Philippine Daily News / Unrest of Kanlaon Volcano
September 10, 2024, 02:10:27 PM

A series of volcano-tectonic earthquakes have been recorded at Kanlaon Volcano on Monday night, September 9, according to Phivolcs.

"Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) prevails over Kanlaon, but... current seismic activity may lead to eruptive unrest and an increase in the Alert Level," the agency said.

⚠️KANLAON VOLCANO ADVISORY⚠️

9 September 2024

11:30 PM

This is a notice of increased seismic activity at Kanlaon Volcano.

A total of twenty-five (25) volcano-tectonic or VT earthquakes have been recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Network since 8:32 AM this morning, with the last 22 having been recorded beginning 10:35 PM this evening. Canlaon City, Negros Oriental residents report that at least five of these earthquakes were felt. VT earthquakes are generated by rock fracturing processes and the increase in VT activity may possibly precede eruptive activity.

The public is reminded that Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) prevails over Kanlaon, but that current seismic activity may lead to eruptive unrest and an increase in the Alert Level. The public is strongly advised to be ready and vigilant, and to avoid entry into the four (4) kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) to minimize risks from volcanic hazards such as pyroclastic density currents, ballistic projectiles, rockfall and others. In case of ash fall events that may affect communities downwind of Kanlaon's crater, people should cover their nose and mouth with a damp, clean cloth or dust mask. Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano's summit as ash and ballistic fragments from sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft. Communities living beside river systems on the southern and western slopes, especially those that have already experienced lahars and muddy streamflows, are advised to take precautionary measures when heavy rainfall over the volcano has been forecast or has begun.

DOST-PHIVOLCS maintains close monitoring of Kanlaon Volcano and any new development will be immediately communicated to all concerned stakeholders.

The #BoholSea (also known as Mindanao Sea) has a high biodiversity of large marine vertebrates and is considered one of the richest fishing grounds in the country. The coastal communities living around it adapted to this marine environment and at the same time contributed to the changes in the seascape.

The complex interaction between people and their environment is illustrated by the long history of hunting whales, whale sharks, and manta rays by fishers of the coastal towns of Lila, Jagna, and Pamilacan Island in Baclayon.

As such, they have extensive ecological knowledge of the movement and migration of these large marine vertebrates that is integral to their fishing and hunting techniques and beliefs. Knowledge of the phases of the moon, the position of the stars, the direction of the wind, and the movement and behavior of marine life are all incorporated into their ecological knowledge and practices in fishing.

The mangrove areas surrounding the islands and islets are also fishing grounds with a variety of fishes, crustaceans, and shells. Boholano fisherfolks have designed different types of traps for saltwater crabs, mud crabs, and eels; and different types and sizes of nets and cages are woven for fishes in the open sea and rivers.

September is Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA MO!). On display at the museum's #Paglawig gallery are various implements showcasing the ingeniuty of our people in our fishing traditions. We're open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm. Admission and guided tours are free.

History / Inspiring Story of Mr. Michio Suzuki

How a Poor Farmer Became a Car Giant: The Inspiring Story of Mr. Michio Suzuki
Michio Suzuki's journey from a small village farmer to the founder of Suzuki Motor Corporation is a testament to vision, determination, and adaptability.

Born in 1887 in the coastal village of Hamamatsu, Japan, Michio Suzuki grew up in a farming family that worked in cotton production. Despite his modest background, Suzuki was fascinated by machinery from a young age. At 22, he established the Suzuki Loom Works in 1909, creating innovative looms that significantly improved the efficiency of Japan's booming silk industry. His looms became popular due to their high quality and innovative design, and for the next three decades, his business flourished.

While Suzuki's looms were successful, he realized that relying solely on the textile industry was risky. In 1937, he decided to explore new avenues, setting his sights on the automotive sector. He began developing small cars to meet the growing demand for affordable transportation in Japan. However, his plans were interrupted by World War II, which forced the company to pivot back to looms as all non-military production was suspended.

After the war, Suzuki resumed loom production, but the collapse of the cotton industry soon followed, leaving him at a crossroads. Refusing to give up, Suzuki turned to the motorized vehicle industry, a decision that would define his legacy. In 1952, he introduced the "Power Free," a 36cc motorized bicycle that quickly gained popularity due to its affordability and practicality. This success encouraged Suzuki to further explore motor vehicles.

By 1954, the company was rebranded as Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. A year later, it launched the Suzuki Suzulight, a compact car that broke new ground with features like front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering—technologies that were ahead of their time and would set the standard for the industry.

From a humble farmer's son to the visionary behind a global automotive powerhouse, Michio Suzuki's story is one of relentless innovation and resilience. His commitment to making transportation accessible and reliable for everyday people remains at the core of Suzuki Motor Corporation's mission. Although Michio Suzuki passed away in 1982, his impact endures, inspiring future generations of entrepreneurs and innovators

Bible Study / Explanation to Some Bible Verses
September 09, 2024, 05:57:12 AM

1. Men have seen God (Genesis 32:30, Numbers 14:14) vs. No man has seen God (John 1:18):
   - Genesis 32:30 refers to Jacob saying he had seen God "face to face" after wrestling with a divine being, but this is understood to be either a theophany (an appearance of God in a form or vision) or an angelic representation.
   - Numbers 14:14 is referencing the glory and presence of God, not His actual, full essence.
   - John 1:18 is talking about seeing God in His full, infinite nature. God's full essence is beyond human ability to see directly, which is consistent with the idea that no one has seen God in His complete nature, though He reveals Himself in various ways (theophanies, angels, etc.).

