really Doc? So many tried to refute that there is no life after death, but there are mysterious things that cannot be explained by science. Those who experienced a near death experience mentioned that they all saw light and they felt a different kind of peace within them. I guess that's great! It's hard to have peace within yourself...errr...myself :)

Life , in general, is never easy and without any difficulties, mg. I honestly believe that if you live as honestly as possible, by following the golden rule, "do unto others as you would have others do unto you," it will steer one to the path to God. Building a personal relationship with God is a continuous phenomena, and we have to maintain that relationship with him. And you can do it. We have to live out our faith....

As for life after death, i do believe there is life after death. Science cannot explain everything... :P

A patient of mine who was an adorer of the Virgin Mary , the one who I described in my post in this thread -- who died with her rosary in her hand-- well, when she passed, I and many other nurses smelled the scent of roses. It was such a strong and beautiful scent-- as if we were in a garden of roses. But there were no roses...to be found!

January 09, 2013, 01:20:18 PM
In my honest opinion, I do believe that physical death is not the end. I've had experiences where when a patient dies, things move in the room. A nurse once told me that these things are caused by the "spirit leaving the body".

I have felt this personally. Unexplainable by science. :/

We should not be afraid to die. We all just need to be ready for it. I believe that we will all be judged someday as to how we lived. Moreover, we should leave good memories to the people we will leave behind. I am not afraid to die, I am just not ready yet, spiritually. But what can we do when our time comes?

Good message. You're right in that we cannot do anything when our time is nigh. I guess , the best thing we can do is to try to live out our faith to the best of our ability. To do good with one another, and to walk daily with our God so as to be in friendship with Him in the land of the living, so that we can hope to be worthy of seeing Him and being with Him after our death.

Faith provides consolation for people who are dying. I've seen very old, and weak patients who were dying, yet despite this, were so very strong up to the very end. I had a patient who prayed her rosary every day. When she coded, her hands were still holding her rosary.

Such strong, such beautiful faith truly provides strength in such time.

I just googled this thing. These pills sell for $60 per bottle. Does it even claim to heal / cure any specific diseases? What are the clinical tests? Any stage 1, stage 2, or stage 3 testing? What are the human clinical trials ? What are the quantitative and qualitative results? Does this drug hold an FDA-approved patent?

The only way to stimulate stem cells is to administer CSF (colony stimulating growth factors) via IV or through osteoimplantation.

:P
#7740

There are many different adult stem cells. Bone marrow contains several different populations of adult stem cells:
1. Hematopoietic stem cells: make new blood cells.
2. Mesenchymal stem cells: in the stroma (fibrous tissue) and can make mesenchymal phenotypes.
3. Multipotent adult progenitor cells (MAPCs): in the stroma and can differentiate into tissues from all 3 dermal layers -- such as nerve cells and liver cells.
4. Osteo-chrondral progenitor cells: in the stroma and can differentiate to cartilage or bone.

I've never heard of an oral pill that would enhance stem cell growth or release of stem cells into the circulation. If you want to increase the number of stem cells, you harvest the bone marrow, isolate the stem cells, and expand them in culture. In short, Stemenhance is a scam!

Whenever anyone says "stem cells", the first question out of your mouth should be "Which stem cells?"

As a practicing Surgeon here in the United States, of course. Only FDA-approved drugs are used and prescribed by physicians here in the United States.

I believe that our fellow physicians / surgeons in the Philippines hold that same principle.

The aspect of corruption in governmental bodies is a totally different topic.

Yes, as what I've said the proven standard methods of treatment for cancer is the best choice. That includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation.

However, this issue had been on a debate regarding the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy brought also by anti neoplastic drugs. Instead of treatment, it devastates the healthy cells and weakens the immune system leading faster than death in no time. Doctors promulgate profits by these big drug companies for cancer hehe.

Due to high medicine cost, there's an inaccessibility to health care. Some people preferred to undergo for conventional therapies. Have you heard these some natural treatments such as Rick hemp's oil, smoking weed, Vit C injection, guyabano, Sabah snake grass? All of these remain obscure and unproven.

