Some 87,157 family food packs have been distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Provincial Government of Bohol to families affected by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the province, according to Secretary Dinky Soliman during a press conference Saturday.

According to the DSWD website,  Secretary Soliman was in Bohol Saturday to lead in the distribution of relief packs in isolated areas in the province.

Soliman said that relief distribution in Bohol is now on its second cycle with affected families from quake-hit municipalities receiving initial aid from concerned local government units.

She added that Habitat for Humanity’s Mobile Emergency Response vehicle will be deployed in Bohol to help in disaster relief efforts.

“Habitat for Humanity will build nine tents (9) to serve as temporary hospital facility in Municipalities where hospitals were partially damaged,” Soliman said.

A DSWD Team from Central Office has already conducted rapid assessment of the extent of damage in 27 Municipalities affected by the earthquake.

The Bohol provincial hotlines 09173246600 and 09109455146 are open to receive inquiries and requests for assistance.

According to DSWD as of October 20,  Bohol maintains 64 evacuation centers with 21,250 families or 104,953 persons. A total of 51,614 families or 236,509 persons stay in open spaces or in their friends’ and relatives’ houses.(DSWD) - source: PIA

Cayetano to push for SMS-based donation system for calamity victims

“Consider every texter a potential donor.”

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter S. Cayetano bared plans on Thursday to push for an institutionalized system of enabling Filipinos to send donations for victims of calamities via text messages in the wake of the powerful earthquake that struck the Visayas region early this week.

“We have seen an outpour of emotional support to Bohol and Cebu and I am almost sure that almost every one of us would want to help in any way we can to help our fellow Filipinos affected by the recent earthquake,” Cayetano said.

“So why not make sending a donation as easy as sending a text message? It would empower every Filipino whose heart goes out to the calamity victims to actually make a difference even with their P1.”

He said that this would promote and greatly encourage the Filipino’s “spirit of bayanihan” during times of disaster, by using only their mobile phones to send their donations to fellow Pinoys.

Cayetano explained that if 100 million text messages â€" which is only a small portion of the SMS traffic sent out by Filipinos on a daily basis â€" would be directed to a “text-to-donate” type of system, then it would easily raise P100 million in actual funds for the victims.

"It has been done before by the DSWD, Bantay Bata, Red Cross, and PLDT-Smart Foundation but what I want is for this system to be used whenever calamities strike. The application of this project was very limited," Cayetano explained.

“We need to institutionalize and strengthen what was done before so that we can enable everyone who may wish to donate by way of text messaging to calamity victims in the future.”

In order for this endeavor to materialize and succeed, the Senate leader is urging the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Bangko Sentral, along with telecommunications giants Smart and Globe, to discuss how such a donation system can be consolidated and institutionalized to raise funds for victims of calamities.

Aside from the simple SMS-based system of donating, Cayetano said telcos Smart and Globe have Smart Money and G-Cash, respectively, to facilitate fund transfers easily from one subscriber to another, thereby making donations easier and faster.

The alarming rate at which calamities hit the Philippines this year should be enough reason for the said entities to work together in coming up with an easier way to send help to devastated areas, he added.

"Many want to extend help to the victims but find it difficult to do so. We need to establish an easier method by which to send assistance to those heavily affected by calamities," Cayetano stressed.

With the Philippines being hit by almost an increasing number of typhoons every year, the Majority Leader said that an easier and simpler method for raising funds for relief efforts in response to emergency situations was necessary.

"We have the technology. And in a country where cellphones outnumber the population, we really could consider every texter as a potential donor,” Cayetano pointed out.

“And additionally, those who would contribute using this SMS-based donation system can feel the warmth and satisfaction of sending actual help for calamity victims, no matter how small the amount.”

He said that funds raised through the said donation scheme could go directly to the governor of the province devastated by a calamity.

"Raising funds can be as easy as buying a sim card and registering. Like with the recent earthquake in Bohol and Cebu, hospitals in need of assistance or the DOH could have donations sent in through text messages to a certain sim card," the senator explained.

The 14 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) could also be tapped for donations through a text message-based donation system, he said.

He explained that the difficulties encountered by those who wanted to help the victims served a second blow to the nation that was already Mail on Android

Ten Reasons to dispose off your Microwave Oven
From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, one can conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term â€" permanent â€" brain damage by ‘shorting out’ electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumours]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in UK and America .

