While it is reported that more than 50,000 people were present when Eraserheads reunited on stage last August, still, so many of the band’s die-hard fans missed the show for whatever reason.

Thus it’s fitting that such a historic event be relived on the big screen and give those not around a chance to experience something that might won’t happen again.

"Eraserheads: The Reunion Concert" just opened in theaters last November 26, ensuring that anyone who wishes to see or repeat the whole concert will be accommodated â€" all in the comforts of a movie theater and its surround sound.

"Masayang-masaya kami at nandito magkakasama ulit tayo," expressed the group’s heart and soul Ely Buendia during the premiere held at Megamall just a few days back. He was around with lead guitarist Marcus Adoro to open the screening which also featured two short films ("Waiting Shed" and "The Artist Is In") which he and the latter directed, respectively.

Ely, who was ill during the August 30 gig and was rushed to the hospital after first set, was in his more jolly mood and cared enough to joke, "Ako siyempre mas excited kasi first time ko mapapanood yung concert," he told the amused theater crowd, also comprising of true-blue Eheads fans present that memorable night.

Peppered with graphics embellishments that make it more visually enticing on the big screen, the concert has likewise been released by Sony BMG in CD form, easily becoming the first record done by the group since "Carbon Stereoxide", their last album before Ely broke away from the group in 2002.

Bassist Buddy Zabala was also around inside the cinema. So only drummer Raymund Marasigan whose unconfirmed hush-hush riff with Ely is arguably what’s keeping the band from truly reuniting was reportedly absent.

As for the reunion concert, had it not been revealed that the ‘Heads have prepared a 30-song line-up, the 15 songs they did live were quite enough even for a major concert standard. Of 15, they delivered mostly familiar hits such as "Alapaap," (a right pick opening song for its inviting tone), "Ligaya," "Harana," "Kailan," "Fruitcake," "Huwag Kang Matakot," "Huwag Mo Nang Itanong," "Toyang," "Shake Yer Head," "Kaliwete" and "With A Smile."

Not expected on the list were "Kama Sutra", "Hey Jay" and the less-known "Light Years", off their Christmas album "Fruitcake" which turned out to be their surprising last song in light of the trouble that happened to the night’s main man.

The Eraserheads, their united stance alone a sweet journey back to their heydeys, did a good show and proved that paying them each "millions" was worth every cent. The thrilling digital countdown to show proper and appropriate fireworks at the beginning of the set paved the way for a smooth stretch.

Feeling very sick because of the pressure and his mom Lizette Buendia’s passing, Ely’s act was a gallant effort deserving of high praises.

It was obvious he was fascinated by the big crowd that went to see them. He simply mused, "Dami tao a." Yet the feeling of gratitude was there. That moment he must have realized how Eraserheads have been missed by its multitude of fans. And how, with the chant of ‘group hug’ reverberating after every song, these people want them to get back and possibly continue making good music together. Whether there will be a follow-up gig or a reunion studio album can only be just everybody’s hope.

Sports and Fitness / PACMAN NOW 95% READY, SAYS BUBOY
November 23, 2008, 12:56:20 AM
LOS ANGELES--Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has now breached the 90 percent conditioning level with still two more weeks left before he takes on the Golden Boy Oscar De la Hoya in Las Vegas.

This was the assessment made yesterday by Pacquiao's Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez in an interview with this writer following another day of heavy training at the Wild Card Gym under the supervision of trainer Freddie Roach.

"Nasa 90 to 95 percent na sya ngayon. Maganda ang tsantsa natin talaga," Fernandez said a day after arriving from San Jose, California to accompany Bobby Pacquiao in his losing fight against Robert Frankel.

The same observation was echoed by Pacquiao's other Filipino trainer and nutrinionist Nonoy Neri, who said that if he was to bet, he'd put all his money behind a Pacquiao victory over De la Hoya, who is currently training at the Big Bear in California.

"We have a big chance against De la Hoya. After that sluggish performance last week, Pacquiao is now back in his old deadly self. I won't be surprised if this ends in a knockout," Neri said.

