"I was afraid to get out of the room. So I obliged," matod ni Mara.

"Ma'am...then told me that she has an American friend who can help me and who will marry me. The American is willing to send some money for me every month," sumala sa affidavit ni Mara.

"Maam...told me that the American is here in the Philippines and wants to meet with me. Because I was in need of money...I agreed to meet with the American friend of Ma'am on the same day," dugang sa iyang affidavit.

Boodle fight may sound like something a soldier would use during combat but it is actually a Filipino style of eating. We would often see this on the news when a politician visits a military base or after joint military exercises. In a normal meal, food is served on separate dishes but in a boodle fight, everything is laid out on a giant banana leaf for everyone to feast on. Another thing that makes boodle fight truly Filipino is the use bare hands in place of utensils.

Pope Francis dropped in on lunch at the Vatican cafeteria on Friday "like a thunderbolt out of the blue," according the restaurant's chef. As the Mirror reported, the pope went through the line himself, ordered cod for the Friday fish, ate and chatted with a table of Vatican workers, and then bussed his own tray.

After finishing his meal, the Pope blessed those gathered and praised the quality of the food."
The impromptu "First Supper" came just hours after speculation began about a possible American tour by the pontiff come 2015. The rumors have yet to be confirmed.

MANILA -- The Philippines is set to welcome early morning Sunday its 100 millionth citizen.

Dr. Juan Antonio Perez III, Commission on Population (Popcom) Executive director, said the country's population is expected to hit 100 million on July 27 at 12:06 a.m. given the present rate of about three babies being born every minute.

"These babies will usher symbolic hope for better quality of life as they epitomize the challenge to make every Filipino count in the country's development," said Perez.

The country is presently the 12th most populous country in the world while only ranked 71st in terms of land area.

And as part of the government celebration of the milestone, Perez said all local government units (LGUs) will come up with a list of 100 babies born at 12:06 a.m. or seconds/minutes later.

He said the babies must be born in a government-licensed health facility, at a time certified in observance of the Philippine Standard Time (PST), and certified by the attending birth attendant/doctor.

Perez also said only babies born through normal spontaneous delivery are qualified to vie for the recognition and that the parents should also be residents of the provinces in the region.

"The LGUs will ensure that these symbolic babies will have all the population development support and services they need--that they go to school, they are healthy, they have livelihood opportunity, etc," the official noted.

"If they get all these, then it means that the other people in that LGU are getting the same support and services, it also means that the government is doing a good job," added Perez.

The "symbolic babies" and their families are set to receive starter kits worth P5,000 each, said Popcom. (HDT/Sunnex)

"Human impacts on animal biodiversity are an under-recognized form of global environmental change," the team of ecologists and biologists warn in Science. "Among terrestrial vertebrates, 322 species have become extinct since 1500, and populations of the remaining species show 25% average decline in abundance."

A third of all vertebrates, the scientists write, "are threatened or endangered."

There are several long-time drivers of what researchers call "defaunation" â€" the decline of various animal species. The study points to " overexploitation,  habitat destruction, and impacts from invasive  species" as continuing threats, but notes that soon, human-caused climate change will be the number one driver of defaunation. Diseases that come from pathogens introduced by humans are another growing threat.

The good news? We're not yet totally doomed.

As David Biello writes in Scientific American:

To avoid the sixth mass extinction we will probably have to employ more aggressive conservation, such as  moving species to help them cope with a changing climate . Think re-wilding: reintroducing species like wolves or beavers that were once present in a given ecosystem but have since disappeared. Aggressive conservation might also mean killing off newcomer species to preserve or make room for local flora and fauna.

As another study in Science notes, we've already made headway in saving some animals from what seemed like certain ruin.

But if humans as a species don't want to take our chances with a sixth mass extinction, we need to start taking drastic measures now. The momentum is already moving against us.

Approximately 65 million years ago, when the dinosaurs went extinct,  75% of the planet's many species went with them. It was the world's fifth, and most recent, mass extinction event.

Now, according to a July 25 review in the journal Science, the Earth seems to be at the cusp of a sixth mass extinction. Only this time, an asteroid is not to blame. We are.

Masilela's mother, Patience, defended the wedding, as well, in a press release obtained by BuzzFeed.

"People keep asking will they live together, sleep together, have babies, but I keep telling them that after the wedding, everything went back to normal â€"- nothing changed," she said. "All this ceremony is for making ancestors happy. We are playing.”

Masilela told Barcroft he would marry a woman his own age when he got older.

