Why is China claiming the control of the South China Sea?

A: Over 1/3 of the world's naval marine and shipping supplies pass through the South China Sea. Not to mention that the South China Sea contains billions of reserves of oil and natural gas.

The Chinese Regime is overconfident and ridiculous. How can they dare to claim over 1 million square miles of territory.

Impressive. This is based on the body of the former Soviet Supercarrier, The Varyag, the largest aircraft carrier to head the Soviet Navy.

What on earth would the Chinese vessels taunt and follow a US Naval Ship for? The Chinese are getting ever more daring. The South China Sea, so long as the Philippines remains a strategic ally of the United States, will continue being one of regional vicinities of the United States Pacific Command.

Good to see that the Americans , too, have its concerns in the South China Sea.

WASHINGTON â€"  Chinese Navy officers reacted with annoyance today when it emerged that the United States had sent a destroyer to back up a surveillance vessel in the South China Sea after it was harassed by People’s Liberation Army sailors.

The decision by President Obama to send an armed escort for U.S. surveillance ships in the area follows the aggressive and co-ordinated manoeuvres of five Chinese boats on Sunday. The vessels harassed and nearly collided with the unarmed USNS Impecccable.

One unidentified officer quoted in the China Daily newspaper said that the decision was disproportionate. While China’s Foreign Ministry has so far kept tight-lipped on the latest development, the decision to run such a comment so swiftly in the state-run English-language newspaper was a signal of Beijing’s concerns.

One naval source said the PLA had taken note of the latest U.S. move and was watching developments closely.

Another described the deployment of the USS Chung-Hoon, armed with torpedoes and missiles, as a signal of the Pentagon’s intention to “keep on pressing” China in the South China Sea.

He added: “The timing and the extent have gone beyond what you could call proportionate.”

MANILA (Update) â€" President Benigno Aquino III said he will discuss with the visiting Chinese defense minister how to prevent territorial spats in the South China Sea that can worsen into larger conflicts.

Aquino said Sunday he would raise the need for a binding accord aimed at preventing possible clashes at the disputed Spratly Islands and nearby waters in his upcoming meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.

Liang arrived Saturday for talks with his Philippine counterpart Voltaire Gazmin and to call on Aquino during his four-day visit.

China and the Philippines are among six Asian countries and territories that claim parts of the Spratlys and other South China Sea areas believed to be rich in oil and gas.

Asked if he will raise the territorial disputes in his meeting with Liang, Aquino said he would discuss how occasional spats can be avoided.

"The end point is hopefully these incidents could be reduced, otherwise a conflict might really happen," Aquino told reporters. "We should talk, instead of all these sorts of incidents occurring."

Over the weekend, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed that there was an intrusion in the country's airspace, but Malacañang could not confirm which country the fighter jets were coming from.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the government still has to verify where the two unidentified foreign fighter jets came from before taking an appropriate action.

"It was confirmed that there was an intrusion into the airspace but if we cannot identify which country these jets belong, we don't know where to complain," said Valte over a state-run radio.

The AFP in its report said the fighter jets flew over the vicinity of the Kalayaan Island Group, part of the disputed Spratlys.

The jets reportedly "buzzed" two Philippine Air Force OV-1 Broncos on a routine reconnaissance patrol Thursday last week in the Kalayaan Islands.

Earlier reports said the jets belong to China. But the Philippines refused to confirm this report.

Two Chinese patrol boats allegedly harassed a Philippine oil exploration ship into leaving a vast area called the Reed Bank on March 2, prompting a Filipino general to scramble two military aircraft, which arrived at the scene after the Chinese vessels had left, the Philippine military said.

The Philippines protested, saying the Reed Bank, which is near the Spratlys, lies within Philippine territorial waters. China countered by saying that the Spratlys and adjacent waters belong to it.

Valte meanwhile said the Chinese official's visit to the country has no relation to the intrusion issue since it was already scheduled even before the incident happened.