Meanwhile, the pound-for-pound king is reportedly planning on advising his younger brother Bobby to finally hang up his gloves following the decision defeat the other night in San Jose, California.

namo sa ahung ex, very memorable kaajo tawun
na naho ni.

    Somebody

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermoust thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listent to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my wievs may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She will hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll offen disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and with every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer dear
Of those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it.

Aguy aguy ug aguy, kanindot anang kantaha,Thanks for sharing dire nga thread Brown.Hay,lab as pa sa panumduman ang napan-us nang pagbati.Pero kung ako papili-on based from my experiences, maayo pag didto na lang ko sa akong ex.. ;D

(Updated 10:53 a.m.) MANILA, Philippines - Former Agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn Bolante on Thursday shielded Malacañang from the fertilizer fund scam.

Answering a query from Senator Manuel Roxas II on when President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo approved the fertilizer fund, Bolante categorically said the President had no involvement in the fertilizer fund project of the Agriculture department.

"President Arroyo has never been involved and is not involved in this particular project of the Department of Agriculture," Bolante said in response to Roxas' initial question.

"The project that you are referring to is the P728 million farm input and farm implement program was approved and processed by the DBM. It did not require the approval of President Arroyo," Bolante added.

Roxas, however, did not accept Bolante's answer, saying Arroyo is known to be a micro-manager.

Roxas recalled an earlier hearing where former budget secretary Emilia Boncodin, when asked if "the president knew about" the fund, had replied, "I would imagine so."

Bolante said the P728-million fertilizer fund was part of the unutilized savings from the 2003 budget.

"It came from the 2003 budget, which simply shows it was something we did not work on on Feb. 3 ... Then Secretary (Luis Jr.) Lorenzo made an official request to the DBM Sept. 4, 2003 for the release of the funds for the farm input farm implement requirements of the DA," Bolante said. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV

World Daily News / Baby Obama born in South Florida
November 08, 2008, 09:07:54 PM
HOLLYWOOD, Florida - Barack Obama may have a "funny name," as he once said - but it might just catch on among the nation's newborns.

A Florida couple became among the country's first to bestow it on their child, even before most news outlets had declared the Illinois senator the president-elect.

Sanjae Obama Fisher was born at 8 p.m. local time at Hollywood's Memorial Regional Hospital to Patrick and Sasha Hall Fisher.

A hospital spokeswoman says it was the father's idea. But mom still got to watch the election, after 14 hours at the hospital.

Sanjae has two siblings, 8-year-old sister Shaniah and 4-year-old brother Shane.

In Arkansas, Benjamin Barack Kimbrough was born at 2:35 p.m. local time on Election Day to Walter and Adria Kimbrough. Walter Kimbrough is president of Philander Smith College, a historically black school in Little Rock.

In Maryland, a mother who went into labor Tuesday after voting for Obama named her newborn daughter for the Obamas' two girls, 7-year-old Sasha and Malia, 10.

Lakisha Brown of Joppa gave birth to Sasha Malia Ann Taylor at 12:36 a.m. local time Wednesday at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

GBMC spokesman Michael Schwartzberg said Brown watched Obama's victory speech while she was in labor at the hospital. She says she was so struck by the love Obama showed to his daughters that she decided to name her baby after them. - AP

MANILA, Philippines - Contrary to certain sectors' claims, it is not too late to heed Catholic bishops' call to change government because of corruption, an opposition senator said Thursday.

In a radio interview, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said that while the bishops' call would have counted more had they made it much earlier, its recent appeal for a change in government is still timely since the issue of corruption is a "continuing offense."

"Noon siguro hinihintay ang kanilang pahayag na mas matapang yan inaasahan ng tao noon. Pero corruption ang issue dito, corruption is a continuing phenomenon. Hindi pa rin huli, timely pa rin iyan (People would have wanted the bishops to make such a bold call before. But this is an issue of corruption, which is a continuing phenomenon. So it's not too late. The call is still timely)," Lacson said in an interview on dzXL radio.

Earlier this week, five senior bishops, including Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines president Angel Lagdameo, called for a change in government as they scored the problem of corruption.

