Corella has a new cemented road from Dao Terminal going to Balilihan. I hope that the constuction  will continue going to Catigbian and  Sagbayan. Salamat sa mga opisyal sa atong local govt. nga nanimgkamot. This was my observation when I had a vacation in Corella last Ail 27, 2008. It was my first comfortable ride from Tagbilaran to my home in Canangcaan .

As a teacher, when I was teaching Filipino, I meet problem in the tranlation in Filipino.
Teacher: Translate this sentence,"Take good care of your personal properties.
Pupil: Aalaga-an ninyo ang inyong sariling ari.
Teacher: Tama ba?.
Pupil: Yes, sir
Teacher: Translate this sentence, "Are you renting a house?"
Pupil: Nag-upa ba kayo sa bahay?
Teacher: Naku! Hindi lang ako nahihirapan sa accounting in Tagalog, lalo na sa pagtuturo ng Filipino.

Akong namatikdan nga ang mga barrio pista ge merge na  sa town pista sa ubang lugar tungod sa
crises. Ang mga barrio pista nagpadayon  gihapon sa ubang lugar for identity and pride. Ang mga pista sa Bohol mao ray pista nga dili ka magutman kay pakaonon ka bisan ug dili kaila.

Yes, many OCT in Corella were received by land owners and heirs.  They were so happy that for the first time they had seen the title of the the lands they owned. It was a big burden to the heirs because of real estate tax. They did not know  that upon the death of the land owner, they should settle the inheritance tax to the BIR so that it will not add interest and surchages. Some OCT were named by their parents who died long ago. The real estate tax is more that the present market value of the land. This is now the worst problem  we ever had today to the poor heirs of the land. THe land can not be transfered to the heirs and  can not be sold because of this fast growing tax. I would like to appeal to the mayor of Corella, Hon. Vito Rapal on this matter requesting the BIR to give amnesty to real estate tax.

In the early1900  to 60's, dates of fiestas were  informed through a 'big bang' or it was called luthang in Bisaya. During the novena on the eve of the fiesta, a big bang is heard up to 15 kilometers away from the town. A big bang is a loud sound from a metal cannon blown by gunpowder. A big bang is meant a big fiesta or very big preparation. This culture is not anymore observed nowadays.

Corella is the smallest town of Bohol. Most of the people in the early 40"s migrated to mIndanao in search of a greener pasture. The first man from Canangca-an who lead to look for  land was Catalino  Sayon ,commonly called Iyo Enong. When he found a fertile land suited for farming , he invited more to join them. There are more  Corellahanon in Davao that those left in Bohol. We populated and built a new town in Davao called New Corella, a fast growing and progressive community. Many Corelahanon owns big tracks of land in New Corella and other neighboring municipalities. Its because we are hardworking with strong vision and determination in life.

Canangcaan, Corella, Bohol
April 30, 2008

To Revenue District Officer
Tagbilaran City

Corella, BIR Collector Agent
Corella Bohol

Sir/Madame:

          Good Day.

I am appealing to your good office to grant real estate tax amnesty to the land owners of Corella, Bohol. I believe this the only recourse we can pay this' fast  growing tax'.

In 1988 all lands in Canangcaan were surveyd by DENR. Some of the names of the OCT were erroneosly named to land owners who died long time ago.  Since there was no  partition of the lands  prior to the survey, the names of the land  was to their lolo or lola who were already dead. If we compute the real estate tax, it is more than the present market value of the land. At this time the heirs can not anymore pay the said tax .The heirs did not know about real estate tax how it multiplies everyday. They were happy that for the first time they had seen titles of lands but is still a big burden for them. In my case , I went to Corella BIR agent. I was given a long list of requirements. The procedure is still the old practice, a long delay and not systematic.

I am appealing to the Hon. Mayor , Vito Rapal to help alleviate this situation particularly in barangay Canangcaan.
Hoping that this request be granted favorably at soonest  time to avoid surcharges.

Very truly yours,

FELIX B. DARAY

Tungod sa kamahal sa bugas. Magdaginot kita . Sa panahaw, makasave ka ug 50% kon mag arroz caldo with chicken.   Maglugaw sa ug duha ka cup nga bugas. Tadtaron nimo ang one fourth kilo nga chicken bisaya. Pabukalan ug lat-an hangtod maluto and bugas. Isaghol ang  tanang lamas sa paglata , gamay nga vitsin, asin depende sa inyong templa. Pwede na kini sa breakfast. Good for  5 persons.

