superstitions are handed down by tradition, very often as part of a people's culture.  considering the power of the human mind (a kind of energy, a bigger part of which is untapped), some things could come true by the sheer force of shared mental energy.  if we all think it is so, then it becomes true.  we must have heard of the so-called "self-fulfilling prophecy".

mora bitaw ug mas daring ang mga lola ug gamit ug pearls for the simplest of occasions.  i think it's also because pearls are the safest and most subtle of jewelries in terms of matching them with clothes.  never gyod ta nga ma-over when it comes to pearls.  in truth, pearls are very feminine for all ages.  standard jewelry ni nga must-have kunohay ug mga baye, like the lbd (little black dress).

p.s. excepts perhaps for cufflinks and buttons, pearls are the only jewelry that don't fit men.  (a man with a pearl ring or pendant?  weird.)

lucky you your gift-giver insisted on pearls.

Superstitions are nothing but folklore and an example of oral tradition. Tho I do not believe in superstition, I respect the fact that it is a cultural trait of our people. Since oral tradition is quite ubiquitous in the Philippines, given how the Spaniards prevented our ancestral forebears from writing in baybayin , hence oral tradition was the only ways of transmitting old ideas, old thoughts, and all things pre-hispanic , pre-christian to the generations.

For me, and in my honest opinion, if we believe in God the Almighty Father and we trust our life to Him, then there is nothing in this world, or beneath it , demon or mystical, can harm us and touch us. For it is written:

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you [2] free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.

It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.  35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

-Romans Chapter 8 Verse 1,2, 34-38

Puede pood ug motoo lang ta sa abilidad sa GINOO?

Ngano ma hadlok man ta sa mga 'powers' sa daut-daut og motoo man ta sa GINOO?

Ang GINOO ay creator, justifier, judge of all things.

The Lord of All is Jesus Christ. So if we are strong and faithful in Christ. Why should we care about superstitious 'powers'?

Ang mga demonyo ma hadlok sa GINOO. :)

At the Name of Jesus Christ, all things bow, angels, demons, everything in this world. There is such immense power in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2: 9-11,

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place
and gave Him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus EVERY knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

what are you doing getting off-tangent this time once more?  just because some of us tend to play safe with these so-called supertitions doesn't mean that we have stopped believing in god or that these superstitions are evil.  this isn't a one-or-the-other kind of thing.  otherwise, why don't we cross the street in pitch darkness because "motuo lang ta sa abilidad sa ginoo"?

is the u.s.'s observance of halloween or brazil's (and new orlean's) mardi gras against the power of god?  other cultures find these superstitious just as adherents of other religions take our sign of the cross as superstitious.

rice is showered on newlyweds right at the church door, a practice that isn't mentioned at all in the bible.  does this make one's faith in god any less?

Here in  U.S. every New Years Day,I cook black eyed peas because  my mother in law believes  it will make your life long.I guess a lot of Americans do the same thing because grocery stores have them  a week before Jan. 1.
Heres another one,one day I borrowed a knife to cut something and my male American friend hand me a pocket knife.I could not closed it back so I hand it to him and he said I have to closed it because it is bad luck to closed a knife if you are not the one who opens it...
