Bible Study / Re: Imitators of the Saints...
May 19, 2013, 03:33:27 PM
This wonderful verse helps us to relate to the early Christians in marvelous ways.  It plainly shows us that they faced many of the same challenges we do today, and to overcome those challenges, they followed the examples of those who came before them.

The author of Hebrews points the reader towards the great men and women of the Old Testament, challenging the first century Christians to follow the examples of the kings, prophets, and other heroes.  He saw how their example could help guide the people on their own journey.

We can continue to do this today.  We can learn from the courage of David, wisdom of Solomon, and faith of Abraham.  And beyond the Old Testament, we have the heroes of the New Testament, such as Sts. Peter, Paul, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and of course, Christ Himself.  Their examples and teachings continue to light our paths to this day.

We also have the added benefit of looking beyond Scripture at the lives of the saints.  Over the past two thousand years, there have been heroes from every tribe and nation that can serve as models for Christian living.  From St. Francis of Assisi to Blessed Mother Teresa, we should be imitators of the saints who came before us.

The lives of the saints have inspired millions of Christians for centuries.  Which saint has inspired you the most?

To remain steadfast in our faith, we need to simply be imitators of the saints:

We earnestly desire each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of hope until the end, so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises.

Bible Study / Re: God's Oath...
May 19, 2013, 03:30:52 PM
When we make a promise, or an oath, we do so before God.  For instance, prior to taking the stand at a trial, we make an oath to tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.  But how is God involved in all of this?

The point is that our promises mean very little.  We are weak, frail creatures, and we are quick to break our promises.  So when we truly want to guarantee someone that we will not break that promise, we take an oath before God that our words are true.

To follow that pattern, God offered an oath to Abraham, saying that He would bless Abraham's descendents.  God also made a promise to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, that if we have faith in Him, we will, one day, find salvation.

God, of course, can never fail.  He does not need to invoke anyone else's name when He makes a promise.  What is the purpose of God's oath to us, then?  To give us peace of mind.  He wanted to let us know, without a doubt, that this promise would come true.

God's oath, His promise to us, gives us hope in a fallen world.  His promise to Abraham has come true, and we can rest assured that His promise to us, our hope of salvation, will come true, as well.

Bible Study / God's Oath...
May 19, 2013, 03:30:35 PM
Who are we that God should make a promise to us?

When God made the promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, "he swore by himself," and said, "I will indeed bless you and multiply" you. And so, after patient waiting, he obtained the promise. Human beings swear by someone greater than themselves; for them an oath serves as a guarantee and puts an end to all argument. So when God wanted to give the heirs of his promise an even clearer demonstration of the immutability of his purpose, he intervened with an oath, so that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to hold fast to the hope that lies before us.

-Hebrews 6:13-18

Bible Study / Re: Anchor of the Soul...
May 19, 2013, 03:28:29 PM
In the great sea of life, we will be tossed around by the wind and waves.  We are a tiny boat in a large sea, and on our own, we will not survive.  Our only hope is to place our trust in Christ, the anchor of the soul.

What is the point of an anchor?  Anchors are used to keep a boat in the same spot for an extended period of time.  Without it, the boat would be pulled by the current or the waves, and it would be impossible to stay in one place.  Even in calm water, a boat may seem to stand still, but even then, it may slightly drift away.

In our lives, when we have found a place of faith, we need to anchor ourselves to Christ because, like the boat, we want to stay in this place.  When the storms come, He will help us to stand firm.  When life calms down, He will ensure that we will not just drift away.

Truly, this is one of the most overlooked aspects of faith.  When we first find or come back to the faith, it is an exciting place to be. Someday, though, the storms of life will come.  Will we hold our ground?  Or, our passion for the faith will dwindle, and even in the calmest waters, we begin to drift with the slightest current.

With the help of an anchor, a boat will stand firm in one spot.  Sure, the wind and waves may push the boat around, but the anchor will always stay put.  Even in the slightest current, the boat may drift a little, but never too far off.  In that way, storms can never push us too far, and we will never drift beyond reach.  Christ will always keep us anchored where we need to be.