Ang kan-on ug sud-an kaisa ra giluto kay magsagol ra man gihapon sa tiyan.

I did not know that there was already high school in Sikatuna in the early 70's. I left Corella Bohol in 1969 and permanently residing in Digos City.

Historical Development    of New Corella, Davao del Norte, the son of Corella, Bohol

The New Corella has a simple history fifty-five (55) years ago. In the year 1935, five years before the outbreak of World War II, a group of Boholanos headed by Catalino Cajes Sayon, a young agricultural graduate and fresh from his adventures in the United States, arrived in a small barrio of Bugwak, part of the former District of Saug, now the municipality of Asuncion, (Barrio Bugwak is now the barrio of New Bohol) to seek for lands they hope to till and cultivate as their own.

Not satisfied of the terrain and location of the lands around Bugwak which are hilly, these Boholanos moved on a little farther north. Utilizing the native Mangguwangans and Mandayans as their guide, they arrived at Mopia plain wherein they were amazed and attracted of the potentialities and rich resources for irrigation. To develop the place, the Boholanos took the opportunity of occupying and tilling their respective claimed land areas.

The plain became the haven of the second, third and fourth wave of Boholano settlers and after a year, the barrio of New Corella was born, a name given after their hometown at Corella, Bohol. The barrio being fully established, became the fourth barrio created within the eastern part of the vast Saug district territory.

Like any other places, New Corella has a mythical story that every Corellans are proud to tell and cherish.

Year after year, different tribes like Leyteño, Ilonggo, Ilocano, Cebuano and many others begun to thrive in the said plain with farming as their main source of livelihood.

As a municipality, New Corella was formerly a barangay of her mother town Asuncion. It was once created through a Presidential Proclamation in 1964 and was fully established in 1965 after the first set of municipal officials duly sworn in to Pres. Diosdado Macapagal in Manila.

Appointed as first Municipal Mayor was Hon. Prospero S. Amatong who held office only for eleven (11) months because after the election in 1965, the supreme court declared its creation as illegal and unconstitutional. Thus, in 1966 Cong. Lorenzo S. Sarmiento filed a house bill no. 394 creating New Corella into a municipality. This was enacted and approved on June 18, 1967 through R.A. No. 4747. From this beginning, marked the rebirth of New Corella as a municipality.

The first elected mayor of the town was Hon. Arcadio E. Omega. He served the municipality from 1968 to 1971. It was during his incumbency where development programs and projects were first introduced and implemented. In other words, he pioneered the development of the town. His worth and capabilities were proven when he was re-elected as the Chief Executive and served the town from 1972 to 1980. For this, he was able to continue the plans for the development of the municipality.

The second chief executive of the town was Hon. Miguel C. Darunday and he was elected in January 1980. He served the people of New Corella as Mayor from February 1980 to March 1986. When her Excellency Corazon C. Aquino took over the Presidency by virtue of "People's Power" during the EDSA revolution on February 1986, Hon. Miguel C. Darunday was replaced by Vice Mayor Daniel B. Turan. He served as the OIC/Municipality Mayor of New Corella from April 1986 to 1987. He was elected as mayor when he ran for the post in 1988. During his term, infrastructure project such as public market and public  terminal were conducted. Because of his honest and devoted leader of the town, he was able to implement programs and projects for the upliftment of the living/economic condition of the populace, particularly projects that supports agricultural productivity.

Four years is not enough for him to make his dream come true for the betterment of the people of New Corella since various projects were left unfinished, so it was for this reason that he ran for a re-election on May 11, 1992. Luckily, he was re-elected by a majority votes and he was re-elected again last May 1995 election.

New Corella  comprises twenty (20) barangays. The biggest one is Poblacion with 8,128 people and the smallest barangay is Patroceño with 550 people.

New Corella falls under the fourth (4th) class level having an average annual income of P2.0 Million taken from realty taxes and other revenues derived from small and medium scale industries.

Basically, New Corella is an agricultural one having an area of 21,605.04 hectares or 67.20% devoted to agricultural activities. Livestock and poultry raising are backyard in scale. It likewise constitute a vital economic  activity.

Tomato world's most popular fruit
The tomato is the world's most popular fruit. And yes, just like the brinjal and the pumpkin, botanically speaking it is a fruit, not a vegetable. More than 60 million tons of tomatoes are produced per year, 16 million tons more than the second most popular fruit, the banana. Apples are the third most popular (36 million tons), then oranges (34 million tons) and watermelons (22 million tons).