8 ). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

Talk of the Town / Lost Funds for Tagbilaran Road Projects
September 24, 2013, 07:10:04 PM
by Bohol Chronicle

City lawmakers are demanding for a clear accounting on millions of pesos intended to repair the roads in the city which remain to be one of the worst roads one can see in any  part of the country today.

City Kagawad Bebiano Inting, a CPA and a former banker told the Chronicle that he finds it "foolish for the lawmakers to approve the request for another P240 million for road maintenance when no accounting was done on the earlier release of  P335 million budgeted for roads during the past two and a half years.”

Inting recalled that the city released the amount on a staggered basis for the city road maintenance, namely P81 million in 2011, P135 million in 2012 and P44 million this year. This is aside from the P75 million to be availed as a loan with the Development Bank of the Phils. (DBP).

In an attempt by the majority bloc to have the request of P240 million be approved during last Friday's session, the opposition lawmakers led by Inting successfully managed to block its approval and instead asked that City Engr. Piansicita Castolo to appear during tomorrow's session.

Engr. Castolo will be asked by the lawmakers to attend the session at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, instead of Friday since lawmakers will be attending a conference in Davao City on Friday this week.

Kagawad Inting was vocal on his demand for an  accounting of the P335 million earlier released since it surprised the taxpayers on why such a huge budget  been released and the city roads remain to be at its "worst" with potholes looking like moon craters.

The CPA-lawmaker said that another budgetary outlay which needs an accounting was the release of P50 million last 2009 and the subsequent request of Mayor Dan Lim for the DBP to release the balance of P50 million shortly  before the 2009 elections.

It maybe recalled that a signature campaign signed by thousands of city residents was sent to the DBP in order to manifest the public's objection on the request of Mayor Lim to the bank for the release of another P50 million, shortly before the 2009 polls.

A Houston man shot himself to death in his wife's hospital room on Sunday, 3 1/2 hours after she had given birth to their baby, police said.

"Family members said he has been distraught recently," Houston police spokesman John Cannon said on Monday.

The man, whose identity has not been released, shot himself in a private room at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital in Northwest Houston on Sunday afternoon, Cannon said. He died shortly after being transported to another hospital, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

His wife, who gave birth earlier on Sunday, was not injured, and Cannon said the baby was not in the room at the time.

Although Texas has a law allowing licensed firearms owners to carry concealed weapons, they are prohibited in many places, including hospitals.

Police did not know what kind of gun was used. A spokesperson from the Houston Methodist Hospital would not comment on the incident.

A city lawmaker has criticized a former City Auditor for “playing blind, deaf and dumb” to years of financial mismanagement during the previous city administration.

In yet another privilege speech before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) session last Friday, City Councilor Alexander “Aleckoy” Lim expressed shock that former City Auditor Anecia "Aning" Maglajos never disclosed anomalous transactions involving millions of pesos throughout the incumbency of then City Mayor Dan Lim.

In his speech, Lim narrated that millions of pesos of fees from the city’s enterprise units were not remitted to the city coffers, the discovery of illegal collections done by members of the previous administration’s “task force”, the claims made by the new city mayor that City Hall is facing bankruptcy due to alleged draining out of funds, the failure to submit financial statements by the City Treasurer and City Accountant, the millions of pesos in unliquidated cash advances and the recent finding by a Special Audit Team from the Commission on Audit (COA) regional office of another millions of pesos in unremitted tax collections.

“What was the COA doing during the last nine years?” Lim asked.

According to the lawmaker, he cannot help but suspect that the former city auditor was part of “a great conspiracy of hiding the truth” from the public.

He said that the public shares the same belief and sentiment that “the COA of Tagbilaran City is working for its masters, the previous officials of City Hall, and not for the people of Tagbilaran, its rightful boss.”

“She (Maglajos) must have known something that we do not know. And we want to know why she saw no evil, heard no evil, and smelt no evil in the so many anomalous transactions and dealings of the previous administration,” Lim stressed.

Lim, who is chairman of the SP Committee on Public Accountability and Investigation, said he has filed a resolution demanding for an SP inquiry on the recent discovery of unremitted tax collections involving several personnel at the Office of the City Treasurer.

“The COA, as vanguard of public funds, has failed us. It failed to maintain transparency, it failed to report to the public the millions of pesos lost to private pockets. It failed to investigate the numerous anomalies at City Hall,” Lim declared.

