Mel,

I am very shy in person. My weakness is my sensibilities.

#39110
the last person I openly told them "I love you" was an individual in my 2nd year of college. And she laughed at me.

Broke my heart.

Since then, I've rarely opened my feelings to them, aside from letter or from posting it on blogs. Painful experiences, embarrassing experiences.
#39111
So it comes out for you guys that easily?

ah, I wish I could be as vocal when it comes to things like that.
I always get embarrassed when it comes to the moment,
rather I write letters to them or do tell her in private.

It enforces the nuclear ban. The French, British, are also active in testing nuclear warheads in the pacific.

One reason the west is adamant against North Korea and Iran's nuclear ambitions is due to the fact that they are rogue nations.

The United States claims to have locked its nuclear warheads in a safe location. Who knows if thats true. All I know is that each and every single carrier and sub in the US Navy at least 1 nuclear warhead in its bowels.
Quote from: calle on April 23, 2009, 09:50:48 AM
well, we don't see/feel the effects of such tests till years after, i guess.

sounds interesting to me. and the USA has the guts to make protests everytime a non-ally tests its nuclear arms/program, North Korea in particular.

Yup. There have been massive protests on the liberal left to dispose of all nuclear arsenal; as well as protests on further nuclear testing.

The United States does maintain a M.A.D policy. (Mutually Assured Destruction). It would only launch a nuclear warhead if it was attacked first.

If you really like teaching, but want to get paid more, its best to pursue your Ph.D and teach in the college/university level.

A starting un-tenured professor (Ph.D educated) have a decent pay. Assistant Professors (untenured professors) start anywhere around $50k~. A tenured professor (Associate Professor) makes around $80k -$100k.

And a highly seasoned professor, or department head makes well.
~$100k +

Angie,

A starting teacher in the states will make probably around $40,000 a year. They also get Federal life insurance, health care coverage, retirement 411K, and summer pay.

Seasoned teachers make anywhere around $50,000 -$80,000.

If you come out of college with a Masters in education, your starting salary will be higher; around $45k - $50k.

Internal interpretation lang from that parable of the mustard seed.

Something so small, like a mustard seed can become the largest of all garden plants. And it isn't just a regular tree, it becomes one that has branches. Note that Christ tells us that birds even perch on the branches of the mustard tree (which once was a mustard seed). Its important to remember that in old Hebrew understanding, the animals of the air have a primary or importance over animals on the ground. Why? Because they can fly, closest to Heaven. Animals that fly have a heirarchical importance. The fact that the birds will 'perch' on the branches of the mustard tree symbolizes the transfiguration of the mustard seed.

Something that was so small, what many would consider 'impudent' 'worthless', becomes a source of rest and home for even the animals that fly.

Christ tells us, that through work, and through faith, even the smallest can become GREAT. Can become higher and achieve their fullest potential.

Remember what he said in his sermon on the mount.
"The meek shall inherit the EARTH."

He reiterates just that in the parable of the Mustard Seed.

Anyone, can become great. Through work, through faith, through savings, and godly mind. Remember David. He was nothing but a mere sheppard boy. A sheppard boy that became the greatest King of All Israel. The anointed king David, of whose line would bear the line of Mary, who would bear her son, and our saviour. Christ Jesus.

:)

Mustard Seed, indeed.

I strongly believe that how we use and manage our money is a faith issue. God expects us to be good stewards.Dili lang sad palabian ang katihik kay sala napud na.Saving money is important labi na ug naa kay mga anak.
Yes saving is extremely hard.Spending is so easy and give you that instant gratification.Learn to deny yourself of something you don't really need.Saving isn't something you just turn on or off it's a mind set.The power of discipline the rewards of time.

Absolutely,

Remember Jesus told us about the Parable of the Mustard Seed, how something so small can blossom, through faith and hard work, to something larger and fruitful.

Recite lang ko from Mathew 13: 31-32,

"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches"

The captains of American industry such as Vanderbilt, Carnegie and Rockefeller were all immigrants, or children of immigrant parents in the 19th century and early 20th centuries.