She also downplayed perception that China is trying to threaten the Philippines, saying she could not remember any incident of such.

In Guanglie's arrival speech, he emphasized that the purpose of his visit is to enhance mutual trust and cooperation between China and the Philippines amid rising tensions over the Spratlys Islands.

Aside from the Philippines and China, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan also take claim over the Spratlys.

Valte said Malacañang is also verifying reports of alleged shooting of two Vietnamese fishermen by the Philippine forces also in Spratlys earlier this month.

Vietnamese police said the families of the victims claimed that the attackers wore Philippine military uniforms.

"We are just verifying this report. We will announce it at the proper time," Valte said.

The 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which includes the Philippines and three other countries that claim the Spratlys, signed a nonbinding accord with China in 2002 that discourages aggressive behavior that could spark a shooting war.

The accord calls on claimants to carry out joint projects to promote harmony. The claimants, however, have failed to agree on the wording of the guidelines needed to pursue such projects.

Asean and the US have sought to turn the 2002 accord into a binding "code of conduct" for a stronger guarantee against aggression and possible armed clashes.

Aquino said he has long wanted to discuss with China how such a code could be forged. (AP/Jill Beltran/Sunnex)

Science and Research / Sympathy VS. Empathy
May 30, 2011, 11:49:35 AM
Empathy and sympathy  are sometimes confused. Sympathy is characterized by feeling sorry for people. This can make them feel pitiful, helpless, and hopeless. Empathy, on the other hand, gives people the message that their feelings can be understood and accepted, which is empowering rather than demeaning.

Tohnichi,

We all behave childish at times, and fall short in behaving childlike. That is fine because we all sin, we all falter from time to time, as no one is perfect besides God.

Things that we have to take into consideration are :

1. First, look beyond the manger and see Christ as the Savior of the World.

2. Secondly, to intentionally look for the Glory of God as you face this New Year, and

3. Third, to become a joyful teller to others of what Christ’s saving grace and glory have meant in your life

The Lord Jesus Christ loves us for who we are, loves us despite we are sinners. Because He loves us, we should show our love to Him and give Him the Honor and Affection, and rightly so. He loves us and cares for all of us who put our cares and worries on Him. Trusting in Jesus and Jesus Alone is the basis of a childlike faith.

Blessings and Peace!

Doubtless, people disagreed with Jesus. Especially the religious rulers. They already condemned Jesus as a glutton, and John as a demoniac. So Jesus tells the crowd to watch and wait. When He says wisdom is justified by all her children, He means that whether He is right or the Pharisees are right will be determined by the lives they live and kind of disciples they produce.

The Pharisees, we know, just made their disciples more a child of hell than they were. But Christ's disciples went out and turned the world upside down. Wisdom was justified, or proved right, by her children.

Look around at all the local churches throughout America. Look around at all the churches throughout history. Ask yourself, "Which churches have the strongest and most faithful disciples of Jesus Christ?" Don't ask, "Which churches have the most people show up on Sunday morning?" for if it was a crowd we wanted, there are things we can do to attract a crowd. I read of one church this week that wants to give away one car every week to people who attend their services. Last week, they gave away a yellow Hummer. They dont give away a car every week, but they said that they wish they could. Do you think that attracts a crowd? You bet it does. But I wonder how many of those who attend just go for the car? How many who attend that church are faithful and committed disciples of Jesus Christ?

Wisdom is proved right by her children.

Don't ask, "Which church has the most signs and wonders?" It does not matter what kind of signs and wonders go on in the service, or in the lives of the people. Jesus performed signs and wonders more than anybody else, but when He was asked to perform them, He said that only a wicked and adulterous generation seeks for signs (Matt. 12:39). Furthermore, when Jesus was with his disciples, He spent most of His time teaching them the Word. And they went out and turned the world upside down.

Wisdom is proved right by her children.