Tomatoes were first cultivated in 700 AD by Aztecs and Incas. Explorers returning from Mexico introduced the tomato into Europe, where it was first mentioned in 1556. The French called it "the apple of love," the Germans "the apple of paradise."

Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A and C and fibre, and are cholesterol free. An average size tomato (148 gram, or 5 oz) boasts only 35 calories. Furthermore, new medical research suggests that the consumption of lycopene - the stuff that makes tomatoes red - may prevent cancer. Lycopene is part of the family of pigments called carotenoids, which are natural compounds that create the colours of fruits and vegetables. For example, beta carotene is the orange pigment in carrots. As with essential amino acids, they are not produced by the human body. Lycopene us the most powerful antioxidant in the carotenoid family and, with vitamins C and E, protect us from the free radicals that degrade many parts of the body.

The scientific term for the common tomato is lycopersicon lycopersicum, which mean "wolf peach." It is a cousin of the eggplant, red pepper, ground cherry, potato, and the highly toxic belladonna, also known as the nightshade or solanaccae. There are more than 10,000 varieties of tomatoes.

Tomatoes are used in many food product, including, of course, tomato sauce (ketchup), pasta and pizza. According to a Steel Packing Council survey of 1997, 68% of chefs use canned tomatoes for convenience, quality and flavouring. It hasn't changed much since.

Tomatoes - world's most popular fruit.

A fruit is the edible part of the plant that contains the seeds, while a vegetable is the edible stems, leaves, and roots of the plant.

Cooked tomatoes have higher concentrations of lycopene than non-cooked tomatoes.

Don't store ripe tomatoes in the fridge. Cold temperatures

A diamond will break if you hit it with a hammer!
A diamond is the hardest natural substance on earth, but if it is placed in an oven and the temperature is raised to about 763 degrees Celsius (1405 degrees Fahrenheit), it will simply vanish, without even ash remaining. Only a little carbon dioxide will have been released.

Diamonds are formed over a period of a billion or more years deep within earth's crust - about 150km (90 miles) deep - and is pushed to the surface by volcanoes. Most diamonds are found in volcanic rock, called Kimberlite, or in the sea after having been carried away by rivers when they were pushed to the surface.

A diamond is 58 times harder than the next hardest mineral on earth, corundum, from which rubies and sapphires are formed. It was only during the 15th century that it was discovered that the only way to cut diamonds was with other diamonds. Yet, diamonds are brittle. If you hit one hard with a hammer, it will shatter.

The largest diamond
The world's largest diamond was the Cullinan, found in South Africa in 1905. It weighed 3,106.75 carats uncut. It was cut into the Great Star of Africa, weighing 530.2 carats, the Lesser Star of Africa, which weighs 317.40 carats, and 104 other diamonds of nearly flawless colour and clarity. They now form part of the British crown jewels.

The Cullinan was three times the size of the next largest diamond, the Excelsior, which was also found in South Africa. The world's largest documented polished diamond - unearthed in 1986, also in South Africa - is called Unnamed Brown. It weighs 545 carats and was cut down from a 700 carat rough diamond. It took an international team of expert cutters 3 years to complete the masterpiece. Another impressive diamond that also took 3 years to cut, and also is part of the British crown jewels, is the Centenary Diamond. It weighs 273.85 carats and is the world's largest flawless diamond.

Not all diamonds are white. Impurities lend diamonds a shade of blue, red, orange, yellow, green and even black. A green diamond is the rarest. It is not the rarest gemstone, however. That title goes to a pure red ruby. Diamonds actually are found in fair abundance; thousands are mined every year. 80% of them are not suitable for jewellery - they are used in industry. Only diamonds of higher clarity are sourced to the jewellery stores.

Synthetic diamonds
Late in the 19th century, Scottish scientist James Ballantyne mixed lithium with bone oil and paraffin, sealed it in iron tubes and heated it to red hot. He claimed the resultant stones were diamonds. They were stored away and only many years later they were found to be diamonds, although synthetic.

Weighing diamonds
A diamond carat differs from a gold carat. The gold carat indicates purity - pure gold being 24 carats. One diamond carat is 200 milligrams (0.007055 oz). The word carat derives from the carob bean. Gem dealers used to balance their scales with carob beans because these beans all have same weight.

The colourless Cullinan, the biggest diamond ever found, weighed 0,62kg (one and a quarter pound) uncut.

The Greek word adamas is the base word for diamond. It means "unconquerable."

