By Sunday Post Bohol’s three homegrown congressmen denied in strongest terms that they were among the recipients of the reported “payola†given to lawmakers after the impeachment complaint was buried with finality by the House of Representatives one early morning last week.
The requiem of the impeachment rap triggered talks that members of the justice committee including Bohol’s Cong. Edgar Chatto and Roberto Cajes were invited to the Linden Suites in Pasig after the charge against the President was dismissed for “insufficiency in substanceâ€.
Third district solon Adam Relson Jala, a deputized member of the justice committee voted to kill the impeachment when it was submitted in plenary Monday. He said they were required to submit a written statement why they voted against the impeachment. He promised to furnish the Post a copy of his statement.
Although no insinuation was leveled to congressmen who voted in the plenary, the young third district legislator still denied that money changed hands after the complaint was buried for good.
In the case of Cong. Chatto, he denied the alleged payoff.
He said he was supporting any investigation conducted on the source of the information so he or she can categorically name names.
The first district solon said any investigation will clear the name of those not involved if indeed it was proven true.
He further said his vote against the impeachment was based on careful evaluation of facts alleged in the complaint. The reasons of his vote was contained in the House journal.
As for Cajes, the same strong denial was in order.
He said that whoever made the accusation, he humbly suggested to name the congressmen/congresswomen involved, where and when, since this general accusation practically made all of them who voted for the justice committee report as suspects.
Chatto and Cajes were part of the 48 justice committee members who presided over the funeral of the complaint.
Several party-list representatives spearheaded a House investigation of the alleged payoff.