Do not let yourself be tossed around by the storms of life, and do not let complacency drift you away in the still waters.  Put your hope in Christ, the anchor of the soul, and you will stay exactly where you want to be.

Our tradition holds that Jesus calls us individually, by name, to our personal vocation. Each of us has a calling, a particular role to play in carrying out God’s divine plan. Whether you are a parent or a priest, a senior citizen or a teenager, whether you are married or single, a musician or a mapmaker, you have in your heart the ability to serve God’s plan. Stewardship extends far beyond Sunday Mass. Fully lived, the spirit of stewardship enters into all our thoughts, words, deeds and decisions....

In the Pentecost narrative from Acts 2:1-11, the Holy Spirit descends on the members of the early Church, and they are given spiritual gifts, such as the ability to speak in tongues.  Using these gifts, the disciples began spreading the Good News about Christ around the world.

Those gifts were not meant just for the earliest members of the Church.  Each one of us today also receives a variety of gifts to use in service of God.  These are the tools that we use to continue evangelizing and sharing the love of Christ.

Each one of us is called to a different mission, and we have gifts to match.  Few are given the extraordinary gifts of speaking in tongues or prophecy.  Most of us have pretty ordinary gifts - it's how we use them that becomes extraordinary.

A carpenter that travels to Haiti to help build homes is an extraordinary use of his gifts.  A chef who cooks at the local soup kitchen is extraordinary.  A teacher who uses their education background to teach religious education is extraordinary.  There are many ways to use our everyday, average gifts in some very meaningful ways.

Find ways to get involved at your local parish, in the community, or even in some form of missionary work.  Use your skills and talents, whether they come from your career, a hobby, or anywhere else.  God gave you these skills to further your career or give you enjoyment, but He also gave them to you so that you could serve Him.  He wants you to find your unique role within the Church.

This Pentecost, as we celebrate the birthday of the Church, and the coming of the Holy Spirit, find ways to use your ordinary skills, talents, and gifts in extraordinary ways.  Every one of us can make a difference.

On this Pentecost Sunday, in a reading from 1 Corinthians, we celebrate the birthday of the Church and the gifts given to us through the Holy Spirit:

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.

-1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Conclusion

Everyone wants peace. Peace is possible. We have a responsibility to do what is in our power to build the peace. We also need to know clearly what destroys the peace, what offends against the peace. In the Beatitudes, Jesus assures us: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Mt 5:9).

Is "Peace on Earth" the same as the "Kingdom of God"?
(Sollicitudo Rei Socialis #48)

The Church knows that no temporal achievement is to be identified with the Kingdom of God. Rather, all such achievements simply reflect and in a sense anticipate the glory of the Kingdom, which will be fully realized only at the end of history, when the Lord will come again. Earthly progress is of vital concern to the Kingdom of God, insofar as it can contribute to a better ordering of human society (cf. GS 39).

However imperfect and temporary are all our efforts to make people's lives "more human," nothing will be lost or will have been in vain. "When we have spread on earth the fruits of our nature and our enterprise -- human dignity, fraternal communion, and freedom -- according to the command of the Lord in his Spirit, we will find them once again, cleansed this time from the stain of sin, illumined and transfigured, when Christ presents to His Father an eternal and universal kingdom... Here on earth that Kingdom is already present in mystery" (GS 39).

The Kingdom of God becomes present above all in the celebration of the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In that celebration the fruits of the earth and work of human hands are transformed really and substantially, into the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The goods of this world and the work of our hands - the bread and wine - serve for the coming of the definitive Kingdom, since the Lord associates them with himself in an offering to the Father. His one Sacrifice anticipates God's Kingdom and proclaims its final coming. The Lord unites us with Himself and with one another by a bond stronger than any natural union.