These captains of American industry were the builders of the American railwaylines, coal industry, shipping, phone lines, etc. Propelling the United States economy into unprecedented heights.

But these men were so very thrifty.

Mr. Vanderbilt, who was a billionaire in the 1800s! (imagine a billionaire in such a time); he would even pay with coins (pennies, nickel, dimes, and quarters even).

Carnegie, who was a great philantropist, built universities, schools, parks, reservations etc, and planned ahead.

Carnegie-Mellon University, which is in the city of Pittsburgh, is a product of Carnegie's vision. Carnegie placed some millions of dollars for the college's endowment. He ordered it to be saved and placed on time savings. Today, the endownment is worth billions.

Being rich isn't about being greedy, its about being well thought, strategic, planning, and thinking about the future. Maybe not your own, but for your children's or grandchildren. etc.

These thermo nukes and super thermo nukes were designed and built for just that purpose.

Instead of 'tank killers' or 'army killers'

These are 'Nation Killers'

Literally.

You know, Ive read military journals some semesters back regarding the war with Japan some 6 decades ago. The United States had an option of invading Japan uner the plan called 'Operation Olympius', however, there were military war hawks in the United States Department of Defense that cautioned President H.S Truman of the phenomenal numbers of American casualties that would be sustained in the invasion of the Japanese home islands.

They inclined Truman to use more 'merciful' tactics. There were military staff in the Defense Department that called for the complete saturation of Japan after the dropping of the Atom Bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

200 some atom bombs over Japan would have completely eradicated the entire Japanese people.

80 some million Japanese men and women would have been 'neutralized'.

Thank God Japan surrendered after Nagasaki.

The United States has super thermo nukes that are tens of thousands times more powerful. God willing they will never have to be used.

I would assume either somewhere in American Pacific islands.

The rationality of my 9 year old brother. It made tear in joy.

For his birthday, I took him to Toys' R'Us and told him he could buy legos, games, and toys but with a limit of $100. I took him to the Legos isle expecting him to get the big box of Knights and Castle, which was priced at $80. I was wrong.

Andre took a small box of Knights that cost $7.99. I asked him if he was sure. He said, 'Yes Kuya."

Then he pulled me down to whisper in my ears, "Kuya, is it okay if you just buy me this little box and give me the $92 in cash?"

To my amazement, I agreed. As we walked out of the store, I noticed that he had a big smile on his face, as we walked hand to hand to my car. I bought him a wallet, and put in his wallet the $92.

That afternoon, I was outside mowing the lawn, and trimming the side. Then to my surprise, my little brother was outside helping me. He helped me unload the  grass from the lawn mower bin.

I found out later that my father paid my brother $20 for helping me mow the lawn. My baby brother was collecting and saving. This was in July.

By September, he had in his wallet a little around $300 worth of cash. And I asked him, 'Andre what are you going to do with that money? Buy a PS3? games? toys?'

He smiled to me and said, "No kuya. I'm going to put it in my bank. '

Hahahaha!

I smiled then. And I still smile now.

Hi Nicholas,

I'm delighted to know that I am not the only who's passionate about this book. There so much passion, romance, jealousy, and repertoire in this book that makes it tengentially historical yet at the same time it gives us, the reader from a totally different epoch, a view of how life was like, lives were affected, families changed, societies forever ameliorated by the Reign of Terror.

I think Anatole France's work joined fact and fiction seamlessly because of the heightened situation of the time. Her works provided the readers in Britain, the Americas, and other parts of Europe a view of the situation in the ground so to say. An early version of Yellow journalism, so to say. l

History can be boring sometimes, with all the dates, and transitions of government, elections of officials, speaches, executions, coronations, births, deaths etc. This novel gives us, the reader and history student, an assymetrical vantage point. We see history, in particular French Revolutionary History, in the eyes of Evariste Gamelin and his companions. We see the struggle for power, rapture of power, we see his yearnings, his romanticism clashing with expected revolutionary ideals and duty.