His parents shelled out about $1,700 for the ceremony, according to Barcroft.

With these stories that come from far-off lands and are pitched by photo agencies, there is often cause to be skeptical that they are, in fact, what they appear to be.

The Huffington Post reached out to Joel Samoff, a professor of African studies at Stanford University in California, who called the story "possible" but not "significant."

"I suppose it is possible. But it is certainly not significant. Perhaps in the realm of carnival side shows -- the lady with the heavy beard, or twelve fingers and toes," Samoff said in an email to HuffPost.

The professor also said that having two ceremonies was not unusual.

"On ceremonies, just as in the U.S., sometimes the two families prefer to organize two ceremonies, for example, in a Christian/Jewish marriage, or when the two families live far apart," Samoff said. "That, too, seems neither very unusual nor very significant."
#11523
The second ceremony took place because the boy wanted to make it "official," though members of both families made it clear that the marriage was not legally binding, the pair do not live together and, as the Independent reports, they don't have sexual relations.

In fact, Shabangu is a married mother of five, according to South Africa's Daily Sun, where the story appears to have originated.

But, the Sun reports that some villagers found the ceremony disgusting.

“I am shocked. This is wrong," Tressy Mathebula told the Sun.

The wedding was also attended by Shabangu's husband, Alfred Shabangu, who spoke out in support of the wedding.

"My kids and I are happy because we don't have a problem with her marrying the boy -- and I don’t care what other people say,” Shabangu said, according to the Mirror.

It's not legal, it's not sexual, but it is still disturbing.

A woman in her 60s, who is a mother of five, renewed her marriage vows with a 9-year-old boy in a wedding ceremony in South Africa earlier this month.

Helen Shabangu wed Sanele Masilela in a second ceremony in as many years on July 12 in Kildare Village, Ximhungwe.

The couple got married last year after Masilela said his dead ancestors told him to, according to Barcroft Media.

how about the possibility of the great creator we call god creating aliens too?  adam was for us, earthlings.  those martians and plutonians may have their own adamex too.  who can say? ;D

The great Ham respondeth to thee thus:

Jesus did not become the “GodKlingon” or the “GodMartian”! Only descendants of Adam can be saved. God’s Son remains the “Godman” as our Savior. In fact, the Bible makes it clear that we see the Father through the Son (and we see the Son through His Word). To suggest that aliens could respond to the gospel is just totally wrong.

Creationist Ken Ham, who recently debated Bill Nye the Science Guy over the origins of the universe, is calling for an end to the search for extraterrestrial life because aliens probably don't exist -- and if they do, they're going to Hell anyway.

"You see, the Bible makes it clear that Adam’s sin affected the whole universe," Ham wrote on his blog on Sunday. "This means that any aliens would also be affected by Adam’s sin, but because they are not Adam’s descendants, they can’t have salvation."

The post was driven in part by NASA experts saying that they expect to find evidence of alien life within the next 20 years.

"It's highly improbable in the limitless vastness of the universe that we humans stand alone," NASA administrator Charles Bolden said last week.

But Ham, president and CEO of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., said we probably are alone. He wrote "earth was specially created," and the entire hunt for extraterrestrials is "really driven by man’s rebellion against God in a desperate attempt to supposedly prove evolution!"

Palestinians sleep at a United Nations school, where people who fled heavy Israeli shelling in the Shejaia neighbourhood sought refuge during fighting, in Gaza City on July 21, 2014. Israeli forces killed at least 10 Palestinian militants on Monday after they crossed the border from Gaza through two tunnels, the military said, as the death toll from the two-week conflict passed 500. The overnight raids lifted the Palestinian death toll to 484, mostly civilians, since fighting started on July 8. Israel says 18 of its soldiers have also died along with two civilians. Hall of Geckos
By Clovis Nazareno

From blank wall to the other blanks bounce
Croaks of the elderly echoing the same stage
Hall of cinematic acrobatic lizard schemes.
The faded flag is draped over the coffin.
Above the torso peeks the cosmetic face, oblivious
To the gecko's ceiling antics, begins to gather dust.
Tok ten times while the curved tail slaps the wall
Panel. We forecast our fortune by the alternate fall
Of the tok. Each exercise ends in smelling wax.
Coffee is served liberally like animosities.
Rivalries and covetousness lurk in the funeral smoke.
The lizard with the hugest eyes drops its wet reminder.
Ten geckos in unison croaking alternately yes or no
Scatter immortality and greatness from the plastic chairs
Out into the black, mocking the agile deft lawyer
The sons daughters kin the wake repels true
Feelings toward lizards crawling upturned the ceiling
Of the wide hall usual with cinema ridicule.
Salute to the people inside the hall to the grave face
Inside the coffin to the flag that accompanies it below
The earth is the hoarse gecko's final tune, our fate-mate.