He sends us into the whole world to bear witness, through faith and works, to God's love. All of us are called to discover, through this Sacrament, the profound meaning of our actions in the world in favor of development and peace. We receive from the Eucharist the strength to commit ourselves ever more generously to the tasks before us. United with Christ, our personal commitment will not be in vain but certainly fruitful.

Peace and Development

Building the peace means pursuing development. This means pursuing justice for all peoples and nations. It means recognizing a moral order at work in the human universe, and guiding our choices and actions accordingly. It means that citizens of the most affluent nation in the history of the world must use effectively their most important tool, which is their citizenship. We are to give good direction to our national policy for foreign aid, for overseas development, for world hunger, for the availability and management of loans, for trade and terms of trade.

Development is not just a matter of economic and material goods. It involves the whole person: economics, culture, politics, religion: economic needs, cultural needs, political needs, and religious needs.

There are many things we, you and I, can do to promote peace and development. When financial and material resources are freed up by a reduction of the military budget, as a result of perestroika, how will they be used? For world development? For the world's poor?

Will we provide scholarships to qualified students in developing nations to study in our colleges and universities? Will our college and university graduates delay their personal careers a few years and donate several years to PAVLA and the Peace Corps, or even to our home missions.

Will we as a nation insist upon our national compliance with the United Nations' recommendation that every 1st world nation contribute 1 percent of its GNP for world development purposes? Will we ask our legislators to press for greater reciprocal dependency upon developing nations to supply some of our basic needs, and open our markets to them, e. g., for such things as shoes, clothing, fabrics?

Pope Paul VI teaches in Populorum progressio that "Peace is something that is built up day after day, in the pursuit of an order intended by God, which implies a more perfect form of justice among men" (pp 76).
#5844

Paul VI and Populorum Progressio

In 1967, Pope Paul VI wrote an encyclical on "Development," called Populorum Progressio. He was pointing to the reality of the unnecessary gap between the rich and the poor in the world, and developed and the underdeveloped, or, using the language of the New Testament, between Dives and Lazarus.

"Development is the new name for peace." What does this mean? One of the greatest causes of war and hostilities in the world is the presence of gross injustices, disparities of opportunities, suppression of human rights and freedoms. When 3rd and 4th world countries, then anger, resentment, and jealousy smolder and eventually will burst into flames.
#5845

Peace and Justice

Peace demands the rooting out of injustice wherever it exists: between individuals, between social classes, or between nations. It is, in the words of Pope Paul VI, "the fruit of order;" an order shaped "by the values of justice, truth, freedom and love."

Pius XII emphasized throughout his pontificate - that bore the motto Opus justitiae pax ("peace is the work of justice") - the necessary connection between the attainment of justice and the attainment of peace. How well the Pope of Peace anticipated the spirit of Vatican II which declared that peace is "an enterprise of justice."

In his address to the General Assembly of the United Nations and again in his "World Day of Peace Message in 1982." John Paul II underscored the need to sow peace with the seeds of justice: "Unconditional and effective respect for each one's unprescriptible and inalienable rights is the necessary condition in order that peace may reign in a society."

There can be no peace without justice. This notion is eloquently expressed by Cardinal O'Connor in his introduction to the American Bishops' Pastoral on Peace:

There can be no true peace for the world as long as there is political oppression or deprivation of human rights. There can be no true peace unless every individual is free to worship God and exercise a religious faith. There can be no true peace while millions of human beings starve or go homeless, or are victimized by economic systems that deny workers the right to ownership and the fruit of their labors, or that grind them into ever deepening poverty. There can be no true peace for those who must live in daily fear of their lives, potential victims of terrorism. There can be no true peace for those who live under the constant threat of war, the blackmail of potential destruction.

Pope John XXIII and Pacem in terris

Pope John XXIII was a great man of peace. Everybody loved this man, who obviously loved people whole-heartedly. His last great gift to mankind was an encyclical on peace, Pacem in terris (Peace on Earth, 1963). In it he lays down a blueprint for peace. If you want peace in the world, he says in effect, then there is a certain order, a moral order, which all of us must pursue.