2. God doesn't keep anger forever (Jeremiah 3:12) vs. God keeps anger forever (Jeremiah 17:4):
   - In Jeremiah 3:12, God is inviting Israel to repent, promising that His anger will not last if they return to Him. It's about God's readiness to forgive.
   - Jeremiah 17:4 describes a specific instance of judgment where God's anger remains due to ongoing unrepentant sin. It's important to understand context: God's anger is conditional and depends on repentance and His plan for justice.

3. God creates man, then animals (Genesis 2:7, 19) vs. God creates animals, then man (Genesis 1:24-27):
   - Genesis 1 provides an overall chronological order of creation, where animals are created first and man last.
   - Genesis 2 focuses more on the relationship between man and his surroundings, with the creation of animals presented in the context of Adam naming them, not necessarily implying a chronological contradiction but focusing on Adam's role in creation.

4. Man can be righteous (Genesis 7:1, Job 2:3, James 5:16) vs. Man can't be righteous (Romans 3:10):
   - Genesis 7:1, Job 2:3, and James 5:16 refer to righteousness in a relative, earthly sense. Noah, Job, and others are called righteous because they lived faithfully before God compared to their contemporaries.
   - Romans 3:10, however, speaks of ultimate righteousness in relation to God's perfect standard. Paul is making the point that no one is inherently righteous in the absolute, sinless sense — this is why humanity needs a Savior.

5. Two blind men healed on the road (Matthew 20:29) vs. One blind man healed on the road (Mark 10:46-47):
   - Matthew provides more details by mentioning two blind men, while Mark focuses on one (Bartimaeus), likely because Bartimaeus was the more vocal or prominent of the two. These are not contradictions but complementary accounts focusing on different aspects of the event.

These examples are not true contradictions but reflect differences in focus, context, or perspective. The Bible is a complex collection of books written in different styles, often providing complementary details to enhance understanding rather than contradict one another.

Remember, if you take the context out of the text, you're left with a CON.

Business and Economy / Jeff Bezos Mansion
September 08, 2024, 07:48:36 PM
A Palacial Third Home in Indian Creek Island, Florida, near to Tom Brady, is purchased by Jeff Bezos for $90 million. Images of the house in the remarks. Bezos seems to adore Indian Creek Island and spending time with America's elite. In 2023, Bezos intends to demolish the other two properties he bought on the island and move into the recently acquired house. He spent $68 million for a three-bedroom, 9,300-square-foot house in June 2023. Bezos paid $79 million in November 2023 for the purchase of a second mansion, a 23,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom home on 80,000 square feet of land. With this most recent acquisition, Bezos has come to possess three of the roughly forty residences on the prestigious 300-acre Indian Creek Island, sometimes referred to as "Billionaire Bunker". Family & Parenting / Shaquille O'Neal Principle
September 08, 2024, 10:39:55 AM

Despite his billion-dollar fortune, Shaquille O'Neal does not give money to his children: "We ain't rich. I'm rich." I can relate to this mindset. My kids know this. When you come from nothing, you get it.

The former NBA player stated that his children need to work to make money.

"I tell them all the time. We ain't rich. I'm rich," he said.

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal dismissed any kind of financial help for his children during a recent interview on the financial podcast "Earn Your Leisure."

"My kids are older now. They're kinda upset with me. Not really upset, but they don't understand. I tell them all the time. We ain't rich. I'm rich." O'Neal said while detailing his parenting philosophy on the podcast.

The former Lakers center, who played for six different NBA teams and earned over $10 million per season from 1999 to 2009, stated that he hoped his children would go to college and graduate, and that if they created a business he could realistically invest in, only then would he give them some money.

"You gotta have bachelor's or master's [degrees], and then if you want me to invest in one of your companies, you're going to have to present it, boom boom boom, bring it to me. I'll let you know, I'm not giving you nothing." he said.

Later, the 52-year-old added that the number one rule he has for his children is "education."

"I don't care if you play basketball. I don't care about none of that," he said. "Listen, I have six kids.

I would like a doctor, someone who owns a hedge fund, a pharmacist, a lawyer, someone who owns multiple businesses, someone to take over my business. But I tell them I'm not giving this to you. You have to earn it."