Lim requested his fellow lawmakers that a copy of his privilege speech be furnished to the COA head office and even the Ombudsman so that proper investigation would be conducted into the role of the former city auditor regarding the millions of public funds lost in the past administration.

“COA officials who have not done their duty to protect public funds must face criminal and administrative charges before the Ombudsman,” he said.

Moreover, Lim urged City Mayor John Geesnell Yap II to order department heads to fully cooperate in the ongoing investigations being conducted by the SP.

The councilor likewise requested the mayor to “freeze” all records, documents and papers that may prove crucial in uncovering the truth regarding allegations of irregularities leveled against the former mayor.

Some 88 hostages held in captivity for more than ten days were finally set free and are about to be reunited with their families on Sunday.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), before joining their families, the 88 hostages were taken to Camp Batalla for Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).

CISD is a psycho-social intervention that helps persons cope with their traumatic experiences.

DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman said it is necessary to ensure that the hostages will be relieved from all forms of stress to enable them to regain their normal social and mental functioning.

Among those who received CISD was a 17- year old hostage from Zamboanga Sibugay, who was rescued during the crossfire.

“During the first two days, we were all crying and scared that we might get killed in the crossfire between government forces and the MNLF-Misuari faction,” the boy said.

“After a few days, everyone seemed to have gotten used to the exchange of gunshots,” he said.

Meanwhile a mother of another hostage victim expressed joy in the fact that her son was alright and would still be able to see him alive.

“During the days he was held captive by the MNLF, I could neither sleep nor eat well,” she said.

“Finally, the long wait is over, I can already embrace my son and tell him how much we love him,” she added.

World Daily News / Docking of Cygnus Spacecraft
September 23, 2013, 09:09:37 AM
The docking of a space freighter developed by a private US company with the International Space Station (ISS) has been delayed for at least 48 hours, NASA has reported.

The Cygnus spacecraft, developed by Orbital Sciences, was launched on Wednesday on board the Antares carrier rocket from a NASA launch pad in Virginia. It was set to deliver about 1,300 pounds (589 kilograms) of cargo to the orbital outpost.

Orbital Sciences has confirmed that “at around 1:30 a.m. EDT, its Cygnus spacecraft established direct data contact with the International Space Station (ISS) and found that some of the data received had values that it did not expect, causing Cygnus to reject the data.”

“The minimum turnaround time to resume the approach to the ISS following an interruption such as this is approximately 48 hours due to orbital mechanics of the approach trajectory,” NASA said.

Cygnus is expected to stay at the orbital station for about a month before making a dive in the Earth’s atmosphere to plunge in the Pacific Ocean.

Orbital Sciences was selected in 2008 to work with NASA on the space agency’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program, which helps US companies develop privately operated, cost-effective and safe space transportation systems.

At least 78 people were killed and over 146 others injured when a twin suicide bomb attack hit a Christian church in Pakistan's northwest Peshawar city on Sunday, officials said.

Zaheer-ul-Islam, deputy commissioner of Peshawar, said that the fatal blast killed 78 people and injured 146 others who are being treated at Lady Reading Hospital in the city.

He said that the incident happened at about 11:45 a.m. local time when two suicide bombers blew up their explosive-laden vests inside the church when around 500 to 600 people of Christian community were coming out of the church after offering Sunday prayers.

He said that the explosion hit one of the city's oldest churches called "Pakistan Church", located in Kohati Gate area of Peshawar, the capital city of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province.

Briefing about causalities, Chief Executive of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar said that the dead bodies include two policemen, seven children and 34 women, while the injured people included 44 women and 11 children.

He said that there might be a rise in fatality number as several among the injured people were in critical condition.

Shafqat Malik, inspector general of Bomb Disposal Squad, said that the blasts took place one after another and the two suicide bombers were carrying an estimated 7 kg of explosives each in their explosive vests.

Priest Ijaz, administrator of the church, said that the blasts occurred when some people were going back to their homes after prayers and some were having lunch outside the prayer hall.

"We were going out of the church after expressing our gratitude to God in prayers when the bomber attacked us. He killed our women, our kids and our men mercilessly,"said the father of a deceased minor girl.

Christian community across the country announced a three-day protest against the incident and urged the government to provide security to churches across the country.

Christians in the country's southern port city of Karachi blocked several roads and pelted stones at police and the passing traffic, causing damage to several vehicles.

Protesters in eastern Lahore city, Islamabad and southwest city of Quetta also held peaceful demonstrations to protest against the brutal killing.