History / The Final Moments Of Regina Kay Walters
July 22, 2014, 04:13:26 PM

Regina Kay Walters was a 14-year-old girl from Pasadena, Texas, who was murdered by a notorious serial killer, Robert Ben Rhoades. One of three victimsâ€"although Rhoades claims to have killed moreâ€"Walters was the unfortunate exception in the way Rhoades toyed with her. Rhodes cut her hair, dressed her up, and took pictures of her in distressâ€"the most saddening of which is the picture you see above.

Robert Ben Rhoades was captured in September 1992, but not before taking two more lives. He was sentenced to life without parole and remains imprisoned in Texas to this day.

The picture of this young girl in her final momentsâ€"dressed, altered, and stranded with a monster like Rhoadesâ€"is a difficult thing to look at. The forceful nature of the lens being pointed at Walters and the look of desperation on her face make this picture a hideous display in human tortureâ€"a cat playing with a mouse. An image that will forever mark the breaking of one man’s psyche. -- http://listverse.com/

(Updated 2:34 p.m.) A Filipino construction worker in Libya was beheaded by militants in Benghazi, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

He is the first Filipino casualty in Libya since the civil strife in the North African state erupted anew, Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose told a press briefing.

Citing the report of the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli and Filipino community members, Jose said the Filipino, whose identity he refused to disclose, was kidnapped by armed men on July 15 and was subsequently beheaded in Benghazi.

“The vehicle he was riding in was stopped in a checkpoint and he was allegedly singled out because he was non-Muslim,” Jose said.

Jose said the Filipino’s kidnappers initially demanded a $160,000-dollar ransom or about P6.9 million in current local conversion, but his body was later on discovered at a hospital after four days.

“The company negotiated with the kidnappers and on the fourth day when they decided to pay the ransom, they received a call from the abductors, saying the Filipino's body is in the hospital,” Jose said, adding the  remains were already in a state of advanced decomposition.

“It is possible that he is already dead when the kidnappers were negotiating for ransom,” Jose said.

Libya is currently in a state of civil war. The Philippine government is currently enforcing the mass evacuation of around 13,000 Filipinos there.  â€"NB/KBK, GMA News

What next?

Aviation experts cautioned against jumping to conclusions about Thursday’s crash at this early stage.

But all agreed that a massive investigation should be launched, involving parties not involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia,

The families of people on board will demand a transparent international investigation, and so will the global community, Quest said.

CNN aviation analyst and pilot Miles O’Brien said he thinks it would be difficult to mistake the plane for a military or hostile aircraft.

“A civilian airliner at that level, at that flight path, would be very difficult to mistake for something that has hostile intent,” he said.

The wreckage path, O’Brien said, will reveal a lot. If a plane breaks up in midair, which is likely what would happen in a missile strike, there would be a large swath of wreckage, he said, but if it breaks down due to mechanical failure, the debris field would be more concentrated.

Airline’s troubles

Thursday’s crash marks the second time this year that Malaysia Airlines has faced an incident involving a downed plane.

On March 8, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared. That Boeing 777 had 239 people on board. Searchers have found no trace of 370 or its passengers, despite extensive search efforts.

Flight 370 probably flew into the southern Indian Ocean on autopilot with an unresponsive crew, Australian authorities said last month.

During the early phase of the search for Flight 370, aircraft and ships scoured vast stretches of the surface of the southern Indian Ocean but found no debris.

Pings initially thought to be from the missing plane’s flight recorders led to a concentrated underwater search that turned up nothing.

A new underwater search, farther south, will be broadly in an area where planes and vessels had already looked for debris on the surface of the water. It is expected to begin in August.

The first Boeing 777 entered service in June 1985, and the airplane has flown almost five million flights, accumulating more than 18 million flight hours, according to Boeing’s web site. The plane is capable to flying up to 43,100 feet.

Putin expresses condolences

Putin “expressed deep condolences” to Malaysia’s Prime Minister over the crash, a post Thursday on the Kremlin’s website said. He “asked to pass the most sincere word of condolences and support to families and relatives of (the crash) victims,” the post said.