The call drew the ire of Malacañang and some business groups.

On the other hand, Tagbilaran, Bohol bishop Leonardo Medroso said it is high time for people to act and for the Arroyo government to be held accountable for charges of graft.

"What the Church can do is just to knock on the consciences of corrupt politicians but actions rely most from the public," he said in an article posted early Thursday on the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines website. - GMANews.TV

In most cases this problem arises to a certain relationship if the everlasting love that we promise to our dear wife begins to fade away, however in some instance love is not the issue it came from other matters, whatever it is we have the court to go for, as what sir Macky says earlier. Let the court decides and let's enjoy life.

IN WHAT may be considered as his formal break-up from the Dejaresco Family-owned Bohol Chronicle and radio station DYRD, City Mayor Dan Neri Lim launched yesterday his Saturday radio program "Ang Mayor sa Dakbayan" over station DYTR and aired from 7:30 to 10 in the morning.

"Soft launching," the mayor said in jest while entertaining his supporters after his radio program

"We will have a more formal and elaborate launching next Saturday," the mayor promised. The mayor "pulled out" his regular Saturday program Mayor's Report from station DYRD after a falling out of friendly relations with the brothers Bingo and Peter Dejaresco.

The "scathing" 2-page editorial of the Bohol Chronicle last Sunday broke the proverbial camel's back that prompted Mayor Lim to relay to editor in chief Bingo Dejaresco the message that he would never set foot on the premises of DYRD again, ever. The mayor was supposed to answer the editorial if not of the timely intervention of Mons. Jeffrey Malanog who is a close friend of the mayor.

"Ila na man kong gibuyboy so di na ko mobalik didto," was the mayor's answer when asked why he transferred to DYTR. "Tungod ni Mons. Jeffrey Malanog, ceasefire sa mi. Dili sa ko mo-discuss sa akong tubag sa editorial sa Chronicle," the mayor said.  "Madugo" was how a close associate of the mayor described the mayor's answer.

Over calls and text messages expressing full support on his decision to transfer his radio program, the mayor told his listeners that he would continue to strive to serve them to the best of his ability over station DYTR. He was assisted by Ted Ayeng and Atty. Salvador Diputado, regular anchors of Kwentas Klaras.

Libel charge...

Meanwhile, the Bohol Chronicle could be facing Libel charges from an environmental engineer who was portrayed as "lawyering for the 38 connectors." Sources told the TIMES yesterday afternoon that Engr. Cecil Corloncito felt maligned and humiliated and said he would file Libel charges against the Bohol Chronicle.

The Chronicle came out with a story in its October 5, 2008 issue entitled "No socio-political sense" accusing Corloncito of lawyering for the 38 illegal connectors in the city. The Chronicle was reacting to Corloncito's Letter to the Editor where he said, "if we call the 38 "connected" establishments illegal, I believe the non-connected water users (of course wastewater dischargers, too) are already "fugitives", including the very establishment Bohol Chronicle is operating."

A copy of Corloncito's email was furnished the TIMES yesterday. Corloncito, the city environment consultant, is also the Technical Project Manager of the Environment Regulatory Authority in Australia.

Filipino singer Arnel Pineda arrived here in Manila last October 8 for a short respite following a grueling tour with American rock band Journey.

Immediately upon arrival, Arnel once again answered questions pertaining to the article that came out in the October 2008 issue of the US-based magazine Rolling Stone. Pineda was profiled by Andy Greene, in which the rock journalist painted the singer as feeling all stressed out brought by the demands of the massive tour in support of the band's latest album titled, Revelation.

"There are days I just break down and cry. This is a job I'm doing for my family. That's all the consolation I'm getting," Arnel reportedly told Rolling Stone.

The article was bannered bearing the headline: "Sad ‘Journey' for New Singer."

TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT. "I was taken out of context dun sa Rolling Stone, for the record talaga," Arnel told the local press who waited for his arrival at the Centennial 2 Airport of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Part of Arnel's interview was aired last Saturday, October 11, at Entertainment Live!

Even before his return, Arnel along with his bandmates criticized the published featureâ€"accusing the popular magazine of intentionally misplacing and chopping off quotes so as to come up with an attention grabbing piece.