He speaks of four levels in human relationships: 1) person to person; 2) person to his society and government; 3) country to country; and 4) person and country to the rest of the world.

Here is a beautiful summary statement of his: "The order which prevails in society is by nature moral. Grounded as it is in truth, it must function according to the norms of justice, it should be inspired and perfected by mutual love, and finally it should be brought to an ever more refined and human balance in freedom" (PT 37).

"Now an order of this kind, whose principles are universal, absolute and unchangeable, has its ultimate source in the one true God, Who is personal and transcends human nature. Inasmuch as God is the first Truth and the highest Good, He alone is that deepest source from which human society can draw its vitality, if that society is to be well ordered, beneficial, and in keeping with human dignity" (PT 38).

Building the peace is a day by day process. It follows the law of gradualism. It is like rearing a child to maturity. It requires patient fostering, guidance, love and self-sacrifice.

Since we're at it, let's study Doctrinal Truth regarding money, shall we?

I. THE UNIVERSAL DESTINATION AND THE PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF GOODS

2402 In the beginning God entrusted the earth and its resources to the common stewardship of mankind to take care of them, master them by labor, and enjoy their fruits.187 The goods of creation are destined for the whole human race. However, the earth is divided up among men to assure the security of their lives, endangered by poverty and threatened by violence. The appropriation of property is legitimate for guaranteeing the freedom and dignity of persons and for helping each of them to meet his basic needs and the needs of those in his charge. It should allow for a natural solidarity to develop between men.

III. THE SOCIAL DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH

2419 "Christian revelation . . . promotes deeper understanding of the laws of social living."199 The Church receives from the Gospel the full revelation of the truth about man. When she fulfills her mission of proclaiming the Gospel, she bears witness to man, in the name of Christ, to his dignity and his vocation to the communion of persons. She teaches him the demands of justice and peace in conformity with divine wisdom.

2420 The Church makes a moral judgment about economic and social matters, "when the fundamental rights of the person or the salvation of souls requires it."200 In the moral order she bears a mission distinct from that of political authorities: the Church is concerned with the temporal aspects of the common good because they are ordered to the sovereign Good, our ultimate end. She strives to inspire right attitudes with respect to earthly goods and in socio-economic relationships.

2425 The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modem times with "communism" or "socialism." She has likewise refused to accept, in the practice of "capitalism," individualism and the absolute primacy of the law of the marketplace over human labor.207 Regulating the economy solely by centralized planning perverts the basis of social bonds; regulating it solely by the law of the marketplace fails social justice, for "there are many human needs which cannot be satisfied by the market."208 Reasonable regulation of the marketplace and economic initiatives, in keeping with a just hierarchy of values and a view to the common good, is to be commended.

IV. ECONOMIC ACTIVITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

2426 The development of economic activity and growth in production are meant to provide for the needs of human beings. Economic life is not meant solely to multiply goods produced and increase profit or power; it is ordered first of all to the service of persons, of the whole man, and of the entire human community. Economic activity, conducted according to its own proper methods, is to be exercised within the limits of the moral order, in keeping with social justice so as to correspond to God's plan for man.209

2427 Human work proceeds directly from persons created in the image of God and called to prolong the work of creation by subduing the earth, both with and for one another.210 Hence work is a duty: "If any one will not work, let him not eat."211 Work honors the Creator's gifts and the talents received from him. It can also be redemptive. By enduring the hardship of work212 in union with Jesus, the carpenter of Nazareth and the one crucified on Calvary, man collaborates in a certain fashion with the Son of God in his redemptive work. He shows himself to be a disciple of Christ by carrying the cross, daily, in the work he is called to accomplish.213 Work can be a means of sanctification and a way of animating earthly realities with the Spirit of Christ.

2429 Everyone has the right of economic initiative; everyone should make legitimate use of his talents to contribute to the abundance that will benefit all and to harvest the just fruits of his labor. He should seek to observe regulations issued by legitimate authority for the sake of the common good.215

2430 Economic life brings into play different interests, often opposed to one another. This explains why the conflicts that characterize it arise.216 Efforts should be made to reduce these conflicts by negotiation that respects the rights and duties of each social partner: those responsible for business enterprises, representatives of wage- earners (for example, trade unions), and public authorities when appropriate.