Humanity, at its purest form.

There is a maxim that my dad shared with us in our youth;

"A penny saved everyday makes a man, healthy, wealthy, and wise."

Since we were young, our dad always told us to save, and keep piggy banks.
And it works. Start as piggy banks, then soon transfer over to savings funds, investments etc.

Children should be taught how to save money early. Teach them the value of a penny, quarter, and then dollar.

Mr. Benne,

That is the cost of Freedom. The men and women that honorably serve their Country and their Flag are expected to do their job. The American does not accept failure, and expects the best and only the best of our soldiers in arms.

To battle with those who threaten our ideals, our institutions, our way of life, and our People.

The United States has suffered about 5,000+ deaths in operations in Iraq, and Afghanistan.

As much as that is, it is the price of freedom and safety.

The American people know the price of honor, and freedom.

The United States sacrificed over 62,000 American boys in the re-capture of the Philippines in 1944. Because American honored its promise to free the Philippines, it willingly sacrificed 60,000 of its boys. 50,000 more in the defeat of the Japanese in Iwo Jima and another 60,000 in Okinawa.

Over all, 250,000 American lives were lost in World War II to liberate the world from the yolk of tyrrany and destructive idealism. (Nazism, Imperialist Japan).

We have bled for freedom.

The American soldier dies in honor. And he is NEVER forgotten.

The Mighty American Eagle forever enshrines its soldiers in memory.
Forever, in its history, a testament to our defense of Freedom and Democracy.

God Bless the U.S.A

The new administration's new goals is to steer the country to new light. Obama's re-establishment of friendship with France, Germany and many other EURO nations as well as in South America has repaired some damages that has been done to the American image.

As we, as a people, stood for and still stand for.

The United States of America, a the champion of the Free and Democratic World, honors the human rights of nations, those who are allied and even hostile. We have already examplified our transparency by closing Guantanamo, as well as releasing CIA classified files that were gained in the use of questionable interrogation tactics; and outright banning such tactics from use ever again.

Where no other nation in the world would so as much to even think of doing that, the United States, as always, leads by example and by deed.

As humane and understanding is the American people is, it should be reiterated that we are not flanking in the propagation and defense of the American Cause. Democracy and ideals that are precious to us.

The insidious 9-11 attacks was a failure for Al-Qaeda. They thought it would weaken us. It has strengthened the American people, and the American Will to triumph and supersede. That the truths that we defend shall not perish from this earth.

So Help us God.

I hope this would never have to get this far as to blow up an entire nation.

Yes' i found it quit ballsy the other weekend when they test fired a missle!!!

Ms. Priscilla,

The North Koreans that tested their missiles are poor scientists. Russian expertise, that is why. Any Russian-based technology is sub par, and inferior quality.

The North Koreans were testing a  ballistic missile, in the guise of a 'sattelite' being launched.

NASA has already established itself as the ethereal masters of Space, and there is no launching of missiles/ or satellites by other powers that goes unnoticed or isn't scanned by American satellites (and we have THOUSANDS) in the heavens.

The North Korean missile was so poorly constructed that it crashed.

North Korea does not know that the United States has hundreds of Thermno Nuclear Warheads in Okinawa, Japan (a permanent American base).

As well as tends of thousands more in the bowels of the hundreds of American Wolf-class nuclear submarines and Super Air Craft Carriers that are around the world.

If North Korea was stupid enough to launch a missile towards Japan, American anti-missile technology from our AEGIS-class warships and from our 18 Super Carriers would shoot them down.

North Korea can literally be wiped out by 2-3 American themo-nukes.

Which would reduce their population of some 30 million to mere thousands if not hundreds.

American thermo nukes will obliterate concrete, steel, and even mountains. And those that survive the blast, will die of heavy radiation poisoning within hours.

Again, their own doom is their action.
#39154

American will GLASS any region who is responsible for the deaths of our people.

In 9-11, they killed 3000 Americans.