I don't care if a church is huge or a church is small, you measure success and effectiveness in one way only. You ask, "Are the people becoming faithful and committed disciples of Jesus Christ? Are they loving Him more? Are they learning about Him more? Are they eager to get into His Word more? Are they serving Him more? Are they witnessing more? Are they exited to come to church and be taught God's Word? Are they excited to teach what they have learned to others?" All of these things are marks of the healthy disciple.

And I will tell you that throughout America and throughout the world and throughout history, the churches where most disciples like this can be found are those that give people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. The churches where most disciples like this can be found are churches that preach and teach the Word of God unapologetically, systematically, week in and week out, in good times and in bad times, when it is popular and when it is not.

You study the book of Acts and discover that they were being daily taught the Word of God in the temple and from house to house. When Paul planted churches, He would teach night and day for weeks and months on end in the synagogues and in the homes where people would gather. In the first 300 years of the church, as the Gospel spread rapidly around the globe, it was customary and normal for churches services to be held almost every night of the week, and the main thing they did in these church services was teach the Word of God book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

Following this, the church went into decline for a while, but regained prominence when men like Martin Luther and John Calvin decided to put the preaching and teaching of the Word of God back as the central activity of the church. Disciples were made, and the world was changed.

Things went into decline for a while again, but then men like George Whitefield, John Wesley and Jonathan Edwards began to preach and teach the Word of God again, and the Great Awakening occurred in Great Britain and the United States. Following this came men like Spurgeon who lit the world on fire with Biblical exposition.

In our day also, there is an awakening beginning to happen as some churches and pastors realize that the sole source of authority for all that they say and do is the Word of God; not popular opinion and community surveys. When churches preach and teach the Word of God, Christians grow up into maturity, eave behind childish ways, and begin to go out and witness to others.

Where Christians are allowed to remain in their childish ways, disciples are not being made. But where the Word of God is used for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, the people of God become thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Wisdom is proved right by her children.

Do you have childlike faith? If so, good. But move on from there. Leave behind childish ways and childish demands. If you're going to demand something, demand what God says you should demand. 1 Peter 2:2 says that as infants, as babes in Christ, you must crave the pure milk of the Word. The word crave means to desire, to demand, to long after. It is not wrong to be like a child. We all start there, and we are all still there to one degree or another. But we move on from there by demanding the Word of God. By it you will grow up in your salvation.

Bible Study / Be Childlike, Not Childish

What is the difference between being childlike and childish?

In Luke 18:17, Jesus says that anyone who does not receive the kingdom like a little child shall not enter into it. Childlike faith provides entrance into the kingdom. And yet many Christians confuse having faith like a child with actually behaving like a child. There are many who may or may not have childlike faith, but who behave in childish ways. Jesus wants us to be childlike, not childish.

Childlike faith trusts. Childlike faith knows no bounds. Childlike faith listens to what is said, and believes it. My daughter Taylor loves to paint and color. Almost every night when I get home from work, one of the first things she says is, "Daddy, will you color with me?" Those of you who have been in our house in recent months have seen the art gallery in our kitchen of all of her work.

A few weeks ago, as we were sitting down for dinner, Taylor noticed a beautiful sunset out of the western window. Wendy told her that Jesus had painted the sky. She thought about that for a moment, and then said, "Mommy, can I paint the sky with Jesus?"

That's childlike faith. Taylor knows that we love her and only have her best interests at heart. We have told her that Jesus loves her too. Taylor also knows that she loves to color. And so, when she sees something that Jesus has colored, she believes that since He loves her, He wants to color with her just like Mommy and Daddy color with her. And I don't know how it all works, but we told her that probably, when she gets to heaven, Jesus will let her paint the sky.

Of course, in order to do that, she realized that she needed wings. So she asked if Jesus would give her wings. I told her that Jesus would probably give her wings so she could fly like a bird into the sky to paint it. Taylor looked at me very seriously and said, "No, Daddy. Not like a bird. Like a Taylor."