Bishop Sadiq Daniel, representative of Christian community in Pakistan, condemned the attack and said that no religion allows anyone to attack religious places.

Security at all churches across the county was beefed up following the blast, reported local media.

The provincial government announced 500,000 rupees (about US$ 4,717) in compensation to the families of the deceased and 200,000 rupees(about US$ 1,887) to the families of the injured people.

Both Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have condemned the attack.

Local TV Waqt reported that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Jandola group, a fraction of Pakistan Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that they would continue attacking non-Muslims until the permanent stoppage of U.S. drone strikes in Northwest Pakistan.

The attack took place at a time when the country's army and political parties were in the process of conducting peace talks with Taliban militants.

A World War II soldier's heartfelt letter to his daughter has finally reached her, seven decades after it was written.

Peggy Eddington-Smith received the letter penned by her father, Pfc. John Eddington, as well as his Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals, during an emotional ceremony Saturday in Dayton, Nev., about 40 miles southeast of Reno.

The father she never met wrote the three-page letter shortly after she was born and shortly before he died in Italy in June 1944. He sent it while stationed in Texas, just before he was sent overseas.

Getting his medals was nice, but the letter meant more because it made her feel closer to her father, Eddington-Smith said. She knew little about him since her mother could rarely bring herself to discuss the love of her life.

"The letter gave me more knowledge of who he was," she told The Associated Press. "He poured out his heart to me, and a lot of men don't put that kind of emotion in writing. I'm just overwhelmed by everything, trying to absorb everything."

Donna Gregory of St. Louis found the soldier's letter and other World War II memorabilia in a box 14 years ago while helping her then-husband clean out his grandparents' home in Arnold, Mo., a St. Louis suburb.

Gregory's voice cracked with emotion as she read the letter Saturday, bringing tears to Eddington-Smith and many in the crowd of about 150.

The soldier devoted the first page to his wife, saying he hoped she did not find it "silly" that he was writing a letter to a child who could not read.

Addressing the next two pages to his "darling" daughter, he wrote that while she may not see him "for some time," he wanted her to know that she was always on his mind.

"I love you so much," the letter says. "Your mother and daddy ... are going to give you everything we can. We will always give you all the love we have."

Eddington urged his daughter to "always treat your mother right. You have the sweetest mother on the Earth."

He closed the letter by writing, "I love you with all my heart and soul forever and forever. Your loving daddy."

Eddington-Smith and Gregory are unsure what connection the soldier had to the couple who owned the house where his memorabilia was found. Eddington was from Leadwood, Mo., about 75 miles southwest of St. Louis.

Gregory tracked down Smith in June after a search that involved libraries and the Internet. Both women cried during their initial phone conversation that left the daughter shocked by the items' discovery.

Eddington-Smith knew her father died in the war. She was unaware of the letter and other contents of the box, including 16 letters from Eddington to his mother, his draft card and military dog tags, his high school diploma and newspaper clips.

An only child, she grew up in St. Louis and lived there until her mid-20s. She moved with her four children to Nevada in 1972 after a divorce. Her mother, Helen, never remarried and died in 1997.

"I would ask my mother why she didn't get remarried and her only comment was that she found the perfect man and will never again find the perfect man," Eddington-Smith said.

Opposition to SP endorsement on BQ reclamation shapes up
by Rey Anthony Chiu

Alarmed over rumors that the city council is drafting a resolution endorsing to the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) an alleged illegal reclamation here, a group of civil society initiators are up to make a stir.

Civil society convenor Paterna Ruiz openly asks why the Tagbilaran City Sangguniang Panlungsod is endorsing Bohol Quality’s illegal reclamation and not the others who are also similarly engaged in encroaching into the city’s foreshore areas and making environmental problems?

Rumors which civil society members have leaked to environment advocates bare that the city council is drafting a resolution endorsing BQ’s reclamation 2.1 hectares, which compounds the discrepancy when the pending application filed at the PRA by the same entity is 2.3 hectares.

In fact, Ruiz, who was among those who performed actual survey on the city foreshore areas which are reclaimed said BQ has in fact covered some 5.6 hectares already.

Ruiz also showed that in Tagbilaran City, there are some 8.369 hectares of illegally reclaimed lots by private individuals while government institutions occupy some .294 hectares of unlawful and unpermitted reclamation projects.

“Upon which framework is the SP using, to endorse an illegal activity to the PRA?” she asked during the Kapihan sa PIA.

