SOLON ASKS DOTr TO REVIEW LTFRB DECISION RAISING TAXI FARE
I suggest that the Department of Transportation to review the latest decision of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to raise taxi fare rates.
The P13.50 additional to the flagdown is too high. The P2.00 running/waiting time rate is reasonable.
With the new rates, a five-kilometer trip with 10 minutes of waiting time would cost the passenger P127.50. (P40 + P67.50 + P20).
There should be a provision that requires taxi operators and taxi drivers to make sure the taxis are clean and roadworthy and that taxi drivers be courteous and helpful to their passengers.
Higher taxi fares could make their services unaffordable to many among the riding public who cannot afford the higher rates of the TNCs.
The higher fares could also make some commuters choose to ride the TNCs instead of the taxis.
