Knowing The Choice

Life is filled with decisions. Easy decisions, hard decisions, traumatic decisions. Sometimes the Right decision may not be popular nor easy. In the end, the decision is yours to make, but do find strength in The Lord Our God.

Who sustains you and justifies you to make that Right Decision.

Yea the culture show was great, you know i was even going to skip out on it and went hard on the books on Saturday, had it not been for my friends that persuaded me to take the Saturday evening off.

Azile, I feel for you and your brother and the situation he was in. Yes its true that life is filled with varying circumstances that can test one's faith, your brother's predicament is definitely a good example, as you point out to us.

And your response to his question, is in my opinion, very altruistic, and positive reinforcing.

Yes, I so completely agree with your remarks. "Don't stop praying."

There are times that we are discouraged either by physical attributes, due to some kind of failure, a lacking in something, or even in an accident or loss, but instead of giving up and lingering on the fact, one should look optimistically to the future, and at the same time, TRUST in GOD.

You see, it is in our weakest moments, our most sublime moments that we can truly feel HIS presence and are reminded of our own innate mortality and finity. We are reminded that though as much as we like to organize our lives, our plans, our works, our deeds, our thoughts, we are never really in control. And that I can attest to, personally.
But what one should do--is to put TRUST in GOD.

It builds firm faith, and faith builds wonders, and through our faith, comes our prayers. And our prayers, rise like incense before the Tabernacle of the Most High. I do guarantee you this.

The Lord God may not answer our prayers according to our expectations, at times, and and sometimes he may not aswer it or provide a response according to our times, but HE does answer and appropriates a response according to HIS own time. According to HIS purpose and HIS will. And HIS WILL BE DONE.

Your brother must remember that life is precious.
Pray and heal. Heal and pray. All is the same, really.

Just have faith. God will provide.

And God Bless you, Azile. May our Lord strengthen you and sustain you.
Your family and your life.

Take care of yourself, friend.

Ethyl,
Yes, I did take that long exam in the beginning of 2nd year (this past may 2009)

I scored as: ISTJ (Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judgment)

What was your score?

Yes, that link, 'te.

It gives one an illustration of the Power of God.
One can only imagine how the Egyptians felt like when they crossed the Red Sea in pursuit of the Israelites. Then God closed the waters on them...

The power of Our God..

I was sent a link by my cousin on that journal website with pictures. Shocking bitaw ang pictures.

What is calm one moment, is next a raging inferno of unpredictability.

What do we take out of it? What is the yolk of that message?

It is this: That life and the materialistic is finite. Not eternal. Life is filled with unpredictabilities, filled with challenges, moutains, deep currents. That if one false step will swallow us into its own reverie. But the point, brethren, that im trying to get across is that tho this life, this mortal shell known as our bodies, is but a finite point of our existance. We are born, we live, and so too shall we die. The only difference is our time and manner of death. But death is guaranteed, that is inevetible. But don't fear death or linger in the prospects of death. But focus your attention on doing good and completing the best that you can with what you can and in the provisions that you have vis a vis your faculties, your skills, and all the presents that Christ Our Lord, has appropriated for  YOU.

And when the time comes---and believe me, it will come for each and everyone of us--we won't be so much afraid at the prospect of death, but accept that Christ Jesus is indeed in control and guider of our lives.

Incidences such as these are meant to strengthen your faith, and trust in GOD.

It is a reminder that our plans are never our plans, but are in accordance to the Will of God. And that--everything--everything and everyone accords his or her lot in life through GOD's TIME.

These young men did not die because their GOD hated them or cursed them. No. They were taken because nature was unstable. It was written for them in the Book of Life. Their sanctification and their justification is their love for Christ. (We pray).

Death is never the end. Death is the release of the soul.
And its return to Our Savior Lord. Who will Judge according to our works, deeds, and faith.

God Rest the souls of the two young men.
AMEN.

Each and everyone will have their own vice. When the vice consumes you, or takes prevalence to your relationship with God and to family--then by right, it becomes a personal idol.

'You cannot serve both God and Money'

I know friends that are gamblers, and from observation lang, its a hard habit to kick out.
Psychologically speaking, its a hard habit to take. It is what we call in medicine as "Variable Ratio" and its highly resistant to extinction, in psychoanalytic review.

Thanks for the clear explaination Bran. I never felt like a scribe or chief priest before lol .I am asking almost the same question 2,000 years ago.
About the priest scandal I know it's sad and you are right who are we to judge. I know Satan was in his full force of waging war against Our Lord so he make sure he will attacked the weakest among the weak of Jesus choosen one. He never bother temping those  who are tempted because He know it's His already.

The Church has ever proved indestructible. Her persecutors have failed to destroy her; in fact, it was during times of persecution that the Church
grew more and more; while the persecutors themselves, and those whom the Church would destroy, are the very ones who came to nothing.  . . .

Again, errors have assailed her; but in fact, the greater the number of errors that have arisen, the more has the truth been made manifest. . . . Nor has the Church failed before the assaults of demons: for she is like a tower of refuge to all who fight against the Devil.

Yes, Amen! Your words are filled with the Holy Spirit, Ate Raquel.

The teachings that we have professed and reiterate comes from the sanctified Apostolic Tradition, which is correct and sanctified. The Roman Catholic Church bears its line, directly to Peter the Apostle. Do note that there were many apostles (12) and of the 12, when Jesus asked them who the people thought He (referring to Christ Jesus) was, their answers ranged from "John the Baptist, A teacher, Prophet Elijah"

But out of the 12, it was Peter, who was Sanctified by the Father, that answered, "You Are THE CHRIST. The Only Son of the Living God!"
(matthew 16)

hehehe! So as you see, yes there are many apostoles that preach, and profess the faith (to which is correct), but It was Peter--that was sanctified. He was the First Apostle. He was the one that started his ministry in Rome.