Childlike faith. It believes the most amazing things. Taylor believes she will paint the sky, and that to get there, she doesn't need to be like a bird, she can go just as she is, with the minor addition of wings. Childlike faith is simple. It is pure. It is honest. It simply believes. It is beautiful.

Childishness, on the other hand, is not beautiful. What is childishness? Childishness is childlike behavior gone sour. Childishness is a refusal to grow up. Childishness is when a person of any age acts younger than they are. While it is natural for children to act like children, it is expected that they will grow up and stop acting like children. When they do not, they are being childish. Childishness is when people who should know better throw temper tantrums and pout when they don't get their way. Childishness is when people are irresponsible and behave as if the world revolves around them. Childishness is when people make petty demands and selfish complaints.

Children are born with the natural tendency to disobey, to throw temper tantrums, to cry when they don't get their way, to scream at the top of their voice when they get a little bit hungry, and to fuss when they get tired. It is a parent's responsibility to train and discipline these things out of child. If a boy turns eight, and consistently throws temper tantrums in order to get his way, he is acting childish. If a girl turns fifteen, and still pouts and cries when asked to vacuum the living room, she is acting childish. These sinful tendencies must be trained and disciplined out of a child. Children must grow up.

Acting like a child is okay and expected when we are children. But as we grow up and mature, as we are trained and disciplined, we should leave childish ways behind. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:11, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things." When you are a child, it is okay to act like one. But as you grow up, you should put away childish behavior.

In culture and society, we have a pretty normal method for accomplishing this. Hopefully, as children age, they are trained and disciplined and taught about life. They are given good work habits, taught good study skills, and learn appropriate social behavior. This is maybe not as common as some would like, but this is the goal. Most parents want their children to grow up, mature, move out and become successful.

But when it comes to spiritual children in the church, we have become experts at fostering and encouraging perpetual immaturity. Many churches do everything they can to stunt growth. We allow spiritual babes to remain spiritual babes - forever.

They cry for candy; we give them candy, rather than the milk and meat of the Word that they need to grow. They throw temper tantrums, and we give in to their desires. They threaten to run away from home, and so we buy them the toys they want. We play the little games. We feed the felt needs. We cater to the selfish desires.

I am reading a book called The Transformation of American Religion by Alan Wolfe. It is an amazing critique of modern churches and how they are no longer standing up for the truth, but instead cater to the demands and desires of people. He says several times that the American church is becoming just another self-help organization, where it gives people what they want to hear, rather than what they need to hear. This is exactly what Paul says will happen to churches that do not remain true to Biblical truth, and Alan Wolfe has documented it.

The most amazing thing about the book however, is that Alan Wolfe is not a Christian. He's not religious at all. Yet here he is, a non-Christian sociologist, surveying the American religious landscape, and arriving at the conclusion that the church has lost its power and influence because it now caters to the demands and desires of the people, rather than holding fast to Biblical truth.

He even says that if the church is going to survive, it must return to the one thing it has which nobody else does - Biblical truth. This is what a non-Christian says. But really, who cares what he says? He could say just the opposite - as many do - and we would still say, "Who cares?" What matters most is what God says in His Word. And God says that a church must dedicate itself, a pastor must devote himself to the teaching and preaching of the Word of God so that the Christians in that church can grow up into maturity (Eph. 4:11-16; 2 Tim. 2; Heb. 6; 2 Pet. 2). God's goal is that Christians will leave childish ways behind, and grow up into maturity by the faithful preaching and teaching of the Word of God.

But this is not happening in most American churches. And so we find ourselves in a situation similar to what we read about in Hebrews 5. The Christians whom the letter is addressed to had been saved for quite some time. The author says that by this time, they ought to be teaching others, but they are still babes. They still need milk, not solid food. He tells them in Hebrews 6 to leave childish thinking and childish ways behind and move on to maturity. Paul speaks similarly to the Christians of Corinth in 1 Corinthians 3.