2431 The responsibility of the state. "Economic activity, especially the activity of a market economy, cannot be conducted in an institutional, juridical, or political vacuum. On the contrary, it presupposes sure guarantees of individual freedom and private property, as well as a stable currency and efficient public services. Hence the principal task of the state is to guarantee this security, so that those who work and produce can enjoy the fruits of their labors and thus feel encouraged to work efficiently and honestly. . . . Another task of the state is that of overseeing and directing the exercise of human rights in the economic sector. However, primary responsibility in this area belongs not to the state but to individuals and to the various groups and associations which make up society."217

I encourage you to do a 9 day novena silently in your room. The devotional novena is powerful.

Stay positive, and tone down the hatred, balong. Hatred and anger hurts the soul. May God Bless you, Balong.

Oh Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that I may ever invoke your powerful name, the protection of the living and the salvation of the dying. Purest Mary, let your name henceforth be ever on my lips. Delay not, Blessed Lady, to rescue me whenever I call on you. In my temptations, in my needs, I will never cease to call on you, ever repeating your sacred name, Mary, Mary. What a consolation, what sweetness, what confidence fills my soul when I utter your sacred name or even only think of you! I thank the Lord for having given you so sweet, so powerful, so lovely a name. But I will not be content with merely uttering your name. Let my love for you prompt me ever to hail you Mother of Perpetual Help. Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for me and grant me the favor I confidently ask of you.

(Then say three Hail Marys).

The fact that the church has shares in the stock market does not equate it with the love of money. Your video does not illustrate your assumption. I entreat you to read into the costs of maintenance of church grounds, worship activities, evangelization activities, missionary activities throughout the entire world.

The Church invests In people, with the aim of their salvation in view. The Catholic Church has been the largest philanthropic organization for most of its 2,000 year history. They are simply following the counsels that Our Blessed Lord said by which we would be judged so we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give alms to the poor, etc.

Expert brands work a ‘landmark’ in development that could help beat diseases

New York: Scientists have finally recovered stem cells from cloned human embryos, a longstanding goal that could lead to new treatments for such illnesses as Parkinson’s disease and diabetes.

A prominent expert called the work a landmark, but noted that a different, simpler technique now under development may prove more useful.

Stem cells can turn into any cell of the body, so scientists are interested in using them to create tissue for treating disease. Transplanting brain tissue might treat Parkinson’s disorder, for example, and pancreatic tissue might be used for diabetes.

But transplants run the risk of rejection, so more than a decade ago, researchers proposed a way around that: Create tissue from stem cells that bear the patient’s own DNA, obtained with a process called therapeutic cloning.

If DNA from a patient is put into a human egg, which is then grown into an early embryo, the stem cells from that embryo would provide a virtual genetic match. So in theory, tissues created from them would not be rejected by the patient.

That idea was met with some ethical objections because harvesting the stem cells involved destroying human embryos.

Scientists have tried to get stem cells from cloned human embryos for about a decade, but they’ve failed. Generally, that’s because the embryos stopped developing before producing the cells. In 2004, a South Korean scientist claimed to have got stem cells from cloned human embryos, but that turned out to be a fraud.

In Wednesday’s edition of the journal Cell, however, scientists in Oregon report harvesting stem cells from six embryos created from donated eggs. Two embryos had been given DNA from skin cells of a child with a genetic disorder, and the others had DNA from fetal skin cells.

Shoukhrat Mitalipov of the Oregon Health & Science University, who led the research, said the success came not from a single technical innovation, but from revising a series of steps in the process. He noted it had taken six years to reach the goal after doing it with monkey embryos.

Mitalipov also said that based on monkey work, he believes human embryos made with the technique could not develop into cloned babies, and he has no interest in trying to do that. Scientists have cloned more than a dozen kinds of mammals, starting with Dolly the sheep.