We bear our justification of the Church in Matthew 16. Christ especially and Specifically appropriates special power and responsibility to Peter, expeclicitly:

Let us read:

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"

16Simon Peter answered, "You are THE Christ, the Son of the living God."

17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

(Matthew 16: 13-20)

---

Though The Holy Roman Catholic Church may have suffered setbacks in centuries prior because of the abuses of power by some men of the clothe, the Church was not at fault. The Church is absolutely and completely Infallable. The Church is the direct link between GOD and Man.

It is correct to say thatthere were some men that took advantage of their responsibilities and their powers to appropriate favors, titles and earthly rewards.

But that was addressed in the Great Reformation, and the constant admonishing of those that lost their way is always addressed. So you seen, We, His Church, is the body of men and women that profess in the faith that has been taught to us-UNCHANGED since the beginning of the Church.

The Church is implaccable, it is innocent of wrongdoing. Men, and Women may have fallen to the sway of temptation, due to our innate grievance to sin, but the Church itself, is untouchable. You see, in cannot be touched. Christ justifies it. Nourishes it. Protects it, and defends it.
Hell cannot nor does it have power over it.

Those that have attacked the church were broken. Communism, tried to destroy roman catholicism and the faith in Eastern Europe. Russian Bolshevik communism fell within 40 years. And in Poland (which was a communist state for almost half a century), bursted in Catholic Fervor. We saw this when Pope John Paul (Il Papa) visited in 1980. The communists could not even control the local population, as MILLIONS gathered to hold a Catholic Mass by the pope, the High Priest of Jesus Christ.

It is humbling to know this. That the Communists who tried to subvert catholic and christian teachings for the past 40-50 years and tried to outlaw religious attendance as a 'foolish opiate of the masses' failed absolutely.

Communism ( a political theory that belives in only the State and denies A God) was destroyed.
Destroyed.

You see, nothing can touch the Church. Nothing.

They may threaten the Church with weapons, guns, propaganda.
They may have their day for years, even decades, but as we observe---their wickedness and their impurity is not ignored.

For EVERYTHING goes and accords iself in GOD'S TIME.
Catholic Faith (in faith) destroyed communism in Poland. Not by war, or death, or guns, but simply by faith. Faith that moved men and women's hearts to search for Truth. For equality and liberty. In search for Truth.

hehehe.

Amen.

Chào các bạn và gia Ä'inh Boholanos!
(Hello friends and Boholano Family!)

I know it has been a couple months, but I have not forgotten all of you. I hope you all find this message well, as some of you know, I was trying to find a way to do meaningful work in the Philippines, but my life's direction has taken me to Việt Nam (VN). I have been volunteering for about 2 months here, teaching English, my NGO partners with the Daughters of Charity in VN.  They head many social services throughout the country and it is in this context I teach English. To witness the Sisters' ardent dedication to the people is beyond uplifting and I can say I have gotten closer to my Faith due to seeing their Love in action.

I have so many stories to share which I will be sharing from time to time. I did meet a couple of Cebuanos who was a seminarian and a Sister in Saigon. There is a small community of Filipinos here I am trying to get to know.

If any of you are in Saigon, please feel free to msg me. I will be in the city for another two months.
In other news, I am also worried about the recent bombings in Mindanao and I am praying somehow the region reaches peace.  I am still planning to visit Bohol/Mindanao this Fall..

Ok, that's all for now, take care everyone!
-Leo

Greetings Leo,

I was wondering where you have been as there have been many a discussion that we've started and left incomplete, or put on pause. Reading your post, I was brought to great admiration for your cause, your pluralistic point of view in life, your passionate altruism. Please tell us more about your experiences so far in Vietnam, your works there, the life and setting in that country.

I do recollect in your blog page that you used to volunteer in New Orleans after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, and was really touched by your passion to help others.

And it reminds me, after reading the gospel today, "let your light shine so bright, and show your good works, so that others will Glorify Your Father who is in Heaven."
You my friend, are an example of a 'Doer of the Word.'

An inspiration for many of us, and a light and guide to many of those who you are preciding over there in Vietnam.

We are proud of you, Leo. I am very honored to have met such a wonderful person like youself. Do visit us more, and share with us of your experiences abroad.

From my heart to yours, God Bless You.
Take Care of yourself as well.~

A very nice topic.I am practising this tithe. Sa atong mga catholic dili pugos ang tithe but for me I see the beauty of this command. Read Malachi 3:10[b]-"Bring th ewhole tithe  into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."[[/b]color=green][/color] When I read this I feel hesitant to do it especially if budget is hard but when I remember the lines "Test me in this" I was moved to do it and obey God. After I obey God and give my tithe regularly I did not see any single time that when I need something I lack.Blessings & provision just come unexpectedly. Aside from that giving tithe is not only protection about our finances, it also protects our family from sicknesses ( If nag tithe ka,member ng family mo will have good health instaed na ang kwarta nimo mapunta ra sa medicines),protection of our bussinesses to flourish, relationships to be strong,etc.etc..But God wants us to give with a cheerful heart not a grieving heart because napugos ka.

hehehehehe! AMEN! In Jesus Lord's Name, AMEN!
Because your faith is so beautiful, the Lord Our God blesses you!

That is why we are reminded to tithe, we do so because we have Trust in HIM.
Faith and TRUST in HIM!

That is what GOD wants. He wants us to Trust Him. And hold strong to our Faith.

Amen!

Ingoon atong GINOO that those that steal and do things for the selfish goal to gain men's praise and reward is guilty of Hypocrisy. The Lord Our God is so sincere and so OBSERVANT that he knows what is our hearts. He knows that if we are doing something for a genuine cause or reason, and knows it when an individual does so to gain favor among men, and least emphasis on THE LORD OUR GOD.

Remember that verse that I shared sa first page in this thread.

There were two people giving tithes to The Temple of God. One rich man who gave with his excesses, and a poor woman who only gave 2 cents.

