The military on Wednesday dismissed as mere publicity gimmick by renegade Moro Islamic Liberation Front commander Abdulrahman Macapaar, alias Commander Bravo, for granting a television interview where he taunted the government and the military.
In the interview, Bravo blamed the Arroyo government for the continuing violence in Mindanao and that his unit, the MILF's 102nd Base Command, will fight the government forces - deployed for an offensive - up to the last man.
"One of the Philippines’ most wanted men more popularly known as Commander Bravo of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front group has recently appeared on national television in full battle gear attire, flocked by his troops,
declaring full ownership of Mindanao and its independence," said Army spokesman Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr.
"This brings forth to a conclusion that he is up for yet another profile-raising or publicity to promote his cause, but this time failed to hide his true character and self-vested interests on the ongoing war," said Brawner.
Brawner said Bravo mentioned in the interview that he is no longer interested in the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain which the government had refused to sign "but the
Independence for Mindanao is just another tactic to gain sympathy to his cause but with total disregard of the laws of this land."
"Bravo said that he will continue fighting, which only reveals how truly a bandit and common criminal he is. This could be the only truth that Bravo could say out of his arrogant declarations," said Brawner.
"But what actually drives him is not the “cause†of the Bangsamoro people but his egotistical motive of seizing the MILF leadership and gaining grounds for his own interest. War is the only language Bravo understands and does not really care about the safety of even his fellow Muslims for as long as he achieves what he wants," said Brawner. - PNA