What was America's Response? We mobilized a 500,000 man Army, sent out our Navy (4 carriers and a fleet of destroyers) and the air wing. We destroyed the Taliban, and established a free Afghanistan, a democratic one.

Iraq, fell to our Military within 2 weeks.

Our response was supreme; at the deaths of 3000 of our citizens.

In response to the dictum of this entire thread,

I think it is evidenlty clear that correlation and understanding between the United States and terrorist states such as Iran is impossible.

Ahmadinejad's putative comments against Israel and the United States and the Western EURO nations is evident of the impossibility. As charismatic as Obama is, even his progressive stature will not change the closed minded theocratic radicalism of the Mullahs in Iran. Ahmadinejad has not real power, he's a mere puppet, a voice.

Koemeni holds the power in Iran. And is the epitime of rigid theocratic absolutism. And we are allowing them to continue with nuclear experiments?

There will be a time when the American Eagle will have to outstretch Its Hand and smite these radicals. Who preach about death of America and the cries of our people.

Why? highlighter? Why must thee do this to me? lol. I shall declare war on the kingdom of highlighters.

The synopsis of the film made me chuckle in glee, and fraternal happiness. :)

Regarding rural-based American men falling in love with Filipinas. :)
I grew up in the mid-atlantic states, where there is a considerable amount of Filipno-Filipino relationships, new immigrants, 1st generation Fil-Ams and 2nd or even 3rd and 4th generation Filipinos.

When I went to college in northwestern Pennsylvania, in Allegheny College--an institution perfect situated in the Allegheny mountains and on the foothills of the scenic Adirondacks mountain range, I would occassionally traverse to local towns and boroughs to purchase foodstuff and goods.

In one farmer's market, I met a man by the name of Bill Erling, a native of Meadville, Pennsylvania. Typical German-Irish blooded American, whose ancestors were the early settlers of the great state of Pennsylvania "Deutsch Pennsylvania" as the state is called, lol.

And when I was purchasing tomatoes and some bean sprouts, a very familiar voice received me from behind, "Hoy kammusta!"

I turned around I saw an asian female, who I guessed was the wife of Bill. Then I realized she was talking to me, i guess she made the correct guess of knowing I was Filipino. I couldn't help but smile and laugh, and answered back. A long dialogue occurred.

Then to my surprise that Bill started talking in Tagalog. :)
I found out that Bill was in the US Army and stationed in Subic some decades ago and met Mrs. Arlene Erling there. They now have beautiful 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.

Isn't it beautiful? In the blue ranges of America's midatlantic state, and other states, that there are American men, conservative men with strong ideals that reaffirm and characterize American idealism, are married to Filipina wives.

And I also found out that Bill is a well-taught chef who specialized in Adobo and pang kare kare. lol.

I attended some of their barbeque events in my college year.

Yes. it is beautiful. The Filipina is indeed, very beautiful.

Many, many American men have already made that known ;)

I started having this pain Vids when I was still in my mid 20s.  One time pa gani didto koy assignment sa Cebu adto unya kay sugmat man jud as in sakit akong bat-ang, pag adto nako sa Chong Hua kay naa daw koy "slip disk" and I needed surgery asap.  Unsa ka asap pod ko ning layas sa doctor's office.  Tiaw butangan daw ug steel akong likod.  No way, Jose!  Well, usa sa ingon sa doctor na maka trigger kining tag-as ug heels akong shoes.  Well, I'll deal with the pain. hahahaha

Naa bay chiropractor diha sa ato, Vids?  Or basin naa Cebu kay sure ko naa sa CDO.  Pag try daw pa treat sa ila.

Ate Ging,

If it was a slipped disc, then the treatment for that (complete effective treatment) is surgery. Now we have what is called no-invasive laproscopic surgery; Ive seen this in the OR where the physician doesn't pierce the skin with a surgical knife but merely makes a minor incision, where a 1.5 cm tube goes inside the affected region, and repairs the affected spinal disc.