History / Why Leaning Tower of Pisa
September 01, 2024, 04:30:41 PM

Did you ever know that the Leaning Tower of Pisa is empty from the inside and not a multi-story residential tower?!
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
It is a cathedral bell tower in the Italian city of Pisa, built in the Field of Miracles.
Let's get acquainted with the Leaning Tower of Pisa from a structural point of view:
Its construction began in 1173 AD and they began to establish the bases and then the walls, and after the building reached the third floor, it was noticed that there was a slope.
Can you imagine that a tower weighing 14,500 tons is built on foundations 3 m deep and installed on sand and silt?!!
After discovering the slope, the engineers built the rest of the floors (external walls) so that the height of the floor in the inclined direction is greater than its height in the other direction.
Which increased the inclination of the tower due to the sinking of the foundations in a greater proportion in the soil, due to the increase in the weight of the floors.
Among the reasons why the tower did not collapse:
The construction continued for 199 years, and the construction halt in it for a long time is one of the reasons that allowed the soil to compact, which reduced the rate of inclination, and thus the tower did not collapse completely.
The clay soil helped and the main reason for the tower's tendency not to collapse and its resilience in front of 4 earthquakes.
The engineers calculated the center of gravity of the tower, and it was concluded from the calculations that the tower collapsed completely upon reaching a slope of 5.44 degrees.  The tower was closed in 1990 at a tilt of 5.5 degrees, yet the tower did not collapse.
Attempts made to stop the tilt of the tower and not collapse:
Digging deep holes in the ground at a depth of 40 m, and installing the tower with iron cables through the holes.  Liquid nitrogen was pumped, which led to the freezing of water in the soil and its expansion and contraction again, which led to the subsidence of the soil and the subsidence of the foundations, and consequently the slope of the tower at the rate of its inclination throughout these years.
They dug 361 holes and injected the soil with 90 tons of cement, which led to the tower's tilt strongly.
And finally, Soil Extraction was used in 1990:
The soil was removed from the non-slanted side so that the tower tilts in that direction, then iron cables were used to fix the tower bases in the ground and the slope was reduced to 4 bikes, and this was what it was at the beginning.
The engineers could have made it vertical, but they didn't want to lose its fame and tourist value because of its tilt.
And after that was completed, the tower was opened.
And it was confirmed that the tower could endure without any collapse for 300 years.

Philippine Travel and Tourism / The Burnt Toast Theory
August 28, 2024, 11:10:01 AM

THE BURNT TOAST THEORY
When things don't go your way...
Last February, I had a flight out of Sydney that was cancelled several minutes after we were asked to get ready for boarding. The airline management announced that their engineer couldn't get the aircraft to operate.
We were the only passengers left in the terminal. The airport had literally closed for the day already. You probably don't know this but Sydney International Airport has a curfew for flights. No aircraft is allowed to fly in and out between 11PM and 6AM.
We were asked to go through immigration again and then proceeded to collect our luggages. Afterwhich, we were given Uber vouchers so that we can all go home for the night.
Everyone started to be grumpy. Well, as expected.
But my first thought was "thank God they managed to identify the operational/technical issue of the aircraft before asking us to board and eventually take off."
This is where the Burnt Toast Theory comes in. It suggests that when delays happen or when things don't go as planned, it could actually be a blessing in disguise. Those major or minor life's inconveniences might actually be protecting you from something.
Essentially, if you burn your toast in the morning (something challenging happens), the time you spend making another slice may have saved you from a car accident or something bad.
Or maybe it causes you to be late for a meeting, but as you stroll in, you cross paths with someone who will become incredibly meaningful in your life that you wouldn't have met otherwise.
It's kind of like the universe always has your back.
As what I always tell myself:
If you get what you want, that is God's direction. If you do not get what you want, that is God's protection. You may not understand His ways but you just have to trust His will.
So the next time things don't go your way, always remember that you are being redirected to something better.
Love and light 🫶✨

August 27, 2024, 06:56:29 PM

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. was presented with the 7,500-Piso Gold and 750-Piso Silver commemorative coins by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. on 27 August 2024 at Malacañang, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of central banking in the Philippines.

The obverse side of both the gold and silver non-circulation legal tender coins features the Intendencia, also known as the Aduana Building, located in Intramuros, Manila. This building served as the first headquarters of the Central Bank of the Philippines.

On the reverse side, the coins show markings of the year "1949," the 75th-anniversary logo in color, the inscription "CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF CENTRAL BANKING IN THE PHILIPPINES," the BSP Seal, and the year "2024."

The designs highlight the diamond anniversary, marking 75 years of central banking in the country.

The BSP minted these coins with a mirror-like finish, utilizing the latest digital printing technology.

ALICE GUO POSSIBLY HEADING TO GOLDEN TRIANGLE – ANTI-CRIME COMMISSION

DISMISSED Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is possibly heading to the Golden Triangle in mainland Asia where her family has business interests, according to Winston Casio, spokesman of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).

Casio made the remark when asked during a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday about the possibility that Guo would go to China.

"No," Casio stressed. "She (Guo) will definitely not go to China in as much as she is already a person of interest as far as China's concerned because she's accused of a serious crime in the Philippines in relation to illegal gambling – and we know how strict China is in relation to gambling in their own territory. So, definitely, she would not be heading to any of those territories."

"Now, what is the feasible territory that she would head into? As the, as the commission is concerned, as far as the PAOCC is concerned, we're confident that she's trying to get into the Golden Triangle because the family, the Guo Family has business interest, gambling interests in Cambodia. So, that would be the safest bet that we have as of this moment," Casio added.

Casio was referring to the "Golden Triangle" — an area of about 367,000 square miles located in South Asia. It is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, according to the World Atlas.

