Justice Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez Sr. on Wednesday received a subpoena to appear in the Senate investigation of the so-called “euro generals†on Thursday (Oct. 23).
Gonzalez said it was possible he would be asked about government policies regarding the travel abroad of government officials.
He said he ordered by the Senate to bring along all his issuances pertaining to travel abroad of the personnel of the department.
"Euro generals" was the tagged given to retired
Philippine National Police (PNP) comptroller Eliseo dela Paz and other officers who attended the recent International Police (Interpol) conference in St. Petersburg in Russia.
Dela Paz was detained in Moscow airport after Russian customs authorities found in his possession P6.9 million worth of euros, purportedly a contingency fund of the PNP Interpol delegates.
According to Gonzalez, it was his first time to hear about contingency fund in a foreign travel.
He added that “cash advances†are allowed to authorized government officials who are on official trip abroad to defray their travel expenses, e.g. hotel accommodations.
However, Gonzalez pointed out that cash advances are limited to certain amount, depending on the policy of the agency. - PNA