The new work was financed by the university and the Leducq Foundation in Paris.

Dr George Daley, a stem cell expert at the Children’s Hospital Boston who didn’t participate in the work, called the new results “one landmark step in a very long journey” towards creating DNA-matched transplant tissue.

Now, Daley said, scientists must compare the embryo-cloning approach with another technology that reprogrammes blood or skin cells directly into substitutes for embryonic stem cells. This reprogramming approach is technically simpler and doesn’t involve embryos or require the donation of human eggs, and it was widely acclaimed when it was reported in 2007. Its Japanese developer shared a Nobel Prize last year.

But these substitute cells show some molecular differences compared to embryonic ones, which has led to questions about whether they can safely be used for treating patients. So it’s essential to compare the cells from the two methods, Daley said.

The new results mean “we have another tool,” he said. “We have to learn more about this tool.”

Daley said he believed scientists will prefer using the reprogramming approach unless it can be proven “beyond a shadow of a doubt” that embryo cloning produces better cells for treating patients.

Mitalipov said he believed his technique would present a particular advantage for treating patients with certain types of rare diseases. These are caused by mutations in genes of the mitochondria, the power plants of cells. He noted his technique, unlike the cell-reprogramming approach, would supply tissue with new mitochondrial genes that could replace defective ones. Those new genes would come from the egg.

The Reverend Tad Pacholczyk, director of education for National Catholic Bioethics Centre, an independent think tank in Philadelphia, reiterated his opposition to embryo cloning, calling the approach unethical.

“It involves the decision to utilise early human beings as repositories for obtaining desired cells,” he said. “You’re creating them only to destroy them.”

Marcy Darnovsky, executive director of the Centre for Genetics and Society in Berkeley, California, said she was glad that Mitalipov doubted the embryos could be used to clone babies. She said the report still provides a good opportunity for the federal government to ban the use of cloning for reproduction.

Their strategy is , truly, pathetic. For years they painted themselves as the victims of the mainland's (People's Republic of China) threats of military conquest. The Philippines was one of the countries that maintains diplomatic relationship with them (Taiwan) despite upholding the One-China Policy. And this is how they (Taiwan) treat our nation's kind hardheartedness and diplomatic posterity?

The Taiwanese may believe they have won because of our government's acquiescence to apologize over the shooting incident, however, I believe their over-exaggerated response will lead the world to view them not as victims, but as regional bullies. I fear Taiwan has a darker, cloudier future. Embarrassing and threatening one of your closest allies is not really a sign of your loyalty and reliability.

They use this incident as political and diplomatic blackmail. The audacity of these people. If they don't want our OFWs there or threaten then to hell with them! As if we depend on Taiwan that much. If they are willing to lose 87 thousand Filipino workers there over a miniscule shooting incident, which was the fault of the taiwanese for trying to ram our coast guard ship, then to hell with them! Audacious malevolent buffoons. There are 11 million OFWs, after all.

And when the People's Republic of China decides to invade them in the coming years, I hope they don't dare scream, "Dear Filipino Friends! Help! Send your soldiers to help defend us from the evil communists!"

The Philippine Navy will be purchasing, also, 2 Maestrale Class Light Destroyers of the Italian Navy. These warships have anti-submarine capability, as well as modern surface to air and surface to surface battle ability. These two ships, combined with the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar and the BRP Ramon Alcaraz will silence any futile attempts of the Taiwanese to dare threaten the Philippines again.

The newly acquired frigate, the BRP Ramon Alcaraz of the Philippine Navy.

BRP Ramon Alcaraz, the 2nd Gregorio Del Pilar Class Frigate of the Philippine Navy.

Imagine when the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar and the BRP Ramon Alcaraz with support surface ships of the Philippine Northern Fleet will converge onto our country's northern maritime territorial domain. Those old Taiwanese ships will be within the targetting range of the frigates' CISW phalanx guards, and the Harpoon Missile Systems that will be added onto our frigates.

