SAN JOSE, Antique, March 5 (PNA) - Police operatives in Antique province nabbed recently a barangay tanod suspected to be drug pusher in buy bust operation in Brgy. Jalandoni, Culasi town.

The suspect, identified as Edward N. Clataro, 38, was collared at his residence, also in the said barangay, after a poseur-buyer was able to buy one sachet of suspected shabu.

The joint operation was conducted by the Antique Police Provincial Office Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Group (PAIDSOG), Culasi Police Station, Provincial Public Safety Company and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 6.

The operating team also recovered another eight sachets of suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride worth P1,000 each, marked money, improvised water pipe tooter, and one empty pack plastic sachet from the suspect.

According to PAIDSOG, Clataro is a long-time drug personality operating in the northern towns of Antique.

Senior Supt. Ruperto T. Floro Jr., police director of Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO), said the arrest of Clataro will mean reduction of supply and drug use in the town.

"The 'Pulis Nyo Po' in Antique will continually intensify its operations against proliferation of illegal drugs,” Floro said.

He added, “For those who still engage in illegal drug trade and use, stop and change your lifestyle, if not, the Pulis Nyo Po in Antique will not stop running after you and put an end to the drug menace.”

In 1916, Keds created the original sneaker-or as they like to say, the first ever "feel-like everyday's-a-Saturday" shoe. But that was a bit of a mouthful... so instead they called it the Champion. With silent rubber soles (superb for sneaking up!), and a featherweight feel, the Champion more than lived up to its playfully confident name. On legends and icons, it danced through the decades to become a true-blue American go-to.

Nearly 200 lawmakers signed a resolution urging the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to acquire a bulletproof and bombproof vehicle for President Aquino to replace the damaged and accident-prone car seldom used by Malacañang.

The signatories to House Resolution 2191, led by An Waray party-list Rep. Florencio Noel, Western Samar Rep. Mel Senen Sarmiento, Laguna Rep. Danilo Fernandez, and Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone, said Aquino was forced to use his personal car because of the lack of a presidential vehicle in his various visits all over the country.

The resolution cited the urgency for the government “to acquire a new state car equipped with the latest security features, so the PSG (Presidential Security Group) can better protect the President in the face of stepped-up attacks by international terrorists who use improvised explosive device (IED) bombs to assassinate their targeted dignitaries.”

The lawmakers said the DBM could realign funds from government savings for this long-needed acquisition of a state car for the President, which will also be used by visiting heads of state.

She isn’t the type who would back down when challenged by a fellow politician or by a fellow lawyer. Neither would she when confronted by a man of the cloth.

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago came out firing on Sunday against a Roman Catholic priest who criticized her for repeatedly scolding prosecutors over their supposed incompetence in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Santiago took exception to a remark by Fr. Catalino Arevalo in his homily suggesting she could be “worthy of the fires of hell,” particularly for referring to the prosecution team as gago (fool) during a trial session last week.

“The Constitution provides for a wall of separation between Church and State. A priest cannot violate the law in the guise of criticizing a senator-judge with the ulterior motive of promoting his own political agenda,” Santiago said in a statement.

Arevalo, a Jesuit in his 80s who is close to the family of President Aquino, quoted Matthew 5:20 in taking a swipe at the mercurial senator: “But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment. And if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council. And if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the fires of hell.”

“I can engage in a public debate with the priest and we can exchange quotation for quotation from the Bible,” said Santiago, who holds a master’s degree at Maryhill School of Theology.

It was reported in philboxing.com site that Michael Aldeguer, CEO of Ala Promotions, would refund tickets purchased for the March 3 fight of Rey "Boom-boom" Bautista (33 fights, 2 defeats) and Genaro Garcia (10 wins, 11 losses) of Mexico.

The Pinoy Pride 12, to be aired over ABS-CBN on March 4, 2012 (Sunday), has become a laughingstock among boxing fans in Bohol.