The Lord Jesus Christ saw this. And you know what Our Lord said?

He said: Look at that woman, tho she only gives 2 cents, she gives more than all others combined. Because the others are giving only their excesses, but this widow woman, this poor old woman, gave all that she had. All her life's livelihood.

So beautiful kaayo atong GINOO.

He knows everything. If we are in financial distress, or in a trying position in finances, but we still give anyway to GOD, he knows this and feels it. He searches our hearts, and our souls. The fact that we give, despite our pains and our limitations to give, He will bless us.

He promised us so in Malachi.

We might not experience the blessings immediately, but it will happen.
Because as you see, brethren In Christ, everything happens in GOD'S TIME.
hehehe

:D

Love you all,
be good,

To my dear Ate Raquel,

Your question was an honest and a pure question, and just the fact that all of us are congregating and communing with one another looking for answers and talking and explaining to one another is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit---that is In all of Us.

Our eternal souls, cannot help but yearn, innately, to look towards TRUTH. It searches for truth, it hungers and thirts for truth. Because TRUTH is the very One who created our  eternal souls. It is The Lord God Of Heaven who Sitteth Upon the Heavens.

We are discussing this because we are thirst and hunger for righteousness.
Hehehe, that is a good trait for anyone to have, in actuality, I am glad that you guys are responding so much to this thread. The reason why I started this thread was because of a sermon my priest had several weeks ago, and after reading about it. I merely wanted to share The Word.

And lo and behold, responses came abound. We respond because our soul beckons us to ask for answers. It is the innate being within us to search and ask for Truth.

hehehe, as you said, we are still asking teh same questions--that were asked 2000 years ago.

Keep up the Faith. Beautiful kaayo imung faith, 'te Raquel. And to M, as well.
To all that believe and take it to heart, even those that read this and don't respond yet agree to the message of the Word.

God bless,,,
all of us~

Dong, the SSRIs are the first-line agents for depression, not because they are more effective than the other drug classes but because they are generally safer, with fewer side effects. Most of the TCAs I see in practice right now are either used as 2nd-line agents for refractory cases, or as sleep aids. One can OD easily with TCAs though, thus the limited use in clinical practice. I almost never see anyone on MAOIs anymore. Out of the hundreds of patients on anti-depressants that I see, probably just one or two are on MAOIs. The SNRIs have pretty much the same safety profile as the SSRIs, with the added benefit of NOT causing as much weight gain as the latter. In fact, many patients lose weight on while on this med class. The last one is Wellbutrin, which acts on NE and Dopamine (and a little bit on serotonin as well), a lot of people prefer this coz it doesn't cause the sexual side effects that's typical with SSRIs. This can be used as an adjuvant also with SSRI therapy, to counteract the weight gain side effect.

Can you discuss fish oil, dong? Very promising pud siya sa depression.

Hahaha yes yes yes! Sharp and correct jud ka oi!
Agree ko sa imung observation 110%.

;)

I will honor your request, darling Ate.
Fish oil is also good for hyperlipidemic states. It has been medical established that increased intake of fishoil has lead to the increase of HDL (high density lipoproteins), which is good for the heart (cardiothoracic health). And increase in HDL will result in a reduction of LDL (low density lipoprotein; and ldl is correlated to atherosclerotic growth --> which leads to prothrombotic states---> which can dislodge and cause systemic embolus---> can cause visceral infarct ---> if untreated via thrombolytics and anti-platelets/anticoagulants, will lead to Death.

Since HDL outcompetes LDL for the ldl receptors in the liver, this will lead to the metabolism of ldl and prevention of its development in to cholesterol states; thereby increasing the health of the patient.

HDL = very good for pt
LDL = contraindicated for pt.

Dear Ate,
I will honor your request.
Give me a few days. lang.

The atypical anti-psychotics are considered 1st-line these days because they cause fewer extrapyramidal side effects than the older agents. Monitor carefully lang ta ani kay ga cause ni sila metabolic syndrome and less frequently, agranulocytosis (esp. with Olanzapine).

Personally, ang akong nabantayan nga common side effect with people on anti-psychotics, dong, is tardive dyskinesia. It's barely noticeable on others, but on some people, very pronounced gyud. Mao nang usually, trial and error gyud to treat this. Most people don't do too well on monotherapy anymore.

Hello Darling Ate Ethylene,

I'm glad you found this little niche, hehehe.

Ang primary anti-epileptic strategy namo karon is to address the situation. Initial treatment to suppress or reduce the incidence of seizures is based on the specific types of seizures. Thus tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures are treated differently than say---absence seizures (petit mal).

The use of monotherapy is initiated w/ a single agent (phenytoin, phenobarbital, ethosuximide, valproate (valproic acid or di-velproic acid), or zonisamide, or BNZ, or GABA-PENTIN. -- we administer monotherapy until seizures are controlled or or the toxic signs occur.

If seizure conditions is refractory to monotherapeutics, a second drug may be added to the therapeutic regimen.

You are right tho, 'te, monotherapy is rare nowadays due refractory effects.

To answer the question and the notion of the priest scandals, we have to keep in mind that priests, ministers, men of the holy order, are not free from sin.
Romans 3:23 tells us, 'For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God."

Not one of us is perfect or born without sin. Not the pope, not the priests, not the ministers, not baptist ministers, not nuns, not missionaries, not you, nor i, not even the babies, not anyone. For all have sinned. That is guaranteed by the fall of Adam and Eve.

Our salvation comes only through Christ Jesus. That is and must be recognized.

But on the notion of some priests and men of holy order who have come to sway, their sins and their faults do not reflect on The Church. For the Church is infallable. It teaches the Word of God, which is Infallabe. It is correct to say that Some men in church may sin and have abused their powers and forgotten their sanctified sacramen of royal priesthood.

