5 Aspiring Bohol Governors in 2010 Elections

Boholano movie actor-director Cesar Montano seems to be testing the grounds for a possible gubernatorial bid in the 2010 elections.

This surfaced as series of meetings were conducted last week among his probable leaders down in the district and municipal levels. He hosted lunch at his Baclayon residence last Wednesday where some political figures were seen including Prov'l Board Member Yul Lopez whose name surfaced as a probable bet for congressman in the 1st district.

Meanwhile, five names remain to be in the "gubernatorial" list for the 2010 presidential and local polls after three-termer Gov. Erico Aumentado will end his nine-year "high performing" term as chief executive of the province. Perceived to run for governor are Vice Gov. Julius Herrera, Rep. Edgar Chatto, Rep. Roberto Cajes and former Gov. Rene Relampagos.

Montano was earlier reported on his home TV station ABS-CBN to have interest to run for governor of the province. He has been noted to be heavily plugging Bohol's campaign for votes in the global search for "7 new wonders of nature" on his weekly top-rated TV show "Singing Bee."         

As reports on Montano's possible gubernatorial bid surfaced, a random telephone/text survey was conducted yesterday by dyRD's top rated weekly program "Radyo Merkado" asking radio listeners if they are favorable for showbiz personalities to run for local positions in the province, mentioning in particular, Montano as a probable gubernatorial bet.

Of the 63 respondents, 81% are agreeable, mostly saying, "there is nothing wrong to try the services of a non-traditional politician." Some even ventured to say that Montano is qualified "sensing his heart to serve the Boholanos after seeing him assist the victims of the mass food poisoning in Mabini town."

Of the 19% who disapproved showbiz personalities joining local politics, 68% said "experience as a public servant is necessary for one to run for governor being the chief executive of the province." - source: The Bohol Chronicle

calle: i didn't know that boholanos hold a dislike for politicians who does not -- or no longer belongs to a nuclear family. but if that is true, siguro it is applicable only to bohol. in other places like davao city, everyone knows that rudy duterte is separated from his wife and that he has fathered a child or two (who are about the same age as his grand children) from a much younger woman. and yet majority of davaoenos have always supported him. siguro sa bohol lang ni nga atitude.

other than ABC President Concepcion Lim, i don't know of any other elected public official who is either annuled/separated. boholanos are very conservative when it comes to family values.

i think the bigger factor in davao is duterte's performance. added to that perhaps is their level of tolerance in relationships. but the burlesk king issue was so big in davao that it even find a place in some national papers' pages as well as in the broadcast media, right?  these despite the perceived influence of the story's principal actors..

that's right. the issue of the burlesk king (now house speaker) made it to the national dailies. there was even a suit filed against a media person in the aftermath of the scandal. and just to give an update, the media person was acquitted recently by the court of the crime of libel... you may be right in your observation that davaoenos might be more tolerant about family values and circumstances of their leaders compared to boholanos. i guess this may explain the propensity of boholanos to elect traditional politicians to public office.

well admittedly, there is very little choice for boholanos to choose from basing on the list of people who might run for governor. i wish there was someone who was fresh, has a vision and is a champion of the ordinary boholano.

as much as i wanted to, i'm now enjoying my job in a government agency here in manila. wa pud koy winnability oi. i'm virtually unknown even in my own purok. i don't think im qualified for the job. (seriouso, murag correct)