Near the end of a phone call Thursday morning with President Obama, Putin noted to the President the early reports of a downed passenger jet near the Russia-Ukraine border, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

Obama directed his staff to be in touch with senior Ukrainian officials, Earnest said.

Later Thursday, Obama said the crash “looks like it may be a terrible tragedy” and he said efforts were underway to determine if any Americans were aboard.

Poroshenko said he has expressed condolences to Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte about the crash.

Ukrainian forces have been struggling to quell the separatist unrest. Ukraine’s government has accused Russia of allowing weapons and military equipment, including tanks, to cross the border illegally into the hands of pro-Russian separatists.

The Pentagon said Wednesday that Russia now has 12,000 troops on the border with Ukraine, as well as some heavy weapons. The troop numbers had fallen to about 1,000 previously from a high of an estimated 40,000 forces earlier this year.
On Thursday, CNN reported that Ukrainian officials said a Russian fighter shot down a Ukrainian jet Wednesday as the jet flew in Ukrainian airspace.

Tensions are high over that incident, separate from the breaking news of the Malaysian flight Thursday.

Three months ago, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration prohibited U.S. airlines from flying in areas not far from where Flight 17 reportedly crashed Thursday. “Due to the potential for conflicting air traffic control instructions from Ukrainian and Russian authorities and for the related potential misidentification of civil aircraft, United States flight operations are prohibited until further notice in the airspace over Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov,” the FAA said in April. Thursday’s plane crash reportedly was in eastern Ukraine, scores of miles north-northeast of the Sea of Azov.

On Thursday, French transportation official Frederic Cuvillier ordered that French airlines avoid Ukrainian airspace until the cause of Thursday’s Malaysia Airlines crash is known, the French Transportation Ministry said in a news release.

Russia-Ukraine dispute

The route the Malaysian plane was on, between Kuala Lumpur and the Netherlands, is a common one, CNN aviation safety consultant Mary Schiavo said Thursday. She said that the plane was flying over a troubled area and that close communication with air traffic controllers would be a key necessity.

Torez is in a rebel-held area.

In hostile or disputed areas, “any alteration from your course, and you can have a problem,” Schiavo said.

Tensions have been high between Ukraine and Russia since street protests forced former pro-Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych from power in February. Russia subsequently annexed Ukraine’s southeastern Crimea region, and a pro-Russian separatist rebellion has been raging in Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

CNN’s Richard Quest, an aviation expert, said that it would be “extremely unusual” for an airliner at nearly 33,000 feet to be shot down. From the ground, one could simply look up and tell whether a plane was a commercial aircraft.

“It looks like a commercial aircraft, it squawks a commercial aircraft. So something is absolutely appalling that’s gone on here,” he said.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said that Ukraine’s president had accepted an offer of U.S. experts to help investigate the crash.

“They will be on their way rapidly to see if we can get to the bottom of this,” he said.

Biden said the plane was apparently shot down, adding “not an accident, blown out of the sky.”

Vice President of Malaysia Airlines Europe Huib Gorter told reporters that the 15 crew members on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 were all Malaysian nationals.

Malaysia Airlines gave a breakdown of the known nationalities of the 283 passengers: 154 were Dutch, 27 were Australians, 30 were Malaysians, 12 were Indonesian, nine were from the United Kingdom, four were from Germany; four were from Belgium, three were from the Philippines and one was Canadian. Authorities were still trying to determine the nationalities of the other passengers.

As news broke of the crash, Malaysia Airlines confirmed in a tweet that it lost contact with Flight 17 and that the jet’s last known position was over Ukrainian airspace.

As details emerge, accusations fly

Details â€" and accusations â€" quickly poured in about Thursday’s crash, which came the same week that Ukrainian officials said a Russian fighter shot down a Ukrainian military transport plane while the aircraft was in Ukrainian airspace.

Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, said in a Facebook post that “terrorists” fired on the plane operating a Buk surface-to-air missile system.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko described the crash as a “terrorist action.”

“We do not exclude that the plane was shot down and confirm that the Ukraine Armed Forces did not fire at any targets in the sky,” Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said, according to his website.

Firm details about what happened remained scarce.

Charred wreckage stretched for kilometers, he said. Stunned rescue workers and rebel fighters combed the area, Sneider said, planting sticks with white cotton ribbons where they found bodies in the fields.

“As you walk through the fields, you see a man with his cracked iPhone sticking out of his pocket. You see sort of people’s clothing everywhere. Most of it’s kind of ripped off by the air. There’s some suitcases and stuff in a pile by the road,” Sneider said.

