Boy Abunda: A Cabinet Member?
« on: June 01, 2010, 03:26:24 PM »
By KRIS BAYOS
Manila Bulletin

President-apparent Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III said on Monday he is seriously considering television talk show host Boy Abunda to serve in government if he is willing to sacrifice his career in show business and divest interest from the private sector.

Although Aquino did not name the office where he could possibly appoint Abunda, he hinted that the television host's communication skills and marketing expertise can be utilized in tourism and foreign affairs, citing Abunda's taking of a Masteral Degree in International Relations on Public Diplomacy at the Philippine Women's University.

Eugenio Abunda Jr., in real life, the talk show host underwent seminary formation at the University of Santo Tomas and attended college at the Ateneo de Manila University for Business Management, which he failed to finish.

But Aquino said asking Abunda to serve in public office will be a challenge considering the compensation Abunda gets from being a television personality and a talent manager.

I would rather have Boy Abunda as the Tourism secretary rather than some politician.

Boy is a very intelligent person. He has no bad record in showbiz. So, why not? I think, it's a good idea.

This is interesting to read about, Mike. I discussed this with my father earlier this week and we both agree that Mr. Abunda is, indeed, a proficient public speaker. Whatever his decision is, his talent in the public state is noteworthy. I also recently found out from my father that Abunda is Visayan. Apparently the man is from Samar-Leyte.

Or he could just be pragmatic. And has done his math--and social studies, for that matter.

korek, Lindy. Besides, who are we to judge Boy Abunda? Ingon na ba jud mo ka close nya?  ;D :) :D

assessing, not judging i hope, as we express our opinions about a potential public official bruited about as qualified to take on a high office.  we're not close to our presidents either, but as ordinary citizens we have a thing or two to say about them.

abundia as cabinet secretary?  well, maybe nothing is ever strange anymore.  there's lito lapid in the senate, lani mercado in congress (109 celebrities ran for public office in the last elections!), joseph estrada as ex-president, so why not richard gomez as ambassador to the united states?

how great can our country be?  showbiz people take on the reins of government and professionals leave to work abroad.

He he, niay nindot nga balak nga akong gipahinungod sa umaabot nga mga miyembro sa Gabinete ni Noynoy...

On the birth of his son

Families, when a child is born
Want it to be intelligent.
I, through intelligence,
Having wrecked my whole life,
Only hope the baby will prove
Ignorant and stupid.
Then he will crown a tranquil life
By becoming a Cabinet Minister.

right on!  imagine if there was truth in that he is also being considered for foreign affairs.  while all cabinet secretaries are equal, this post is the 'prima inter pares', so to speak.  imagine him face to face with all those career ambassadors who were trained to the max in diplomacy.

sure, it is admirable that he holds a postgraduate diploma in foreign affairs (according to an earlier post in this thread).  but tough exams and years of exposure to world diplomacy is what it takes.

someone who holds an economics masteral degree is not necessarily an economist nor a journalism graduate a journalist.  it's what they have done and have proven in jobs related to their fields that make them so.  well, boy abunda is in showbiz...