Speaking of pinoys especially the poor ones from the rural areas, they find MX3 one of those herbal products, the cheapest way to intervene cancer without knowing the tumor cell proliferation and even metastasis.

Neoplastic cells are cells that have circumvented the normal genetic processes and are no longer under control of tumor suppressor genes such as Delta P-53, APC, as well as TNF. This is why neoplastic cells are a threat to surrounding tissues because of its aggressive spread. Anti-neoplastic drugs target the neoclueotidic synthesis (methotrexate, 5-fluorurocil), DNA coding synthesis (cisplatin, dactinomycin, etoposide), the RNA synthesis , the protein synthesis and even the cellular division (vinca alkaloids, paclitaxel).

Anti-neoplastic drugs target fast growing tissues, a trait of neoplastic cells. However, there are many other tissues that are fast growing, per se mucous glands,  bone marrow, hair follicles etc. This is why these tissue types are also affected during cancer treatment. These are the side effects.

If you do not treat the neoplastic cell, it will continue to spread. This is why in the full breadth of medicine, and in the specialty of Radiology Oncology, we treat cancers with chemotherapy, radiation, gamma technology and surgical excision. This is universally accepted in the field of Medicine.

When we treat a cancer patient, we weight the pros and cons, the risks and the benefits. If the anti-neoplastic drugs can have save a patient and can reduce the cancer, then we proceed with it. The patient, of course, is counseled on these said risks and benefits. The patient , as always, has the final say, and can outright deny treatment if he or she wishes. Treatment is only ascertained with the patient's approval.

As a Physician Surgeon, I am very cautious of any drugs that are NON-FDA Approved. In the United States, non-FDA approved  medication is not going to be approved by health insurance providers. Only FDA-approved medication. The reason why we are so critical here in the United States is because FDA-approved drugs have passed stage1, stage2, stage 3 trials and into human trials with majority of patients benefiting more than suffering.

Treatment of patients with proper drugs must be supported by empirical results, with resolute methodology.

8)

Sincerely,
Dr. Lorenzo

During the dying process, the body's systems shut down. The dying person has less energy and begins to sleep more and more. The body is conserving the little energy it has, and as a result, needs less nourishment and sustenance. In the days (or sometimes weeks) before death, people eat and drink less. They may lose all interest in food and drink, and you shouldn't force them to eat. In fact, pushing food or drink on a dying person could cause him or her to choke -- at this point, it has become difficult to swallow and the mouth is very dry.

As the person takes in less food and drink, he or she will urinate less frequently and have fewer bowel movements. The person may also experience loss of bladder and bowel control. People who are dying may become confused, agitated or restless, which could be a result of the brain receiving less oxygen. It can be disconcerting and painful to hear a loved one so confused in his or her last days.

The skin will also show the effects of slowing circulation and less oxygen -- the extremities, and later, the entire body, may be cool to the touch and may turn blue or light gray. Some skin may exhibit signs of mottling, which is reddish-blue blotchiness. As the person gets closer to death, it will become harder and harder to breathe. Respiration will be noisy and irregular; it will sometimes seem as if the person can't breathe at all. When there's fluid in the lungs, it can cause a sound known as the death rattle. It may be possible to alleviate the gurgling and congestion by raising the person's head. If the dying person is experiencing pain, he or she will usually be given medications to manage it.

When we're watching someone die, we may have a preconceived notion of how the person should handle death emotionally and spiritually. It's important to remember that every person experiences dying differently. Some people have the need to say goodbye or to hear from another person before death, some don't. Some people prefer to partake in religious rites, while others may remain silent until the end and pass away when everyone has left the room. Doctors and other professionals who manage end-of-life care advise loved ones to take their cues from the dying and avoid projecting their own desires or needs onto the person. They also urge loved ones to continue speaking comfortingly to a dying person -- hearing may be one of the last things to go.

Clinical death occurs when the person's heartbeat, breathing and circulation stop. Four to six minutes later, biological death occurs. That's when brain cells begin to die from lack of oxygen, and resuscitation is impossible.

I'm not a fan of any non-FDA supported supplemental drugs. If these drugs claim to provide anti-oxidant effects, then why pay 17 pesos (or whatever they charge) per pill?