Thousands of Boholanos made a mass exodus from the Carlos P Garcia Complex long before their very own Boom-boom Bautista could throw his first punch. Deafening boos and expressions of disgusts filled the air as soon as the bell rang in the first round.

Bautista was fighting a fake Garcia whom people consider a beer drinker because of his protruding belly, reports said.

The boxing scam was not Bautista's fault, but the Boholano people deserve an explanation.

A recent study published last January 2012 in the International Journal of Epidemiology shows that both men and women have more sexual satisfaction when the male is uncircumcised.

All over the world, only 30 percent of the male population is circumcised.  In the Philippines, the numbers are very differentâ€"93 percent of Filipino men have gone under the knife.

In fact, the practice of circumcision in the Philippines dates back to the pre-Hispanic era. The Islamic culture of our datus prescribed circumcision as a rule. The ritual was observed in the southern islands of the Philippines all the way up to the north where, curiously, more Christians carried on with the same custom.

MANILA, March 2 (PNA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vehemently denied reports that there are ouster plots against President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III.

In the same vein, AFP through its spokesperson Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr., said that the military was solid behind Aquino.

"As far as the AFP is concerned, we have not monitored any report of an ouster plot. The AFP is solidly behind the President and Commander-in Chief. As a professional organization, we are focused on fulfillment of mandate to protect people and sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country," he said.

Burgos also said that the AFP would continue to monitor and validate information regarding the ouster plots versus Aquino.

"We will continue to intensify collecting information (regarding the matter)," the AFP spokesperson said.

He also assured the public that the AFP was not behind this rumor.

"As far as the AFP is concerned the ouster plot is not brewing in the organization. Our chain of command remains strong and everyone adheres to chain of command," Burgos said.

Stratfor

Last week's Security Weekly discussed the fact that terrorism is a tactic used by many different classes of actors and that, while the perpetrators and tactics of terrorism may change in response to shifts in larger geopolitical cycles, these changes will never result in the end of terrorism. Since that analysis was written, there have been jihadist-related attacks in Afghanistan, Nigeria, Yemen and Pakistan, an assassination attempt against the president of Abkhazia, and a failed timed-incendiary attack against the Athens subway. (The latter incident, which militant anarchists claimed, reinforces that jihadists are not the only ones who practice terrorism.)

But while terrorism is a continuing concern, it can be understood, and measures can be taken to thwart terrorist plots and mitigate the effects of attacks. Perhaps the most important and fundamental point to understand about terrorism is that attacks do not appear out of nowhere. Individuals planning a terrorist attack follow a discernable cycle -- and that cycle and the behaviors associated with it can be observed if they are being looked for. We refer to these points where terrorism-related behavior can be most readily observed as vulnerabilities in the terrorist attack cycle.

Carolina C. Griño-Aquino - former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court; 1st placer, 1950 bar exams

In the past, non-law school graduates were allowed to take the bar. However, the Revised Rules of Court and Supreme Court Circulars allow only Philippine law graduates to take the bar, necessarily excluding non-law graduates and foreign law graduates from taking part in the exercise.

The State of the World: Explaining U.S. Strategy
By George Friedman

The fall of the Soviet Union ended the European epoch, the period in which European power dominated the world. It left the United States as the only global power , something for which it was culturally and institutionally unprepared. Since the end of World War II, the United States had defined its foreign policy in terms of its confrontation with the Soviet Union. Virtually everything it did around the world in some fashion related to this confrontation. The fall of the Soviet Union simultaneously freed the United States from a dangerous confrontation and eliminated the focus of its foreign policy.

In the course of a century, the United States had gone from marginal to world power. It had waged war or Cold War from 1917 until 1991, with roughly 20 years of peace between the two wars dominated by the Great Depression and numerous interventions in Latin America. Accordingly, the 20th century was a time of conflict and crisis for the United States. It entered the century without well-developed governmental institutions for managing its foreign policy. It built its foreign policy apparatus to deal with war and the threat of war; the sudden absence of an adversary inevitably left the United States off balance.
