate of 6.0538 percent per annum.

The company aims to use the proceeds to fund the redemption of P15-billion class B preferred shares callable on November 29.