Drink green tea, or any tea, which is a source of anti-oxidants. Eat fish, eat fruits on a daily basis. Eat green leafy veggies. These are all rich sources of food and provide anti-oxidant effects.

MX3 Can Cure Brain Tumor?

Just because the MRI machine did not detect the tumor, does not necessarily mean its not there. Depending on the size and location of the tumor, if this tumor grows again and impinges on motor, auditory or oratory areas, will result in communication disorders. The mother should have the child undergo tumorectomy immediately, especially if it is still benign.

If the tumor grows, if it impinges on an artery, the ischemic effects on brain tissue will be catastrophic for the patient.

Relying solely on non-FDA supported supplementary pills is a very unwise decision.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION: For the enlightened ones

1. Learn to live as if you will die tomorrow.
2. Learn to treasure things that can not be bought by money.
3. Learn to give time for myself and not always for others.
4. As always learn to help without expecting anything in return.
If you do not want to help then dont help.
5. Do not regret what you do, as long that you are happy that is all that matters.
6. Never be controlled by what other people say, you know whats good for you.

How about the price for cleaning or oral prophylaxis and the brace sir? Is it included under general services? Thanks.

That is a good question for a dentist. I am a General Surgeon Intern, so i am not too well versed in brace costs.

Perhaps a dentist here in TB will answer your question.

Health and Food / Re: MX3 Can Cure Brain Tumor?

The treatment of a brain tumor depends on the tumor's size, location, and type. If the tumor is benign, surgical excision is the preferred choice. Afterwards, radiation and chemotherapy should be implemented to eradicate any residual neoplastic cells.

I must have understood you wrong sa imong text, I thought I heard you say "idiopathy." hehehe

Thanks for your input, Fr. Roel. Let me better explain to you the difference between idiopathy and homeostasis.

1. Homeostasis is the body's natural ability to maintain equilibrium , going back to a normal state either by compensating for a fall or increase in the function of another organ.

Let me better explain to you how this works in a clinical setting. Let us say we have a patient who is 55 years old , weighs 250 lbs. This patient has hypertension , which is an increase in blood pressure. Now the body will do everything it can to reduce the blood pressure. The heart's atrial tissue detects the high blood pressure , as well as the baroreceptors found in the carotid arterial arch detect this increase in blood pressure (Hypertension). The baroreceptors will send a signal to the heart to reduce the activity of the heart to resolve the pressure. The atrial tissues will also release a chemical signal called ANP (atrial natriuretic peptide), which acts on the kidneys. The ANP promotes diuresis, which is urination, in order to reduce volume and thereby reduce the blood pressure.

The coordinated activity of the carotid arch's baroreceptors, the atrial tissue, and the kidneys is an example of Homeostasis. This illustrates the body's ability to compensate one another in order to return to a state of normalcy as best at it can physiologically speaking.

2. Now, in regards to the term idiopathy, that is a term we use to describe an unexplainable event. A disease that manifests itself without explanation is called idiopathy. A disease that heals without any scientific explanation is called idiopathic.

I hope that helps.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask it here or PM me.

Yes, it has a tar free component and can be widely used as an alternative of nicotine for smokers. However, e-cigarettes too has side effects based on the recent studies. Instead of curbing smoking, it invokes promotion. Some people preferably nonsmokers can take out their curiosity on trying these products. For those who can't afford, pinoys are known to be resourceful in other ways, they can plant tobaccos and weeds as well.

Yes, like any drug, there will always be a side effect. It is imperative that the patient who is prescribed by his or her M.D to take e-cigarattes should also be educated on the reason why they are placed on this substitute; namely to reduce the instance of smoking. The patient will be counseled by the physician to implement behavioral modification -- to reduce the urge to smoke.

Patients that are prescribed to go on e-cigarettes are usually those who have developed COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases) secondary to the smoke and tar found in the cigarette. This is beneficial for the patient because the cessation of smoke inhalation and tar residues in the pulmonary tract allows the respiratory epithelia to transition back to its normal state. Secondly, it will help the patient's breathing.

Dr. Lorenz

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