Although Cambodia is not part of the Golden Triangle, it borders Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the north, Vietnam to the east, and has a coastline along the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, according to data.

Casio also said a fugitive would not dare enter countries where there is an extradition treaty.

"If I am a criminal from the Philippines, I will not go to countries where extradition between that territory and the Philippines exists and I will not go to territories that are party to the international... to the United Nations... UNTOC so to speak, United Nations Convention on Transnational Crime. I will never go to those places kasi madali po akong ibabalik," Casio said.

Meanwhile, the government is trying to determine exactly where Guo will land, as the Golden Triangle is considered a very porous area for transnational organized crimes, he said.

"It depends where in the Golden Triangle she will land...So, the Golden Triangle, those countries are very porous in boundaries as I imagined and we know what the Golden Triangle entails when we talk about transnational organized crime," Casio said.

PAOCC VOWS TO PURSUE INCARCERATION OF GUO, COHORTS

THE Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) on Saturday vowed to pursue the incarceration of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and her cohorts in the Philippines amid challenges in bringing them to justice.

PAOCC spokesman Dr. Winston Casio made the remark after entertaining the possibility that Guo and her cohorts might escape imprisonment in the country if their passports and nationalities were canceled and revoked, respectively.

Despite this, however, the PAOCC is confident it can send the high-profile fugitives to Philippine jail and make them answer for their crimes against the Filipinos.

In a news forum in Quezon City, Casio explained that canceling the passports and revoking the nationalities of Guo and her cohorts might place them under the protection of international law.

PAOCC spokesman Dr. Winston Casio said Guo and her cohorts might "fall under the framework of the United Nations Commission for Refugees" if their passports were canceled and "they would become stateless individuals."

"They would become refugees, and they would fall under the framework of the United Nations Commission for Refugees because they would take on a different legal character, and they would be protected by that legal character," Casio pointed out.

Casio said that fugitives Guo and her cohorts, once captured, should be incarcerated in the Philippines.

"As far as the Commission is concerned, and as far as our team with IACAT (Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking) is concerned, we would want them to be incarcerated in the Philippines to answer for all their crimes in the country," he said.

According to intelligence reports, Alice Guo, Sheila Guo, and Cassandra Ong entered Indonesia via a cruise ship from Singapore.

On Tuesday, August 20, Ong and Sheila Guo were arrested in Riau, Indonesia, while Alice was believed to have escaped.

Casio said the dismissed Bamban mayor may have taken refuge in the Golden Triangle, where her family has business interests.

Meanwhile, the Senate is set to receive Ong and Sheila Guo for a scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Justice on Aug. 27.

Pastor Quiboloy and Senator Lacson Cases; 'No laws broken for turning fugitive from justice'

With the current display of abuse of authority by the Marcos Administration in illegally occupying the KOJC property against the will of its owners, the members of the religious group, people have now realized that indeed, the good pastor is within his right to evade arrest for fear of being unjustly exterminated.

And aside from presumptive divine protection, the law maybe also on the side of PACQ, citing the Lacson case here.

In 2010, then incumbent Senator Panfilo Lacson informed his colleagues in the Senate that he will go into hiding with the impending filing of criminal case against him by the DOJ on the double murder of publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver, Corbito in 2000. Lacson's reason of going fugitive from justice echoes that of PACQ - "For now, my concern is my own personal safety and security. I will not allow Mrs. Arroyo and her cohorts in the DOJ the pleasure of seeing my life miserable and in danger. This is one case that I will dispute the argument – flight is an indication of guilt. I am not guilty but I cannot risk putting my life and security at the mercy of that evil conspiracy," Lacson said.

Just like PACQ to Marcos, Lacson was then a fierce critique of the Arroyo Administration, exposing the administration's corruption and other anomalies that GMA and her cohorts perpetrated against the interest of the Filipino people. He knew that the case filed against him by the DOJ was obviously politically motivated and that his arrest was designed to silence him for good. Hence, he left the country just few days before the warrant for his arrest was issued on 5 February 2010 by a court in Manila.

While into hiding abroad and notwithstanding the issuance of red notice on him by the Interpol, Lacson's case proceeded in the country with his lawyers availing of all legal remedies until the Court of Appeals decided to nullify the warrant for his arrest and dismissed the murder case against him. Such CA decision was affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2011.

So, after 15 months into hiding, Lacson came back to the country victorious on his case, and then sought the permission of the Senate leadership to open his office which then Senate President Enrile gladly obliged, and voila, his colleagues embraced him back. He maintained that he did not violate any laws when he refused to be placed physically under the custody of the law enforcers he suspects of killing him and chose to fight his legal battles instead while on the run. People supported his actions as can be affirmed when he ran for reelection in the senate and won again, and even gave a shot a the Presidency despite his indelible mark as once 'fugitive from justice'.

There is no doubt, Lacson is a prominent politician who is incomparable to PACQ - an ordinary leader of a religious organization called KOJC. But PGMA did not mobilize more than 3 thousand PNP personnel to hunt him down, nor did she put a 10M bounty on Lacson's head or cancel his passport. She knew, such will be viewed as a display of unnecessary force which would boomerang on her.

