Cops nab high-value 'drug dealer' in Cagayan de Oro

,CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, March 9 (PNA) –- A day after the Philippine National Police (PNP) revived its anti-drug campaign here, a high-value suspect was arrested with more than a kilo of alleged "shabu" (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth Php2.3 million, a police report said Thursday.

Inspector Jessie Palencia, deputy station commander of the city’s Divisoria police station, said that the suspect, Sobair Mimbalawag, was caught red-handed with the illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation in his house in Barangay Balulang late Wednesday afternoon.

The police here announced Tuesday the revival of Operation Tokhang (Reloaded), an anti-illegal drugs drive, which was suspended earlier this year after the involvement of police officials in the killing of a Korean national allegedly engaged in drug trafficking.

Taken from Mimbalawag’s possession were 10 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 512.3 grams with a street value of about PHP 2.3 million at PHP 5,000 to PHP 7,000 per gram.

The suspect is considered a high-value target," said Senior Inspector Maricris Mulat, Divisoria police station chief.

“His [Mimbalawag] arrest is a product of weeks of observing him and gathering more information,” Mulat said in a telephone interview Thursday.

She said they received tips from concerned citizens that the suspect may have been involved in selling drugs as it was observed that vehicles would drop by Mimbalawag’s residence at night.

Mulat said there is a high possibility that the suspect is working for a drug syndicate, judging from the volume of shabu that he was dealing.

“This is no small-time pusher. He may be involved in a huge organization, the extent of which we still have to find out,” she added.

Aside from the suspected shabu, Mulat said they also confiscated bank deposit slips, some amounting to PHP300,000.

Mimbalawag, however, denied that he was in the illegal drug trade. He admitted that he was a user, but said stopped using drugs six years ago. (PNA)

"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