So while childlike faith is commendable, childish Christianity is not. So we must root childish ways out of our life. But before we can root these ways out of our life, we need to know what they look like. Toward this end, in Luke 7:31-35, Jesus provides two defining characteristics of childish Christianity. He is speaking to the people of His own day, before the church has come into existence, but the principles He provides are universal. Christ explains how some of the people in His day are childish, and we must take care that His indictment of them is not true of us either. Jesus introduces this idea in verses 31-32.

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead -- since he was about a hundred years old -- and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Feelings can be overt or covert or a combination of the two. Overt feelings are evident to other people through either words or nonverbal clues. For example, a person can express anger by saying, "you make me really mad when you do that, " or by scowling, shouting, or making an obscene gesture.

Covert feelings are concealed. Sometimes when we attend a social event or go into a situation such as a dissertation defense where we believe others will judge us, we experience anxiety, and tension. However, we often hide those feelings so we can make a positive impression. Fear of rejection and disapproval, shame about our feelings, and lack of awareness of our emotions may lead s to conceal or even deny our feelings.

Feelings may be both overt and covert-- for example, when we share only a part of our feelings. Before a final examination begins, nearly everyone feels apprehension and anxiety. However, some students conceal the enormity of their feelings so that they do not seem more fearful than most of the others.
#21237
Feelings take many forms. They can be experienced primarily as emotions, as physical sensations, or, most often, as a combination of the two. Examples of primary emotions include sadness, anger, joy, shame, and discouragement. Examples of physical sensations include queasiness, headaches, muscle tensions, and chills. Physical and emotional feelings often go together. For example, when we feel sad, we sometimes lose our appetite, feel tired and heavy, and have no sexual desires. When we feel happy, we may feel buoyant, relaxed and alert.

Additionally,

It is surmised by anthropologists that the earliest Filipinos came form present day Sabah. There is a tribal group in Sabah that call themselves, 'BISAYA', and their language has similar words and phrases to the Visayan dialects in the Philippines.

Sabah is not only a territorial property of the Philippines, but a historical link to our earliest ancestors. For it is considered that the earliest Filipinos came from Sabah/ North Borneo.

Sir Way Nada,

Yes you are right that Filipinos, Malaysians, Indonesians, and Bruneians are of the Malay ethnic group. We are probably the largest ethnic group in Asia, second only to the Han Chinese. If combined, the total malay people in the world would be about 370-380 million (if we added the population of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Brunei together).

My point is that the people of Sarawak and Sabah had no cultural or political ties with Kuala Lumpur before the creation of the state of Malaya. In fact, Singapore was part of Malaysia , only to separate itself from it after a plebiscite was conducted to secede from the Federation of Malaysia.

Sabah's unfortuante inclusion of the British invention of 'Malaya' was because of the failure of the Americans and the Philippine Commonwealth Government to champion the cause of Sabah's return from British temporary control. In 1878, Baron Von Overbeck, an Austrian partner representing The British North Borneo Company and his British partner Alfred Dent, leased the territory of Sabah. In return, the company was to provide arms to the Sultan to resist the Spaniards and 5,000 Malayan dollars annual rental based on the Mexican dollar's value at that time or its equivalent in gold. This lease was continued until the independence and formation of the Malaysian federation in 1963 together with Singapore, Sarawak and the states of Malaya. As of 2004, the Malaysian Embassy to the Philippines had been paying cession/rental money amounting to US$1,500 per year (about 6,300 Malaysian Ringgits) to the heirs of the Sultanate of Sulu.

As for Ninoy Aquino's involvement, I am not so sure. I would have to do some more reading and research before I say anything about him in the case.

As far as I know, it would have been opportune for the Philippines to have taken Sarawak and Sabah early in our independence. The loss of Sabah to the Malaysians is a catastrophe for our country since Sabah is rich in natural resource. It is rich in natural gas, gold, petroleum, diamonds, lumber, fertile land etc.