What makes PACQ extra special insofar as the administration is concerned is not only his being a fierce critique of the administration but it is his association with the Duterte's who are now poised to become this administration's political nemesis. Moreover, Uncle Sam wants PACQ's head delivered on a silver platter to the US for which Marcos must have graciously promised in a preposterous display of this government's subservience to foreign dictates in exchange of personal favor for PBBM.

Obviously, the cases filed against PACQ is politically motivated. Aside from being recycled, interested parties salivating on his head for monetary considerations or whatever, have made their intentions clear – to exterminate him at all costs. This has prompted PACQ therefore to do the Lacson option. He is not violating or avoiding the law. He is facing the cases in court squarely with his lawyers but refused to be killed as a sure consequence for his arrest.

What is going on in Davao City can be a trap for the Duterte's and this has been carefully hatched by the Marcos administration. The act of illegally occupying the KOJC premises using such horrendous amount of PNP force is actually an act of provoking the Dutertes. General Torre is under instruction to search every corner of the KOJC premises and once PACQ is found within the compound, he will definitely be executed and since FPRRD is the administrator of the KOJC properties, he will then be facing cases of harboring a fugitive from justice and obstruction.

General Torre seems to challenge Mayor Baste to make his moves along with the local PNP officials in defending the oppressed Davaoenos which would justify the administration in filing cases against the mayor or arresting him depending on the gravity of his actions. This is the reason why General Torre decided to get PNP forces from other regions so that when fighting erupts, and the local PNP forces depict to the side of the Mayor, he thinks that PNP forces from other regions are his dogs willing to fight alongside himself. I wonder how these PNP forces take Torre's conviction on their supposed blind loyalty to him.

Of course, they also want to see VP Sara and cong. Pulong to join the fray and this would give the lapdogs of Marcos in Congress the needed ammo to file impeachment complaint against her and in the case of Pulong, a complaint in the Marcos-controlled ethics committee in the House of Crocs to finally get rid of him.

This is the one-shot deal scenario which Marcos Jr and his cohorts are hoping to elicit from this Davao brouhaha. And the template we are looking at is reminiscent of what Marcos Sr. did during his dictatorial regime. Remember Ninoy? He was killed in NAIA Tarmac on August 21, 1983, under the watch of security forces deployed by PBBM's father to protect Ninoy upon his arrival in Manila. All Marcos Sr. did was to deny a hand in Ninoy's assassination and just ordered an investigation thereon. And you know what happened four decades after? Nothing.

This is the dreaded murderous template which PBBM will be using in annihilating his political opponents from Davao City. Once successful, this will send chilling effect to other areas for other would-be political enemies to stand down in the name of expediency and thereby, paving the way for the Marcos' perpetuation into power for as long as they want. Worst, the total silence of the mainstream media on the abuses of General Torre in occupying the KOJC premises is an ominous warning that the oligarch-owned media companies are now also controlled by PBBM, thus leaving the people with no choice but to rely on social media for truthful information on what is going on in the country.

But the Dutertes are not born yesterday. Their calculated moves in the face of these provoking actions from the government have rendered this Marcos trap inutile and is doomed to fail.

General Torre was constantly on the phone, getting orders from someone on every move he made in the course of illegally occupying the KOJC premises. Torre reports to the Chief PNP, therefore, General Marbil must have called the shot on his actions. But General Marbil reports to Secretary Abalos of DILG who has been eager with gnashing teeth to get the head of PACQ. Therefore, Abalos gives the order to General Torre.

But ultimately, Abalos is an alter ego of PBBM and the former cannot order something on the ground sans the blessings of the latter, his principal. Ergo, the main architect and in fact, the culprit who is directly accountable by command responsibility of the on-going oppressive actions of the police force in the KOJC is no less than PBBM. His continued silence notwithstanding the death, damages and chaos Torre has inflicted in Davao City reinforces the suspicion that indeed, he is behind everything that is bungled big time on the ground.

To the KOJC members, we are with you in these difficult times. While we condemn the oppressive treatment, the bastardization of your compound which you hold sacred, and damages this administration has inflicted in your organization, let us maintain our calmness and be guided by your faith in driving away these evils from your premises. We continue to pray for the safety of PACQ and may those who harbor him be given the strength and guidance to avoid authorities from arresting him and then kill him in the process. This is a trap which all of us should endeavor to prevent this administration from securing a justification to perpetuate themselves in power.

We also pray for the Duterte's to be discerning and circumspect in their actions as they try to defend the people of Davao and the rest of the country in the face of the bait laid upon them by this administration, leading to the Dutertes' political demise. Let us also pray for the innocent PNP forces from other regions in Mindanao who are being used by the Marcos administration to fight against the local PNP forces in Davao. May they be guided not to succumb to the demonic pressures of shedding bloodshed among Mindanaon police forces on instruction of their commander-in-chief holding the baton from his ivory tower in Luzon, watching us, Mindanaons, killing each other.

The KOJC unfortunate incident is a boiling point that should force every sane Filipino citizen to start speaking up at this early sighting of an impending dictatorship driven by greed and evil desire to perpetuate himself and his family and allies into power. We should slap them with our strong abhorrence to the idea of resurrecting the Marcos Sr. dictatorship template from being applied in the current dispensation by his son. If need be, we should excavate that template from the Libingan ng mga Bayani and bury it back in Hawaii with whoever attempts to use that template to show our disgust. Never again!