Journey guitarist Neal Schon, who is well familiar on how rock n' roll journalism works in the international circuit, stated in an interview with CBS5: "They took a segment of what he [Arnel] said in the interview and erased all the good stuff he said in between. It has happened to me a million times in my career."

Arnel, for his part, admitted feeling homesick and tired, but completely ruled out that he is feeling despondent.

"As far as I am concerned, I am having a blast onstage, but I can't deny it. I miss home, I'm homesick, but I got the best gig in the world. How can I be miserable?" he told CBS5.

The veteran Schon was kind enough to understand Arnel's plight, saying that he, along with the others, expected their rookie frontman to end up exhausted since it was his first time to embark on a full-scale concert tour covering different cities staged in giant arenas.

"It's his first tour," Schon candidly offered. "None of us knew what it would be like. We didn't know what kind of strength he had in a long duration like he's been. We've been out here for a solid four months with no breaks in between."

Talking to the Filipino reporters, Arnel shared how taxing the tour indeed was. "My health was compromised a lot. I have to take medicines so I could just go on and go on and go on until I finish the tour," he confessed.

STILL LIVING A DREAM. The Rolling Stone write-up also highlighted Arnel reportedly saying that the tour, along with the entire Journey experience, as a "curse."

Arnel did not brushed off the "curse" reference but pointed out: "It's quite a curse but then it's a blessing because I was very, very lucky na ako ang napili nila to carry the torch and first time that a Filipino with a very famous band na magkaroon ng platinum album."

Pineda used to front the Manila-based band Zoo before he was discovered by Schon through YouTube belting out Journey classics, "Don't Stop Believing" and "Faithfully."

Formed in 1973 in San Francisco, California, Journey gained popularity during the late 1970s extending to the early ‘80s after releasing a string of power ballads like "Any Way You Want It," "Faithfully," "Separate Ways," "Wheel in the Sky" and "Open Arms."

Prior to Arnel bagging the coveted spot, Journey was fronted by a handful of singers such Gregg Rolie (1973-1980), Robert Fleischman (1977), Steve Perry (1977-1998), Steve Augeri (1998-2006), and Jeff Scott Sotto (2006-2007). - Philippine Entertainment Portal

BEIJING â€" State media says 61 villagers in northwest China were hospitalized for food poisoning after attending a wedding banquet.

Xinhua News Agency said Monday the villagers from Gansu province all suffered from fevers, stomachache, diarrhea and vomiting after attending last week's dinner.

The report said 17 patients were discharged but the others remained hospitalized. No deaths were reported, and samples of the food served at the banquet were being tested.

Calls to the local government rang unanswered.

The incident occurs as China tries to deal with a widespread tainted milk scandal that has sickened 53,000 children. In recent days, 450 other people in the country's south became ill after drinking water contaminated by industrial waste. - AP

Oscar Dela Hoya and Manny Pacquiao

Los Angeles, CA:- We just got off the phone talking with some members of the Team Pacquiao who are presently with the national tour to promote the Pacquiao-de la Hoya December 6th rumble at the MGM Grand Events Center at Las Vegas.

According to our sources, Bob Arum was exactly right. People will come to the fight, and the press conference no matter where the promoters will put it up. From the information we got, more than 500 people were at the press con no small wonder for a highly secured tourist place that is not exactly cheap to access. The photographers had a field day as the weather predicted to be somewhat rainy, cooperated thus producing an event that brought smiles to the faces of the promoters.

Pacquiao and de la Hoya came wearing “business dress down”outfits. They look so elegant standing together with Lady Liberty at the background. Pacquiao according to our sources, was just a tad more dapper in his slightly faced blue jeans, sky blue shirt, a dark coat and dark shoes. His designer shades added to his almost GQ look.

Pacquiao and de la Hoya appeared to be in very good shape and in good spirits, said our sources and they are both anxious to get it on come December 6th.

From New York, the group moves to the Windy City known as Chicago and will end the tour in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon after stops at Houston, San Antonio and San Francisco.