It is not for us to judge them, because they need not our condemnation, but our prayers. They are, and i am sure of this, know of their own inner struggles and fell into temptation of the devil, may the LORD GOD REBUKE him.

In the end, brothers and sisters, we as human beings, are going to be flawed. We are sinful people. None of us is exempt, and therefore, there some aspects of our religion will be flawed, because we as people are innately flawed. But we are justified.

You know how and why?

Easy. Simple. Though our religion is flawed, our Faith is Perfect. So through our FAITH, man and religion is perfected. hehehe.

:::

22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

There are some of us that teach that tithing is not unecessary, there are some of us that would say that Christ's death and rising of the Cross has pardoned us from the need to observe the LAW, and preach that belief alone is enough. I say to them, that way of ministry and that teaching is erred.

It is in contradiction to what Christ Jesus Tells Us, DIRECTLY:

(Matthew 5:17-19)
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

---

If we teach Scriptural Doctrine, we have to teach EVERYTHING, and observe everything, teaching the wrong thing---is not only ambivalent, but in contradiction to God's Word.

Christ Came to Fulfill The Law. He specifically tells us not a pen or stroke will be edited from The Law until the Very End.

For anyone to argue otherwise and teaches otherwise, is blaspheming.

Amen.

Do our tax can be considered as Tithe? The Old Testament tithes function much like an income tax. Christians are supposed to give to help the poor. Put the two ideas together and the income tax/welfare state combination is simply the state enforcing part of Christian morality.
Do our church still help the poor or they are busy renovating new church buildings, paying the victim of those been sexually abuse by priest and so on.
Yes we give 10 percent of our income in the church and help the missionary work abroad financially and we pay income taxes too which for sure this goes to welfare and some government project.

Ate, you ask a very legitimate question, and one that is worthy of answering. And if we read the Bible, yes, we are told the answer. You see, Jesus Christ OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, answered this very same question some 2 thousand years ago, when He was asked and questioned  by those around him.

So what does Our LORD AND SAVIOR has to say about the tax and the law of man (note that the law of man is NOT GOD's Law; we need to differentiate human law from Divine Law).

-----

The scribes and chief priests sought to lay their hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people, for they knew that he had addressed this parable to them.
20
4 They watched him closely and sent agents pretending to be righteous who were to trap him in speech, in order to hand him over to the authority and power of the governor.
21
They posed this question to him, "Teacher, we know that what you say and teach is correct, and you show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
22
Is it lawful for us to pay tribute to Caesar or not?"

(Luke 20:19-22)

And CHRIST ANSWERS THEM:

Recognizing their craftiness he said to them,
24
"Show me a denarius;  whose image and name does it bear?" They replied, "Caesar's."
25
So he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

(Luke 20: 23-25)

---

So , Christ Jesus, tells US that we pay taxes to any governing body, either it be Caesar or to any King. In Our case, it is to our government, and pay the taxes that is required to them. We render to the government what is the property of the government---which in this case is our annual tax.

But we Render to God what is God's. What does Christ say about this? He means to tell us that we Give to God what is required by God. Which is---THE OBSERVATION OF THE LAW. In this case, honoring the law, and fulfilling the law (Tithing included). We tithe to give to God.

It is humbling, really, to know that though 2 thousand years have passed since Our Savior was in this Green Earth, nothing really has changed.

And HIS MESSAGE remains absolutely Thesame.

Yours In Christ,
Bran

Ate Raquel, you, indeed, point out something that we all should take the time to ponder, and at the same time need to remain steadfast in reading the word.

First and foremost, let us give our Thanks to God, one, for allowing us to even think and talk about this, which is a testament to the Holy Spirit within our bodies (The Temple of The Holy Spirit). The fact that we are communing among one another and discussing this is testament to His presence in this conversation.

---

Remember and read this verse from Malachi, which Resounds in The Lord God of Hosts' message to Us. This message was resounded for His People, Israel, and so it resounds to Us, his adopted children through our faith in Jesus Christ.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows” (Malachi 3:10).

We have to remeber the Law of Moses. The very law that The Lord God of Hosts wrote with his Own Hands. And we Know, in our hearts that Christ Jesus Who is the Alpha and the Omega, was the One that wrote that Law for Moses.

As Christ Jesus is The Lord God of Hosts. He is the Only Begotten Son of The Father. And is inseparable from the Father.

Jesus Christ even tells us that He and the Father Are one:
(John 10:30): And Christ Said, "I and My Father are ONE."

Christ Specifically tells us that he was there in the Time of Moses, as He was there even before the time of Prophet Abraham, who is the father of all Israel.
(John 8:58): And Jesus said unto them, 'Before your father Abraham was, I AM.'
Remember that the ETERNAL covenant with God and the People started with Abraha, from which The Law would be given to Moses (centuries later).

We know that Tithing was part of the Law of Moses.

But we ask ourselves, did Christ come to break the law? Did He tell us to evade the Law? Of course not, He came not to abolish the Law, but to FULFILL it. He wrote the Law, guys. Christ IS GOD in the Flesh. How could The Creator and Alpha the Omega break His Own Eternal and Everlasting Covenant with His people ISRAEL, which was validated and legitimized by THE LAW, that He gave to Moses (rhetorical question ra ni)?

Let us remember what Christ told US and continues to Tell US:

(Matthew 5:17-19)
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

---

Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).

What the Bible is saying here is: Give what you are genuinely happy to give.
It is not saying: Give more than you can afford, and then pretend to be happy about it.
The closest thing to a formula for giving in the New Testament is found in the words, “…as he has purposed in his heart…”
God wants you to give what you want to give, what you are comfortable in giving. If you cannot give it cheerfully, don’t give it at all. God doesn’t want it, and He won’t accept it.

When Jesus went to the desert, he was tempted by the devil satan who tried to promise him with everything, riches in the earth, kingdoms etc. For the cost of bowing down and worshiping him.