Apart from BQ, other private sectors with pending or no application for reclamation but nevertheless went on with the land dumps, include two in Cogon: Bohol Tropics at .3 hectares and Alturas with .5 hectares.

In Poblacion 2 where the main bulk of foreshores are reclaimed, violators include the .552 hectares of Jjs Seafoods Village, .327 hectares of Ramiro Community Hospital and BQ’s 5.6 hectares.

In Poblacion 2 are government facilities built on reclaimed lots without PRA nod.

These include the Senior Citizens with .025 hectares, Philippine Coast Guard’s .052 hectares, Maritime Police’s .03, K of C Day Care .099 and the League of Municipalities at .088 hectares or a total of .294 hectares, records presented by Ruiz showed.

In Mansasa, Villa Alzhun Tourist in has .05 hectares and Crabhouse also has reclaimed 1 hectare.

In Bool, Jun Mercado accordingly reclaimed .04 hectares, Ruiz said.

Records also would show that only seven of all these violators have applied for a special PRA registration, but none has come out from the PRA, sources privy to the applications revealed.

Existing reclamations have caused damages: destruction and degradation of the city’s coastal resources; mangroves were cut, seagrass beds were wiped out and the areas are converted into a business zone where hotels, lodging houses and settlements have been erected.

For structures within the disputed areas, no building permits were issued on buildings erected in the area, according to Ruiz.

As the foreshore land was transformed into a business zone, the problems of marine pollution, resource degradation and destruction of the ecosystem are now confronting the city of Tagbilaran on its face, Ruiz pointed out.

Because of this, Ruiz is now inviting civil society groups and Tagbilaranons to unite and oppose the endorsement, for the violators to accept the recommendations of the foreshore audit which includes the Ecosystem Study on the Tagbilaran City Channel and to put up an ordinance that bans reclamations until a thorough study can be completed.

Moreover, the civil society groups want to exact accountability of violators rather than award them for their unauthorized reclamation, develop a policy on Foreshore Development and management anchoring on the principle of sustainable ecosystem development and pursue a co-management scheme with the PRA and the DENR.

Philippine NGOs urged to get accreditation with DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas has urged Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to register and acquire Certificate and License to Operate as a welfare agency to be a legitimate organization.

A total of 165 NGOs in the region are currently recognized by the DSWD-7, 114 are from Cebu, 26 are in Negros Oriental while the remaining 25 are from Bohol.

“Our region is the second highest in terms of the number of registered NGOs nationwide, second to the National Capital Region (NCR) and we are proud that all of them complied with all the necessary requirements to operate that we have given them,” said DSWD-7 Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat.

DSWD requires NGOs to secure Certificate of Registration from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and/or Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

Jabagat added that organizations which are already operating should submit annual accomplishment reports and audited financial reports for the last two years to determine capability to sustain operations.

“We have organized a monitoring system to further check the veracity and legitimacy of the applying NGO and that includes visiting in their office address and interacting with board of directors,” she emphasized.

“We have stringent processes because we don’t want to have bogus and fly by night NGOs,” she added.
After recognizing the organization through registration and licensing, DSWD conducts accreditation of the programs and services of the NGO six months after the issuance of its registration certificates and licenses to operate.

“We need to ensure that the programs and services that they are providing are following the DSWD standards and the delivery of their social protection services to their beneficiaries are sustainable,” Jabagatadded.

DSWD-7 conducts a quarterly meetingwith the NGOs through the Area-Based Standard Network (ABS-Net), an organization of DSWD registered and licensed NGOs. This meeting serves a venue to share new guidelines, discuss updates on various programs and services, share good practices and resolve issues and concerns.

Technical assistance is also being provided to the members, both by DSWD and the officers of ABS-Net who are NGO representatives themselves.

Director Jabagat underscored the importance of partnerships between DSWD and NGOs. She furthered said, “DSWD is not alone in fighting poverty in our country because we have reliable partners like NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), so it is but important in building stronger partnership with them especially in the implementation of our core poverty alleviation programs.” (PR â€" KerwinMacopia)

A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the National Highway outside Malolos. Nothing was moving. Suddenly, a man knocks on the window.

The driver rolls down the window and asks, "What's going on?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped the entire House of Representatives and Senate, and they're asking for a P100 million ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them all in petrol and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, collecting donations."

"How much is everyone giving, on average?" the driver asks.
The man replies, "Roughly a liter."