Ray, your ig agaw worked for the DILG in Cebu diay? This past summer , I went to the DILG building in downtown Cebu, where I was introduced to the Regional Director of DILG Region 7. He is a good friend of my aunt. Mommy Wella is my aunt; my father's younger sister. Attorney ni sija, Ray, but works in provincial government and is active in local government growth and implementation.

She was the one that was head of Mandaue City's commercial growth and initiatives. The Regional Director of DILG Region 7 did not want her to leave Cebu because of her strengths in the city and the province of Cebu.

But upon request of Gov. Chatto and Vice Gov. Conching Lim, she was considered for this position. I believe that her assets in regional growth and provincial government initiatives will help in the curbing of lawlessness in Bohol as well as strengthen the municipal level.

Gi post sa ahong igsoon baji sa fb, "its good to see women taking the helm and taking high government positions in the philippines; positions that would normally be held by men!" hehe.

The British sent the Gurkha's to train the Malaysian military when in 1968 a young senator by the name of Ninoy Aquino betrayed the Filipino people by divulging sensitive information involving Muslim recruits trained by the military to infiltrate North Borneo. Ninoy Aquino in a privilege speech accused his own government of conpiracy to wreck havoc on Sabah. The British sent special forces to Sabah and trained the Malaysians in counter insurgency warfare... and even sent a flotilla of warship in the sea of Palawan to confront any Filipino infiltrator.

What was ironic of Ninoy's expose was that there was no "massacre" of muslim recruits in Corregidor.

WN

I doubt the British would have engaged the Philippines in such a case, Sir Way Nada, considering that the United States and the Philippines are bilateral major Non-Nato Strategic allies. And considering the United States had a military presence in Olangapo , Subic Bay , Clark and other minor stations.

The state of Malaysia is an invention. Such a state never existed in history. Not to mention how Peninsular Malaysia is linguistically different from eastern Malaysia. The state of Sabah, which is located in the northeastern region of eastern Malaysia, is lingustically and culturally closer to the Philippines than the peninsular Malaysians.

The people of Sabah are ethnically and linguistically identitical to that of the people from Jolo.

In fact, Sabah was part of the Sulu Sultanate for hundreds of years. The Sultan of Sulu and Sultan of Brunei were both blood brothers and in many battles , it was the Sultan of Sulu who used to rescue the Sultan of Brunei's forces.

The languages spoken in Sabah and Sarawak is closer to BINISAYA than it is to the foreign dialect of Bahasa Malay spoken in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

The Malaysians have the Gurkhas to thank as these special forces troops were deployed by the British Army as well as by the newly formed Malaysian Armed Forces during the brief Konfrontasi War. The Gurkhas were brutally effective against Sukarno's Indonesian Paramilitary Troops. Brunei employs thousands of them to this day.

In regards to state of the Philippine Air Force, there is no excuse for its condition. It is simple governmental failure to upgrade the military effectively. How is it that Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia have air supremacy fighters whilst the Philippines does not?

Camping, as a pastor, should have known better to do this. I do hope that he returns the donations made by the many people during the week previous.

Doomsday prophet, followers ‘flabbergasted’ world didn’t end
By Liz Goodwin – Mon May 23, 11:25 am ET

It's hard to feel bad for someone whose doomsday predictions caused so much anxiety, but 89-year-old Harold Camping's recent admission that he's "flabbergasted" the world didn't end last weekend sounds somewhat pitiful.

"It has been a really tough weekend," Camping said Sunday, after emerging from his Alameda, California home for the first time to talk to a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'm looking for answers ... But now I have nothing else to say," he said, adding that he would make a full statement today.