Jesus Then Told him, may The LORD GOD rebuke him, "Thou shall not tempt THY LORD THY GOD. Be Gone!"

And the devil satan disappeared.

So for us who are tempted in our daily ways, and we will be tempted, try our best lang to remember Christ's Message. When we profess in THE LORD GOD's Message, the devil will come here and there to try to get us to lose our focus, and to question, to try to ambivalate. Don't listen to it.

Focus and stick to Your Faith.

You have more power in you than the devil.
For our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

What Jesus is telling us in Luke 21:1

is that we give to GOD with what we can afford, but we give through our HEART.
Because Our Lord sees through us. He does not see the paper that is given or the metal coin that is placed in a basket.

He sees our HEART. That tho we might be poor, struggling alot just to make the day's meat, we still take part of our finances to give a little to THE LORD.
On our own free will. He sees that, folks!

He knows how much we worked for our salaries, he knows  how much we have to pay for our rent, our food, our groceries, he knows that we have dependents, he knows we have to pay for taxes, for tuitions etc. But,

We give to HIM anyway. AMEN!
That shows faith, folks. Faith in GOD because we have trust IN HIM.
Bless GOD so HE WILL BLESS US.

Remember Matthew 6:33,
"Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God and HIS righteousness, and all these these shall be added unto You."

Sige, God Bless~

Even if we are poor (and i am part of this, as i am very poor in finances) just give what we can and what is appropriate for our finances. The Lord God knows so much already our circumstance~

Our LORD JESUS CHRIST even pointed this out:

Jesus then looked up ans saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all: for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings to God, but she our of her poverty has put in all the livelihood that she had."
(Luke 21:1)

Oh what a POWERFUL Testimony~~

When we give, brother Koddi, don't be so worried on who gives or what amount a person gives. We give, because we know in our heart it is right to Give to God.

God does not care what amount  you give, for ALL THE EARTH IS HIS FOOTSTOOL.
hehehe.

He sees that we give. And what is in our HEARTS.

Even those that take advantage of collections.
For they have already reaped their rewards.

If you give TO GOD, you will be blessed by GOD.
Because he knows your faith.
If you are poor and you tithe, with the amount that is suitable for you,
Surely, the LORD WILL BLESS YOU.

If you are rich, and you tithe none, do not expect to be blessed.

Simple Fact.

Especially in these HARD Times, you guys will know what I mean.
And if you read these verses in scripture regarding Tithing.
You know what I mean.

“You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year.  And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.  But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the LORD your God has blessed you, then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses.  And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.  You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.
“At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates.  And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

-- Deuteronomy 14:22-29

----

Message that is being told: If you tithe to THE LORD GOD you will be BLEST! If you tithe and give back to the LORD because of your abundance and your success, you give Back to the Glory of God. If you tithe, you will be blessed. Because God observes that you give to Him, no matter how much  you give, you still give.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
--- 2 Corinthians 9:7

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

Inspiration & Hope / The Concept of Tithe
July 11, 2009, 09:07:48 PM
Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the law in which all Israelites were to give 10 percent of everything they earned and grew to the Tabernacle/Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). In fact, the Old Testament Law required multiple tithes which would have pushed the total to around 23.3 percent, not the 10 percent which is generally considered the tithe amount today. Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites in the sacrificial system. The New Testament nowhere commands, or even recommends, that Christians submit to a legalistic tithe system. Paul states that believers should set aside a portion of their income in order to support the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

The New Testament nowhere designates a percentage of income a person should set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Some in the Christian church have taken the 10 percent figure from the Old Testament tithe and applied it as a “recommended minimum” for Christians in their giving. The New Testament talks about the importance and benefits of giving. We are to give as we are able. Sometimes that means giving more than 10 percent; sometimes that may mean giving less. It all depends on the ability of the Christian and the needs of the church. Every Christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom in the matter of participating in tithing and/or how much to give (James 1:5). Above all, all tithes and offerings should be given with pure motives and an attitude of worship to God and service to the body of Christ. “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
#36955
Mr. Ferniz,

Your auntie was a good example a "doer and 'hearer' of the WORD.
hehehe

James 1:22-25: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

Thats one thing Im ashamed of that I grew up here in the USA, because I wasn't exposed to a greater form of Bisaya or even Tagalog. Thats one thing I wish i had, the ability to speak and understand bisaya to a greater extent. Growing up around Americans and speaking only English and the occasional Spanish (to my latino buddies), one grows up alienated from one's own Ancestral Culture and Ancestral Tongue.

I don't know of any book that teaches Visayan grammar.  There's a dictionary authored by a certain Fr. Cabonce, but it is an English - Visayan one, not Visayan - English. This means that it has a limited number of words because there are a lot of Visayan words that do not have any equivalent or translation in English.

Thanks for the reference, Koddi. I'll check out if they have a PDF version of Fr. Cabonce's work. Ive been looking online to see a Bisayan Grammar Book. Haven't found anything, but ill check this book out.

I think, IMHO, that Philippine Schools should definitely teach Bisayan (Cebuano) throughout the country. It should at least, considering the fact that there are more Visayans are a large bulk of the population.

In Georgetown University, they offered Filipino in the language curriculum. Pero Tagalog based. A friend of mine, who is bisayan, told me that most of the students were White or Filipino-American collegiates. The funny thing is that most of the pinoy students were bisaya. What a shame, they should offer Bisaya-Filipino as well as Tagalog-Filipino.

Personally lang, when I hear bisaya spoken, its very smooth to hear. Romantic sounding. Tagalog is spoken too fast, and high toned.