ASEAN karting queen Michele Bumgarner made history in the Rock Island Grand Prix in Illinois by becoming the first female champion in the world’s largest street kart racing event.

Bumgarner bagged the Tag Seniors crown, also earning her the distinction as the seventh foreign-born winner in the event’s 14-year history.

With the victory, the media is now making comparison of her to Danica Patrick, who also emerged the first female champion of Rock Island’s counterpart, the Indy Racing League, last April.

The 19 year old bet surprised everyone as a first-timer in the event when she piloted the Margay Team to a 1-2-3-4 finish and clocked 11 minutes and 24.144sec.

Teammate Kyle Erdmann came in 0.916sec behind for second place, while Scott Hamble and Brett Johnson finished third and fourth places, respectively.

For years, the Rock Island Grand Prix has been known as a stepping stone to barge into the Indy Racing League (IRL) and has drawn hundreds of entries annually from all over the world, including Argentina, Bermuda, Colombia, Costa Rica, England, France, Italy and Mexico as well as Canada and the United States.

“This will stick with me my whole career. Everyone goes on about how great this race is and it’s special that this is my first time here and my first win here. I hope to come back,” said Bumgarner, who credited the support of Margay’s experienced crew that includes crew chief and former RIGP champ Rick Fulks and RIGP’s winningest racer until last year Jason Birdsell.

Bumgarner is also backed up by Petron XCS, Spectrum-OSO Asia, Department of Tourism, Molecule, City Kart Racing, Oakley and Goodyear.

“I’ve got fantastic support here,” Bumgarner said. “How could I not be up front?”

Even RIGP officials were impressed, predicting a promising racing career for Bumgarner who’s planning to move to Indianapolis to pursue hopes of going the Indy Racing League route by the end of the year.

“I think she has a pretty bright career ahead of her, and it depends on how that career goes,” RI Grand Prix president Roger Ruthhart said. “It served us well when Scott Speed went on to Formula One, with him saying how he had been a Rock Island Grand Prix champion. It could be the same thing with Michele.”

Bumgarner didn’t come to Rock Island with expectations to win. But the media already speculated her historic feat after posting a top qualifying speed of 33.096 seconds that made her the first female pole-winner in RIGP history.

“I didn’t come here intending to be a trailblazer, but it’s an extra perk,” she said. “What I know is, it was going to be a close race to the end.”

This topic is very much interesting, we might have some brothers and sisters from different sector of religions who were viewing this thread, For me as a Roman Catholic it is our tradition that we prayed infront of the image of our saviour, even inside in our church you can find it there but it does not mean that we worshipped the image, instead we sent directly our prayers to the almighty God, Ms Belskie might have a point to say that it's better to pray infront of a statue than praying infront of a blank wall!

NEW YORK - Relatives of victims killed at the World Trade Center are observing a moment of silence to mark the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The silence marks the exact time â€" 8:46 â€" when the first hijacked plane struck the trade center. Other moments of silence were planned for the times when the second plane hit and when the towers fell.

In Washington, President George W. Bush led a White House gathering in observing the moment. Standing next to the president under threatening skies for the brief South Lawn ceremony were his wife, Laura, and Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne.

Other ceremonies are being held throughout the day, including one at the Pentagon, where a new memorial will be dedicated. Services will also be held in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where one of the hijacked planes crashed.

Later Thursday, presidential rivals Barack Obama and John McCain are due at ground zero to pay silent respects. - AP

MANILA, Philippines - Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita on Saturday confirmed that former Ilocos Sur governor Luis "Chavit" Singson has been appointed deputy national security adviser.

GMA Flash Report quoted Ermita as saying Singson's appointment papers were released by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's office on Friday.

The defeated senatorial candidate will replace retired Lieutenant General Pedro Cabuay.

Ermita said he will meet with Singson on Monday to discuss the appointment.

Singson's appointment as President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's No. 2 security adviser could lead to speculations about what's in store for National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzalez.

Considered as one of the most powerful Filipino politicians, Singson is not known for playing second fiddle to anyone, other than the President. He played a key role in events that led to the ouster of President Joseph Estrada in 2001.