Lastly, I wish to share the apologies offered by VP Sara Duterte for those people whom she convinced to help campaign and vote for PBBM in the 2022 Presidential elections. Such apology is timely and warranted.

I too, have deeply regretted my actions. And for that, I am sorry for convincing you to campaign and vote for PBBM in the last 2022 Presidential Elections. – Jun Avelino

General Topic / Desire vs Effort
August 23, 2024, 10:23:30 AM

"My life did not give me what I wanted, it gave me what I worked for," reflects a powerful message about effort, determination, and the reality of achieving goals.

Breaking Down the Quote
Desire vs. Effort:

The quote distinguishes between wanting something and actually working for it. It emphasizes that simply desiring something is not enough to achieve it. Life doesn't hand out rewards based on what we wish for; instead, it responds to the effort and work we put in. This is a reminder that success and fulfillment are the results of consistent effort rather than mere wishful thinking.
Reality of Achievement:

It acknowledges the reality that life is not always fair or easy. What we want may not always align with what we get, unless we are willing to work hard for it. This perspective encourages a proactive approach to life, where individuals take responsibility for their outcomes rather than relying on luck or external factors.
The Importance of Hard Work:

The quote underscores the value of hard work and perseverance. It suggests that the key to obtaining what we want in life lies in our willingness to put in the necessary effort. This idea resonates with the concept of meritocracy, where one's achievements are seen as a direct result of their hard work and dedication.
Personal Accountability:

By stating that life gave the speaker "what I worked for," the quote also touches on personal accountability. It suggests that our achievements, or lack thereof, are largely within our control. This viewpoint encourages self-reflection on whether we are truly putting in the effort required to reach our goals.
Encouragement to Take Action:

The quote can serve as motivation for those who feel that they are not where they want to be in life. It encourages taking action, setting goals, and working diligently towards them, rather than passively hoping for things to happen.

Showbiz & Celebrity / Al Pacino
August 20, 2024, 02:22:43 PM

When actor Al Pacino was two years old, his parents divorced and his mom, Rose, moved with her son to her parents' home near the Bronx Zoo. It was a tough childhood in some ways—money was tight, for one thing. But in an interview with The Telegraph, Pacino remembers how his mother would take him to the movies; when they got home, the boy would act out parts from the films they'd seen, including a terrific impression of the alcoholic portrayed by Ray Milland in The Lost Weekend. "It was kind of a strange thing to bring a little kid to, no?" he says. "But it had an effect." At one point, Pacino's mother encouraged his interest in the theater. "She even took me to see a couple of Broadway plays," he remembered in a 1973 interview with The Los Angeles Times. "I truly believe it was because of my mother that I never went the way of my friends—I saw two close friends die from drugs." Rose and her son did not always agree: when Pacino dropped out of school, he and his mom had an argument, prompting him to leave home. But he still held himself responsible for the family. He moved to Greenwich Village and took low-paying jobs in order to support Rose, whose health was shaky at best. "I kept telling my mother I'd soon be doing something big, that I'd met a person who was going to make me a real draftsman," he remembered in The Los Angeles Times piece. "I said that because I thought 'draftsman' sounded very important." Pacino was in his early 20s when his mother died of a heart attack. He had just starting to make his way as an actor in tiny Greenwich Village theater productions. Yet even years later, he remembered and missed things about her. He told The Los Angeles Times, "The thing I miss most is that thing of having people look me in the eye in a certain way, the way your mother looks at you, no matter what you've done."— Al Pacino ❤️

General Topic / Distraction Greatest Killer of Success
August 19, 2024, 08:23:09 AM

BY AGE 40  YOU SHOULD BE SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THIS:

1. Someone makes 10x more than you do in a 9-5 job because they have more "leverage" with their work.

2. Distraction is the greatest killer of success. It stunts and destroys your brain.

3. You shouldn't take advice from people who are not where you want to be in life.

4. No one is coming to save your problems. Your life's 100% your responsibility.

5. You don't need 100 self-help books, all you need is action and self discipline.

6. Unless you went to college to learn a specific skill (ie. doctor, engineer, lawyer), you can make more money in the next 90 days just learning sales.

7. No one cares about you. So stop being shy, go out and create your chances.

8. If you find someone smarter than you, work with them, don't compete.

9. Smoking has 0 benefit in your life. This habit will only slow your thinking and lower your focus.

10. Comfort is the worst addiction and cheap ticket to depression.

11. Don't tell people more than they need to know, respect your privacy.

12. Avoid alcohol at all cost. Nothing worse than losing your senses and acting a fool.

13. Keep your standards high and don't settle for something because it's available.

14. The family you create is more important than the family you come from.

15. Train yourself to take nothing personally to save yourself from 99.99% of mental problems.

Internet and World Wide Web / Josef Koudelka
August 17, 2024, 03:57:37 PM

Josef Koudelka is a fiercely independent artist. Branded an exile, stateless for many years after the end of the Prague Spring, photography is for him a powerful act that shows both humanity and its unsettling strangeness. His images are imbued with bohemian freedom and a dull, inhospitable promise. So when he was asked to go and photograph in Israel, the fear of being politically exploited, the fact of having to accept his designated young guide (to control him? he wondered)... mistrust almost won out. It was overcome by a mixture of rejection of "the wall" and attraction for this symbolic land. He simply insisted on paying for his own plane ticket, so as not to owe anything to anyone. What happened next, between him and his young guide Gilad Baram, is a truly romantic story. A friendship was born between the old photographer and the young filmmaker. Gilad Baram had the intelligence to turn these moments into a magnificent film, adopting the right distance and documenting the work of this demanding photographer.