Camping's PR aide, Tom Evans, told the L.A. Times that the group is "disappointed" that 200 million true believers weren't lifted up to heaven on Saturday while everyone else suffered and eventually died as a series of earthquakes and famine destroyed the Earth. "You can imagine we're pretty disappointed, but the word of God is still true," Evans said. "We obviously went too far, and that's something we need to learn from." The group posted 2,000 billboards around the country warning of the rapture, while Camping--an uncertified fundamentalist minister--spread the word on his radio show.

Camping's Family Radio, which airs on 66 U.S. stations, has apparently rebranded itself quickly. Business Insider notes that the station's website has scrubbed all mentions of the Judgment Day. The site previously featured a countdown clock to the May 21 rapture on its homepage.

But the false prediction might not be so easily effaced from the lives of Camping's followers. The L.A. Times writes that Keith Bauer, a 38-year-old tractor trailer driver, took a road trip with his family to see the Grand Canyon before the world ended.

"With maxed-out credit cards and a growing mountain of bills, he said, the rapture would have been a relief," the paper writes.

But Bauer is not angry at Camping for his false prediction. "Worst-case scenario for me, I got to see the country," he told the paper. "If I should be angry at anybody, it should be me."

Robert Fitzpatrick, who spent $140,000 of his life savings to advertise the rapture in New York, said he was dumbfounded when life went on as usual Saturday.

"I do not understand why ...," he told Reuters while awaiting the event in Times Square. "I do not understand why nothing has happened."

An NPR reporter talked to two Camping followers on Sunday. "One man, his voice quavering, said he was still holding out hope that they were one day off. Another believer asserted that their prayers worked: God delayed judgment so that more people could be saved, but the end is 'imminent,'" she reported.

Evans, Camping's PR aide, told NPR he hopes Family Radio will reimburse followers who spent their savings in anticipation of the rapture, but that he can't guarantee it.

Protesters gathered outside Camping's radio headquarters to mock the false prophecy over the weekend. Some of them set aloft a toy cow with balloons to lampoon the idea that a select elite would ascend to heaven. Meanwhile, other religious groups tried to recruit disappointed Camping followers. -- http://news.yahoo.com/

no man knows when Christ will come again. camping was foolish to even publicize this, i even heard that his organization received thousands of dollars from people's savings in fear of the rapture. tiguwang na kaajo sija, ambisyoso pood kaajo. hilas ra ning tawhana.

no man knows when Christ will come again.

Superstitions are nothing but folklore and an example of oral tradition. Tho I do not believe in superstition, I respect the fact that it is a cultural trait of our people. Since oral tradition is quite ubiquitous in the Philippines, given how the Spaniards prevented our ancestral forebears from writing in baybayin , hence oral tradition was the only ways of transmitting old ideas, old thoughts, and all things pre-hispanic , pre-christian to the generations.

For me, and in my honest opinion, if we believe in God the Almighty Father and we trust our life to Him, then there is nothing in this world, or beneath it , demon or mystical, can harm us and touch us. For it is written:

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you [2] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.

It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who diedâ€"more than that, who was raisedâ€"who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.  35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

They have to. To maintain and sustain their enormous economic machine. China consumes more kilowatts of electricity than the United States. The Chinese consume over 400 million kilowatts of electricity , whilst the United States consumes around 380 million kilowatts. That number, China's consumption rate, is expected to increase as the 700 million Chinese that live in the rural places are buying more electric hardware and goods , with help of government subsidies that are implemented to offset the cost of living in the cities and that in the country.

#21284
In the end, China's wealth is not in the goods that it produces, not in the bountiful natural resources within its borders, not its 5,000 year history, but is in its people. There is an ancient Chinese saying, "Millions , but with one Heart..."

And it holds true. The way the Chinese help each other, advance each other, and hold dear their culture is the true strength that makes China truly rich.

Perhaps, other countries can learn from the strength of a homogeneous China. Their collectivism, and team-oriented approach on things, and the notion of "for the good of the Nation" should be emulated and copied in countries that have a weak social structure.

I believe that the United States can learn a good deal from China.