If severe, and if there is a tumoric growth on the associated spinal nerve, which we can observe through proper MRI and CT scanning, we will then utilize what is called Explorative Surgery. The surgeon will have you in prone position, and make a lateral incision with scalpel, peel back the cutaneous adipose tissue, separate the origin of the Lattisimus Dorsi muscles that cover over the spinal cord. And remove the tumor and or place biomedical replacements for the affected/defective spinal disc. We can do this now vairly easily.

After surgery, everything is repaired, sutured, and the patient is put under fluids and provided with a heavy dose of Percocets or Oxycontin. Which are nothing but pain killers.

In 2 weeks, the tissue will heal, and patient removed from pain killer medication at appropriate time. Damage rectified.

In dealing with LDD's, the final solution is only through surgery.

OT: laughing at patients is considered medical mal practice, over here in the United States.

That is basic medical ethics.

many physicians/surgeons have been sued for Milions for doing just that.

As a physician, one is to provide help and care, and understanding of the patient, and not laugh.

#39183
hey anytime.

And for that doctor that laughed at you, if you see him, tell him that an American medical student said, "Sir, THAT is not very professional. Grow up"

Tell him that came from me. Straight up.

I can't stand physicians that are like that.

All the best to you, Mel.
Pray pood ha, prayers can supplement what medicine can offer. :)

My physical therapist gave me pain killers before. But he said, it's not good to take regular pain killers since it can damage the kidneys. Other than that, I am not taking any thing.

I'll be based in Manila soon. When I get there, I'll see those specialist you mentioned.

Thanks, dong.

I think I'll just write another nobela, or a pain diary, no, then show it to the doctors. Kapoy na kaayo sige narrate sa ako gibati.

This may help.... hmmm.

Yes, that is true, pain killers will affect the Pentose 6 Phosphate pathway, in liver and kidney. But these are the risks we take if the pain is really severe.

When you go to Manila, Mel, go see:

1. Neurologist
2. Orthopaedic specialist.

ask them about possible treatment and drug therapy that can alleviate your pain for the time being.

take care of yourself,ha

The reason why MRI and CT scan is used as preferred to x-ray is because CT scans and MRI can develop 3D imaging, and can go indepth as compared to the limited xray.

In CT scan we can find any damage to the spinal disc, if there is a disc damage, it will cause pain not only in the contralateral and ipsilateral side of trauma, but also in areas of the lower extremity. all of which you described.

this kind of phathology can be treated by anti-inflammatories, and if is very severe, exploratory surgery can be done to see what the cause is. either it be a lesion of the associated region.

I am asking you Mel to see a neurologist as well; as they specialize in nerve damage and can assess your symptoms better than I.

Do take care of yourself.
#39186
Mel, so you are having pain in your lower extremity, legs, thighs as well?

Mel, that kind of pain is symptomatic for possible LDD (lumbar disc disease), the most common form is called Sciatica.

Mel, you said you had Xrays, X-rays are good but they are not efficient. That is old style method of diagnosis, already.

Ask your physician to have MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and CT scan.

Bran.
#39187
Mel,

Just reading your history, it seems that you are experiencing what we call neuropathic and nocicpetive pain.

It is interesting that you mentioned that it lapses and comes. I hve a friend, who is also a medical student as I, he complained of back pain as well; at first when he explained to me his symptoms, it rings back to what you are having. I thought he was just hypochondriac, but one time when we were walking, he was screaming because of his back pain. I had him go to the hospital to have a osteo consultation, wala man kono tissue damage.

This winter break, he went back and had a consultation, still wala. Then he went for acupuncture and says he hasn't had it. I don't know.

The kind of pain you are describing is a globalized neuropathic and nociceptive. This indicates damage to the nerves, since you are feeling it in your lower extremities, and the fact that you have felt this since 1997 is alarming.

Please ask for a referral to a back pain specialist; to consider non-invasive or even invasive surgical procedures that can solve this.

I don't want to be biased, Mel, but I am very leerie when it comes to chiropractic solutions when it comes to chronic pain. It can even lead to further nerve damage. Just from basic anatomy ug physiology na.