His exposé which led to Estrada's impeachment and forced resignation also led him closer to Ms. Arroyo, who became the biggest beneficiary of the uprising by succeeding Estrada by virtue of her being vice president.

Singson is the fifth defeated administration senatorial bet to get a post in the executive department.

The other former Team Unity senatorial bets appointed include Vicente Sotto III (Dangerous Drugs Board), Prospero Pichay Jr. (Local Water Utilities Administration), Michael Defensor (task force on NAIA-3), and Ralph Recto (National Economic and Development Authority).Kimberly Jane Tan, GMANews.TV

A separate report on GMA News’ Saksi said Ely was declared in stable condition after the operation.

Ely’s wife, Diane, said the angioplasty procedure was successful, and the singer-composer is now on his road to recovery.

“He’s OK. He’s in stable condition," said Dian.

However, the report said Buendia has to stay in hospital for two more weeks for a cardiac rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Ely’s former band mates, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, hinted at holding another concert reunion.

“Salamat sa pagpunta. Salamat sa pag-unawa. Babawi kami," they said.

Ely was rushed to the Makati Medical Center and his former band mates, accompanied by Ely’s sister Lally, broke the sad news to thousands of fans who attended the concert.

Organizers said fans understood the reasons for the abrupt end of the concert, but they requested for a follow-up reunion concert.

              Ely Buendia of E- Heads

MANILA, Philippines - The Eraserheads reunion concert on Saturday night at the Bonifacio Global City Open Field was cut short after lead singer Ely Buendia suffered "emotional and physical stress."

Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center, where he is undergoing triple bypass operation, according to a report on the Philippine Entertainment Portal Web site.

"We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing," said Buendia's sister Lali to concert-goers.

The Erasherheads opened the concert at 8:15 p.m. with their hit song “Alapaap" and proceeded to play classics such as “Ligaya," “Wag Mo Nang Itanong," “Fruitcake," among others.

More than 10 songs were played to eager fans at The Fort and around 9:30 p.m. the band took a 30-minute break. Forty minutes later, Buendia’s sister went up to the stage to break the sad news.

Fans said that in the middle of the reunion concert, Buendia stopped playing his guitar. They said the lead singer sat on the floor and bowed his head. Then the stage lights went out.

The Eraserheads was a popular Pinoy rock band of the 1990s formed by Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro.

SAN FRANCISCO â€" Rainbow ribbons and matrimonial bliss filled City Hall June 17 as Mayor Gavin Newsom gave his blessing to the city’s gays and lesbians seeking to legalize their love in marriage.

"Imagine how people today are feeling. I see different faces of people’s lives and realized this is as good as it gets," said Newsom. "Marriage is not just about two people; it’s about celebrating family and their support."

On May 15, 2008, what was once a form of civil disobedience in this city and many parts of the country, had become history in the making.

The State Supreme Court reversed a ban on same-sex marriage, paving the way for California to become the second state, after Massachusetts, to legalize such unions.

The following day, City Hall issued more than 200 licenses to gay and lesbian couples who wanted to make their love part of city history.

The turnout was overwhelming. Of all 58 counties in the state including San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo, Contra Costa, and Sonoma, county clerks were up to their knees and elbows issuing license after license.

California is expecting about 60,000 same-sex couples to be applying for licenses, and walking to the altar shortly after, over the next three years.

With San Francisco becoming a destination for same-sex marriage, the city’s Convention and Visitors Bureau sent off invitations all over to the gay press hoping to partake of the $60 billion gay tourism industry nationwide.

San Francisco, along with New York and Los Angeles, has been rated a gay-friendly tourist spot, according to a 2006 Travel Industry Association survey.

A UCLA study released recently says about half of "California’s 102,600 same-sex couples will marry over the next three years."

The same study estimates these and same-sex couples from other states to be spending at least $680 million on their weddings, which include honeymoon packages, receptions, gowns and flowers. San Francisco accounts for half that amount.

The economics is interesting: Same-sex marriages are expected to raise $8.8 million in revenue from licenses alone, and generate 2,100 new jobs in the state.