A man was brought before the judge and charged with NECROPHILIA (sex with a corpse).

The judge told him, "In 20 years on the bench, I've never heard such a disgusting, immoral thing.Just give me one good reason why I shouldn't lock you up and throw away the jail keys?"

The man replied, "I'll give you THREE good reasons:

1. She was my WIFE!

2. I didn't KNOW she was DEAD! and

3. She ALWAYS acted that WAY!"

Judge released him from sentence and advised everyone at the Court Room:
"SO LADIES, TRY TO MOVE A LITTLE DURING THE SESSION!

And GUYS, IF THERE IS NO MOVEMENT, STOP IMMEDIATELY AND CHECK IF SHE IS DEAD OR ALIVE !"

Philippine Business News / China Sells Tons of Fake Beef
September 19, 2013, 11:42:43 AM
This week, police in Xi’an province reported that they had found and seized more than 22 tons of fake beef at a local factory. Get this: the “beef” was actually made from pork (which is considerably cheaper than beef) that had been treated with chemicals including paraffin wax and industrial salts to make it look like it came from a cow. Shanghiist reports that the factory sold more than 1,500 kilos (3,000 pounds) of the fake beef to local markets at around 25 to 33 yuan ($4 or $5) per kilo. Six workshops that were producing the fake beef have been discovered and shut down.

This isn’t the first instance of fake meat being sold in China. In May of this year, Medical Daily reported that 904 people were arrested in China for “meat-related offenses” over three months at the beginning of 2013. Included in these arrests was one gang of meat crooks who made over 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) by selling rat, fox, and mink meat at markets. This makes us wonder what impostor foods we might be eating, which in turn makes us very, very uncomfortable.

Health and Food / 7 Things Not To Do After Eating
September 17, 2013, 09:36:32 PM
DON'T ACT THE 7 ACTIONS BELOW AFTER YOU HAVE A MEAL

* Don't smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).

* Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruit 1-2 hr after meal or 1hr before meal.

* Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.

* Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted & blocked.

* Don't bathe - Bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

* Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In actual fact this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.

* Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

News on Claudia Zobel's death in 1984, as published by Times Journal.

By SunStar

Two suspected improvised bombs exploded on Monday night inside SM City Davao and Gaisano malls, the police reported.

The first explosion happened inside SM City Davao's Cinema 1 at 9:03 p.m., Davao City Police Director Ronald dela Rosa said in a text message sent to Sun.Star.

Dela Rosa said police authorities and bomb squad personnel immediately responded to SM City Davao located in Ecoland after the blast.

The authorities then advised all the moviegoers inside Cinema 1, including from other cinemas of SM City Davao, to vacate the area for possible secondary blast.

The bomb was found on top of the a seat in first row orchestra section of the cinema, the police reported.

No one was reported hurt in the explosion inside SM City Davao since all 10 moviegoers were seated at the cinema's balcony.

However, five people were slightly injured after a second suspected bomb went off inside Cinema 5 in Gaisano mall in Bajada, this city, at 9:25 p.m.

The five moviegoers were brought to San Pedro Hospital after complaining of ear pain due to the blast.

Authorities found the bomb beneath seat #6 of the ninth row.

The identities of the five victims are not yet known as of this posting.

When her coffin was opened, relatives of Claudia Zobel, the Cebuana bold star who died in a car crash in 1984, were stunned.
Her face and body appeared almost intact after her remains were exhumed from the Queen City Memorial Gardens in Cebu City.

Relatives of the then 18-year-old celebrity â€" Thelma Maloloy-on in real life â€" were expecting to find only human bones 29 years after she was buried.

Similar cases have been reported in the cemetery, where saltwater sometimes seeps into underground tombs, preserving the human remains like a mummy.

Zobel shot to fame when the Board of Censors banned her launch film titled “Shame”. She made four movies â€" Shame, “Magdalena sa Buong Magdamag”, “Uhaw sa Pag-ibig” and “Sinner or Saint” (formerly titled Forbidden).

Her elder brother Ernesto Maloloy-on said the family had wanted to transfer her skeletal remains and have them buried with their late father.

An air-tight casket can produce that effect, said Renan Cimafranca, chief of the Department of Health Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.

“When the casket is properly sealed, only a small volume of air can enter resulting in lesser pathogens or bacteria that slows the decomposition of the body,” he said.

“When the body is exposed to extreme heat, there is less moisture and the body dries up,” he added.