If you want SCRIPTURAL MANDATE, I will provide:

We find Paul laying his hands upon the heads of John's disciples in [Acts 19:6] and they received
the Holy Ghost and prophesying.
In [1 Timothy 4:14] we find that Timothy is admonished to "not neglect the gift that is in him
by the Laying on of the Hands of the Presbytery."
In [2 Timothy 1:6] Timothy is again put in remembrance of the gift {ability} that was in him
by the putting on of the Hands of Paul.
These are just some of the incidents in the Scriptures where the hands are used. Usually it is
in connection with some kind of deliverance, either spiritual or natural. But why are the hands
used so much in the Scriptures?
[Romans 1:20] says: That the things of the Spirit are both known and understood by the things that
are seen."[1 Corinthians 4:18]
When you baptize in water hands must be used to put the person in the water and bring them up
again.

Yes, kanang line of succession usa na sa mga dakung kalainan.

yup. yup.

Some protestants think that we worship His Holiness, the Pope. Dili na tinuud. Dili tinuud!

I have to correct my friends when they have that presumption.

The pope bears the keys that were given to Peter. Peter's Chair.
And the Royal Priesthood ---all cardinals and bishops are priests, btw.
And the Pope is just a high priest in the Earth, a mortal man.

But the tradition of 'LAYING OF THE HANDS' has been a tradition that has been practiced since the beginning of the Holy Roman Catholic Church since Pentecost! AMEN!

When priests are ordained in the MINISTRY OF CHRIST, AMEN, HALLELUJAH, AMEN!!!,
They are given the laying of the hands by the Bishops or the Cardinals.
Who themselves were done so when they were priests. Same so forth.
And it continues, the preaching of the WORD OF GOD, unchanged since Pentecost.
AMEN!

hehehehe

AMEN!
#36961
For me, though I can feel the Spirit of God in many of the other Christian Protestant Churches, for God is always there when there is a congregation of believers that call on His Name and Glorify Him. Amen!

I can feel HIS presence when i was in a pentecostal testimonial, AMEN! I felt the spirit!
I felt HIS spirit when I attended an Orthodox Prayer, AMEN!

But for me, i feel completely at HOME, at total peace and feel the embrace of My Savior God, Jesus Crist when I attend a Catholic Mass.

Can you imagine, when I went abroad to Ukraine to study at the Kiev Mohyla Academy of Law and Medical Science for an exchange semester in May 2006, i could not find a Catholic Church when i was there in the first week. I had to go to an Orthodox church, at least na comforted pood ko because they offered the Body and Blood of Christ (following Catholic Apostolic Tradition). But my friend Jeff and I (we were roomates, and both of us are Catholics), we found out that there was indeed a Ukrainian Catholic Church in downtonw Kievan Oblast near the Kiyask. So on sundays we would take the Metro to the Catholic Church there, hehehe.

Even tho it was spoken in Ukrainian, you could still follow the 'Our Father', and the songs that were sung, tho were in Ukrainian, still were the same. Songs like "Here I am Lord, One Bread One Body, Blest Are They etc". hehehe

Personal testimony lang.
#36962
The main difference is based on Scriptural mandates. Catholics are encouraged to read the bible daily, to read in their own accord. When we go to mass, we see and read scripture all the time. The First Readings, The Second Readings, all are taken from Gospel texts depending on the liturgical year. If it is Pentecost, the readings will be based on pentecostal message, if it is Easter time, then the liturgy of the Word would focus on scriptural verse for that part of the liturgical year. hehehe.

Main difference to Catholic and other christian protestant denominations is based on scriptural reference. I have attended other christian churches, because i was interested in what they taught, and also because manyof my friends are protestant christians. Ive been to Pentecostal churches (and i did like the experience), methodist, anglican (very much like catholics) and Orthodox Christian Churches (Ukrainian or Greek Orthodox).

The more conservative churches such as Greek Orthodox or Anglican Churches and even Methodist Churches as well as Presbyterian Churches follow in line with thte Christian Tradition that is strictly followed by the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

In fact, many of the christian protestant churches do follow on Catholic Scriptural Tradition, but putting more emphasis on personal interpretation, not more on Church Interpretation. That is where we differ. Naturally.

The Catholic Church has been the same Church, taught the same, professed the Same Word through the ages. 2 Thousand Years it has not changed in its manner of teaching Scripture, the Word, and the Body and Blood of Christ.

Main difference: One has been in existance for 2000 years, and follows strict Apostolic Scriptural Tradition. Unbroken line of succession and ministry (The Catholic Church), the others are new churches.

Similarity is The use of the Holy Bible (Holy Scripture).

And who wrote and compiled the Holy Scripture (Holy Bible)?
Answer: The Holy Roman Catholic Church.
GI modify ra sa mga protestant churches, taking out some verses and books.

All in all, the message is there. It is up to the Brother and Sister in Christ to take in the message. God Bless,

Oh wow, how splendid! Thanks for this big juice of information, Koddi, never knew that before. Interesting kaayo because there are words in Bisaya diay that when used alone, have a different meaning, but when used directly with another word--have a totally different meaning.

This is a great article, Manang Tess. Thanks for sharing this.

And thank you states for sharing your point of view. As an Oncology RN, I am sure have seen alot of the clinical spects of the Oncology Floor.

I was drawn to your definition of cancer.
I agree with this.

Since most cancers, begin with a benign growth, via the genesis of neoplasm. And an aspect of neoplasm is drawing energy and nutrients from the body to feed the tumoric growth this is known as : Angiogenesis "the development of blood vessels". Blood vessels that have no point or do not aid in the body in the positive light, since its main purpose is to feed the benign tumor.

Once large enough, the tumor will dislodge from its base in the endothelial lining and traverse to the venous return of the recently formed vein via angiogenesis that produced it. Once it enters the venous blood flow, and towards the lympathics---the benign tumor is then Metasticized.

Cancer then spreads-->

Great definition, btw, States!

I really liked that.