"San Francisco has been through an incredible change," said Robert Ray Avila, a member of the gay community. "Kids in their 20s are growing up in the gay culture and are now open minded because of their kind of upbringing, but back in the 80s it was difficult."

"Same-sex couples getting married today have the paved the way for a better future," added Avila.

Where children are more exposed, statistics are now showing greater exposure for the Filipino community, at least, to gay lifestyle and culture, starting with young people in the 8-10 age group, said another community activist who wishes to remain anonymous.

"Of all communities and cultures I’ve interacted with, Filipinos seem to be the most accepting and welcoming to the gay community," said Avila.

As City Hall bustled with cheers and joyous tears from people showering rose petals on newlyweds, the day has been one marked with a moving sense of liberation.

"We have waited a long time for this day," said Filipino-American Michelle Julaton, referring to her partner of 15 years, Vanessa Angeles. "We just can’t believe we now have our very own day here in the historical City Hall of San Francisco!"

As couples rejoiced, a cloud of pessimism hangs: A statewide measure that would attempt to once again outlaw same-sex marriage is slated to appear on the November ballot. This, despite San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera’s confident declaration that same-sex weddings will "be legal and enduring."

Still, Newsom set the tone of celebration for the day when he, along with many other appreciative and joyous San Franciscans, urged pushing worries aside.

"Today is a powerful, incredible day, and I am proud to be alive," he said, beaming.

"Thank you so much, Mayor," came the resounding response

Dwyane Wade continues to impress in exhibition play, scoring 19 points against Lithuania.

MACAU -- The Americans are headed for Shanghai. They look ready to go right to Beijing.

With Kobe Bryant defending the way he did last summer and Dwyane Wade soaring again, the U.S. Olympic basketball team has easily won its first three exhibition games.

Dwyane Wade continues to impress in exhibition play, scoring 19 points against Lithuania.
Two more until they start to count.

"I think we're in pretty good shape defensively," forward Carmelo Anthony said. "Offensively we're tuning some things up. We've got two more games before the real deal starts."

Bryant harassed longtime U.S. nemesis Sarunas Jasikevicius into a miserable night and helped the Americans roll to a 120-84 victory over Lithuania on Friday night.

Jasikevicius was unstoppable in a win over the United States four years ago. So Bryant, who has made it a point to defend the opponent's best perimeter threat since joining the team last summer, blanketed him in the same manner as he did Phoenix guard Leandro Barbosa of Brazil in the Olympic qualifying tournament.

"Kobe's our best defender, hands down," forward Carlos Boozer said. "And Kobe takes on the challenge of guarding their best perimeter player regardless of who it is, regardless if he's a point guard, 2, 3, 4, whatever it is."

Wade scored 19 points, Dwight Howard had 17, and LeBron James 15 for the Americans, who raced to a big early lead, then pulled away again after Lithuania got within single digits early in the second half. Bryant finished with 13 points, nine during the big U.S. first quarter.

Wade scored 20 points last week against Canada in his first action since March, when the Miami Heat shut him down so he could rest his surgically repaired knee. He punctuated his 7-of-9 night by going high to catch an alley-oop pass from Chris Paul and double-pump before throwing down the dunk.

"He's back," Anthony said. "That's all I can say. He's back."

The Americans, who shot 64 percent, swept two games here and leave Saturday for Shanghai, where they will play European champion Russia and Australia. They are averaging 118 points in exhibition play.

MANILA, Philippines - An American immigration lawyer reminded undocumented foreigners in the US that they are not required to divulge any information regarding their nationality should US immigration authorities arrest or detain them.

According to Atty Robert Reeves, founder of a law firm that specializes in immigration and deportation, illegal immigrants still have the right “to remain silent" regarding their place of birth or nationality.

Reeves made the statement amid the recent crackdown of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on undocumented immigrants in several states in the US including California.

Based on the US Census Bureau, in 2006 there were more than 36 million Asians living in California which is about 12.3 percent of the state’s entire population.

Daly City in California has the biggest Filipino community outside the Philippines.