By Martin Hutchinson, Contributing Editor, Money Morning

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) "World Economic Outlook," China's output will surpass that of the United States in 2016 - only five years from now.

But don't worry. The IMF calculation is based on "purchasing power parity" (PPP), which does not reflect real money. It relies on projecting China's stellar growth rates five years into the future. And it relies on Chinese official statistics, which are more than a little questionable.

(In fact, after the media storm that resulted, the IMF apparently even soft-pedaled its prediction that China would leapfrog the United States in just five years; in a subsequent interview, an IMF spokesman reportedly said that, by non-PPP measures, the U.S. economy "will still be 70% larger by 2016." A recent World Bank forecast concluded that China could overtake the United States by 2030.)

This prediction - and the attention it continues to draw - serves a useful purpose, particularly if it's given the scrutiny that it deserves.

For global investors with China-based holdings, it reminds us of that country's long-term potential - and the fact that such potential is always tempered by near-term risk. For the rest of us, it reminds us that China's ascendance is inevitable - in fact, is already happening - and will be with us for a long time, even if that Asian giant isn't immediately going to overwhelm the rest of the world.

And for our elected leaders in Washington, the IMF report - false alarm or not - should serve as a wakeup call to attack and address the many problems that threaten this country's global leadership.

BEIJING: The Chinese economy will surpass that of the US by 2016, the International Monetary Fund ( IMF) has predicted.

According to the IMF's forecast, based on "purchasing power parities", China's gross domestic product (GDP) will rise from $11.2 trillion in 2011 to $19 trillion in 2016, while the American economy will increase from $15.2 trillion to $18.8 trillion.

China's share of the global economy will ascend from 14 percent to 18 percent, while the US' share will descend to 17.7 percent, China Daily reported.

The Economist had predicted in December 2010 that China would overtake the US in terms of nominal GDP in 2019.

Meanwhile, the decision of the credit ratings agency Standard & Poor's analyst Nicola Swann to downgrade US sovereign debt outlook has roiled the world, underscoring the growing view that America is a superpower in decline.

While some financial pundits mocked S&P's call because the agency was one of the cheerleaders for the bubble economy, its warning shot across America's bow was being taken seriously by many for what it augurs for the United States, including by the President himself.

The euphorie of LoVe kay makaboangon ra ba..keep it slowly but sure ahihihi

Truly, it does have addictive qualities. These natural endorphins (endogenous morphines) when produced in superfluous amounts that it becomes ubiquituous in the system, can lead to saturation and eventual dependence. Increased production in endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin can lead to addiction. The production of these said hormones are dependent on the brain's sensation of feelings that one gets form being in 'love'.

In cases of sudden separation and break ups, there is an abrupt halt and production of these hormones. Which leads to withdrawal. The abnormally low oxytocin, serotonin, specifically serotonin, as a result of the cessation of the feeling of ' love ' can lead to depression.

You know that a decreased / abnormally low amount of serotonin can cause clinical depression?

Love, truly, is all in the mind. The mind is such a powerful thing; the notion of 'love' elicits such a prominent euphoric effect , due to the release of hormones such as endorphin, serotonin, oxytocin etc.

Intensive psychiatric evaluation and rehabilitation would be necessary for this person. Psychopharmacology would prove effective to correct this individual's abnormally high dopamine levels, which lead to psychotic manifestation; and the psychodynamic psychotherapy would be used to correct the cognitive and behavioral distortion in this individual.

In treating such behavioral malformations, its best to combine both psychopharmacology with synergistic psychotherapeutic modules.

Mike,

In cases like these, where a person usually breaks down and hurts and harms family member without known reason, one should suspect an acute mental disorder. during my psychiatry rounds at University of Chicago Medical Center, we had cases of parents who killed and attempted to kill relatives due to manic-depressive psychosis. The etiology of this condition is multifactorial; it can be drug related, and even environmental related; but for the most part, etiology is idiopathic.