There were many bodies left to be found as night fell, he said, and people were trying to figure out what to do next.

Locals in the rural area trying to help were overwhelmed, he said. Firemen who rushed to put out the flames found they had a hose with holes in it, spraying water everywhere, he said.

“One man said to me, ‘Nothing’s happened in this village for 30 years, and now this,’” Sneider said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine’s military campaign against the separatists was to blame.

“This tragedy would not have happened, if there had been peace on that land, or in any case, if military operations in southeastern Ukraine had not been renewed,” Putin said in televised remarks. “And without a doubt the government of the territory on which it happened bears responsibility for this frightening tragedy.”

Ukraine’s state security chief accused two Russian military intelligence officers of involvement and said they must be punished.

Valentyn Nalyvaichenko said he based his allegation on intercepts of phone conversations between the two officers. “Now you know who carried out this crime. We will do everything for the Russian military who carried out this crime to be punished,” he told reporters.

Emergency crews scrambled to what witnesses described as a staggering scene of death and utter destruction.

“People said the plane kind of exploded in the air, and that everything rained down in bits and pieces, the plane itself, the people inside,” said Noah Sneider, an American freelance journalist who interviewed witnesses at the scene.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the plane never made a distress call.

He called for an international team to have full access to the crash site.

“We must and we will find out precisely what happened to this flight. No stone will be left unturned,” he said.

“If it transpires that the plane was indeed shot down, we insist that the perpetrators must swiftly be brought to justice,” Najib said.

Ukrainian officials maintained that pro-Russian separatists were behind the crash, which sent the jet falling from the sky in a fireball with a trail of black smoke.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet crashed in a rebel-controlled part of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, spurring swift accusations from Ukrainian officials that “terrorists” shot down the aircraft.

The United States has concluded a missile shot down the Malaysia airlines plane, but hasn’t pinpointed who was responsible, a senior U.S. official told CNN’s Barbara Starr.

The Boeing 777 with 298 people aboard fell from the sky near the town of Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, officials said. A top Ukrainian official said the plane, which was on the way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was flying at about 10,000 meters (nearly 33,000 feet) when the missile hit.

A radar system saw a surface-to-air missile system turn on and track an aircraft right before the plane went down, the senior U.S. official said. A second system saw a heat signature at the time the airliner was hit, the official said. The United States is analyzing the trajectory of the missile to try to learn where the attack came from.

World Bank president Jim Yong Kim on Tuesday described the Philippines as the next "Asian miracle" and a global model in fighting corruption, as it emerges from decades as a regional economic laggard.

Kim said President Benigno Aquino should take much of the credit for the turnaround, highlighting his anti-corruption campaign, efforts to build transparency in government and focus on "inclusive growth".

"Can the Philippines be the next Asian miracle? (After) coming here, I think there is no question that is the case," Kim, who was on a two-day visit, told a forum at the presidential palace.

Kim heaped praise on Aquino's anti-graft fight, which has seen the president's predecessor and three sitting senators charged with corruption, as well as the impeachment of a Supreme Court chief justice.

"Among the most important things you can do is tackle corruption and... that is one of things that the (Aquino) government is doing frankly better than any government in the world," Kim said.

Typhoon shuts down Philippine capital, kills 11

The first typhoon of the Philippines' brutal rainy season shut down the nation's capital on Wednesday, killing at least 11 people across the country and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate.

Ferocious winds from Typhoon Rammasun tore roofs off houses, overturned cars and ripped trees out of the ground in the megacity of Manila, as well as remote fishing villages hundreds of kilometres away.

"I thought I was going to die. I went out to look for gasoline in case we needed to evacuate, but it was a mistake," said tricycle driver Pedro Rojas, 35, as he nursed a cut head while sheltering at a town hall on the outskirts of Manila.

"My tricycle rolled over twice after I slammed into sheets of rain. It was like hitting a wall... huge tin roofings were flying everywhere."

Falling trees, poles and walls killed at least 11 people across the northern parts of the Philippines that Rammasun swept over with wind gusts approaching 200 kilometres (120 miles) an hour, authorities said.

Roadworthy

He assured that the vehicles are roadworthy and comply with government rules. “Before turning over a unit we will make sure that we have complied with the necessary requirements of the LTO,” Bryan said, adding that they have drove the cars at the South Luzon Expressway when they joined the recent Trans Sport Show.

“As of now there are orders coming in, not just locally but also outside the Philippines. However, I told them that I will inform them as soon as we have established everything,” he said.