The development of the definition of Doncella meaning 'virgin' came after the fact. Spanish, is derived directly from Latin. And the ultimate meanin of Doncella is based on Domnicella. Which if we litereally translate, means "little lordess"  or "young lady of the court"

DOMINUS = LORD
DOMINA = Feminine form of LORD
Domnicella = dimunitive form of the feminine form of Lord

The latin word for virgin is Virgo, and its literal definition is: maiden, virgin, young girl.
The spanish word for Virgin is = virgen (pronounced birhen)

Used in the descriptive : La Virgen Santa Maria, Madre de Jesu Cristo El Salvador de Todos.
(The Virgin Mary, Mother of our Savior, Jesus Christ).

#36971
Domnicella (latin form)  and Doncella (Spanish Form)

;)
#36972
The latin word domnicella is the dimunitive form of the Latin Word "Domina)=  Lady (Senora)

since, the Latin word "Dominus" is the latin equivalent for Senor (Sir, Lord)

Hence, Domnicella

Hence the term we have "ANO DOMINI" (year of our lord)
In this case the feminine form of DOMINUS = DOMINA

And the dimunitive form for DOMINA = Domnicella

Meaning, a little girl of the court, court girl, of nobility.

Everyting is based on Latin.

Cheers!
#36973
la palabra doncella viene de latin domnicilla, que es un diminutivo de domina, 'senora, duena'. El termino dominus 'senor' viene del griego domos, palacio, templo, tienda, camara, y en general, edificasion...."

The word doncella "maid" is the dimunitive form of lady....

Bible Study / Beauty In Various Trials
July 11, 2009, 04:58:07 AM
Jame 1:2-10

2Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4 And let endurance have [its] perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,
8 [being] a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
9 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position;
10 and the rich man [is to glory] in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.

Inspiration & Hope / The Choice
July 11, 2009, 04:53:45 AM
a poem written by a Filipino

Powerful!

It's quiet. It's early. My coffee is hot. The sky is still dark. The
world is asleep. The day is coming.

In a few moments, the day will arrive. It will roar down the track
with the rising of the sun. The stillness of the dawn will be exchanged for the noise of the day. The calm of solitude will be replaced by the pounding pace of the human race. The refuge of the early morning will be invaded by decisions to be made and deadlines to be met.

For the next twelve hours, I will be exposed to the day's demands. It is now that I must make a choice. I'm free to choose. And so I choose.

I CHOOSE LOVE.

No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. I
choose love. Today I will love God and what God loves.

I CHOOSE JOY.

I will invite God to the God of circumstance. I will refuse the
temptation to be cynical ... the tool of the lazy thinker. I will
refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God. I will refuse to see any problem less than an opportunity to see God.

I CHOOSE PEACE.

I will live forgiven. I will forgive so that I may live.

I CHOOSE PATIENCE.

I will overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing
the one who takes my place, I'll invite him to do so. Rather than complain that the wait is too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray. Instead of clinching my fist at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage.

I CHOOSE KINDNESS.

I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for
they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such how God has treated me.

I CHOOSE GOODNESS.

I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one. I will be
overlooked before I will boast. I will confess before I will accuse. I
choose goodness.

I CHOOSE FAITHFULNESS.

Today I will keep my promises. My debtors will not regret their trust. My associates will not question my word. My wife(husband) will not question my love. And my children will never fear that their father (mother) will not come home.

I CHOOSE GENTLENESS.

Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice,
may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in
prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.

I CHOOSE SELF-CONTROL.

I am a spiritual being. After this body is dead, my spirit will soar.
I refuse to let what will not rule the eternal. I choose self-control. I
will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by my faith. I
will be influenced. I will be taught only by Christ. I choose self-control.

LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL.

To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace. And then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest.

28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you."

In regards to treating schizo patients, or patients with psychotic disorders, it is best to provide them with any anti-dopaminergic agonists/dopamine antagonists. Lithium salts would do well, but do watch out for extrapyramidal side effects.

I'll provide more about this in a video that will combine anti-psychotics/neuroleptic drug treatment.

Thanks for all the views, and the comments on my page. to those who messaged me on questions, I will provide more vids. I promise. :)

I am placed in a predicament.

The girl that I have secretly crushed over for the past several months has asked me to a date. Plano ko to take her to the Cultural Show to be held tomorrow from 5-8pm. Date date ra.

Now the difficult part is trying to control the feelings, hehehe.

Control the urges to unleash the romantic urges, that would ambivilate our friendship.
I would rather sacrifice any possibility of a relationship (romantic) with this woman in order to preserve the friendship. Oh such feelings, why do I have this crush for her? lfe, life, life. hehehe.

I can hear the words of my father ringing in my ears, "Studies first. Unya ra nang nobia-nobia".

Let's build an encyclopaedia of Bisaya/Cebuano words that cannot be translated into English.

tinigib = refers to a variety of corn
lawog-baboy = refers to the maturity stage of a coconut shell

Ive never heard of this term before: Tinigib.
So if mo palit ko ug maiz unya ill start to refer to it as Tinigib. hahaha~

As for Lawog-baboy. It means maturity stage of a coconut shell diay?
Ka ingoon ko ang meaning sa baboy = pig?

Like when we used the term, "Hoy, Panchito, unsa man gi luto nimo diha, 'doy?"
Mo answer pood si Panchito sa iyang kumpadre, "Ah, adobong baboy!" (referring to Pork adobo).

hahaha. So baboy has different meanings na diay? Pig/pork, and coconut?

sige, thanks!

"Tuba" (same pronunciation as the coco wine) also means "to harvest", BUT specifically for banana. "Nagtuba ko'g saging."  We have quite a lot of words that are equivalent to the word "harvest" or "pick". They are specific only to certain crops.

Examples:

Kutlo - kamunggay, batong, salingsing/buwak sa kalabasa, etc.
Pupu - prutas
Dughit - prutas (using a pole with or without a pouch)
Saka - lubi
Kubkub - kamote
Panglin - ubi
Ibot - sibuyas
Ani - humay
Sanggi - mais

Thank you so much for this in depth explanation, Koddi.
I've learned much just reading from your posts and the exchanges here.
Informative, and polite. hehe.