Have you been prescribed pain medications?
Considering the severity of your condition. Ask your family doc about it.

But my recommendation lang is to see a lower back/pain specialist.
and Neurologist.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

In the light of good debate and exchange of opinions regarding this topic, I will abstain from further dialogue concerning the Roman Catholic Church and other church's views on the RCC.

I believe that the animosity of all Christian Churches between each other is a work of the devil, who will inspire and incite negative comments on one another, the believers and followers of Christ Our Lord.

So, it is best for us to merely understand their point of view. And pray for them.
Many churches, though different in teaching as the RCC have basic truths that are in line with what the RCC has proclaimed since the rising of the Lord and following days of Pentecost.

Lets work on the common ground, rather than on the differences that divide. Let us not entertain negative notions of one another, again, such notions are demonic in nature. The devil works always to try to ambivilate the faithful.

MAY THE LORD GOD REBUKE him! I humbly pray.

Archangel Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,
Defend us, children the of the Most High, and His Church.
From the snares and futility of the devil.

Amen.

oh i did not see the answers, thank you...i understand a little better!

Another question....

what are the enlightenment ideals and how do they manifest into terror?

how is religion connected to enlightenment ideals?

No problem, yea, I explained and went in-depth. Am sure you will find many of your answers in my previous posts.

Enlightenment ideals are humanistic, my friend. They are notions and beliefs that proclaim the universality of human rights, equality, democracy, fraternity, and egalitarianism.

To better understand, I advice your read the works of Voltaire, Lock, Thorne, Montesque and De Maupassant.

You opined, "how did the enlightenment cause the reign of terror"

It didnt' cause the reign of terror; the enlightenment was a philosophical manifestation of the thinkers; philosophers, politicians, theologians of the day--as a response to the abuses and totalitarianism of the governmental system in place: Absolute Monarchy.

The enlightenment, in nature, is peaceful, and just is just that---ENLIGHTENING.

The abuses of power, deaths, and instability that we observe in the French revolution wasn't caused by the Enlightenment. It was caused by men, and a copious horde of masses that executed peoples/thinkers that didn't believe and share the same view as they. They murdered, and extolled grievances in the name of Revolution, not knowing that their very actions--was the very antithesis of The Great Enlightenment.

In analyzing the situation, I think it is adequate to refer to Lord Acton's quote, "..absolute power corrupts absolutely."

How is religion connected to the enlightenment ideals?
If you read new testament and old testament, you will know what I'm talking about.

Good luck on your paper. :)

Mr. Rald,

I highly salute your response, sir.

Boholanos are an industrious, educated, motivated, and optimistic people. For all foreigners to flaunt that they will leave their investments and halt planned investments in Bohol because of this case, I think it is very rude to make such a statement.

There are thousands of Boholanos that are employed, enjoy a well round lifestyle in Bohol, and thousands more around the globe that bring back remittances to their family.

Boholanos over here in the United States of America are highly respected professionals: Nurses, Doctors, Engineers, Teachers!

Please don't offend us by showcasing peso rewards and threatening remarks, because do you think we are that lowly to grobble for scraps? I am a Filipino-American, Philippine-born, but grew up here in the states.

And for one who has worked and competed and collaborated with many Americans (be they black, latin, asian or white American); equality and common decency is goaled. There are thousands of homocides in Britain, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, Japan, China on foreign nationals. Many of whom have been unsolved.

Every nation has its own laws and regulations. When you enter that nation, you are expected to follow their laws, and work with the established office of that country. Same as how Filipinos that immigrate to the UK follow the rules, regs and pay taxes in the UK.

There are over 1.3 Million Boholanos in Bohol. and thousands of more boholanos around the world as professionals, and expats. We are not 'dependent'.

The death of Mr. Martin Williams is deplorable, and he has our condolences, but for anyone to attack Boholanos (women and men) and make gross allegations and generalizations is preposterous.

Let us be open minded and reasonable.

A brother in Christ,
Bran Lorenzo
