DAGUPAN CITY-- A school teacher from San Carlos City was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Thursday for allegedly uploading child pornography materials.
Lawyer Dante Bonoan, NBI chief in Dagupan City, identified the arrested suspect as 29-year-old Wilfredo Ballesteros Jr. A search warrant was served by NBI agent at the suspect’s house on Thursday.
Seized from Ballesteros' house were laptops, cellphones, hard drive and flash drives containing alleged pornographic materials and internet memory stick.
Bonoan did not disclose where Ballesteros is working as teacher to protect the reputation of the school.
He said it was the Cybercrime Office of the Department of Justice in Manila which alerted the NBI in Dagupan about the activities of Ballesteros.
There were also complaints about the suspect distributing child pornography materials to people, including his friends.
Bonoan said it is possible that Ballesteros may have long been under surveillance for uploading pornographic materials to certain people.
He said the mere fact that Ballesteros has in his possession pornographic materials is already a crime.
"Since the suspect is a school teacher, we would like to find out if those in the pornographic materials were his female students or if he had abused any of them," he said.
The NBI is still investigating the materials seized from Ballesteros before filing a case for violation of the anti-child pornography law, in relation to the anti-crime cyber law.
Bonoan said the highest penalty for this crime is reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment. (PNA)