🔎 What you will learn in this film...
The 120 film format used for panoramic shots • Koudelka's relationship with the landscape • The Israeli separation barrier • The symbolic traces of man • The landscape in black and white • Approaching a place, scouting for an angle

15 Lessons from the book titled: Emotionomics: Winning Hearts and Minds by Dan Hill

1. Emotions affect our economic decision-making.
When we make economic decisions, we are not just making rational choices based on facts and figures. We are also influenced by our emotions. For example, we may be more likely to purchase a product if we are feeling happy or excited, and we may be more likely to avoid a product if we are feeling scared or anxious.

2. Emotions can be used to manipulate our economic behavior.
Businesses and advertisers understand the power of emotions, and they often use them to influence our purchasing decisions. For example, they may create ads that evoke positive emotions, such as happiness or excitement, or they may use negative emotions, such as fear or anxiety, to create a sense of urgency.

3. Emotions can lead to irrational economic behavior.
In some cases, our emotions can lead us to make irrational economic decisions. For example, we may spend more money than we can afford on a product because we are feeling happy or excited, or we may avoid making a sound investment because we are feeling scared or anxious.

4. It is important to be aware of how emotions affect our economic decision-making.
The first step to overcoming the influence of emotions on our economic behavior is to be aware of how they affect us. Once we are aware of our emotional biases, we can start to take steps to control them.

5. We can use cognitive reappraisal to change our emotional responses.
Cognitive reappraisal is a technique that involves reinterpreting a situation in a way that changes our emotional response to it. For example, if we are feeling scared about making an investment, we can try to reframe the situation as an opportunity to learn and grow.

6. We can use emotional regulation techniques to manage our emotions.
There are a number of emotional regulation techniques that can help us manage our emotions and make more rational decisions. Some common techniques include relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, and distraction techniques, such as listening to music or reading a book.

7. We can educate ourselves about personal finance.
The more we know about personal finance, the better equipped we will be to make sound economic decisions. By learning about budgeting, saving, and investing, we can reduce the impact of emotions on our financial choices.

THE BEST GIFT YOU CAN GIVE TO YOUR CHILD

1. QUALITY TIME
Your presence is needed. Provision is also in providing time

2. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
Show your child no judgment, no rejection or that he/she has to do certain things to earn your love. Don't compare your child with others

3. SPACE TO GROW
Allow your child to grow into the phases of life. Don't expect your child to reason like you yet you have more experience. Don't rob your child his/her childhood or teenagehood. Let your child curve his/her own identity

4. A STABLE HOME
Nothing stresses a child more than a home where mom and dad are in turmoil; or where a single parent is erratic and abusive. Give your child a safe haven

5. UNITY
Parent together as a couple. Show your child teamwork

6. DISPLAY OF SUPPORT
Deliberately do things to show support such as cheering on, giving of success cards, bragging about your child in public, being present in landmark moments and affirming your child

7. A VISION
Guide your child into having a vision. A vision is your child's why. Why go to school, why work hard, why pursue goals? Don't just tell your child what to do, help him/her get their personal why

8. ENCOURAGEMENT
Be your child's biggest cheerleader. When he/she falls, help the child up. Be your child's inspiration

9. DISCERNMENT
Cultivate a value system in your child so that he/she can choose what is right even in moments you are not around

10. DISCIPLINE
Teach your child self-control, how to stay the course. Self-control is a muscle, the more your child practice it, the better your child becomes at it

11. A GOOD EDUCATION
Take your child to the best schools you can afford, if you are able to get a sponsorship, do it. Buy books and share content that builds, if you give your child a digital device, direct your child to sites that lead to growth. Make learning fun. Expose your child to different ideas through travel, push boundaries

12. PRODUCTIVE TRADITION
Every family has its own traditions, make sure you only practice what is good for the family and the child. Not every aspect of man-made culture should be transferred to the next generation

13. PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING
Don't give up on your child, be aware that nurturing takes time. Don't expect too much too soon. Avoid driving your child into depression to impress you

14. A LISTENING EAR
You should be the first person your child runs to. Be easy to talk to. Be approachable. Far too many children are suffering in silence yet with parents

15. WISDOM
Share with your children life lessons you have picked along the way. Your children shouldn't struggle the way you did or make the mistakes you did

16. FOND MEMORIES
Family is about shared experiences, give your child good ones; not trauma

17. A HOLISTIC FOUNDATION
Show your child life is more than good grades. Teach your child how to handle and create wealth, how to socialize, how to be emotionally intelligent, how to solve problems, how to grow close to God, how to take care of his/her body. Raise him/her whole

18. A GOOD COMMUNITY
Surround your child with the right type of people; this means choosing friends who are pro-family, friends who are good role models, friends who can mentor and be a good connection for your child

19. INHERITANCE
Give your child a headstart in life, store up value to hand over to your child

20. A GOOD NAME
Live honorably so that your child will be proud to call him/herself yours

Sen. Robinhood Padilla underscored the importance of laws that would ensure the rights of every gender particularly on cases of sexual harassment happening in the work place.