We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. â€"Ephesians 2:10

The Grand Rapids Art Museum has over 5,000 works of art, including 3,500 prints, drawings, and photographs; 1,000 works of design; and 700 paintings and sculptures. As I read about the new museum and anticipated visiting, I couldn’t help but think about God’s “museum.”

God is an artist, and His creation is unspeakably magnificent. But it is not His greatest work! God’s greatest work is His redemption of us. When we were still dead in our sins, He made us alive in His Son, Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:1,5). Paul reminded the Ephesians that they were God’s “workmanship,” or poiema (v.10), a Greek term that means “poem” or “work of art.” God’s art museum is the church, filled with millions of marvelous worksâ€"His people.

Being God’s work of art, Paul said, should result in something from us. We are not supposed to sit silently in the museum of fellowship. Rather, we are to show God’s love in practical ways through our good works. Jesus said these good works glorify our heavenly Father (Matt. 5:16).

God did not re-create us in His Son to be museum pieces. He redeemed us so that our good works would showcase the brilliant colors of His redemption and grace, and draw a world in darkness to the light of His love.  â€" Marvin Williams

Sing, O sing of my Redeemer,
With His blood He purchased me;
On the cross He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt and made me free. â€"Bliss

1 O LORD, you have searched me
       and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths,  you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
       your works are wonderful,
       I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
       were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
       When I awake,
       I am still with you.

Psalm 139

Amen.
Glory to God In The Highest!
Our Light, Our Strength, Our Justification.
Our Salvation.

That is why when one studies Chavacano, a Hispanized Filipino Dialect, and compares that language and some of its words to modern simplified Spanish that is used in presetn day Spain, one will see and observe differences in wordings. Different words are used. Same applies to the Creole Dialect in Mexico.

The reason for this is because the Spanish used in Spain (simplified Castillian) no longer uses old terminology as seen in Old Castillian. There no longer is great emphasis on salutation, or the use of the proverbial status differentiation. The word Senores, Senor, is generalized now in modern Spanish. In the times of the Conquistadores, during the height of Pax Hispanica, that word and title was reserved for land-owning Spanish men, namely, reputable men. Or if one was of noble class it would be common to address that individual as "Don Senor" , which is equivalent to 'Lord Sir'.

If you read Middle English or Victorian style English, it illustrates the same kind of formality. hehehe. Properness.

Like I said before in previous posts in this thread, there are some words that are of Spanish Origin that is used in the Philippines that have evolved a totally different meaning from the original. The reasons could range from 1) Definition and term just changed over the years or 2) the local people just made up a new meaning for that word when applied to the local tongue.

And from the examples I gave, the latter was the case even in Viceroyalidad de Nueva Espana (Mexico), which was a Royal Spanish Power base back 2-3 centuries. If Mexico, a bastion of Spanish architecture, language, and arts, will deveop its own meaning of a word that is totally different from that of Espana Madre, then of course, by right, one isn't surprised if the same manifestation occurs in say the Philippines, which was an overseas province of Viceroyalidad de Nueva Espana from the 16th century till the early 19th century, when Nueva Espana (Mexico) severed its umbilical cord with Spain, thereby earning independence.

Food for thought. hehehehe ;)

#36992
When one refers to a Spanish word, one has to be ready to understand and accept the fact that there will be different meanings for a word, in relation to the English transliteration.

The meaning of a word in Spain, may have a totally different meaning in say in Mexico, or Argetinina etc.

Let me give you guys an example of the multifaceted nature of the Spanish language:

English Form: Popcorn
Cuba: rositas de maíz
Argentina: pochoclo
Venezuela: cotufa
Spain: palomitas, palomitas de maíz

another,

English Form: Recreational Vehicle
Bolivia: vagoneta
Chile: casa rodante
Mexico: camper
Puerto Rico: RV
Spain: caravana
Venezuela: vehículo recreacional

another,

English Form: Sidewalk
Mexico: banqueta, acera
In many countries: "acera"
Comment::::  In Spain: "banqueta" is a bench; so as you see in Mexico the word Banqueto is used to refer to 'sidewalk' whereas in MOTHER SPAIN, the wod 'Banqueta' means Bench. hehehehehe

another pa,

English Form: Eye-glasses
Colombia: gafas, lentes
Cuba, Puerto Rico: espejuelos
Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, México, Venezuela: lentes
Spain: gafas

The word "Anteojos" is an old word for eyeglasses. Old fashion type of word that no longer is used in Spain or Mexico.

Philippines uses the word "Anteojos" because the Spanish in the Philippines is based on Old Castillian. hehehehe. The language of the conquistadores (from the 17-18th centuries)

Cheers!

Thanks for redirecting the thread back to its original direction, Mr. Benne, hehehe.

The word Doncella literally means a virgin, maiden, honored girl.

When we study the etymology of the word itself it has the honorific prefix of 'Don' meaning and regarding honor, 'an individual of the court'. and the Suffix of 'cella' is based on the Spanish word for 'Her/ girl' which is "Ella" or in the plural form "Ellos" (in the masculine) or "Ellas" (in the feminine)

Combine the two together: Don ella = Doncella.
And honored girl, a woman or lady with honor.
Honor in those days, in the time epochs prior to modernization refers to Nobility.
A noble woman can be either: 1) a virgin, 2) a lady of the court 3) of royal blood.

That is what I'm trying to get across. The meaning has changed as the epochs modernized. What was once used to refer to a woman of nobility, to be honored, has now taken up a meaning of virgin, pretty, beautiful.

Of course, and so are you! We are all foolish in the eyes of God.

Better yet, since I am a fool (as you are referring to me), then I trust in this verse:

1 Corinthians 1:27
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

1 Corinthians 1:25
For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

In that case, Id rather be the foolishness of God. hehehe.