Diamond is the birthstone for April and the anniversary gem for the 10th and 60th years of marriage.

The tradition of a diamond engagement ring started in 1477 when Archduke Maximillian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy. The modern tradition is the result of a clever advertising campaign designed by N.W.Ayer in the 1940s. The fact is that diamonds have little resale or investment value.

Fiesta Time!
IJsselstein, Thursday, 25 July 2002 03:42:33

In Bohol, every town and barangay (village or neighbourhood) has its own Fiesta in celebration of the patron saint. Once a year, the entire town is  decorated for the annual feast, in which there will be plenty of free food and drinks for all. Preparations for the fiesta already start long before, preparing the decoration, and saving for food, and fattening the pigs -- because no fiesta can be complete without lechon baboy, roasted pig, and plenty of beer and tuba to match. Everybody is welcome, no invitations required!

Fiestas can take place in any part of the year, but especially the month of May is the month of fiestas. Not a single day will pass without a fiesta  somewhere on the island. It is at that time that most Boholanos return home, coming from Manila, or from the other places where they have settled, both within and outside the Philippiens, to celebrate the fiesta in their native place in their native place. Often loaded with gifts for relatives,  the famous Balikbayan boxes. Even those who can't come will at least try to send such a box back home for the fiesta.

Every year, Tagbilaran, the capital city also has the kick-off, and starts the Fiesta month on the first of May, with its own fiesta, in celebration of the city patron Saint Joseph the Worker. The whole city is then decorated, and all public life will come to a total standstill, to make place for a day of merry making.

Corella, Bohol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Corella Municipal Hall
Catholic Church, Corella, BoholCorella is a 6th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 6,048 people in 1,263 households. It is located 10 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Tagbilaran City.

Corella is known primarily as the home of the endemic Philippine Tarsier, the world's smallest primates. The 7.4 hectare Philippine Tarsier sanctuary run by the Philippine Tarsier Foundation, as well as the Research and Development Center is in Barangay Cancatac (Canapnapan?) of Corella, about three kilometers from the town proper.

The people of Corella are predominantly conservative Roman Catholics who belong to the Parish of Our Lady of the Village (Latin: Nuestra Señora del Villar) whose feast is celebrated on April 27, only four days before the Feast of St. Joseph, the patron saint of Tagbilaran City celebrated on May 1.

Corella does not have any major industry. It boasts of abundant water supply underneath its patrimony, benefitting mostly the residents of Tagbilaran City with the infrastructure design catering more for the city. As such, it is the town that has become indebted to the government-owned but privately run water distributor for its water consumption.

[edit] Barangays
Corella is politically subdivided into 8 barangays.

Education of Corella from the Past to the Present
   by fdaray

Elementary education was so difficult to acquire in the early 1940's to 60's. Corella Central Elementary School was the only school with complete elementary education. After finishing primary grade mostly pupils in the barrio schools quited schooling. Only few continued to enroll intermediate grades because of poverty and distance to  the central school. If some graduated Gr. 6, only very few pursued high school in Tagbilaran public schools. Through the effort and initiative  of Mr. Ramon Gasque,   he opened  the   second    intermediate  classes in Canangcaan Elementary School in 1960. It was a funny fact that the first batch of graduates were  mostly older than their teacher, Miss Marcela Lumactud. After two years, Canangcaan intermediate classes was closed due to insufficient enrollment.  So, I decided to continue at Corella Central Elementary School for Grade 6. With all the pains and sufferings rain or shine, I had to hike 4 kilometers morning and afternoon just to complete my elementary education.  To mention some of my classmates: Isabelo Daquipil former vice mayor , Reynaldo Irig former mayor, Miss Lydia Bete, public school teacher ,Elesio Sayon , Concisa Limsan from Canangcaan who as my only companion and Cancio Revita. Canangcaan Elem. School was reopened because many pupils
from nearby barangays of Balilihan and Sikatuna enrolled. From that time on, many were able to enroll high school at Bohol School of Arts and Trade and Bohol Provincial High School. Latter on, in 1980 Corella National High School was opened.
So, nowadays  education is  accessible to all .

Kon wala moy premarital sex sa uyab ninyo, inquire him in the most convincing and courteous way if he is tuli. He is your lifetime happyness.  Somebody might be teasing you that your husband is pisot.

Kinahanglan jud magpatuli para nindot tan-awon. Sa mga dalaga susiha kon tuli ba inyo uyab. Kinahanglan magbreaking una sa dili pa magpakasal.