During the continuation of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media's inquiry into the policies of television networks and artist management agencies regarding abuse and harassment complaints Thursday, August 15, 2024, Padilla stated that the committee aimed to clarify whether existing sexual harassment laws disproportionately favor women due to the misconception that men cannot be victims of rape.

Padilla expressed hope that the committee, with the input from resource persons, would be able to develop new measures or amend existing laws on sexual harassment and rape to guarantee equal rights for all genders.

DAVID NEPOMUCENO, THE FIRST FILIPINO OLYMPIAN | David Nepomuceno (May 9, 1900 – September 27, 1939) a native of Oas, Albay, was the first Filipino to compete in the Olympics. He was a runner and the sole representative of the Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

When the Philippines joined the International Olympic Committee in 1918, the requisite for the country's acceptance was the participation of a Filipino athlete at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The Philippines debuted in the 1924 Paris Games with a one-athlete, one official delegation. It was one of the 44 countries that participated. David Nepomuceno's fame as a sprint specialist led to his selection as the first Filipino—and Southeast Asian—athlete ever sent to the Olympics.

Nepomuceno and National Physical director Dr. Regino Ylanan took a 33-day boat ride from Manila to Marseilles then went to Paris in a train, arriving a week before the Olympics. A Philippine Scout, he competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter heats in Paris. He never made it beyond the trials. In the 100-meter heat, Nepomuceno finished fourth, outsprinting a Swede and a Czech. He was dead last in the 200-meter dash. Nepomuceno blamed the grueling ocean trip for failing to survive the heats. Although he lost in his only Olympic appearance, Nepomuceno is in the record books as the pioneer Filipino to compete in the quadrennial spectacle.

Unfortunately he was never again given the chance to compete at another Olympics. He was a soldier who served in the Philippine Scouts and eventually, the United States Navy.

He died on September 27, 1939 at the young age of 39.

Philippine Daily News / SSS Membership Coverage Drive
August 15, 2024, 01:35:05 PM

The SSS membership coverage drive has significantly outperformed expectations for this year. SSS President and CEO Rolando Ledesma Macasaet praised the exceptional efforts of branches that have not only met but exceeded their targets ahead of schedule.

Leading the charge among Mega and Large branches are Dagupan, Lapu-Lapu, Iloilo-Central, Davao, and Cebu. These branches, managed by Primitivo D. Verania, Jr., Sheila Marie V. Abad, Eva J. Cura, Alnora Presbiterio, and Eric Coronado, respectively, have demonstrated outstanding results.

In NCR Operations, the Pasay-CCP Complex, Navotas, Deparo, and Tanay branches, under the leadership of Daniel T. Caput, Jeanne Hellane Ifurung, Ma. Consuelo S. Castillejos, and Jeffrey D. Pascual, also delivered impressive performances.

Among the overall top performers, the Koronadal, Mati, Baler, Catbalogan, and Batangas branches stood out, exceeding their targets by over 230%. These branches are led by Jose Froilan M. Garcia, Sharon M. Porlares, Christian C. Catacutan, Aileen A. Olaran, and Tiffany B. Lobo.

This year, SSS set a goal to register 2 million new members. By July 2024, the organization had already surpassed this goal, registering 2.4 million new members—an achievement representing 122.4% of the target.

SSS Management commends these branches for their relentless dedication to expanding membership, in alignment with the institution's mission to broaden coverage, particularly among self-employed individuals and those in the informal sector.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) on the registered owner of a Toyota Vios which was shown parked on a bike lane in a viral video.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said an investigation is now being conducted to determine if the registered owner of the vehicle was the same person who parked the car in a clearly no parking area.

"Ito po ay pambabastos sa ating mga kasamahan sa bicycle rider community at nagpapakita ng kawalan ng disiplina. Yung paninidigan mo pa ang maling gawain ay talagang abusado na yun," said Assec Mendoza.

In the SCO signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division head Renante Militante, the vehicle, with license plate DAM 3820 obstructed the passage of bikers.

The driver was also seen in the video ignoring the comment of the person who took the video and even dared the letter to continue filming his errant behavior.

The driver was also heard justifying his behavior by saying that he was just waiting for his family.

"In connection thereto, you and the involved driver, are directed to appear at the Intelligence and Investigation Division, Land Transportation Office, East Avenue, QuezonCity, on 26 August 2024 at 1:00 P.M," the SCO read.

The registered owner was also asked to submit a comment or explanation as to why he should not be administratively charged in connection with the abovementioned incident.

"Failure to appear and submit the written comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your right to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand," the SCO read. #