With regards to their capacity to build the vehicles on a larger scale, Bryan said that they could most likely “produce six to 10 units a year with their current manpower.”

He added that there will be a limit on the number of models that they would produce and they will make cars on a per-order basis.

“Interiors will be designed based on the client’s demands. One could choose what fabric would be fitted on seats, among others,” he said.

The vehicles that would be produced are much detailed than the prototypes, according to him.

“Even though we built the two prototypes in three months, I tell clients it will take four months before we can turn over the units so we can perfect the details.”

The cars are covered by a one-year warranty. Bryan said they are also looking forward to talking with car companies to see if they can supply brand-new engines.

With ingenuity that is purely Filipino, many are hoping this would not go to waste.

Lambo lookalike

Although the vehicles resemble a Lamborghini, Bryan said Aurelio and Kevin designed the two prototypes, then through “trial and error have made our own mold.” Even now we think that there are a lot of things that we wanted to do with the car but we need more funding to finish them,” he said.

Bryan said the body of their prototype is made of reinforced fiberglass plastic while the chassis is made of tubular steel.

“Many are asking why we did not make the body out of carbon-fiber. We told them we can do that if we have a composite curing system like those available in other countries. And carbon-fiber is much more expensive than fiberglass,” he explained.

Bryan noted that most of the parts used for the cars were locally made.

“Almost 80 percent of the components of the prototypes are made in the Philippines. Only the tires, brake system, transmission, engine and suspension are not made here since we have no resources to make such parts.

“We made our own chassis, body and dashboard, while we found the right collaborators to create the glass, wheels, seats and interiors. The two units are a labor of love, products of sacrifices and dedication. The body was handcrafted and the only machines used were a buffing machine, a grinder and an air compressor for painting,” Bryan said.

Both prototypes have hand-built reinforced fiberglass bodies, steel-tube chassis frames, mid-mounted Mitsubishi 4G63 turbocharged engines, and 18-inch Rota alloy wheels. They have an approximate top speed of 300kph and a claimed power-to-weight ratio of 457hp per ton.

Asked about the price, Bryan said that one of the finished products has a tag between P1.5 million to P1.6 million.

Raising the funds

“We started the company on February 17 this year. Brendan and Kevin were friends for more than five years, and then Kevin introduced Brendan to me about a year ago,” Bryan said.

“I met Brendan in December last year and we discussed how we can collaborate. I have experience in marketing and investment relations. I told them that I will gather the necessary resources that we would be utilizing, raise the funding, and take care of marketing and business relations while Kevin and Brendan will just focus on creating the cars,” he said.

“Our goal is to establish an automotive manufacturing company here in the Philippines. With the right funding and investment, I can start a company that can be the backbone of this country’s economy,” Bryan said.

However, he admitted that it was not easy getting the ample budget for the projects.

“It’s hard to get the funding. It would take months before the bank approves to give it. I also asked someone if they can invest on our ideas. That time, all were just plain ideas and we can’t blame them if they were skeptical,” he recalled.

“I borrowed money from our parents. They supported us and there was a point when we had to pawn some of our possessions just to fund the two prototypes,” the older Factor sibling added.

A Laguna-based company culls together sundry parts, puts them together to form a ‘supercar’

IT is innate in every Filipino to dream big. Living in a country where tragedies happen very often, where going abroad is the first resort in search for greener pastures, the Filipinos’ talent is usually put to good use in other countries.

But a trio of Southerners decided to take their skills and love for cars into a whole new level by putting up a “design-your-own supercar” business.

All from Laguna, siblings Bryan Factor and Kevin Factor, along with Brendan Aurelio, share a passion for cars long before Factor-Aurelio Customs existed. The company produces supercar-inspired vehicles that come at significantly lower prices.

The 25-year-old Bryan said that Aurelio, 37, makes the cars’ designs while younger brother Kevin, 22, is in charge of research regarding the cars’ aerodynamics.

Some had returned to the Astrodome, where thousands sought shelter and dozens drowned during storm surges in the November disaster.

A 25-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a falling electricity pole as Rammasun hit the east coast on Tuesday, the Philippine disaster agency said. A pregnant woman was killed when a house wall collapsed in Lucena City in Quezon province south of the capital.

The Philippine Stock Exchange and Philippine Dealing System, used for foreign exchange trading, were both shut.

More than 200 international and domestic flights have been cancelled.

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-200 suffered a hole on its left wing when wind gusts pushed the aircraft five metres across the tarmac at Manila airport, hitting equipment parked nearby, airport officials said.