The Philippine Navy is also planning to purchase 2 more battle-ready frigates from Italy within the next 2 years.

Those Taiwanese won't dare start their saber rattling when the Philippine Fleet will be dispatched.... 8)

Lound sounds , nothing but loud sounds. In the end of the day, they can't do anything to the Philippines because it will annoy the United States, the benefactor of Taiwan's existence. Hundreds of their citizens were caught last year scamming people in the Philippines and deported. Their fishermen continually breach territorial waters of the Philippines to fish on waters within the Philippine's maritime domain as proscribed by UNCLOS' statute of Archipelagic Domain.

I cannot wait until the Philippine Navy receives the BRP Ramon Alcaraz this coming July 2013, so that the Philippine Navy can be deployed to the Bashi Channel and uphold the country's territorial integrity.

Surely you jest. The Holy Mother Church's worth is based on real estate, primarily in churches and church-based organizations , most of the catholic universities and hospitals in the Philippines. An example, would be De La Salle University, which is one of the best universities in the Philippines. The cost to operate the thousands of parishes throughout the Philippines (which is majority Catholic as 80% of the 100 million Filipinos are adherents to Ecclesia Catholica Romanum) is gargantuan. One has to take into consideration operational cost and revenue cost; some times, revenue is less than operational cost. So the presumption that the Church is bathing in money is precipitously false.

Let me give a perspective, expat, in the United States, the Church's operating expenses is around $150 billion, however, this is due to the cost to operate the thousands of parishes throughout the United States, funding for the many catholic relief charities, catholic hospitals as well as the catholic universities throughout the Unite States (for example: De Paul University, Georgetown University, Loyola University etc). The revenue actually is quite lower, and because of that deficit, is the reason why the catholic church in the united states is consolidating parishes.

Please, don't make blind statements about the Holy Mother Church when the cost to operate the millions of parishes throughout the world is just barely enough. I'm sure if you look at the financial balance of many other churches in the philippines, you will see that there are ominous activity in regards to fiscal operations.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, remembering the promise of the Resurrection, I humbly and sincerely offer these prayers and Masses for Roy Rustico Lucino and all the departed. With joy, I thank You for what we shared in this earthly life. With hope, I pray this offering will help them on their journey to the fullness of life and happiness with You in Heaven. Purify them from all that is not holy so they may dwell in the mystery of Your perfect love forever. With blessed anticipation, I look forward to the coming age, when, with Your grace, I shall be united with them again in Paradise.

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

May the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Eternal rest grant to my dearest and beloved Uncle Roy, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him ; May his  soul and the soul of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

MEMORARE,

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
We pray in hope fo rher family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

Daily Offering - Fr. Lucian Pulvermacher, O.F.M. Cap.

God the Father,
I thank Thee for creating me.

God the Son,
I thank Thee for redeeming me.

God the Holy Ghost,
I thank Thee for sanctifying me;
infuse into my thoughts,
words and actions Thy grace,
so that they may be supernaturally pleasing to Thee
and supernaturally rewarding to me, forever.

O Blessed Trinity,
abundantly assist me in becoming that
which Thou intended me to become when Thou created me,
for in that perfection
I will give Thee the glory Thou desirest of me,
and in that perfection I will find my greatest joy in
heaven.

Bible Study / A Prayer for Might Against Greed
May 15, 2013, 05:37:25 PM
Displaying the treasures of Your work, Jesus, You invited me to follow You, To sell my goods, to give to the poor, And to completely submit Myself to You. Desires for wealth leads to greed, Satisfaction never being reached. He who seeks no earthly possessions Is free of all avarice aspirations. Jesus, edify my weak human nature, To resist unnecessary commodities, Those classified as evident luxury. May I subdue all greedy tendencies!

Teach me, Lord Jesus, to be generous:
to serve You as You deserve;
to give, not counting the cost;
to fight, not heeding the wounds;
to toil, not asking for rest;
to labor, not seeking any reward,
save that of knowing that we do Your will.

Amen.