“Remember, everything a person says can be used against them in deportation proceedings. A detainee should never lie to an ICE agent and must never make false claims of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status," said Reeves in his website.

The US-based lawyer further said that detainees have the right to refuse signing statements or documents that might be used to deny them a court hearing or worse, expedite their deportation.

Like all arrested individuals in the US, Reeves said undocumented immigrants have the right to a phone call and to speak to a lawyer before giving statements to authorities.

Detained immigrants are usually taken to a temporary processing station where he or she may be fingerprinted and interviewed. After the processing of the detainee, he/she is given the “A number" which is an alien registration number.

“It is very important to memorize this number and if possible, the name of the ICE agent in charge of processing the detainee and the location of the processing station," Reeves said.

He added that it is important for the detainee to call an immigration lawyer who can “request status of the case or in some situations can negotiate the release of the detainee with or without bond."

“Family members can also learn the location of their loved one if they have the full name and 'A number' ready. If a detainee is given legal documents, it is important to always keep those documents with him or her. These documents will be very important to an immigration lawyer," Reeves further said. - GMANews.TV

Chief of Mission Monico Puentevella and Olympic attaché Arturo Macapagal head the delegation composed of 37 athletes, coaches and officials that will take the four-hour trip via Philippine Airlines flight on that day.

Joining the two officials are: Marestella Torres and Henry Dagmil of athletics, Harry Tañamor of boxing; Sheila Mae Perez and Rexel Ryan Fabriga of diving; Daniel Coackley, Ryan Paolo Arabejo, Miguel Molina, James Walsh and Joan Christel Simms of swimming, and Hidilyn Diaz of weightlifting.

Police are still searching for the other missing body parts of the two women who were murdered in Talisay City last Friday.

Yesterday, members of the Minglanilla police and Scene of the Crime Operation of the PNP Crime Laboratory conducted a search in different locations of Talisay City, Minglanilla and Naga City where they brought with them one of the suspects, Richard Gudelosao.

The heads of the victims, Eva Mae Peligro and her helper Gwendolyn Balasta, have already been found.

Police arrested along with Gudelosao his live-in partner Jean Antonette Medalle and the brother of Peligro’s fiancé Joseph Roy Cellar, Friday evening.

Medalle was said to be an accessory to the crime for helping the other two suspects hide it by cleaning the crime scene.  She also allegedly knew of the plan to kill Peligro.

Based on the initial investigation, Gudelosao and Cellar, the caretaker of a house just a block down from the Gudelosaos’, had been allegedly planning to kill Peligro in her house in Talisay City for a week already.

Gudelosao, 27, a taxi driver, was allegedly irked by Peligro for reporting to his brother and parents, who are working in California in the United States, of his constant drinking and drug use that prompted them to stop sending him money.

Gudelosao is the older brother of Peligro’s fiancé, who is working in California.

It was late Thursday afternoon when the two, after reportedly smoking marijuana, first cut the Internet connection of Peligro, who was in her room at the first floor of the two-story building.

When she came out of her room the two alleged punched her and choked her until she died.  Balasta, who came later to check on what happened, was also killed.

When asked why they had to chop up the bodies, Cellar said they needed to fit them into the baggage compartment of a taxi cab, a gift given by Peligro’s fiancé.

The suspects allegedly went out at Friday 3 a.m. to dispose of the chopped remains of the victims.

Security guard Efren Tiquillo recorded the vehicle driven by Gudelosao going out of the subdivision’s Gate 2 bound for Minglanilla town, where at least three garbage bags were found the other day.

The bags contained chopped remains of the victims.

The Minglanilla and Talisay City policemen are preparing a case for double murder against the three that might be filed today while the search of the missing body parts continues.

Last Saturday, several garbage bags were recovered containing parts of the victims’ bodies, including the one found in barangay Laag, Naga City that contained a leg and the upper body of a woman.

Sr. Insp. Romeo Santander, chief of the Minglanilla police, urged the media to refrain from giving gory details of the missing parts to avoid adding hurt to the families of the victims.

Sr. Insp. Mario Monilar, chief of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said only “sick persons” and those under the influence of drugs can commit such heinous crimes.â€" Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
